The Grieving Process ~ TEEN Completed

Post by RoswellChic4Ever »

Title: The Grieving Process
Author: RoswellChic4Ever
Rating: TEEN I guess, I dunno!
Category: Everyone but main focus on M/L
Summary: M/L M/M K/I The gang in about 20 years... let's just say some things have changed. The couples are very screwed up.. but I'll fix them I promise!
Disclaimer: It doesn't belong to me!
Author’s Notes: Yeah, I've got the gang really messed up... it's some crazy chaos and there are alot of new characters with all the kids and whatnot... I'll make a list of the names and who is related to who and whatnot. Also let’s just forget all about how the aliens can’t drink… just for this story haha.

Part 1

Haley Evans threw her book bag down in the foyer and walked, sulking, into the kitchen where her mother was starting dinner.
“Hey sweetheart, how was school?” Liz asked her daughter.
“It was ok.” She said and plopped down into a chair at the table.
“Nothing exciting happened today I take it?”
Haley sighed, “Not really, it was just a pretty boring day. The usual, go to class, go to lunch, go back to class, go to practice, come home. What’s for dinner?”
“Spaghetti. Did Hayden say if he was coming home for dinner?”
“Nope, he said he’d be home later. That was all I got from him.” She answered then started for her room.
“Oh Haley…” Liz stopped her.
“What?”
“Don’t forget to take you book bag upstairs.”
Liz smiled as her daughter went upstairs. Haley was such a smart girl. Her grades were great and she was in the top 10 of her class. Liz was sure she’d be attending a very good college next year. She took after her parents in the aspect of that she was definitely a perfectionist. She also received a few traits from her aunt Isabel. She was head cheerleader and Liz had a feeling she’d be receiving a nomination for homecoming queen within the next couple of weeks. Haley always had tons of friends around. Haley was 18 and had her whole future and Liz had a feeling Haley would be making the best of her future.
Hayden, her twin, on the other hand was the Evan’s problem. Liz had watched him the past couple of years. He was spiraling downward and Liz was very worried. She knew he spent his weekends getting drunk and partying and she had no doubt in her mind that he was into drugs. Liz just didn’t know how to handle him anymore. She could tell that Haley didn’t know what to do either. Hayden and Haley had been inserperable for most of their lives. They were as close as two siblings could be. It always made Liz happy that they were so close. They had their fights but for the most part they were good kids. But Liz could see the gap growing between the two and she was worried. Hayden used to tell Haley everything and now she was lucky if he’d tell her anything. She knew it worried Haley as well.
Liz was broken from her thoughts when she heard yelling upstairs.
“Jon- Paul that was my favorite Barbie!” She heard her 7 year old daughter scream.
Liz hurried upstairs to see Jon - Paul with Barbie’s head in one hand and her body in the other.
“It was an accident!” The 13 year old boy yelled. “Maybe you shouldn’t leave your girl toys in my room!”
“But Barbie wanted to go on an adventure last night! I forgot about her when I took my bath last night! That didn’t mean you had to break her!”
“Ok, Calm down Charisma, I can fix your Barbie. Jon - Paul, let’s um… try to be more careful with her toys next time and Charisma… don’t take your toys into Jon - Paul’s room.”
“Fine.” Both kids said and each went to their rooms.

“Please come with me Hales, please!” Katelyn Guerin begged.
“Katy, you know I can’t! My mom is never going to let me go to New York without a a parent! And I have a feeling you aren't telling your dad about this little trip.”
“Haley! Do you know what our parents did when they were our age? They went to New York by themselves, they took random road trips and lied all the time!"
“Katelyn...”
“Hales… I really have to go, I think that my mom is there.”
Haley looked at her best friend and saw how serious she was. “OK, I’ll ask, but I’m not promising anything.”
Katelyn jumped up and hugged Haley. “Thank you Haley! Thank you!”

Part 2

Max got out of his car and walked up to the door of the small ranch house. He knocked twice and waited patiently for an answer.
A young boy with spiked blonde hair opened the door and Max smiled at him.
“Hey Aaron, is your dad home?” He asked.
“Ummm… yeah he’s making dinner. You can come in.”
Max stepped into the house and shut the door behind him and watched as the boy ran down the hall to his room. Max walked into the kitchen to find Michael over the stove.
“Honey, I’m home.” Max said jokingly. “What’s for dinner.”
Michael glared at him. “Shut up, Maxwell. And we’re having macaroni and cheese tonight.”
“Yum! My favorite!” Max laughed.
“So what are you doing here anyway. Aren’t you supposed to be at work?” Michael asked turning back to his macaroni.
“Well, there weren’t very many sick kids today so I decided to leave. If they need me, they’ll page me.”
“So you’re gracing me with your presence why? Shouldn’t you be hurrying home to your perfect life?”
“Michael…”
“I’m sorry, just had a bad day… you know.” Michael apologized.
“Yeah, it’s ok. Actually I came over to see how you were and to tell you that Isabel and Kyle are coming down for a visit. They’ll get here tomorrow. Liz is having dinner at our house. Ya know, whole family kind of thing. Maybe you could be there around 6?”
“Yeah… I think me and the kids can make it.” Michael said.
There was a silence between the two best friends for awhile. Then Max broke it. “I take it you still haven’t heard from her?”
Michael took a seat next to Max at the table. “I haven’t. Katelyn got a message on her cell phone yesterday. No mention of where she is or why she just abandoned everyone. I think it just made Katy more upset than anything. I don’t know what to do. I’m not a mother. That was Maria’s job. I mean I can teach my son how to play baseball or basketball. I can teach him how to build a napkin holder. Hell, I can even talk to my son, he‘s only 12 and he still thinks I‘m the best thing in the world. But not Katelyn. She doesn’t want anything from me. She just wants her mom and I don’t know how to help her. She’s seventeen. This is her senior year of high school. She has the homecoming dance coming up. Maria was supposed to take her shopping for a dress. She’s gonna start looking into college and graduating and Maria always promised her they’d do all this stuff together.” Michael put his head on the table and started to cry. “I don’t know why she did this. We were so happy, I don’t know what happened.”
Max patted his friend on the back. “It’s ok Michael. It’s going to be ok. Liz and I will help you through this. I promise.”

Part 3!

Post by RoswellChic4Ever »

::Thanks for all the great feedback! Here's part 3, I hope you enjoy!

Part 3

Haley walked into the living room where Max and Liz were sitting. Max was paying bills and Liz was reading the newspaper. “Mom, Dad, I need to talk to you about something.”
Liz put her newspaper down and Max looked up from his bills.
“What is it honey?” Liz asked.
Haley sat down in a chair across from her parents. “I’d really like for you to let me go with Katelyn to New York next weekend.”
“New York? Why is Katelyn going to New York? Michael didn’t mention anything when I was over there today.” Max said.
“Look, Michael doesn’t know and Katy doesn’t want him too. Katy got a message from Maria and she thinks that’s where she may be. She wants to look.”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to send you and Katelyn to New York alone.” Liz said.
“Then come with us. Mom, don’t you want to find Maria? She’s your best friend.” Haley argued.
“Haley, you know that I want to know where Maria is, but I also know that she won’t be found until she wants to be. She left for a reason and none of us have a clue as to why, but I’m sure Maria has her reasons. I’m not saying she’s right in what she’s doing, but she obviously has a reason.” Liz told her daughter.
“MOM! Don’t you care that Katelyn and Aaron have no mother!?!?”
“Haley, calm down.” Max said. “You’re not going to New York with Katelyn and you better tell Katelyn she isn’t to go either. Understood.”
“No, because you did crazy shit like what Katy and I want to do all the time and now we can’t? A bit hypocritical isn’t it Dad?” With that, Haley left the room and ran upstairs, not wanting to listen to a lecture.
Max sighed and Liz went to sit next to him on the couch. He put his arms around her and kissed her forehead. “Promise me, no matter how mad you are at me, or whatever happens, promise you will never leave me. No matter what happens we can work it out.”
“Liz smiled at him. “I promise.”
“I love you.” Max told her.
“I love you too.”

* * *

Hayden stumbled into his room and threw his jacket on the floor before collapsing on his bed. He closed his eyes and was about to fall asleep when he heard a knock coming from the door to his adjoining room with Haley.
“Go away!” He said and turned to face the other way.
Haley opened the door and stood in the doorway. “You are disgusting you know?”
“I thought I locked that door.” He said, not looking at his twin.
“I think we both know that locks are useless in this house. They won’t stop any of us from getting in anything.”
“Oh yeah.” He said.
“Hmm.. You must be too drunk to remember that you aren’t exactly human. Gee… what a concept… too drunk to remember who you are. So what poor girl did you sleep with tonight?”
“Haley, was there a point to this little conversation or did you just want to be a bitch?”
“I just came in here to tell you that Aunt Isabel and Uncle Kyle are coming in town tomorrow and you have to be at home at 6 so you might want to cut back on the alcohol and weed for the next couple of days. That’s all.”
Haley went back into her room and slammed the door between her and her brother. She couldn’t believe the way he acted towards her. They used to be so close. Funny how things change, she thought to herself and then went to bed.

* * *

“Hey Haley! Wait up!” She heard and turned around and smiled.
“Hey Justin!” She said to her other best friend. Haley and Justin had been friends for a long time and Haley had always kind of been in love with him. He never returned the feelings, but he was always a good friend to her and she was very attached to him.
“Hey, how’s it going?” He asked.
She smiled at him, “It’s going good! How are you?”
“I’m good. Kelsey is coming home tonight so I’m excited.
“That’s cool.” Was all Haley could really come up with to say. It was no secret that Haley loved Justin, and it was no secret that her and Kelsey, his girlfriend didn’t really get along. They had awhile ago been very close but the Justin thing really made Haley feel resentment towards Kelsey and Kelsey had always felt threatened by Haley. Although she couldn’t figure out why.
“So you have big plans this weekend?” He asked her.
“Umm, not really. My Aunt Isabel and Uncle Kyle are coming in to visit with my cousins. I think I might have to stay home a lot and visit.”
“Awesome! I love your Uncle he’s so cool!” Justin said.
Haley laughed. “Well you should come over, I’m sure the family would love to see you! You haven’t been over in a while.”
“Yeah, I’ve been so busy with football and stuff, but I’ll call you and try to stop by!”
“Alright, see ya! Call me!”
“I will, bye Hales!”

* * *

Isabel, Kyle, Max, Liz, and Michael all sat around the table in the dining room talking. Isabel and Kyle lived in L.A. where Kyle was a very successful lawyer. Isabel was a stay at home mom. She had an 11 year old son, a 6 year old daughter and then there was the baby.
“So Kyle, how’s the firm?”
“It’s good. I have to go to court next week that’s why our trip isn’t very long.”
Isabel got up and started walking toward the patio door.
“Is, what are you doing?” Kyle asked his wife.
“Oh, I was just going to check on Skylar.” She replied.
“Isabel, sit down. I’m sure that Katelyn and Haley are more than able to take care of the baby for an hour.” Kyle told her.
“You always were the protective one, Is.”
“You’re one to talk Liz! You wouldn’t let Haley and Hayden out of you or Max’s sight for one second until they had to go to pre school!” Isabel laughed and rejoined her friends at the table.
“Ok, yeah I guess I was a little crazy! But do you remember Maria with Katelyn? She wouldn’t even let Michael watch her!” The group laughed but then remembered and got very silent.
Michael looked up at them all, “It’s ok guys. I’m ok. You can talk about her.”
“Michael, I’m sure she’ll be back. She loves you and the kids more than anything.” Liz tried to comfort him.
“Liz, I’m ok. Really. It’s been a 2 months now and I’m pretty adjusted. It’s just hard on the kids ya know.”
“Yeah…” she said.
There was a long pause and then the silence was broken by Kyle. “So you remember that time when Michael stole Maria’s car…”

Part 4... finally!

Post by RoswellChic4Ever »

Part 4

There was a knock on the door and Liz got up to answer it. To her surprise it was Justin.
“Justin.” She said and hugged him. “I haven’t seen you in awhile! What brings you over here tonight?”
“Haley said the whole family was over and I wanted to say hi and hang out with her for awhile.” He told her.
“Well come on downstairs. Everyone is in the basement.”
Justin followed her downstairs and walked into the room with a mass of people. He had forgotten how big Haley’s family was. He was an only child so it was usually just him and his mom and dad. Kelsey had a big family that he spent a lot of time with, but it was no where near the size of Haley’s.
“Justin!” Haley jumped up. “I thought you had plans with Kelsey tonight?”
“Kelsey is spending some time with her parents tonight so I thought I’d come hang out with you. Sorry I didn’t call.”
“No!” She said, “It’s fine, I’m so glad you came over!”
“Hey Justin!” Katelyn came up to the pair.
“Hey Katy, how have ya been?”
“I’ve been ok.”
“I heard about your mom, I’m sorry.”
“It’s ok really… so hey let’s see if we can go out and do something!”
“Alright!” Haley said.
The three made their way to where the adults were sitting.
“Justin, always good to see you.” Max shook the young boy’s hand. “How are your parents?”
“They’re good Mr. Evans.”
“Justin!” Kyle said. “How’s football?”
Justin beamed at the mention of his favorite sport, and took a seat next to Kyle. The two started talking about plays and moves that Kyle had taught him.
“Oh great, we’re never going to get out of here now. Once Justin and Kyle get talking about football we’re old news.” Haley told Katelyn.
“Great…”
The two girls took a seat and started talking.
“I can’t believe Justin and the family are this close. I forgot.” Katy said.
“Well he used to do everything with us remember… God, he used to spend the night back in the day. My mom couldn’t remember if he was her child or if he belonged to someone else half the time! I remember when him, Hayden, you and I spent every waking moment together.”
The girls laughed remembering their childhood days. The laughter stopped when they heard a loud crash upstairs. Max and Liz hurried upstairs followed by Haley and Katy.
They found Hayden stumbling around, and he had knocked an end-table over breaking some things.
“Son, what the hell are you doing?” Max asked.
It didn’t take long for Kyle, Isabel, Michael and Justin to get upstairs after the first four had.
“Sorry Dad, I must have uh… tripped over the rug or something.”
“Hayden, you’re drunk aren’t you? Are you high.”
Hayden laughed, “Nothing ever gets by you Mom, it’s no wonder you got accepted to Northwestern.”
“Hayden, you are walking on thin ice, I suggest you drop the attitude right now.” Max told him.
“You know what Dad? No, I don’t really want to.”
Hayden then caught site of his old best friend standing back in the shadows.
“Justin, buddy! How have ya been?” He pushed past his family and shook Justin’s hand.
“Hayden, you need to get some sleep man.”
“Psshaw! I’m fine! You want to go party with me? I heard there’s a great one at Cooper’s house!”
“I think you’ve had enough partying for tonight man. You seriously need to get some sleep, before you so something you’re gonna regret in the morning.”
“Dude, now I know why I don’t hang out with you anymore. You are no fun. Always the good boy, getting good grades and pleasing mommy and daddy. Jesus man, have some fun.”
“Hayden… Your room, NOW!” Max said pointing to the steps.
“No, Dad, I’m talking to my good friend Justin, I haven’t seen him in a long time because he’s been too busy screwing his girlfriend!”
Justin stood in shock wondering where his best friend went.
“Hayden, you’re totally drunk and you smell like pot and I think you should go to bed. We can talk tomorrow when you know what you are saying.” Justin said, trying to stay calm.
“Hayden, go to bed you are being a major jerk!” Haley broke in.
“Haley shut up won’t you, I’ve had about enough of you to last me a lifetime. You and your perfect child act. Oh I get straight A’s, oh I’m head cheerleader, oh I’m student council president, I got nominated for Homecoming Queen. Guess what, I don’t freaking care and no one else in this house does either.”
“You made Homecoming Court?” Isabel asked her?
“Isabel? Not now.” Liz said. “Hayden go to your room. Please, before you embarrass yourself in front of your family even more than you already have.”
“Mom, I’m not embarrassed. In fact I had some questions for Justin because you see from what I heard she was screwing almost the whole football team before you and I wanted to find out if she was any good.”
Justin had had enough. He punched Hayden and Hayden fell backwards. Justin grabbed his shirt and pushed him into the wall. “Listen here, I’ve had enough. You can talk to me any way you damn well please but why don’t you just leave my girlfriend and your sister alone because one more comment about either one of them and I’m sure to put you in the hospital.”
“I’d like to see you try.” Hayden threatened.
Justin let go of Hayden and turned to walk away. Michael and Max grabbed him before he hurt anyone and Haley and Katelyn followed Justin outside.
“Justin, I have never seen you get mad like that.” Katelyn said as they all three sat on the porch swing.
“I rarely get that mad but he was way out of line.”
“Thanks for standing up for me, I appreciate it.” Haley told him.
“Hey, you’re like my best friend.”
“I’m so sorry about him. He’s been uncontrollable lately and my parents are going crazy. I’ve heard my mom crying in her room after they talk and I just, I try to talk to him ya know.”
“Babe, your brother is totally whacked… he needs some major help. His drug and alcohol problem is out of control.”
“I know.

* * *

Liz sat at the kitchen table alone. Michael had taken off and Kyle and Isabel were getting the kids to bed. She was at a loss at what to do for her son. He had drifted so far away and Liz wasn’t sure that they’d be able to get him back.
“You ok?” Max asked her and sat down next to her.
“No.” She answered. ‘Where did we go wrong with him? I mean… what happened?”
“Liz, this is not our fault. We are good parents. We have 4 other great kids. Hayden just needs some help.”
“I wish his brother was here. Brighton was always good at handling Hayden.”
“Actually Liz, Brighton is coming. I called him and he’s on his way.”
Liz smiled. Brighton was their oldest son. Actually he was Tess and Max’s son. Tess had dropped him off one day on their door step and left. They hadn’t heard from her since. That was 20 years ago. He had no real memory of Tess, but Max and Liz had always been honest with him about her.
“I hope that he can get through to him, because to be honest Max, if he can’t… I don’t know who will.”

Part 5...

Post by RoswellChic4Ever »

::OK, two parts 2nite! YAY! Enjoy!

Part 5

“Alex, let’s go over to Aaron’s house and play!” Jon - Paul said excitedly to Isabel and Kyle’s oldest son. The eleven year old was named in memory of Alex who had been killed by Tess’s selfishness and evil.
“Mom! Can me and Alex go to Aaron’s? Please?” Jon- Paul asked.
“Jon - Paul Brighton is coming home today, don’t you wanna be here when he gets here?” Liz asked him.
“No, I want to go play at Aaron’s.”
Liz sighed. “How bout if Aaron comes over here? You guys can go swimming with the girls.
“I guess.”
“Well I’ll call Michael and see if it’s ok.”

* * *

The phone rang at the Guerin residence and Katelyn and Aaron jumped for it, each expecting a phone call. Aaron got to it first. He stuck his tongue out at Katelyn and then answered.
“Hello?” He said into the phone.
Michael walked in to see who it was when Aaron busted out with “MOM!”
Michael and Katelyn anxiously stared at the boy as he chatted with his mother. Both wanting their chance to talk.
“Hi Mom! Yeah I’m good. Isabel and Kyle are here with Alex and me and Jon - Paul and him are going to play today. Guess what Mom, I’m getting an A in math! I just remembered what you taught me and I did so much better on my test. Dad helped too. He wants to talk to you. So does Katy. Ok, bye Mom, love you too.”
He handed the phone to Katelyn and then looked at his father. “She said she doesn’t want to talk to you.”
“Hi Mom, where are you? Oh… Ok… Yeah, I’m doing ok. Yeah Dad’s ok too. We miss you. Oh, well it’s been chaotic around here. Yeah my grades are fine. Yes, Haley and I are going shopping for dresses today. Oh, David Sanders asked me. Yeah, I’m excited. When are you coming home? Ok, bye. Love you.”
“Give me the phone.” Michael said and took it from Katelyn.
"Maria!" Michael yelled into the phone. "Maria answer me! Damnit!"
All he got was silence... "Maria I know you are there!"
“Maria, if you are there, just listen. I don’t know what happened, but you have to come back. I miss you so much, the kids miss you. Maria… please for the kids come back. Maria, for me come back. I love you so much and I can’t do this alone. I need you. Please.”
Silence… then a click.

* * *

Maria cried and cried and cried. She was at a loss and didn’t know what to do. She wasn’t quite sure why she had left in the first place. It just seemed as though she was trapped and she couldn’t handle trapped anymore. She needed a break. So she took some money and bought a plane ticket to New York. She was staying in a little flat and knew that her money supply would run out soon. She was waiting tables at a little diner and just taking a break. But she knew how selfish it was. She knew that eventually she’d have to go back and face her friends, her children, and most of all Michael, which scared her to death.

Part 6

Part 6

Brighton Evans stared at the outside of his childhood home. He had been raised there and for 21 years, taught the values of two loving, respectable parents. When his father had called him about Hayden he was shocked. He had only been gone for a year and already things were turning to chaos.
Brighton always knew that Hayden, if any of the Evan’s children, would be the one to get into trouble. He was always rebellious and wanting to be different from everyone else. Brighton figured it had to do with him being a twin and his whole life being linked to Haley.
Brighton had spent the past year living in Boston with his girlfriend. He had been accepted to Boston University on a scholorship and was a psychology major. With his graduation just a few months away he was ready to test his skills on someone who deserperatly needed his help. His brother.
“Mom!” Brighton yelled entering the house. “Mom, are you home?”
Liz rushed to the living room. “Brighton!” She smiled and hugged him. “I’m so happy to see you! How was your flight. Sorry we couldn’t pick you up, it’s been chaos around here. Oh let me take your stuff.”
“Mom… one thing at a time.” He laughed.
“Sorry honey.” She took a deep breath and led Brighton to the couch and they sat down. “So how is school?”
“It’s good.”
“Good, I’m glad.”
“How’s Meghan? How come you didn’t bring her?”
“She’s good Mom, she had to work and do some stuff back home, but she’s good.” He answered.
“So… maybe you two will be moving back here to settle down in the spring?” Liz was hinting.
“Mom, I told you, when Meghan and I decide to get married, you’ll be the first person I tell.”
She sighed. “Fine, I suppose I can live with that.”
“So where’s Hayden?” Brighton asked.
“Oh, umm… He should be up in his room. He’s been up there since last night. Well actually, your father told him to stay up there until further notice.”
“Well, I’ll just head on up there and have a chat with him then.”
“Ok… good luck.”

* * *

Brighton opened the door to Hayden’s room without knocking and walked in.
Hayden turned and saw his older brother standing in the doorway. “What the hell are you doing here?”
“Well little bro, I’m here to talk to you.”
Hayden snickered. “Oh please do not tell me that Mom called you.”
“No actually she didn’t.”
“Then what are you here for?” He asked.
“Dad called.”
“Oh. I suppose they told you all about me. ‘I just don’t know what to do with him anymore. He’s such a problem child.’” He said in his best impersonation of his mother.
Brighton laughed, “Well basically, yeah. I heard you got your ass kicked by Justin, that‘s pretty funny.”
“Oh please, he was far from kicking my ass. I totally could have taken him.”
“Yeah in your drunken stupor I bet you could have.”
“Shut up, what do you want?”
“I want to know why you are drinking and doing drugs. What the hell is wrong with you?”
“Oh goodie… here it comes. You are gonna psycho analyze me I take it.”
Brighton rolled his eyes. “You really are as impossible as Dad said you were.”
“Good, I always wanted to live up to their expectations.”
“Start packing.”
“What? Why?”
"What do I look like? The Wizard of Oz? You need a brain? You need a heart? Go ahead, take mine. Take everything I have."

Part 6b...

Post by RoswellChic4Ever »

OK well this was originally entitled part 7 but it's way to short to be an actual part so it's 6b basically because it has to do with part 6. I'm working on a Michael/Maria part so I had to get the Hayden thing slightly resolved for awhile... The next part should be up later today or tomorrow I'm hoping... Thanks for reading! Part 6b

“No, there’s no way.”
“Mom… listen, I think that this is going to be the best thing for him.”
“Max, tell him no.”
Max sighed, “Liz, maybe he’s right. Maybe this will be good for Hayden.”
“Brighton, excuse me and your father please.” Liz said and Brighton left the kitchen and went downstairs in the basement to see his Aunt and Uncle.
“Max, we are not sending Hayden to Boston. We aren’t sending him away, I can’t lose him.”
“Liz, don’t you understand? We’ve already lost him! This may well be our only chance to get him back.”
“What is Boston going to do that we can’t? He needs parents Max.”
“No Liz, what he needs is to get away from here. He’s unhappy, it’s obvious, and there is nothing we can do for him!” He yelled. “Liz, wake up! This is it, this is our last chance.”
“Stop yelling at me!”
Max took a deep breath. “Liz, I’m sorry, I’m sorry I yelled but I think that this may be the best thing for him right now. It gives him a chance to get away and figure things out.”
Liz sat down in a chair and buried her face in her hands. Max sat next to her and put his hand on her shoulder. “Liz, if there was any other option, but there’s not. Let’s send him with Bright for a month and just see if anything gets better.”
The two sat in silence for awhile and Liz finally spoke up. “Fine, let’s send him to Boston.”

Part 7
~*Song belongs to Travis Tritt, it's entitled "Foolish Pride." I thought it kinda fit so I used it!*~

Michael was sitting in the living room watching the hockey game. Aaron was at Max and Liz’s and Katelyn had gone out with Haley. He was eating potato chips and enjoying the relaxation. It was something he hadn’t had time to do since Maria had left. He was always making dinner or doing laundry or taking Aaron somewhere, or working. He welcomed the peace and quiet for one night.
The hockey game had just ended when Michael heard the door open. He heard footsteps and assumed it was Katelyn.
“Hey Katy, you’re home early, something happen?”
There was no answer so he turned to look toward the entrance to the living room.
“… Maria…” He said quietly.
“Hey Spaceboy.”
Michael sat staring at Maria for a few moments. Neither of them knowing what to do or say. Maria finally broke the silence.
“Michael, I’m so sorry.”
“You’re sorry? That’s all you have. You left for over a month, you left your kids and your husband, your job and your friends and all you have to say for yourself is I’m sorry?”
Maria started to cry. “Michael please…”
“Don’t cry Maria. Don’t even think that will get you out of this. This is your fault you left so don’t you cry!”
Michael was angry. He didn’t even know where it came from. The whole time Maria had been gone all he could think about was getting her back and just holding her and telling her how much he loved her so she’d never leave again. But he couldn’t remember any of that. All he could remember was the pain his children had gone through and the pain he had gone through. The nights he had heard Katelyn crying in her room. The nights he had spent crying in his room. All the times Aaron would ask when his mom would come back. All he could think of was the pain she had caused.
“Michael, I had to go. I was trapped, I had to go.”
“You were trapped? What the hell does that mean Maria? You got tired of being a mom and a wife so you just thought you’d take off for a couple months? See what it was like to have no responsibility? Do you have any idea what everyone has gone through.” He yelled.
“I’m sorry what else do you want from me Michael? I made a bad decision, I know.”
“You made a bad decision? You’re damn right you did. You were selfish Maria.”
“I know Michael. I was wrong.”
“You didn’t even leave a note? Do you know what it was like for Katelyn to wake up and not know where you were? For Aaron to come home from school so excited to tell you something and you were gone. Neither of them could understand. I guess it was fine if you wanted to leave me, but for you to do that to my kids…”
“Your kids? I believe they’re ours.”
“No, for the past 6 weeks, they’ve been mine. You haven’t been here. You abandoned them.”
“Michael that’s not fair!”
“Either is the fact that you took a vacation for 6 weeks and now you want to be the perfect mother again!”
“Michael, I’m sorry!”
“No, Maria, you aren’t. You know what you are. You are a selfish little brat who does whatever she wants and never thinks about the consequences. How the hell I fell in love with you I will never know.”
Maria started sobbing. “I love you Michael.”
“No, you don’t. You love yourself.”
Maria continued crying. “Michael, you don’t mean that.”
“Actually Maria, I do. Get out.”
“What?” She asked through her tears.
“GET OUT!” He yelled. “Go run away, it’s what you’re good at. Just get away from me, because I can‘t look at you any longer.”
With that Michael went up to his bedroom and slammed the door. Maria stood for a minute and then left the house.

* * *

Max, Liz, Kyle, and Isabel were downstairs talking. They all heard the doorbell ring and Liz checked her watch. “It’s midnight. Who could that possibly be?”
Liz got up to go get the door and Max followed. She looked out the window and was surprised at the sight.
Liz opened the door and there on her doorstep stood Maria, her face tear stained and holding a suitcase in her hand.
“Maria!” Liz exclaimed and hugged her best friend who had been missing for so long.
“Liz, I’m so sorry I just… I don’t know and Michael and… Katy and I feel so bad and Aaron and I’m such a bad mother and Michael hates me and…
“Whoa… Maria, calm down.” Max told her. “Deep breathes.”
Liz led Maria downstairs in the basement to not wake up the kids. The last thing she wanted was for Aaron to see his mother like this.
“Maria?” Isabel said when she saw her. “Oh my God, where have you been?”
Maria started crying again and Liz shook her head at Isabel. “Not now Is.”
Liz sat Maria down on the couch and sat next to her. “Maria, what happened with Michael?”
She stopped sobbing and calmed herself before beginning. She told them what had happened as best as she could.
“Maria, it’s gonna be ok. Look you can stay here tonight, you just need to get some sleep. Michael is going to need some time to think. I’m sure everything will be fine once everyone calms down a little bit.”
“Ok.” Maria said.
“Come on.” Liz took Maria’s hand and the two went upstairs to the second floor. Liz was careful to be very quiet so not to wake anyone up. She knew Haley would be coming home anytime and she wasn’t sure whether Katelyn would be with her or not.
She took Maria into a guestroom and told her to get some sleep. Maria sat down on the bed.
“Thanks Liz.” She said.
“No problem.”
“I promise I’ll tell you everything later.”
“Just get some sleep Maria.” Liz shut the door and left Maria to herself.

She stayed up all night and cried into her pillow
And fought off the urge to just break down and call
Last night to find the fault seemed so darn easy
But now who’s to blame, don’t’ matter much at all
She’s thinks if she calls him, it’s just shows weakness
So the hurt goes on with every tear she’s cried
And its sad to see a good love fall to pieces
Chalk another heart break up to foolish pride

Maria wanted to call him. She wanted to just tell him that she loved him, but he would just hang up on her. She knew he was going to be mad, she just didn’t know he was going to be that mad. She knew she just had to deal with it. When he wanted her back, he’d come get her. That’s how Michael was.

Turn out the lights the competitions over
The stubborn souls are the losers here tonite
And while the bridge is burned
Another hard, hard lessons learned
As in the ashes passion slowly dies
And this romance goes down to foolish pride

Michael wandered around the house. He looked at all the photographs. Maria had filled the fireplace mantel with tons throughout the years. There was of course a family picture of the two of them and the kids, and some of just the kids alone. There was their wedding picture and then a picture of the two of them in high school. He was never quite sure why she kept that one up there, but he liked it. Michael picked up the picture and looked at how happy they had been. Back when life was exciting and they could get by on love alone. He looked at the picture and tears started pouring down his face. He tried to hold them back. He went to put the picture back but looked at it one more time and then threw it across the room. It shattered as it hit the wall.

He re - lives every word they spoke in anger
He walks the floor and punches out the wall
To apologize to her would be so simple
But instead he cries, I’ll be damned if I crawl
If he loses her he’s lost his best friend
And more than just a lover can provide
So he wrestles with emotions that defeat him
Chalk another love lost up to foolish pride

Michael knew that he had been out of line with Maria. But she had hurt him so bad. When he woke up to find her gone that morning, it was like someone stuck a knife in his stomach. The pain was overwhelming. And living without her, was like, the knife was always there, he just got used to it. And he knew that was what he was going to have to do. Get used to life without Maria, because she screwed up and Michael just wasn’t sure he could live a life with her, knowing that at one time, he had made her so miserable, she had to leave.

Part 8

“Dad?” Katelyn yelled into the house. She walked in to find shattered glass all over and a hole in the wall. She was worried. “DAD?!?!” She yelled louder.
Michael was no where to be found. She looked in the garage and his car was still there. She went over to where the glass was, when she saw what it was from. A picture of her parents from high school. Katelyn picked up the picture and set it on the end table and went to pick up the glass. She hadn’t even started when the phone rang. She hurried to the kitchen and answered.
“Dad?” She said into the phone.
“Kate?”
“Hey Hales, is my dad there?” She asked.
“Umm… no, but…”
“But what?”
“You’re mom is.”
“I’ll be right there.”

* * *

Katelyn swung the door open at the Evan’s and rushed into the living room. Maria was sitting there with Aaron playing checkers.
“Mom? What are you doing? What’s going on? Where have you been? Where’s Dad?”
“Come here Katelyn, sit down.”
“No, I’m fine standing. What the hell is going on?”
Maria stood up and walked towards her daughter, “Katy, I’m sorry. I really am, and I don’t know what else to tell you. What I did was wrong and selfish and I can understand if you are mad at me. I am such a bad mother.”
Katelyn didn’t say anything at first but then just hugged her mother. “I love you mom. I’m glad you are back.”
Aaron stood up and joined the hug as well, “I love you too mom.”

* * *

Haley peaked in the room and saw Maria, Katelyn, and Aaron hugging. She didn’t want to disturb them because she figured they had a lot of catching up to do. She was on her way upstairs when the door bell rang.
“Hey Justin!” She said when she answered the door. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, I was going to see if you wanted to go get lunch.”
“Umm… yeah! That sounds fun!”
They walked to his car and she got in. “So where is Kelsey today?”
“Oh, she had to head back to school early this morning.”
“That sucks.” She said.
“Yeah. So where do you wanna go?”
“Well we could go to the CrashDown.” She said smiling. “It would be free since my grandparents own it.”
“That sounds good, I haven’t been there in awhile.”

* * *

Haley and Justin walked into the CrashDown and had a seat.
“Haley! Justin!” Nancy said coming from the back. “How are you guys.”
“Hi Grandma. We’re good. How are you?”
“I’m good. What do you two want today, it’s on the house!”
“I just want a cherry coke.” Haley said.
“I want a Will Smith Burger and a Blood of Alien Smoothie.”
“Coming right up! I’ll send your grandfather out here to say hi.”
“Ok, thanks Grandma.”
Nancy left and Haley smiled at Justin. “See, I told you it would be free.”
“Can I ask you something.” He said.
She shrugged her shoulders. “Yeah, sure.”
“Well, Roswell is a really small town, and your grandparents own the most successful diner in Roswell. Most people eat here like at least once a week. But you and your family never come here. In fact, your parents don’t seem to talk to your grandparents at all. Why is that?”
“Because my Dad, got this other girl pregnant, her name was Tess, at the end of his junior year. Then she left for like a year and my Dad couldn’t find them. Anyway she ended up coming back at the end of their senior year and she left the baby, Brighton, with him. Mom then moved in with Dad to take care of Brighton and they got married and then they had me and Hayden. I think they kind of blame my Dad because he’s such a successful doctor and my Mom could have been too, but she chose to stay home and take care of a family. She went to college for awhile when were really little. But yeah they think he took her life and they tried to keep her home and they got into a huge fight. My parents never talk to them. The only reason we know them at all is because Maria thought it was important so she’d bring us here all the time.”
“Interesting. So where’s Brighton’s Mom?”
“Oh, she killed herself the next night after coming back.”
Justin was taken aback at the way Haley had said that. It was like she had no compassion. “That’s awful. Poor girl.”
Haley snickered. “Justin, Tess was a manipulative bitch. No one in my family gave a damn what happened to her. Half of them wanted her dead.”
“Haley!”
“It’s true! Listen… she killed my mom and Maria’s best friend. It was Aunt Isabel’s boyfriend and she killed him. It wasn’t like she was a good person with no alternatives or something. She was a bad person and deserved to die.”
“How did she kill him.”
“She just did ok. Can we not talk about this anymore.” She snapped.
“Yeah, sorry.” He said and they finished their lunch in silence.

Part 9a

::Ok this part is really really short! Sorry, but I wanted to get another part up! Enjoy!::

Part 9a

Katelyn had been at the Evans’ all day spending time with her mother. She had almost forgotten her father who had been missing in action this morning. She saw that the house was lit up, so she assumed he was home. She hurried upstairs to his room and saw him packing.
“Dad! What are you doing? What’s going on?”
“I’m moving out.”
“What?!?!” Katelyn cried. “Why, why are you leaving us?”
“Katelyn, I’m not leaving you. I’m just going to let your mother live in the house and I’m going to stay at Max and Liz’s until I find a place of my own.”
“But why? Why can’t you live here? Why can’t we all live here?” Katelyn was confused. She thought her mother coming home would make things better, but this was worse. She already lost her mother and now her father was leaving her as well. She sat down on her parent’s bed and started to cry. “I can’t understand why no one wants us.”
“What are you talking about?” Michael asked. Sitting down next to her.
“Well Mom left us, and now you are. I thought Aaron and I were good kids. Why doesn’t anyone want to be our parent.” She started to cry harder.
Michael was at a loss. He wasn’t quite sure how to deal with this. He was the fun one. The one who spent too much money when they went shopping. The one who took the kids to get ice cream and play video games. He wasn’t the one who explained life. That was Maria. “Listen Katy…” He started. “This has nothing to do with you and Aaron. Your mother and I are just growing apart. We need some time.”
“But you had almost two months. Wasn’t that enough time?”
“I think your mom and I just need to sit down and talk about stuff. But it’s been an emotional day and I don’t think either one of us is ready for that. So I’m going to stay at Max and Liz’s and take some time to figure stuff out. I’ll only be five minutes away.”
Katelyn turned and hugged Michael. He was surprised because she hadn’t hugged him in years. She was always too old or too cool. He hesitated a little and then hugged her back.
“I love you Daddy.” Katelyn said.
“I love you too Kate. I love you too.”
