I travelled the coast after the bloodbath, they probably suspect me of all the death but I don't care. I shouldn't care any more but as I look out the window of the dingy coach I'm currently on I feel hope. Hope to be normal again, hope to have a chance in this world. I ride the buses unsure of what I'm looking for, it's been months since I left Roswell. I miss my friends... but at least they're safe. They don't know the truth, I could never risk their lives, I am too much of a danger to them. Like I was to my parents and to Max. Oh, we've arrived! I'm in Los Angeles, City of the Angel. Maybe I can find a little peace here after all?
Grabbing my bag I get off and stand around for a bit, it's so simple now. I just choose which way to go and let my feet carry me. I should probably find a place to stay.
Two hours later and my feet are sore, why can't I just find a park bench and crash for the night? Oh yeah you tried that already and the cops moved you on. Damb pigs. Sleepily climbing the steps of the last run down hotel in the city I make my way in and find it cosy. Two blondes are at the desk, one looks a little deformed but... Oh. Oh My God. No! It can't be! She looked up at me and all time slowed, then a evil grin spread across her face
"Hello, welcome to the Alifiga Hotel. My name's Isabel how can I help you" said the other blonde. I reached into my bag and pulled a stake out, she steps back in shock
"Murderous bitch!" I shout then jump at Tess over the counter
"Hey!" someone shouts as they drag me off Tess. I backhanded her rescue and again I'm shocked to see another familiar face staring back at me.
"Oh My God" I gasped breathlessly as I look into his amber eyes. Then I look down and see a young baby in his arms. He's a vampire! She's a vamp! I'm surrounded by them and they're going to hurt that poor baby! I stood up slowly, Max can't have been a vamp for that long. Tess had been one for a few years, I'm not sure about the blonde sitting down. Crouching down slowly I pick up my bag and put it on my shoulder, I still have the stake in my hand. There's no way that they're taking that young life as well, poor baby didn't even have a chance! I threw the stake at Tess's head and snatched the baby out of his arms. I found strength from somewhere because I take off like a shot before they even realise what's happened.
I run like the wind and reach the park. Safe. I'm safe now, the baby is safe. I glance back quickly then continue on my way. I'll find the baby's home and take him back to his parents. I will not let vampires take lives so easily like they did Max and my parents. And they did with me...

It's been three months since I saw Max in Los Angeles. I'm in Santa Fe, so close to home. I'm travelling with another victim of vampires, he trained me up to a standard. He was a watcher, lost his slayer a few months back. She was killed by a nest of them, they had been together for five years and he missed her so much.
"Sean?" I whisper, getting his attention "It's late and we have to stop for the night. We should set up in Santa Fe and check the missing children reports"
"Okay. Hows Zack? Is he still sleeping?" he asked nodding to the five month old baby
"Out like a light" I reply staring down into his little face, we haven't found his parents and we've been all over the west coast. I met Sean in Oregon, he had lost his beloved Cameron and he was about to put an end to his life when I got cornered by vamps. He rushed in saving me and Zack. If we don't find Zack's parents... if we don't find them. Then I'll take him in, better to be raised by someone who loves him then left vamps get him.
"I was thinkin" I begin and Sean just nods
"I'm not a father figure. There's only one person I'd trust enough to bear my children and she's dead"
"I wasn't going to ask for you to be the father figure. I was just going to say if we don't find his parents then... I'll keep him" I say boldly
"Liz... God Damnit! You can barely look after yourself let alone a kid, are you sure you're making the right choose? If this is about your parents and Max..."
"It has nothing to do with them" I said coldly, how dare he question my devotion to protect Zack!
"It has everything to do with them. Having Zack isn't having your parents back. Their life is gone..."
"But Zack's isn't. As long as my son needs me I'll be there for him" I say clearly stating that I'm done talking. I'm all that Zack has and he's all I've got. I don't trust Sean anymore...

I woke up early that morning while Sean was still asleep. I had trusted him so easily when I first met him but he taught me not to trust and that's why I'm sneaking out now. I quickly gather my things up and shove them into the backpack I've lived out of for so long now. I look around the room one last time then I spot Zack lying awake; awake but not crying. He was wiggling his legs and staring at me like he knew I was running again. I'm edgy though, being this close to Roswell and where it happened, it has me all anxious and tense. I walk over quickly and put him up from the bed then move to the door. Sean was still asleep.
It's easy to steal the truck, his truck, it's easy to drive away and leave him and it's easy to not pay for the room. Why is it always so easy? I glance to the baby car seat next to me all strapped in safe and secure and flash Zack a quick smile and he laughs and tries to suck on his shoe.
Then suddenly it gets so very hard; I spotted the sign for Roswell and my heart froze, I had to thump my chest to make sure it was still beating Zack fell quiet and looked at me, he was very perceptive for a little baby. He reached out his hand and waved it at me making baby noises, I took his hand smiling but then flashes took over my vision.

Max running for his life, begging and screaming and crawling on the floor to get away. Then horrible yellow eyes, vampire eyes, staring into him. He screamed and it was the last thing he ever did alive.

Tess carrying a half dead Max out into the desert. She was filled up with his blood after drinking her fill. She was half alive and he was half dead, he was too weak to fight her as she forced herself on him.

Tess smirking as Max turned into a vampire then telling him that she was pregnant. Vampires couldn't get pregnant, something about him had changed that little fact. He couldn't leave even if he wanted to, he would never leave his son in the hands of Tess.

I'm back in the busted up truck staring at Zack. He's Max and Tess's son! But looking at the little baby boy I just can't see it, this baby is the sweetest kindest cutest little thing to grace this planet. How can he be the product of two evil beings? Max stuck around to protect him but Tess wanted to use him.
"Okay Max, you wanted to protect your son from her then I'll do it for you. Better me than to have your son with you and close to her" I whispered
"Mama!" suddenly burst through my thoughts and I turn to look at Zack "Momma mmmomama" he gurgled and I smiled
"Yeah I'm your mama. It's time we went home" I told him as I pulled the truck off the side of the road and head towards Roswell.

No one would recognise me now. I've worked so hard to be another face in the crowd through cheap bottles of hair dye and some glamour spells. But when I walked into the CrashDown, the only person who should have never recognised me did. Maria put the coffee pot down, apparently after my parents died she and her mom bought the CrashDown and continued to run it. There was a large plaque on the wall above the back door, I knew it had something to do with Jeff and Nancy maybe even me?
"Oh My God Liz!" she gasped rushing over and pulling me into a hug. Her hair was longer now and easy for Zack to get a hold of "Ow! Liz! Oh My God! He looks so much like you! Look at that hair and... those ears? Oh he is so cute! Where have you been for the past year?"
"I've been travelling Maria. I had to take off after... I... I know Valenti thinks I was the cause of all that since I was the only survivor..."
"No. No that's not true! You were... you could have helped him find out who did it"
"I don't want to go back to that day Maria. I don't want to face it... there was... so dark and so much blood" I whispered as memories sprung up inside my head. Hiding in the closet covered in blood and hearing people screaming outside. I shivered and let my eyes drift shut as I tried to block it out.
"So you got pregnant? Whose the father?"
"Sean... Sean Camden" I supply quickly, a little too quickly and she narrows her eyes at me
"You never used to lie"
"Back then I never had a reason to" I reply just as easily. She shakes her head then sighs deeply "I'm back to stay. Is my... is my stuff still up in my room?"
"Yeah, we cleaned out your parents stuff. Put it all in boxes and put it in the attic but we didn't touch any of your stuff because you could have come back and they..."
"I know. Thanks Maria" I tell her and she just nods then saunters off to serve more steaming coffee.

I've seen things, things that no normal person should see. I've done things, things that no normal person should do and it's broken me apart. Standing here in my room looking at all my things, I wonder how I was so dumb. I was wrapped in an innocent little world and standing here I wonder how on Earth I missed all the evil that was here in Roswell.
"Hey? You ok?" asked Maria, she was standing in the doorway looking extremely worried.
"Ask me" I say not even bothering to look at her. I know what's in her head, I know because it's in everyone's head. They want to know if I did it.
"No" she replied
"No?" I ask slowly turning around. She and Michael had been together the day it had happened, he had convinced her to skip school and go to Carlsbad with him. He had saved her life.
"No" she repeats "Even though the question has been running through my head since you disappeared. People saw you, walking away covered in blood screaming. Despite all that, despite that Alex and Max and your parents and half the school are dead and you were the only survivor I'll never ask you"
"I was a coward. I hid in a cupboard till they all went away, after that I just wandered. Then it wove through me, everyone I cared about was gone. I was so angry Maria, so angry at what they did. I went after them, and one by one I made them suffer" I told her. Then dizziness hits me as I have a quick memory of kneeling next to Alex's lifeless body, kneeling in his cooling blood and screaming "Oh God" I sit down on the bed and she rushes over
"What?"
"I can't forget it Maria. I can't forget what it was like, I was with Alex as he died. They had just, they didn't do to him what they did to the rest of them. They said he was different so they cut his throat and wrists, I tried to stop the bleeding but there was so much blood on the floor. Then they came back. They're coming back!" I jumped up shouting
"Liz! Liz! It's over! You're safe!"
"No Maria! I'll never be safe! They know who I am, there were other survivors and one of them was one of the killers"
"Liz? You have to go to Valenti. You have to go to the Sheriff and tell him, what if that killer comes back?"
"Maria. She's the one who killed Max and my parents, she's the one who killed Alex. She's going to come and get me and Zack"
"We won't let that happen! I promise!" she said pulling me close. God if only that were true.

I roll out of bed with the buzz of the alarm clock and tip toe over Maria who's snoring on the floor next to my bed. Zack is still asleep, he's curled up and all his brown thick hair is sticking up on top of his head. I open my balcony window and climb into the cold morning air. This is my morning ritual, to make me strong and to give me balance. When I was on the road with Sean I always used to sneak out and do it on top of the truck. I walk over to the small wall near the edge and push myself up into a hand stand and begin my one hundred up and down pushes. I'm up to fifty seven when I hear a loud shriek from inside the room, I land down on my feet and see Maria trying to climb out in a panic
"Liz! What the hell where you doing? You could have fallen and got killed"
"Maria I never fall, I've been doing this since I left Roswell" I explain "I always do it in the morning. Then I practice my..."
"Your what?"
"I practice my powers Maria. I've seen and learnt things on the road, things to protect myself and Zack"
"How did... how did you get powers?"
"I... the guy Sean I was travelling with. He had a book of spells that his girlfriend had before she was killed. He gave it to me, I'm just an amateur really. I've seen great witches and wiccans in action, I'm no where as strong as they are but I can hold my own" I explain and she just gives me a weird look
"Okay Liz" she says, I know she doesnt believe me
"Solarie" I whisper and hold out my hand, several green lights swirl around it and she shrieks again. That is so Maria!

I'm getting back to normal. Well as near as normal as I can get after the past year. I'm back in the CrashDown and I'm working, Zack is growing and Maria and Amy have practically adopted me into their family. People are still suspicious of me but I don't care. They can think what they like, I know what really happened in that school.
One night I was closing up, Michael was at the Grill and Maria was counting her tips when the door opened and in walked a man. The second I saw him I dropped the grey tray I was carrying. I yanked my cross from my neck and held it out
"Stay the hell away from me!" I screeched as he slowly began to move closer "Get back!"
"Where's my son" he demanded

"Look, all I want is to take him home. Tess has been trailing you, she would have ripped you to pieces for taking him. Please give me my son back"
"No" I said "I'd die before I let you anywhere near my baby"
"Fine!" he snarled and lunged forward at me. He held me close as he dug his teeth into my neck...
"No!" I protested but for all my training he had still beaten me...
"Get off her!" shouted Maria as she cracked the bat down over Max's head. I slumped to the floor falling from his arms and my whole world went black. I felt something drip over my mouth and I licked my lips, I tried to spit it out when I realised what it was I was tasting but it was too late!

I'm getting back to normal. Well as near as normal as I can get after the past year. I'm back in the CrashDown and I'm working, Zack is growing and Maria and Amy have practically adopted me into their family. People are still suspicious of me but I don't care. They can think what they like, I know what really happened in that school.
One night I was closing up, Michael was at the Grill and Maria was counting her tips when the door opened and in walked a man. The second I saw him I dropped the grey tray I was carrying. I yanked my cross from my neck and held it out
"Stay the hell away from me!" I screeched as he slowly began to move closer "Get back!"

I jerked awake when it was dark. Somehow everything seemed darker now, something wasn't right.
"Zach?" I cried looking round. Max is sitting there holding my son and nursing him
"Maria still packs one hell of a punch" he said
"What have you done to me?" I demanded "Give me my son!"
"Zan is my son, but thank you for taking him away from me" he said calmly like he meant it "It gave me time to get away from Tess. She only kept me around to use a slave, she never even bothered to care for Zan she just wanted the power he would bring. I love my son my than life or death and I'd do anything to protect him. Tess put up a good struggle, she was so close to finding you and Zan I couldn't let that happen, almost killed me but she's dead now"
"So it's over?" I ask as I stand up, I feel a little cold so I pull my arms around me
"Something... happened Liz... you" I put my hand over his mouth and shake my head
"I think I already know so don't say it. Don't tell me, I don't want to hear it" I tell him then I look down at Zach reaching for me. I take him from Max's arms and give him a little cuddle
"Mmmama" he gurgled and I smile then he looked to Max "Ddddadadda" I glance up into Max's eyes and feel the same familar feeling I used to get when we were both alive
"He's right. He's going to need a mama I mean a mom" he corrected himself with a cough "I never stopped loving you Liz. Sometimes I would think about running away from Tess and coming and turning you into a vampire so I could be with you for all eternity. It's stupid I know but it's how I feel"
"Did you do this to me on purpose?" I ask staring him down. He bows his head for a moment then looks up at me
"No. I didn't, as much as I want you I would never risk doing anything like that to you. I would never hurt you Liz"
"How come you aren't evil?" I ask and he stood up moving towards me
"I am evil Liz. It's evil to take that bastard you were riding around with a hang him up to the wall and cut him till he bled to death slowly. It's evil to kidnap every guy that looks at you and torch them. God it's evil me being here wanting you like this!" he cried before kissing me. I think he took jealous a little too far, I swore that I would stop all the vampires and that's what I'm going to do. I know that I am one now but that will just give me strength to fight. I will not stop until all the vampires on this earth are dead including me. I pull away from Max and smile up at him
"I love you Max, always know this where ever you are" I said stroking his face then it contorted in pain "Forgive me"
"Always" he managed to whisper before he turned to dust, my tears mingled with the ash of him. I have a mission to complete I grab my things then notice something shiny on the floor where Max was stood. It was his necklace that I gave to him. I pick it up and see that it has a locket with our pictures inside. I put it on and smile
"When this is all over we'll be together whether heaven or hell. I'll be there with" I promise then I gather my things up pick up Zach and leave.
