The One Thing We Both... MATURE; Chapter 12 (10/16/04)
Chapter Twelve
May 27, 2002
Late afternoon
The Lovers’ Inn and Resort
The bright late afternoon sunshine streamed through the sheer white curtains into the small but cozy hotel room…lighting up the two young lovers wrapped in each others’ arms, asleep.
The girl moaned softly and turned over, stretching her slim arms over her head and arching her back like a cat as she opened her eyes. Smiling when she caught sight of her left ring finger, she once again admired her brand new engagement ring…sparkling on her slim finger. She fought to keep from squealing her joy and slowly turned her head to look at her fiancé.
He was still asleep. His handsome face looked almost boyish in his repose. She leaned into his arms again, and tilted her face up to touch her lips to his. The barest brush of her lips…and she heard him groan.
She deepened the kiss, enjoying the warmth and the love such an act evoked. When she broke the kiss and pulled back, she met his beautiful eyes with her own. They both smiled and whispered their good mornings shyly, despite the intimacy they shared now…with their son and their new engagement.
After exchanging several more lazy kisses, Liz peered over Max’s shoulder at the clock on the nightstand. Her eyes widened when she saw it was after five in the afternoon. They had nearly slept through the day!
“Max, it’s 5:25 in the afternoon,” Liz hissed in a whisper. Max’s eyes widened as well, and after kissing her again, got out of bed. “I’m gonna call Roswell, check on Zan,” Liz said quickly, reaching for the phone.
Max kissed her again and whispered that he would be in the shower. Liz nodded and then concentrated on her call.
After checking on her baby, Liz joined Max in the shower. They washed each other’s hair and bodies, and their gentle care turned hot when they started making out against the shower wall, locked in a hot embrace as their limbs entwined.
Liz tossed her head back in the shower spray as Max started to kiss down her neck and shoulders, moving down to take one of her breasts in his mouth. “Oh Max,” Liz moaned breathlessly…panting as he continued his ministrations, soon moving to the other one. Max grinned up at her as he kissed down her stomach…all the way down to where she ached most for him.
Max, now familiar with her taste, took his time with her…slowly tracing his tongue over every part of her intimate flesh. He heard her gasp when he gently pressed on of his fingers into her and moved in the delicious rhythm of lovemaking. His hot tongue found her hot spot and he lashed it repeatedly.
Liz’s cries turned constant and she gripped his shoulders as her body tightened to the brink extremely fast. She stiffened and called her love’s name as she exploded hard.
Max instantly stood up and immediately lifted her. Liz wrapped her legs quickly around his hips as he pressed her against the wall and drove into her to the hilt. They both cried out at the sensation…and then Max began the rhythm.
The shower loving was hard and fast, as their hunger for each other was at a fever pitch. Their breathing quickened and they gasped and moaned as they reached for the ultimate pleasure. “Oh, God, Max, yes,” Liz cried as she came harder than the first time.
Max reciprocated by groaning her name as his own climax was fast on the heels of hers.
Gasping and giggling at their obvious eagerness, they leaned their foreheads together and whispered love words between them as their hearts and bodies calmed. Liz eventually was able to stand on her own two feet, and the two quickly rinsed off and left the shower.

Half an hour later, the couple were dressed again. Unwilling to just get in the car and drive home right away, they decided to explore the resort and the outlying small town.
Driving down the open small highway, the couple enjoyed the beautiful twilight hour. Liz called for Max to pull the car into the parking lot beside a beautiful white church surrounded by flower gardens.
Max looked puzzled as he turned off the car engine. Liz slid over and kissed him softly. “There is a reason I wanted to stop here,” she whispered softly. “I love you and I want to marry you here,” she continued. “It’s so beautiful and…perfect,” she finished.
Max looked stunned for only a second before he found his voice. “I’d marry you anytime, anywhere…you know that, Liz,” he said. “Did you want to set a date?”
“Yes,” Liz said. And then came the biggest shock of all. “Let’s go home and get a marriage license. Then, next Sunday, the 2nd, we come back up here with everyone we love and get married…at sunset.”
Max was apparently shocked into silence for almost a full minute. When he finally spoke, his voice was rough with emotion. “I love you,” he whispered raggedly. “I can’t wait to be your husband,” he continued.
Liz smiled tremulously and then touched her lips to his for a sweet kiss. “I don’t want a big, elaborate wedding…I just want you and everyone we love there.”
After kissing again, the couple headed off to get a late meal and then start back home.

Early morning, 4:37 am
Michael’s apartment
The couple quietly entered Michael’s dark apartment, knowing they couldn’t wake him up. They were once again tired and knew they should get some sleep, for they would be rising early to go get their son from Isabel and Jesse’s.
They had discussed plans on the way home, including how to tell all the parents about Zan. The parents would obviously have to be told the whole truth, everything. There was really no other way to explain how Zan was their child…and had not been in their lives for nearly a year…and how he was Liz’s…and not Tess’.
Liz expressed relief as well…finally everything would be out in the open and they could just live their lives without any secrets from their loved ones.
Max agreed with that, but he also couldn’t help being worried…especially about Jeff Parker.
Max had just gotten back into the man’s good graces a mere five months ago…and now Mr. Parker would find out that him and Liz shared a child together.
The two soon curled up on Max’s sofa bed and fell asleep in each other’s arms.

Same day
9 am
Isabel and Jesse’s apartment
Max and Liz arrived at Isabel and Jesse’s a mere hour after waking up at Michael’s, eager to see their son.
In minutes, Isabel was ushering them inside. She hugged them both, expressing how worried she had been.
Liz’s eyes went straight to her son, who was currently drinking a bottle in Jesse’s arms. Zan’s eyes met hers and he waved his free hand. She went to him and gently took him from Jesse’s hold, thanking him as she did so.
When Zan was in her arms, Liz pressed kisses to his small face and held him close.
Apparently Jesse wasn’t blind and he grabbed for her left hand. He gave her a wry grin.
“Isabel, it looks like Max and Liz have been busy while they’ve been gone,” he announced.
Liz flushed when Jesse waved her hand at Isabel. She bounced over to see, and then she squealed. “Oh my God, Max…you guys are engaged?!” she gushed.
Liz nodded her head, as did Max. Isabel squealed again, and they all laughed at her enthusiasm. “On another note…we need to have a group meeting,” Max announced.
Isabel and Jesse didn’t need to be told what it was about. They knew that Max and Liz’s newfound son would have to be explained…and the only way to do that was to reveal the truth.
Both Isabel and Max used phones to call the rest of the group over for breakfast and a meeting.

The One Thing We Both... MATURE; Chapter 13, 11/11/04)
Chapter Thirteen
May 27, 2002
10:30 am
Isabel and Jesse’s apartment
Michael had banished Isabel from the kitchen that morning after hearing what a disaster Isabel was at cooking from Jesse.
Jesse’s remarks had earned him Isabel’s tossing the sofa cushions at his head, and that started the married couple in a tickle fight. They had laughed like schoolchildren, while everyone else remained amused at their behaviour.
Now, the entire group was sitting down to waffles and bacon, with the most fabulous syrup and orange juice. Liz noticed her best friend making eyes at Michael when he wasn’t looking and she smiled knowingly.
She would bet it wouldn’t be long before the two made up and got back together. Maria wore the look of the dumper who was suffering remorse and wanted her ex back. Liz grinned even more when Michael started with the looks too…also when his former girlfriend wasn’t looking.
Liz looked over at Kyle and frowned slightly when she saw the way he watched Isabel and her husband. Now that Isabel and Jesse had made up from all their arguments, they appeared closer than ever.
But the look on Kyle’s face spoke of blatant lust…and maybe even love as he stared at Isabel. Liz tossed a glance at Max and saw his attention was on Kyle as well.
Baby Zan soon drew everyone’s attention by loudly rapping a spoon on his high chair table.
Both Liz and Max turned their attention to their baby son, Liz gently taking the spoon from him and feeding him some of the applesauce…one of the bottles of baby food Isabel had generously purchased so she could take care of Zan while Max and Liz had been gone.
Max just smiled at his fiancée and ran his hand through what little hair his son had. He was so proud…and in less than a week Liz would be his wife…and they would start their future together.
Max looked over at his sister and saw how longingly she looked at his son. Jesse looked enraptured with baby Zan, too. His mouth quirked as he pictured Isabel and Jesse starting their own family. By the looks of those two it might not be long.
Seeing Isabel and Jesse so close, he thought again and realized he was not worried about Kyle’s obvious interest in his sister. Isabel’s marriage appeared to be back on track. Maybe he and Michael needed to find Kyle a girlfriend.
Breakfast was soon over and everyone pitched in to help clean. Afterwards, they all relegated to the living room to begin the meeting.
*****
“Maxwell, are you sure Tess is not gonna come after us again?” Michael demanded without preamble once they were all seated.
Max sighed. Truth was, he had doubts himself. I mean, Tess herself had expressed her desire to leave town and start her life fresh…but they all knew how little that bitch’s word meant. Nada.
“No, honestly…Michael, I’m not,” Max admitted. “But as we told everyone when we called from Nevada…we left her in the middle of nowhere without a penny to her name…and just with the clothes on her back. “I really think that it’ll be quite some time before we have to worry about her. And this time, if she does come back…”
“If she does, she’s definitely dead this time, Maxwell,” Michael stated firmly. The two locked gazes and finally Max nodded.
Michael sat back, satisfied. He would’ve loved to kill Tess while she was here…but he could wait. Anticipation could make the end result that much sweeter. He practically rubbed his hands together imagining it.
“Now, as to Zan…Liz and I have talked a lot about this while we were away…and we think that what we have to do is tell everyone involved the truth.”
As he had been expecting, different emotions were brought out with his announcement. Michael, of course, expressed the most.
Isabel was secretly thrilled. Her parents would finally know the truth… and her and Max and Michael would no longer have to hide their secret.
Maria was imagining the scenario of when her flighty and quirky mother would be told. Yeah, that was interesting.
Li cuddled her son close to her, as she listened to the group debate back and forth about the situation.
Finally, though, everyone saw the logic in such an action…because there was just no other way they could explain Zan’s presence.
On a happier, lighter note…Liz and Max announced their engagement to the whole group…and they were treated to hugs all around…and general excitement…especially when they all learned that Max and Liz planned to be married in Nevada the day after they graduated.
“We have so much to do,” Maria breathed, as she hugged her best friend again.
Liz smiled and hugged her back. “Well, the first thing Max and I have to do is get a marriage license.”
Everyone agreed with that. As the meeting drew to a close, the group agreed that Max and Isabel’s parent’s home would be the place where everyone was told the truth.
They settled on tomorrow night, for that evening was too short notice for all the parents to be expected to be there. They settled on 8pm sharp.
Everyone soon left the apartment, save for Isabel, Jesse, Max, Liz and the baby. Max asked Isabel to watch the baby for another couple hours while he and Liz went to go get the marriage license matter settled.

Same day
Early evening
Desert, by a small reservoir
Liz had never been happier as she and Max gazed at the stars above their heads as they lay together on a blanket. Their son was fast asleep in the brand new baby carrier they had purchased for him that afternoon.
They had also purchased new baby clothes, a crib, changing table, rocking chair…and all of the other things a baby could need.
Isabel and Maria had tagged along on the shopping trip, acting like little girls and squealing at all the cute stuff.
Max and Liz had simply shook their heads and laughed at their eagerness and excitement, secretly thrilled themselves that they were shopping for their own son’s clothes and necessities.
Now, hours later, the three of them were enjoying a quiet evening…before the meeting tomorrow night.
Liz was dressed in a simple white cotton sundress and her hair was loose. Max was just as casual in khakis and a slightly clingy black T-shirt. Zan’s outfit was also little khakis and a shirt.
Liz lay with her head on Max’s chest, her fingers entwined with his. She turned onto her side and looked up to meet Max’s gaze, which she found was locked with hers. She smiled and leaned up to meet his lips with her own.
The kiss was soft and sweet. Max’s hand crept around to the back of her neck and up into her hair. Their kiss gradually deepened and Liz moaned softly and began to run her hands down Max’s chest and back.
Max moved her over onto her back, following her down as he continued their kiss. His hands began to caress her body, up her sides and climbing to her breasts.
She moaned and threw her head back when he massaged her breasts with his hands. Even through the thin cotton, she could feel the wonderful thrilling sensation that was quickly making her warm all over.
Their movements fluid and graceful, they kissed and caressed as they gradually removed each other’s clothes. Max’s mouth was soft and gentle as he kissed down her neck and shoulders to the slope of her breasts.
Liz cried his name as his tongue traced every inch of her breasts and stomach…not missing an inch on her body…especially when his talented tongue traced her most intimate spots at her core. She gasped breathlessly as his tongue lashed slowly but methodically at her clit, while he moved a finger in and out of her tight passage.
“Oh God, Max,” Liz breathed out as her body tightened and she came, the sensation washing rapidly through her body.
Max crawled back up to her and took her mouth in a breathless kiss. Liz pushed him over onto his back…fully intent on treating him to the same caresses that he had given her.
Max lay back and whispered his love’s name over and over in like a chant as Liz kissed down his chest and stomach, trailing her tongue over the ridges in his abdomen and lower down to take his hot shaft into her mouth.
Max groaned loudly when her tongue traced his shaft, moving slowly form base to tip and then slipping him into her mouth and moving down, taking him in as far as she could. She developed a rhythm, going on instinct and the sound of his groans until Max hauled her up his body and kissed her voraciously. Liz straddled his hips as they kissed and positioned herself.
She didn’t wait and sank down on him to the hilt. They both moaned at the sensation and clasped hands as Liz slowly began to move herself on him. They moved in a steady but pleasurable rhythm until they climaxed together, calling each other’s names.
They lay together for several minutes before slowly dressing themselves and getting ready to leave.

The One Thing We Both Did Perfectly, MATURE; Part 14(1/9/05)
Chapter Fourteen
Same day
10pm
Evan’s residence
Max and Liz arrived back at Max’s house, trying to be as quiet as they could so as not to wake Max’s parents. They had decided to stay here tonight because in the morning they could tell Max’s parents of their plans for that particular evening.
Their tiptoeing and whispering proved to be futile, for Diane and Phillip Evans were sitting together on the couch. Diane turned and saw her son. “Oh Max, honey,” she whispered, getting up to go to him.
“Hi, Mom,” Max said softly, dutifully hugging her and kissing her cheek.
“Hi Liz, it’s nice to see you,” Diane said.
“You, too…Mrs. Evans,” Liz replied, still holding onto the baby carrier.
“Where have you guys been the last couple days?” Phillip Evans asked, approaching them as well.
“It’s a long story, Dad…and I promise we’re gonna tell you tomorrow…and I mean it,” Max said. “Everything.”
Diane nodded and leaned back into her husband’s arms. Phillip looked at Max. “What are you two doing here so late?” he questioned.
“Well, I was hoping Liz and I could stay here tonight with the baby,” Max asked.
“Of course, honey…is Tess alright?” Diane asked.
Liz saw her fiancé visibly bristle at the mention of the blonde. “I’m sure she’s fine, and anyway…I wanted time with Zan, he is my son.”
Diane nodded. “Oh absolutely,” she agreed. She peeked around Liz to see her grandson in the carrier. “Oh, he’s so precious,” she whispered, so as not to wake him.
“Mom, Dad,” Max began hesitantly. “Tomorrow night, Liz and I are going to tell you everything,” he said. “Michael and Isabel, Jesse and Maria…Amy DeLuca, Valenti and Kyle…and finally, Liz’s parents are going to be here as well. Everyone is going to know exactly what’s going on.”
Philip cleared his throat. “That’s a lot of people, Max,” he said, running a hand through his hair. “Do any of them have any idea what’s going on?”
“Actually, everyone except you two, Liz’s parents…and Amy DeLuca know what is going on,” Max admitted.
“Well, um….it’ll be nice to see everyone and find out what’s been happening,” Diane said softly, appealing to her husband as she looked up at him.
Philip finally nodded his agreement, and with that the four of them exchanged their goodnights and headed off to sleep.
Alone in Max’s room, Liz carefully put Zan down in the crib they had bought that day and then began to undress him for bed. “That went well,” she said softly.
Max nodded as he began to unbutton his shirt. “That was the easy part,” he said wryly, going to his dresser to get a pair of pajama pants for himself and a shirt for Liz. “You know I’m worried about tomorrow,” he said quietly, handing her the shirt.
“I know, honey,” Liz agreed. “But this is the only way…and I just feel that everything’s going to be fine…this will work out for the better.” She finished dressing Zan and tucked him in. She then undressed herself.
Soon after, the two finished dressing and got into bed, cuddling close together.
*****
Max and Liz slept late into the next morning, not Zan, nor the soft rays of morning sunlight streaming in through Max’s curtains waking them.
Liz finally stirred and stretched, looking over at the clock. Her eyes widened when she saw it was already 11am. She sat bolt upright, swinging her legs over the side of the bed and getting up. She went to the crib and smiled at the sight of her baby, still asleep and clutching the baby blankets in his fist.
She ran her finger lightly down his baby cheek. Gently, she leaned over the crib to scoop him carefully into her arms, blanket and all.
Deciding to let Max sleep a little longer, Liz quietly made her way out of the room and to the kitchen.
“Oh good morning, Liz,” Diane greeted.
“Hi,” Liz returned. “Sorry I slept so late,” she said.
Diane shook her head. “No honey, you obviously needed your rest.”
Liz smiled as she felt Zan finally stir in her arms and slowly wake himself up. When he was fully awake, he began to cry. Liz checked to see if he needed changing, and when that wasn’t it…she put him into his high chair and got up to begin to get him some baby food to eat.
Half an hour later, Liz was back in Max’s room, dressing Zan in little overalls and a blue t-shirt. Lifting him into her arms, she walked over to the bed and leaned over Max.
Zan reached out and lightly tapped Max’s face. Liz smirked to herself as Zan repeated his motion and Max groaned, rolling over.
He rolled back seconds later, slowly opening his eyes to see his fiancée and his baby son hovering over him. His face moved into a slow, sexy grin.
Liz smiled back, loving it as always when he smiled like that. Max got out of bed and stood to kiss her and run his hand over Zan’s hair. Then he turned and looked at the clock.
“Oh man,” he said, running a hand through his own hair. “Sorry I slept so late…I was having nightmares about tonight. I hope this is gonna work out.”
Liz nodded in understanding. “It will honey, and once it does…we’re all gonna feel a lot better about things. Then we can concentrate on our wedding.”
“Yeah,” Max whispered, leaned over to kiss her again. “Our wedding…our…speaking of which, what do you say we go get that marriage license?”
Liz just kissed him in response.
*****
An hour later, Max and Liz had left their son with Diane and were now inside the courthouse, filling out the necessary forms. Soon enough, that was done and they had procured the license.
“This is so exciting, Max,” Liz gushed as she walked back to the car, hand-in-hand with him. “We’re actually gonna do this…you and me and Zan…we’re gonna be family.”
“Yes, we are, Liz,” Max said, spinning her into his arms. “Nothing will harm us again. We’re gonna live happily ever after. Now, I think that we should go look for an apartment, don’t you?”
“Yes, absolutely Max,” Liz agreed and they separated to get into the car.
******
Two hours later
“Oh Max, this is so perfect!” Liz squealed, throwing her arms out as she gazed around the two-bedroom apartment they had finally found in a nice neighborhood.
The floors were hardwood, only the bedrooms were carpeted. The master bedroom had a balcony you could walk out to, with a magnificent view. Both bedrooms were bright and airy. The bathroom was great too, with a Jacuzzi tub and adjustable showerhead. The kitchen had a stove that looked brand new, and a decent-sized fridge. They had a lot of cupboard space. There was a little area outside the kitchen where they could place a table and chairs for a makeshift dining room. Finally, the living room was bright, with a huge bay window complete with window seat.
The sales agent couldn’t help but smile at the young exuberant couple. They reminded her of her and her husband when they had been that young and moving in together for the first time. She approached the young man. “What do you think, sir?” she asked, sensing a sale.
“We have been living with my parents for a year, actually,” Max began, giving the sales lady their cover story. “We have a son, who’s almost a year, is that gonna be a problem?”
“Oh no, sir,” the sales lady said. “This building has many children, many of them under the age of ten. I’d say this a wonderful little community for children. There is the elementary school within walking distance, and there is a day care about a block away.”
“Great,” Max said, looking over at Liz for confirmation. Seeing her nod, he turned back to the sales lady. “We’ll take it.”
******
Once Max and Liz had completed all the forms, Max drove Liz back to the Evans’, while he went over to the UFO Center to talk to Brody about possibly becoming a manager. Now that he and Liz had rent to pay, and their son to care for…they needed the extra money. Liz planned to talk to her parents about more money and a higher position at the Crashdown, after the upcoming conversation that night.
******
The rest of the day passed quickly, and before they knew it, it was a couple of minutes to eight, and the entire group, including Amy DeLuca, Valenti, the Parkers and the Evans, were assembled in the Evans’ family living room.
Liz had made coffee and delicious chocolate brownies. She poured the coffee and served the dessert, trying to stall as long as possible, for she could see her fiancé’s nervousness from across the room. Zan was asleep upstairs, and Liz had clipped the baby monitor to her jeans.
She could see her parents throwing her quizzical glances, obviously seeing the baby monitor and her nervous behavior.
A couple of minutes later, everyone had been served. Liz put the coffee pot down and went to stand with Max over by the fireplace. Max squeezed her hand and cleared his throat.
He gathered everyone’s attention and began.
“Thank you all for coming,” he said. “This is a very important meeting, and what I’m about to tell all of you is very important, and most of it cannot leave this room. This decision I’ve made, along with my sister and closest friends, affects all of us…and ultimately, your lives will be changed with this revelation. So, um, I guess the logical place to start is the beginning.”
“Nearly thirteen years ago, a kind and generous couple found me and my sister wandering out in the desert. They took us in, gave us a home…and have loved us as if we were their own. Isabel and I…along with Michael, and Tess…we have no past. That night you found us…we had just been born out in a cave…out of four pods. We looked like six year olds.”
“Tess didn’t hatch until later, and someone else raised her. Michael ran off, and was eventually adopted…and now, well, everyone knows he emancipated himself.”
“The reason why we were born out of pods is simple. Michael, Isabel, Tess and myself…we’re not human. We’re aliens…”

Same day

The One Thing We Both Did Perfectly (MATURE) Chapter 15
* Sorry for the delay between posts. This is my last semester of college and it's a little crazy. I hope to try to update at least once every two weeks from now on, if not once a week. Enjoy!
Chapter Fifteen
May 30, 2002
Same night
Evans living room
Immediately following
Sensing the flood of questions that was about to erupt, Max put up his hand. “Everyone, if I could just ask you all to hold your questions until I’m finished. It’ll make it a lot easier.”
Looking around the room he saw confusion and curiosity…but no revulsion or hatred. It calmed his nerves. He saw them nod one by one. Fortified, Max continued.
“Isabel and I, growing up here…we always knew we were different from other kids. We could do things that no one else could do. We had powers. We could change molecular structure, heal, dreamwalk. Once we started going to school, we found Michael again.”
“The three of us were linked by the secret we shared. We kept that secret successfully for ten years, not telling another living soul who and what we were…until one day, nearly three years ago…that all changed.”
Max continued the story, retelling every event briefly over the past three years up to that very day. Not a word was spoken to interrupt him, the adults appearing to hang on his every word.
A good forty-five minutes later, Max finished his story. The room was quiet for long moments, the adults apparently absorbing everything.
Then suddenly there was movement. Diane went to embrace Max and Philip hugged Isabel. Liz’s parents went to Liz and held their daughter, thankful that they hadn’t lost her. Amy looked at Michael and then pulled him into a hug.
Maria’s mouth quirked at the look on her former boyfriend’s face. He was stunned, but immensely pleased. Her heart ached as she once again felt the pangs from missing the love of her life. She could no longer deny that her and Michael belonged together. Just because they were together did not mean she couldn’t pursue her dreams. After the meeting, she would talk to him back at the apartment.
The Evans were now hugging Max and Isabel together. They broke apart. “I think I speak for all of us when we say that nothing is going to change. We love you all…and we don’t care where you come from.”
Isabel was silently crying happy tears as she felt Jesse come up behind her and enfold her in his arms. She turned to bury her face in her husband’s shoulder. She was so happy. Her life was good.
Max was relieved. He looked over at Liz and saw the same expression on her face. Liz led her parents out of the room and upstairs, after gesturing to Max. “Do you guys want to see the baby?” he asked his parents. They agreed and soon the four parents, and Max were watching Liz lift her small son out of his crib.
The Evans let the Parkers gush over their grandson first.
“He looks just like you,” Nancy Parker exclaimed, as she carefully rocked the baby. Zan gazed curiously at her, and reached a hand out to grab at Jeff’s fingers, which had been moving to stroke his forehead.
“He looks like Max, too,” Liz said quietly. “And that’s another thing,” she started, knowing she had to tell her parents of her impending marriage. “Max,” she called.
Max came to her and took her hand. She squeezed his hand and gave him a look that said everything. He swallowed hard but gave her a nod.
“You guys,” Liz began, looking up at Max for a second and then back at everyone else. “Max and I are engaged,” she announced.
To her surprise, the four parents congratulated them both, giving them hugs. “The other thing is, we want to do it this Sunday, the 2nd of June,” Liz finished.
“Are you sure, Liz,” Nancy asked. “It’s so quick, doesn’t give us much time to prepare and give you a nice wedding,” she continued.
Liz smiled reassuringly at her mother. “Max and I want to be a family with our son. We’ve already made a lot of the arrangements. We got a license earlier today, and we signed a lease on a two-bedroom apartment. We’re gonna be ready to do this,” she confirmed.
“Well, in that case, you have our complete support, honey,” Nancy said, hugging her daughter again.
“The other thing is,” Liz said, “It’s gonna be at this beautiful church in Nevada. And trsut me, it’s perfect.”
At that same moment, the rest of the group came upstairs. The large group separated into just guys and just girls.
“We have to go shopping for dresses tomorrow, Lizzie,” Maria squealed, practically bouncing in her excitement.
Liz nodded, agreeing. Diane, Isabel and Nancy dragged her into a discussion about flower arrangements.
“Where are we gonna have the reception?” Maria asked next.
After a lot of debate, they decided to just a have a small party at the Evans’ home, since they didn’t have enough time to be able to procure a big place, and a band; for the reception.
Meanwhile, the guys were discussing where to rent tuxes, and other small details.
An hour later, the evening broke up and everyone went their separate ways.

“Are you serious? Yeah, it’s just incredible, hard to believe. Yes, I understand. Okay. Yes, thank you sir, I will let you know. Goodbye.” Click.
Isabel came out of the bathroom in her bathrobe, ready to get dressed for her day out with the girls, buying dresses for Max and Liz’s ceremony. She heard her husband hang up the phone, still wearing his bedroom attire of boxers and a t-shirt.
“What was that about, honey,” she asked, approaching him.
Jesse looked incredulous. “That was my friend, Chris Hobson, he just played partner at Langtree, Watkins and Sullivan, one of the top law firms in Boston.”
“That’s nice,” Isabel replied, waiting for more.
“They need someone to take over their litigation department.”
“Oh,” Isabel said. “So Boston, huh? Well, what does it pay?”
“$350 to start,” Jesse said.
“Jesse, get real, we can’t live on $350 a week, especially in that city. I mean, the cost of living alone…would be a week’s salary.”
“Hey, $350 a year,” Jesse told her, smiling.
“So you mean it’s…”
“$350,000--,” Jesse started.
“A year?” Isabel gasped, her incredulity matching Jesse’s now.
Jesse laughed. “A year.”
“Oh my God!” Isabel embraced him excitedly. “Honey, that is so great. Oh my God!” In the back of her mind, she was worried that she might not be able to go—because they never knew when they could be in danger.
“So does that mean I’m taking it?” Jesse asked. “I mean, we’re going?”
Isabel hesitated. She wanted to go desperately. Shrugging to herself, she finally nodded. “Take the job, honey,” she said.
Jesse laughed excitedly and swept Isabel up in his arms, spinning her around. He carried her back to the bedroom and they made love, celebrating their new life to come.

Chapter Sixteen
May 31, 2002
Early Afternoon
Mechanic Shop
“Damn people and their cars,” Kyle muttered, as he watched another customer drive off, after complaining about the hefty cost of their repair bill. He turned slowly and walked back over to where a blue SUV was parked. Another person with some grievance about their car awaited.
“What can I, um, help you with?” Kyle asked into the air, looking around for the owner of the vehicle.
He is stunned speechless as a beautiful girl with gorgeous auburn red curls and piercing blue eyes comes around the car to him from the right side. “Hi,” she greeted.
“Hi,” Kyle said, his eyes roaming up and down her petite but curvy body, wearing just cutoff jean shorts and a red spaghetti strap tank top and sandals. His mouth went dry at the sight of her tanned legs. He swung his eyes back up to her face before she noticed he was staring.
Busted. She wore a wry grin, and if he wasn’t mistaken, she was checking him out too! That was a wonder in itself, since he was dirty with car grease, and wearing the standard garage outfit.
“So,” Kyle cleared his throat. “What seems to be the problem?” he asked, trying not to stare at her.
“Well, I…don’t really know,” the girl began. “The engine has been acting up, you know; stopping and starting, and sometimes smoke comes from the hood…”
Kyle squared his shoulders and went over to the hood of the car. He spent some time with it. Several minutes later, he approached the girl again and explained the situation. “There’s a leak in your radiator hose…and the battery’s fried. You’re gonna have to leave it overnight and pick it up in the morning.”
“Are you, um, gonna be here?” the girl asked with a flirtatious smile.
Damn. Kyle thought. Great smile, killer body, and she is really nice so far. He gave her a smile back. “Unfortunately, tomorrow I am graduating from West Roswell High,” he informed her.
The girl nodded. “Oh okay,” she said. She held her hand out to him. “I’m Serena,” she said, shaking his hand.
“Kyle,” Kyle returned, once again starstruck by her smile. “I’ll see you around, I hope,” he said.
Serena released his hand with a coy smile and backed away, smiling and waving.
Kyle watched her go until she was out of sight, grinning to himself. That’s when he noticed the slip of paper in his hand. He held it up close to his eyes. It was a phone number. Her phone number.
His mood changed, he turned after putting the note in his pocket and whistled as he went back to work.

Max watched Liz feed baby Zan with a smile on her face. He loved seeing her this happy. And in two days, she would be his wife.
“Liz,” Max said softly, as she finished feeding Zan and took him into her arms. She looked over at him. “I’ve been thinking. We didn’t name him.”
Liz grimaced. “I know. That was taken away from us, as was so many other precious memories.”
“We can change that, Liz,” Max told her. “He’s still young enough that it won’t make a difference if we change his name.”
Liz’s grimace turned into a smile. “You’re right, Max, and I know just what I want to name him. I remember it came to me when I discovered I was pregnant. I want to name him Alexander, after Alex. Alexander Maxwell Evans.”
Max found himself speechless and touched by the fact that she wanted to use his name and Alex’s. He leaned over to kiss her deeply. “It’s perfect, Liz. Thank you.”
“I need to talk to my dad about somehow getting Alex a birth certificate. I’m sure he can work it out,” Max said.
Liz nodded. “He needs to be legal in this state, and the country, too, Max,” she agreed.
“Let’s go out to the desert again tonight,” Max asked her. “After you get back from shopping, and I get back from shopping.”
Liz nodded in agreement and the two of them, plus baby Alex, went off to continue their day.

“So, Liz,” Isabel asked, as the group of girls and women stepped into Roswell’s bridal boutique, “What is the color scheme for this wedding?”
Liz smiled to herself as she remembered her and Max’s conversation about the wedding this morning. “It’s gonna be baby blue and white. The flowers are gonna be white roses.”
Isabel nodded her approval and Maria hugged her best friend. This was so exciting! The group included Isabel, Maria, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Parker, and Ms. DeLuca.
The group spent hours in the boutique. Finally, they had made bridesmaid selections, a mother-of-the-bride selection, and a mother-of-the-groom selection. The dresses were all baby blue, as per Liz’s request.
The bridesmaid dresses for Isabel, Maria, and Ms. DeLuca were floor-length peau de soie
strapless dresses, with a flower on the belts. The dresses revealed just a hint of cleavage.
The mother-of-the-bride dress was also floor length. It was a two-piece, with a long peau-de-soie skirt, and a halter top bodice with a scarf tie.
The mother-of-the-groom dress was a two-piece, floor-length dress, with a long peau-de-soie skirt, and the bodice had a removable flower, and the straps were slightly off-the-shoudlers.
Finally, they spent the most time looking for Liz’s dress. The dress was perfect when they found it. It was floor-length. The skirt would trail softly over the floor. It was sleeveless, and the straps would sit comfortably on her shoulders. The bodice was wrap-style and a flower sat at the curve of her waist. The skirt was flowing, and appeared as three layers. One flowed down from the bodice, and the next one flowed to her knees and the final one to the floor. The hems were all A-line, stemming from the wrap-style bodice. The dress had an underskirt, and you could see the edge peeking out from under the final layer. The dress was made of chiffon. They chose a lacy, see-through veil that came to Liz’s mid-back and was attached by a hairband to go with the dress.
Happy with their choices, the group paid for the gowns. Mrs. Parker insisted on paying for Liz’s dress, saying Mr. Parker and her wanted it that way.
Afterwards, they made a stop at the flower shop and made arrangements to have 5 dozen white roses delivered to the church in Nevada Sunday afternoon at three o’clock.
Their final stop was for shoes. They all chose fancy sandals with straps that wound up the calf slightly. They were comfortable and would do for a long day of wearing.
*******
Not far away, the group of men were at a tuxedo shop. Kyle’s shift had ended at three, so he had joined them. Of course, suits and tuxedos did not take nearly as long to pick out as dresses did. They all went with black suit jackets and pants, with baby blue crisp button-down shirts. The group included Michael, Kyle, Valenti, Mr. Parker and Mr. Evans.

Hours later
Early evening
Desert, by a small reservoir
“Mmm, Max,” Liz sighed, as her fiancé trailed delicious butterfly kisses down her throat. The evening air was humid, and the two of them were dressed light. Mr. and Mrs. Evans had volunteered to watch baby Alex so the two could have some alone time.
Max ran his hands lovingly up Liz’s sides and over to cup her breasts. Liz arched into his hands and moaned softly as he continued his kisses all the way down her throat, shoulders and collarbone. Max moved his hands down to the hem of her shirt and pulled it up and off, while Liz did the same to him.
They sighed as Max removed her strapless bra and their naked chests pressed together. Max pressed his face in the valley between her breasts and kissed her softly. He leaned over and took a nipple in his mouth, nibbling and sucking gently.
Liz was moaning softly as her body heated up. Max knew how to love her so well. Max switched breasts and continued his movements. Their hands went to each others’ pants and they unzipped and pulled them down, along with his boxers and her panties.
Naked, Liz grinned and pushed Max down onto his back. She crawled up beside him and started kissing his neck. She moved down to his shoulders and continued all the way down his chest, listening to Max groan his enjoyment.
Reaching the object of her utmost desire, she stuck her tongue out and licked the entire length of him from root to tip, then carefully took him in her mouth. She sucked and licked at him for several long minutes.
Max finally reached down for her and hauled her up his body to kiss her deeply. He turned her over onto her back and moved down her body. Liz, knowing where he was headed, spread her legs and waited for his intimate kiss.
Max didn’t disappoint her. He stuck his tongue out and licked her up and down. He ran his tongue over every inch of her intimate flesh, tasting her everywhere. Liz moaned and cried his name. Her body was on fire. She tossed her head back and forth. Finally, Max sought out the pinnacle of her pleasure and wreaked delicious havoc all over it. Liz screamed his name as she exploded in desire.
Trembling, she reached down for him and he moved back up her body, entering her in one smooth thrust. They moaned in unison, and began a delicious rhythm. Liz wrapped her slim legs around his waist and they moved rapidly toward completion. The friction and their fast pace soon brought them closer and closer to the edge. Max reached in between their bodies and quickly rubbed his fingers over her. They screamed each other’s names as they climaxed together.
They lay tangled together in a sweaty heap for long minutes. Max suddenly grinned down at her.
“Let’s go for a swim,” he suggested. Liz grinned back at him and they jumped up, racing toward the water.
They behaved like children in the water, splashing water at each other and laughing for quite awhile. Finally, they calmed and swam beside each other for a few minutes.
Finally, realizing that they should get back home, they went back to shore and redressed. They then headed for home.

The One Thing We Both... MATURE; (Chapter 17, 3/15/05)
Chapter Seventeen
June 1, 2002
Graduation Day
West Roswell High Auditorium
5pm
Cheers and whoops of joy filled the auditorium as all the students threw their caps in the air simultaneously. They had all done it. They had graduated.
Liz stood with her group of friends, laughing as they exchanged hugs. Their celebration was just beginning. There would be a party at the Crashdown that night for all the graduates.
Liz turned when she felt the presence of her small son and turned to find him in her mother’s arms, as her parents came up to hug her.
She returned the hugs and held her arms out for baby Alex, cradling him close. She felt Max come up behind her and embrace her tightly, pulling her back tight against his chest, encompassing his little family.
Liz was thrilled to have everyone she loved surrounding her, and for the time being, no danger was threatening them. They could just live.
And tomorrow, she would become Mrs. Max Evans, and would be legally his forever.

Crashdown
Nearing midnight
June 1, 2002
It was late and the only people remaining at the Crashdown were Max, Liz, baby Alex, Isabel, Maria, Michael and Kyle. Their parents had retired or left for the evening.
The group of six, plus the baby, sat in one booth close together, eating what was left of the huge graduation cake that had been served about an hour ago.
Liz leaned back against Max. The slight weight of her son rested in her arms. He was sleeping peacefully as the others talked quietly.
“Jesse received a job offer in Boston,” Isabel informed them. “It’s an excellent opportunity and it pays well. We’ll be moving in about two weeks.”
In a surprising move, Max told her to go for it. He wanted his friends and family to seize the opportunities they were getting to try to live like normal young adults.
Congratulations went around the table. Of course, they would stay in touch and visit whenever possible.
Liz had been accepted to Northwestern University in Illinois just a week and a half ago. It was amazing how quickly things changed. Because of her baby and her willingness to stay close to Roswell, her and Max would be attending the University of New Mexico at Las Cruces.
The town was not that far, and they could easily drive back and forth from school to their new apartment.
Liz and Max planned to set baby Alex up in the school’s daycare system so they could be close to him.
Kyle was staying in Roswell, too. For the time being, he was waiting to attend college. He wanted to decide on a direction for his life first. Also, he hoped to start something with that girl he had met.
Maria was quiet. She still had yet to talk to Michael about their relationship and she yearned for him in a way that still surprised her. She would have her dreams…but Michael was a huge part of her life, and she loved him fiercely. She would get him back. Now.
As the six friends parted, Maria pulled Michael aside and asked him if they could go talk at his apartment. He agreed and they left.

“What’s going on, Maria?” Michael asked wearily. He was tired from the long day and didn’t know what to say to his former girlfriend.
They had been civil lately, but their recent disagreements of the past weeks gnawed at him. He wondered if they could ever get back what they had lost last fall when Maria had dumped him.
She confused him, like always; Michael had to admit. One minute she was fiery and angry at him, and the next she would look at him with her green eyes full of love as deep as his own for her.
Maria took a deep breath. This wouldn’t be hard. She knew Michael still loved her. “Michael, I know things between us have been rocky. I know you’ve haven’t understood my actions over the last six months. In a way, I haven’t either. I’ve hurt you, you’ve hurt me…and I want it to stop.”
“My dreams haven’t ended, Michael. I’m gonna keep pursuing them. The thing is, I realized I don’t want to do it alone. I want to be with you, because I love you…and you are my biggest dream.”
Michael was stunned speechless for once. He had never in a million years expected her to come right out and say these things. He had thought he would have to grovel to win back her affections and love.
Out of words, he crossed quickly to her and swooped down to take her mouth in a fierce kiss. Fire exploded instantly between them. There was nothing gentle in this kiss. They were swept up in mounting passion.
Needing to be closer, they tore at each other’s clothes, kissing and caressing. They fell to the hard floor, disregarding the uncomfortable surface.
Naked, they sought out each other’s intimate places, kissing, licking, nibbling. Not an inch of their bodies was left out, as they reacquainted themselves with each other.
Maria fisted her hands in Michael’s hair as his tongue expertly swiped over every inch of her core. He thrust two fingers back and forth in her as she gasped, moaned and arched into his every motion. She screamed his name when he sucked her clit hard into his mouth.
Shaking with reaction, she hauled him up to her and they joined. Sighing in satisfaction, they moved into a fast-paced rhythm that soon had them screaming in release.
Collapsing in exhaustion, they murmured soft words of love to each other as they lay together in a sweaty heap.
Eventually, they moved to the bed. Reunited, they fell asleep in each other’s arms.

Liz hummed to herself as she placed a sleeping Alex in the crib her parents had hauled out for her to use.
Her and Max had decided to be traditional. Max would not see her until she walked down that aisle to become his wife later that day in Nevada.
She was staying with Alex at her parents, while Max stayed with the Evans.
Liz kept humming the same tune as she herself got ready for bed and climbed in. Armed with her thoughts about tomorrow and a smile, she fell into a peaceful sleep.
*Dreams-Liz
A fire crackled merrily in the hearth. A giggling toddler named Alex chased their new Labrador retriever Spot around the house.
Liz was settled comfortably on the couch with Max. They kept a watchful eye on Alex while watching the twinkling lights of their Christmas tree and the fire blazing.
It hardly ever snowed in New Mexico, but outside the bay window, fat snowflakes were starting to fall. A Christmas Eve miracle, for snow was indeed a rare sight.
This time next year, a new addition would be in their home. Liz smiled at Max as together they entwined their hands over the barely-there swell of her stomach. A new baby to make their lives even more full.

Still asleep, the smile remained on Liz’s face throughout the dream and the rest of the night.

******
Still asleep, the smile remained on Liz’s face throughout the dream and the rest of the night.

The One Thing We Both... MATURE; (Chapter 18, 4/2/05)
Chapter 18
Parker Residence
8 am
June 2, 2002
Liz snapped her eyes open at the strident beeping of her alarm clock. A slow smile spread over her face.
It was her wedding day.
Looking towards her balcony, she could see it was a beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky.
Hearing the sounds of baby Alex stirring, she went to him and lifted him up, cradling him close.
She rocked him and headed over to the slightly open window. She reached out and pulled up the window further with one hand.
The slight breeze entered the room and lifted the strands of her long hair.
Alex seemed to quiet at the feel of the warm air on his skin. He began to babble happily.
Liz smiled at her son. “It’s Mommy’s wedding day, Alex,” she told him. Alex looked at her and continued babbling words that made little sense.
Carefully, Liz knelt down and placed him on the floor, sensing his want to move. Sure enough, he slowly began to crawl over the hardwood floor.
She kept a watchful eye on her son as he crawled around. She dressed quickly in her beige Capri pants and a cranberry cotton spaghetti strap tank top with sandals.
Scooping Alex back into her arms, she sat him on the dresser while she retrieved some clothes for him. Just jeans and a little t-shirt for now. Later, he would be wearing a tiny suit they had managed to find for the wedding.
She hurried to finish up. She only had twenty minutes before she had to meet all the women in her wedding party for breakfast.
****
Half an hour later, Liz was laughing with friends, her mother and her mother-to-be. They had opted to eat at the Crashdown because they had 9:30 appointments to get their hair and makeup done. The dresses were all hung safely beside the large booth they had occupied.
Diane Evans reached across the table and squeezed her hands.
“Your mom and dad, as well as Mr. Evans and I…have a surprise for you and Max,” she announced.
Liz smiled. “But shouldn’t Max hear about this, too?” she asked.
“Oh honey, it’ll sound better coming from you,” Diane assured her.
Liz nodded and waited for Mrs. Evans to go on.
“The four of us parents want to give you and Max an all-expenses paid trip to Honolulu in Hawaii for your honeymoon…and it’s for a week!”
Liz’s mouth hung open in shock. She was thrilled as Mrs. Evans handed her a package including airline tickets and their accommodation details. “I…thank you, this is too much!” Liz said, slowly closing her gaping mouth.
“Take it, honey,” Nancy urged, reaching to hug her bewildered daughter. “And don’t worry about Alex. He’ll get more grandparent love and care than he can handle.”
Liz just nodded, thinking about Max’s face when she told him the news.
The talk moved to the wedding, which was only six hours away.
“Nervous, Lizzie?” Maria asked her.
Liz shook her head. “I’m not,” she replied. “I’m marrying Max…he’s my soulmate.”
There was a chorus of “aw’s” around the table and Liz blushed.
They all finished breakfast and then headed off to the salon.
****
A long two and a half hour later, the six women emerged from the salon looking utterly glamorous.
The bridesmaids: Maria, Isabel and Amy De Luca; wore their hair up in classic French twists. They sported tasteful but light makeup including baby blue shadow for eyes, light pink lip gloss and mascara. Light pink blush had been brushed over cheekbones.
Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Evans wore their hair down, the only difference being is that they both sported loose, flowing curls that framed their faces and cascading down their shoulders.
Their makeup was the same as the bridesmaids.
Now, Liz…she was ultimate beauty. And well she should be. It was her day.
Her long rich brown hair was curled into loose ringlets and piled stylishly in a twist on top of her head, attached cleverly by several bobby pins and a silver hairband. Her veil could later be attached to the hairband.
Loose curls framed her flushed cheeks which were dusted with rose-colored blush. She wore mascara and sparkly gold eyeshadow, along with light lip gloss.
Now came the drive to Nevada. Liz placed a call to her father, who was keeping baby Alex with the men. And they were off.

The Church
1:30 pm
June 2, 2002
Arriving before the guys had its advantages, Liz thought as she gazed around the inside of the church.
Rows of pews lined up on both sides toward the altar. The pathway was covered by a long, red carpet. The pews and they altar itself were done in a polished mahogany.
The church was bright and airy, complete with some stained glass windows high on the walls depicting various religious scenes.
The girls scurried about, making small bouquets of white roses and tying them with baby blue ribbons. Isabel went about affixing them to the sides of the pews with little bursts of alien power.
Since they didn’t have a flower girl, Maria sprinkled white rose petals all the way down the red carpet.
Finally, bouquets were put together for the girls, and a big one for Liz to carry down the aisle. They also laid flowers aside for the guys to wear in the lapels of their suit jackets.
Finally, they all sat down to rest for a few moments, having already put their dresses in the bride’s room.
Maria produced a small gift-wrapped bag from her purse and handed it to Liz. “We need the traditions, Lizzie,” she said. “You need something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.”
Liz nodded and took the bag her best friend handed her with a smile. She opened to it to reveal a lacy garter in baby blue. She laughed. Maria had already given her a beautiful lace baby doll with a matching thong in baby blue for her wedding night the other day.
She hugged Maria. “Thank you.” Isabel was next and gave her a brand new silver charm bracelet with tiny charms of the planets and some stars. Isabel told her it was from Jesse and herself. Liz hugged Isabel as well.
Her mom came next and placed the first piece of jewelry Liz had ever owned in her hands. It was a delicate silver locket. It was heart-shaped and opened to reveal a picture of Liz as an infant, and her parents together and smiling on the other side. Liz gave her mother a hug as well. It had been so long since she had worn that locket.
Finally, Diane slipped a pair of sapphire earring studs in her hand. “These are mine,” she told her. “They can be your something borrowed.”
Liz felt close to tears at her friends’ thoughtfulness. She thanked them all.
Suddenly, Kyle appeared in the doorway of the assembly hall. “Um, I don’t mean to interrupt…but we’re here now and I think the bride needs to hide from Max,” Kyle said.
Liz nodded, thanking Kyle as she and the other women hurried past him to the side door that led to the bride’s room. It was time to get ready.
*****
A half hour later, the guys had already finished getting ready and walked out to the assembly hall.
Max let out a low whistle as he viewed the beautiful decorations. It was impressive and he knew Liz would appreciate the white roses, her favorite.
The guys saw the flowers laid aside for them and put them in their lapels. Max even put one on baby Alex’s suit.
Just then, Isabel came scurrying in and picked up the bouquets for the women, including Liz’s.
Jesse let out a wolf whistle at the sight of his wife dressed to the nines in her gorgeous baby blue bridesmaid dress that complimented her curves.
Isabel blushed but laughed, and accepted the kiss her husband leaned over to give her. “It’s just a dress, Jesse,” she admonished, secretly pleased.
“You know you’re beautiful, Isabel,” Jesse told her.
Isabel smiled at him and everyone else and left the room again.
Michael suddenly grinned. “If Iz looks like that, Maria’s going to look gorgeous,” he said, getting a hot, desire-filled look in his dark eyes.
Max eyed him. “Something you want to tell us, Michael?” he asked his friend.
Michael looked at all of them. “Maria, uh, she came over last night…we talked. She wants to be together again,” he told them.
The others all nodded, secretly knowing what Michael was not telling them. The naughty details.
Kyle rubbed his hands together. “Well, you all are tied down to women, I hope I can get one now,” he said. “I met this beautiful redhead the other day at the garage. She flirted with me and left her number, I’m going to call her tomorrow.”
The others nodded and congratulated him.
Suddenly, an unknown voice interrupted them. “Ah, the groomsmen. How are you, gentlemen?”
The guys turned around to greet the minister who had come into the room. The minister looked around. “Which one of you is Max Evans?”
Max stepped forward, his hand outstretched while he held onto Alex with the other arm. He shook the man’s hand. “Nice to meet you.”
“And you as well, I’m Minister David Atkins. Beautiful child,” he added, looking at baby Alex. “I’m assuming you have the marriage license?”
Max nodded and handed Alex to Jesse as he reached into his suit jacket to produce the document.
Minister Atkins took and read it quickly. “Alright, Mr. Evans, this looks fine,” he said. “We have wedding rings, I assume?”
Michael, who had been holding onto the rings as Max’s best man, stepped forward with the wedding rings, which were simple gold bands. On the back of each was the inscription, ‘Always and Forever, Max & Liz’.
Minister Atkins nodded. “Okay, well, we’re all set. “I’m going to run through where everyone should stand. I’ll have to speak to the bride’s party in a short time about their places after the walk down the aisle, but for now I’ll show you.”
The guys followed Minister Atkins’ instructions, aware that the wedding was now a mere half hour away.

The Bride’s Room
2:37 pm
23 minutes until the wedding
Everyone else was dressed besides Liz at this point. As predicted, the women all looked gorgeous. Now came Liz.
She stood in just a simple white slip over her white lace bra and panties, the garter Maria had given her already in place on her right thigh.
She unzipped the dress carefully, and allowed Maria to hold it while she stepped into and pulled it up. Isabel stepped in and zipped up the back zipper.
Liz’s mom came forward with her short lacy, see-through veil and affixed it to her silver hairband, letting the veil fall down the back of Liz’s head to her shoulders.
Liz carefully put on her borrowed earrings and her new charm bracelet, letting her mom clasp her locket at the back of her neck.
They made a few more finishing touches and then they were ready. It was now ten minutes and counting.
Just then, there was a soft tap on the door. Maria went to it and opened it cautiously, sticking her head. Relieved to see just the minister. She opened it fully.
Minister Atkins introduced himself and told them he needed all the bridal party minus Liz to come with him to see where their places would be. He assured them they would be back right before the wedding march was to start.
The women all either hugged Liz or pressed her hands and left with the minister. Before he left with the women, Minister Atkins told Liz her father would be waiting just outside the doors to the entry hall.
Sure enough, the girls were back with only a minute to spare. They went out of the bride’s room and quickly made their way to the door to the hall. Isabel would walk first, then Maria and Mrs. De Luca. Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Parker would walk together, and then finally Liz would be walked down on her father’s arms.
Suddenly, the music began to play. Liz felt her father take her arm and she smiled at him. It was time for the wedding.

Entrance to the church hall
Same day
Liz watched as each one of her bridesmaids began the trek down the long, rose-covered pathway that led to the altar, where her and Max would take their vows.
Finally, it was her turn. As the music swelled, her eyes never left Max’s as she practically floated down the aisle on her father’s arm.
At the altar, Jeff Parker placed his daughter’s hand in Max’s outstretched one and kissed her cheek. “Be happy,” he whispered.
Liz nodded at him, but never took her eyes off Max. Together, they turned toward Minister Atkins.
The minister smiled at them both and then began to address both them and the congregation.
“Dearly beloved. We are gathered here today to witness the joy of these two young people, coming together in holy matrimony.”
“It is one of life's richest surprises when the accidental meeting of two life paths lead them to proceed together along the common path as husband and wife. It is one of life's finest experiences when a casual relationship grows into a permanent bond of love. This meeting and this growth bring us together today.”
“Max and Liz, will you take vows here before all of us which symbolize the manifested vows you have already made and will continue to make to each other throughout your lives?”
“We will,” Max and Liz said together.
Minister Adkins gave Liz a nod to begin her vows.
Meeting Max’s eyes with her own, Liz began. “I, Liz Parker, take you, Max Evans, as my friend and love, beside me and apart from me, in laughter and in tears, in conflict and tranquillity, asking that you be no other than yourself, loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not yet know, in all the ways that life may find us.” Liz finished and sent Max a small smile.
Minister Adkins then looked to Max, and Max began.
“I, Max Evans, take you, Liz Parker, as my friend and love, beside me and apart from me, in laughter and in tears, in conflict and tranquillity, asking that you be no other than yourself, loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not yet know, in all the ways that life may find us.” Max squeezed Liz’s hands between his own softly.
Minister Adkins continued. “May I have the rings, please?”
Michael stepped forward with the rings, and gave one each to Max and Liz.
Minister Adkins continued. “The circle is the symbol of the sun, earth, and universe. It is the symbol of peace. Let this ring be the symbol of unity and peace in which your two lives are joined in one unbroken circle. Wherever you go, return unto one another and to your togetherness.”
Max took hold of Liz’s left hand and slid the ring onto her third finger. “I give you this ring to wear upon your hand as a symbol of our unity in steadfast love,” Max stated.
Next, Liz took Max’s left hand and slid the ring onto his third finger. “I give you this ring to wear upon your hand as a symbol of our unity in steadfast love,” Liz returned the statement, smiling through the tears of happiness that were beginning to form in her eyes.
“You are mature people who have established individual patterns of living. Yet you have found not only a need for companionship, but the satisfaction of that need in each other's company. It is this love, based upon a responsible understanding, that will aid you in creating out of your two lives, a marriage and a happiness you will share together. Stand fast in hope and confidence, believing in yourself and believing in each other,” Minister Adkins intoned.
”In as much as you two have come before your friends and family and have declared your love and devotion to each other, I now greet you with them as husband and wife. Max, you may kiss the bride,” he finished.
Max gently leaned toward Liz, framing her face in his hands as he kissed her warmly. They deepened the kiss only slightly before pulling back.
The two, smiling, turned and faced their friends and family as they all clapped and cheered. They ran lightly together down the aisle, as their friends showered them with rice.
Outside, on the lawn, they turned to exchange hugs with every member in their wedding party.
Max and Liz both shook the Minister’s hand enthusiastically, thanking him for being a part of their day.
Nancy Parker hugged Liz last, handing over baby Alex to her daughter. Liz grinned and bounced her son lightly in her arms, laughing at his little laugh. She kissed his cheek. “Mommy and Daddy are married, Alex,” she told him.
Max came over from where he had been hugging his mother and stroked a hand over his son’s hair. “Hey buddy,” he said softly. He smiled at Liz, leaning in to give her another kiss.
Diane Evans and Jeff Parker both whipped out cameras from behind their backs to take pictures.
Max and Liz posed just the two of them, then with their son. They posed with the bridesmaids, and then the groomsmen.
They posed with the parents, minus Amy De Luca and Jim Valenti, who must have arrived right before the ceremony. They posed with their friends, and then finally; they posed with the entire wedding party.
Minutes later, they had all piled into their cars and were on their way back to Roswell for the reception.

Evan’s home
6:30 pm
They arrived just in time to greet the caterers that had pulled into the Evans driveway. Everyone went inside except Mr. and Mrs. Evans, who directed the caterers into the house and into the kitchen and adjoining dining room.
Mr. Evans came into the living room and went to the bar to start making drinks for everyone. Everyone was now seated on couches or chairs around the living room.
Max and Liz were on the central couch with their son between them. Once they all had their drinks, Michael stood.
“I would like to propose a toast…and as best man, I guess I should make a speech.” He cleared his throat.
“Nearly three years ago, a girl named Liz Parker came into Max’s, Isabel’s and my life. We weren’t very trusting, and we were cautious. But, slowly she proved to break our walls down…bringing her friends into the group gradually. We all became close. But Max and Liz, they started slowly. They have had their hardships, relating to destiny and other things…but they have prevailed. When I look at them I see a love that won’t die, and their son is a perfect, albeit unexpected testament to that love. I wish them happiness and good health. To Max and Liz,” he finished, raising his glass.
The others echoed that sentiment, raising their glasses.
Maria stood up after Michael and began her speech. She smiled over at Liz. “My best friend is married,” she said, almost in awe. “I’ve known Liz since kindergarten, and we have always been the best of friends. Long before Max saved her life… I knew he cared for her. And when they got together, it proved me right. They are one of the most loyal couples I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing live and love together. They are going to have a beautiful life together, and a beautiful family. To Max and Liz,” she finished, also raising her glass.
After they all sipped to conclude the toast, one of the caterers announced that they were all ready to serve.
Everyone made their way into the kitchen to get some food.
