Epilogue

LIZ

A giggle escapes me when Max caresses the side of my neck with his fingers. I pull away and grin at him.

“It’s an insult when I try seducing you and you giggle…” He tells me.

“What’s a woman to do when her husband tickles her?”

He rolls his eyes. “I have two things to say to you. One, that that was unintentional. And two, you are very ticklish.”

I knit my fingers through his and ask, “Max, do you know why my parents decided to stay here in New York for two weeks?”

He remains silent or a while then asks, “Do you know?”

“No. That’s why I’m asking you.” I answer.

He smiles and kisses my neck. I moan.

“I don’t know. Didn’t ask them.” He mumbles before capturing my mouth with his.

“Are we… back to the… s-seduction?” I whisper between kisses.

He answers me by cupping my breasts. I sigh into his mouth and arch my back. No matter how many times we make love, it still seems like the first time. Every kiss, every touch is like never before. We already made love four times today since Brad left with mom and we can’t get enough of each other. Man, a birthday on a Sunday never sucks.

I giggle at the last thought. Max pulls away and I bite my lip from laughing.

“Okay, I swear I wasn’t tickling you.”

I shake my head. “I wasn’t laughing because of that.”

“Then? What comedy am I missing on?” He asks.

I wrap my arms around him and whisper seductively, “I was thinking that Sundays never suck.” I didn’t mention to him about my birthday.

He smirks and presses his erection against my thigh. He kisses me deep then and when we pull away, he breathlessly tells me, “I’m going to make sure future Sundays never suck either.”

I smile and wrap my legs around his waist. His mouth trails down my neck, leaving open-mouthed kisses along the way. Finally, his mouth reaches my breasts that were being teased by his hands. He takes my hard nipple into his mouth and sucks hard, making me groan out loud and hold his head with my hands. Is it possible to get him even closer?

He repeats the action with the other breast too and I know that I can’t wait for him to be inside of me. I pull his body up and kiss him fiercely, driving my tongue into his mouth and searching every part of him with my tongue.

He takes my hands and my fingers twined into his, lifts our hands above our heads. He sucks my lower lip hard, causing me to let out a sigh of pleasure. It is moments like these between him and me that I long for. Of course, Brad takes most of our time and we hardly ever get some privacy but with my mom coming to New York, Brad spends most of the day with her.

The reason was simple-my son wants chocolates, sweets and toys and his grandparents are determined to give in into his every demand and spoil him.

All thoughts flew from my head when Max entered me. Inch by inch, he fills me and I groan out loud when he thrusts so deep and then out. This time, he is making deep and slow love to me. His actions are slow and we are enjoying every minute of it.

“Liz…” He moans when I lifted my hips to meet his thrust.

His mouth is next to my ear and I can hear every moan and my name coming from his mouth. His hands move to my hips to control my motion. And before I know it, I am screaming his name and climaxing. He follows soon after.

Spent, we remain like this for a few minutes, panting. Our bodies are covered with sweat but I don’t care and neither does he. I wrap my arms around him and hold him close, never wanting him to move.

After a few minutes, he rolls over to his side and lies down in his back. When I glance at him, his eyes are closed. I prop up myself on my elbows and move closer to him.

“Are you exhausted?” I tease.

He opens one eye and looks at me. “Yeah.”

I glance at the clock across the room and sigh. “It’s been hours since Brad left. I guess I should call my mom and ask her what they are doing.”

But before I could stand up, he reaches for me and I look at him, confused. “What’s up?”

“Oh, umm… I was thinking of picking up Brad from your parents and then we can go for some shopping?”

My brows knitted together, I ask, “You are really saying this? I mean you were the one who told me to tell my mother not to let him come home until you called?”

He sits up and marches towards the bathroom.

“Well, I want to call him now. Hurry up.” He calls over his shoulder and then closes the door.

I stare at the door for a moment, wondering what happened to him so suddenly. I roll my eyes and get off the bad. As I head towards the door, I pick up our clothing along the way. Max comes out after a few seconds whistling and I enter the bathroom, wondering why he’s been so weird.

Soon, I run out the front door in a hurry as Max keeps beeping the horn.

As I climb into the front seat, I say, “What happened to being patient? You are a terrible husband.”

He smiles and as we back out of the driveway, he asks, “Remember last night you told me what a perfect husband I am?”

I roll my eyes. “I doubt I ever said that.”

He laughs. “Well, you did. Now you can’t take your words back.”

“Whatever. You know, you are being really weird today. First you just left the bed like that and then you are being enthusiastic about shopping? What’s up with you?”

He glances at me before returning his gaze to the road. “Nothing. Just enjoying my Sunday.”

I look away from him and let out a sigh. You would have thought my husband of five years would be able to remember my birthday today? Well, that is not happening. What’s even weirder today is that he never forgets about my birthday and this time…

“Liz?” Max says, startling me out of my thoughts.

“Hmm?”

“Do you know tomorrow’s the 12th?”

“Yeah, obviously.”

“Five years ago, we left that house, remember?”

I smile, surprised he had memorized the date and the month when we moved to a new house. After being together for more than a year, we both had decided to get married. And when we did, Max had surprised me with the keys of our new house on our wedding night.

“How come you remember?” I ask.

He just shrugs and replies, “It was just a few days after our wedding.”

I smile again at the thought of our wedding anniversary that we celebrated just last week. It is a surprise to me that Max remembers the date when we moved to our new house but doesn’t remember my birthday. I want to remind him that but then I decide against it.

Maybe he’d remember before the clock strucks 12 a.m.

After picking up Brad, we head towards the mall. Brad tells us about his day with my mom and dad and I smile at every word that comes out of his mouth. So does Max.

When we finally reach the mall, Brad practically jumps from his seat in excitement. He knows that we’d end up buying him something so he keeps jumping in Max’s arms too when we walk towards the mall.

“Max, I’m going to this lingerie store. You guys wait, okay?”

Max touches my arm and says, “You go in and I’ll buy Brad some chocolates.” He then turns to Brad. “Right, buddy?”

“Yes!” Brad shouts, giving Max a high five.

I smile at both of them adoringly and nod. “Okay. But if you buy him anything more than a few chocolates, I’m going to kill you, Max.”

He gives me a quick kiss on my lips. “Sure, babe. Anything you say.”

I ruffle Brad’s hair. “And you. Daddy’s buying you chocolates only. Behave like a good boy and don’t bug your daddy, okay?”

He nods his head.

Two hours later, we all walk to our car in the parking lot, laughing. A few minutes later, Max pulls into our driveway and hurries out, carrying Brad in his arms.

“Max!” I call out when he practically runs towards the front door.

He stops and turns around.

“You are supposed to pick up these shopping bags so get your butt down here!”

“Liz, could you please do it because… umm… I have to go… and pee. Yes, that’s it, pee. And it’s not like these bags are heavy or something.” He answers, looking around.

I sigh. “Fine, weirdo.”

He gives me a smile and enters the house, leaving the door wide open.

I groan at his last comment. Sure these bags weren’t heavy but he couldn’t even be helpful to his pregnant wife. My eyes widen when I realize I haven’t told him yet. Sure I just found out earlier today but this is a news I should have given to him immediately. And when I had wanted to when Brad left, he had silenced me with a long kiss before I could say anything. Then the whole day in bed and mall, I never got a chance to speak to him alone.

I grin and after picking up the bags and locking the car, I hurry towards the house, determined to tell him now.

As I step in, I look around in the darkness. Why did Max switch off all the lights?

“Max, why is it so dark in here?” I call out but get no answer.

Obviously, they must be playing hide and seek. But in darkness this time? I sigh. It feels like I’ve got two children instead of one to look after.

I step further into the lounge and switch on the lights.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”

I squeal and the shopping bags go flying around from my hands. I gape at all my family and friends in shock and notice Max and Brad advancing towards me with a grin on both their faces.

“You… you planned this?” I ask Max as he comes to stand in front of me.

He gives me a kiss on my cheek. “Anything for my wife. Happy birthday, Liz.”

I throw my arms around him and hug him tight. After kissing him deep, I turn to Brad who grins at me.

“Come here.”

Max releases Brad from his arms and I lift Brad up on my hips. “Johnny Bravo, you didn’t tell me about all this? I thought you were my best fiend.”

“Best friends dun tell surpise serets, Mama.”

“It’s surprise secrets, baby.” Max corrects him, ruffling his hair.

“I’m no baby, daddy.”

Everyone laughs in the room and Max says, “Right. You are the oldest man on the planet earth.”

“Hey, what about us? Don’t we get a hug and maybe a kiss from the birthday girl?” Kyle teases from across the room.

For the first time, I notice his and Tess’s hands linked. I’d have to question about that later.

“Of course, come here.” I tell him and put Brad down.

As Kyle walks towards me, Max warns, “Only a hug, Kyle. No kiss.”

Another round of laughter follows in the room and one by one I meet everybody. After giving Maria and Michael a hug who are engaged now, I walk to where my parents are standing and make a disappointed face.

“No wonder you didn’t tell me the exact reason why you are here.” I complain.

Dad laughs and hugs me again. “Max has been planning this for a long time, sweetie. He had practically forced everybody to get his or her butt here in New York.”

“Yeah. And the most exciting thing was that Michael and I have been in New York for two days and you didn’t even know!” Maria exclaims as she walks towards us.

I gape at her. “This is so unfair! No wonder why nobody picked up the phone in your house in Roswell when I tried calling you last night.”

After an hour, I spot Max standing with Kyle and Tess.

“What’s up you guys?” I ask, coming to stand beside Tess.

“Liz, do you know about these lovebirds?” Max asks me as I give David a hug who just grows taller every time you’d see him.

I nod and smirk. “Their joint hands said it all.”

I giggle when Tess colors and Kyle groans. “We just got together, you guys.”

I laugh and then turn to Max. “Max, come with me for a minute.”

Before he could say anything, I drag him to the kitchen and close the door. He opens his mouth to say something but I fuse our mouths together. Soon I’m backed up against the counter and after a few minutes of making out, we pull away and pant on to each other’s faces.

“Thank you.” I whisper.

“If this is what I get for throwing a surprise party then I’m doing it everyday.”

I giggle and wrap my arms around his neck, pulling him closer so our foreheads are touching.

“You know, you are the only one who hasn’t given me a gift yet.”

He stares at me for a few seconds. “Like all the day in bed and this surprise party wasn’t enough for a birthday present?”

I shake my head, biting my lip from smiling.

He groans and pulls out a small box from his pocket.

“Fine, here you go.” He says, handing me the box.

I quickly open it and gasp when I see a diamond ring in it. “Oh my.”

He pulls out the ring and takes my right hand. A few seconds later, he’s kissing the ring which is on my finger now.

“This must have cost a fortune…”

He pulls me closer. “So? I do get much money and I can buy you a diamond ring.”

I smile and give him a sweet kiss.

Twining my fingers into his, I say, “I also have something.”

He grins. “It’s not my birthday today.”

“I know. Max, I’m… pregnant.”

I bite my lip when he doesn’t say a word and keeps staring at me. Without saying a word, he kisses me deep and hard. When we draw apart, he gazes down at me with love in his eyes.

“Liz, this is the best news ever.”

I grin and melt in his embrace. “You are a perfect husband.”

“Are you sure? Because if in the future you tell me I’m terrible, then I’ll definitely remind you of what you just said.”
