Chapter 11

“She couldn’t just pick a normal costume, could she?” Michael grumbled, glaring at a group of girls who were giggling at him.

“Have you learned nothing at all, Michael?” Isabel chided, her brown eyes twinkling with mirth. “You’re only digging your own grave by acting like it bothers you.”

“Hey guys, did you see where Max and Alex went?” Liz asked curiously, scanning the crowded auditorium in hopes of spotting her boyfriend.

“No, I haven’t, Liz,” Isabel responded. “I think they went up to the stage, though.”

Liz frowned in confusion. “But why…”

A screech sounded over the PA as a microphone came on, and the students of West Roswell grimaced and placed their hands over their ears.

“If I could have everyone’s attention, please! I’d like to take the opportunity to welcome everyone to West Roswell’s annual theme dance!” Alex crowed and everyone cheered happily.

“Thank you, thank you,” Alex bowed and the students tittered at his goofiness. “We’re The Whit’s and we’ll be playing for you all tonight.”

Once again everyone erupted, clapping and yelling for Alex and his band.

“But first! We have a special dedication for a very special lady in the audience tonight!”

Isabel beamed as she batted her eyelashes at her boyfriend.

“Would Liz Parker please come out front?” Alex continued, motioning for someone offstage to come out.

Isabel’s mouth dropped open and she glanced at Liz in disbelief. Liz’s mouth hung open as well as she stared at Alex in confusion.

“What’s going on?” she asked nervously, glancing towards Isabel and Michael, who both shrugged their shoulders.

“I have no idea, but maybe you should head up there,” Michael grinned, giving her a slight push.

Liz frowned, but continued her way up front.

Everyone gasped as the lights went out, a few squeals sounded, and Liz hugged herself in anticipation.

Isabel turned questioning eyes towards Michael, but he simply nodded towards the stage.

She looked back over and her eyes practically bugged out of her head as the spotlight came up, revealing none other than a very nervous looking Max Evans holding a shining blue electric guitar.

“Um, I just want to dedicate this song to my very own Princess Leia,” he smiled shyly into the microphone and several girls sighed.

Liz stared at him, her eyes a mixture of shock and adoration.

The rest of the stage lit up, revealing the rest of The Whit’s. Maria was grinning at Liz from her spot offstage and Alex was standing to the right of Max, a smaller mike placed in front of him.

Isabel gasped at the sight of her brother and whirled towards Michael. “You knew about this?!”

Michael smirked. “Have you learned nothing at all, Isabel? I always know.”

Isabel bit her lip and turned back to watch, a small smile lifting her mouth.

Everyone cheered as Max and Alex began playing their guitars, a familiar oldies favorite sounding through the gymnasium.

Max swallowed hard and then began singing softly, his eyes holding Liz’s with so much emotion she felt her eyes burn with impending tears.

You know our love was meant to be, the kind of love that lasts forever.
And I want you here with me, from tonight until the end of time.
You should know, everywhere I go,
Always on my mind… in my heart, in my soul, baby…

Alex stepped up to the mike and began singing backup to Max’s soft, seductive voice.

You're the meaning in my life, you're the inspiration.
You bring feeling to my life, you're the inspiration.
Wanna have you near me, I wanna have you hear me sayin’…

Alex pulled back, leaving Max to croon the last part on his own, staring meaningfully at Liz.

No one needs you more than I need you…

Liz blinked against the tears that were threatening to spill from her eyes, fluttering her eyelashes adoringly at Max.

He looked beyond nervous as he stepped back to play his guitar riff, then looked back at her and it was as if his confidence built.

Alex nodded at him and he began again.

(Max) And I know...

(Alex) And I know...

(Max) Yes I know, that it's plain to see.

(Max/Alex) So in love when we're together...

(Max) Now I know...

(Alex) Now I know...

(Max) That I need you here with me...

(Max/Alex) From tonight until the end of time.

(Max) You should know...

(Alex) Yes, you need to know...

(Max/Alex) Everywhere I go
Always on my mind… you're in my heart, in my soul...
You're the meaning in my life. You're the inspiration...
You bring feeling to my life, you’re the inspiration.
Wanna have you near me, I wanna have you hear me sayin'...

(Max) No one needs you more than I.... need you… yeah…

(Alex) No one needs you more than I... oh-oh-oh-oh...

(Max/Alex) You're the meaning in my life, you're the inspiration.
You bring feeling to my life, you're the inspiration…

(Alex) When you love somebody...

(Max) 'Til the end of time...

(Alex) When you love somebody...

(Max) Always on my mind… No one needs you more than I…

As the sound of the amp dimmed, everyone burst into wild clapping and Max turned a bright shade of red, biting his lip sheepishly when Alex clapped him on the shoulder.

He glanced up at Liz and found a bright smile on her face, her hands clasped together as she cheered for him.

He immediately hopped offstage, and she ran into his arms, wanting to be engulfed in him.

He held her tightly admist the awes and shouts of approval from their classmates.

He pulled back slightly and lifted her chin so she could look him in the eyes.

“You… you did that for me?” Liz murmured incredulously.

Max blushed again and looked down at his feet. “Well… I just wanted you to do something for you and Maria said this was more romantic than flowers or candy and I had to face my fears at some point, right? I mean-“

Liz cut off his nervous babble by firmly planting her lips against his, running her fingers lovingly through his hair.

They kissed passionately, as their friends and classmates cheered.

When she finally pulled back, Max stared at her in a daze.

“Thank you,” she smiled shyly.

It was Max’s turn to grin as he pulled her back, inches away from his beckoning mouth. “No, thank you.”

Liz giggled and Max shot her a curious look. She lifted an eyebrow. “Chicago?”

Max shrugged his shoulders, laughing slightly. “I remember something about someone liking the oldies.”

Liz laughed and pulled his lips back to hers.

Chapter 12

Darkness wrapped around them like a blanket, the stars casting a faint glow over the earth. The soft sound of a radio playing drifted through the air.

Inside fogged windows, Max tangled his fingers through Liz’s hair as his mouth slanted across hers, using his hands to bring her more flush against him.

Liz moaned, her skirt riding up as she straddled his lap, and Max caught the sound of pleasure with his lips, teasing her mouth open further so he could capture her tongue.

“Max…” she gasped, when his mouth retreated to nibble her lower lip, then returned.

“Liz…”

A faint sheen of sweat shined on his chest, his shirt having been lost long moments ago amidst the craze of passion. Liz stared at each muscled ridge with fascination, lightly running her fingers along the sculpted grooves.

Max inhaled sharply, and released his breath with a hiss. His hands came to rest lightly on her hips, digging into soft flesh. “Oh God…”

Liz lifted her eyes to his. “Max, let’s lie down.”

His eyes, which moments before had been half-lidded and burning, opened wide in surprise. “Lie… lie down?” he squeaked, feeling as though he’d been clubbed over the head.

“Don’t you… want to?” her voice came out in a small whisper, her eyes gazing up at him from beneath heavy lashes.

Max swallowed, his tongue feeling thick and heavy. “I uh… well… I…” He closed his eyes, feeling decidedly ridiculous. His groin ached with arousal and his heart beat a pulse so rapid he absently wondered whether it would punch right out of his chest.

Liz’s face fell and she began to lift her leg away. “I’m sorry…” she murmured in a voice thick with embarrassment. “Wow, I can only imagine what you think of me,” she laughed softly, the sound without amusement.

Max stared at her in fascination. “Liz… what? Where are you going?” he demanded in panic as she attempted to move away from him. He caught her arm, dragging her gaze back to him.

“I just threw myself at you,” she nibbled her lip, rolling her eyes in self-directed disdain. “I wouldn’t blame you if you thought—“

Max cut her off, thrusting his hand in her hair and tugging her mouth back to his own. They both moaned. When they pulled away he gazed into her shocked eyes. He brushed the pads of his thumbs across her cheeks, eyes trailing adoringly over the contours of her face. “Baby… I didn’t mean… I want to,” he settled for, swallowing as he met her gaze. “It’s just that…”

“What, Max?” Liz breathed huskily, lashes fluttering closed as she leaned into his hand as he cupped her cheek. She turned and pressed a kiss into his palm.

“I’ve never… I’ve never done this before,” he admitted gruffly. “What if I hurt you?”

She froze, and when she glanced back up at him he was shocked to see tears glistening in her eyes. “You mean you’ve never… ever?

“I’ve never wanted to,” he shrugged, then smiled depreciatively. “Okay well… I have… but I never did anything because I guess I was waiting for someone special. As stupid as that sounds, I guess.” He looked away, a flush rising to his cheeks.

“It’s not stupid,” she whispered, tucking her finger beneath his chin and bringing his gaze back. “Max… I’ve never been with anyone either. I’ve never really wanted to. Until you.”

Her words fanned the flames gathering between them and his gaze grew dark with desire as they stared at each other in the darkness of the night. “Liz… will you let me…?”

“Let’s lie down,” she repeated, her voice darker and sultrier than before. “Be with me, Max.”

Their lips met again, and minutes later they were wrapped together on top of a blanket beneath the swaying arms of an elm tree. Max groaned, his hands caressing beneath the thin layer of her dress as he laid half across her.

“Oh… God, Max…” Liz moaned, her head lolling as he bent to kiss across her collarbone. She reached her hand down and gently urged him higher beneath her hem. “Max… touch me.”

He glanced up at her, eyes heavy-lidded and lips shiny from their wet kisses. “Are you sure?” he asked huskily, teasingly drawing circles along her upper thigh, scrunching the material of her skirt higher.

Liz gasped as she felt the cool brush of the night air. “Yes!” she breathed, tugging his head back down to hers. Max gave up with a rough groan and laid fully on top of her, his hips pressing against the juncture of her thighs and drawing a ragged sigh from them both.

He rocked gently against her, unable to keep from throwing his head back at the incredible friction and the anticipation of what was to come. Lust and love pounded a thick beat in his blood and when he glanced back down to see Liz beneath him, face flushed with similar arousal and affection, he went wild.

He sat up, straddling her as he shoved the dress over her head, leaving her clad in scant underwear. His eyes roamed over the curves of her body, and he licked his lips. “Perfect,” he whispered, reaching down to hold the plump mounds in his hands. “Fucking perfect,” he growled, and released the catch of her bra, allowing her to pour into his hands.

Liz gasped and arched into him as he bent and drew a nipple into his mouth, emitting a harsh sound of satisfaction. Her hand came to cradle his head as he suckled. “Oh, Maax… Max…”

When she arched into him a second time he sat up, breathing roughly. Keeping her eyes on him, he tugged his shirt over his head. He delighted in the way her eyes widened, then darkened at the sight of his muscled flesh.

His fingers fumbled at his zipper, and he let out a harsh sigh of relief when he finally managed to get his pants off. He quickly shucked his boxers and his erection sprang forth. As he sheathed himself with a condom from his wallet, his eyes nearly crossed from the feel of his own hand against his heated flesh.

“I love you,” he whispered raggedly, crawling over her again and gently thrusting against her slick entrance. “I… I don’t want to hurt you.”

Liz gazed up at him, her lips curving. “This is what I want, Max,” she promised, stroking the planes of his face. Soothing his troubled eyes. “I love you… and I want this.”

His lips trembled as she pulled his head down and kissed him with all the passion and desire inside of her. They both gasped when he slid inside of her, one slow inch at a time. Max’s head rested against her shoulder.

“God…” he groaned, pumping himself deeper. “You feel… so hot. And tight. And… beautiful.”

Liz couldn’t hold back a tiny gasp of pain as he thrust deeper and tore through the barrier of her virginity. He froze at the sound, then began placing kisses across her face.

“I’m sorry…”

“No, it’s okay,” she assured him, blinking against the tears. “It doesn’t hurt anymore. It just feels… really full,” she laughed softly. “God, Max… you’re inside me.”

“I’m inside you,” he whispered in agreement. “And I’m going to take you to the stars, Liz.”

With those dark words, his lips closed over her nipple and he began a delicious thrusting that soothed the aching inside of her, even as it made her crave more. She began to moan, writhing beneath him as they continued to lose themselves.

“Oh, Max… Max, I’m…” she trailed off with a sharp cry as her orgasm washed over her suddenly, her inner walls contracting around him and drawing him deeper.

Max cried out in pleasure and caught her lips in a passionate kiss as he joined her in climax. “I love you, Liz…” he whispered into the night.

Nearly done with this one guys... FINALLY!!

Chapter 13

The next day at school, Liz felt like she was walking on a cloud. Silly symbolism, she knew, but it was the only way to descrive the incredible feelings rushing through her.

She and Max had made love.

It still made her alternately blush and sigh every time she recounted the most intimate moment of her life. The memory of his hands, his mouth… his husky voice groaning into her ear as they’d both done as he’d promised – and reached the stars.

“What’s with the silly grin?”

She looked up from her locker to see Alex watching her curiously. Her cheeks burned as she bit her lip, stifling a secret smile. “Nothing,” she answered in a singsone tone. “I’m just… in a really good mood, I guess.”

Alex didn’t look satisfied. “Uh huh… okay then…” he cocked a brow and studied her from a different angle. “Something’s different about you today, Parker.”

Liz glanced up in surprise, wondering if the truth was plastered all over her face, and her eyes met a smoldering amber gaze from across the hall. Her lips parted as Max smiled slowly at her, drawing his lower lip between his teeth before the moment was broken by one of his friends walking up to him.

“Liz?”

She shook her head, struggling to focus on Alex. “What did you say?” she asked breathlessly, eyes darting back every few seconds as she tracked Max’s progress towards her. She fought the ridiculous urge to smooth her hair and check her breath.

Before Alex could answer, Max approached. “Hey Alex,” he rumbled in a low tone that sent chills dancing across her skin as he trained his gaze onto her. “Liz…” he added with a smile that bespoke of sultry moans and heated hands.

“Hi, Max,” she replied softly, nibbling her lip in nervous excitement as he practically devoured her with his intense gaze.

“Do you two want to be alone so you can moon and drool in private?” Alex joked, breaking the hypnotic spell. “I’m starting to feel like I need a note from a parent to watch this.”

Liz flushed furiously while Max growled goodnaturedly. “Get outta here, Whitman,” he laughed, reaching over to drag Liz closer to him. “My sister’s looking for you.”

Alex slapped a hand against his forehead and groaned dramatically. “I forgot… she wanted me to take her and her friends to the mall after school.”

Max smiled wickedly. “Have fun, Whitman. Make sure you bring a barf bag.”

Alex flipped him off before leaving with a grumble. Liz looked up from beneath her lashes once she realized that they were alone. Well, as alone as was possible in a crowded hallway.

“So,” she cleared her throat gently, moving aside as a group of kids came racing down the corridor.

“So.” Max stared at her through heavy lids that did nothing to disguise the fact that he was vividly remembering the previous evening. “You look beautiful.”

“Thank you,” she giggled, pushing a lock of hair behind her ear. Neither of them spoke for a long moment.

“Is this weird?” Max whispered, leaning close to lay an arm against her locker in order to give them a semblance of privacy.

“Weird?” Liz repeated, swallowing nervously. “No, I just… don’t know what to say, really.”

“How about… last night was the best night of my life” he answered quietly, reaching out to stroke a finger down her cheek. “You were… amazing.”

“So were you,” she smiled softly. “Max, I—“

“Hey, guys.”

They both glanced over to see Kyle standing there, a nervous look on his face. Max fought the urge to roll his eyes, still feeling lingering pangs of resentment towards the other boy. “Valenti,” he managed politely, “what can we do for you?”

Liz immediately clued in to Kyle’s expression. “What happened?” she asked in concern, stepping away to touch his arm. “Kyle?”

“Listen guys…” he stopped and cleared his throat. “There’s something I need to tell you.”

His dire tone of voice did not escape either of their attention, and Max and Liz exchanged curious gazes. “What is it?” Max asked.

Kyle took a deep breath, then blurted out, “It’s Tess.”

***

“You did what?” Max roared, stepping forward to launch himself at Kyle as they all huddled together in the cramped eraser room.

“Max, stop it!” Liz jumped between them, glaring at her boyfriend as he glared at Kyle. “Calm down, right now.”

“Liz, he just said he was helping her break us up,” Max spat, eyes fierce as he watched Kyle. “What was in it for you, Valenti? You thought once I was out of the picture, Liz would go for you?

“Yeah,” Kyle mumbled humbly. “I’m so sorry, Liz.”

“You didn’t go through with it,” Liz said softly, drawing two surprised gazes. “Kyle… you did what you did because you didn’t want to see me get hurt. Even if your concern was unwarranted, you did it with good intentions.”

Max snorted, gaining another sharp glance from Liz. But Kyle merely shook his head.

“He’s right, Liz. I did it for completely selfish reasons,” he said in a shamed voice. “I wanted you, and I talked myself into believing that if you could just see past… well, that you would want me. But I was wrong, and I’m sorry.”

“Apology accepted,” Liz said briskly. “Now, tell me what’s happened.”

Kyle’s face grew grim. “I was keeping an eye on Tess at the dance… making sure she wouldn’t try to start anything. Well, she disappeared for a good hour in this old warehouse. When she came back out, it was obvious she had been… well…”

“Fucking around?” Max filled in crudely, disgust evident in his tone. “I wouldn’t be surprised.”

“Well, when the guy followed her out… they got into it,” Kyle continued. “Tess slapped him and he threw her into a wall. They kept smacking each other around for a few minutes, and then went their separate ways.”

Max’s brow furrowed. “What does this have to do with us? Isn’t it a good thing that she’s moved on… or whatever?”

“I don’t know,” Kyle worried his lip. “I just don’t think she’d give up that easily, Max. I feel like she’s up to something.”

“I agree,” Liz added softly. “Something’s not right about her, Max. She… she gives me the creeps.”

“Whatever she tries, it won’t work,” Max said firmly. “We’re onto her. We know what to expect.”

Just then, the door was thrown open to reveal a stern-faced principal and two uniformed policemen. The three stared in shock as a group of murmuring students crowded behind the open door.

“Maxwell Evans?” the taller of the two officers queried in a strident tone.

“Yes?” Max asked curiously, then felt his stomach sink when the men parted to reveal Tess, face blackened with bruises and a quivering split lip. She looked terrible, but he caught a glint of triumph in her blue eyes as she stared at him.

“We need you to come with us,” the other cop stated. “For questioning.”

“Questioning?” he demanded in a hard tone, his gaze not leaving Tess’s. “For what?”

“For the assault and rape of Tess Harding.”

Okay, this story is done (THANK GOD!!!)

I'll be posting the rest of the parts over the rest of the day, because well... I'm slightly anxious to get it done and out of the way. To anyone still reading this... I'm amazed and thank you for it. This was the second fic I ever posted here, and it's taken three years for me to get around to finishing. I'm not all that proud of it... but I guess I don't hate it either.

Sorry if this stuff sounds bad, it was all written before I bought a clue and instead of rewriting it I simply edited. Enjoy!

hugs,

Linds

Chapter 14

Liz stared in horror as the cops moved forward to take Max away. She caught Tess’s eye and anger filled her at the evil pleasure in the blonde’s expression. She opened her mouth to protest, but no sound came out.

Luckily, Kyle didn’t have the same problem. “That’s bullshit,” he said harshly. “She’s lying.”

The lead cop halted, piercing him with a dark frown. “Young man, this is a serious accusation. Unless you have proof, do not toy with us.”

“What proof do you have?” Liz cried out, stepping forward and laying her hand on Max’s still frame. “When did this supposed… rape,” she barely refrained from spitting the word out, “take place?”

The two cops exchanged grim glances. “Ma’am, we really need to take this to the station. We’re not arresting your boyfriend, we’re simply taking him in for questioning.”

“You’re humiliating him in front of his peers,” she shot back heatedly, ignoring Max’s low murmur of her name.

“Liz, it’s okay,” he said gently, stepping away from her. “I’m going with them.” He met Tess’s gaze squarely, not batting a lash. “I have nothing to hide.”

She stared back, and a hint of fear crept into her blue gaze before her lips began to quiver again. She made a low sound and was immediately taken into a teachers arms, who led her away from the spectacle.

Max clenched his jaw, determined not to react to Tess’s obvious ploy. He couldn’t quite believe she would go this far just on jealous anger, but now he had to concentrate on proving himself innocent.

There would be time later for recompensation.

“I’m going, too,” Liz stated, daring the principal and other teachers to contradict her. “I have something to add to this demented story.”

“So do I,” Kyle said just as a shout was heard down the hallway. They all looked over to see the rest of the group skidding across the floor.

“What the hell’s going on?” Michael boomed out, his eyes bugging as he caught sight of Max in the grip of the officers.

“Max?” Isabel whispered, obviously confused until she caught sight of Tess. “You bitch!” she cried out. “What did you do?”

“Miss Evans, you will watch your language in this facility,” Principal Sanderson said tightly. “And all of you will dispense immediately and head back to your classes. This is not an exhibition at the fair.”

Several of the teachers began rounding up students and sending them on their way, even as they reluctantly wanted to stay behind. Maria and Alex put up a loud fight, but eventually were carted off, too.

“You all must have permission from your parents before you leave the premises,” the principal stated, even though a hint of sympathy lurked in his eyes. No one wanted to believe that Max was capable of the abuse done to Tess.

Thirty minutes later, five teens rode in two police vehicles towards the police station. Liz held Max’s hand tightly as they stared into each other’s eyes.

“Max, why would she…” she trailed off, nibbling her lip. “I don’t understand. This is all my fault… if I hadn’t come and upset things…”

“She’s crazy,” Kyle muttered, shifting in his seat. “This is all my fault. I… I should have guessed she would do something like this.”

“Shut up,” Max mumbled, glaring at both of them. “This is Tess’s fault. Christ, she’s done this sort of thing before. Well, not this severe… but it’s completely her style.”

No one said anything else until they were inside the station, walking down the corridor to an interviewing room. Max winced slightly at the scene right out of a bad thriller – the single plastic chair behind the long, thin table where a uniformed cop sat.

“Have a seat, Mr. Evans,” the man said politely.

For the next thirty minutes, the details of Tess’s accusation were illustrated, and Max felt himself growing more and more angry. She had basically described him as a violent ex-boyfriend who had dumped her for another woman, then changed his mind and wanted her back. When she had refused, he’d beat her until she’d given in.

“Fuck,” he mumbled, rubbing his eyes.

“Am I to understand this is completely unsubstantiated?” the officer inquired. “Mr. Evans… this is a very serious case. Rape can result in cell time, and you’re over the age that would send you to juvenile.”

“It’s all a lie,” he stated baldly. “I mean… yes, we dated… but I never touched her. Never.”

The cop studied him for a long moment, and whatever he saw must have pleased him. “Where were you last night, around midnight?” he asked, consulting the paperwork before him.

Max opened his mouth, then bit his tongue as he recalled the others in the room. “I was… um…”

“He was with me,” Liz spoke up firmly, ignoring the looks of surprise that Michael, Kyle and Isabel shot her. “He was with me until he took me home around five o’clock. I’d be willing to leave a statement, sir. What time did she claim all this happened?”

“Around midnight,” the officer sighed. “And yes, I’ll need a statement from you.”

“Take one from me, too,” Kyle stepped forward. “Sir, she’s lying. I saw her with a guy last night, but it sure as hell wasn’t Evans. I have no reason to lie to you… I can barely stand the guy myself.”

The officer quirked a brow while Max rolled his eyes. “What were you doing following Ms. Harding?”

Kyle flushed. “She sort of… threatened that she would do something like this,” he admitted. “I never thought she’d take it this far… but I wanted to keep an eye out anyway. She tried to use me against Liz, who I assumed would be the target. I… she’s lying.”

“Max would never hurt anyone,” Isabel added. “Even that skanky ho.”

“Thanks Iz,” Max winced.

“This is complete bullshit,” Michael grumbled. “I swear to God, I’m going to wring that girl’s…” He trailed off when the cop cleared his throat. “Never mind.”

“If this is all true, then Miss Harding’s looking at some serious grounds herself. Crying rape isn’t a practical joke” his voice hardened. “We’ll look into this, and if you are telling the truth… you have the right to press charges.”

“I know, my father’s a lawyer,” Max stated grimly. “And you can bet your ass I will."
