Summary: Liz reflects over her life and how she got to the point where she is now. I’m not saying exactly what the other show is that this crossovers with, but it’ll become apparent.

Note: I normally don’t write one parters but this idea wouldn’t leave my head. However I decided I didn’t want to do it as one of the long sagas I normally go for. I just didn’t think I was a good enough writer to do the characters justice so I wrote it this way. It still may suck but I had to write it. I hope you like it.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

It was late, so late that as Liz walked down the long corridors at her work, her shoes clicked and clattered along the cement floor. She had only run into a hand full of people as she had headed from her office to her destination, which was typical for the night shift. While the facility never closed, there was down time. Of course most of the time Liz worked so hard and long that she lost track of time even days. Being in an office with no windows did that to a person.

Nevertheless, Liz loved her work. She had wanted to be a scientist since she could remember but she never thought her dreams would lead her to where she was. The work was cutting-edge and progressive, and Liz could honestly say that she was only one of a handful of people in the world who was doing the work she was. It was the biggest incentive for working in a highly dangerous environment.

Liz finally reached the office she had been walking to and headed inside. The door was open, it always was, and Liz leaned against the frame. It was not the original location of his office that one had been given back to its original owner when he returned. Now it was a room that was uniquely his. One that despite the sterile design of the room, the furnishings and odds and ends inside made it warm and comforting. At least to Liz it was, she spent almost as much time there as she did in her own office. And it was because of the current occupant.

A smile twitched at the corners of her lips as she watched him work. He had the TV on in the background, the weather channel on as was normal. He had a fascination with the weather but it wasn’t what he was focused on. Instead his attention was drawn to a multitude of books, scattered papers and artifacts in front of him. Liz could tell he was working hard, the pencil clutched between his teeth told her that much and she felt bad for interrupting him so she kept quiet. But he noticed her anyway. It wasn’t a surprise, he noticed everything.

His bright green eyes seemed to brighten even more as they rose to look at her and he took the pencil out of his mouth to smile. “Hey…”

“Hey, I wrapped things up in my lab and wanted to see where you were at.” Liz said, coming farther into the room and sitting on one of the stools.

He glanced over at the clock to check the time. “I didn’t even realize it was that late.”

“We’ve been here for almost three days, so I thought it’d be a good idea to sleep in our own bed rather than one of the rooms here.” Liz stated.

“Sounds like a good idea. Give me a few minutes and we can go.”

Liz smiled, “No rush.”

While she waited, Liz thought about what had gotten her to where she was. Things in her life took a big turn when Max blasted off with Tess and their child to Antar. Liz mourned him, and the demise of what they had as well as the fury that came from knowing that Tess escaped after murdering Alex. She, Kyle, and Maria were unable to get to the granolith in time to inform them of Tess’s betrayal so they were forced to watch them blast off into the sky.

Over the next few months, life slowly returned to the way it had been before the shooting. Well as much as it could considering that Alex was dead and that they remaining members of the group still possessed the knowledge that life existed elsewhere. And it didn’t help that both Liz and Kyle started to develop powers from Max healing them. Luckily they were able to learn control them quickly plus by using a few basic blood tests, Liz was able to figure out that they hadn’t been changed into hybrids, merely evolved humans. Something that became important later on.

Despite her new abilities, Liz became ever more determined to reach her dreams and go to Harvard. Because she had had a slight detour in her studies, Liz was unable to scour admission into Harvard but did go to Northwestern. With a small scholarship and the money from her family, Liz was able to solely focus on her studies and got her degree in three and a half years. She kept going until she finally got her doctorate.

Despite her young age and practice, Liz quickly made a name for herself and was recognized in the science community. That was how she got the job she was at now. She had been recruited for top-secret work by the government, something that completely surprised and scared her. A thousand thoughts ran through her head at the time, did they know about her experience with the aliens? Was it a ploy to get her and study her?

With those thoughts in mind, Liz tried to find out what she could about why they were interested in her. In the end, she found out that they wanted her simply for her brain and nothing else. So although she had not been told all of her duties at the beginning, Liz had taken the offer. And she was never more thankful that she had. She had a job she loved, and it was through that job that she met the man she was in love with.

Six months after starting her new position Liz was working late, again, and found herself starving and in need of more coffee. So she went to the canteen. The choices were meager but she was able to get a leftover sandwich and coffee before sitting down. The table area was empty save for one. And since Liz thought she had been cooped up in her lab for too long by herself and made the decision to get some company, so she headed over and made small talk.

Liz had never spoken a word to him before, only seen him around but everyone on the base knew Jonas Quinn, a member of the elite SG-1 and one of the resident aliens at the SGC. She had heard that he was highly intelligent, thought he was very cute and had always wanted to talk to him so she took it as a sign and did just that.

Jonas acted surprised when she sat down, not that he hadn’t known she was in the room, just that she had come over to talk to him. She had plopped down across from him before sticking her hand out in introduction. He had returned her shake, told her his name although it wasn’t necessary and they started chitchatting. Nothing deep or serious, just talking as they ate. When they were done and had to get back to work, they parted like old friends.

Over the next month, Liz and Jonas ran into each other several times in the canteen, averaging twice a week and each time when they were alone they sat together and talked. They talked about their childhoods, what his planet Langara was like, and their work. Liz had not yet been through the gate, new scientists had to work at the SGC for a six month probationary period before they did but she was on the list to start joining the rotation.

Jonas was the next one to present a surprise and it came in the form of asking her to dinner, in an actual restaurant off the base. He made a suggestion, a restaurant that Liz recognized in Colorado Springs. Considering that Jonas lived on base and rarely left, Liz knew he had had to ask someone, probably one of the other members from his team like Colonial O’Neil or Major Carter, for the name of a restaurant. That one small display of thoughtfulness meant a lot to Liz and she said yes. Not that she wouldn’t have anyway.

Their first ‘date’ started with Liz, in plain clothes, picking Jonas up at the base since he didn’t know how to drive. He met her topside so that she wouldn’t have to travel inside of the mountain and Liz couldn’t help but blush slightly when she got a look at him in something other then his fatigues. It was just a simplistic black button down over khaki’s with a black leather coat but he looked really really good. He said something similar to her too causing her to blush more before they headed to dinner.

At first, dinner was quiet partially nerves and partially given the fact that they were in a public area where they had to limit some of their conversation. They couldn’t exactly talk about aliens, other planets and the Stargate program in the middle of the Italian restaurant. But then the proverbial ice was broken and things were back to the way they had been before.

At the end of the night, Liz was disappointed to see it was over. She had enjoyed the date very much, she found herself liking Jonas more and more. It was nice to talk to someone who understood the concepts behind her work but wasn’t totally obsessed by it either. She had dated a guy when she was just out of college who fell into the latter category and it hadn’t lasted long. So she was very happy when Jonas suggested that they go out again, even mentioning trying out some ‘Earth’ activities. Jonas acted so cute when he was doing it that before she knew Liz found herself leaning over and kissing him. It was fleetingly and chaste by any means but still warm and tender. Another less chaste one followed before the date ended and Jonas went back into the base.

As time went by and Liz and Jonas continued to see each other, they kept it low key when on base. True they were both civilians and therefore did not have to abide by the rule of not having intimate relations with subordinates and people knew about them but they didn’t think it’d be smart to wave it in people’s faces either. So they made up for it during the times they were off base occasionally. Liz showed Jonas the entertainment Earth had to offer. The movies, miniature golf, going to ball games, ice skating, Liz even taught him how to drive.

Despite the fact that the Stargate program and the originality of the work involved was what made Liz accept her job and love it, she began to fear it too. Not for herself, she loved going through the gate but for Jonas. From the information she had read and heard even from Jonas himself, SG-1 had a tendency to find trouble and she was worried every time he went through that she wouldn’t see him again. It was how she became conscious of the fact that she was starting to really care for Jonas. Deeply care for him as more then a casual relationship.

However while her future was looking good, it seemed that her past was intent on coming back to haunt her. After an initial survey of PX3-S71 was done, SG-1 and several scientists including Liz were sent to take samples and study the new planet while SG-1 was to investigate the area for civilization. But before they could go wander far from the gate, a group of soldiers approached them. They did not appear hostile, only cautious. They did not look human, only had a vague shape of a humanoid but were surrounded by a yellow glow. They also did not speak English but communicated well enough to tell the humans that they were to follow them.

They were led out of the valley they were currently in, and when they reached the edge of the cliff, saw the ruins of a what was once a magnificent city. It wasn’t completely abandoned, it looked like it was in the process of slowly being rebuilt to be more accurate. They were lead into one of the largest and ornate buildings and once inside they saw that it was a palace.

When they were inside the entrance hall, the lead soldier disappeared into one of the rooms. After what seemed like forever, he reappeared and motioned for them to enter. SG-1 took the lead with the scientists following, so it took a few minutes for Liz to see the leaders who were at the front. And when she did, she could hardly believe when she saw that it was Max, Isabel, and Michael. They gave no indication of seeing her, instead Max stood and began introductions.

Everyone except for Liz was surprised that he spoke English but said nothing as he introduced himself as King Zan, his sister Vilandra, and his second in command Rath. Colonial O’Neil told him why they were there as well as introduce his team along with the scientists. Liz tried to fade into the background but was unable to when Max finally spotted her, cutting off the Colonial by calling her name. Everyone’s attention was then on Liz, those from the SGC and the aliens but it was Jonas’s attention that she was most aware of.

Deciding to put out the biggest fire out first, Liz asked Max if there was someplace private that she could talk with her friends. She could tell that he understood why she asked for the time, and quickly dismissed himself and everyone else from the room. Realizing that she was in the spotlight and no way out of it, Liz finally told them everything. She started with the shooting, about how she found out about the aliens, and then kept going until she told him about the two years that followed. She left out most of the romantic part of her relationship with Max, instead simply implying that they were good friends.

Everyone in the group, Colonial O’Neill especially asked constant questions as Liz finished explaining about her powers and how they emerged after the aliens left. She even gave them a small display, changing the molecular structure of a few things. When she finished, she focused on Jonas as she waited for everyone’s reaction. They were all clearly stunned that Liz had had so much prior dealings with beings from another planet before becoming a civilian member of the SGC and most especially that no one knew about it.

Liz told them that she expected it to all be reported back to General Hammond, the SGC’s commandeer and that she figured that she would be disciplined for holding back information. Colonial O’Neill agreed, but stated that it would be work in her favor if she could use her acquaintanceship with the leaders of the planet to persuade them to work with SG-1. The planet was in disorder but it was obvious that they had an advanced culture. Liz said she would talk to them but considering that Max had been abducted by the Special Unit and tortured by the government, he might be a little less then accommodating.

With that agreed upon Liz set to search out Max when Jonas’s hand on her arm stopped her. She had not forgotten about him but had figured that he would want some time to think before they talked. But instead, he wanted to talk now. The first question he had asked was if she and Max had been involved. She answered him truthfully, telling him that she had been in love with Max but that it was a long time ago. Too much had happened for her to still wish for him, including Jonas himself.

It figured that the first time Liz was able to tell him how she felt, it was on another planet, which happened to be ruled by her ex-boyfriend. But Jonas was very understanding about it all even that she had kept it from him. It made their relationship all the more peculiar, an alien living on Earth dating a human who had been changed by another alien. Two people that didn’t quite fit with the others.

With things settled with Jonas, Liz went to talk to Max. She found him one room over with Michael and Isabel. All at once, all four of them started firing off questions until finally they all calmed down and started talking more sensibly. Liz managed to get the first question first and that was what had happened to the three of them after they left in the granolith with Tess. Max explained that they found out about Tess’s duplicity as soon as they landed on Antar and were greeted by Kivar’s troops. They had picked up the energy from the Granolith and knew that someone was arriving. That was when the other three found out that Tess, by ways of Nasedo, had arranged a deal with Kivar, amnesty in exchange for the heir to the throne. So Michael, Max, and Isabel were led away to a prison cell while Tess went with Kivar to the palace.

Shortly after their imprisonment, followers of the last King Zan found out that the recreated royals were back on Antar and decided to break them out of Kivar’s custody. They were successful and were able to escape into the rebellion camps that were set up around the world. At the war was still going strong even after so many years, it has only ended shortly before Liz and the other humans and they were in the process of rebuilding. Kivar was dead, as was Tess. As for Max’s son, he was with his father but was still adjusting. Tess had not been the most nurturing mother and the child’s physical needs were taken care of but his emotional ones were ignored.

Michael’s first question was about Maria, wanting to know how she was. Liz hated to hurt him but she had to tell him that she was now living in New York with a semi-lucrative singing career and living with her old boyfriend, Billy. She also told them that Valenti had gotten his position back as Sheriff after Hansen made a horrific mess of the Crash Festival. And that Kyle had gone to junior college before moving to Sante Fe and becoming a police officer like his father and getting married. Then the subject switched to Liz herself and how she had ended up on Antar with a military team. She explained about graduating to North Western and going to work with the SGC.

At first they were mad that Liz would work for the government but after Liz explained things especially how the SGC dealt with the aliens they came into contact with, they appeared to understand. Then Liz told them that the SGC would like to form a tentative agreement. Considering the appearance of the area, the SGC could offer supplies and such while exchanging some of their technology. Max was unsure in the beginning but then said that it was something to consider.

Max asked if Liz would be willing to continue to act as liaison but she told him that she would rather not. Besides the fact that her job was that of a scientist, not a diplomat, she didn’t think it would be good for her current relationship if she were to work so closely to Max. Max was surprised to hear her talk about having a boyfriend and Liz saw the instant that he realized who exactly she was involved with. She wasn’t quite sure how he figured it out, but he just knew. When they were done talking, they met up with SG-1 and set up a scheduled time for them to come back for more formal negotiations.

Things between Jonas and Liz developed into more after Jonas found out about Liz’s past. There were still the worries Liz had that something would happen to Jonas when he went through the gate, like when SG-1 went to Abydos and fought Anubis’s troops but it was a part of it all. When Daniel Jackson descended, she thought he might go back to Langara to help re-establish peace but he chose to stay with the SGC, although he traveled back many times, with Liz, to help where he could.

The first time that Jonas traveled to Roswell with Liz, Jonas couldn’t believe the way it was decorated. Liz had warned him but seeing it was quite a different story. He found the humor in it, but it was still strange considering he himself was considered an alien. They were visiting during the UFO convention so he got to see Roswell and the alien fanatics in all their glory. He enjoyed it thoroughly and Liz’s parents loved Jonas. They didn’t know where he came from of course but could see that he was man who was smitten with their daughter. An intelligent man who had a good head on his shoulders although there were times when he had a certain naiveté about him.

Shortly after returning from Roswell, Liz noticed that more and more of Jonas’s things started finding their way to her apartment. She didn’t mind at all, it made things easier when he spent the night there. As a matter of fact, it became so comfy that one night over dinner Liz asked him if he wanted to take up a more permanent residence there. Until then, he had still had simple quarters at the SGC but it didn’t offer much privacy. He was surprised by her offer, but agreed passionately by kissing her. It was a big step for both of them but both met the challenged head on. That was how they got to the point that they were at now.

There was really no question in Liz’s mind that Jonas was the man for her, the one she would happily spend the rest of her life with. They weren't married, neither by Earth or Jonas’s people’s traditions but they acted much like a married couple. Colonial O’Neil often teased him about how the ‘wife’ was. But nothing about their relationship so far had been traditional, so why should they start now?

Jonas’s eyes popped up suddenly and caught her staring at him. “What?”

“Huh? Oh nothing. Just thinking.” Liz stated.

“Must have been something good by the smile on your face.” Jonas said as he turned the TV off.

“It was, it was about you.” Liz explained. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” Jonas said before giving her a brief kiss. “Let’s go home.”

“An army of Jaffa couldn’t keep me away.” Liz said as she took his hand and headed out the door.

THE END

**Note: I know that there aren’t a lot of Jonas Quinn fans out there and at first, I was right there with you. I didn’t like the idea of him replacing Daniel either. I have been a fan of Stargate for years but it wasn’t until recently that I was able to get caught up. Well almost caught up. I’ve seen every episode up to the end of S6 and the last few episodes of S7. And when I watched the S6 DVDs, despite myself I found myself liking Jonas. He just was a breath of fresh air. And while I was ecstatic when Daniel came back, I was sorry to see Jonas go. Anyways, I’m rambling. I hope you guys liked this story. I just had this thought that Jonas and Liz made a pretty good couple. Of course I’m always pairing Liz up with different guys so that’s not say much. Thanks for reading.

I also have a slightly different version of this story, would you guys like to read it too?**

Zevrillion wrote:Great story. Loved the pairing. As for not liking Jonas that was never my case. Sometimes I think it would have been better if he stayed at SGC.

I really think this was a good story so I have to ask if you are going to write any more Roswell/Stargate crossovers. I have loved all your other stories, but you haven’t written any Roswell/Stargate before this so I would love to see a full length Roswell/Stargate crossover.

As for the different version it would hurt to read it so please post it.
I'm glad I'm not the only Jonas lover. It's just when I was looking through Stargate fic, there was almost none with Jonas so I got the feeling that he wasn't well received.

As for more stories, I have thought of ideas, hence the challenge that panther2002 took, but I"m not sure if I could do the characters right. Well mainly Jack O'Neil. I'm a smartass, a major one at that but he puts me to shame and I don't know if I could pull him off. Plus, now since I've posted this story and my challenge, I'm finding myself without an idea for a story. If you have any suggestions, I'd be willingly to listen.

So here's the other version. There's not a huge difference, just a few paragraphs but here it is. It works a little bit more with the Stargate canon.

But while the fears of what would happen to Jonas were well founded, it ended up that it was while he was in the SGC that she came the closest to losing Jonas. It was some time after SG-1 returned from the planet where Nirrti had set up a new base to start her experimentations when the consequences of the mission became apparent with Jonas. He started having flashes; flashes of what he soon figured out were visions of the future. He was a human who had supernatural powers, much like Liz herself. But unlike her own powers, these ones came with a price, a tumor in Jonas’s brain that Dr. Frasier said if it wasn’t removed would kill him.

Liz felt incredibly guilty during Jonas’s suffering; she had not yet told him about her powers and how she came about them. She stayed by his bedside, contemplating whether to tell him or not. She did not want to add to his affliction. Nevertheless she did not want to loose him without him knowing the truth. But before she could tell him, Dr. Frasier ordered her to one of the spare quarters to rest.

Since it had been days since Liz had slept other then a few catnaps in one of the chairs, Dr. Frasier had stated that she was exhausted and need rest. Liz pleaded with her to let her sleep in one of the empty infirmary beds, which the good doctor approved with the condition that Liz take a mild sedative. Liz did and fell asleep very quickly and deeply. So deeply did she sleep that she did not hear the commotion when Jonas collapsed. Instead she awoke to see Jonas’s bed empty and expected the worse.

After a few minutes of hysteria, Major Carter was finally able to calm Liz down and explain to her that Jonas had taken a turn for the worse and had been taken immediately to surgery. Liz felt like smacking herself for allowing herself the luxury of sleeping while Jonas had pushed himself to have another vision, which pushed him too far. She paced and paced, trying to edge closer and closer to the door that would take her to the OR but Major Carter made sure that she didn’t.

As they waited, they did receive word that the last vision that Jonas had had turned out to be true and ended up saving SG-1 and SG-15 from an ambush. Liz knew that when, not if Jonas woke up, he’d be pleased to know that he had helped save lives. Hours later, Dr. Frasier finally emerged to tell them that Jonas was going to be okay. But just to satisfy herself, Liz asked to see him. She was allowed to see him and had to bit back tears of relief when she did.

When Jonas was conscious and healthy enough, he was released from the infirmary to his quarters. Once he was comfortable, Jonas noticed that something was bothering Liz and asked her about it. Realizing that she was in the spotlight and no way out of it, Liz finally told Jonas everything. She started with the shooting, about how she found out about the aliens, and then kept going until she told him about the two years that followed.

Jonas listened patiently, not asking any questions until after Liz finished explaining about her powers and how they emerged after the aliens left. And when he did start to ask, they were simple questions based on curiosity. Once Liz gave him as much information that she had, she asked if he could forgive her for keeping it from him. He told her that he wasn’t sure and that he needed to think about it.

Liz left him to rest and think and herself to begin worrying again, this time that he might end things with her. But an hour or so later, he showed up at her lab to talk. Jonas was very understanding about it all even that she had kept it from him. It made their relationship all the more peculiar, an alien living on Earth dating a human who had been changed by another alien. Two people that didn’t quite fit with the others.

They didn’t know where he came from of course but could see that he was an intelligent man who was smitten with their daughter.
