I'm Coming For You (M/L ADULT AA)

Post by Emz80m »

Title: I’m Coming for You
Author: Emma (aka Emz80m)
Category: M/L
Rating: ADULT
Disclaimer: I don’t own them I just loved them lol.
Authors Note: This is a sequel to “To Save Our World”. You should definitely read it before you read this one . Also, just like To Save Our World this deals with some UC coupling. I am not listing it though because I consider it minor.

Summery: Liz is now six months pregnant with the twins and trying to live her life in Roswell after the fallout between her, Max and Tess.

Part 1

‘So I had a really nice time’ he hears the male voice tell her as he sits on the top of the stairs. He knows he shouldn’t be watching or listening but he cant force himself not to.

‘Yeah me too’ she replies and he can imagine the smile that she has on her face as she says it too, because it’s the way she used to smile at him when he would drop her off after a date. It’s also the same smile he has seen on her face for the past two weeks as he watched her when she had been dropped home from her dates and he cant help but wonder if he’ll ever be offered a smile like that from her again.

‘So do you have anything planned this weekend?’ he asks her hopefully.

‘Oh well I actually have to go shopping, so far I having nothing for the babies and believe me they need a lot’ she tells him her hand automatically going to her stomach where their growing children are.

‘Oh well maybe I could take you?’ he hears him suggest, he wants to stand up and stomp down the stairs to inform him that it wouldn’t be necessary but he remains seated and listens for her response with bated breath.

‘Oh well thanks for the offer but Max and I are actually going together’ she answers.

‘Oh, where is he anyway?’ he can hear the dislike dripping in his voice but he ignores it, it wasn’t like he cared what he thought of him anyway,

He watches at Liz shrugs ‘His car is outside so he’s upstairs I guess’ she tells him.

‘So I guess I’m not coming in then’ he sighs in annoyance.

‘Kyle’ he hears her sigh.

‘I’m sorry I just don’t understand why you let him move in here with you’ he sighs.

‘You know why’ she answers ‘because in a few months we’re going to be parents’

‘Yeah I get that but I don’t see why he needs to be living with you to be a father’

‘Kyle, this isn’t an ordinary pregnancy’ she reminds him ‘not only am I going to be giving birth to twins, I’m giving birth at home and the twins will be the first alien babies born, which means that we have absolutely no idea what to expect. Max needs to be here in case anything happens and incase I need him’ Max feels his heart soar when he hears Liz acknowledge that she stills needs him because it certainly hadn’t felt that way for quite a while.

The truth was Liz Parker was sick of explaining herself to everyone. Over the past six months it had been an endless round of questions until she had begged her friends and family to back off. She had expected it at first, everyone in the group wanting to know what she was going to do now that she was pregnant and Queen, was she going to give Max a second chance.

Obviously it had been a completely different story when she had told her parents three months later. Max’s parents had been a piece of cake considering they already knew the alien details but neither set of parents was proud of their children. Her father had ranted and raved for hours about how irresponsible it was to get involved with a married man and even worse to get herself knocked up, he had even take a shot at Max which had luckily missed. In the end though they had chosen to accept the fact that they were going to be grandparents sooner rather than later but her father still wouldn’t talk to Max or serve him if he came into the restaurant.

‘So what about after their born?’ he continues to push her.

‘Kyle, please don’t do this’ he hears her beg him.

‘Don’t do what Liz?’ Kyle asks her ‘is it so wrong that I don’t like the thought of my girlfriend living with her ex-boyfriend, the soon to be father of her children?’ he snaps. Max cant help but smile at Kyle’s comment because Kyle should be worried.

‘Yes’ Liz cries. ‘Yes it is because this isn’t an ordinary situation and it never will be which is why I didn’t want do get involved with you like this in the first place, I’m going to be a mother Kyle I cant be someone’s girlfriend’

Silence follows Liz’s outburst even Max is surprised. It wasn’t news to him that Kyle Valenti hated him or that he hated the fact that Liz had opened her house to him but Max couldn’t bring himself to care. He didn’t like the fact that Kyle was dating his soul mate, or that his one time friend seemed fixated on taking his place in Liz’s life along with his role as father to his children.

‘Look Kyle I’ve really enjoyed the past couple of months, it’s been fun but I cant keep doing this’ she sighed.

‘What are you saying?’ Kyle asked her, alarmed and confused all at the same time.

‘I’m saying that I can’t keep defending myself and my decisions’ she told him ‘or Max’ she whispers the last part.

‘I just don’t get it Liz’ Kyle replies ‘it doesn’t matter what he does you just cant let him go’ the anguish in his voice at what is about to happen is more than obvious to Max from him place at the top of the stairs, and his heart hurts for what he knows Liz is about to do and how much it is going to hurt her.

‘Your not supposed to get it Kyle’ Liz tells him. ‘Because it isn’t about you’ she finishes.

Kyle only nods at her cryptic reply ‘Can I call you?’ he asks then.

‘Of course you can’ she answers him surprising the three of them ‘I mean like I said I always have fun with you’ she smiles.

He steps forward then and Max has to close his eyes as he watches his Liz respond to the kiss from the other man. It isn’t passionate or suggestive nor does it last very long but it signifies the one thing that Max was desperately fighting against. He had been hanging on with everything he could for the last six months even when she started dating Kyle in the first place but that one kiss tells him more than a thousand words can. Liz Parker was moving on without him.

He gets up from his spot on the stairs feeling defeated and quietly and heads into his room closing the door softly behind him never alerting Liz that he was there.

***

Liz sighed and threw her bag down on the couch as she walks into her living room. She had started dating Kyle about three months ago after fighting off his calls and flirting for three months before that. She hadn’t been ready to start dating anyone at that stage and as she fell into the safety of her couch she questioned her decision again about dating him now. Kyle was a great guy, just like he had been in high school except that now he was much more laid back, but still fun nonetheless. Dating him had certainly been interesting so far, but what she hadn’t bargained on was forgetting what it was like to be involved with someone.

Sure she had dated over the ten years that she had been away from Roswell but it had never been serious because she had always competed everyone to Max, after a few dates she would give the guy the brush off, or they wouldn’t call her when they realised she wasnt going to give them what they were looking for. But Kyle had her figured out and every move she made to put distance between them he was waiting with a better move.

Liz forgot that boyfriends wanted to be involved in all aspects of your life, she forgot that they thought important decisions should be discussed even when said decisions had nothing to do with the other person. That was why she found herself having the same conversation with Kyle now for the past two weeks.

About Max.

He was always at the roots of all her problems but this time he wasn’t there on purpose and she couldn’t be angry with him because of it.

Two Weeks Ago

Liz was getting out of her SUV awkwardly in the teachers carpark at West Roswell High when Max pulled up in his black jeep next to her and smiled. They had formed a tentative friendship over the past six months and Liz couldn’t deny that she liked seeing sighs on the old Max that she remembered from when she was sixteen. It had been hard at first, after that day in the granolith chamber and she still remembered so clearly listening to Max tell her that he was coming for her and the feelings it had caused to course through her body but eventually she had pushed it aside.

‘Hey’ He smiled as he rushed around the car to help her out.

‘Hey’ she smiled back.

‘You know your not going to be able to drive soon’ he told her as he placed a hand over her stomach and formed a connection with his children and Liz to wish them a good morning.

‘I know’ Liz sighed ‘I won’t be able to do much at all soon’

‘Well there is only a few more weeks to the end of semester and then you’ll be finishing up’ he reminded her.

Liz smiled at him and then for the first time noticed that his vehicle was full of boxes.

‘What’s with the boxes?’ she couldn’t help but ask.

Max sighed as he ran a hand though his spiky hair ‘my stuff’ he told her.

Liz looked at him confused, he had moved out of Tess’s and back in with his parents right after the day at the granolith chamber.

‘Yeah I can see that’ Liz laughed ‘Where are you taking it?’ she asked him.

‘Yeah good question’ he laughed ‘I’m not sure yet I just know that I can’t stay another night at my parents’

‘What happened?’ Liz asked him concerned. Things with his parents especially his mother had been difficult since his break up with Tess. Diane Evans had been bitterly disappointed in her son’s behavior and for some reason felt the need to remind him of it often. Also, she had decided to take it upon herself to take Tess under her wing as well, saying that everyone deserved a second chance. Liz knew that things were awkward and that his mother had set him up by inviting Tess over so they could talk on numerous occasions.

‘Oh you know just the usual, dinner with the ex-wife from hell’ he shrugged. Liz couldn’t help but laugh at the name Max had started using to refer to Tess. Unfortunetely though it was completely accurate, but that was a story for another time.

‘She didn’t?’ Liz asked shocked. Liz couldn’t understand why Dianne would continue to do that to Max after everything he had told them, and especially since Liz was pregnant with Max’s children.

‘Yep so that was it. I packed everything up and split’ he explained.

‘So where are you going to go?’ she asked him.

‘I was going to ask either Iz or Michael if I could crash on the lounge until I can find a place’ he answered.

Liz bit her lip thinking the situation over. Sure her and Max had a history, a bad one at that but Liz had a huge house with plenty of room and it certainly would come in handy having Max around during the last part of her pregnancy, as well as when the twins arrived. Max had expressed on numerous occasions quietly that he was disappointed he couldn’t share more of her pregnancy.

‘You could move in with me’ she suggested.

‘What?’ Max asked her, shocked.

‘I said you could move in with me’ she smiled ‘I mean think about it. You could be there for the last part of the pregnancy in case anything weird happens and then you would be there when the twins were born, you wouldn’t have to miss out on anything else’ she told him excitedly. She had never thought about the trouble it would cause her when she had opened her mouth and suggested it though.

‘Really?’ he had asked.

‘Yeah’

Without a word he crushed her small frame to his body in a hug as best he could considering the size of her stomach.

‘Thank you’ he whispered.

A/N: Ok i know a few of you are reading this and are probably confused. Firstly, i decided to not pick up where i left off but i will go back and fill you on things that are happening. Also, i have written anything more than this first part so i wont be updating like i usually do until i get some more written. A/N: Hi everyone. Firstly Happy New Year :D

I am back with Part 2 for you all and thank you to all you wonferful people that left feedback, and a big hi to you lurkers.

I think it's important that i clarify a few things before you read Part 2. From the feedback someone of you seemed to be a little confused about Max. This has started six months in time, and will flashback to things that have happened. I dont want to give storylines away but Max hasnt just been sitting on his ass, and Liz has gone a long way to forgiving him!!.

Also, the Evans know about Tess but they were only given basic details. This is basically something that Max and Isabel did to keep them safe. So Dianne just thinks that Tess made a bad error in judgement, Tess has been spending a lot of time trying to convince her of that, but because she had her powers removed (they were given to Liz  ) she is not mindwapring her.
Um, anyway just bear with it, like i said there will be flashbacks that will give us in sight to what has been truly happening between Max & LIz, Max & Tess, Liz & Kyle as well as Liz & Tess.

Part 2

Unbeknown to Liz that would be when all her problems would start.

She thought back over the past six months and the mess that had become her life. Her first thought after Maria had dropped her home after the confrontation with Tess at the granolith chamber was to pack up all her stuff and flee Roswell like she originally planned, but then she thought about her unborn children and the fact that she had just agreed to be Queen. There was no way that she could protect her children from other alien enemies if they came looking for her, she had no idea how to use the powers that she had just been given, she also realised that she was going to have to learn to use them so that she didn’t feel so helpless.

After hiding out in her house for a week, going nowhere accept for her job teaching at West Roswell High, where she did everything in her power to avoid Max, Liz had finally given in and agreed to talk to him.

***

Max lay on his bed and stared at the ceiling as he listened to the soft tunes of Dido from his stereo. He had heard Kyle’s car start about a half an hour ago and had considered going downstairs to talk to Liz whom he assumed was downstairs since he hadn’t heard her footsteps on the stairs, but had decided against it for the time being. He needed time to think and he thought that Liz could probably do with some time herself.

Max thought back to everything that had happened in the past six months, especially to the things that had led him to be sharing a house with Liz again after everything that had happened. Even he at times couldn’t believe that Liz had forgiven him enough to open her house to him.

Flashback six months earlier

Michael had dropped Max off at the apartment he shared with Tess after they had left the granolith chamber. Tess hadn’t arrived home yet so Max used the time to start packing most of his personal things that were in the bedroom they had shared. It was a bittersweet moment for Max, he was closing the door on a huge part of his life and even though he realised it was what he needed and wanted to do, and he still felt bitter that it was happening.

He had never believed that he would be able to get over Liz when she had fled from Roswell ten years earlier; in fact he had mourned her departure for almost a year and a half before he had finally accepted a date with a girl he went to school with. They went out a couples of times before Tess had come back into the picture, they had gone out as friends and soon enough their outings had turned into dates with goodnight kisses. He believed that Tess was a different person to the girl who had come to Roswell sprouting about Destiny and breaking up him and Liz, so he took the time to get to know her and eventually he had grown to love her.

‘Max’ Tess’s voice had interrupted his thoughts and he resumed his packing ignoring her.

‘Are you not even going to talk to me?’ she whispered hurt.

‘There’s nothing to talk about’ he answered his back still to her.

‘I don’t want you to go’ she cried ‘I know what I’ve done is wrong but tell me how I can fix it and I will’ she begged.

‘What do Lonnie and Nicholas want?’ Max turned and asked her.

‘They wanted a free ride home’ she answered.

‘Is that all? Are they going to come here and cause trouble?’ he asked.

‘They’ll get in contact with me in a few weeks to see if I’m pregnant’ she whispered ‘when I tell them that I’m not and that you know what’s going on they’ll be pissed, I don’t know what they’ll do’ she answered.

‘Do you know how to find them in New York?’ he asked her a plan forming in his mind already.

‘Um yeah I guess’ Tess answered confused.

‘Good, keep a bag packed your going to New York’ he told her walking out of the bedroom and into his study where he resumed packing his things up.

‘W-What? Why?’

‘You don’t need to know why, just do it’ he told her stiffly.

When he finished packing he began to load everything into his SUV all the while Tess followed him around like a dog.

‘Now for the rules’ Max told her

‘Rules?’ she frowned.

‘Yes rules that you need to follow if you want to stay alive’ he threatened.

‘There simple enough for even you to follow. Stay away from Liz, Maria and Alex. Don’t leave Roswell for any reason and don’t even consider contacting or being contacted by any aliens enemies or allies without telling Michael. Understand?’

Tess nodded.

‘And us?’ she asked him.

‘There isn’t an us any longer. I cant trust you nor do I want to’ he answered.

‘So that’s it, we were married in two lifetimes but it means nothing now that Liz is back’ she snap angrily.

‘No, that’s we’re your wrong Tess. It did mean something and you betrayed it like it was nothing. I’m no saint, I cheated on you and I did that regardless of what you were doing behind my back and I’ll take my share of the blame. But I don’t want to fix it’ he finished.

‘But why?’ she cried.

‘Because I don’t want to love someone like you, someone that can do the things that you were planning on doing to the people you claim to love and most importantly I cant love you if I don’t know you’ he replied angrily.

‘But you do love me I know you do’ she argued. It was true to some degree he had loved her, he had even tried defending her but it was surprising how easily love can deplete when you find out that the person you committed yourself to can betray you, and hand you over to be murdered.

‘No Tess, I did’ Max replied and without another word he hopped in his SUV and began to drive away from the apartment and women he had shared his life with, and he didn’t look back.

The next day the gang minus Liz and Tess met at Michael and Maria’s to discuss everything and come up with a plan.

‘So what do we do now Max?’ Isabel asked causing Max to cringe. He knew that he was considered the King but he got tired of having to make all the decisions all the time.

‘Well I have an idea but I want to know what you all think about it’ he told them.

‘I asked Tess what Nicholas and Lonnie wanted and she said they wanted a free ride home, they’re supposed to get in contact with her in a few weeks and she says that they’ll be pissed when she tells them she’s not pregnant. She also has no idea if they’ll come to Roswell and cause us trouble’ he explained.

‘So what’s the plan?’ Michael asks.

‘I think that we should go to New York and take them out before they have a chance to find out that we’re on to them and react’ he informs them.

Isabel’s shocked gasp is the only sound that can be heard though the room after Max’s announcement.

‘I agree’ Michael said then.

‘We’re not killers’ Isabel objected.

‘It’s killed or be killed Iz’ Michael told her.

‘Look Isabel normally I would agree with you and I would come up with a plan that didn’t I involve violence but I don’t have the option to be a compassionate leader any longer, I have Liz and the twins to think about now, they need to come first and I wont risk them’ Max told her.

‘Your right Max’ Alex spoke up ‘and thank you for putting her first for once’ he added.

Max could only nod at his brother in law; he knew he deserved the little dig from Alex. He had never put Liz first, she had always been second or third to Isabel and Michael and then even fourth to Tess, and he was ashamed of himself for treating her that way and only hoped that he could earn her love again someday by trying to become a better man.

‘Ok’ Isabel finally agreed ‘but I don’t think you should go Max’ she finished.

‘Why?’ Max asked his sister confused.

‘Well like you said you can’t risk something happening to Liz and the twins so you should stay here with them, Michael and I will go’ she told him.

‘No Isabel I cant ask you to do that, I made the decision to end this you shouldn’t have to do my bidding’ he argued.

‘Isabel is right Max’ Michael butted in ‘you need to deal with things here, too much depends on the twins lets not take any risks. And your wrong, it is our job to do your bidding’

‘Ok’ Max nodded ‘ I agree with you guys, I didn’t think about it but I’m not really sure that I’m the one Liz is going to want to be protected by’ he voiced quietly.

The room went silent no one knew how to respond to that. The group all silently acknowledged he was right but it was Maria that finally spoke and broke the silent deadlock ‘that’s true’ she told Max bluntly ‘Max do you love Liz and the twins?’ she asked him, the question coming out of left field surprising and confusing everyone.

‘Um yes of course’ Max immediately replied without thought.

Maria nodded seemingly happy with his answer ‘Liz is stubborn Max, but so are you and as much as I want to strangle you for what you’ve put Liz through I know that she will be safest with you, no offence Space boy and Isabel. So I don’t care what it takes, even if Alex and I have to convince her ourselves, it needs to be you’

‘Um why?’ Isabel asked her blonde friend; she was totally clueless when it came to Maria sometimes.

Maria smiled ‘because you’ll do anything for the person you love to keep them safe, Isabel’ and that was how Maria Deluca knew that everything would be ok eventually. It might take some time for Liz and Max to find their way back to one another but it would happen because they loved each other too much for it not too. Right now Liz was hurt and Maria could understand that better than anyone, but when everything was said and done Max Evans didn’t love Tess Harding and that was proved by the fact that he couldn’t give up the one thing he needed to, to make her happy and safe. He couldn’t give up Liz.

Part 3

Present time

Max walked slowly down the stairs and found Liz in the living room, and she appeared to be asleep. Kneeling down in front of her he reached out to tenderly remove her shoes whilst taking the time to watch her sleeping peacefully. He knew he shouldn’t stare, that she felt embarrassed when he watched her but he couldn’t help it. He wanted to drink up the sight of her beautiful face and body, which was growing with their children, to take every bit of the moment into his memory so that in fifty years time he could remember what it was like.

‘Beautiful’ he sighed.

He leaned in and pushed a bit of hair which had fallen from it’s clip behind her ear, before allowing his hand to fall down her body to rest of her abdomen where he was able to form an immediate connection with the twins.

He leant down and placed his face on Liz’s stomach needing to feel closer to her, to his children ‘Hey guys’ he whispered, he smiled when he felt their awareness of who he was and their love encompass him.

‘I love you guys a whole bunch and I can’t wait till you’re here with me and your mummy’ he told them softly. ‘But you guys have to hold on a little longer so I can make things better for you’ he finished.

From her position on the couch Liz listened to words Max spoke to their children with tears in her eyes. She had been resting against the couch when she had heard him coming down the stairs, not in the mood to talk to anyone after the night she had she let him believe that she was asleep. It wasn’t unusual for him to sneak into her room at night in the past two weeks in an effort to feel closer to them, but it was the tender way he had treated her earlier that made her want to reach out to him right now.

‘Mummy and I are going shopping to buy you all the wonderful things you need for when your with us, and we still have to pick out your godparents’ he chuckled a little then ‘your Aunt Maria and Aunt Isabel are still fighting it out’

Liz smiled also at the comment; it was true and had caused many hours of tension between the two blondes in the past month.

‘But the most important thing I have to do is show your mummy how much I love her’ he finished ‘I’ve been trying munchkins and I promise I wont stop, I hope she still loves me and that maybe one day soon I’ll be worthy of her again. You guys are so lucky to have her as your mummy because I know she’s going to be the best mum in the world’

Liz couldn’t hold back the tears that fell at his last comment, he had so much confidence in her and what a great mother she would be. She reached out a hand and ran in tenderly through his black hair ‘Max’ she whispered.

Max’s head snapped up when he hears Liz murmur his name ‘Hey’ he said quietly ‘I didn’t wake you did I?’ he asked worried ‘I was just saying hi to the twins before I carried you up to bed’ he told her.

‘No, it’s okay’ she smiled through her tears, she was just about to move when an overwhelming movement in her abdomen stopped her and her eyes locked with Max.

‘Did you feel that?’ she asked him.

Breaking into a smile ‘yes’ he told her. It was the unmistakable feel of the twins moving, they had only started doing it a few weeks back, and usually only when Max and Liz were both connected with them.

‘They like it when we’re together’ she told him softly.

‘You think?’ he asked happily.

‘Yeah, they played up all night while I was out’ she informed him. And they had too. It wasn’t as though she could put a finger on exactly what they were doing accept making her feel completely uncomfortable and their feelings were also overwhelming her.

‘Oh, what happened?’ he asked concerned. One of the things that had plagued Max throughout the pregnancy was that something alien could affect Liz.

‘I think my connection to them is getting stronger’ she informed him ‘they really didn’t want to be out on a date’ she sighed.

Max scratched his ear unsure of how to respond because they weren’t the only ones that didn’t want her to be out on a date, he was also a little worried that it wasn’t just the twins feelings she was picking up on through the connection.

‘Is that why you were home early?’ he asked.

Liz sighed ‘that and the fact my feet and back are killing me, I feel like a beached whale and just’ she stopped when she realised she was rambling.

Max smiled ‘Oh well that’s no good, come on’ he told her; he reached down and scooped her into his arms and started to walk towards the stairs.

‘Max put me down, I’m too heavy’ Liz squealed.

Max laughed ‘Sweetie, I bench press more than this everyday’ he told her.

‘Oh’ she frowned.

‘What are you doing anyway?’ she asked then.

‘Well first I’m going to pour you a bath so you can relax and then I’m going to give you a massage with a little bit of alien somethin, somethin’ he wiggled his eyebrows at the last comment causing Liz to laugh.

He sat Liz on the bed whilst he went and poured her bath for her, knowing exactly how she liked it and setting up all the things she liked whilst she was in there. He wasn’t sure when he had gotten to know Liz Parker so well, he had known who Liz was at sixteen and as scary as that was he knew Liz as twenty six twice as well, and what amazed him what that they were two completely different people.

When he had everything prepared he walked back into Liz’s room to tell her it was ready and found her frowning as she tried to hop up from the bed so that she could undress.

‘What’s wrong?’ he asked her, this wasn’t an unusual sight of a morning.

‘I can’t get up’ she told him.

Quickly walking towards the bed Max supported her so she could pull herself up, he had learnt early on that it was important not to do everything for her, it just upset her more.

‘Thank you’

‘Welcome, do you need help getting into the bath?’ he asked her.

Liz thought about it for a moment, it wasn’t like Max hadn’t seen her naked everyday for the past few months anyhow ‘please’ she finally answered.

Max helped her gently remove her clothing before following her into the bathroom ‘Oh god that looks so good’ she sighed as she allowed Max to support her as she climbed into the tub.

Max was having a hard time keeping his eyes of the beautiful sight in front of him. Liz was such an amazing person, beautiful in everyway but the sight of her naked whilst pregnant with his children had been reeking havoc on him for weeks now, he just hoped that she wouldn’t notice the reaction she was having on him because he knew she would probably kick him out.

When Liz was standing in the tub Max ran around to the other side so he could place his arms under hers to help lower her down.

‘Thank you’ Liz smiled at him once he had her soaking.

Max smiled ‘your welcome just yell out when you’re ready to get out, don’t try doing it by yourself’ he told her.

He took a few steps towards the door when her plea stopped him ‘Stay?’ she asked.

‘You sure?’ it wasn’t the first time it had happened over the past six months and he hoped it wasn’t the last.

Liz nodded and waited for Max to take a seat behind her head where she knew he would play with her hair.

Six months earlier

Max stood nervously on Liz’s front porch after ringing the bell, he knew she was home since it had been her idea for him to come over.

‘Hi’ she said when she finally opened the door.

‘Hey’ he smiled back.

They sat down in the living room across from each other, neither knowing what to say at first.

‘I’m so sorry’ Max whispered eventually causing Liz to look up at him.

‘What for?’ Liz asked. They’re was a lot going on between them but if Max wanted forgiveness for something he was going to have to be a little more specific she thought.

‘For leaving that morning’ he whispered.

Liz closed her eyes at the hurt that consumed her from that one comment. At the time she hadn’t know he had left but she remembered what it felt like so clearly when he had told her.

‘It was the worst mistake of my life’ he continued.

‘Why?’ she couldn’t help but ask.

‘Because I was so scared’ he admitted, assuming she wanted to know why he left.

‘And you didn’t think I was?’ she asked.

‘No’ he shook his head ‘god when you returned you turned my life up side down. Everything feeling that I had for you at sixteen, feelings I had thought had faded sprang to back life and everything around me just seemed so unimportant. But you made it look so easy’

‘It wasn’t’ Liz cried ‘do you think I wanted to come back knowing you had married her but I did it because of the importance of the situation’

‘A situation I knew nothing about’ Max cried ‘why couldn’t you come to me?’ he asked.

‘I came to you in the only way I knew how anymore’ she whispered.

‘I didn’t go home to her’ he whispered.

‘What?’

‘I know you think I left that morning because I felt guilty and that I was going home to my wife but that’s not the truth’ he told her, begging her to believe him.

‘When I woke up I was so happy to see you in my arms, it was like a dream come true for me Liz but the thing was I knew I didn’t deserve you. I didn’t have the right to do that to you and yes I left because I knew if I didn’t leave right that second I never would. Tess was away on business Liz I knew she wasn’t going to be there, I wasn’t going home to her I swear’

‘But you told me you loved her’ she cried, wanting to believe his words but finding it hard.

‘Yes I did, but I also told you it wasn’t like the way I loved you. It was different. After you left we became friends Liz. That friendship turned into love, it was never intense or heartbreaking like the love we shared, it was easy’ he admitted.

‘I thought you would come for me’ she admitted then.

‘I’m sorry?’ Max asked her confused.

‘When I left, I thought you would come for me’ she cried.

Max felt his heart break as he watched her fall apart in front of him, he didn’t know what to tell her accept the truth ‘I thought about it a thousand times in the first two years but god baby, you broke my heart’ he replied.

‘I didn’t find out until I was already involved seriously with Tess that none of it was true. All I knew was that you kept in contact with everyone but me, including Kyle. I even heard rumours that you were pregnant, I began to hate you Liz because it hurt so badly’ he admitted. ‘No one would tell me where you were or if you were ok, I’ Max allowed himself to fall apart then as well.

‘I need you to know that if I had known I would have come for you, I will always come for you’ he cried down on his knees crawling towards her.

‘And when you did know?’ she couldn’t help but ask because she had never given up hope.

Max looked up at her before he uttered his next words ‘I came’ he told her quietly. He had finally found out from Michael that she was living in Florida a couple months after he was told about Future Max. Michael had been reluctant to give him the address which he had to steal from Maria’s organizer when she wasn’t looking, but after talking it through with him he realised that’s Max intentions were for the best. He wanted her back and he was going to tell her that.

‘W-What?’ a shocked Liz asked.

‘It was about 4 years after you left, I came’ he told her.

‘I never saw you’ she denied.

‘I know but you were so happy, you had a boyfriend and the two of you looked serious’ he told her and they had as he had watched them making out in the back of Rick’s car.

‘Oh god’ Liz cried. Rick had been one of the first guys she had tried dating. ‘It wasn’t’ she denied. ‘Why didn’t you come and see me, I would have told you’ she cried out.

‘I had already hurt you so much Liz, and you looked so happy I couldn’t come in and pull you back into the alien mess, I wanted you to have something better’ he cried.

‘Don’t you get it by now Max’ Liz yelled in frustration ‘there was never going to be something better for me that you’ she cried.

‘I thought you wanted normal boys’ he cried

Liz watched as the man on his knees in front of her pleaded for her forgiveness and for the first time since the night on the balcony ten years earlier she finally understood how much she had hurt him, that saving the world had come at a price and that they had both paid very highly for it.

She allowed her body to fall into his arms and she cried a long with him, ‘I’m so sorry’ he sobbed

A/N: Hey everyone, thank you for the feedback. I'm a little surprised how passionate you all are. It's also not surprising how upset you all are with Max, my only response at this stage is that you need to continue to read the story and that Liz isnt an innocent in this whole thing. The whole thing started because of Liz and ultimately i believe that she is the only one that can end it. A big hi to the lurkers as well.

Part 4

Present Time

‘Max’ Liz’s voice startled Max from his thoughts.

‘Yeah?’ he asked softly. Liz was still lying in the tub and he could see from his spot near her head that here eyes were closed as enjoyed the feeling of Max running his hands through her long hair.

‘D-Do you miss her?’ she asked hesitantly.

Max knew instantly that she was referring to Tess and he stopped himself from sighing ‘No, I feel as though a weight has been lifted of my shoulders now’ he replied.

‘How so?’ she asked.

‘Well for so long I’ve had this destiny hanging over my head, when I began to date Tess I tried to tell myself I was doing it because I wanted to not because a couple of people from a planet far away told me I should but the truth was it was just easier’

‘How?’

‘I didn’t have to worry about telling anyone my secret because she already knew, I didn’t have to try either she just accepted anything I could give her and I knew I wouldn’t get hurt’

‘Do you remember her from your past life?’ she asked then, it was something that she had dreaded everyday.

‘Yeah’ he answered softly ‘sometimes I think I’m destined to make the same mistakes twice’ he finished.

‘What do you mean?’ a confused Liz asked.

‘I didn’t choose Liz in my last life either we were betrothed but I grew to love her and we were happy before our death but I don’t think she was the person I thought she was then either’

Liz thought about what he said ‘I haven’t seen her around lately’ Liz said then.

‘Yeah I know I think she finally got the message’ he replied

Two weeks earlier at the Evans house

Max walked through the door to his parents place exhausted. He had just played a game of basketball with Michael and like usual they hadn’t gone easy on each other.

‘Oh Max honey your home’ his mother smiled as she walked out from the kitchen.

‘Yeah sorry I’m late’ he apologized realizing that it was pretty much dinnertime.

‘That’s fine sweetie go get cleaned up, we have a guest’ she told him with a smile.

‘Oh’ Max’s brows furrowed she hadn’t mentioned anything about a guest and his senses immediately went on alert.

Choosing to ignore it for the moment he raced up the stairs and into his bedroom, removing clothes as he went. Jumping into the shower he let his mind wander to Liz, she had looked so tired at school that day and he was thankful that she would be finishing up in a week, her small frame and the fact that she was carrying twins meant that she was enormous by now and he was concerned that she wouldn’t be able to get around for very much longer. Turning off the shower after quickly cleaning off he decided to drop over there after dinner to check on her.

He walked out of the bathroom and into his bedroom with a towel wrapped around his waist as he tried to decide what to throw on, conscious that he wanted to look good for Liz later.

‘Well that’s a sight for saw eyes’ a high-pitched voice startled him, he whizzed around to the bed and found Tess seated there.

‘What are you doing here Tess?’ he asked her as he quickly picked up some clothes and made his way back to the bathroom.

Tess licked her lips as she spotted his obvious erection tenting his towel, the one that had come from his thoughts of Liz.

‘I can take care of that for you’ he told him licking her lips.

Max groaned in disgust ‘the prospect of a cold shower and my hand holds more appeal’ he replied.

He shut the door in the bathroom and quickly threw on the shirt and jeans that he had picked up before coming back out to face his ex.

‘So?’ he asked.

‘Oh didn’t your mum tell you she invited me for dinner?’ she asked smugly.

‘No, or I wouldn’t be here’ he snapped.

Without waiting for her to say anything he immediately stalked down the stairs towards the kitchen looking for his mother. He had been very patient with his mother over the past six months. This hadn’t been the first time she had set him up but it had certainly been the worse, considering she knew he had gone upstairs for a shower.

‘Would you like to tell me what the hell she is doing in this house, and better yet in my bedroom?’ he asked as he entered the kitchen.

‘Max son, what’s the problem?’ Philip Evans asked; he appeared to be oblivious to his wife’s latest stunt.

‘The problem is that I’ve told mum countless times that I don’t want anything to do with Tess yet she continues to ignore me. I just got out of the shower to find her in my bedroom’ he yelled.

‘Dianne?’ Philip gasped.

‘What Philip?’ Diane turned to her husband ‘she is his wife’ she defended.

‘No she will be my ex-wife as soon as she signs the god damn papers, and that’s not the point’ Max snapped at her.

‘Max you never gave the poor girl a chance, she loves you’ Diane began to argue.

‘I don’t care’ Max yelled angrily ‘Listen to me mother because I am only going to say this once. Tess Harding is a backstabbing manipulative bitch that was plotting to kill your daughter and me, you remember Isabel right? I don’t want you or anyone else in my life, especially me having anything to do with her and if you continue to play this game then I can promise you, you will never see me or your grandchildren’ he warned causing Diane Evans to gasp.

‘Max settle down son’ Philip tried to calm Max down.

‘No’ Max shook his head ‘I love you mum but you’ve gone to far this time. I’ll be gone in the morning’ he told them.

‘Max’ Diane Evans cried out to her son in devastation but her cries went unheard as Max stormed out of the kitchen coming face to face with a teary eyes Tess.

‘Max please’ she begged.

‘Get out of this house Tess you are not welcome here or anywhere else that I am’ he told her, his words as hard as steel.

‘Don’t you want your divorce papers?’ she taunted him then causing Max to stop on the stairs.

‘Because you can have them if you spend the night with me’ she told him her eyes roaming his body.

‘Like I said Tess’ Max shrugged ‘Not so appealing’

‘Well it should be because it’s the only way I’m going to sign those papers and until I sign them you cant marry Liz Perfect Parker can you’ she snapped.

‘I wouldn’t be so sure about that Ms Harding’ Philips voice interrupted ‘there are others way to get a divorce and you know that as well as I do, the only difference is Tess that I have the money and the contacts to help Max get it through the courts, do you?’ he asked. Tess may have been a lawyer but she hadn’t learnt all the tricks in the book yet.

Max smiled thankfully at his father as he watched Tess pull out the divorce papers and sign them.

‘I know that what I did was wrong Max and I’ll regret that for the rest of my life but what about you? When are you going to admit that you’re wrong? That you should have at least given our marriage a chance. I know you never loved me like you loved her but we were happy enough, and we could have been again’ she said.

‘Happy enough just isn’t good enough anymore Tess. And what good would a marriage be with a husband who doesn’t trust nor love his wife, and a wife who knows her husband’s heart lies somewhere else. Regardless of what you’ve done one thing is very clear to me now Tess, and that is that our marriage never would have lasted, we never belonged together’

Max didn’t wait for a response from Tess he quickly turned and walked up the stairs divorce papers in hand knowing that he had finally put that chapter of his life to rest.

‘Are you ready to get out’ Max asked Liz with a small smile.

‘Hmm yeah’ she replied allowing Max to help her out of the tub. Max couldn’t help but smile as he watched her standing wet and naked in the middle of the bathroom waiting for him to hand her a towel.

‘Your so beautiful’ he whispered unable to stop himself from reaching out and wrapping the towel around her from behind. Liz unconsciously leant back and closed her eyes against his hard body.

‘I thought we agreed that we weren’t going to do this anymore’ she whispered as she felt Max’s hand run through her hair drying it as he went.

‘I know’ he replied regretfully. He knew he hadn’t overstepped the boundaries quite yet but he was able to admit that he was finding it hard to hold back. He felt as though her body was calling out to him, it was such a familiar feeling over the past six months.

Reluctantly he let her go and he stepped around her and took her hand ‘Come on’ he told her as he lead her out of the bathroom and into her bedroom. ‘Lie down’ he told her then.

‘W-Why?’ Liz asked she was both nervous and excited all at the same time about what was going to happen.

‘Because I promised you a foot and a back massage and I don’t break promises’ he told her ‘anymore’ he added on quietly.

Liz felt his guilt surge through their connection and her heart fell, she hated that she put those feelings within him.

Dropping the towel to the ground, leaving herself naked Liz lay down on the bed and watched with a small smile as Max’s eyes roamed her body. He sat down on the foot of the bed and took one small foot into his hands and began to work his magic.

‘Oh that feels so good’ Liz moaned.

Max groaned and closed his eyes as Liz’s moans began to wreak havoc on his body. He was already as hard as hell and he didn’t think he could stand anymore but apparently Liz’s torture had just began as she slowly parted her legs giving Max a tempting view of her wet folds.

When Max had finished both feet he told her to sit up so that he could gain access to her back. He ran his hands delicately down her back, paying special attention to her lower back and allowing his hands to drift down to her ass occasionally. Liz leaned her head back so that it was resting against Max’s shoulder.

‘Max’ she sighed causing him to shiver.

‘Yeah’ he answered.

‘Touch me’ she said ‘Please’ she added when she felt his body stiffen.

‘I am touching you sweetie’ he answered innocently.

‘No, touch me everywhere’ she begged her breath now coming out of her mouth in small puffs.

‘Liz’ Max started ‘Are you sure?’ he asked her. ‘I mean, I thought we decided not to do this’ he argued.

‘Max’ she whispered huskily ‘remember you told me that you would be here for anything that I needed?’ she asked him.

‘Um yeah’ Max swallowed he didn’t think he liked where this was going.

‘Well I need you’ she told him.

‘No you don’t baby, you just want me’ he replied sadly.

‘No, believe me when I tell you I need you’ she told him and Max was caught of guard at the loving sound in his voice as she said that.

‘Open up to me Max’ she begged, and Max knew instantly that she was referring to their connection.

Max allowed himself to reach out to her and as soon as he did he was overwhelmed with her need for him to touch her, to love her, to be one with her but he could also sense her confusion over the intensity of these feelings.

On the other side of the connection Liz was swamped with desire and love from Max and also confusion. He wasn’t sure whether or not giving in to Liz was in her best interest and he was conflicted.

‘Oh Max’ she sighed.

Part 5

Three Months Earlier (Song – Don’t Ask For More by Abby Dobson)

The group was all sitting around the pool at the Isabel and Alex’s enjoying a quiet afternoon when Max had seen Liz growing increasingly edgy and she also appeared to be completely uncomfortable too.

‘Liz are you ok?’ he asked her quietly.

Liz frowned ‘um I think I need to go home’ she told him ‘can you take me?’

‘Sure’ he said before offering her his arm to help her up. They made excuses and said their goodbyes and quickly left the Whitman’s neither really understand what the sudden rush was to be alone together.

When they had pulled up in Liz’s driveway Max helped her out of the car and walked her to the front door.

What do you say
When words are not enough
Too few wont start it off
But to many is just to much

‘Thanks for bringing me home’

‘Your welcome, are you sure your okay?’ he asked her concerned. Liz was the first to of them to be pregnant so no one really knew what to expect during her pregnancy. It meant that they were always completely on guard and very protective over her.

‘Um yeah, why don’t you come in?’ she offered.

I’ve read all the signs
But I still don’t know the way
I could try to lead you there
But I’d just lead you astray

Max accepted her offer and followed her into the house; he had only just gotten the door shut behind him when Liz launching herself into his arms and fusing their lips together startled him. It took him a minute to realise what was happening and when he did he immediately responded to her kiss, opening his mouth to allow her to deepen it.

Ask me no question and I’ll tell you no lies
If you want to be with me
Cause the truth would set you free
Don’t look to closely all you’ll see my disguise
I saw the love between us die
But I’m not ready for goodbye

‘Liz’ he sighed when they broke away from the kiss and Liz immediately heard the silent question.

‘Not now Max’ she replied their foreheads together. She wasn’t ready to ask questions about what was happening right now ‘Right now I just want to feel’ she told him.

‘Feel just what exactly?’ he asked her, his voice hopeful. Over the past three months they had spent a lot of time talking and crying together, trying to come to terms with the hurtful things they had done to each other over the past 12 years. But they never discussed getting back together and so far Max had been reluctant to bring it up.

Don’t ask for more
Cause what you’re searching for
You wont find at my door
Don’t ask for more
My heart already knows
But my head wont let you go

‘You, me, everything’ was her mumbled response as she pressed kisses down his neck.

Please try and understand
This is all I am
I keep holding on
But half of me is gone
The pieces of my heart
Are lying on the floor
It’s been broken once before
It can’t be broken anymore

Max was torn, on one hand he was hopeful that this was a step on the road to reconciliation for them, but on the other hand this wasn’t how he wanted to start that journey, they needed to talk before they gave into their feelings because he didn’t want to stuff this up again.

‘Just feel Max that’s it’ Liz said again.

‘And then?’ he asked.

Ask me no question and I’ll tell you no lies
If you want to be with me
Cause the truth will set you free
Don’t look to closely
Or you’ll see my disguise
I don’t want to live a lie
But I can’t say another goodbye

Liz pulled back and look at him then ‘I just need you tonight’ she told him and even though Max knew that come tomorrow nothing would be the same again there was no way he could refuse her.

‘Don’t’ she begged realizing what he was thinking ‘one night’ she told him.

Don’t ask for more
Cause what you’re searching for
You wont find at my door
Don’t ask for more
My heart already knows
But my head wont let you go

Making the decision Max’s hands crept down her body until they were cupping Liz’s ass and he lifted her up his body, gliding her along his body and bringing her into contact with his arousal, arousal that was purely for her. Liz understood what he wanted and immediately wrapped her legs around his waist and allowed him to carry her up the stairs to her bedroom.

Ask me no question and I’ll tell you no lies
If you want to be with me
Cause the truth would set you free
Don’t look to closely all you’ll see my disguise

They were in their own world once they reached the bedroom, a world where nothing else mattered but the need to be with each other. Liz was unsure where it had come from but it was powerful and undeniable and for the first time in three months she didn’t want to fight it. She was sick of fighting her feelings for the man in her arms.

They ignored the phone as it rang; they continued to ignore it as the answering machine picked up.

‘Hey Liz, it’s Kyle. I was just calling to tell you that I had a great time last night, a really great time and I was hoping we could do it again soon. If your not busy I’d like to take you out again tomorrow night. Call me’

Max felt the urge to pull back when he heard the sound of Kyle Valenti on the phone ringing to make plans to take out his Liz again, but one look at a ravaged Liz and all thoughts were forgotten.

Don’t ask for more
Cause what you’re searching for
You wont find at my door
Don’t ask for more
My heart already knows
But my head wont let you go

Clothes were slowly shed as Max and Liz spent the time worshipping each other’s bodies. Liz took the time to learn Max’s body, something that she hadn’t done the first time they had been together.

***

The next morning Max laid spooned against Liz watching her sleep. He wanted to savour the moment because he didn’t know what to expect when she woke up. Would she kick him out of the bed or would she scream at him for touching her the night before.

He didn’t have to wait too long to find out because her eyes began to flutter open right that moment.

‘Hey’ she whispered.

‘Hey’ he replied his hand caressing her naked stomach where he could feel the faint connection with the twins.

‘I didn’t wake you did I?’ he asked gesturing to his hand.

‘Your thoughts did’ she laughed.

‘What?’ he asked.

‘You were thinking way to loud’ she informed him.

‘I was talking out loud?’ he asked.

‘No, I could hear you through the connection’ she told him, wriggling her body back so that she was pressed up further against him.

Max was certainly surprised when she snuggled closer to him.

‘Oh sorry about that’ he told her.

‘It’s ok’ she replied.

‘So, last night?’ he said then.

‘Yeah’ she replied before rolling over so she could face him ‘thank you for that’ she told him.

Max blushed, he had never been thanked before ‘Your welcome’

‘I know I’m sending you a lot of mixed signals at the moment’ she started ‘and the truth is I still love you’

‘I love you too’ he whispered.

‘I-I know’ she told him trying her hardest to keep the tears at bay ‘but I don’t think love is enough between us anymore’

Max felt his heart fall then ‘I need you in my life in so many ways it scares me’ she told him then.

Max nodded. He knew that feeling it was something he had felt everyday after he saved Liz and realised that the feelings he had for her could be reciprocated.

‘I don’t want to talk about the mistakes in the past anymore I want us to be able to move forward from them’

‘Me too’ Max smiled.

‘I mean move on as friends’ she told him then.

Max closed his eyes for a second trying to get his emotions under control before opening them ‘Friends?’

‘Yeah because that’s whats going to be important when Claud and Alex arrive and they need to be our first priority. I don’t want our past or our feelins for each other to get in the way of us being able to raise out babies together’ she told him.

‘Friends is definitely a good place to start’ Max agreed with her. ‘But do you really think that we can hide from our feelings for each other forever?’

‘I’m not hiding from them Max, you and I both know what we feel for each other but it’s destructive and I don’t want that kind of relationship’

Max sat up then ‘Wow, so last night was?’ he asked her then.

‘Last night was need to be with you, I cant explain where it came from’ she whispered.

‘Well as much as I enjoyed it and I would do anything for you next time you have a itch you need scratched can you remind yourself that friends don’t help out in those areas’ he replied sarcastically.

Liz flinched, he was angry and she couldn’t blame him but did he honestly think after everything that they could start again?.

‘I’m sorry I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that’ Max whispered then.

‘It’s ok’ she replied.

‘But next time lets not do this’ he told her.

‘Yeah, I’m sorry it was wrong of me’ she replied.

‘It’s not like I put up a fight’ he shrugged.

Silence descended then.

‘I’ve started dating someone, Max’ Liz’s voice broke the silence.

Max swung his legs over the bed turning his back on her ‘yeah so I heard’ he whispered.

‘Are you going to be ok with that?’ she asked then.

‘I’m going to have to be’ he said then ‘I just want you to be happy Liz’ he told her then.

‘and obviously I have the opposite effect’ he whispered so lowly that even Liz didn’t hear him.

He pulled on his boxers then before turning around and leaving a loving kiss on her forehead ‘I’m going to get out of here’

He stood up then and put on the rest of his clothes.

‘Bye’ Liz smiled happy that things had gone better than she had thought.

‘Bye’ he smiled back for her sake but the moment he was out of the house and in his car Max let the tears fall.

Part 6

From Part 4 (Present Time)

Present Time

‘Liz’ he sighed in reply before pulling back.

‘Max, What?’ she turned to him when she felt the loss of his touch.

‘Do you love me Liz?’ he asked her.

‘Y-Yes’ she replied.

‘Do you want to be in love with me?’ he asked her then.

Liz hesitated for a moment ‘Y-Yes I miss you so much’ she started crying

‘I love you too and I miss you so much’ he replied.

‘D-Do you trust me?’

‘Yes’ she answered and she did, he had earned that trust from her in the past six months.

‘I-I want to be with you Liz, completely’ he told her then. ‘I cant do this halfway again it almost killed me last time’ he whispered.

Liz realised how selfish she was being. It hadn’t been the first time she had gone to Max with pure need but it was different this time.

‘I-I want to be with you too’ she told him then.

Max lifted his eyes to her then ‘Really?’ he asked hopefully. He never thought he would hear those words from Liz’s lips. He didn’t deserve to after everything he had put her through including what his future self had done.

Liz nodded tearily ‘Yes I don’t feel complete with you’ she told him. It was why she had been unable to move forward with Kyle no matter what she did. She had talked to Maria about it for countless hours and it always came back to the same thing. Liz loved Max completely and there was nothing left over for another man and in the end Maria had helped Liz realise that she needed to make a choice. She didn’t think she was ready to do that yet which is why she had chickened out when she had started to end things with Kyle, and had accepted another date instead. But now being faced with what she could loose and the truth that being apart from her was hurting Max as much as it was hurting her the decision was easy to make.

Max moved forward slowly ‘And Kyle?’ he asked, he had to know.

‘I-I tried to end it tonight but then I chickened out’ she told him.

‘You don’t want to be with him?’ he asked.

‘No, I thought I did, god I tried but he’s just not you’ he told him.

Max knelt down in front of her then and took her hands in his. ‘Do you think we can do this?’ he asked her.

‘Yes if we let go’ she told him with a small smile.

‘I want that so much. I just want to love you and be a family with you and the twins’ he told her. ‘M-My divorce came through today’ he whispered then. He couldn’t explain the feelings that overcame him when his father had called him and told him it was over. He felt so relieved and he had wanted to run and tell Liz straight away but she was out with Kyle.

Liz’s face lit up then ‘Really?’

‘Yes’ his smile equaled her own.

‘So she’s out of your life for good?’ she questioned.

Max frowned ‘You know that we still have to keep an eye on her there is stuff she can still do, but Michael is taking care of that for me so I only have to have minimum contact with her and even then Michael is always with me’ he told her.

‘I trust you, I just don’t want her having any claim to you anymore’ she admitted.

‘She doesn’t and I had my father request that she relinquish and use of my surname and she agreed to it’ he told her.

‘That’s good’ she smiled shyly she couldn’t deny that the thought of there being another Mrs. Evans out there because of her relationship to Max didn’t appeal to her. But right now she was thinking way to far ahead, they were just starting out no one had said anything about marriage.

‘Yeah it is, because you’re the only person I want being called Mrs. Evans around here, apart from my mother’ he told her with a shy smile.

Liz looked up at him then ‘me too’ she whispered.

‘Stay with me tonight?’ she asked him then.

‘Oh course but just to sleep’ he told her.

Liz bit her lip, could she really have Max in her bed and not touch him.

‘Just until you sort things out with Kyle’ he assured her.

‘Your right’ she agreed with him. She had already cheated on Kyle with Max and she had felt very guilty about it.

Max handed her a nightgown then and helped her gently into it before pulling off his jeans and shirts leaving him in only his boxers before climbing into bed behind her.

‘Night sweetie’ he whispered giving her a loving kiss.

‘Night Max’ she sighed happily and for the first time in twelve years Liz and Max both slept peacefully.

***

Liz sat nervously left in the booth of the Crashdown waiting for Kyle. She had made it her first priority this morning after Max had left for work to call him and ask him to meet her for lunch. Her parents had been surprised to see her when she waddled into the diner earlier her mother telling her she should be at home. Sitting there uncomfortably now she had to agree with them and was glad that at the end of the week Max would be finished for the summer.

‘Waiting for Kyle?’ her father asked as he brought over a glass of juice for her.

‘Um yeah’ Liz said nervously.

Her parents had been a little freaked out over the whole situation Liz had found herself in and she couldn’t really blame them. Three months after coming back to Roswell for the first time in ten years she has to tell them that’s she’s pregnant to an already married man, but even though he had left his wife they weren’t going to be together. Add to the mix that she started dating Kyle and let Max move in with her she was beginning to seem like a crazy person.

‘How’s that going?’ her father asked. He had always liked Kyle but him and Liz just didn’t seem to work.

‘Oh well, actually’ she began to tell him that she was going to break it off with him when the bells jingled and Kyle walked into the restaurant.

‘Speak of the devil’ Jeff Parker smiled.

‘Mr. Parker’ Kyle smiled before leaning over to greet Liz with a kiss ‘Princess’ he smiled.

‘Hi Kyle’ they greeted him together.

‘What would you two like?’ Jeff asked them then.

‘I’ll have that chicken salad you were talking about’ Liz told him. Burgers and fries didn’t sit well with the twins these days.

‘I’ll have the special and a cherry coke’ Kyle replied.

‘Ok I’ll leave you two too it’ he smiled then.

‘This is a nice surprise’ Kyle smiled reaching his hand over to take Liz’s.

‘Yeah I needed to talk to you about something’ she told him.

‘Ok’

‘It’s about what we were talking about last night’ she told him.

‘Which part?’ he asked confused.

‘Kyle, I really like you and you’ve come to mean a lot to me but I cant be in a relationship with you anymore’ she told him gently. She decided to get right to the point and use the band aid effect.

‘I thought we sorted that out?’ he asked.

‘No, we avoided it’ she told him.

‘Why?’ he asked her then. He had fallen in love with Liz all over again over the past six months since her return and he knew that if Max Evans would stay out of their lives they could be happy together.

‘This isn’t because of Evans is it?’ he asked her.

The look on Liz’s face said it all ‘Your still in love with him aren’t you?’ he asked hurt.

‘Yes’ she replied.

‘And do you think he loves you?’ he asked.

‘I know he does’ she told him her face showing the guilt she felt.

‘What’s going on between you?’ he demanded then.

‘Nothing, yet’ she told him.

‘Yet?’ he asked.

Liz nodded.

Mr. Parker brought over their food and Kyle’s drink then and immediately noticed the tension between the two. He had a fair idea what was probably going on and he felt bad for Kyle it was very clear that he loved Liz but it was also clearer where Liz’s feelings lied.

‘I don’t understand Liz’ Kyle said breaking the silence that had descended while they ate.

‘It doesn’t matter what he does. I mean he married someone else and he continued to fuck up your life why would you want a man like that?’

His words made Liz feel stupid and once again she felt her anger rise at having to defend herself and Max. ‘You don’t know anything about it Kyle. I’m the one who got hurt not you’ she spat.

‘Exactly and what makes you think he’s not going to do it all over again when something else alien comes up?’

Liz shook her head no one ever got it. Didn’t they realise that in every other time line that Liz and Max were together in that everything was better. Sure there were still problems but nothing like the ones they were facing. And they were happy.

The diner was filling up by this stage and neither Kyle or Liz had noticed that Tess was sitting in the booth behind them listening to their conversation.

‘Look Kyle I don’t have to justify my actions to you. I never wanted to hurt you and I’m sorry if I have but I love Max. In a couple of months we’re going to be a family and I want to share that with him in everyway. I’m sick of hiding from my feelings and you should be glad about that because you deserve so much more than what I have to give you’ she told him.

Kyle’s head fell. ‘I love him Kyle’ she told him sincerely.

‘And I love you’ he told her his eyes shimmering with tears. He had planned to ask her to marry him before the twins were born. He hoped that maybe she would consider sharing her family with him but once again all the women in his life always left him for Max Evans. None of them knew but he did, Tess had been his before she started dating Evans and one day he just took her from him and now he was doing it all over again.

‘He always takes everything’ he whispered.

‘Kyle, he didn’t take me from you because I was never yours to begin with’ she told him sadly. ‘Max has owned my heart and soul for a long time’

Getting up from the booth Kyle threw down some money ‘I’ll see you around Liz’ he said and quickly walked off.

Liz laid her head in her hands and cried because she knew she had just lost a friend, good friend.

Tess took the opportunity to sneak out of the restaurant then. She was seething, did that human bitch just think she could come to town and take everything that belonged to her. First she sleeps with her husband then he sides with her and takes her powers and gives them to her. Now she thinks they’re going to be a family, she laughed. Tess had been happy to hide in the shadows and watch her soon to be ex-husband miserable over the past 6 months watching his precious Liz date Kyle but he had gone to far when he had moved in with her and now that the divorce was final apparently Liz was ready to move forward too. Well she had news for Liz Parker, Max was hers and she didn’t care what she had to do to keep him.

TBC.... I'm a little annoyed at the moment so who knows?

Part 7

A few hours after retuning to his apartment Kyle was pulled out of his sulking by a knock on the door. He hoped it would be Liz on the other side when he went to open it hoping that she had changed her mind about going back to Evan’s.

Thinking back on it now Kyle realised when he had lost her. Liz had been so determined to move on with her life, which is why she had finally agreed to go out with him. He had seen the change in her, that sparkle in her eye that she held only for Max, it had disappeared and it had given Kyle some hope which is why he had started pursing her. Liz was a different person from the teenager that she used to be and that had made him believe that they were now perfect for each other. But he saw now clearly what had happened.

3 Month Earlier

Kyle had been trying to get in contact with Liz all day hoping to make plans with her but she was answering at home or on her cell. He had no idea where she could be so he decided to swing by the house. He was surprised to find her car was still parted in the driveway but no one answered the door.

He decided to wait and was sitting on the porch when Max pulled up with Liz in the passenger seat a half an hour later.

‘Kyle, what are you doing here?’ she asked.

‘I’ve been trying to get in contact with you but you weren’t answering any of your phones, I was worried’ he shrugged trying to ignore the fact that Max had also exited the SUV and was glaring at him.

‘Oh well I don’t get reception out in the dessert’ she told him.

‘The dessert, what were you doing out there?’ he asked.

‘Training’ she told him.

‘Training for what?’ he asked her.

Max had stood back watching the scene in concern, but more importantly watching Liz. Something was off with her but he couldn’t put his finger on it.

‘Maybe we should move this inside’ he told them.

‘Yeah Liz and I should but this has nothing to do with you Evans’ Kyle snapped.

‘Kyle, I think you should calm down’ Max said watching Liz’s brow furrow with something. He wasn’t sure if it was annoyance, pain or just clearly frustration he couldn’t get a read because her emotions were all over the place.

‘Fuck off Max’ Kyle snapped grabbing Liz’s arms and moving her towards the house.

Max saw red the minute Kyle put his hand on Liz in the manor that he did.

‘Get your hands off me’ Liz roared before Max had the opportunity to do something about it.

Kyle released his hands but quickly stormed after Liz in to her house.

‘This isn’t over Liz, what were you training for?’ he asked her.

It became apparent to Max that Liz hadn’t told Kyle everything about the day at the granolith but he chose to stay out of it for now. He wouldn’t leave though until he knew Liz was ok her safety came first.

Max watched as Liz stood with her back to Kyle taking deep breaths. He could tell she was trying to get her emotions under control but he also knew she was at breaking point.

‘Kyle stop’ Max demanded then. ‘She’s not in any state to do this with you right now’ he told him gesturing for Kyle to take a good look at the way Liz was trying to get control of her anger.

‘She wouldn’t be in this state if you didn’t have her in the dessert risking her and her children’s life’ he yelled ‘what kind of a father are you anyway?’ he sneered.

Before Max could react defensively or offensively Liz lost control and sent a blast right at Kyle’s chest throwing him across the room and searing his stomach.

‘Liz?’ Max rushed towards her as she crumbled to the ground. He checked her quickly before laying her on the ground and rushing over to Kyle.

‘Kyle!’ he yelled at him. He checked his pulse and found he was still alive.

‘Kyle you have to look at me!’ he yelled again slapping Kyle’s face to get him to wake up enough so he could heal him.

‘Oh God Max’ Liz’s anguish cry reached his ears.

‘It’s ok Liz I’ll fix it’ Max assured her.

A second later Kyle’s eyes opened and Max was able to make the connection. He healed the burns and the concussion that Kyle had.

Liz crawled over to them when she had the strength ‘What did I do?’ she asked Max.

‘You blasted him sweetie’ he told her.

‘Oh god’ she cried.

‘Shh it’s ok, he’s fine and it wasn’t like he helped the situation.

Liz wouldn’t listen though instead she began to sob.

Liz was still crying when a confused Kyle came too. By this stage Max had her in his lap on the couch rocking her in a comforting manner.

‘What’s wrong with her?’ Kyle asked immediately.

‘She’s upset because of what she did?’ he told him.

‘What did she do? And why was I on the floor?’ he asked.

‘You don’t remember?’ Max asked him.

Kyle shook his head. He moved to take Liz out of Max’s arms but Max wouldn’t allow it ‘Leave her’ he snapped.

‘She blasted you. You were yelling at her and she asked you to stop but you wouldn’t listen to her. Her emotions were all out of control and you said something you shouldn’t have and she blasted you’ he explained. He noticed that Liz’s had seemed to have cried herself to sleep then and gently slid a hand down her body and allowed the connection with his children to come to life. They were confused and upset because of their mother’s emotions.

‘She has powers?’ Kyle asked shocked.

‘Yes’ Max told him. He was going to give him any other information though that would be up to Liz.

‘Is she going to be ok?’ he asked worriedly.

‘I’m not sure. It’s not all your fault she was completely out on control before you started’ he tried to console him.

‘Thanks for trying Evans but you don’t know that’ Kyle shook his head felling terrible.

‘Yes I do’ Max told him. ‘Her emotions have been out of control for days and she hasn’t been eating you were just the last straw’

‘How do you know all of this?’ Kyle asked suspiciously.

‘I can feel her but I also spend a lot of time watching out for her when she doesn’t realise’ he admitted.

‘T-Thanks’ Kyle said.

‘Why are you thanking me? It’s purely selfish. I love Liz and I love my children and I would do anything for them. If I have to sit outside and watch her 24/7 I will’ he told him.

Liz shifted on Max’s lap then ‘Max’ she sighed in her sleep a smile covering her lips. Max stared down at her and brushed the hair off her face. ‘Home’ she sighed again.

Max shifted on the couch ‘Go home Kyle I’ve got her’ he assured him. Kyle wanted to object but the hold Liz had on Max at that moment told him it wasn’t only Max that would argue so he left.

It had been as though a new bond had formed with them after that. Sure they had talked things out and decided to be friends but they were aware of each other on a totally different level. Max would be at Liz’s house every morning with breakfast just to make sure she ate right. Kyle would find notes and flowers all over the house but most of all even when he wasn’t around Kyle felt Max’s presence watching over Liz.

Kyle opened the door hopefully then but he wasn’t greeted with the brown hair and eyes he hoped for instead it was blonde curls with ice blue eyes, eyes that only spelt one thing as far as he was concerned. Trouble.

‘Hi’ she smiled.

‘What do you want?’ Kyle did not smile back.

Tess could tell immediately that Kyle had been drinking and smiled, hopefully that would help her plan go a lot smoothly.

‘Can I come in?’ she asked him.

‘Why?’ he asked suspiciously. Liz had informed him she no longer had powers but she had also told him to never trust her and that he should ring Michael if she did anything.

‘Truthfully Kyle I kind of heard what happened at the Crashdown and I wanted to check on you’ she told him.

‘Well thanks but I don’t need your help’ he snapped.

Tess frowned. ‘What happened Kyle we used to be friends, practically family’ she said then. Her act was good even she had to admit that. Sure at one time Kyle had meant a lot to her but just like Max he had always been hung up on that pitiful excuse for a women Liz Parker.

‘Yeah your right and then we became lovers until you dumped me for a new role, Max’s sloppy seconds was the role if I’m not mistaken’ he laughed.

Tess bit back a nasty reply and for the billionth time since her powers had been removed wished she could use them so she could blast him.

‘Your right I didn’t handle that situation very well and I’m sorry. But right now I realise your hurting and I thought I might be a good person to talk to since I know how you feel. I mean lets face it, who better to commiserate over Max and Liz’s conquering love than their ex’s?’

‘Hmm somehow I don’t think that’s what you have in mind’ He told her suspiciously but stepped back regardless to let her into the apartment.

Tess scanned the place trying to find what she was looking for or an indication of where it might be. Her plan was simple she was just annoyed that she needed Kyle Valenti to pull it off.

‘Want a drink?’ he grumbled.

‘Yeah a coke if you’ve got one’ she responded with a smile.

Kyle took off towards the kitchen and Tess too the opportunity to look around then. By the time Kyle came back Tess still hadn’t found what she was looking for so accepted her drink and sat down to watch Kyle down the rest of a bottle of Jack Daniels.

‘You wanna fuck me, Tess?’ he slurred leaning in and kissing her neck. Tess was totally disgusted but she couldn’t think of anything else that would gain he access into Kyle’s bedroom without him getting suspicious. The bathroom was nowhere near it and Kyle didn’t look ready to pass out yet.

Reaching down Tess cupped Kyle through his jeans. This wouldn’t be so bad she thought. One thing she remembered clearly was that Kyle was great in bed.

‘Yeah I’m really horny’ she purred into his ear whilst rubbing him.

Standing up Kyle quickly lifted his shirt over his head before making quick work of the rest of his clothes and before Tess knew it he was standing in front of her naked except for a hard on.

Tess could help but lick her lips, she forgot how impressive he was and after no sex for months she was horny.

Kyle helped drunkenly remove Tess's clothes before throwing her on the couch; he was just about the thrust into her when Tess objected.

‘Kyle cant we do this in your bed?’ she asked sweetly.

Kyle shook his head ‘Whatever’ he told her before getting up and stalking into his room. Tess followed eagerly, happy that her plan was working. Once in his room Kyle threw her down on the bed and quickly pushed into her.

Tess wrapped her legs around his waist as he rocked into her. There was nothing loving about what he was doing he was fucking her hard and deep.

‘Liz’ he moaned.

Tess felt her blood boil at the sound of that name of his lips.

‘Oh yes Kyle’ she moaned deciding to play along.

‘Oh fuck yes Liz, oh yeah’ he cried.

It wasn’t long till Tess was coming hard once again reminded of Kyle’s sexual prowess and wondering if Liz Parker even had the guts to try him out, she doubted it though. Kyle came quickly after her crying out Liz’s name to her disgust before dropping down beside her and quickly falling asleep.

As soon as Tess was convinced he wasn’t going to wake up she quickly slipped off the bed and began her search. She found it quite quickly in his bedside drawer and after re-dressing and quickly left the apartment.

Part 8

Liz sighed she sunk into the couch. Her talk with Kyle had gone as badly as she had expected and right now all she wanted to do was sit back and relax, and forget about it.

Her eyes had just drifted shut when though when someone rang the doorbell. It took her a few minutes to push herself out of the couch and make her way to the door.

‘Can I help you’ she asked the person on the other side.

‘Hi I have a delivery for Elizabeth Parker’ the man advised before producing a stunning arrangement of white and red roses.

‘Oh thank you’ she grinned.

‘Just sign here’ he told her handing her the clipboard for her to sign.

Since the flower arrangement was in a box Liz brought them with her and placed them on the coffee table in front of her before pulling out the card and reading it.

My Darling Liz

Would you allow me the pleasure of accompanying me to dinner tomorrow night at 7 o’clock?

All My Love,

Max

Liz’s smile widened, sometimes she forgot how sweet and romantic Max could be and she had to admit that she thought the idea of them starting all over again was completely sweet even though it had completely shocked her when he had suggested it.

That morning

Liz woke up to find Max’s beautiful amber eyes smiling back at her.

‘Hi’ he whispered.

Liz grinned wider when she remembered everything that had happened the night before. Even though they hadn’t made love they had finally talked about everything they were feeling and had decided to try again.

‘Hey’ she replied.

Max was unsure how Liz would react this morning so he hesitantly leant in being careful to give her enough time to pull away. Liz had no intention on pulling away thought; in fact she leant in and met him half way. Max’s lips were soft and gentle against hers as he softly brushed them across. Liz put her hands around Max’s neck in an attempt to pull him closer and deepen the kiss but before she could Max pulled away.

‘What?’ Liz asked.

‘Not yet I want to do this properly’ he told her leaning his forehead against hers. ‘I want to start all over again. Take you on dates and taking the time to do all this right’ he told her.

Liz had smiled ‘You want to date me?’ she had asked a little surprised.

‘Yes’ he told her.

‘Don’t you think it’s a little late for than considering I’m pregnant’ she had laughed.

‘No, I think it’s long overdue’ he had replied so seriously.

‘Max, soon I won’t even be able to walk’ she had objected.

‘Well then I’ll have to bring the dates to you’ he had told her.

‘But we live together!’

‘I know’ Max sighed. ‘And I know this probably seems stupid considering how past history but it’s because of that history that I want to take the time to do this right sweetie. I still have so much to make up for and just like we’ve spent the last 6 months getting to know each other and trying to recover our friendship I want to do the same thing with out relationship’ he explained.

‘Okay but how slow are we talking?’ she asked him.

‘I don’t know, lets just see how things go’ he suggested.

‘Ok’ she smiled before leaning in for another kiss. This time it was Max’s hand that came around Liz, sinking into her hair and deepening the kiss. He allowed their tongues to dual for sometime before finally pulling back.

‘I better get up or I’m going to be late’ he smiled.

‘Only a few more days to go’ she reminded him.

‘Yeah I know, I can’t wait’ he told her. He couldn’t wait till school was and he could concentrate on spending time with her and getting everything ready for the twins arrival. Both him and Liz were certain now that there was no way the twins would be going full term and every day he had to leave her and go to work he worried about her.

Liz yawned as she watched Max get out of bed and walk into her bathroom. She liked the idea of waking up with him every morning and couldn’t wait till they reached the stage of their relationship where it would happen. [/I]

***

Max smiled when he entered the house and found Liz asleep on the couch with his flowers on the coffee table in front of her. He was glad that she had received them he had been nervous about asking her on a date by sending flowers thinking she would find the idea childish but he wanted to prove to her that he was serious about her and, and proving to her that he loved her.

He decided to head straight into the kitchen and make a start on dinner suspecting that Liz probably hadn’t all that much to eat today. He just began preparing a pasta sauce when the phone went off and he quickly jumped on it hoping to get to it before it woke Liz up.

‘Hello’ he answered.

‘Maxwell’ Michael replied.

‘Hey Mike, what’s going on?’ he asked.

‘Not much just checking in’ he told him. They liked to do that every now and then, it was important that they kept on guard with everything that was happening around them.

‘How’s Liz?’ he asked.

‘Um asleep but good’ he told him.

‘How much longer do you think?’ he asked.

Liz had began training a couple of weeks after the day at the granolith and had been making significant progress in using the mind warp and blasting powers she had until her and Max had decided that the training was becoming to strenuous on Liz and the twins. One day the training had left her so drained that she slept for close to 24 hours straight and Max had spent 12 of it sitting by her bedside. Michael believed that Liz and the twins would both be safer once they were born, especially because then Liz could return to training with the rest of them.

‘Well they’ve been very active lately but we haven’t got anything much from them. I hope they don’t stay in there for too much longer though because Liz is getting so big she wont be able to get around soon’ he informed him.

‘Yeah I saw her waddling into the Crashdown today’ he said.

‘Today, really?’ Max asked surprised. He didn’t think she was going anywhere today.

‘Yeah I was going to stop in but I was on Tess watching’ he explained.

‘Oh and what’s she been up to?’ he asked slightly concerned.

‘I’m not sure she went into the Crashdown for a little while, and when she left she head towards Kyle’s’ he informed Max.

‘Kyle’s?’ he asked concerned.

‘Well it was his complex and she went in there and she came out about an hour later so I’m assuming it was Kyle’s she visited. After that she went straight home and the sensors I put in haven’t indicated that she’s left’

‘Okay’ Max sighed. He wished they could wipe their hands of her, or even demand that she left Roswell but she was still a liability and one he couldn’t afford to have working against him.

‘I’ve been monitoring all her phone calls to, Alex was able to bug her phone at home and at work with yours Dads ok and he even managed to get one on her cell now too’ he informed Max. They were taking extreme measures to monitor all of Tess’s activities. His father had actually wanted to sack her after her little incident at the Evans home but after discussing it with the group they had decided it was better to keep your friends close but your enemies closer and being able to monitor Tess’s activities with worked helped. Philip had promised to ensure that Tess wasn’t given any work that would require her to travel and if it was unavoidable he would give them plenty of notice to ensure that someone would be able to track her.

‘I actually wanted to talk to you about getting some security installed here’ Max said then.

‘What type?’ Michael asked. Luckily they had a unique resource in Alex who was able to pretty much get his hands on anything they need without setting off any flags.

‘I’m not sure but I think some surveillance and some sensor alarms on some of the windows and doors would be a good idea, especially in the babies room’ he informed him.

‘Okay I’ll get Alex to look into it’ Michael advised. It was remarkable how naturally Michael had slipped in his second in command role. It was as though Liz coming into the four completed them in a way that Tess never could. Max felt like a King and could make decisions that were needed unlike he had been able to in the past. Michael too had began backing Max up rather than fighting him and had taken a more active role in the safety of the group.

‘Thanks Michael. I hate the fact that you have to take time out of your life to clean up my mistakes’ Max apologized.

‘Don’t even, Maxwell’ Michael told him ‘your not the only one that was guilty of trusting her and thankfully she hadn’t done that much damage anyhow’

Michael spoke the truth. Tess had been rather helpful during their trip to New York. In fact thanks to Nescedo Tess had a lot more information on Nicholas and their dupes than they had on Tess and the rest of them. It was discovered that her trip to New York was her first meeting with them, she was simply trying to re-establish a back up plan in case things with Max went sour over Liz’s return, which ultimately it had.

So in the end it had been rather easy for Michael to take Nicholas out. Tess had set up a meeting with him and Nicholas didn’t know what hit him when he found out he was out numbered by Isabel and Michael. The result simple, Nicholas was dust. They did some surveillance on their dupes afterwards and what they discovered was that without Nicholas they were pretty harmless. Isabel had been appalled at the way they lived but it had been Michael that reminded her that they hadn’t been given the opportunity to grow up like the rest of them, even Tess’s like with Nascedo had been a holiday in contrast to the dupes life, only Michael was really in a position to understand.

By the time Max ended his phone call with Michael the pasta and sauce were ready.

He went about setting the table before making his way into the lounge room to wake Liz up.

Kneeling down in front of he slipped a hand over the bump on her stomach and formed a connection with their children.

‘Hi Daddy’ he heard them call out.

Max sent them waves of love and told them he couldn’t wait for them to be born to which they had both assured him that they would see him soon.

When the connection ended Max leaned up and placed a gently kiss on Liz’s lips.

‘Hmm’ she sighed.

Max smiled before leaning in again and this time leaving his lips there longer and applying a little more pressure.

When he pulled back he watched in amusement as Liz’s eyes fluttered open.

‘Hi beautiful’ he greeted her.

‘Hi yourself’ she replied sleepily before stretching.

‘What smells so wonderful?’ she asked him then the aroma of the past he made reaching her and enticing her.

‘That would be dinner so why don’t you go wash up’ he suggested.

‘Help me up?’ she asked sheepishly.

Max nodded before standing up and assisting her but instead of letting go once she was standing Liz wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him down for a passionate kiss. Her tongue immediately invaded his mouth, teasing and tempting him, as she tasted him.

When they pulled apart Max looked surprised ‘What was that for?’ he asked.

‘Well other than the fact I wanted to say hello it was to say thank you for the beautiful flowers and to tell you that I would love to have diner with you tomorrow night’ she laughed.

‘Good’ he smiled lovingly.

‘I can’t wait’ she told him.

‘Me either’

Part 9

Liz and Max wandered hand in hand down the main street the next night. They had enjoyed a beautiful dinner at Senor Chows followed by a short dance. It had reminded Liz of the date so many years ago, that date that had started and ended everything but this time she knew that it was only a start, that there was no ending in sight.

‘Thank you for tonight’ Liz told him, smiling lovingly up at him.

‘Your welcome’ she smiled back.

They had decided to go for a small walk before heading home, Liz had been feeling uncomfortable all day and they hoped that a walk would help her sleep better that night.

They stopped momentarily when Liz felt a sharp pain go through her.

‘Liz?’ Max questioned worriedly.

Liz took a few deep breaths and waited for the pain to subside. ‘I’m okay’ she tried to assure him.

‘I think we should get you home’ he told her worriedly. The twins hadn’t given them any indication that they were ready to be born during the several times he had insisted on connecting with them throughout the afternoon and night. But they had no way of telling if the twins had much control over the situation.

‘Yeah I think that’s a good idea’ Liz agreed with him and allowed him to assist her back towards where they had parked the SUV.

‘I hope you didn’t mind going back to Senor Chows’ Max said then ‘I wasn’t sure if it would be a nice idea or a totally bad one’ he told her.

‘Well it was really nice. It’s where it began ten years ago remember’ she reminded him.

Bringing her hand up to his lips to kiss ‘Yeah your right’ he replied.

Max helped Liz into the SUV and was getting ready to pull out when his cell phone went off. He was reluctant to answer it, wanting to concentrate on driving and getting Liz home but then he noticed that it was Michael.

‘Michael?’ he answered. He was sure that everyone knew that him and Liz had a date that night so he was wondering why Michael would even consider bothering him unless it was important.

‘Maxwell where are you?’ Michael asked his voice edged with concern.

‘Leaving the restaurant. Why?’ he asked.

‘Are you on your way home?’ he asked.

‘Yes. Michael what’s going on?’ he asked reaching over to squeeze Liz’s hand in reassurance. He could feel her worry over the phone call coming off her in waves.

‘I’m not sure but Tess is out and about and I have no idea where. By the time I could react to the sensors she was gone’ he explained.

Max sighed. ‘Look Michael, I don’t think there is too much damage that she could do at the moment and I have more important things to worry about’

‘Why, what’s wrong?’ Michael demanded.

Max exchanged looks with Liz then not sure if he should mention her pains when all of a sudden her face contorted again.

‘Liz, are you okay?’ he asked grabbing her hand.

Liz took deep breaths and clutched onto Max’s hands.

‘Um I think we should get home’ she told him.

‘Ok’ he agreed. He watched as Liz let a hand rest on top of her abdomen and saw the connection open.

‘Listen Michael we’re not sure what’s going on but it’s possible that Liz might be going into labor’ he explained. He had started driving now and was only a few blocks from the house.

‘What!’ Michael yelled. They didn’t need this right now. They had a loose alien on their hands and Michael had no idea where she was and as far as he was concerned Liz or the twins would be safe until he found her.

‘You heard me. I’ll let you know after I have the chance to check her out’ he assured him.

‘Ok’ Michael grumbled.

Max pulled into the driveway and was practically out of the car before it had stopped, racing around to open Liz’s door and help her out.

‘Max’ Liz smiled when she saw the panic in his eyes ‘I’m okay at the moment the pain has passed’ she assured him.

‘I know but it could be contractions and they could just be far apart at the moment’ he told her.

Liz smiled then. Both her and Max had done a lot of reading on pregnancies and parenting but Max had taken it a whole lot further. He had read everything on the internet and at the library he could find about delivering babies and medical procedures wanting to be as prepared as possible for the arrival of his children.

‘Max’ she giggled.

‘Liz humor me please sweetie’

‘Okay’ she agreed.

Max wanted to lift her into his arms and carry her into the house but Liz would have none of it, insisting that she was more than capable of walking. Max reached for his keys to unlock the door when he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.

Liz was leaning against the pole waiting for Max to unlock the doors when she heard the obvious sound of a gun’s safety being turned off.

The minute Max turned around and saw Tess standing there with a gun pointed at Liz instinct went into play. He knew that Liz was standing too far away for his shield to reach her; Liz also acknowledged this by the look in her eyes.

‘I love you’ she mouthed.

Max wasted no time and just as Tess released the bullet that was intended to take away Liz Parker’s life, Max launched himself in front of her and at the same time sending a deadly blast in Tess’s directions.

***

Michael sighed in frustration as he rounded the corner into the street Max and Liz lived in. He had been looking for Tess for the past two hours and couldn’t find her anywhere. He decided to come and check on the Liz’s situation and run some checks of the perimeter to ensure Tess wasn’t hiding around there somewhere.

He was only two houses away when he heard the ear-piercing scream.

***

Liz waited for the familiar impact of the bullet to enter her body. She took comfort in the seconds before it hit her that she knew what to expect and only prayed that Tess had aimed it far enough away from the twins that Max would be able to save them.

With one last ‘I love you’ to Max and her children she closed her eyes and accepted her fate.

It never came so after a few seconds Liz opened her eyes.

Tess was lying on the ground where she had been standing, Max obviously taking her out. It was then that Liz noticed that Max was on the ground at her feet.

‘Max’ she called to him and the only response she received was a faint groan.

‘Oh god no’ she cried falling to her feet and pulling Max’s body over. The problem was obvious; blood was flowing from the wound in his heart steadily.

‘No, No’ she cried. ‘Max, you have to wake up and heal yourself’ she cried.

Max’s eyes fluttered open but Liz could clearly see the life draining out of them as every second ticked by.

‘Don’t do this to me. We need you’ she begged the tears falling from her face and hitting Max’s.

‘Love you’ he whispered ‘every breath, love you, twins, love you’ he told her.

‘No please don’t’ she begged.

‘Tell Iz, Mike love them’ he whispered.

‘No Max don’t say that you just have to heal yourself’ she told him reaching down and placing his hand on the wound.

‘Cant’ he chocked out.

‘Max you cant do this, the twins are coming what are we going to do without you. What am I going to do’ she begged with him.

‘Move on baby, live life’ he choked out.

‘I don’t want to live my life without you’ she cried.

‘Be happy’ he told her.

‘Don’t you get it Max, you’re the love of my life there is never going to be another you’ she cried.

‘Love you so much’ he whispered.

‘I love you too, I will love you to the day I die’ she cried.

And with the last words Max Evans eyes closed and his soul scattered.

The only sound heard was the sound of Liz Parker howling in a mixture of agony from the loss of her soul mate and the intensity of pain as her son and daughter planned their untimely entrance to the world.

***

Michael didn’t even turn the car off as he pulled it out the front of the house. He could hear and see Liz as clear as day but once he reached the house and saw the limp body of Max Evans in the arms of women he loved and the women that had always loved him Michael Guerin was brought to his knees.

‘Liz’ he questioned frantically.

‘H-He’s gone Michael’ she sobbed before another scream took over as a contraction hit her.

‘Oh God’ Michael cried.

He was torn between breaking down and crying over the scene in front of him and the fact that it was clear that Liz was in labor. He knew that Max would never forgive him if something happened to Liz or the twins so closing his eyes he shut out the pain that he wanted to feel and focused on what was important.

He pulled himself together before moving to pick up Liz.

‘No’ she screamed trying to hold on to Max.

‘Liz I know you don’t want to leave him but either do I. But Max would want you to concentrate on the twins right now’ he told her.

‘Max’ she cried again as Michael carried her sobbing body into the already open house.

‘I need to call Iz and Maria’ he told her.

He knew once they saw Max that neither would be in any position to deliver the twins and that in the end it would be his responsibility. He deserved it. He had failed Max. He should have been keeping a better eye on Tess.

He was jus about pick up the phone when he heard another scream.

“Michael; she cried out.

‘What’s wrong?’ he rushed into the room.

‘No. Time’ she told him Her dress was around her waist and she was panting. ‘Coming now’ she told him.

Part 10

‘Liz you just have to hold on ok’ he told her.

The phone rang a couple of times before someone picked up.

‘Hello’ Alex said into the phone.

‘Alex its Michael I’m at Liz’s, get Isabel over here now and call Maria and the Sheriff’ he demanded just before Liz released another scream.

‘Michael is that Liz?’ he asked worriedly.

‘Yes Alex, tell Isabel to get here now’ he told him before quickly hanging up.

‘Max’ Liz cried out again.

Liz’s cry reminded Michael of the situation he had outside and hating to leave Liz he knew he couldn’t leave Isabel to find Max that way. He raced outside and within a few minutes was back, he had placed a sheet over Tess and had Max in his arms and carried him into the living room being careful to place him behind the couch where no one would be able to see him.

Liz began sobbing harder when she saw Max’s limp body.

‘Okay Liz tell me what you need me to do’ He asked her then.

‘No Michael Max was supposed to be here’ she sobbed.

‘I know, Liz but he cant’ Michael whispered painfully.

Michael did his best to help Liz through the pain, encouraging her to breathe like they did on TV and keeping a watch for the baby’s head which he could now see crowning.

‘Oh god I need to push’ she told him.

‘Oh, can you hold off another couple of minutes, Iz should be here’ Michael said.

‘No’ she screamed.

A minute later Isabel ran through the door.

‘Michael what’s going on, where’s Max?’ she demanded when she saw Michael was the one taking care of Liz.

‘Later Iz just do what you can’ he told her.

Isabel didn’t have time to argue as Liz started pushing, she barely had time to catch her nephew as he entered the world screaming.

‘Oh Liz, Alexander was born first’ she cried placing the new born baby on Liz’s chest.

‘Max’ she cried again as she reached out and traced her son’s chubby cheek, he looked so much like his father.

Isabel used her powers to cut the cord before instructing Michael to get all the things that she needed. ‘Hopefully you’ll have a bit of a breather before Claudia’ Isabel told her. Unable to stop the brilliant smile playing on her lips at the sight of Liz with her nephew, she just wished that Max was here to see this and once again wandered where he was.

Maria and the Sheriff raced through the house ‘Is everything ok?’ Maria asked Michael immediately.

‘No. Can you help Iz?’ he asked handing her the towels he had gone to get for her.

‘Alexander was just born’ he told her.

Maria happily took the towels and raced into the room to help Isabel and see if Liz and her nephew were okay.

Michael turned to the Sheriff.

‘Want to tell me what’s going on and who or what is under that blanket out there?’ Jim Valenti asked.

Michael sunk onto the bottom step ‘It’s Tess’ he informed him.

‘What! What the hell happened?’ he demanded. Regardless of the things that had happened over the years between Tess and Kyle and Tess’s recent expulsion from the group, Jim Valenti still considered Tess a daughter.

‘She killed Max’ he whispered.

‘W-What?’ Jim asked.

‘I-I don’t know exactly what happened but when I got here she was dead from a blast to the chest and Max was dead in Liz’s arms from a bullet’ he cried.

‘Oh god’ Jim Valenti leaned against the wall.

‘Where’s Max’s body?’ he asked then.

‘I brought him inside. I didn’t want Isabel to see it’ she admitted.

‘We’re not going to be able to cover this up completely you know that right?’ Jim said trying his hardes to pull himself together despite the pain he was feeling right now. Max was as close as his own son and he knew how hard his loss would be on his family and friends.

‘I know’ Michael replied.

‘We can’t move her so I’ll park the truck in front of her’ Michael nodded and followed him out.

***

Alex pulled up and walked over to where Michael was standing watching Jim Valenti look over the scene.

‘What’s going on?’ Alex asked then he saw was the Sheriff was looking at.

‘Is that Tess?’ he asked.

‘Yes’ Michael answered.

‘Is she dead?’

‘Yes’

‘What happened?’ he asked, shocked.

The Sheriff picked up the hand gun that Tess had used to shoot Max with then and looked at it. ‘This is Kyle’s’ he told Michael.

‘Shit’ Michael screamed ‘I should have known she was up to something when she went to his apartment the other day’

‘She was at Kyle’s?’ Jim asked concerned.

‘Yeah the other day’ Michael confirmed. ‘Why the hell would Kyle giver her that?’ he fumed.

‘Michael, Sheriff would someone please tell me what’s going on?’ Alex demanded then.

Jim could tell that Michael clearly wasn’t up to it ‘Tess shot Max tonight, Alex. They’re both dead’ he whispered.

‘Max is dead?’ Alex asked.

‘Yes’ he replied.

‘Oh god where’s Liz?’ he asked.

‘In labor’ Michael replied.

‘Does she know?’ he asked.

‘He died in her arms’

‘Oh god’ Alex sighed ‘Does Isabel know?’ he asked.

‘No’ Michael shook his head.

‘Why not?’ Alex asked outraged.

‘Because right now Liz is in labor and with out Max who was going to deliver the twins, Alex?. I know she’ll be pissed I didn’t tell her right away but I knew if I did she wouldn’t have been in any position to help Liz who isn’t in any condition to be in labor. The twins are important and Max wouldn’t have wanted anything to happen to them’ he argued.

‘You’re right’ Alex nodded ‘Sorry’

‘That’s okay. We should go inside and see if Claudia has put in an appearance yet’ he suggested then.

‘I’ll stay here and keep control of the situation but Michael, I’ll have to call it in soon’ he told him.

Michael nodded and took a step away but then he stopped ‘I have an idea’ Leaning down he concentrated on Tess and healed the burns from Max’s blast.

‘What are you doing?’ Alex demanded upset at the thought of Michael trying to heal Tess.

‘We cant have her looking like she was hit with a power blast, it needs to look as though she shot herself or something. Can we do that Sheriff?’

‘Um yeah I can take care of it’ he sighed sadly. He thought his days of helping these kids cover things up were long gone.

‘Thanks’ Michael replied.

***

‘Ok Liz I can see her head a couple more pushes and she’ll be here’ Isabel encouraged.

Liz had slipped back into heavy labor minutes after Alexander’s arrival only giving Isabel enough time to instruct Maria to take him and clean him up. Maria had now returned with a screaming Alexander who appeared to be very eager for the arrival of his sister.

‘I need, Max’ Liz cried out then her face turning to where she knew he was lying, dead.

Isabel and Maria exchanged looks then, neither knowing where he was.

‘I’ll try his cell’ Maria whispered to Isabel.

Maria picked up the phone in the kitchen and dialed the familiar number. The phone rang and rang but Max didn’t pick up and it eventually went to voice mail where she left an urgent message.

In the other room the ringing of a cell phone startled Isabel.

‘Ok, Liz one more push’ Isabel encouraged.

‘No answer’ Maria said when she came back into the room.

‘I think his cell might be on the lounge or something because I heard it ringing’ Isabel answered.

Maria walked towards the lounge and searched for the phone, when there was so no sign of it she looked behind it. What greeted her was a sight she knew she would never forget and as Claudia Isabella Evans entered the world with a scream it was overshadowed by that of her Aunt Maria.

***

Michael took off at a dead run at the sound of Maria screaming. He had adjusted himself to the sounds of Liz’s cries during labor and knew immediately that something was definitely wrong.

‘Maria’ he called out as he burst into the room.

Maria turned with a crying Alexander at the sound of his voice and with tear filled eyes pointed to the body of her husbands best friend, the body of her best friends love.

‘I know’ he cried before pulling her into his arms.

‘What’s going on?’ Isabel asked from her spot on the floor with Liz.

She had just finished tying off Claudia’s cord and was waiting for Maria to come and take her and clean her off.

Alexander’s cries reached Liz’s ears then and she called for her son. ‘bring him here please’ she begged.

Maria pulled herself from her husbands arms and for the first time was aware of the distraught look in her best friends eyes.

‘Isabel we need to talk to you’ Alex called to his wife.

‘What’s wrong?’ Isabel asked more than aware of the tension in the room now.

Her gaze drifted from her husband and life long friend to Maria who was comforting a sobbing Liz on the floor.

‘It’s Max’ Michael said.

‘Where is he?’ Isabel asked.

‘He’s gone Izzy’ Michael whispered allowing the tears he had been holding onto for Liz’s sake to fall.

‘W-What d-do you mean?’ a panicked Isabel asked.

Alex took a step towards his wife and grabbed her hand before pulling her to him.

‘Something happened tonight’ Alex said gently ‘and Max and Tess are dead’

‘What! No that’s just silly’ Isabel shook her head.

‘He died saving my life’ Liz’s whispered words reached Isabel’s ears causing her to whirls around.

‘She tried to shoot me, us and he jumped in front of us so she couldn’t hurt us’ she cried. Her gaze did not leave her children once.

‘He died because he loved us’ she sobbed ‘and now we have to go on without him because it’s what he wanted. He wanted both of you to know how much he loved you, it was one of the last things he said’

Maria was now crying just as hard as Liz who was holding onto her children like the lifeline they were.

‘No!’ Isabel screamed ‘No, No No’ she sobbed as she fell to the ground against Alex’s lean frame.
