Sorry it's been so long since I updated. Home computer is so slow it's frustrating to be on it. But I've figured out a way to for us to get DSL so pretty soon that will be a thing of the past. Of course by that time I'll probably have the story posted.

BTW, to Chicago fans. GO CUBS!!!!!!!!!!

PART 21

The next few months were blissfully unexciting. Liz couldn’t remember a time when their lives had been more normal since Kyle had come to town. They went to school and studied hard, those who worked continued to do so while the others hung out at the Crashdown. The Sheriff made it his job to look after Kyle since he was now without a legal guardian.

Thanks to a little bit of alien magic, correct papers came into existence that showed Kyle’s ‘father’ had been taken out of town on business and left in the custody of Sheriff Valenti. The house that Nasedo and Kyle lived in was pretty much paid in full so they didn’t have to worry about that and there was enough money left so that what wasn’t paid for was taken care of as well.

Kyle’s house was only a block away from the Valentis’ so Kyle was able to stay in his house and the Sheriff kept an eye on him. Liz had a feeling that it was partly due to the relationship he as well as everybody else saw developing between Tess and Kyle but kept that little theory to herself.

Things amongst the couples were better than ever. Isabel and Alex were as close as ever, Maria and Michael still bickered but it was more like foreplay than anything else, Kyle and Tess were friends while Liz and Max were just like they had been before Kyle and destiny had stepped into their lives. No one said anything about how close they had gotten but all had ideas how they had finished working through their problems. Other non romantic relationships improved as well. Kyle and Max continued to put up with each other while Tess and Liz buried their animosity.

The Evans had returned on afternoon after the battle, thrilled to see their children safe and sound and to know that the threat that had been looming over their heads had been destroyed. They didn’t ask for the details though, they understood that it was something best left unspoken. The other parents of course, the Parkers, Ms. Deluca, and the Whitmans, were all oblivious to what their children had taken part in.

As far as they knew, their kids had gone camping after the Crash festival. But the Parkers did notice that Liz and Max were a lot closer after the camping trip and wondered what had happened. However, Max would only say that he and Liz had finished working things out and were back together.

A lot of the teens in Roswell hated the small town because they thought it was too quiet and boring but to Liz it was paradise. Peace and quiet meant that they could try to get on with their lives, and do normal things like study and go to school or just hang out at the Crashdown, like Liz was doing that evening.

Max watched from the counter as his girlfriend leisurely flipped through a large book. He could tell she was completely focused on it and it made him smile. It was strange, when she was studying; Liz looked more relaxed then ever. Maybe it was because she enjoyed it so much.

Max looked around the café, they only had fifteen minutes until closing time and aside from Liz, there was only one other table taken. Since Maria was their waitress, Max knew that they were taken care of so he headed over to flirt with Liz. He slid into the booth across from her and asked. “Do you ever put the books away? It is Friday night you know, you don’t have to get all your homework done tonight.”

Liz smiled as she took her eyes from her book and looked up. “I finished studying an hour ago, I’m reading this one just for the fun of it.”

“What are you reading?”

“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Alzaban.” Liz answered. When she saw Max’s smile broaden and him chuckle, she couldn’t help but ask, “What’s so funny?”

“Oh, nothing.” Max said looking innocent. He glanced back at the lingering customers before lowering his voice. “Just kind of ironic for an alien to be reading a book about witches and wizards.”

“I guess it is ironic.” Liz smiled at his joke. “But they are really good and as I read these books, I can’t help but feel a kinship with Harry.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I mean here’s a young man who grew up never knowing anything about his real parents or where he came from. Granted he didn’t know he was a wizard until he was eleven but when he did he found out that he was different from everyone he’d met and could do extraordinary things.”

“He’s close with Hermoine and Ron like you were only close to Isabel and Michael.” Max pointed out. “And as time went on his group of friends got bigger.”

“He lives and tries to make sense of everything going on in his everyday life.” Liz stated.

“Trying to find his place in life while also discovering as much as he can about himself.” Max stated.

“He goes through all of these…adventures that the larger world know nothing about. It’s like what we did with the skins or when we were going against the FBI.” Liz stated. “Not to mention if the larger world knew what was going on, Harry and everyone like him would be feared and probably hated for being different.”

“But have no reason to be feared.” Max interrupted. “You should write a book yourself. No one would believe it if they read it and would assume its fiction.”

Liz laughed. “You think?”

“Yeah, you could make all kind of money and we would all be living in the lap of luxury.” Max continued.

“I think Michael might have a problem with it.”

“I doubt he’d hate having money, he’d be able to buy that big TV he’s been eyeing.” Max explained.

“I don’t mean he’d have problem with the money, just the spilling of our secrets. You know it would kind of hurt the whole hiding in plain sight thing.” Liz said.

“Yeah, probably.” Max said.

Just then Maria walked up and interrupted their conversation. “I’m all done with those last customers, if you want to lock up the front door Max.”

Max looked over and saw that he had been so wrapped up with Liz that he hadn’t noticed that it was time to close. He heard the other cook, Jose cleaning up in the kitchen and knew he better get a move on if they were going to get things closed up and the café cleaned. “Oh, right.”

“It’s okay, I could see you were otherwise occupied.” Maria teased as she winked at Liz.

Liz grabbed up her books and scouted out of the booth. “I should be going too.”

“But I thought you might hang out here for a little longer with me?” Max pouted.

“I can’t, I promised my parents I’d get in at a half way decent time tonight.” Liz said. She gave him an apologetic kiss before hurrying out the front door. Most of the other businesses on Main Street were already closed and the street was dark. Liz couldn’t help the creeping feeling that she wasn’t alone. A feeling that proved to be true.

“Liz Evans?” A voice called out from the dark.

Liz’s whole body tensed as she turned to face the person addressing her. The woman was older looking with shoulder length blonde hair. Her face showed signs of a hard life despite the regal air surrounding her. As Liz looked at her, she was struck with the sense of déjà vu, as if she had met her before but Liz could not place where she had seen her. It was right there but she couldn’t pull it up in her memory.

“My name is Thera; I’m your mother.”

I'm glad you all liked the last part. I love it when I get to completely shock my audience.

PART 22

“My name is Thera; I’m your mother.”

After Thera’s proclamation, Liz could only stare at her. She had no doubt that what Thera had said was true. When she had made her announcement that feeling of déjà vu had became so clear. She had seen her before, in the message from the orbs. The message that had screwed up her life so much for a time. But she wasn’t an image in a message anymore; she was a living, breathing person standing in front of her.

Liz was so shocked that she blurted out the first thing that came to mind. “What are you doing here?”

Thera appeared taken aback, but answered. “We came to find you as well as the other three.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound rude. But you just appearing on the streets of Roswell is just the last thing I was expecting.” Liz apologized.

“It is okay.” Thera said assuringly giving her a warm smile. “I’m sure my arrival and our reunion is not transpiring the way you envisioned it.”

“To tell you the truth, I wasn’t sure I’d ever get to meet you. Least of all in the middle of Roswell on a dark street. I should tell you that none of us have our memories of before.” Liz stated honestly. What was happening was finally starting to sink in for her.

Liz was standing across from her the woman who had given birth to her. A woman who had loved her, Michael, and Isabel enough to have them recreated and send them off to a safe planet. While Liz did harbor some affection for Thera because of who she was Diane Evans was the only mother she remembered and the one she had ever really thought of in a maternal sense.

“There were a few times since we sent you to Earth, and throughout the war when I too did not think I would see any of you again.” Thera said.

Liz felt a sudden tightening in her chest at what Thera had said. It reminded her that the four of them had been sent to Earth for a purpose. To be safe until it was time to go back, a moment in time that had possibly arrived. “Why you are here? Are you taking us back?”

Sadness appeared in Thera’s eyes and her shoulders seemed to sag a little before she spoke, “As you pointed out, these surroundings are not ideal for a meeting of this magnitude.”

“You’re right. Michael and Isabel would kill me if I did this without them. They’ll already be disappointed that they weren’t here for this.” Liz agreed. “As much as I hate to put this whole meeting off, it is too late for something like that to happen tonight. You’re not in a rush are you?”

“Tomorrow will be soon enough to meet with the four of you, we do not have any time limit.” Thera stated.

“Um, there’s more than the four of us.”

Thera’s eyes went wide. “The second set is here as well?”

“Uh, no. Though they were here a few months ago. What I meant was that when something big like this happens, not only the four of us deal with it.” Liz tried to explain.

“Oh, yes. Your human friends and family.” Thera said.

“How do you know about them?” Liz asked instantly going on the defensive. She couldn’t help but think about Nasedo’s opinion on humans and was unsure of how the other aliens would feel.

“We’ve been watching you since we arrived in Roswell yesterday.” Thera clarified.

“But how did you know where to look for us in the first place? How did you know where we crashed?” Liz asked. Why was people were always watching them before they even knew it?

Thera halted any more of her questions by holding up her hand. “I promise, we will answer all questions you have when we all meet tomorrow.”

“We? How many of you are there?” Liz asked.

“Quite a few. We will need a large area for the meeting place.”

“I think I know where.”

(*(*(*(*(*(*(*(**)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)

The next morning, Liz watched from her place at the kitchen table as the rest of her family ate breakfast. Michael was even there, despite the fact that it was before noon on a Saturday morning. He had mumbled something about Maria dragging him out to the mall so he figured he’d accept the standing invitation for breakfast. And he was now fighting with Isabel over the last bottle of Tabasco sauce.

Liz couldn’t help but wonder if they were going to be mad at her for not telling them right away about her encounter with Thera. She had planned on telling them as soon as she got home the night before but she had been so late that they were already in bed, sleeping tranquilly.

Liz knew that if she had woken them up, they would have all stayed up talking and thinking about what might happen at the meeting the next day. Like if they were going to have to leave Earth and the people they loved to go back to Antar. So she had decided to give them one-more night of peaceful, oblivious sleep.

A part of Liz was angry about Thera’s arrival. It was just another way that the alien abyss as Maria called it was going to interfere with the lives they had built for themselves. They had always known they weren’t normal but they had done their best to create their own niche in Roswell. Was there ever going to be a time when their lives when they wouldn’t have to worry about what was coming next?

Philip noticed how Liz was just picking at her food and that she seemed preoccupied. “Liz, you’re awfully quiet this morning. Is something bugging you?”

Their dad’s question pulled everyone’s attention away from what they were eating and talking about and turned to Liz. She suddenly felt like a deer caught in headlights. There was no getting out of it now. “Um…I was just thinking of something that happened to me last night.”

“I thought you were at the Crashdown with Max last night?” Diane asked.

“I was. I stayed until closing then left for home.” Liz said making clear what she meant. “But I kind of ran into someone as I was walking out to the jeep. It was a total surprise and came as a huge shock.”

Michael rolled his eyes, “Enough with the dramatics, what happened?”

There was no easy way to say it so Liz just came out with it. “I met our mother, she’s here on Earth.”

The only sound that could be heard in the kitchen was the shattering of the Tabasco Sauce bottle as it fell out of Isabel’s hand and on to the floor.

PART 23

Michael ran his hand through his hair as he paced back and forth. To say he was nervous was an understatement. For as long as he could remember, he had wanted to meet more of his relatives. He loved his sisters but he had still wanted to meet the others. The Evans had been there for him as much as they could but they hadn’t raised him. He had been raised by a guy who kept him around so he could get some easy money. Who liked to smack him around to entertain himself when he was drunk. Not exactly the kind of upbringing you see in the TV sitcom and now here he was, in the middle of the old soap factory about to meet his mother.

She would actually be in front of him, he would be able to touch her unlike the hologram he had seen before. When Liz had told him that she was there, he had been mad. Mad that Liz had brought her instantly to him and Isabel so they could talk to her. He had even called her selfish and uncaring for keeping it from them.

It wasn’t until Liz had explained her reasoning behind it that his anger started to break. It wasn't solely Liz’s decision to put off a meeting until the next day. It had also been their mother’s. But he was still irritated that she hadn’t told them right away. However that wasn’t to say that he didn’t understand why she’d done it. Because Liz knew them so well, knew that they would have been so uptight for the rest of the night that they would have driven themselves crazy.

Michael looked around for any sign that his mother and whoever else was with them had arrived before he asked, “What time is it now?”

“About five seconds after the last time you asked.” Isabel said. “And will you stop pacing? You’re driving me nuts.”

“And like you clicking your fingernails isn’t making everyone crazy?” Michael snapped.

Isabel looked down at her hands and saw that she had indeed been clicking her nails loudly. “Sorry, but I’m nervous.”

“I think we’ll all feel like that Isabel.” Kyle said from where he was standing with Tess. They had been having breakfast at the Crashdown; the first event of a whole day planned to spend together when Liz had called him. He had quickly told Tess what was going on and told her that he had to leave when she had insisted on going with him.

Tess knew that the other humans and Max would be there so it wouldn’t be strange to have one more humans there. And she wanted to lend her support to Kyle. To let him know that she was there for him. That was important to her for him to know. They had been on a few dates and Tess felt that she wanted to go on more.

Alex moved to sit behind Isabel, draping his legs in a way that hugged hers and wrapped his arms around her to try and take the edge off of her nervousness. Isabel instantly leaned back into his embrace. Like Michael, she’d been upset that Liz had not told them about her meeting their mother but she had not lashed out the way Michael had. Instead her stomach had instantly been filled with butterflies and she had become nervous.

Their parents had taken the news in stride and did what they could to settle the teens down. But Isabel could tell that her mom had been apprehensive about them meeting their birth mother. For years after they’d been found, the Evans had always assumed that the kids’ birth parents would never make an appearance.

When they found out the truth about their origins, they knew that someone would one day come for the kids. They just hadn’t expected it to be so soon. Isabel could understand why they were worried about the meeting. But despite their worries, they told the kids that they thought it would be better if they met their mother alone. That way the kids would not have to be concerned about the parents’ feelings while they were trying to deal with everything going on around them.

Liz watched the whole group anxiously waiting and felt as if she too would go crazy with waiting. It had been her idea to come early so that it might help everyone’s nerves but it hadn’t. Instead of waiting around at home, they were waiting around at the factory. After she had told Michael and Isabel they had quickly called the others in their group and moved quickly to be ready for the meeting. Liz had picked the soap factory because it was hidden away from inquisitive eyes.

Her and Max were now standing by the windows next to the door keeping watch. Max had not pushed her to talk about everything for, which she was grateful, but he made sure that she knew he was there. Like Isabel, she too leaned back into her boyfriend’s embrace as she looked out the window. As she did, she saw half a dozen people approaching, one of them Thera and knew it was time. “Guys, they’re here.”

Everyone, who had been sitting, stood and faced the door. It was hard to tell who was more nervous, the aliens or the humans that stood next to them but the tension was definitely perceptible. Everyone held their breathes as the door opened and the visitors walked in.

Two men came in first, Liz recognized their stances of those who were used to protecting. Thera and another man followed them with a couple following just behind. The man accompanying their mother also seemed be guarding her but something about him was different. His manner even his walk made Liz think of Michael. If she didn’t know he was dead, she would think he was their father.

Thera stepped in front of the guards. She pulled a long chain from underneath her blouse and showed them the pendant that hung on it. It was of the whirlwind galaxy and almost identical to Liz’s. “I am pleased that you could meet us. Seeing the four of you is something we could only hope for.”

Thera eyes rested on Liz, Michael, and Isabel’s faces for a moment, tears in her eyes before blinking them away. “I am Thera. This is Cyan, one of mine and your father’s oldest and most trustworthy friend.”

Cyan half nodded, half bowed to them. “I was second in command under your father. I also helped to train Prince Rath to take over my position under his sister’s rule. These two are under my command as your mother’s personal guards.”

The two guards properly bowed to them then but did not say a word. Instead Thera introduced the final two people. “This is Jai and Tona, parents of Derogo.”

Kyle gasped so softly that it was almost impossible to hear but his face was enough to show his shock. Liz had prepared him to meet her and the other’s mother not his own parents. He knew he might hear news about them but that was it. To see them standing in front of him was so unexpected that he didn’t know how to react therefore he stayed silent.

Liz knew she was the expected leader of her group so she stepped forward, releasing Max’s hand as she did. Taking a formal tone like Thera had used, she introduced herself. “My name is Liz, I am told that I once lived as Shyla, oldest child of King Radon and Queen Thera and was Queen of Antar.”

“This is my brother Michael, otherwise known as Rath, his girlfriend Maria, my sister otherwise known as Vilandra, her boyfriend Alex.” Liz said pointing to each of them then turned to the others.

“Derogo, who is known as Kyle and his…companion Tess. And this is Max my boyfriend. We have trusted them with our lives and they have been there for us through everything.”

“It is our honor to meet such trusted people who have been there for our children.” Thera said half bowing in respect before turning to address Liz again. “Now I have a favor I must ask.”

“Yes?”

“To forgo the formalities and allow us to embrace you as our children. It has been a great many years since we were able to see our children alive and well.” Thera beseeched.

Liz smiled slightly. She had been prim and proper because she had thought that was what was expected. But she felt better in the relaxed atmosphere and knew that the others would be too. She nodded and advanced as Thera did the same. Thera pulled her close and hugged her tight. As the two embraced, Isabel stepped from behind, with tears in her eyes. Thera hugged Liz for another minute before releasing her and hugging Isabel.

Jai and Tona stepped forward as well and hugged Kyle. Kyle was hesitant at first, he still wasn’t completely comfortable with showing affection but after a moment his resolve crumbled and he hugged them both back. Surprisingly Michael did not react the way Kyle did but freely and without hesitation hugged his mother. It was Maria then who had tears in her eyes. She knew how much that moment meant to him and it was like seeing another block in his stonewall crumble down.

As the hugging ended, and the seriousness of the meeting came back, Michael couldn’t help but ask, “How did you find us?”

“We intercepted a signal a few months back. It was from Nicole to Kivar notifying him that they had located you and were planning to attack.” Thera explained.

“So Kivar knows our location as well?” Liz asked. She was scared that another group of skins would be coming to Roswell after them.

“No, he never received the message.” Thera said.

“Why not?”

“By the time we picked up the message, there was no one left alive on Antar to receive it.” Cyan stated. “When it became apparent that we would overtake his side and win the war, he unleashed a weapon that wiped out the whole planet including himself.”

Here's finally an explaination of Liz and Max's connection.

PART 24

It took several minutes for Cyan’s words to sink in. The dreaded enemy that they had heard so much about was dead. The first reaction from the group was Michael who asked, “Are you sure that he is dead?”

“Yes. The weapon he launched was biological in nature. It infested and contaminated everything. The air, the water, the plant and animal life. Every element on the planet was contaminated to the point that the planet was barren.” Cyan explained. “There was no way he could have survived.”

“How were able to survive then?” Max asked.

“We weren’t on Antar at the time. We were orbiting the atmosphere in one of our cruisers.” Thera answered.

“Days before, we overtook the last cruisers under Kivar’s control and were about to land. We had planned to land; join forces with our ground troops then launch the final attack on the palace. Kivar caught wind of our plans and planned to launch the ‘virus’ after we landed. If he couldn’t be king and rule the planet, he would make sure there was no planet left to rein. His timing was off and it was launched a full day before we landed.” Cyan explained.

“There was no warning, not even a hint that he was creating a weapon like it. If we had known we would have tried to do something. Attacked sooner or evacuated to one of the other planets but there was no time. When we tried to make contact with our people, there was no response.” Thera stated remorsefully.

“After a few days, we sent probes to scout out what had happened. The images and data we received back showed the devastation. We were able to direct it to the palace where we saw his body. The war was over but we had to pay too high of a penalty for it.”

“How many of you are there?” Isabel asked.

“About two dozen on Earth at the moment, two hundred in the ships. The ships are hiding in the shadow of Earth’s moon to avoid detection. We could have gone to one of the other planets that was close to Antar but decided to come here. We wanted to find the four of you.” Thera answered.

“So your plans are to stay here?” Liz asked wide eyed.

“If it is possible, yes. We are a small scouting party, sent to seek you out and see if it is achievable for us to try and relocate to Earth permanently.” Thera stated.

“It will be difficult, you will have to lead very private lives and have to adjust to the customs of Earth but I think that it could be possible.” Liz stated.

“What of Nicole and her men?” Cyan asked. “Did they attack?”

“Yes, a few months back.” Michael answered. “They tried to attack us before we knew what was happening but our duplicates came and warned us. They had been attack too but escaped and came to Roswell. The nine of us all ganged up our powers on them and kicked their asses.”

“You only have one protector with you?” Cyan asked.

“Two protectors were killed in the crash. The other two split up the pods, one took the duplicates to New York while our protector hid us here. When the skins attacked the group in New York they killed their protector and then came to Roswell and killed ours before the final battle.” Liz explained.

“Then how were there nine of you?” Thera asked.

“Hmm…that’s kind of a long story.” Liz said. “When Isabel, Michael and I hatched, our protector wasn’t there and we wondered out into the desert.”

“You see, Kyle hadn’t hatched yet and we left him behind. We were raised by humans and didn’t know anything about ourselves or where we came from but knew to keep our powers hidden. But just over a year ago, Michael and I were in a local café. Max, Alex, and Maria were there as well. We knew them but weren’t really friends. A gun went off and Max was hit. He was dying and I couldn’t let that happen so I healed him.”

“After I healed him, I had to tell him the truth about us. After I did, he agreed to keep our secret. However enough people had been around in the café that people were suspicious. Alex was one person as was the local sheriff. Max had to eventually tell Alex and the two helped us distract the sheriff and throw suspicion off of us for a little bit.”

It took some time as the teens told their story. They took turns so that everything was covered but eventually they got through everything. They talked about Michael breaking into the Sheriff’s office, Maria finding out about them, Ms. Pierce’s ruse at the school to learn more about them, the couples getting closer, the discovery of the cave and its contents in the woods. They listened in rapt attention as Liz told them when she vaguely described their awakenings, Kyle and Nasedo’s arrival in Roswell.

They were curious as how although Liz had felt the encoded pull towards Kyle, she had refused to accept him. She explained how she had been with Max and her heart had told her to be with him so she had ignored the encoding. They moved past it and talked about when the FBI had captured Liz.

The testing that had been done on Liz horrified the adult aliens and she hadn’t even told them all of it. Isabel conveyed what the others had done to rescue her then went on to tell them about seeing the message orb that explained who they were. They recounted their challenging training sessions with Nasedo, building their powers, telling their adopted parents about their true identities and how they had discovered Max had become a hybrid because of Liz’s healing him.

That bit of information caused many questions to be answered. They were curious as to his symptoms he’d experienced the type of powers he displayed as well as their intensity. Max gave them a demonstration of what he could do, created a large ball of fire before draining it of its temperature and freezing it. They were impressed by his control and he told them that Liz and Michael had been the ones who trained him to use them.

Once Max had demonstrated his powers, the groups went on to tell them more about Shyla, Lonnie, Rath and Dero coming to town. They relayed everything that the dupes had told them about their lives and what they had learned from them, like the information about the skins.

That lead into talking about Courtney and learning that some of the skins were on their side. They told them about how Nasedo had disappeared, only to resurface on the verge of death. Liz explained about how she had tried to heal him but he had pushed her out of his head. But that she had been in his head long enough to know that the skins were coming after them very soon. Cyan applauded their strategies at trapping the skins and their battle plan.

The final part of the story entailed them relaying the details of their battle with the skins. They split up the account by giving different points of view of the battle like Michael and Kyle’s head on fire fight with the skins as well as Max’s confrontation with Jesse and Liz’s with Nicole. They told about how the dupes had made the decision to go back to New York and make their lives there. Thera made the remark that they would have to go to New York to let them know that Antar had been destroyed and that they did not need to worry about more enemies.

“I have a question of a more personal nature that I hope you can answer.” Liz stated.

“I can do my best to try.” Thera said.

“I know that when I healed Max that I changed him into a hybrid. But something else happened as well.” Liz said. “First I should tell you that ever since I first saw Max, I’ve felt like a magnet pulled me to him. It’s like I fell in love with him at first sight before I even knew what love was. It’s why I healed him, I couldn’t imagine letting him die when I could help him.”

“After I healed him, the pull got stronger and was not only on my side. There was something between, a connection if you will, that was very powerful. We could sense each other and eventually it evolved. There have been a few times when I have been in danger and somehow used the connection to absorb his powers somehow.”

“It happened when the FBI had me and in the final battle with Nicole. When I did that, I was able to use them. So far it only seems as if I could do it in extreme circumstances but not at will. Do you know anything about what it is?”

“Possibly, tell me more about when you healed him. You said you used a lot of power, enough to change him into a hybrid, what else happened?” Thera asked.

“That’s about it except that a few days after I healed him, I wanted to show him that I wasn’t a monster or anything so I reversed the connection.”

“That is what I thought. And so I think I have an answer for you. Liz, tell me, what do you know of our people’s history? Of how our family came into power?” Thera asked.

“Only what our protector told us. That long ago, Antar was ruled much like the country of England here was back in medieval times. Several powerful lords broke up the planet and they reigned over their lands. This went on until there were too many fights between the different lords.”

“Then a group of the lords allied themselves and put their support behind the person that they thought should be the king. A war broke out and they were victorious. That king was our ancestor and ever since our family has been the ruler of the planet.” Liz said telling her what she knew.

“Yes, he was.” Thera smiled. “Now what you must understand is that those were very dark times. Before and during the wars, our people were very vicious in their fighting. Because of that many people died, wiping out at least half the population of the planet. After things were settled and peace was achieved, it was clear that the people needed to do whatever they could to help the population grow.”

“Were things that bad?” Max couldn’t help asking.

“Yes Max, they were.” Thera answered. “Things were so bad that we had to alter some things, our whole way of marriage and reproducing. Other wise we might face extinction.”

“It was decided that each woman needed to have at least two children with two different men. It was the best way to produce as many offspring as possible of different ancestry. At the time, that was unheard of because when two of our people mated, they mated for life.” Thera stated.

Seeing that she was confusing them, she did her best to elaborate. “When two of our people chose to bond to the other, we do it through not only a physical union, which is minor but also a mental union. During the bonding an empathic and telepathic connection is opened and bonds the two’s consciousness together.”

“It is comparable to the connections that Liz opens when she heals but much more powerful and two sided. Because of how powerful the connection is, both parties have to give consent to it. Because they would be so linked to each other, emotionally and physically there had to be unconditional love and trust between the two of them. After all who wants to be bonded to someone for the rest of their lives who they do not have faith in. Because of that, a couple have usually known each other since they were young.”

“But with the need to reproduce to restore the population, those bonds would inhibit the undertaking. A mated couple could only be together. So those who were not bonded were denied the bonding. They simply did not open the connection when they normally would. Over the generations, it became so much of a habit to renounce the bonding that it became the way of our people just as much as the bond had been before.” Thera stated.

“But from what you have told me of your connection with Max, I believe that you inadvertently bonded yourselves to each other in the days after your healing him and completed it later when you reversed the connection. Max trusted you and you trusted him and it bonded you.”

“But why did Nasedo never tell me about this?” Liz asked. “He knew I had a connection to Max but he always acted clueless when I asked him about it.”

“Some people do not like to speak of the old ways, and never teach their children of them. Nasedo might not have told you because he simply didn’t know.” Thera shrugged.

“There are so many things that we still have no answers for.” Michael stated.

“Michael, we are not going anywhere. We have plenty of time to answer your questions and hopefully get to know you.” Thera said then looked at the humans. “All of you.”

As more talking ensued, Max leaned closer to Liz and took hold of her hand. “Are you okay?”

“Shouldn’t I be asking you that? After all, you just found out that we’re stuck with each other.”

“Whether we were bonded or not, my heart was yours. I don’t want anyone but you.” Max declared. “But I wanted to wee how you were handling the knowledge that your planet is gone. I know you had misgivings about going back but now you’ll never see your home.”

“I’m sad that so many people died and their planet was destroyed but you’re wrong about it being my home. Earth is my home, with my family and with you.” Liz acknowledged before leaning over and planting a soft kiss on his lips. .

PART 25-Epilonge

5 years later

If a stranger looked at the Evans’ backyard the first thing that would come to mind was that it was decked out for one hell of a party. Flowers were draped over anything that wasn’t moving. On one end, several round tables were set up along with two long ones all covered in table clothes of varying colors. On the other end of the yard, two dozen or more chairs were arranged in two rows, all filled and facing a raised archway. The chairs were separated into two sections by an ivory colored carpet runner that ran from the archway to a foot or so beyond the chairs.

Max, Alex, and Philip Evans appeared under the archway, all dressed in tuxes. They all had happy grins although Max’s was mixed with nervousness. Today was one of the most important of his life, nervousness was natural. A soft melody suddenly filled the air, coming from an unknown source. The people in the audience included his parents, his grandparents and a few other close family members, Alex’s parents, Maria’s mom on his side.

On Liz’s were Diane, Sheriff Valenti, Tess, Kyle, Jai, Tona, Thera, Cyan and a small number of the other refugees from Antar who they had become close to. Throughout the rest of the junior year and the summer after, Liz and the others had worked hard at helping the Antarian refuges put down roots. But they had accomplished it and now there were two hundred and thirty Antarians spread out through out New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. Liz and Max had wanted a small ceremony, just their family. The other human parents knew all about the aliens and had accepted it. They all stood and turned to face the back of the chairs.

Maria Deluca stepped out from the back door of the Evans’ house, clothed in a dress of light blue satin. Her hair was mostly down with a lily stuck in it and a bouquet of lilies in her hand. As she walked down the aisle to the front she was all smiles. Two of her best friends were getting married and she couldn’t be happier.

Isabel was next, dressed in a similar color of dress as Maria but in a style more suited to fit her taller figure. Her hair had been upswept into a taut twist but held no flowers. She held a bouquet of lilies as well and hidden underneath was a band of gold. Liz had bought it at the only jewelry store in Roswell but had added some of her own touches thanks to her alien powers. Alien powers had helped with the planning of the wedding. After all, Isabel had been the organizer of the whole thing and she wanted to make sure everything was perfect.

As Isabel reached middle of the isle a little three years old girl came into view and started her trek down the isle. She was dressed in blue too but a few shades darker than the others were. Her unruly hair that she had gotten from her father, but the color from her mother was pulled into a tight braid. She smiled at all the people who watched her plucking flowers from her small basket before dropping them on the ground. She loved having the attention on her and only her mother signaling her hurried her along aisle so the wedding could go on.

The last to become visible were Liz and Michael. Ever since Philip had become a judge, Liz and Isabel were both unwavering in their want of having their dad marry them. And since he would be busy, Michael had been happy to step in to give Liz away. He was dressed like the other guys in a tux, which he had been tugging at up until they moment they exited the door.

Max’s breath caught when he first saw Liz. She too held a bouquet of the flowers but larger than the girls. Her dress was an elegant empress style made of a rich champagne color satin, even after so many years she still had an aversion to white and insisted on the altering the traditional color. Her hair was down and fell around her shoulders in big curls. She wore no veil, just a small circlet of gold that Thera had given her. It was a family piece that Thera had been wearing when Antar was destroyed. It was one of the view remnants they had left from there. But what was most beautiful was the smile Liz gave him as Michael led her up the isle.

Once they arrived Michael kissed Liz’s cheek before releasing her hold on his arm and moving it to Max’s. Max was sure he looked like a love struck idiot as he looked at Liz but didn’t care. Her smile grew bigger as they turned and faced her dad.

“Dearly beloved we are gathered here…”

An hour later, the ceremony and pictures were over and the party was in full swing. The long tables were full of food, an ice sculpture as well as a large cake that a certain three-year-old was eyeing. She had a huge sweet tooth when she was allowed to eat sweets, which she was often sneaked by her aunts and uncles.

The group had been in their first year of college when Maria had gotten pregnant with Brianna and it came as a big surprise. After all they were only nineteen. Maria and Michael told the group first who had talked with them and helped to reassure them that things would be okay. They had a large family between the eight teens and several parents and they would work things out. As soon as the panic subsided, Maria and Michael were thrilled.

The gang had been extremely lucky when it came to the arrangements they had decided on to help with the baby. They, with the parents backing, had decided it was smarter if they all rented one large house. They had found one quickly, a five bedroom house with a full basement. Maria and Michael had taken the basement since it would give them the most room with the baby. Alex and Isabel, and Max and Liz took two of the other bedrooms while Tess and Kyle took separate rooms. It was a good idea since they were the couple who had been together the least and might not feel comfortable living together that closely. But after a few months had proved to be a pointless since they spent every night together anyway.

Brianna had only been in her mom’s belly for six months when she decided to show that she had inherited her mother’s flair for dramatics. She had been three months earlier than a normal human pregnancy because of her father’s alieness but a perfectly healthy seven-pound baby girl with a tuff of spiky blonde hair.

So far Brianna had shown the ability to manipulate the colors and stuff of objects but it would still be a few years before she showed her mental gifts. Although Liz was sure that mind control if the way she had her Daddy wrapped around her finger was any indication.

Liz couldn’t help but smile at all of her family. Between college, working, and taking care of Brianna, the last few years had been full of activity and hectic. They had graduated from college just a month before and they would be going out on their own. Michael, Maria, and Brianna had their own house now and had moved in just two weeks before they graduated. Isabel and Alex as well as Kyle and Tess had gotten their own apartments. Liz and Max were moving to Santa Fe and moving into the house Max had inherited from his grandmother. Liz had a job lined up at a lab while she did her graduate work. She was going to go into genetic research while Max would begin his job as a guidance counselor. It had just felt right for him to try and help kids. Whether you were a human or a hybrid, the teen years were hard and having someone there who was closer their age to talk to could help.

“You look like someone who is thinking way too hard for a girl on her wedding day.” Liz heard her sister say as she walked up next to her.

“Just thinking, about the last few years. Even with you and I becoming aunts while we were so young and living in a house full of both aliens and hybrids, our lives have been very quiet and normal. Normal for us anyway.” Liz explained.

“I know what you mean.” Isabel agreed. “For the first year in college, I was worried that the bubble would burst and something would happen. Like the FBI would come back or an invasion of some type.”

“I felt the same way. I know I drove Max nuts. I was constantly calling Thera, even Shyla to make sure everything was okay.” Liz stated. “But I’m starting to realize that while we have to stay on alert that stuff is over. The Special Unit is not rising from the ashes and our enemies killed themselves because they wouldn’t give in. They’re just ghosts of our pasts and we can’t let them haunt the future.”

“You’re right.” Isabel said. “We have to move forward.”

“Have you and Alex talked anymore about getting married?” Liz asked. She knew that they had both talked about getting married but had not settled on anything. It somewhat surprised Liz since they had always been the steady couple amongst the group. Maria had asked Alex once about it and he had told her that they knew that they were going to be together, that they were it for each other so they didn’t necessarily need a piece of paper to prove it to everyone else.

Isabel’s face broke out into a smile. “Yeah, we have. I didn’t want to take away from your day but we planned on announcing in a few days that we want to get married in six months.”

Liz pulled Isabel into a hug. “I’m so happy for you two.”

The girls continued to hug for a few minutes before a voice interrupted. “Do you think I can steal my wife away so we can have our first dance?”

Liz pulled away from Isabel and looked over at Max. He looked so incredibly handsome in his tux. She of course had seen him in one before, in high school when they had gone to prom but he looked even better now. He had filled out even more in the past couple years and any residual baby fat he had on him had melted away and left a very well-built sexy man. She smiled wider at him before taking his proffered hand and letting him take her out to the dance floor. Once they were there, the first cords of a song started.

Come to me now
And lay your hands over me
Even if it's a lie
Say it will be alright
And I shall believe

I'm broken in two
And I know you're on to me
That I only come home
When I'm so all alone
But I do believe

As Liz snuggled tighter into Max’s embrace she realized how appropriate the song was. It fit all the high and lows that her and Max had been through.

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly you won't give up on me
And I shall believe
And I shall believe

Open the door
And show me your face tonight
I know it's true
No one heals me like you
And you hold the key
“You look so unbelievably beautiful today.” Max whispered in her ear. “I didn’t think it was possible for you to look any more beautiful than you do everyday until I saw you and Michael come out of the house.”

Liz blushed at his comments. He was always saying something like that but even after the years they had been together, she couldn’t get used to it. “You look pretty good yourself.”

Never again
would I turn away from you
I'm so heavy tonight
But your love is alright
And I do believe

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly
You won't give up on me
And I shall believe
I shall believe

As the song ended, Max cupped Liz’s face and kissed her passionately. When they were done, he laid his forehead against hers as she whispered. “I love you Max Parker.”

“I love you too Liz Parker.”

(*(*(*(*(*(*(*(**)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)

Today is September 17th and today I became Liz Parker

It’s hard to believe that six years ago today, Max was shot in his parents café and I healed him. The event that led to everything including him now being my husband today. This journal was one of his wedding presents to me. I think it was part of an inside joke we shared years ago when he said that I should write our story down and publish it. I doubt I’ll ever actually publish it but I thought it was a good idea to write it down. So here I am, sitting next to my exhausted husband **wink wink**, knowing I too should be sleeping but I’m too wound up to sleep.

I can’t help but wonder what will happen in the future. I know that we will be happy and be together and that’s what’s important. We will have children and someday grandchildren. They will know that they are different but they will not have to be alone like the three of us felt like when we were growing up. Well I’m putting this away for now so I can watch Max sleep for a little while. But I have one last thing to say, I’m Liz Parker and I’m happy.

THE END

**Yep, you guys read right. That's the end. This story is the longest one I've ever written and with the most plotlines. I loved reading all of your feedback and want to say thank you for both the feedback and the nominations that you gave this story.**
