Title: Desires of Darkness
Catagory: Max & Liz (AU)
Rating: ADULT
Sypnosis: Elizabeth Parker is the slayer working for the secret society known as the council in the 16th Century. She is the light, the good side, combating the forces of darkness - namely vampyres. But what happens when she meets the prince of darkness himself - Maxwell Evans? Light and darkness collide, but who are really on the side of good and who are on the side of evil?
Disclaimer: I do not own Roswell, or any of the characters, those belong to Jason Katims, Melinda Metz, UPN etc. I also do not own anything relating to buffy, characters etc. All I own is this story, which stems from my imagination.
Authors note: I was watching the episode of buffy with Dracula in it, and I just got this idea in my head....so, here I am again starting yet another story!
Please give me some feedback on my progress! I need to know whether its worth continuing.

Prologue

Since the dawn of time, light has coincided with darkness, as have good with evil.

Humans have evolved to walk the earth, but they are not alone. Dark supernatural forces have also evolved to join the human race.

But they exist in darkness.

People are somewhat aware of them. They wonder about them. Do they truely exist or are they fairy tales used to scare little children and even adults?

Those who have encountered them, and who were lucky....or rather, unlucky enough to survive, were simply brushed off as crazy loons, when they tried to tell the towns people about them.

Society was such a capricious thing. Even your own family can turn their backs on you. Fearing for their own reputation to be spoiled. Fearing to be judged by others.

Unknown to the world, there is a secret society that worked together around the world to battle these forces of darkness - namely Vampyres

A secret society that called themselves 'The Council' and consisted of Watchers and Slayers.

The watchers were like the 'brains' of the operation doing research on the dark forces at hand, and guiding the slayers to destroying them.

The slayers were all girls. Identified by a birthmark on their inner ankle. They were sort out with the help of a mystical old woman called the Seer.

Slayers were trained in all kinds of combat skills, and studied about the supernatural. If one slayer died, another would be called to fill their place, and the town they were in charge of protecting.

No one slayer worked together. They were a person of solitude. The only person a slayer would work with and report back to, was their own assigned watcher. Sure they had family and friends, but they all worked in secret.

It was simple, the council were on the side of the light, while vampyres were on the side of darkness. It was how it had always been.

But what happens when the light and darkness collide together?

Part 1

Transylvania, Romania,
Year 1506

The moonlight casted shadows across the sleepy town of Tirgu Mures. It was nearly midnight, and most people were in their houses tucked away and sleeping in their warm safe beds. Leaving the bitter cold and horrors which threaten their sanity outside.

A young girl walked briskly down the cobble stoned streets. A cold breeze blew at her and she pulled her tattered coat closer to her body. It did little to keep her warm. She quickly wandered down a narrow street, making her way to an abandoned building where she had made it her home.

A coyote howled into the night making her stop in startled terror. After her fear subsided, she continued on her way. She was just about nearing the end of the street when a shadow stepped out in front of her, making her jump back and scream in surprise.

"I am sorry, I did not see you there. I did not mean to frighten you." the shadow said in a slow calm voice.

"It is quite all right. I'll be on my way now." the girl tried to walk past, but he grabbed her arm. Her eyes widened in fear. "Please sir, I must get home, it is late."

He did not let go. Instead he was silent for a moment before answering her.

"And what is a beautiful young lady like yourself doing out all alone at night?"

"I....that is none of your business. Please let me go." she struggled against his grasp.

"At least let me walk you home. Be sure you get home safely." he stepped closer to her.

"No really, its quite all right. It's not much further..." she still could not see who he was.

"Oh, but I insist..." and with that, he stepped into the glow of the moonlight, revealing himself.

She could see him clearly now.

He was tall, long wavy hair that fell down the sides of his face, but not quite reaching his shoulders. It was hard to see what colour it was, due to the darkness. He was wearing a dark long coat, black trouser pants, and a crisp white shirt underneath the coat.

One feature was unmistakable though - he was as pale as the moonlight.

His whole being oozed sensuality and calmness. A being always in control.

"Please let me go" the girl whimpered. She knew she was in danger, knew what he was....

"You will not allow me to escort you home?"

"No..." tears were welling up in her eyes.

"Then how about....dinner?" he drawled on the last word.

She gulped. She was doomed. She could feel it in her bones, and no one was going to save her....or even miss her if she was gone.

He leaned in close and back her up against a wall, entrapping her from escaping.

"Please..." tears were now flowing freely down her cheeks.

"Shhh..." he cooed. "It will only hurt for a minute"

He leant in close to her neck, inhaling in the smell of her fear...could feel her loneliness in the world.

"Shh...don't be frightened" he slowly traced the side of her neck with his tongue, feeling her pulse race.

"Mmm...so young...." he whispered into her ear. He stroked her wet cheeks gently. "What is your name?" he asked.

"S...Sophena" the girl managed to croak out.

"That's a beautiful name....Sophena."

He looked into her fearful eyes, then slowly lowered his head back to her neck, and lengthened his fangs. Slowly he sank his teeth into her tender neck, all the while hearing her beg for her life and crying. She tried to struggle, but it was useless as he had her held tightly pinned against the wall.

Her scream echoed into the dark night as he drank her life blood.

Inside the quiet houses, the sleeping people pulled their blankets over their heads to block out the high pitched scream that echoed through the night. Ignoring the horrors that lay beyond the comfort of their houses.

Sophena could feel her life slipping away from her. She was getting weaker by the moment. She could hear her heart beat loudly in her ears, and then......a voice? was that a voice? a girls voice..... 'maybe I will survive this after all' she thought weakly. The voice sounded so far away.

The vampyre looked up to face the new voice and growled at the interruption.

"Am I interrupting something?" the voice at the end of the narrow street asked.

He could not see who it was due to the mist that seemed to have appeared, swirling around her in the night. But he knew for definite that it was a girl. At least her voice gave her away - advantage for him...or so he thought.

"No, you are not interrupting. We are done." he let Sophena's body slip to the ground. He gingerly wiped the sides of his mouth.

"You do know that public display of affection is frowned upon?" she slowly walked down the street towards him.

He grinned. She will be his dessert to end the wonderful night he seemed to be having.

"What can I say?" he shrugged. "Guilty as charged."

She simply smiled up at him. She wasn't afraid of him.

He could see her clearly now. She looked about 18 years of age, had long dark wavy hair that cascaded down her back. Her hair was pulled back from the tides, and tied with a crimson red ribbon. Whispy tendrils of hair were left to frame her face from the sides. The red ribbon contrasted her hair, and her hair contrasted her olive coloured skin. Doesn't she know that red attracts vampyres? He eyes were innocent, yet they held a dangerous spark in them. The clothes she wore were different to what normal girls would wear. Instead of long flowing dresses, she wore black trouser pants like a man, a velvet deep red waistcoat with a white baggy sleeved shirt underneath it.

For someone to dress like that, she was no ordinary girl.

He could feel slight fear creeping through him. For some reason, it felt like de ja vu to him. Yet he had never met or seen this young petite girl before.

"What is your name?" he asked curiously.

"Elizabeth. Elizabeth Parker." she took a step back from him. "At your service." as quick as lightning, she drew out a sharp wooden stake and aimed it right at his heart. But he had seen her muscles tense up. Just as quickly himself, he blocked her attack. Her fast reflexes landed him a blow to the cheek, it stunned him for a moment; her strength was impeccable, unmistakable.....

"Slayer!" he hissed at her.

"One and only....well, in this country anyway." She shrugged her shoulders at him innocently before launching into a full on attack on him. Something not so innocent.

This girl, the current slayer, was different to the others. Her combat skills were flawless; her strength was mighty. She didn't fight strategically, her movements were completely natural to her. Completely different to the previous slayers he had encountered.

He tried his best to block her kicks and punches, but he was losing the battle. He just about managed to stun her momentarily with a blow to the jaw, long enough to make his escape.

"My master will hear about you....your slaying days will soon be up." and with that, he pulled up his coat to cover himself, and changed into a black bat that fluttered away sqawking into the night. (A/N: Yes, I know its cheesy. lol!)

Elizabeth stood silently watching the bat fly away into the night. She will deal with him another time. Se looked down at the pale girl lying on the floor. Elizabeth slowly bent down to feel the girl's pulse. She had been too late. The girl had suffered too much blood loss. Even though the young girl had died, Elizabeth could not be sure if she had been turned. It was a part of her training to never take chances.

Elizabeth hated the next part of her job. She had never wanted to become a slayer, but fate seemed to have picked her for it.

She lifted the girl gently and placed her over her shoulders. She carried her with ease. She walked for about 10 minutes before coming to a stop in a hidden field. There she placed the girl on a wooden platform.

Elizabeth stroked the girl's cheek gently. She was so young and innocent. She didn't deserve to die. But if she had been turned, then neither did other people.

Elizabeth lit a match and threw it on the alcohol drenched wood. It came to light straight away. She stepped back and watched with tear filled eyes as the flames licked and consumed the body that was once known as Sophena.

"Rest in peace." Elizabeth whispered in a quiet prayer for the girl.

After standing there for a while, Elizabeth walked away into the cold night.

Part 2

"Ah Elizabeth, you are back. How was your hunt?"

Elizabeth walked through the huge wooden doors to the watchers council headquarters, and sat down on the chair to face her watcher.

"I lost a young girl tonight. I was too late, she suffered too much blood loss. Though I did give the vampyre a good beating." a small smile passed briefly to her lips, but it quickly disappeared. "but he escaped."

"Elizabeth, you are suppose to kill them, not beat them up and then let them escape." he sighed. "Was she turned?"

" I was not sure. But I cremated her body anyway, just to be sure." sadness filled in her chocolate brown eyes. "Ralenio, I really hate this job. It is too much for a person as young as myself. There's just so much...death."

Ralenio put the book he was reading, down on the wooden counter, and sat down next to his young charge. He touched her hand in comfort.

"I know it is unfair on you. It is a tiring battle, but fate seems to have chosen you to be a part of it. Everything happens for a reason."

"All I've ever wanted was to have a normal life. A life that doesn't include battling vampyres, fighting for my life every night and watching people die..."

Elizabeth closed her eyes, took in a deep breath, then opened her eyes. How had life taken her to where she was now? she wondered.

She looked at Ralenio, who had gone back to his books - more research no doubt. He was a tall man, maybe in his early 40s. He had short brown hair, brown eyes, and slight wrinkles on his forehead due to his constant frowning and deep in thought facial expressions. He wore grey pants with a vest jumper over his white shirt and tie. Usually he'd just wear a grey tweed suit, but he'd gone for casual wear for the evening. What is it with him and grey? He also wore silver wire rimmed spectacles. Elizabeth hadn't really asked him about his past, she figured it wasn't really any of her business, plus he didn't seem to want to talk about it. But she did wonder about him though. Has he ever been married? has he any children? how did he become a watcher in the first place? All unanswered questions.

Elizabeth surveyed the room around her. It was a large room, neatly furnished and decorated. She noticed how most of the things in the room were made out of different kinds of wood. A large deep red-ishy brown mahogany table and chairs were placed in the middle of the room. Countless rows of wooden bookcases were put around the room. A wooden staircase with thick red carpet wound up to the different level floors. The first floor was the main library area. The stairs continued to wind up to the second floor, where it contained a living area.

It really was such a nice beautiful place to be in. even from the outside the buildings architecture was breath takingly beautiful to look at. It was amazing how the rest of the outside world had not noticed it before. But that was probably due to the magickal ward the seer had put around the building to cloak it. It gave people an uneasy feeling when they were near. It kept them away.

Elizabeth closed her eyes to rest them. Her mind wandered back to her haunted past.....

England, 1501

"Did you enjoy yourself tonight Elizabeth?"

"Yes mama, I did very much. It was a wonderful party!" beamed a young Elizabeth.

"I'll be sure to tell your aunt Mary-anna that. She will be pleased." laughed Elizabeth's father.

The 3 of them were walking home after the party. They refused to take the horse and carriage as they didn't live that far from Mary-anne's. Plus they thought that some exercise would do them some good.

Half way through their journey, 2 strangers stopped them. Turned out they were vampyres. But vampyres didn't exist right? they were mere fairy tales right?

Wrong.

"Elizabeth run!!" screamed her father.

Elizabeth didn't want to leave her parents, but her father and mother kept yelling at her to run and not turn back. Elizabeth began to run, then turned around and stood frozen in place as she watched her parents defend themselves from the creatures of the dark. Their strength was no match for them.

Elizabeth stood watching her parents die right in front of her eyes.

The 2 vampyres turned their focus to the young girl; their eyes gleaming with hunger. They advantages towards her.

Elizabeth was running now, she couldn't let them catch her or she'd be doomed with the same fate as her parents.

Oh no! she was falling now. She'd accidentally tripped on her long party dress. Now she was doomed for sure! She closed her eyes tightly waiting for her impending fate. Ready for the pain....

It never came.

She looked up to see a girl older than her a few years standing over her. She held a sharp stick in her hand and was glaring at the vampyres.

The girl looked at Elizabeth.

"Are you hurt? she asked.

"N...no...but my parents..." tears coursed down her cheeks.

The next thing Elizabeth knew, the girl who had saved her, was having a full on fight with the vampyres. She seemed mightily strong. She could hurt them when her parents couldn't. She looked to be a simple girl, yet she demonstrated power.

Elizabeth sat up and watched them fight. Slowly she crawled to her parents side. They were lying on the ground, their eyes frozen in fear....forever to remain that way.

"Mama? father?" Elizabeth shook them gently. They did not move or reply. Elizabeth lay her head on the bodies of her parents and sobbed her eyes out. The world fading out away from her.

A hand gently touched her shoulder. Elizabeth jumped startled.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Elizabeth?" Ralenio asked again. His hand shaking her shoulder slightly.

"what....." Elizabeth woke, confused of her current surroundings. Then it slowly came to her. She had been dreaming, and she was back in the present now.

"Elizabeth are you all right? you were crying in your sleep."

Elizabeth wiped her wet face and eyes.

"Yes...I'm fine. I was just...dreaming."

"You should go home, get some proper rest." Ralenio went to fetch his long coat for her. It was a cold night after all.

"Thank you, Ralenio" Elizabeth put on his coat then gave him a long hug. "Thank you, for everything. Don't stay up too late. You need rest too." she pulled from his embrace and smiled at him.

"I won't my dear." he returned her warm smile.

"Oh! before I forget, the vampyre I encountered earlier said that he would tell his master about me, and that my slaying days will soon be up."

"His master?" Ralenio asked puzzled.

"Yes. I guess you'd better start researching again."

"Well, we don't have a lot to go on, but I will do my best."

Elizabeth walked down the cold streets back to her own house. Once home, she went straight to her bedroom.

Elizabeth did not go to sleep. She didn't like going to sleep. Sleeping meant not being aware of things around you. Sleeping meant being away from the world.....being alone....being in a place she did not want to go back to to relive.

Elizabeth took a book with her to her bed and began to read.

Soon, she had fallen asleep. This time, no-one would be there to wake her up.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

England, 1501

Young Elizabeth crawled up to her parents bodies. She lay her head on their bodies; mourning their deaths. Her mind blocked out the fight that was taking place behind her. She was alone now. Her closes family was now dead.

A hand gently touched her shoulder. Elizabeth looked up startled.

The girl who had saved her looked at her with sympathy.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be here sooner."

For some reason, Elizabeth felt strange comfort from this girl. Before she knew it, she flung herself at the girl, hugging her tightly and crying he eyes out.

"Shh..it's alright...it will be alright...." she stroked the back of Elizabeth's hair trying to comfort her. "What is your name little girl?"

"E..Elizabeth..P..Parker..." she said through sobs.

"Hello Elizabeth. My name's Christina."

Elizabeth shifted so she sat more comfortable in Christina's embrace. Christina noticed a little mark on the young girl's inner ankle.

"Elizabeth, how did you get that mark?" she pointed to the mark.

"Um.." Elizabeth sniffed. "It's a birth mark."

"The seer was right. You were in England..." Christina murmured to herself quietly.

"Pardon?" Elizabeth asked confused.

Christina simply smiled. "Nothing. Elizabeth, listen to me, you are a very special girl. I'd like you to meet some friends of mine. We will look after you. Would you like that?"

Feeling attachment to Christina already, Elizabeth nodded her head.

"What about my parents?" she looked down sadly.

"We will give them a proper burial."

Christina took Elizabeth's small hand, and together they walked into the night making their way to the watcher's council.

Elizabeth was dressed in a black dress. She stood with a dozen other people who were also dressed in black. Who were these people? she wondered. Elizabeth looked into the ground in front of her. They were burying someone.....

"Mama....father....." tears rolled down her cheeks.

She looked to the fresh grave next to her parents one.

"No...Christina...."

All alone again.

Alone in the world.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Elizabeth bolted upright in her bed. Her cheeks were wet from her tears, her body drenched in sweat. She sat there hugging her knees, and began to slowly rock backwards and forwards.

Always alone.

Part 3

Up on a tall mountain cliff top stood a large dark looming castle; a castle that was inhibited by darkness. Ghostly fog swirled around it at night. By day, it looked to be an old gothic castle.

A mysterious figure cloaked in black stood by the window gazing out into the dark blue horizon.

Sunrise would be coming soon.

A door creaked open and a figure stepped him.

"My lord." he bowed his head in respect.

Maxwell Evans heard him, but he did not turn around. Instead he continued to gaze out the window.

"Cutting it a bit close aren't we Michael?" he spoke in a neutral tone.

"My lord, we have a problem."

He finally turned around the face Michael.

Michael continued. "I encountered a new slayer tonight. She is different to the other slayers. She is stronger, faster. Her movements are fluent to her. I nearly did not make it."

"What is her name? and what does she look like?" Max went over to the mantle to light another candle.

"Her name was said to be Elizabeth. Elizabeth Parker. She is different. Unique. She dresses like a man, yet she retains the look of femininity in her. She is indeed a beautiful sight for the eyes to look at. She is young, about eighteen, though I cannot be sure."

Michael watched the amusement cross his masters face.

"Elizabeth Parker....It is an unusual name. British. If she is as unique as you make her out to be, I would very much like to meet with her." a smile passed his lips. "Find out as much as you can about her; where she lives, where she will be tonight...."

Michael thought his master had gone insane. Why on earth would he want to come face to face with a slayer?

Max sensed Michael's doubts.

"Do not question me Michael." Max said in a cold threatening tone.

Michael took the hint.

"Forgive me my lord. I did not mean to question your actions." he bowed his head lower.

His master was silent for a moment, and he feared the worst.

"Leave. It is nearly sunrise. You should go get some rest after your.....eventful night."

Michael obeyed immediately and backed out the door. Before he closed it, he saw his master close the thick red velvet curtains, just as the first rays of sunlight touched the earth.

Part 4

Elizabeth woke up fairly late in the morning. No surprising as she only fell asleep when she exhausted herself out from crying the night before.

A knocking came to her door, and she went to open it rubbing her sleepy eyes.

"Oh my goodness! Elizabeth were you still asleep?" enquired Elizabeth's best friend Maria.

Maria had been a friend of Christina's. Elizabeth was introduced to her a few years back. The three of them were close friends, but Maria never knew of the secret that both her friends kept from her. After Christina's death, Elizabeth and Maria relied on each other for emotional support, and they were both like family now.

"Hmm...what time is it?" Elizabeth yawned and stretched.

"It's nearly noon." Maria walked into her friends cosy house and sat down on the plush chair.
"Why are you so tired? what did you do last night? go out hunting like an owl?" she joked.

Elizabeth could only smile at her dear friend. If only she knew.

"No. I had nightmares last night. I wasn't able to go back to sleep."

Elizabeth walked back into her bedroom to get changed. She came out 2 minutes later wearing a short sleeved long white simple dress, which elegantly flowed from her waist downwards towards her ankles. She liked it because unlike all the other dresses that girls wore, which puffed out too much, this one was more slimming to her waist.

Maria looked at Liz. Amazement in her eyes.

"Wow! how is it that you can always look so wonderful without even trying?"

"Ria, I'm not that wonderful looking. In fact, I would be deemed too simple when compared to other girls." she gave her friend a modest smile.

"Lizzie Lizzie Lizzie! you my friend are just too modest. So modest that you are practically blind to your own true being."

Elizabeth sighed at her friend. Society was always like this, Maria included.

"Ria, I would rather people like me for who I am as a person rather than what I look like."

Is this why she was always trying to be unique in her looks, clothes and attitude? to be different from others in society? Maria wondered.

Deciding to change the subject, Maria continued.

"Lizzie, I'm throwing a party this evening, please say you will come!"

"Didn't you just have a party the day before yesterday?"

"Yes I did, but this is for you!"

"Me?!" Elizabeth asked startled.

"Yes you. It is about time we found you a potential partner. You have been alone for far too long."

"Maria, you know how I hate parties and gatherings. Why do you do this to me?" Elizabeth sat down and sighed. Maria was a dear friend, but sometimes, she can be quite meddlesome.

Maria gave Elizabeth a hurt look.

"Well, I thought it would be good for you. Please Lizzie, just one night. There will be both men and women there, so you won't feel as awkward. And you don't have to talk to them if you don't want to. Please Lizzie! please!"

Elizabeth looked at Maria's eager look.

"Oh all right! Does this mean I need to buy yet another new dress to wear?"

"Yes! but don't you worry, that's what I'm here for!"

Maria beamed with happiness and ushered her friend out the door.

"Elizabeth my dear friend, tonight you are going to be the belle of the ball."

"Um...Ria, just exactly how many people are going to be there?"

"I don't know. Lots I hope! I made an advertisement in the Richmond Weekly Newspaper saying that everyone was welcome. Don't worry Lizzie, I already know half the people who normally attend the parties I throw, and it can't hurt to make more new acquaintances."

Both girls stopped in front of a boutique to admire some dresses on display then went in.

Unbeknownst to them, in an alley way hid a dying old beggar man. Maybe with this new information, he would get to live eternally after all. After a fit of agonizing coughs he went on his way. He didn't have very much time left.

Part 5

That evening at Maria's party.

"Wow! Ria, there's a lot of people here tonight." Elizabeth said looking at all the people around her. They were dancing, chatting, smiling, drinking wine, all in all, they were having a good time.

"Come on! there is someone I would like you to meet."

Maria dragged Elizabeth towards the middle of the enormous ballroom.

"Sven! glad you could make it tonight. I would like you to meet a good friend of mine." Maria indicated to Elizabeth. "This is Elizabeth." She gave her friend a bright smile. "Elizabeth, this..."

"Sven." Elizabeth said cutting her off. She hated when Maria played matchmaker.

Sven took Elizabeth's hand and kissed the top politely.

"Please to meet you Elizabeth. I am Sven Salvador"

Maria and Sven exchanged some pleasantries, while Elizabeth stood there with a fake smile plastered across her face. She noticed how Sven kept sneaking glances at her while her was talking to Maria. After a while Elizabeth excused herself.

Elizabeth was making her way across the large room to the refreshment area, when she stopped and looked around. She felt someone was watching her, but it was hard to see with so many people around, and now that she was actually looking at the people, she noticed how half of the males in the room were either looking or taking glances at her. She ignored them and continued on her way.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Max stood by the tall plant with Michael. They were both dressed in black and white formal wear. Just like any normal upper class gentleman.

"It's a good thing the invitation said anyone could attend." Michael said to Max.

Max was gazing at the girl Michael had pointed out earlier on. The girl named Elizabeth. The slayer. Max was mesmerised. He couldn't take his eyes off her.

He watched her excuse herself from the people she was talking to, and making her way across the room. Most of the males like him, were also watching her. This made it easier for him to blend in.

Michael was right; she was indeed a beautiful sight for the eyes to gaze upon.

Elizabeth wore a long flowing red silk dress. The top part was sleeveless, slightly off the shoulder, and went down into a wide V shape at the front, and was decorated in subtle white elegant patterns.

Her hair was left down and was pulled back at the sides and tied at the back with a red ribbon. Two whispy strands fell down the sides of her face delicately.

Max just had to go and meet her. It wasn't enough that he simply stood there watching her. He drank the rest of his red wine and gave the empty glass to Michael. Slowly he made his way across the room to meet her.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Elizabeth poured herself a glass of fruit punch, then turned around to look at the crowd while sipping her drink. That feeling of being watched was still tingling the back of her neck.

"Excuse me, miss?"

Elizabeth turned to look at the person who had spoken to her. She nearly dropped her drink.

Standing in front of her was the most gorgeous man she had ever seen. The first thing she noticed was his hypnotizing amber eyes, which seem to twinkle at her. His smiling was mesmerising to her. He looked to be in his early twenties, but had a young boyish look to him. He had short rich dark brown hair. She noticed how his ears stuck out a little, but instead of finding it weird, she thought it was kinda cute.

The only weird thing coming off him was the fact the he looked slightly pale, but not as pale as the vampyres she had encountered in her life. But there was an uneasy feeling in her stomach. Like he was a danger to her. He can't possible be a vampyre could he? the only danger for her was probably from those deep penetrating eyes of his.....there was just something about them...about him....that she couldn't place a finger on. She pushed the feelings aside.

Realizing that she had been silently staring at him for a good minute or two, she cleared her throat and gave him a genuine smile.

"Yes?"

"I was wondering if I could have the honour of dancing with a beautiful lady such as yourself?"

Being partly polite, and partly because she had wanted to dance with him, she agreed. He took her hand and lead her to the center of the room.

As they slowly danced to the instrumental music, the world around them seemed to fade away. It was just the two of them and the music swirling around them.

They gazed at each other as they danced, making slight conversation with each other. It had felt so right to the both of them. Like being in each others arms was the most natural thing in the world. Like they belonged together.

"What is your name, my lady?" Max asked even though he already knew it.

"Elizabeth. Elizabeth Parker."

"Elizabeth. That is a British name, am I correct?" he wanted to find out more about her.

"Yes. I was originally from England, but then I moved here a few years ago." she didn't want to tell him too much about her personal life, or her past for that matter, after all, he was a stranger to her, so she turned the question on him.

"And what is your name, kind sir?" she asked gazing up at him. She just couldn't seem to look away from him.

"Max." he simply said.

"Just Max?" Elizabeth asked amused.

"Just Max." he replied before waltzing her quickly around the room. Elizabeth's giggled were like music to his ears.

A man of mystery Elizabeth thought. I wonder what other secret he harbours.

"Well, if you are just Max, then you may simply call me Liz. Why only have one of us being so formal?" she said laughing.

Just then, a shiver ran through her, and she realized that his cold hands were turning her warm ones cold.

"Are you cold?" she asked innocently.

Max was startled at first by her question. As a vampyre, he didn't give out any heat; but being in her presence had made him forget that.

"I had been outside before I came to dance with you. It is a cold night out." he only half lied. It was indeed cold outside. But he had not been outside. He had been inside, hiding, watching her every move.

Elizabeth seemed to accept his question, and continued to dance with him.

When the music came to an end, they both stopped dancing. It was only then they realized that the other guests had made a large circle around them, and watched them dance. Now they applauded, before going back to their own dances and conversations.

Elizabeth saw Maria heading her way and gave her a friendly wave.

While Elizabeth's back was turned, Michael walked up to Max and whispered something in his ear, then walked off quickly disappearing into the crowd before Elizabeth had a chance to face them.

When Maria joined them, Elizabeth introduced them.

"You throw a wonderful party, my lady." Max said while kissing the top of Maria's hand.

Maria blushed.

"Thank you." she said shyly.

"I am sorry, but I must be going now. I seem to have tired myself out from such a wonderful night." Max said gazing at Liz.

"I am having another party in about 2 weeks. I hope you will be able to make it to that one. I'm sure my good friend Elizabeth here would like to attend it as well."

Maria had finally found someone that Liz had liked. And she just loved to play matchmaker. There was no way she was going to let these two separate.

"I would love to attend. Goodnight, my lady." Max kissed Liz's hand, his lips seemed to linger there longer than a normal kiss would. He did the same with Maria, but it was a brisk friendly kiss.

Max turned and walked towards the open archway which lead to the outside. A smile was on his lips. Elizabeth was indeed unique. He had a strong desire to get to know her more. He just had to make sure she didn't know who....or what he was.

Part 6

"See, didn't I tell you throwing this party was going to be good for you? you seem to have found someone you liked." Maria said beaming.

"So I guess you've never met him before?" Liz asked her friend.

"No, I've never seen him attend any of my other parties before. But I bet he will from now on!" She said giving Liz a wink.

Liz threw a pillow at her friend playfully and laughed.

They were in Maria's room talking about the party from the previous night, and the subject of the enigmatic Max.

"He seems to be quite taken with you." Maria mused. "So, do you like him?" she asked Liz eagerly.

"Well, I don't really know him. He's very mysterious. He seems to hide a lot of secrets."

"Yes, yes, but first impressions, what did you think of him?" Maria was very eager to know.

"First impressions? well, when I first saw him......" Liz gave Maria a mysterious grin.

Maria leant forward and looked at her friend trying to be patient in gaining the answer.

"....I nearly died from his good looks....and his eyes...wow! I could drown in them. And that smile....."

Maria began began to shriek and squeal loudly with delight.

"Finally! Elizabeth Parker has found someone she likes!"

"Yes, well, it's too bad you don't know him, otherwise, you could've given me some background information about him."

"Well, I'm sure you can find out all you need to know about him yourself." Maria gave Liz another wink. "Hmm...so many parties to plan, and so little time."

Liz laughed at her friend. She was always so upbeat and enthusiastic.

Part 7

Watchers Council HQ

"Ralenio, have you found anything on who this master vampyre is yet?"

"No, not yet am afraid. Like I said, we don't really have much information to go on. Can you remember anything else that might help us?"

"No, nothing else unfortunately." Liz sighed and plopped down on the plush sofa.

"So how was Maria's party?" Ralenio asked as he made himself and Liz a cup of tea.

"It went better than I expected. Um...I am sorry I took the night off." Liz looked guilty for abandoning her duties for one night. She had checked in with Ralenio, letting him know about the party before she went. But still....the responsibility part of her ate at her conscience.

"It's quite all right. You deserve some normalcy in your life."

Ralenio walked over and set the two steaming cups of tea on the coffee table.

Liz liked Ralenio. He gave her the freedom that wasn't really permitted by the council. To Liz, Ralenio was more of a father and friend figure rather than her watcher.

"Thank you." Liz picked up her cup and took a sip before setting it back down on the table.

"So why was this party better than you expected?" Ralenio sat opposite Liz on the other sofa.

"Well, Maria loves to play matchmaker. She tried to set me up with someone named Sven Salvador." Liz made a distasteful facial expression, then continued. "But instead, I got asked to dance by this charming and mysterious gentleman named Max."

"Max who?"

"I don't know. He wouldn't tell me. That's why I said he was mysterious before." Liz gave Ralenio a smile.

"How odd of him." Ralenio contemplated, puzzled.

"Maria's throwing yet another party and invited him to attend. he said he would be there. It seems as though Maria is throwing these parties for my benefit."

Ralenio gave Liz a serious look.

"Elizabeth, I know I allow you some freedom from your duties, but please be careful. You cannot let anyone know about your secret as a slayer."

"Do not worry, no one will know."

Max's Castle

"So what do you make of her?"

"You were right. She is different to all the previous slayers." Max swirled his red wine in the glass cup and took a sip.

Max and Michael were sitting in front of a roaring fire place in the spacious living-room.

"So when are you going to kill her?" Michael asked.

Max was silent for a moment before answering.

"I am not."

"But she is the enemy" Michael reminded him.

"That may be, but her feelings go deeper than simple slayerhood. Being a slayer is her duty, her job. But she yearns for something more. I can feel it off her."

"What does she yearn for?" Michael asked curious.

Max took another sip of his wine and gazed into the fire.

"She yearns for happiness. For companionship. She feels alone in the world."

Max continued to gaze sadly into the fire.

"You got all that from her vibes?"

Max looked at Michael and gave him a small smile.

"When I looked into her eyes, I could see into her very soul."

"You know she will kill you if she finds out who you are." Michael warned.

"I know.....and she will.....sooner or later."

"So why not just kill her?" Michael asked again.

"Because I don't want to." Max said simply.

Michael was silent for a moment deep in thought before answering again.

"You have plans for her don't you?"

Max didn't answer his question. Instead he gave him a mysterious smile, then spoke in the same calm voice he had been using all night.

"Goodnight Michael."

As curious as he was, Michael dared not ask anymore. He and Max might be friends, but Max was still the one who holds power.

Michael bid goodnight to mMax and left the room.

Max stayed in his big comfy chair and looked mesmerised at the red liquid in his glass. The deep red reminded him of her. The red dress she wore....she must really like red, he thought with amusement. Well so did he.

Max did have plans for her, but they were plans that would remain in secret with him. The truth was, during their short meeting, he already become infatuated with her.

Max closed his eyes and let his mind begin to drift.

Part 8

After visiting Ralenio, Liz had gone out patrolling. She patrolled the streets, visited the cemetery, dusted a few vamps, then made one last sweep on the streets again before going home to retire for the night.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz stood before her parents grave, tears once more coursing down her soft cheeks.

"May I have this dance?"

Liz turned around to face the voice that had spoken behind her.

"Of course." She smiled up at him, he troubles forgotten as she gazed into his amber eyes.

They were now in the large ballroom where they had first met. They wore exactly the same clothing as last time, everything was the same, except this time, there was no one else around. It was just the two of them. Music echoed magically around them, yet no orchestra was to be seen.

As they danced in each others arms, a spotlight shone above them, and followed wherever they went. Their surrounding area was slightly dimmer where the light did not reach.

They danced and twirled around the room. Liz had never felt this happy in her life for a long time.

They laughed and smiled at each other, never exchanging a single word.

Soon the music faded to an end, and they stopped dancing. The spotlight still illuminating above them, but now their surrounding area had faded to black.

Liz gazed up at his handsome face.

"Who are you?" she asked breaking the silence.

"You know who I am." he replied.

"You said your name was Max, but who are you really?

He continued to gaze down at her, smiled, them slowly leaned forward.

"You shall find our soon enough." he whispered in her ear.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz's eyes flew open.

She was lying in her warm comfy bed.

It had all been a dream. But somehow, it unnerved her. There was something about that dream that made it different from all her other dreams.

And what exactly did Max mean that she would 'soon find out?'

Liz rubbed her eyes, then went back to sleep.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Back at the castle, Max opened his eyes and smiled to himself.

Part 9

For the next few days, Liz looked forward to bedtime. It was where she would meet the mysterious stranger known only as 'Max.'

Each time she met him, they would be in a different environment and situation. Horseback rides, beach and garden walks, it seemed endless of the places they went.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz gazed up into the vast heavens above her.

"Isn't it beautiful?" she said in awe.

"Yes, it is. But there are more things in this world that are even more enchanting."

"What could be more enchanting than the universe itself?" Liz looked at Max, and saw that he was looking directly at her with those deep amber eyes.

Max reached out and gently tucked a strand of Liz's hair behind her ear that had blown astray from the gentle wind.

They were both lying on a blanket on a field having a picnic under the stars.

Max's hand rested on her left cheek, then gently caressed it, feeling the softness of her skin under his touch.

Liz closed her eyes and let her senses feel Max's gently touch on her face.

When Liz opened her eyes again, she saw Max's face about two inches away from hers, and he was slowly leaning in. His gaze flicked from her eyes to her mouth and back again.

Liz looked into his eyes that seem to hypnotise her; she was drowning. She wanted to kiss him so badly, to feel his lips on hers.....but something at the back of her mind nagged her, something seemed off about him, yet he seemed so normal.

They were a breath away from a kiss.

"Who are you?" Liz suddenly asked.

"W..what?" Max rasped out breathlessly.

"What's your full name? you know mine, I would like to know yours."

Max simply smiled and looked around the scenery around them which seemed to change and shift.

"Lets us play a game. So far, you know my name is only one half of something. Look around and see what the second part might be. The clue is around us."

Liz surveyed the environment around them. They were in a grassy field that contained trees, bushy overgrowth, a shimmering lake, a small cottage in the distance and.....hey, why is there a well in the middle of nowhere? why would you need a well if there was a lake nearby?

Liz's eyes Lit up.

"It's Maxwell, is it not?" she said happily.

Max leaned in close to her face again.

"My lady is not only beautiful, but also wise."

His mouth gently caressed her lips in a sweet feather light kiss. His kiss started to deepen and....

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz's eyes flew open and she gasped for air. Slowly she sat up on her bed. It had only been another dream, yet it had felt so real....she could still feel his gentle lips on hers, the caress of his hands.....

Was she truly falling for him? even though it was only in dreams she saw him?

Liz shook her head to clear it.

"I must be thinking about him far too much to keep having dreams about him." she muttered to herself, then paused......

"Maxwell." the name rolled off her tongue easily.

Even though it had only been a dream, Liz wondered about the chance of his name really being 'Maxwell.'

Part 10

Maria's party.

Max attended Maria's party three weeks later just as he had promised.

When he first arrived, half of the females attending the party had their eyes set on him. Some tried to talk to him, share a dance together if they were lucky. But Max had no interest in them. His attention was focused solely on one girl.

Elizabeth Parker.

"Nice to see you again Elizabeth" Max kissed Liz's hand in polite greeting.

Maria clapped her hands together, and spoke in a cheery voice.

"Well, I'll leave you two alone. I am the hostess if this party after all."

She gave Max and Liz a big smile them quickly walked away.

Max and Liz danced, talked to a few people, danced some more, then walked over to the food table to get drinks.

While there, Max saw someone out the corner of his eye. Someone he didn't want there.

"Would you excuse me for a minute, Elizabeth. I'll be right back."

With that, he walked in the direction of one of the brick archways that lead to the outside.

Liz caught sight of someone scurrying away quickly as Max approached them. They both disappeared out of sight around the corner of the pillar.

Liz wondered who this other person might be.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Leave now. You don't belong here." Max said coldly to the old tattered begger man, who looked to be at deaths door.

"Not until you give me what you promised." the old man coughed.

"I did not promise you anything old man. Now leave."

"Let me remind you. Information in exchange for eternal life."

Max thought for a moment before replying.

"If it was Michael who made you that promise, you should take it out with him. Do not come to me again."

Max began to walk away, but the old man grabbed his arm with surprising strength.

"Please! I beg you, I do not have very much time left...."

Max looked at him a while. watched him plead. watched him beg for his life to be extended.

"I cannot." was Max's final reply before leaving to go back to Liz's side. The old man's voice echoed to his ears as he walked.

"Curse you Maxwell Evans! Damn you!"

"I'm already damned." Max whispered to himself.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Liz, I am sorry for the abrupt leaving."

"Liz smiled. "It's ok. Who was that?"

"Oh, just an old acquaintance." Max decided to change the subject.

"Would you like to take a walk in the gardens? I saw them last time, but not have the pleasure of visiting."

"A walk in the gardens would be lovely."

Together they walked out into the into the cool night air towards the garden.

~*~*~*~*~*~

The scent of roses drifted to their senses as they walked down the garden path that had tall rose bushes lined on either side.

Liz loved roses, especially the dark velvet red ones. Red was her favourite colour after all.

Liz went to touch one of the roses, when she accidentally caught her finger on a thorn.

"Ouch!" Liz pulled her hand back quickly in shock.

"Are you alright?" Max asked concerned.

"Yes. I just pricked my finger on a rose thorn that's all."

Max took her hand in his and examined her finger, which now had blood oozing gently out the wound.

He gazed at her blood, mesmerised. Then slowly he lifted her finger and placed it in his mouth before she could say anything.

Max felt like his head was all foggy and swirling, he was getting dizzy, but at the same time he felt an enormous amount of power surge through him like electricity. He felt like he was in heaven.

Even though it was only a little blood, slayer blood was powerful. He couldn't get enough of it. He couldn't get enough of her.

Liz quickly pulled her hand away and blushed a crimson red. She hadn't expected him to place her finger in his mouth, then proceed to suck and lick on it.

"Um..." Liz began nervously.

"I am sorry. I did not mean to...." Max tried to explain his actions.

"No, it's quite all right. I...um...." Liz looked at her finger again. "Thank you, for stopping the bleeding." she gave him a small smile.

"It was my pleasure." Max grinned her at.

Liz turned and began to walk down the path again, hoping her knees wouldn't give out on her after the grin he gave her. Max followed slowly behind, his mind in thought.

Tasting her blood had been amazing. And he couldn't wait to taste it again. To taste her again.....each and every inch of her.

Max smiled to himself, his eyes gleaming.

'Oh yes my dear Elizabeth. It will be my pleasure indeed.'

~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Later that night

"Thank you Max, for walking me home." Liz said politely.

"It was only my duty to keep the lady safe till she is safely in her haven."

Both were now standing outside Liz's front door.

"It is late, you should go home and get some rest." Liz said sincerely.

Max smiled and touched her cheek with his right hand, while gently running a thumb over her cheek in a caress. Liz didn't move. They were staring at each other, eyes locked in an intense gaze.

Liz saw Max lean in his head close to hers, and the next thing she knew, his mouth had crushed over hers in a passionate kiss.

Max's kisses moved from her mouth to her smooth cheeks, then down her slender neck.
Abruptly, Max pulled away. Now was not the time. It was far too soon. She was not ready.

He saw her lips were swollen and red from his intense kisses, and she was panting for breath.

"I am sorry Liz, I had no idea where that came from." he looked at her shyly.

Liz just stood there staring at him.

"Um...goodnight Liz." Max placed a kiss on her cheek, then turned and walked away.

Liz continued to stand there in a daze as she watched him walk off into the night. Slowly she turned and opened the door to her house and walked in. She closed the door and leaned her back and head against it. She let out a breath, her emotions in turmoil.

What was she going to do?! She very much wanted a normal life; a life where she could find the one she loved, her partner, her soulmate, and be with him forever. But it was hardly possible for her since most slayer rarely lived past the age of 25. Then there's the whole slayer secrecy issue.

But one thing was definite. One thing she knew for sure. She was now deeply attracted to him. Max held a power, a force, over her....over her heart. And Liz was terrified of the feelings she harboured for him. What was she going to do? Her emotions continued to churn within her as she got ready for bed.

Part 11

A few nights later, Liz was out patrolling. Things seemed to have quieten down over the past week. It almost seemed normal. Normal... now there's a word Liz wished she could use more often.

The air around her was thick with energy. She could feel it in her bones, in her very being; almost suffocating her.

To a normal person, it would seem like a normal quiet night. Normal did not exist in Liz's world; no matter how hard she tried to obtain and achieve it.

Liz knew something bad was brewing. Her slayer senses told her that much. What it was, she did not know. But whatever it was, she knew she was at the center of it, and life for her would never be the same again.

Liz walked down an alleyway hoping to catch a vampyre. She knew vampyres loved to hide out in there, as it gave them some privacy as they fed on their victims.

Liz came to a cross-road in the alley. She looked in all three directions in front of her, trying to decide which path to take.

A small rustling sound came from the left alley. Slowly and cautiously, Liz walked towards the sound. Stake raised and prepared, Liz looked around her, her slayer senses alert. There were boxes and rubbish scattered about in the alley.

Suddenly, a man lunged out at her out of nowhere and grabbed her arm. Slayer reflexes took over and she used her self defense skills; readying to strike at her vampyre she took aim, but her movement froze, stake mid-raised in the air. Her eyes widened in shock.

Before her, stood a ragged old man. He looked so ill she knew he wouldn't survive much longer. It was a miracle he'd lasted this long with the state he was in.

He gripped her arm tighter, his eyes wide. His words came out in desperation.

"Please! You must stay away from him! He is not who he seems to be. He is more powerful than you. More than you'll ever know. His illusions and charm have blinded you! Why have you not killed him yet?! Why, why, why? He will be the death of you. He's not who he seems...."

Liz's eyes were focused on the old man rambling in front of her. What the hell was he talking about? was he insane?

"What are you talking about? who are you referring to?"

The old man began to cough uncontrollably. He put his hand over his mouth instinctively. When he pulled them away, his hand was filled with blood. He knew his time was up. In panic and desperation, he tried to give Liz her answers before it was too late.

"Maxwell Evans....he's....he's....."

The old man never got to finish what he started. Never got the chance to tell Liz who Max really was....what he really was.

Now he lay in the dirty alley, his eyes still open; but they were vacant and empty. His soul had left. Now it was just his body that was left there. A reminder to the world that he had existed, not that they cared anyway. He was just an old simple beggar man.

Part 12

Liz raced through the doors of the watchers council. Her heart pounding loudly in her ears, her emotions in wild confusion and panic, but at the same time, filled with despair but hopeful that this was all a big mistake.

"Ralenio!" she cried out for her watcher.

Ralenio came running out of the stacks on the first floor. He looked at her over the balcony. Her distressed features cutting into his heart like a million pieces of broken glass.

Something was badly wrong.

"Elizabeth, what's wrong?!" Ralenio began to rapidly descend the stairs towards his young charge.

"What do you know about Maxwell Evans?!"

"Maxwell Evans? Not a lot. There's hardly any written text about him."

"But there are text that exist about him?"

"Yes. Elizabeth, tell me what happened, how did you get his name to begin with?"

Liz told Ralenio all that has happened. What the old beggar man had told her before he died, her dreams of Max - but left out most of the details, and her fear that this 'Maxwell Evans' was indeed Max himself.

Liz began to pace back and forth.

"This cannot be happening! It has to be a mistake....it cannot be true....it cannot be him...."

"I'll get started on the research right away. Maybe the other watchers will also have books about him. I will ask them to assist in this matter." Ralenio busied himself with looking and pulling out at all the different volumes of text on the bookshelves.

Liz sat on the plush sofa and leaned back her head, her hands covered her face.

'Nonononono' kept running through her mind.

Then something occurred to her.

"You shall find out soon" that was what Max had whispered to her in her dream when she asked who he really was.

Liz stared into the flame of the candle that sat on the table in front of her. The orangy/amber glow of the flame reminded her of his beautiful eyes. It pulled her into its mesmerising depths.

Liz let out a breath and closed her eyes.

Things were definitely changing, and it was going to turn her world up-side-down.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Max's Castle

Max stood by the window looking into the vast darkness outside. He stood there, as still as death, his eyes closed in concentration. He was sensing the air....sensing her. He could always find his connection to her no matter where she was, or how far she was from him.

"Almost time." he said to himself.

Part 13

A few days later

"Ralenio have you found anything yet?" Liz asked slightly agitated.

"Well...."

Ralenio took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes before continuing. It had been a long and tedious week of gathering what information they could find on Max.

"From what we have researched so far, we have found two references to the name of Evans."

Liz and Ralenio sat down on the sofa. It was going to be one of those really long hisory lessons, so they might as well get comfortable for it.

"The first Evans dated back to 400 years ago. In 1106, there was someone called Phillip Evans. He was the king of Antartica, or Antar for short. (A/N: Ok, lets just pretend that it's a regular country without snow and ice!) Phillip was an arrogant and competitive man who loved nothing more than to boast about his fortunes to the other rulers of various countries.

Phillip had several wives, but only one bore him a son. Unfortunately, she died not long after due to complications. Phillip was grief stricten, his business affairs began to fall apart, he spent most of his time drowning his sorrows in ale.

It wasn't until his son, who was named Maxwell Evans, had a horse-riding accident that brought him back to reality. From then on, he spent much of his time raising his son and educating him on his business affairs and so forth. He raised him to follow in his footsteps.

However, a few years later, Phillip was struck with a severe fever that left him mentally unbalanced. There were rumours that said he was dabbling in the black arts in secret trying to find a way to become immortal. To forever prolong the the Evans family name, to forever remain the most powerful and rich family that ever walked the earth.

It was to be 10 years later before he found what he was looking for. His son took over his business affairs while he lost himself in his 'quest.'

Phillip found what he was looking for, in the form of a vampyre. He willingly gave up his soul in exchange for immortality.

Phillip killed most of his family and subjects out of a feeding frenzy; although how many he turned is unknown.

However, one fact that we do know for sure is that he changed his very own son into a vampyre. Chnaged him so that if anything happened to him, there would still be someone to carry on the family name, and still withhold the power.

There were little references found after that on what happened to Phillip. The only fact we managed to find on Maxwell Evans was that he travelled around the world a lot after that for the next 200 years or so, searching for something maybe, no-one knows for sure. But death always followed wherever he went.

Due to his direct link to his father by being his flesh and blood, after Phillip bit him, some of the magick that Phillip possessed whiled dabbling transferred to him. Little is known about Maxwell's powers, but it is said he can disguise the eyes with illusion."

Liz sat there in silence, stunned at what she had just heard. 'illusions' Ralenio's last word echoed in her head. 'Was that all it was when Max entered her dreams? a mere 'illusion?' but why?' she wondered. 'Why had he played her heart and mind like that? was this his tactic in an attempt to weaken her? make her fall for him, then destroy her while her defenses were down?'

Liz got more and more angry at the thought.

She got up and walked over to the weapons cabnet on the far wall and began to select what weapons she would need in her appending battle.

Battle Axe, Crossbow or Sword?

Liz decided to go with the crossbow. She could always kill him from afar, he won't know what hit him.

Battle Axe or Sword?

Liz decided the battle axe would be too heavy and bulky when it came to using it, so she opted for the slim-line mid-length sword which weighed less than the axe.

Liz put the crossbow inside a large sand coloured bag and threw in a couple of stakes for good measure, then pulled the strap of the bag over her shoulder so it lay diagonally across her body front and back. She adjusted the weight of the bag so it hung comfortably at the side of her hip.

Picking up the sword, Liz made her way to the door. Before opening it, she turned to look at Ralenio. His mind seemed to be focused somewhere else.

"Ralenio?" Still in a daze "Ralenio?!"

"Oh hmm....?"

"Are you alright?" Liz asked concerned.

"Oh, uh, yes, I am fine."

"Ralenio, is there something else you're not telling me?"

Ralenio was about to say something, then quickly closed his mouth again. It was then he noticed Liz holding the sword and the bulky bag at her side.

"Where are you going?"

Liz raised the sword in front of her face and looked at the blade which seemed to gleam with wicked malice in the light.

"To kill Maxwell Evans." she said in a calm voice before opening the door and disappearing into the night.

Part 14

Liz attached the sword securely to the side of her horse, then mounted it. Liz moved the weaponry bag so it sat in front of her. She wanted the ride to be as smooth and quick as possible, off-balance weight wouldn't help her.

Liz began in a slow trot, then galloped full speed when she reached the main street.

The wind whipped past her face, blowing her long chocolate hair back. It gave her a sense of freedom, but she knew that would never be. She didn't even know if she was going to live past tonight.

Liz found herself galloping through a field, it as strange how she knew how to get to where Max was; it was like she was connected to him; she could feel exactly where he was.

She'd do anything to sparkle in his eye
She would suffer, she would fight, and compromise
She's been wishin' on the stars that shine so bright
for answers to questions that will haunt her tonight

Liz seemed to be having an inner battle between her heart and mind. Her head told her that he was a powerful vampyre that played with her emotions, trying to weaken her. But her heart told her otherwise.

She was in love with him, and her heart told her that he was too. But how can this be? a vampyre and slayer in love with one another?

She must rinse this all away
she can't hold him this way
she must rinse this all away
she can't love him this way

It just wasn't possible.

But it was.

How she'd be soothed, how she'd be saved if he could see
she needs to be held in his arms to be free
but everything happens for reasons that she will never understand
'til she knows that the heart of a woman will never be found
in the arms of a man

She must rinse this all away
she can't hold him this way
she must rinse this all away
she can't love him this way

The battle within her continued to rage. What would she do? give in to her weakness and be with him (providing that he doesn't kill her first), or follow her duty as a slayer and kill him?

The one she truely loved.

And if she runs away she fears she won't be followed
what could be worse than leaving something behind
and as the depth of oceans slowly become shallow
it's loneliness she finds
if only he as mine

She'd do anything to sparkle in his eye
She would suffer , she would fight, and compromise
She's been wishin' on the stars that shine so bright
for answers to questions that will haunt her tonight

Max's Castle

Max's whole being hummed with anticipation. He could feel her drawing nearer and nearer to him. After all these years of searching, he had finally found her.

His soulmate, his other half, and soon.....to be his lover.

Forever

She was his light, and she would cleanse him of his darkness.

His part was done. Now it was up to the powers that be to decide the final outcome of their fate.

She must rinse him
she must rinse him
she must rinse him
she must rinse him
she can't, she won't, she must rinse him
she can't, she won't, she must rinse him
She must rinse this all away
she can't hold him this way
she must rinse this all away
she can't love him this way

Song: Rinse, by Vanessa Carlton

Part 15

Liz slowed down to a trot as she watched the castle looming at her in the distance.

Dark clouds swirled around the highest towers, thunder boomed in the far off distance, a signal for a brewing storm, and a sign of unpredicable change. Just like the storm itself.

As Liz went nearer and nearer the castle, she could feel him as if his presence was right next to her. Her connection, her pull towards him was stronger than ever now.

Liz got off her horse - RavenMoon (Liz had named her that since her coat was black as a raven's, but she had a slight white patch on her nose) and tied her to a nearby tree. As if sensing what was about to happen, RavenMoon gave a small whine and nuzzled Liz. Liz gave a small smile and stroked her head.

"Do not worry my friend, everything will be alright."

Liz turned around and looked at the dark castle that loomed menacingly over her. Strangely though, she felt peaceful and unafraid.

Liz took the sword, walked over to the huge double castle doors, and cautiously entered.

It was eerily silent inside. Candles were scattered about on either side of her in the large foyer. It was her only source of light that guided her though the dim wide corridors of the castle. The flames of the candles licked and danced at their stands creating shadows that moved and shifted on the walls and in the surrounding area.

Liz continued to walk, her long white dress billowing out gently behind her as she ventured deeper into the castle.

Liz opened one of the doors to her right, the door creating a hollow wooden creak as it opened. Liz slowly stepped inside, sword raised. Her eyes darting about quickly scanning the area. The room was filled with books, mst likely to be a library.

Finding nothing unusual, Liz went on her way.

What she didn't notice was the eyes of a painting on the far wall watching her.

Liz entered another room further down the corridor. Slowly entering, a warm roaring fire greeted her. She could see this room clearer than the last one. This one appeared to be a living room.

A chair was facing the fire, the back facing her. But Liz knew it was occupied. She wasn't alone in the room.

The figure stood up and turned to face her, a smile breaking across his lips.

"So we meet again Miss Parker."

Liz stood very still her eyes unblinking.

"Sven." was all she said.

"Surprised to see me, my sweet?"

Just then the door slammed shut behind her with a loud bang.

Michael stood before it, grinning at her.

"I know you....you're that vampyre from the alley."

Michael smirked at her. "Good memory"

"Yeah, you're the one who got your rear end kicked by me, and then you flapped away like a chicken!" Liz taunted.

The smirk disappeared off Michael's face.

"You will pay for that insult" he said menacingly, taking a step towards her.

Liz was not swayed by his intimidation.

"Yes, I'm sure you will." She said sarcastically.

"Who would've thought, after all these years, we'll be taking the one thing that is most precious away from him." Sven decided to make his presence known again, and to stop the Michael/Liz banter that was starting to give him a headache.

Liz backed away a little from standing in between them, this is so she could see them both on either side of her. It wasn't wise to not have your back covered. Vampyres were unpredictable.

"Him who?" Liz asked, though deep down, she was sure she already knew the answer.

"Maxwell Evans. Our blasted step-brother" Sven said bitterly.

Liz gasped inwardly. 'Step-brother? But Ralenio didn't mention any brothers. She thought Max was Phillips only son.'

"I'm sure your watcher did his little research. But judging from your facial expressions, I see that this new revelation comes as a shock to you. But I am not surprised. History has a tendency to misinterpret and leave things behind." Michael gave a sad smile and walked over to the window gazing out. He wasn't looking out into the horizon, instead he was looking back into the past. His mind wandering back to all those centuries ago....

Part 16

"Our father was the ruler of a prosperous country. It was wealthy, and the people were well off and happy. Even though father had all the riches in the land, and wasn't afraid to boast about it, deep in his heart, father had always wanted a son. His wish was granted. His fist born was a son. Maxwell.

Father always seemed to prefer hm more than his other children. Even though we weren't his first born, or shared the same birthing mother, he still should've loved us all equally. But it was never meant to be. Father did give us a little of his time, but it was never as fulfilling as Maxwells. Our sisters had their mothers love, we did too, but being children soon growing up to be young men, we needed a father figure to lead and guide us. But that wish was bestowed on Maxwell instead.

Father became insane in the end. His search to be immortal was to be his own undoing. He killed most of out family members and servants....well, most of the females in our family at least. He said they could never carry on the family name."

Michael turned to face Liz looking at her directly in the eye. His expression was stone cold.

"Do you have any idea how hard it was to watch my sister die by the hands of our very own father?"

Liz stood there in mute shock. Phillip Evans was seriously sick in the heart. How can any parent bring thier own flesh and blood into the world, and then destroy it? But then again, Phillip was insane.

"No. I don't suppose you do." Michael smiled sadly and shook his head. He turned around to face the window again, moving on with the sibject.

"We were all next. Starting with Maxwell. But we weren't so lucky to be rewarded with death and join out families in heaven. No. Instead we were damned to hell to live an eternity on this retched world. We never even had the choice.

Father wanted us to carry on the wealth and power of the Evans family. Most of the responsibility and knowledge fell on Maxwell's shoulders. And us?" he looked over at Sven. "We were suppose to keep Maxwell company and help him if needs be." he said sarcastically.

"When father changed us, some of the power he gained from his dabbling transfered to each of us, but when he died in a fire 150 years later, all his powers and magicks transfered over to the first born. In a way, you could say the essence of our father is in Maxwell.

Being the eldest child, Maxwell became ruler after father died. And we were to serve him. But in secret, we served him with resentment and hatred. We travelled all over the world, our dear brother in search of something. He never told us what; but after a while, we saw the longing in his eyes when he saw happy couples together. A few times, he probably thought he had found 'the one' but it was never meant to be. Maxwell tried to blend in with society, be a 'normal' person. But you cannot undo the past. He continued his search, never content until he completed his mission."

Michael gave a bitter laugh.

"Like father like son."

Liz stayed silent. She wanted to know all the 'facts' of their history. Even if some, if not all of it were lies, she still wanted to know.

Sven, who was sitting on the chair again, this time facing Liz, decided to continue where Michael had left off.

"But we on the other hand..." he gestured with his hands opened to the side "We have no problem with accrepting who we are. What's done is done. We were content on just feeding and having our way with thise whoes who were probably more damned than us." Sven finished with a chuckle.

Michael stepped away from the window and slowly encircled Liz, like a tiger stalking its prey.

"That night when I saw you in the alley, I knew you were different. I knew Maxwell would most certainly be enchanted by you. When he wanted to meet and see you for himself, my theory was confirmed. This enabled us to set our plan in motion." he said with a twinkle in his eyes.

"What plan?" Liz didn't like where this conversation was going.

"When you captured Maxwell's heart, we knew he would be attached to you. You were the one he had been looking for all these years. Maxwell always got what he wanted. Well not this time. We're going to destroy the one thing that means most to him. And that my sweet is you. Our brother is going to learn the feeling of loss and grief."

Liz couldn't believe what she was hearing.

"So you're going to kill me because of you anger towards all your father has done, and your jealousy towards Max."

"You are the one thing in Maxwell's world that can truely tear him apart."

Liz was stunned. Sure she and Max were drawn together, but they were making it out like she was his holy grail or something. And besides, how did she know if this wasn't some setup planned by the three of them? feed her some lies that emotionally weakened her, then once her focus was off balance, they could easily kill her in less than a heart beat. They were vampyres after all. Manipulation was their best trait.

"You're lying. Do you honestly think I would believe something a vampyre tells me?" Liz said in mock belief.

"You're a slayer, you don't have to believe it. You just need to hear it."

Michael took a step forward and quick as a flash, kicked the sword out of Liz's hand which fell to the floor with a clatter. Sven grabbed ger in a vice grip from behind, his strong powerful arms encirling her own, thus trapping her in place.

Sven looked at Michael and grinned.

"You know, they say slayer blood tastes like nothing on this earth."

Michael grinned back and gave a gesture with his hand.

"Then be my guest and test that theory. But remember..." he pointed a finger at Sven "be nice and share."

Liz was struggling now. Sven's head slowly decending on her slender neck, his fangs beared in anticipation for the first taste of her.

Part 17

The back of Liz's head flew back and connected with Sven's face a second before he had the chance to puncture her neck.

Sven let go of Liz, reeling back in a dazed shock and swore.

Quickly, Liz's leg flew forward and aimed to the side. It connected with Michael's jaw with a snapping sound. He was less stunned than Sven, and retaliated with kicks and punches of his own. Liz dodged some while continuing with powerful blows of her own, but the ones she connected with, she felt to the bone. Damn! the stupid vampyres were strong.

Michael did a swinging round house kick that sent Liz flying across the room and slamming hard against the far wall. Liz fell to the floor with a painfully hard thump; the wind knocked out of her. Liz tried to regain her focus, but all she saw were stars dancing infront of her eyes, her head spinning.

She needed a weapon. She felt for her bag, but she realised belatedly that she didn't have it on her anymore. She must've dropped it during the fight. Liz turned her head and saw Sven and Michael comming towards her. She needed a weapon - and fast. She frantically looked around and saw a glimmer of silver in the light. Her sword.

Liz quickly got up, ignoring the pain that vibrated through her body, ran straight towards her opponents, then jsut as she got near them, she jumped high and vaulted over them in a tuck roll. As soon as her feet hit the ground her body went into a tuck roll on the floor. She grabbed the sword off the floor and spun to face her enemies.

"Hey guys?"

They spun to face her.

"You want me?"

She threw her sword like a boomerang propelling dangerously towards her intended target.

"You got me."

Michael gave a sharp yell. He turned to dust before his head hit the ground.

Liz frowned at her last statement.

"Or rather, I got you."

Sven looked at Liz in horror.

"You killed my brother!"

Liz let out a big sarcastic sigh.

"He's already dead you moron."

Liz walked over to where her bag sat and picked it up off the floor placing it across her shoulders. She looked at Sven. His face radiated red seething anger. Liz decided to put him out of his misery.

"You know, you can feel free to join him." Liz said lightly.

He didn't even see it coming, only heard the distinct whooshing sound. Sven clutche dat his chest and stared at Liz in shock and dismay.

Liz watched Sven crumble to dust from the stake she threw at his heart. She stared at the two piles of ashes scattered on the floor and let out a small sigh.

"Sweet dreams."

Liz looked around the room surveying it. Almost all the furniture were broken and scattered about like a bad shipwreck.

"Hmmm....I do good work!" she said, her tone light and playful, her attitude innocent.

Liz walked out the messy room closing the door behind her.

Liz took out her crossbow from her bag and held it as a defence in front of her. She continued down the wide eerie corridor. Liz came out into the main hall. A large grande staircase came into view in front of her. Slowly, she ascended the stairs, then turned right towards the East wing. She knew Max would be there. It was as if he was calling out to her, beckoning her to go to him. As she walked deeper into the castle, a haunting classical melody began to play, echoing all around her.

Part 18 A

He stood with his back turned to her. He knew who she was when she arrived at the castle, when she entered his room. Yet, he did not turn to greet her.

She stood on the other side of the room across from him, weapon raised directly aimed at his back. His arms were nearly folded behind him, his stance calm and relaxed. Not at all intimidated by her actions.

Liz took in the sight of him. Even through the rich deep red silk shirt he wore, she could see his broad shoulders and well defined back moulded into his shirt. He wore black pants that showed off his firm legs and buttocks. Liz felt her face flush with heat. Even though she knew he was a vampyre, and a powerful one at that, he still had a huge effect on her. She sucked in a breath as he turned to face her.

"I knew you would come." he spoke calmly even though he could see the weapon aimed directly at his heart now.

"Yeah, well, thanks for the welcome party downstairs. They made me feel really welcome."

Max gave a small smile ignoring her sarcasm and took a step towards her. Liz raised the crossbow even more signalling for him to stop where he was.

"I knew you would be all right. I knew my so-called brothers would be no match against you."

Liz took two steps towards him.

"Lets get this over and done with. I've wasted enough time with those tow goons."

Max attitude was lazy.

"Why are you in such a hurry sweet Elizabeth?"

"Because I know all about you, and you deserve to die."

Liz gave him a sarcastic smile.

"All over again."

"Hmm......why kill me when we can be so much more together?"

"There is nothing between us. I know it was all part of your plan to seduce me. You think you've weakened me? broken my defences? you think you can protect yourself? You've made a big mistake Max."

"No Elizabeth. It is you who are mistaken. I am not protecting myself. I was merely guiding you. Showing your heart where your destiny lies."

"And where's that? my heart and blood served to you on a silver platter?"

"No. Your destiny is to be with me."

Max stared at Liz intently, his amber eyes buring into her body, penetrating into her soul. Liz unconsciously took a step back. Max took two steps foward.

"I have searched so long for you. When I first saw you, I knew you were the one."

"So you set out to control me through my dreams."

"I have never ever controlled you Liz. You already feel the connection to me. You cannot deny what your heart feels."

Liz stayed slient. She hated that there was some truth to what <ax was saying.

"You know Liz, we aren't that much different. I feel the loneliness you harbour, I crave the normalcy you crave, I feel the connection to you that you have with me. And I love you. I love you, the same way I know you feel the love for me in your heart. We are one Liz. We are kindred. We belong together."

Max was so close she could smell his unique scent.

Tears spilled down her cheeks. She was so confused. What was she to do? trust her feelings in her heart, or the logic in her head? he was a vampyre and it was her duty to kill him. Happiness just didn't exist in her world. It never has.

Gazing into each others eyes, Max slowly pushed the crossbow away. It clattered to the floor. They barely noticed it. Max removed the bag from Liz's shoulders. That too, full of weapons fell to the ground with a thunk.

Max wiped the tears away from Liz's soft rosy cheeks. His face a mere inch away from hers.

"Please Liz, let me take your pain away. You deserve so much more. You deserve happiness, and companionship....and love. Please Liz, let me love you." Max spoke in a hoarse voice filled with emotion, his own eyes watery.

"Max I..." Liz could barely speak, tears clogged her throat.

Max looked deeply into her teary brown eyes and spoke in earnest.

"Liz, I'll understand if you don't want to. I want to give you the chance my father never gave me. But please Liz, look inside your heart, feel what you really want."

Liz's emotions were in turmoil.Maybe for once in her life, she should deserve some happiness. And Max was right. She had foolishly fallen for him even after knew had found out who and what he really was. Even now, gazing into those mesmerizing amber eyes of his, she couldn't deny how her heart felt.

Liz closed her eyes and breathed in a fortifying breath.

"Ok Max." she said barely above a whisper.

Max smiled to himself. Tonight the slayer would be his. His centuries of searching hadn't been in vain. He had finally found her. His soulmate. Neither of them would suffer the loneliness of the world anymore. Liz was going to surrender her desires to darkness, his darkness, that had been forced upon him for so long. But together, they would overcome it. Having Liz in his life (or rather, un-dead life) would cleanse him. She would be his light, his angel to the darkness.

Tonight, things were going to change. It would be the start of something new. For both of them.

Part 18 B

Max traced his fingers down Liz's slender throat, down to the front of her collarbone, then back up again to cup her face.

"I love you Liz. I've loved you since the first time I saw you. Will you let me show you how much I love you?"

Liz couldn't speak, so she merely nodded her head slowly.

Max's mouth descended on hers, at first gentle and soft, caressing, exploring, tasting every inch of her mouth. His kisses deepened into something more primal and molton. He continued to nibble, suck and taste the mouth of the slayer; making love to her mouth with his tongue, both dueling and demanding. She tasted like nothing on this earth; and he couldn't wait to taste the rest of her. All of her.

Liz's moans and gasps were like music to his ears. The eagerness she returned set his lower regions ablaze. He wanted so much more of her.

Max's fingers danced across her shoulders and slowly eased the straps of her white dress off her. How appropriate that she came to him wearing virginal white Max thought. But the purest form lay beneath the dress.

The dress fell in a heap around Liz's ankles.

Max took a step back to admire her. Liz was like a goddess standing before him. Her chocolate coloured hair cascading over her creamy skin. The curves of her body tempted him like an oasis, beckoning him to go to her. To touch every inch of her.

Quickly, he discarded his own clothing, leaving a sight for Liz's eyes to feast on. He walked towards her again and removed the last of her clothing - which were her undergarments.

She stood as naked as he was, her breasts heaving due to her shallow breathing. Pulling Liz flush up against his body, heated skin against heated skin, Max looked deeply into her eyes.

"Do you have any idea how beautiful you are? how perfect you are? or what you do to me?" Max gave a low growl at the alst statement and pulled her hips against his as if to prove to her. Liz gave a moan of pleasure at the contact and also at the fact of knowing how she controlled and affected him.

Max kissed her lips, her jaw, her neck. Msx resisted the urge to simply sink his teeth into her and drink her dry. No. Liz was to be savoured. Max continued his way down to her soft plump round breasts. Latching onto one, he suckled, licked and gently nipped (but not enough to draw blood) and tasted. Liz was so sweet, almost honey like. Her hands tangled in his hair as she arched back gasping, giving him full access to both of her breasts that she thrusted into his face. He took full advantage.

Max picked Liz up and carried her over to his king size bed with silky red sheets. Gently laying her down, he was on top of her again, devouring her mouth. He kissed down her soft body leaving a trail of fire in his wake. Liz gasped and moaned in pleasure, writhing under him. Max continued to venture lower, exploring every inch of her, torturing her.

Liz slowly looked up to see why he had stopped his torturous movements. She saw him looking up at her between her legs, his eyes asking for permission, begging her to say yes. How could she refuse? she was so far gone, she feared there was no return.

Max looked at Liz's flushed rosy face and saw her nod. A grin spread over his face and his head lowered to taste her nether regions. Liz cried out and arched her back off the bed at the first contact of his tongue delving into her depths. Gripping the sheets and whimpering, she let the waves of pleasure wash over her like the sea crashing against the cliffs.

Max moved back up her body and kissed her swollen lips.

"Did you enjoy that?" he asked in a low husky voice.

Liz decided it was time to return the favour. She flipped him over so now, he was beneath her, she pinned his arms above his head. Her strength equalled to his, if not more. She kept him down. Not that Max minded having this beauty towering above him, her breasts dangling in front of his face so close mouth, he could take one if he lifted his head.

Liz looked down at him, her eyes gleaming with desire, her voice low and seductive.

"Oh, I enjoyed that. And as a thank you, I'd like to show you how much I enjoyed it."

She leaned in and gave him a lingering kiss. When she pulled back, she saw he had his eyes tightly closed. Liz looked at him amused. Max opened his eyes and looked at her, then groaned out.

"You're going to be the death of me."

Liz gave him an amused smile. "Max, you already died once. But maybe I can make you feel more alive." and with that she kissed her way down his taut muscled chest, down to his abdomen, and finally......

"Oh god!" Max nealy bolted off the bed when he felt Liz's hot mouth encase over his over sensitised manhood, which was straining to the point of exploding. Max squeezed his eyes shut tightly and sucked in a breath. His breathing turned deep and laboured. Closing his eyes was a big mistake. His vampyre senses became ten time more alert and sharp....could feel every sensation that Liz was evoking in him.

Max couldn't take it anymore, stealthily, he flipped them over so now Liz lay pinned beneath him.

"Liz...I have to.....have you. I have to....take you. Now." he panted.

Liz stroked his cheek then kissed him hard and deep. An invitation for him to do as he pleased.

Max spread her legs, then positioned himself. This was it, the moment he had waited so long for. Slowly, he eased himself into her. Halfway through, something stopped him. Her virginal barrier. Gazing deeply into her eyes, he asked if she really wanted to do this, and for the permission to completely join with her. The smoldering look in her eyes gave him all the answer he needed. He pushed through. Liz cried out in pain and gripped her hands on his shoulders, her head buried in his neck. Max didn't dare move. As the pain passed, Liz started to move her hips, grinding into him. Following suit, Max started to move fully within her. Slow movements soon turned to frantic pounding of bodies. Ecstasy and bloodlust filled Max and he pulled out of Liz and slamming back into her tight core over and over again. He could feel her blood surging through her body.

"Liz...ughh....ughh....ughh......I have to....taste you.....will you....ugh...let me?"

Liz's head swam with the feeling of building ecstasy, her mind a blur, all she could do was feel what Max was doing to her body. Her heart sang out to him, this was what she wanted right? right? Logic and doubt flew out the window as the first waves of her orgasm hit her. She tilted her neck and offered it to Max. Max bent his head, elongated his fangs and sunk into the flesh of Liz's soft delecate neck.

Pain and ecstasy rolled into one, overlapping each other so the sensations became a mixed blur. Liz held on tightly to Max as he continued to frantically pound into her small fame, while he drank her life blood.

The flashes came fast and intense.

Liz saw herself as a young girl watching her parents get killed by those two vampyres, the way they lay there unmoving, their eyes frozen in terror; the numerous people she couldn't save because she'd arrived too late, blood cells coarsing through her veins, her heart beating, the pumping of blood loud in her ears, the growl of a vampyre, Max sinking his fangs into her neck and drinking.

Could she do it? be willing to let herself drink his blood and become the very thing that killed her parents? they very thing that she was born to stop? could she ignore what her heart was feeling for the greater good?

Liz's eyes flew open.

She gently touched his cheek and gazed at him. Tears ran down her flushed cheeks.

"I'm so sorry Max" she brokenly whispered.

Max gave a sharp cry of pain and arched up. He didn't even see it coming. He stared down at Liz, then reality hit him.

"I'll always love you Liz." he strained through the pain. Kissed her softly on her lips, then lay his head on the crook of her neck."I'll always love you." slowly, he began to disappear into a grey mist.

Liz lay there in Max's bed, the room once filled with moans of pleasure now was deathly silent. Liz turned onto her side and pulled the bed covers over her naked body and began to silently weep.

The broken piece of bedpost rolled off the bed and clattered to the floor with a hollow pang.

Liz had done her duty, she had done what she had been born to do. She had resisted becoming the thing that destroyed what was most dear to her. Everything was as it should be.

Then why did her heart feel as if half of it had died?

Part 19 A

Liz had gone home to change and wash up, all the while her heart feeling as heavy as lead. It shouldn't be this way. She shouldn't have felt anything, not guilt, not sadness, not loneliness, and especially not pain. But she did. All the way down to her soul.

After cleaning up and dressing, somewhat robotically, Liz made er way to the council HQ.

"Ralenio?"

No-one greeted her. She stood in the middle of the empty room. Maybe Ralenio had ventured far into the stacks. She checked for him, but he wasn't there. How odd. Where could he be?

Liz walked back down to the ground floor and wandered around behind the staircase. Then something caught her eye. How had she not noticed it before? one of the wooden panels that supported the starcase had come loose. Gingerly, Liz pulled it apart. It revealed a dark tunnel that seemed to lead underground. Liz felt a tingle at the back of her neck and an uneasy feeling in the pit of her gut. Something felt off. Did Ralenio know about this? why was there a secret passgeway leading beneath the council HQs?

Deciding to investigate, Liz cautiously descended the stairs, her senses on full alert.

As she got closer to the bottom of the stairs, it became brighter; candles hung on the rocky stone walls on either side of her. It casted dancing shadows around her. Liz continued to venture deeper underground.

After a while, the tunnel opened up into a large cavern. There were three passageways in front of her. Liz guessed that this was probably used to throw people off the trail. No doubt that one of them was the correct route while the other two were either dead ends, or lead to a certain death.

Closing her eyes, and standing as still as a statue, Liz relaxed her breathing and let her slayer senses guide her. A very slight breeze blew at her whispy hair, the sound of a whooshing indicating one of the passageways unblocked.....and....Liz listened harder....voices. She could hear muffled voices.

Liz's eyes flew open and she bolted down the center tunnel.

Liz had been correct; as she neared the end of the tunnel, the voices grew louder and more audible. She hid behind a rock at the end of the passageway and listened.

One of the voices sounded familiar somehow....

"I am never wrong. The cards never lie!" an old womans voice came out raspy and angry.

"There has to be a mistake." a mans voice came.

It hit Liz like a blow to her gut. She recognised the voice. It was Ralenio. Her watcher. But what was he doing down here? what secrets was he hiding from her?

"The prophecy has foretold that the slayer by the name of Elizabeth Parker will be the most powerful slayer of all. She alone will destroy the most powerful vampyre that walked the earth. She will absorb all his powers, but it will be too strong for her; and she will die."

"There has to be a way to stop this!" Ralenio cried.

"There.....is another way to save your charge....." she said slowly.

"Tell me."

"I, could absorb the power from her, magickally of course. Being the Seer I know howt o handle and control magicks...."

Ralenio shook his head and sighed. "You very well know you cannot control black magick. It would consume you."

"But I can --"

"No. There has to be another way." Ralenio saod sternly, making his point clear.

The Seer got up from the table and walked around the room.

The room turned chillingly cold.

"Foolish man. You cannot stop what is destined to be. I have waited far too long for this!" she hissed.

Ralenio knew something was wrong. Very wrong.

"What are you talking about?"

"I foresaw all of this. That was why I sent Christine to retrieve her...."

Christines words from so long ago echoed in Liz's head. She understood them now.

"The Seer was right...you were in England."

"It was a shame of what had happened to her parents. Such tragedy." the Seer mocked.

The realisation pulled Ralenio down like he was sinking in quicksand.

"You set them up. To get to Elizabeth, you had her parents murdered by vampyres..." Ralenio felt sick.

"It was the only way. If I had kidnapped a little girl away from her parents, it would have been too risky with all the investigations and serches. But by having her parents dead, and having the council take care of their bodies, no-one will ever know of what had happened to that little orphaned girl."

The Seer walked over to the cabnet and pulled out an old weathered scroll parchment.

"And with the girl working as the slayer doing her duty, it all went according to plan. I would wait until the day came when she'll kill Phillip Evan's eldest son."

She caressed the rolled scroll in her hands.

"And when she gets back, I shall read from this scroll and both their powers will be mine. With the slayers strength and the vampyres inherited magick, I shall be unstoppable. I will forever be invincible. And everyone shall bow down to me!"

The Seer let out an evil cackle that sounded anything but human.

"You will be stopped!" Ralenio enunciated each word with anger.

"By who? you, her feeble watcher? or shall I say uncle."

Liz's head was reeling from all this information she had eavesdropped on. She decided it was time to let her presence be known. Stepping away from her hiding place, she glared at them.

"Am I interrupting something?"

Part 19 B

"Elizabeth! what are you doing down here?!" Ralenio started to rush towards her side, but her glaring eyes stopped him dead in his tracks.

"I could ask you the same thing. Uncle"

Ralenio looked down at his shoes shamefully.

Liz looked icily at the Seer. "So you were the one who had my parents killed."

"I only did it to bring you to your destiny!"

"You mean for your own selfish reasons." Liz retorted.

"No-one can stop what is meant to be. You did kill Maxwell Evans did you not?"

"That, I did." The confession made Liz feel like someone was ripping out her heart and cutting it into a thousand little pieces.

"You see? you have already begun to walk down the path to your ultimate destiny."

Liz walked over to the table where tarot cards laid out in a past, present and future spread. She picked up the alst one which hadn't been turned over.

"Looks like you missed one." Liz said glancing at the Seer.

The Seer smile evilly at Liz. "All the cards have told me the same answer numerous of time. I do not need to look at that card to know it will bring me the same answer."

Liz looked at the card and showed it to the Seer.

"The future card is 'Justice.' Looks like the future's not set after all. The tipping of the balance can go either way."

Liz watched the shock go through the Seer.

"But that cannot be!"

"Yes, well, perhaps it had something to do with mmy picking it up rather than you."

Liz shrugged and threw the card back on the table.

"Many people have told me what my destiny is suppose to be. But I have now learnt that there is no set destinies to follow; but to trust the feelings in my heart, and let that guide me through my path to where I'm suppose to belong."

Emotions flooded inside Liz, but she didn't let it show through. Max had told her to trust her feelings and follow her heart. Oh, why didn't she listen?! why did she have to go and be against it? She was a fool. But it was too late now. Max had died by her hands, and she'll just have to live with the guilt of it.

The Seer sneered at her. "It doesn't matter what you think of your destiny. I know what mine will be, and I will achieve it!" The Seer began opening the sacred scroll.

Liz started to advance towards her.

"Let the battle begin."

Part 19 C

The Seer brgan to chant from the scroll.

Liz's first thought was to get the scroll away from the Seer.

Liz spun kick, but the Seer ducked and rolled to the side. In reflex, Liz's arm sprung out and grabbed the Seer's back causing her to drop the scroll as she tried to regain her balance.

Too late.

Liz's hard pull caused the seer to completely lose balance, and she ended up falling to the ground landing on her rear end. But jsut as quickly, she recovered and swung her leg out and knocked Liz to the ground. While Liz was distracted, the Seer made another grab for the scroll.

Liz expertly flipped herself back up and brought her leg down hard on the Seer's back. The Seer cried out in pain from the blow. Liz grabbed the scroll and tossed it to the other side of the room.

The Seer hissed a curse at her.

"What your mouth." Liz chastised.

"Fine! you want to play little girl? we'll play."

Before Liz knew what was happening, she found herself flying across the other side of the room, her back slamming against the jagged bumpy stone wall. Liz cried out as pain shot through her back and throughout the rest of her body. Liz fell to the floor with a bone cracking thump.

The Seer stood glowering at her. "You think you can best me? we haven't even begun."

Liz stood up on shaky legs and walked forward.

Before she knew it, she was flying across the wall again. Liz vision started to blur, but she knew the Seer was making her way to retrieve the fallen scroll.

Using all her strength, Liz ran towards the Seer's turned back and tackled her to the floor.

"RALENIO! GET THE SCROLL!!!" Liz yelled at her watcher.

Ralenio quickly ran to retrieve the fallen artefact.

"DESTROY IT!!" Liz yelled again while trying her best to stop the Seer from getting up.

Ralenio tried to rip and tear the parchment, but it wouldn't work. He tried to burn it with the flame of a candle, but that didn't work either.

"It's protected by magick!" Ralenio called out just in time to witness the Seer punch Liz in the face. Dazing her.

The Seer turned towards the watcher, anger blazing in her eyes.

"That...." she pointed a finger at the scroll "belongs to me!" The Seer motioned her fingers forward and an invisible force propelled him backwards against a wall, thus knocking him out cold.

Liz was on her own now.

Getting her bearings back, Liz realized she couldn't fight the Seer with traditional hand-to-hand combat. She needed to fight with magick. Liz knew she had absorbed Max's powers, but how was she suppose to know how to use them? But first things first, she needed to find a way to tap into them.

Liz, sitting on the floor clsoed her eyes and evened her breathing. Her mind no longer focused on the outside world, it focused internally.

Liz felt a prick, and then a tingle, then it began to ignite. She felt its power; it grew and spread through her, it was like electricity spreading through her veins, it coursed through her entire being. Liz felt her wounds healing themselves.

It was pure black magick at it most primal.

Liz could feel herself growing stronger and more powerful. In her minds eye, she could see flashing images, but she didn't understand them. They were images of poeple screaming, dying, blood splashed freely about, fires consuming houses and building, then.....a voice....

"Father! please! I beg of you! father noooo!......."

"Max....." Liz whispered internally when she realized who the voice that begged for mercy belong to.

Liz could feel the power getting stronger and stronger, almost consuming her.

"I'll always love you Liz." came his voice again.

It was as if Max was with her...within her.....giving her all the power she needed to defeat the Seer. Absorbing his power had somehow magically binded them together. They were one.

"Believe in yourself Liz. You can do this. Believe in us. his voice faded away into the background.

Liz knew what she had to do.

Slowly standing up, Liz lifted her head, then opened her eyes to face the Seer.

The Seer gasped out in shock when she saw Liz.

Liz's eyes were dilated and as black as onyx.

The Seer knew Liz had somehow tapped into the power, and now she was going to use it against her.

When Liz spoke, she was clear and concise.

"Lets end this."

The Seer tried to send a bolt of lightning energy at Liz, but Liz just held up her hand and a shield was formed, buffering the attack.

"My turn."

Liz clsoed her eyes and focused; then channelled a huge amount of energy directly at the Seer.

The Seer flew back against the wall. The impact caused the wall to crumble.

Weakened, but not defeated, the seer got up once again and tried to appear unaffected, but her wobbling gave away her weakened state. She stumbled a few steps and looked at Liz, who just stood on the same spot looking at her with void black eyes. Power and magick crackling around her.

The Seer lunged for the scroll and began to read.

Liz Simply held out her hadn, and willed the scroll to go to her. It flew out of the Seer's grasp and into Liz's waiting hand.

"No!" screeched the Seer. "It was not suppose to be like this. No-one can changed destiny!"

Liz ignored her words. She looked at the Seer, then whispered a few incoherent words.

The Seer started to scream and writhe in pain and agony. Her blood was beginning to boil inside her. Literally.

Holding the scroll, Liz placed her right palm on top of it and spoke another incantation.

"Saliar contuma bicaru nuen
Binara falia fores lyos
Binara etumn contum sos
With these words, I forever bind you to this scroll."

The Seer screeched even louder.

Ralenio became conscious of the screaming, and looked groggily from Liz to the Seer.

Liz once again closed her eyes and channelled all her energy through her hand and into the scroll. The scroll began to glow a hot red, then cracked.

Ralenio could see the same thing happening to the Seer. He turned and retched on the floor.

Liz raised the scroll above her hand, and suspended it in the air telekinetically. It hovered, then burst into flames. As the magicak fire ate and consumed the scroll, it disintegrated with a loud bang, and a shock wave pulsed and vibrated throughout the cavern. Ralenio floored himself to avoid it.

After the initial shockwave passed, Liz let out a breath and collapsed to the floor.

Part 20

A while later.

"I guess I clocked that bitches ass real good huh?"

Ralenio and Liz sat together leaning against the wall after the battle with the Seer.

"You did an excellent job Elizabeth."

Silence fell over them.

"So, um...you're my uncle?" Liz needed confirmation from Ralenio jsut to be sure.

"Yes, I am.From your mothers side."

"Mother never mentioned anything about you. Why didn't you tell me sooner?" tears welled up in Liz's eyes.

"I am truly sorry Elizabeth. The council forbidded me to tell you the truth. Since I was your watcher, they feared I would become too personal with you. They wanted you to have no distractions when it came to your duty. But, you are amy niece, my family. No matter what the council wanted or forbidded, I did grow attached to you; though, I kept it a secret."

Liz sighed and let out a curse. Things were so messed up with her life.

"Your mother knew you were the slayer the day you were born. When she saw that mark on your ankle....well, she wanted you to have nothing to do with it. She wanted a normal life for you. But then....well, after your parents passing, you were assigned to me to watch over you."

Liz let out a bitter laugh.

"Maybe the Seer was right. Maybe I can't alter destiny, but to follow the path that is set."

Ralenio looked at his niece in concern. She looked a pasty white, sweat beaded her skin, and she looked exhausted.

"Elizabeth, are you alright?"

"No uncle, I am not. It's the power I absorbed from Max. When I tapped into it, I could feel its power. It almost consumed me, and continues to do so. It is too strong for me to control. The power I unleashed in the battle was nothing. It barely dented the real source of power."

Liz let out anothre shaky breath before continuing.

"I'm dying uncle. Just as the prophecy has foretold."

"No! we'll find a way...." Ralenio desperately tried to cocme up with an answer; but he knew he could do nothing to save her. It ripped him up inside knowing that fact.

"Even if I do live through this, I won't work as the slayer anymore. I won't work for the council. They have used me just as the Seer had, for their own selfish reasons. They robbed me of my childhood, my innocence, my family."

"But you still have me." Ralenio placed his hand on her arm giving it an affectionate squeeze.

"I know uncle, and I thank you for letting me know the truth about you, and anbout what happened. You have no idea how much that means to me."

Liz leaned in and kissed his cheek, then hugged him tightly.

"Take care dear uncle."

Liz got up weakly using the wall to support her balance.

"Where are you going?"

Liz breathed in a calming breath.

"To the only place where I can truly find peace."

Liz walked out the passageway leaving Ralenio alone in the cavern.

Part 21

Liz stood outside Max's castle. Gazing up at the castle, it longer seemed gloomy or intimidating. In fact, Liz felt it welcoming her; like she was finally home. Home to a place where she truly belonged.

Liz entered the master bedroom. Max's room.

Walking over to the bed, she lay her dying body down to rest. Turning to one side, she sniffed the pillow; it still carried his scent.

Tears began to fall. All of Liz's emotions that she withheld and denied for so long poured out of her tears. Her loss, her grief, her anger, her loneliness....her love.

Her love for Max.

Barriers of doubt and anger around her heart vanished. Liz's true untainted emotions flowed through her unbridled.

She was scared to admit it before, but not now. She had trusted what she saw with her eyes - but they were all illusions. She should've trusted her instincts.

It was too late to changed the past, but maybe, just maybe for one last time, she'll believe and trust in herself.

"I love you Max. I'm so sorry for the pain I caused you. I should've believed in you. In us." she whispered to no-one in particular. And she truly did mean her words.

The last remnants of her tears landed on the soft silky pillow. Liz closed her eyes feeling her life seeping away.

"I love you Max. Maybe we can finally be together now."

~*~*~*~*~*~

"Liz, sweet, you have to wake up."

The soothing voice called to her, but it sounded so far away.

'I must be dreaming. I must have died and gone to the nether world - whether hat be heaven or hell.' Liz thought.

The voice called to her again, this time mroe urgent.

Slowly, she tried to shove the cloudiness away and opened her eyes.

Liz blinked a few times and tried ti focus her gaze. She felt a hand stroking her cheek, she heard the voice again close to her.

"Liz, can you hear me?"

Liz felt so weak; she could barely make out the voice and her vision was still blurry. Liz closed her eyes and then opened them again, trying to focus once more.

"Max?...."

"Yes sweety, it's me Max."

"Are we in heaven or hell?" Liz asked in a weak whisper.

"Neither."

"Neither?" Ok, maybe she was hallucinating this.

"Liz, I'm not dead. Well, so to speak."

"But I killed you...Max I'm so sorry...I....." Liz began to weep.

"Sshh....it's ok. You saved me Liz. You brought me back."

"How?"

"When I drank from you, I had your blood flowing in me, it was like I was apart of you. Just like you are a part of me know since you absorbed my powers. When you gave in and admitted your true feeling, that you loved me, you meant and felt it with all your heart, you felt it to your soul. NO slayer has ever truly loved a vampyre before. You loved me for who I am rather than what I am. The magicks you absorbed from me activated something......something cosmic. You saved me with your love Liz. Now let me save you." his voice was hoarse with emotion.

"It's...to late...Max."

"No! we still have a little time left....." Max said desperately.

"The power, I ...I can't fight it anymore." Liz's eyes began to drift close again.

"No! Liz, stay with me honey, keep your eyes open." Max continued to sit on the edge of the bed stroking Liz's cheeks and smoothing back her hair from her damp forehead; trying to lure her back to consciousness.

Liz looked at her beloved through hooded eyes.

"Can't...can't change destiny Max...the prophecy...I'm meant to...."

"Liz, we can change destiny. I can save you." Max paused and looked at Liz intently.
"Liz, you have to drink from me. Let me share some of the power."

"But then....I'll be a ......"

"Yes, you will. I won't force you if you don't want to; but Liz, it's the only way you will live, and we can be together then."

Liz let out a shaky sigh. A million thoughts flying through her mind.

Could she live the life that Max was forced to live for so long? could she become the very thing that had her parents murdered? could she turn her back on what she had known for so long?

But then, that's when everything became so clear to Liz.

Nothing was as it seemed in the world she lived in. She had been used and betrayed. In a battle she thought she was fighting on the side of good, but in the end turned out to be painfully false. Light and darkness wasn't so distinguishable anymore; but rather a blurry shade of gray.

Max hadn't chosen to become a vampyre, and his family didn't deserve to be slaughtered the way they had. And he only killed for survival and not out of pleasure like so many demented vampyres had. He had the will to carry on living life the way he saw fit. He chose to stay good rather than succumb to the forces of evil.

Liz admired him for that strong will. He might be a vampyre on the outside, but on the inside, Liz could see a lost and lonely man trying to find his way home. Home to a palce he belonged.

Liz realised they weren't so different after all. They had both lost loved ones to the darkness; their innocent lives were torn away from them at an early age; they have both been betrayed by the people they thought they knew and trusted, and through it all, they were still here. As strong survivors.

Her love had brought him back from the 'dead' which puts the phrase 'true love conquers all' into perspective. Liz felt her love for Max in every single molecule of her being - mind, body and soul. And if spending an eternity as a vampyre meant with him, then so be it. They'll be together forever, and no-one was going to betray them, hurt them, or break them apart.

Liz gazed into Max's soulful eyes that spoke to her in volumes without the need for words. She looked into her heart for guidance. She knew what she was about to do was for the right reason. She felt no doubt and no fear. Just a sense of impending peace.

Liz lifted her hand and caressed his cheek. His hand held hers and Max closed his eyes enjoying the tender moment with his love.

"I love you Max." she whispered to him. "And I want to be with you. Forever."

Max gazed into her eyes that spoke all the truths that she felt. He leaned in slowly and palced a gentle kiss on her lips.

"I'll take good care of you Liz. I promise."

Tears of happiness streamed down Liz's temples.

Max made a cut on his wrist, then held it to her lips.

"Drink Liz."

The first drops of Max's blood dripped onto her lips. She licked it for a first taste, then took his wrist fully into her mouth and drank deeply.

Suddenly, Liz began to gasp and writhe on the bed. Max looked on in horror. She seemed to be in pain, she was twisting about and crying out.

Then Max felt it. He clutched at his chest and fell to the floor. The pain was blinding and he could feel the magicks running through his veins, pulsating throughout his body. He felt as though every molecule in his body was exploding.

Something was wrong. This wasn't suppose to happen, at least he hoped not. The room began to spin in his vision. Max groaned out.

Soon the room was silent. A deathly chill blew throughout the castle.

Her body lay on the bed, her hand still grasping the bed sheets in a tight hold. His body lay on the floor sprawled out.

Neither one moved or breathed.

Part 22

Watcher entry #698
Watcher: Ralenio James Parker
Charge: Elizabeth Parker
Dated: 7th August 1506

This will be the last entry to the watcher's diaries. After this, I will no longer work for the council. I am resigning my post as watcher.

For the longest time I can remember in my life, I thought I was doing my proper duty and protecting the world. I had thought I was on the side of good, the side of the light fighting against the forcess of darkness. It is true that evil must be stopped in this world, but I now see that appearances can be deceiving. For not all demons are bad, and not all humans are good.

When light and darkness collide, it is hard to see the true path; for truth and lies are not set in stone as to what they are. They are what we make of them. What we choose to believe and see gives us our truth and our lies. By seeing with our eyes gives us illusions; but by seeing with our hearts is the path to the truth.

Elizabeth and I have been seeing with our eyes for so long that it has blinded us from the realitys of the world. We have paid the price of our ignorance, Elizabeth more so than I.

But it is over now.

My only wish is that Elizabeth truly finds her own inner peace and happiness, and a place where she belongs. Wherever that may be.

I have done all I can. It is up to the gods and the powers that be to decide how this will end for all of us.

Ralenio put his pen down and clsoed the diary. He ran a hand over his tired face and sighed.

Picking up the diary, he placed it on a shelf along with all the other journals.

walking by a table, he picked up a large box that contained his belongings. Walking over to the door, he gave the room one last look before he closed it firmly behind him.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Max woke sosmetime later and found himself lying on the hard floor. His first thoughts were of Liz. Jumping up quickly, he found her lying on the bed. Climbing up onto the bed, he cradled her in his arms.

"Liz? Liz, please wake up." he pleaded desperately. This wasn't suppose to happen. It was all his fault! "Liz? can you hear me? oh god! I'm so sorry! I'm so terribly sorry Liz!" he sobbed into her hair.

A bright light filled the room blinding Max. When he looked up again, he saw his father standing before him by the end of the bed. He had an etheral glow around him.

"Father?" Max asked astonished.

"Yes Maxwell, it's me."

"What are you doing here?" Max looked at Liz then gropped her tighter. "Father, please don't take her away from me, please!" Tears streamed down his face.

Phillip looked sternly at his son.

"Maxwell, I did not raise you to be a blubbering idiot!"

Max didn't care. He simply turned away and buried his face in Liz neck and continued to stroke her hair, while whispering endearments in her ear. "I love you Liz, please come back to me."

Phillip's face softened.

"You really love her don't you?"

"With all my heart."

"Maxwell, I know I was wrong to force you into a life you didn't want. I was wrong about a lot of things in life. I did a lot of unspeakable things. I realised all this before I entered that burning building."

"You mean you..."

"I couldn't face you son; of all the pain and anguish I caused to you and our family. I wanted to repent for my sins."

Phillip sighed in sorrow and hung his head.

"I know I can be forgiven for what I did, but maybe I can give you some light in your life. Give you what I stole from you."

"What are you talking about?" Max asked puzzled.

"To be human again."

Max looked at his father in surprise. "You can do that? you can change me back?" he looked at Liz's sleeping form. "What about Liz? I can't leave her like this. I promised I'd take care of her." he said quietly.

"I can bring her back too. I can use the dark magicks power to change it to a deed of good. "

Phillip walked over to Max and placed a palm on his son's head. A white glow emanated from his hand. Max felt a warm tingle run throughout is body. Then for the first time in centuries, he felt his own heart beat again. Slowly at first, then more regularly. He felt his body warm up as his own blood pumped through his veins.

Phillip then placed his plam on Liz's forehead and another glow emanated from his palm. A second later, Liz's eyes fluttered open.

"Max?"

"Yes sweetheart, I'm right here."

"What happened?"

Max looked at his soulmate with loving eyes. "We're human Liz. We're human again."

"But how can that be? I thought...."

Max indicated to Phillip, who had wandered to stand st the end of the bed again.

"Liz, meet my father. PhillipEvans. He changed us back. I guess it's his way of saying he's 'sorry' for all the things he's done."

Liz's eys blazed with anger when she saw the man. Anger of what he had done to Max. But then she softened when she realised that he was trying to put things right, by giving Max another chance in life. But that didn't stop her from disliking him.

"I can't say I am pleased to meet you Mr Evans, but I thank you for giving Max another chance in life. One that he deserves."

Phillip smiled. He liked her already. Stubbon, strong-willed and not afraid to speak her mind. Just like his son's defiance of him when he refused to live the life that was forced on him. He was so un-like his stepbrothers.

"Be happy my son. I wish you both a perfect and content life together."

Phillip turned to go, but then faced Liz.

"And Liz, a mesage from your parents. They told me to tell you that they are proud of you. No matter what you do in life, they will always be proud of you. And they love you very much."

Tears streamed down Liz's delicate cheeks. "Thank you. Tell them I love them too, and that I missed them terribly."

"I will."

After phillipdisappeared, Max gazed at Liz lovingly. He was finally going to spend the rest of his life with her. His one true love.

Max bent his head and kissed Liz with all the passion and love he held for her. And together they joined as one and celebrated their union of love into the night.

Epilogue

One month later

Max and Liz walked down the soft sandy beach hand in hand. For the past few weeks, they had gone out in early morning o greet the sunrise, and bid farewell to the sunset in the late evening.

Sitting on the sandy beach with Liz leaning into his embrace, Max closed his eyes and enjoyed the feel of the sunsets warm raise soacking into his skin. It felt good to be alive again. He felt his body hum with energy, but most of all, his desire for Liz.

"Max?"

"Hmm?"

"Uncle Ralenio invited us for dinner the day after tomorrow. Do you want to go?"

Max paused for a moment and held her closer. "Sure, why not." Max knew it was important for Liz to rebuild her relationship with her uncle. After all, he was the only family Liz had ever known, who had been by her side since the death of her parents.

"Speaking of dinner," Liz said huskily turning her head to look up at Max's face. "I'm a little peckish myself right now."

Max nuzzled her cheek. "Oh really? well, I'll have you know I'm pretty starved myself." he looked at her with sizzling eyes that could practically eat her alive.

She knew eactly what he wanted. What he craved.

"Well we'd better get the beast fed then." Liz murmured seductively against his lips.

Together they ran up the beach, and back up to the castle just as the last of the setting sun's raise disappeared below the horizon.

~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~

He crawled slowly towards her from the end of the bed, like a predator about to ensnare its prey. Its next delicious meal.

He kissed her inner thighs; she squirmed under his delicate but inflaming touch and moaned in lustful pleasure.

He moved higher up her body trailing hot open mouthed kisses on her soft skin. Finally, he reached her rosy lips for a lingering passionate kiss. He braced his weight on his strong muscled arms and looked down at her flushed form. She was a vision for the eyes. And he had branded her his, and his alone he will continue to brand her every time they made passionate love.

"Do you trust me?" he asked her huskily.

"Of course I trust you Max. Why?"

He smiled seductively and mischievously at her.

"You'll see."

His seductive words made her blood heat up a couple of degrees. She wanted him so bad.

Reaching over the bedside table, Max picked up three different lengths of silky red material.
Taking one of the longer material, he wrapped the first piece around Liz's wrist, then tied the loose end to the bedpost.

Liz watched her handsome lover do the same with her other wrist with the second piece of material.

"Max?" her voice came out in a breathy question.

Max leaned in and captured her lips in his.

"Trust me Liz, I won't harm you."

Max tied the remaining shorter piece of material around Liz's eyes.

"Just feel Liz. Just feel. Let your senses guide you."

As soon as the blindfold covered her eyes, Liz's touch sense kicked into gear, and her sense of sight faded down the list of senses. She could feel Max's warm breath tickling her ear as he whispered the words. She could feel the gentle caress of the cool breeze blow in from the open window across her heated skin. Then she felt Max's touch. She yearned for more. So much more from him. She wanted to feel him in her. To push her to ultimate completion.

"Max...please..." she panted in a whimper.

"Sshh...patience my sweet." he cooed.

Liz rubbed her thoighs together trying to ease the burning ache in her lower region, but it only fueled her desire rather than diminish it.

"Maaax....." she whimpered in desperation.

He caressed his lovers heated swollen body; over her breasts, down the side of her ribs, over her curvy hip, then snaked his hand to her inner thigh. Then, using two fingers, he entered her wet depths.

Liz sighed and relaxed at the feel of his fingers entering her. She opened her legs even wider so he could delve even deeper.

The thrust of his fingers started off a slow torture, then sped up. Liz's hips thrusted up to meet his plunge, her back arched off the ned in pleasure. Pleasure that seemed to multiply due to the blindfold over her eyes. Her touch sense sky rocketed.

"YES MAX! YES! OH GOD! I'M SO CLOSE!"

Quickly, he pulled his magic fingers out of her.

"Max no! don't stop!" Liz whined pulling on the silky ropes that bound her wrists from reaching him.

Max leaned in to her ear and whispered in a seductive voice thar promised of things to come.

"Don't worry, I don't intend to."

Quickly, he moved her legs apart again and entered her. He began to rock in and out of her, slowly at first so she could get accustomed to him, then he began to pump and pound into her body for all he was worth.

Liz's cries of pleasure mingled with his lustfilled moans. Liz tugged on the ropes that bound her wrists. There was no way she'd be getting out of this. There'd be no escaping of what her lover had planned for her. For the rest of the long night. But she didn't mind. She wanted him to possess her, every single inch of her.

Liz cried out his name as the first wave of her orgasm washed over her. Max arched his back and poured his seed deep within her. He continued to thrust a few more times into her, then collapsed on top of her, both out of breath and panting.

Max took off her blindfold and untied her wrists. He bent his head for a gentle kiss.

"Had enough my sweet?"

She could only give a slight nod. Truth be told, she couldn't get enough of him.

"Too bad." Max said grinning sexily at her, "That was only round one." then moved in to claim her his once again.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

A few hours later, the two well-loved lover lay spent in each others arms.

"I love you." she whispered into his ear.

"I love you too, sweet. More than you'll ever know."

"Oh I think I already know. You demonstrated pretty well a few hours ago." she grinned at him.

He kissed her lightly on her forehead, then both settled in comfortable silence, both lost in their own thoughts.

"Max?"

"What is it my love?"

"I'm really sorry I staked you last time. When we were....uh....you know....well, I got these flashes and...."

"I already know about them Liz. I got them too. I knew what you were thinking when you saw them. I knew the confusion and anguish you felt. But its over now. We're together." Max held her tighter and buried his head in her hair. He felt her shudder, and a sob escaped her lips. "Liz, why are you crying?"

"I'm sorry" she said wiping away he tears. "I don't know what I would've done if I'd lost you forever. After I..I...well, after what I did, all I felt was pain and loss. I didn't want to, but I did. I tried to hide it, to deny it, but I couldn't stop the truth. The truth that I loved you with my soul."

Max caressed Liz's wet cheeks.

"And with that love, you brought me back. And after what my father did, we're free to live the life we've always wanted, as mortals."

The sun began to rise, its signal for a brand new day, its first raise of sunbeam broke into the room and fell across the bed over the couple.

Liz smiled.

And with our love, we've created something special out of it.

Max was puzzled by his lovers words, the meaning seemed to be about something else.

Liz pushed the covers off their naked bodies and reached for his hand. She kissed it gently then placed it on her still flat belly.

"How do you feel about being a father?" she asked carefully.

Max was stunned for a moment before her words sunk in.

"You mean you're....you're...."

Liz smiled and nodded.

"That's terrific!! fabulous!! oh my god! I'm going to be a father!"

Max leaned into her belly and kissed it. He caressed her flat stomach, and was amazed that a new life that he and Liz had created out of their love was growing inside of her.

He moved up the bed again and captured her rosy red lips in a searing kiss. "Well, it's a new day for the world. But for us, its a whole new life. I love you Liz Parker."

With a whole new life ahead of them, the two lovers took each day at a time enjoying their love together.
