It was a cold spring night in the small town of Roswell, New Mexico. The kind of night that made you wonder why spring is so cold in reallity, but in movies it is always portrayed as being warmer than winter. On this particular night, three teenagers decided to visit a local club. Alex and Isabel, who had been together for several months now, were kissing each other in the back seat of the car. Max, the oldest of the group was upfront driving. He glanced at them through the rear veiw mirror. A feeling of loneliness arrose in him. It had been about a month since his last girlfriend had left him. He sighed and continued on driving.
The group arrived at The Edge Night Club, a club set up for underage kids to hang out. As they exited the car Isabel looked to Max and said "Hey, there's a perfect girl out there for you. Maybe she's inside." "Thanks, but I don't think love's the path for me. Thanks for trying anyway." said Max. They entered the club. It was pretty crowded, the group was almost instantly seperated. Alex and Isabel had run off to the other side of the room, Max understood why. He had spent quite a bit of time with them since Grace left him, and he understood that they needed some space. So he just walked around looking for a familliar face. Then at one of the tables he saw a girl that was in his TV production class at school. She was sitting by herself. He had always wanted to talk to her , but never had the courage to approach her. Then he thought about what Isabel had said. It was as good a time as ever so he started to walk towards the table, his heart started to pound from the nervous anxiety.
He introduced himself and asked if he could sit down. She said "Sure, hi I'm Elizabeth, but please call me Liz. Hey aren't you in my TV Production class?" He looked at her, and paused a moment, she had hazel eyes that he could stare into forever, they were brought out even more through her porcelin face and dark brown hair. He knew he didn't want to hurt himself again, but she was so beutiful, and what if she was the one. "Yeah, seventh period right!" replied Max, trying to sound like she had just sparked his memory. "So, do you like it in seventh period?" asked Max. "I don't know." she replied "Everyone that sits around me seems so geeky, so I just sit there and keep to myself. It gets kinda boring." "I'm sorry, I guess thats what we get for taking a technical class." said Max. "Hey, we have that group project coming up, would you, maybe, I don't know, want to work with me on it?" "Sure" she replied "You seem cool, here's my number, call me when you want to start." She pulled a piece of paper out of her purse and wrote her number down. Then she gave it to him.
They casually talked about interests in music, entertainment, and views on society for a while. Max was surprised to find that she had the same veiws on people as he did. He was also amazed by her astounding intellect, which could come up with answers even crazier than Max's questions about society. He talked to her until Alex and Isabel came and got him. "It's getting kinda late." said Isabel. "OK" replied Max " Its been great talkin to ya, I look forward to working on the project together." "I look forward to it too." said Liz. "Call me." And with that they left.
"So I see you met a girl!" said Isabel excitedly "What'd I tell you?" "Take it easy, she's in my TV production class and we're gonna work on a project together. God she's beutiful though!" Max said. They got in the car and went home. Max dropped Alex and Isabel off, then continued on to his house. He entered the dark entryway and slowly made his way back to his room. He closed the door behind him and fell onto his bed. He couldn't stop thinking about her. It was like Liz was even more perfect for him than Grace was. He just laid there thinking about the nights events untill he finally fell asleep.
He woke up the next morning and rushed off to school. He saw Liz again in class. This time they sat together and discussed their ideas for their project. A community service announcement on how to get a job. Max loved every idea that Liz had. She was so smart, so brilliant. They continued on with project for a couple weeks. Then turned it in for an easy A.
They started work on another project. A music video. He was supposed to film a couple of her dance moves for the video. While she was showing them to him she fell into his arms. "Do you love me?" she asked. He didn't reply, but slowly and gently kissed her. She looked at him and kind of smiled at him as she said "You're the first person to ever kiss me." "You've got to be kiding me, your so beutiful and smart, and and cool. You must have been kissed before." Max said startlingly. "Nope, maybe I'm not so beutiful, maybe you just see me through rose tinted eyes." she replied "My eyes see only what is real, god! how could you say that about yourself? You are by far, one of the most beutiful girls I've ever seen." He replied. "You're so sweet, wrong, but sweet." she argued. Not wanting to waste his time arguing over something that he was so obviously right about, he just looked at her and smiled. They didn't work on the project for the rest of the day. They were too pre-occupied with each other to work. Max knew that he had found the girl that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, and she saw this in him.
The next day the two had planned to go to the movies. Max showed up to Liz's house a little early, she was ready to go anyway. So they headed out to the car when Liz suddenly dropped to her knee, put her hand over her heart and quietly wispered "No, not now damnit.""Are you okay?" asked Max. She didn't reply, she just sat there waiting for the pain in her chest to subside. Max quickly ran to her side and tried to assist in any way he possibly could, but he could do nothing because he didn't know what was wrong. She finally got up and said "Sorry about that, every now and then I get these pains in my chest. Don't worry I'll be allright." "Are you sure? You should probably get that checked out." Said Max, whose heart rate was now beating faster than it ever had before. "Don't worry about it, it's nothing." She replied. But Max was worried, he had only known the love of his life for several weeks and couldn't stand to lose her now. "Do you want to just stay here and watch a movie?" Asked Max. "Sure." She answered. So they just stayed at Liz's house and watched a movie. Max couldn't stay concentrated on the movie, he was too worried about Liz. She meant everything to him, she was his future, and he knew he couldn't live without her.
The movie ended and Max kissed Liz as he left. A few minutes later Liz's heart acted up again, this time the pain was so bad that she passed out. She woke up in the morning and left for school. "Max can never know about this." She silently moaned to herself.
Later that day she walked towards her classroom, her heart started to act up again, but she continued on her way to class. She entered the doorway to see that Max was already there waiting for her. He smiled up at her, she smiled back, then her eyes shut as she collapsed to the floor. "Oh my god, call an ambulance!" Max yelled. The ambulance came and rushed her off to the hospital. Max loyally followed the ambulance to the emergency room. He stayed out of the way as the paramedics tried to revive her. They got her breathing, and set her heartbeat back to a normal rate. "Whats going on?" Asked Liz. "You're falling in and out of cardiac arrest. Don't worry you're gonna be allright." Answered one of the paramedics. "Where's Max?" Asked Liz. "I'm right here!" Max said anxiously. "Hold my hand and don't let go, please don't let go. I love you." Said Liz calmly. Max grasped her hand and said "I love you too, I wont let go. I promise." A tear rolled down his cheek when suddenly she yelled "No! No! I can't leave yet!" Then she slowly closed her eyes as the life fell from her body.
Max held onto her hand and started to cry, but before he could, he felt something stop inside him. It was his heart. It felt like an explosion inside him. He suddenly fell and rested his head on her shoulder. In that one lonely hospital room now lied two dead teenagers. The autopsy reports declared that Elizibeth had died from heart failure due to a prolonged arhythmia. The reports on Maxwell were the ones that startled doctors from around the world. The reports showed that his heart was missing. No doctor nor medical scientists could explain it. It was later interpretted by an anonomous romantic. He explained that when Elizibeth left, his heart left with her. He stated that it wasn't tragic to die for the one you love with the one you love.
I hope you enjoyed my little story,
