Liz was sitting on her bed opposite Maria. Tonight was Saturday, which meant their weekly "girls'" night. Usually they had Alex with them, but he and his father were bonding...or something. Whatever.
They'd spent the last seven hours watching movies. And although it was three in the morning, neither was tired. So they were just talking. Random, inconsequential topics. Until Maria brought up the 'ideal' question. You know the one. "What do you want in a guy? Describe your ideal guy."
That's a hard question. In fact, Liz had to think about it for a few minutes before coming up with a reasonable answer.
She licked her lips as she stared off at some invisible spot in her corner. She spoke slowly and softly as if her mind were elsewhere. "My ideal is a guy that isn't afraid to do crazy, insane things like slow dance in the rain. I want a guy that, when he knows that he loves me, has no problem showing the world what he's feeling. I want a guy that finds all my flaws and quirks endearing. Someone that wants to treat me like I'm special, like a porcelain doll, even if I'm not one. Someone that thinks I'm his universe. And.........I want a guy who, when I first meet him, makes me forget how to breathe. Makes me forget that I need to."
Maria stared at her with her mouth open in awe, her spoon of ice cream forgotten a few inches from her mouth. "Wow," she breathed. "Me, too."
The two went to sleep shortly after that, the mood no longer silly. Liz was up a little longer than Maria. Her own words echoing in her head just before she slipped into dreams.

Liz stepped gratefully into the warmth of the cafe. She was definitely not used to this Bostan cold yet. Liz hated the cold. And she also hated the fact that during this dry, winter season every single thing she touched gave her electric shocks 'It's probably because of my long hair.' she thought as she shook the snow off her hat, scarf, and coat. She hung them up on the rack behind the door before turning to address her friend. She couldn't help the small chuckle when she looked over. Maria was bundled up tight in four layers of clothing. She was wearing every imaginable item to keep herself warm, yet her nose was still as bright as Rudolph's.
"Well, we're here. Go get your bagel.....I swear, you and that stupid bagel fetish of yours."
"I can't help it! I'm just totally craving a bagel."
"You crave a bagel like three times a week!!! Anyway, go. Now."
Maria threw her a playful glare before wandering off to the back of the line. Liz stayed in front of the door of the coffee shop waiting. They did this all the time. Maria would want a bagel. Liz would wait for her. Then they'd go find the best table to sit at and chat.
As Liz was thinking, the door suddenly hit her from behind. She looked up startled and quickly moved out of the way. A dark head poked around the door cautiously. "Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hit you with the door." Oh, what a voice. It was soft and deep, yet hinted of power it could hold.
"It was my fault. Really. I was the idiot standing in front of the door."
He finally moved completely around the frame of the door as another guy pushed past them both with a gruff, "Excuse me." The gruff guy kept on going without even looking back at them. However, Liz's stranger stared at his back with a scowl. When he turned back to her, he smiled apologetically.
"You'll have to excuse Michael. He needs his caramel frappacino fix. I'd like to say that he's usually better than this....but he's really not. He's always that way."
Liz giggled softly as she stared up at him. Man, he was perfect. Everything about him was perfect, from his nice shoes to his strong, broad shoulders to his full head of great hair. But although she tried, she couldn't identify the exact color of his eyes. It was as if they didn't stay one color for more than three seconds.....What did her mother call those kind of eyes that change like that? Oh right, mood eyes. She could definitely detect a lot of brown, and a hint of green. It also appeared that he had soft flecks of yellow sprinkled in various places.
In the back of her mind, she realized that she was staring. But she couldn't make herself care. He didn't seem to be doing anything else himself.
She was about to speak when another customer bumped her shoulder as he barrelled past her, causing her to take in a gulp of air. She realized with shock that that was her first breathe since meeting this stranger.
"I'm Liz Parker."
"Max Evans."
And again with the staring thing. She couldn't help it. It was like magnetic. Her eyes were just pulled into his. They drifted unconsciously closer. They didn't even realize how close they were until it was almost to late. Max's gaze fell from hers to her lips. That's when she became aware of the minimal space between them. However, she didn't get a chance to think or do anything about it because he kissed her.
At that first contact, an electrical shock hit both of their lips causing them to pull back just slightly. Their thunderstruck gazes connected for a split second before Max grabbed her delicate face with both hands and anchored her lips to his.
And she felt an electrical shock everywhere. Like fireworks on every inch of skin. And the butterfies all simultaneously took flight inside her body.
~~~~~~
Liz sprung awoke with a gasp. She looked around her room, panting. As her breath slowed, her lips slid into a slow smile. Her fingers unconsciously moved to her lips where she still felt the electricity. "Wow." she breathed.
