How To Be A Player Max's POV (Complete)

Post by Crashdown2006 »

How To Be A Player

Summary: Max is the ultimate player, until he meets his match and falls in love.

Disclaimer: I don’t own anything, but I came up with the idea when I found out my ex-boyfriend was cheating on me.

Prologue:

Hi. I’m Max Evans and I am the world’s best player. Or at least I was until I met the one woman who could actually change me.

Now the three basic rules to being a player are:

#1. Don’t get too overwhelmed.
#2. Get with as many girls as possible.
#3. Don’t get caught.

My best friends Michael, Alex, and Kyle all started out as players. Keyword started out. They ended up getting too attached. But I told myself that I would never get too attached.

Part 1.

“Hey, Max! Telephone!” My sister, Isabel yelled at me. She was downstairs.

I went over to the phone and picked it up.

“Hello.” I say into the receiver.

“Hey, baby.” The person on the other line says. It’s Stacey, girlfriend number one.

“Hey.” I say and then go and sit on my bed.

Stacey is the world’s biggest airhead. I had one of my girlfriends with us on a date, and she still wouldn’t know a thing. But there is one thing she is good for, if you catch my drift.

“So Max, about our date yesterday, you were really good.” Stacey says, which kind of arouses me.

I was about to suggest something, but the phone beeps meaning I have another call.

“I’m going to have to call you back, Stacey. I have another phone call, and it’s really important.” I lie. I have no idea who is on the other line.

“Ok, goodbye, lover.” Stacey says and then hangs up the phone. I swear she is the biggest airhead. I can’t believe she bought it.

I hang up the phone too and then see who is on the other line.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my story!!

Part 1b

“Hello.” I say into the phone.

“Max?” The person on the other line says, it’s Amber, girlfriend number two.

“Hi, Amber.” I say.

After being with Amber for only about a week I have learned to be casual. And if I do that I can usually get what I want.

“Max, we need to talk.” She says. This is never a good thing.

“What do you want to talk about?” I ask, trying to be sweet and innocent. It works sometimes

But not this time.

“Maxwell Evans! Don’t think I am stupid. I know about you and Stacey! I saw you with her yesterday! And now I am going to break up with you! So brace yourself, good bye!” She yelled at me through the phone and then hung up.

I sighed and hung up my phone. It always happens like this. The girl gets all worked up and breaks up with me. I make her think I’m sorry so she will forgive me. And if she doesn’t, I’m usually over it in about an hour. If not less.

After about ten minutes in my room all alone, I got bored. So I decided to go to Michael’s house. Him and Maria usually always have a party going or something.

I got up off of my bed and grabbed a sweatshirt, after all it was cold outside, and put it on. Then I walked down the stairs.

“Mom! Dad! I’m going to Michael’s house!” I yell as I walk out the door.

I walked down main street. I know, I could have driven, which would have taken less time, but I really wanted to think. Or just to get away for a minute.

I walked by the Crashdown Cafe and I looked in. It’s owned by Mr. and Mrs. Parker, who just happen to live in the apartment above the restaurant. I remember that they have a daughter, but I think that they sent her away to live with her grandmother or something like that. Well anyways, no one has seen her in about four years. I think her name was Lizzy or something, ‘cause me and Michael used to call her Lizzy Lizard. I had a crush on her. But I was like twelve and it wasn’t really cool to have a girlfriend, or to even really like a girl for that matter.

I shake my head to clear my thoughts and then I realize where I am. I’m at Michael’s house. But he’s not home, so I just turn around and walk back home in the dark.

Part 2
I got home at around 11:45 pm. I had been walking around town all night. And I had needed something to really think about. So I had mostly just debated in my head as to why Lizzy left. But even after all that I still had no idea why.

Anyways I got home and then just went to bed. After all I did have school the next day and I needed to look my best for the ladies.

The next day

As usual I forgot to set my alarm clock, so I ended up being late for school. But I got there just in time for the second bell to ring. It signified that I was late, and yet how I could have made it if I had just tried a bit harder.

I made my way to first hour, which was with Mr. Orwell, Math.

I don’t really understand why a person needs to take so many math classes in their life. It seems that you don’t need anymore math training after the age of seven. After all by then don’t you know all the concepts? And I can count. I can even count how many girlfriends I have. See, 1,2,3. Not my best but a guy has to do what a guy has to do.

I walked into the classroom and sat down in front of Maria. I would need someone to talk to during the boring parts of the class. But I knew that she would make fun of me being late later on today.

Lunch

“Hey guys, guess who was late for Math class today?” Maria yelled to Michael and the others as we walked over to our lunch table.

“Max, my man, how do you do it? You always manage to be late on Mondays. Is it a curse or something?” Alex said walking over and patting me on the back.

“I don’t know, Alex.” I say. I’m really not in the mood for ridicule so I go and sit down at the table. Kyle sits down right beside me and turns to face me.

“So, Max, I heard about you and Amber. And I must say that you got burnt! But man you gotta give up the player facade. It’s getting old.” Kyle says. I sigh, he does this every time a girl breaks up with me because I’m a player.

“Kyle this is getting old.” I say.

“Not really. I heard that Amber told Stacey about you and now she is going to break up with you. Oh look here she comes now.” Michael says.

I looked up and sure enough he was right. Walking towards our table was Stacey. I thought really quick and came up with a plan that was sure to keep Stacey with me and make her forget about Amber.

“Hey Stacey!” I yell running over to her.

‘Let phase one begin.’

“Max we need to talk.” She says. What is it with girls and always starting every break up conversation with ‘we need to talk’? It gets old fast.

“Stacey! I’ve been looking all over for you. I heard you were going to break up with me.” I say, keeping cool.

“Well, Max you heard right. I talked to Amber, you know the girl you were cheating on me with, and she told me all about you two.” Stacey says.

‘Phase two now please.’

“Amber? Amber Cowens?” I ask. And I’m good at doing the little questioning voice.

“Yeah, you should know her. After all she said that you two had quite the relationship going.” Stacey yelled.

I laughed at this. It was all part of my plan and here is where it unfolded.

“Why are you laughing?” Stacey asked.

Bingo! This is where I finish up with professional accuracy.

“Oh, Amber. I broke up with her last year. I didn’t think that she would stoop so low as to tell you that we were still going out.” I lied.

Now I just have to wait and see if it works.

“Oh. I had no idea. I guess I’m just way too gullible.” Stacey says.

She has no idea how gullible she really is.

“I’m sorry Max. I guess I’ll call you later.” Stacey says and then walks away.

I shake my arms so I can be relaxed and walk back over to the table where everyone is sitting and watching, with their mouths practically hanging open.

“How do you do it?” Isabel asked me as I sat down.

“It takes talent, and a whole lot of practice.” I reply.

“Nah. Stacey’s just a dumb blonde.” Tess says.

Alex then coughed and said something under his breath which got him and punch on both his arms. One from Isabel and one from Kyle.

First things first let me tell you about my friends.

First there’s Michael who is a loaded cannon that will pick a fight with just about anybody. Michael is going out with Maria. Maria is a mouth. She never seems to stop talking. But she can be a great listener too when you need someone to talk to about your problems.

Then there’s Kyle. He’s a jock that practices Buddhism. Sounds stupid, I know, but it’s not as bad as it sounds. Kyle’s dating Tess. Tess is not exactly pretty or anything. She’s cool, but she can be a little stupid at times. All I’m saying is that I wouldn’t date her.

Then there’s Alex. He’s a dork. But he’s actually really cool. He also happens to be dating my sister, Isabel. It did prove a problem at first, but I’ve gotten used to the idea. But there’s always the threat of me beating his ass if he breaks her heart.

And that’s my group of friends. It’s small but I like it that way.

Anyways here we are after the Stacey scenario.

“Max what is it with you and girls?” Maria asks.

“I don’t know. I mean I bet I could get any girl in school if I wanted to.” I reply.

“Oh yeah. Would you like to make it a real bet?” Maria asked me. I could tell that she was baiting me.

“Sure why not?” I reply, “Who do you have for me?”

“Liz Parker.” Maria says, leaving me speechless.

I wanted to thank everyone for the wonderful feedback. You are all great. So here is a new part for you. :)

Part 3

“Maria. Reality check. Liz lives with her grandmother in a different state.” Michael says.

“Not anymore. As you all know, I work at the Crashdown. And Mr. and Mrs. Parker are my bosses. And you would not believe what they told me. Liz is coming back. I’m not sure why, but she is.” Maria explains.

I looked over at Maria. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do this or not. I mean it was Liz. But I don’t know what she is like now. I just hope that she doesn’t learn from anyone about my reputation.

“Ok, Maria, I’ll do it. But no money. I just want to see if I can do it.” I say. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

I can’t help but wonder what I am going to do about this. I’m curious as to why Liz came back. So I guess I will have to ask her. Oh yeah that’s great. ‘Hi, will go you go out with me? And by the way why did you leave and then come back four years later?’ I can see now that it might be a bit harder than I had expected.

Just then the bell rings signifying that the lunch hour was over. So I got up along with everyone else and went to my next hour class.

That night

School sucks. I swear that every teacher has it in for me. But now I’m home so I might as well call Nicole. Nicole is my other girlfriend. She goes to school in Sante Fe.

I picked up my phone and dialed Nicole’s number. It rung three times until she picked it up.

“Hello.” She says.

“Hey Nicole.” I say back to her.

Nicole is one of those punk rock people who wears black a lot and has her nose and tounge pierced. She’s cool and very mature, and not at all dumb. Why do you think she goes to a different school? It’s so she won’t find out about me and Stacey.

“Hey Max, I have a question for you. Have you ever had the feeling that you don’t control your life. That it has already been planned out for you. Even before you were born?” She asked.

She is obviously watching Final Destination.

“Yeah sure I do. Every time that I watch Final Destination. Do you happen to be watching Final Destination?” I ask, although I already know the answer.

“Yeah I am. How did you know?” She asked.

Nicole is smart. It’s just that when she is watching a movie her attention is usually taken away from the person she happens to be talking to.

“Just a guess. Nicole do you want me to call you some other time?” I ask.

“Please. I’m sorry but this movie is really good and I don’t want to miss a thing.” She says and then hangs up.

I hung up too. Then I went to my closet and got some clean clothes so I could take a shower. Then I planned on taking a shower. And after that I planned on going to the old soap factory where Alex and Maria were performing tonight.

Alex has a band call the Whits. And Maria is his lead singer. They decide to make a band some time last year and they started performing a few months ago. Now it was a weekly thing to go to their performances.

One hour later

I got to the soap factory at about 7:30. And when I walked in and the first person I saw was Michael. So I walked over to him.

“Hey, Max, what you up to? Still hell bent on getting with Lizzy Lizard?” Michael asked me as I sat down at the table he was sitting at.

I guess I wasn’t the only one who remembered the nickname.

“Yeah I am. You gotta problem with it?” I ask.

“No not at all. I just don’t think it will work because she will make you get to know her and you will like what you find and fall in love. Trust me it’s what happened with me, Kyle, and Alex.” Michael explained to me.

“Trust me it wont happen. I wont get too attached.” I say.

And I was sure of that. Or at least I thought that I was. At the moment I just wanted to show Michael up.

Here is the next part. I'm sorry it's so short, but I will try to make the next part longer.

Part: 4a

The next day was very hectic for me. I had learned from Maria that it was supposed to be Liz’s first day back in Roswell. And now I had to be the first person, that is student, that welcomed her back to Roswell and of course school.

So here I am in the Student Union Office, where all the new kids go to get their schedules, under the false pretences that I lost my schedule. And now when Liz gets here I can ask her what classes she has and compare them to mine. Genius, I know.

“Here you go Mr. Evans. Here is your schedule. I’m surprised that you haven’t already memorized it by now.” Mrs. Jacobs, the secretary, says to me as she hands me my schedule.

“I know Mrs. Jacobs. I will try my hardest from now on.” I say. A little ass kissing is in line. But that’s to be expected.

I finally decide that Liz isn’t going to show, and that Maria had her information wrong. So I decide to leave.

I turn around to go, defeated, ‘cause I haven’t seen Liz yet. And run right into the person that was standing behind me. I look up and I have to keep myself in check when I see who it is that I ran into. It’s Liz Parker, and she hasn’t changed at all. She has glasses and frizzy hair. And this makes me want to laugh but I don’t.

I step aside and let her pass and then go over to a chair and sit down and pretend to read my schedule. But all the while I’m shooting tiny glances over to Liz.

Finally Liz is done and she starts to walk out of the office. I wait a minute and then I leave too. But when I get to the hallway it is empty.

Part 4b

I walked to my locker, thinking about Liz Parker and how she hadn’t really changed. She was still a dork with her frizzy hair and glasses.

I was messing with the combination on my locker when I heard someone banging on their locker. So I turned around to see who it was.

It was Liz Parker.

She had apparently been given the wrong combination for the lock. So I went over to help her. It’s a good ice breaker isn’t it? But then I realize something. She looks different than how she looked earlier. She didn’t have her glasses on and her hair was smoother. Like she had brushed it.

“Hi. Do you need some help?” I asked when I got to where she was.

“No, I’ve got it. Thank you very much.” She said angrily.

What was her problem? I had done nothing to her.

“No really I can help you. I had this locker about a year ago and I remember the combination.” I say hoping she will say yes.

I smile as she takes a step back and allows me to work my magic. I step up to the locker and put in the combination. It pops open with ease. So I took a step back and smile as she steps up and puts her bag in the locker and then shuts it.

“Could you write that down for me?” She asked, which made me smile. So I got out a piece of paper and wrote it down.

I was just about to give it to her when I feigned recognition.

“Hey aren’t you Liz Parker? You went here until seventh grade. So now you are back?” I say handing her the paper.

“Yeah I am. And yeah I did. And I am surprised that you actually know my name. I always thought I was Lizzy Lizard to you.” She said. Then she grabbed the paper out of my hand and marched off down the hall.

“Oh man. Burn!” Someone said from behind me. I recognized the voice as Michael’s so I turned around to face him.

“Shut up.” I say and then I punch him in the arm.

“Don’t worry, man. I think she likes you.” Michael said as we started walking down the hall.

“Do you really think so?” I ask. After all she did let me try to open her locker for her.

“No I don’t. I was just trying to make you feel better.” He says.

“Gee thanks.” I say. Then I walk away from him and go into my first hour class and sit in my usual seat in front of Maria.

I had told Maria about my plan to meet Liz this morning and in return she had offered to take my books to class for me. You know just in case I was late or something. And now being Maria she wanted to know everything.

“So how did it go with Lizzie? Did you two talk?” She asked.

“Now class settle down.” The teacher says walking in. It isn’t our usual teacher. He must be sick or something.

Maria poked me in the back, but I just ignored her. I wanted to make her impatient, which isn’t a hard job. She’s funny when she’s impatient.

It worked. She got really annoyed instead though and ended up poking me in the back again. Harder this time. It hurt. So I turned around in my seat really fast and faced her.

“What?” I whispered.

“I want to know what happened this morning.” She said. I could work with this.

“Well it went well. I woke up and then I had this great shower.” I say which leaves Maria with a very dangerous look on her face.

“I meant with Liz, you dumbass.” Maria said which surprised me. I knew Maria only cursed when she was getting mad.

“Ok. Ok.” I say holding my hands up in front of my face.

“Good. Now start talking buster.” She says calming down.

“Ok so I went to Student Union and waited for her, like I said I would, and I saw her. She’s the same Lizzy Lizard we used to know. But she’s different. I know don’t really know what that means you would just have to see her. Anyways it turns out she has my old locker and she had the wrong combination for it. So I gave it to her. Then I acted like I remembered her, but she already knew me. And I think that she hates me.” I explained.

“Well Max, it looks like you are going to be having some problems in the future.” Maria says to me then she starts on her work which is my cue to turn around.

So I turn around and start to do my work.

I have decided not to include a Liz POV for now. I may slip one in here or there later on, but right now it’s just Max and his personal thoughts. And with out any further ado, here is the new part.

Part 5

“Ok that was a very productive hour.” I say to Maria as we are walking out of the classroom.

“Yeah that Mr. Booger was a horrid sub.” Maria replies turning around and walking down the hall.

“It was Bogger!” I yell at her retreating figure.

I sighed and turned to walk to my locker. And I see Kyle in the hall, so I walk over to him to say hi.

“Hey, man, beware the substitute in the Math room.” I say when I walk by him.

“Point taken!” He yelled back at me. But I just raised my hand and waved. It’s our way of either acknowledging each other or just saying hi or bye.

I continue on my way to my locker and I see Stacey getting her books out of her locker. So I go over and lean on the locker by her.

“Stacey, we need to talk. At lunch.” I say. Then I leave to go to my locker. If I don’t hurry I’m going to be late for Biology.

Biology. The hour from hell. I’m stuck with Pam Troy and Della Jones as my lab partners. They are the dumbest people in the whole damn world. And it doesn’t really help my grade. But them being dumb and sexy has really helped my sex life. Lets see, I did Pam when I was a Sophomore. And Della about 4 months ago.

I manage to make it to class on time. But only barely. When I get there Pam and Della are already there.

“Hey, sexy, me and Della have been talking. And we want to bed you again. Is that at all possible?” Pam asks me as I walk to the lab station.

“I don’t know, I’m with Stacey.” I say.

“Come on, we know that you are very versatile. And if she wants, she can join us.” Pam says. Did I mention that Pam isn’t exactly shy about sex. Even when it comes to doing it with girls. It’s kind of a turn on. But not now.

“Come on, Pam, lay off.” I say getting my stuff out as the teacher walks in with another student. A student that looks a lot like Liz Parker. It is.

I sit up in my chair as Liz walked in. I watched as she stood in the front of the class talking to the teacher. Soon they were done. So I got out a sheet of paper. I was expecting homework like always.

“Mr. Evans. Would you please come to the front of the room.” Mrs. Barker, our teacher, said after Liz had gone to an empty lab station.

Crap. What did I do? I gathered my things and went to the front of the room. When I got there I set my books on Mrs. Barker’s desk.

Mr. Evans, I know you haven’t been doing very good in class. And I know that it’s because of your adolescent lab partners. So I am going to assign you a new partner.” Mrs. Barker says to me.

I can feel all eyes in the class on me. But I keep my cool as I wait for her to tell me who my new lab partner is.

Mr. Evans, your new lab partner is Miss Parker. Now I want you to be nice to her since she is new.” Mrs. Baker says. I can tell it means the conversation is over. So I gather up my things and walk over to Liz’s lab station.

I set my books down on the table and turn to face Liz. I’m going to say something but Liz cuts me short.

“Listen here Max Evans! Just because we are lab partners, it does not mean, I repeat, does not mean we are friends. You understand?” She whispered sharply at me.

I would say something sharp, but then again I trying to win her over, not push her away. So I hold my tongue and just nod my head.

“Good. Now don’t get me a bad grade and we might just get along.” She says to me and then turns to copy down the notes that Mrs. Barker is writing on the board.

I like her. She’s got something in her that I find so very annoying. And yet also very attractive. I could tell it would be fun in this class. Biology was shaping up to being one of my favorite subjects.

TBC....

Part 6

After Biology I had to go to two other classes before lunch. But it eventually came and after talking with Stacey I made my way over to our usual table. Michael, Kyle, Alex, Isabel, and Tess were already there.

“Where’s Ria?” I asked sitting down by Alex, leaving an empty space by Michael so Maria could sit by him when she showed up.

“I don’t know. Maybe Mr. Wyatt kept her late.” Alex said with his mouth full of food.

I just nodded. I was quickly loosing interest. So I turned my attention to more important matters.

“Hey, Izzy, are you going to eat that?” I asked pointing at her sandwich that she had yet to touch.

“No. You can have it.” She said picking it up and handing it over to me. I took it and placed it alongside my own sandwich, which I picked up and began to eat.

“Hey!” I heard Maria behind me and I felt Alex jump beside me, dropping his half eaten sandwich in the process. He acts like such a girl sometimes.

I slowly turned around and came face to face with none other than Liz Parker.

“Hey, guys, I would like to introduce you all to Liz Parker.” Maria said, I could tell she was happy with the reaction that she had gotten.

When Liz saw me her face went from friendly to deadly. If she had been a bit bigger I would have been scared. But she was small. Not bad small, good small. What was I thinking, I’m not supposed to be thinking things like that. I can’t get too attached to Liz. No matter how cute she looks.

I smiled and tried to be friendly. But the look on her face would have scared a herd of elephants.

“I’ve already met her, Maria.” I say then I start to get up off of my seat.

“Don’t bother getting up. I’m just leaving. It was nice meeting all of you. I‘ll see you at work tonight, Maria.” Liz said leaving. I sighed and sat back down. Maria sat next to Michael and me.

“I like her.” Michael said. I glared at him and he shut up.

“What did you and Stacey do earlier?” Maria asked after a ten-minute silence.

“We broke up.” Is all I said. And everyone just nodded. I had to do it though. If Liz knew that I had a girlfriend then I wouldn’t be able to go through with the plan.

~

It seemed to me that the rest of the day was faster than usual. I guess it was because there was only three more classes after lunch. So now I’m stuck at home with no parents and my sister.

And with no parents it meant that my mom wasn’t here to experiment on us with her dinner ideas. But that also meant that we had practically nothing to eat for dinner.

I got up off of the couch and turned off the television. I had been watching Sponge Bob Square Pants. I need food and I knew just where to get it.

“Isabel! I’m going to the Crashdown for a burger! You wanna come?” I yelled up the stairs as I walked to the front door where my keys were.

“No! I just planned on ordering a pizza and then doing my work.” She yelled back from upstairs.

Yeah right. Like she would do her homework. She’d probably be watching television when I got home.

“Fine! Bye!” I yelled walking out the door and then over to my jeep. It was the pride of my life. I don’t know what I would do if something happened to it. I’d be devastated.

So I got in my jeep and drove to the Crashdown. It wasn’t a long drive. About three minutes away. When I got there, there weren’t many people there. And there was two waitresses working the shift. It was Maria and Liz.

~

I sat in a booth in the back of the restaurant in the corner. I knew that it wasn’t in Maria’s section so I figured that it was in Liz’s.

And of course I was right. But hey that’s nothing new for me.

“Hi Max, can I interest you in today’s special? It’s a heaping bowl of respect. And then of course you get your choice of your just desserts.” Liz says in a voice that indicates that she would rather be somewhere else.

Depends. Can I get a salad with it?” I ask. I’ve almost had enough of this. I mean how much can a person hold against you?

“Wow, Max, you’re witty. Who knew?” She says sarcastically. That sounded promising.

“Apparently everyone but you.” I say. Which is true. Liz doesn’t really know me. But then again I don’t really know her.

“That’s right. Now what can I get you?” She asks. This time she’s really asking me.

“A Galaxy Sub, Saturn Rings, and a cherry coke.” I say. I know what I want right off the bat because I get the same thing. I’m not exactly dangerous when it comes to food. It just doesn’t make sense.

“I’ll be right back with your food.” Liz says and then walks away.

Then it hits me. I like Liz Parker. Even though she gets on my nerves and she’s annoying. I like hanging around with her.

Part 7

The next day we had school. So I had to wake up at 7:00 to get ready. I did the usual: bathroom, shower, teeth, and dress routine. I never do anything different, there just doesn’t seem to be a need to change.

After doing that, I went downstairs and ate a bowl of cereal. Then I made my way to the front door.

“Hey, Iz, do you need a ride to school?” I yelled up the stairs.

“I always need a ride to school. Plus Alex has a dentist appointment today, so he wont be in school until after ten.” Isabel said walking down the stairs with all her school stuff.

“Well I suggest you hurry.” I say walking out of the door. I know by now that when I do this Isabel has to run to the kitchen and find something quick to eat.

And today is no different. Just as I am starting my jeep she comes running out of the front door and is soon in the passenger seat, pop tart in hand. This is very funny to me, since she is on a diet.

I laugh at her as she takes a small bite. This makes her turn to glare at me.

“What?” She says as I continue to chuckle. I don’t answer her until we have been driving for a while.

“I thought you were supposed to be on a diet.” I say not taking my eyes off of the road.

“I’m just umm...letting loose right now.” Isabel says, which is clearly a lie. I can tell it is.

“Ok.” I say, letting my voice show that I don’t believe a word that she just said.

“Just shut up and drive.” Isabel said taking a large bite out of her pop tart like she was trying to prove a point.

I shut up. I figured if I kept on going I would end up starting a fight. And I didn’t was to get in a fight with Isabel, at least not right now.

It was another five minutes until we got to school. Five minutes of me having to listen to Isabel sing along with some chick music on the radio. I barely made it without yelling at her to turn it off.

I quickly turned off the jeep as soon as we got parked in the parking lot. And as soon as I did that the music was gone.

I saw Michael and Maria walking towards to school building, so I jumped out of the jeep and ran over to them.

“Hey guys!” I yelled coming up from behind them. I laughed when Michael jumped instead of Maria.

“Hey, man, don’t do that!” Michael said turning around and facing me. Maria just kept on walking.

“Maria, wait up!” Me and Michael both yelled at the same time. That got us some looks from the crowd, but we ignored it, it was normal for us. So we ran up to Maria. Michael on one side, me on the other.

“Hey, ‘Ria, what’s wrong?” I asked. Maria was being way too quiet and this couldn’t be good at all.

“I’ll tell you in Math, Max. I talked to Michael about it last night.” Maria said. I guess I would really have to wait then.

“Ok. I’ll wait until Math.” I say. I didn’t want to push her.

And as soon as we got in the building the bell rang. I hurried to get my stuff so I could figure out what Maria wanted to tell me.

~

As soon as we had all gotten to class we had all had to take a test. So I didn’t get to talk to Maria. But as soon as I was done with my test I got a note from Maria.

I sat down at my desk and opened the note so I could read it.

Max,

Last night I got to know Liz. I mean how could I not. I mean we work together. Although, I had to give some pointers on some of the people. But anyways, I’m getting off the subject. I do that a lot. Ok, I need to concentrate and tell you what I need to tell you. I got to know Liz and I don’t think that you should try to get with her. I mean she seems to good for you. I mean she’s really cool and she doesn’t deserve to get played. I guess you could be friends with her. Just don’t hurt her. She’s a good person and she doesn’t deserve it.

Maria

I sighed and refolded the note. I was going to listen to Maria. I would have to be ‘just friends’ with Liz. Unless I tried to get her and didn’t tell Maria.

Part 8a

I was going to write Maria a note in response to the one that she had written me. But the bell was about to ring, so I didn’t do it.

I sat at my desk contemplating what I was going to do. Soon enough the bell rang. And just as Maria breezed by me, in her way too quick pace, she dropped another note on my desk. So I picked it up, along with all my other stuff, and went to my locker. I would read the note in Biology.

Biology. That class held a whole new meaning to it. It was the class I had with Liz. So I hurried and got my things and went to class.

When I got to class I went to me and Liz’s lab station. She wasn’t there yet, so I set my books and the table and started to get the supplies that we needed for the lab assignment that the teacher was writing on the board.

As soon as I had gotten our materials, I went back to the lab station. Liz was still not there. So I sat down on a stool and waited for her. I decided that I might as well read Maria’s not while I was waiting.

I opened it and read the short note that she had written on the paper for me.

Max,

Oh yeah, Max, I forgot to tell you something. I told Liz about your plan. Sorry. I had to do it, it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Maria

I sighed and refolded the note. And when I stood up to put it in my pocket I saw Liz standing there with her hands on her hips. She looked very pissed off. But I knew she was pissed off at me.

Sorry it is so short. I had a heck of a lot of stuff to do at school today. But there should be a longer one next time.
