Chapter 11

“Liz? You okay?”

Liz snapped out of her thoughts and looked across the table a Kyle’s bright blue eyes. “Yeah, I’m fine.” He had taken her to quite an expensive Italian restaurant. She had claimed that it was all too much when he told her where they were going, but he had insisted.

“You zoned out for a second there,” he said with a chuckle.

She smiled as her cheeks burned in embarrassment. “Yeah, I just have a lot on my mind.”

“Want to talk about it?”

She waved it off. “I’m just stressed from school and work,” she answered. How was she going to tell him that she was thinking about his brother while she was out with him? She was still trying to figure out what Max meant when he told her that he wouldn’t be able to find someone to love him unconditionally. She wondered what made him say that.

“Liz,” Kyle hummed as he waved a hand in front of her face. “You sure you okay? I’m not boring you, am I?”

“Oh… no. I’m sorry, like I said, I’m just stressed. I’ll be a better date from now on,” she laughed. Truth was, she was having a great time with Kyle. He was funny, charming, sweet and he really seemed interested in her. She regretted not getting to know him while he was living in New York.

“So how’s everything going in Florida?” she asked him.

He eyes glowed. She could tell he really had a passion for what he did and she admired that. “It’s great being back home. We’re actually working on a new game. We’re just confirming with the animators which is why I’m here.”

“That’s great Kyle! I’m so happy for you,” she exclaimed with a bright smile.

“Thanks.” He smiled and glanced at his watch. “We should get going. The play is going to start in a little while.” He called for a check and soon they were on their way out of the restaurant.

“What are we going to see?” she queried in the cab on the way to the theater.

“Rent.” Liz beamed at him. She had been meaning to go and see that play ever since she’d been in New York.

“Having fun?” he asked her as she watched the play. She nodded, still giddy that she was finally seeing this play. Kyle reached over the armrest and grabbed her hand, twining his fingers with hers. Surprise turned into shock when her brought her hand to his lips and gently kissed her knuckles. Not knowing what to do or how she felt, she kept her eyes forward and focused on the play.

As the theater emptied out at the end of the play, Kyle placed his hand on the small of her back. Liz let herself relax with his touch and found herself leaning into him.

“I had a great time Kyle,” she told him once they made it back to the apartment. They stood awkwardly in front of the door, not knowing how to end the night.

“I’m glad. I had a great time too.” And before she could reply, he was leaning over and pressing his lips against hers. It took Liz by surprise and she didn’t respond right away. It wasn’t until he started to pull away that she reacted and she draped her arms around his neck to pull him closer. His lips caressed hers in a gentle dance before she pulled away. The kiss was nice, but it didn’t feel right.

“Goodnight Kyle,” she whispered.

He leaned in for one more peck. “Goodnight Liz.” He flashed a vivid smile before turning and heading towards the elevator. Liz waited until he turned the corner before she unlocked the door and went inside.

Liz stopped her journey to her room when she spotted Max sleeping on the couch. A few bottles of beer littered the coffee table and she wondered why he was out there and not with his date he’d brought home when she left. Liz kicked off her heels before she put her purse and keys on the table beside the door and kneeled at Max’s side.

She stared at his peaceful features, as she brushed back his hair. Smiling at how cute he looked, she grabbed the blanket that had fallen on the floor, and covered him with it. He stirred just as she leaned in to kiss his cheek. When she pulled away, his golden eyes were staring back at her.

“Hey Doll.”

She could smell alcohol on his breath and she saw the glazed look in his eyes. “You’re drunk,” she declared. He simply smiled at her. “What are you doing out here?”

“It’s a looong way from here to my room,” he said. “And right now, I can’t figure out if you’re sitting on the ceiling or the floor.”

Liz giggled as she brushed back his hair. “What happened to your date?”

“She got pissed cause I wouldn’t sleep with her so she left… that slut!”

She laughed as she shook her head. “You actually turned someone down?”

“It’s quite possible,” he slurred. “Can I crash with you tonight?”

Liz helped him up and they both hobbled down the hall to her room. Max collapsed onto her bed as Liz went to her dresser. She pulled out one of Max’s shirts that she “borrowed” from his closet. She changed and joined him in bed.

He pulled her into his arms and she laid her head on his chest. “Was Kyle a jackass to you?”

“No, he was a perfect gentlemen.”

“Figures,” he grumbled. “He’s not your type.”

Liz propped herself on his elbow. “You’ve been saying that a lot lately. Since you know so much, why don’t you tell me what my type is then.”

“Well, I’m thinking that your type is tall, dark hair, handsome. He should go to NYU and live in the same apartment as you.” He rolled over and pinned her beneath him. “Someone like me, for instance.”

She breathed out a shaky breath as his eyes trailed down her body and back up again. “S-Someone like… you?”

His smirk sent shivers down her spine and she hoped she made it through the night without attacking him.

“Mmhm. Someone like me.”

His eyes darkened from a light hazel to a chocolate brown as mouth hovered over hers. If he would only move down a few more centimeters; she wanted to taste him so bad. Just a breath away from his lips, she shivered in desire as she watched his tongue dart out to wet his lips before disappearing back into his mouth again.

She thought that maybe he was waitng for her to make the final move and she leaned up to close the small gap between them. She completely missed his lips when he rolled away suddenly. She missed his warmth immediately.

“But that’s just a thought.”

“Yeah. Just a thought.” Liz giggled weakly as she watched him pull the sheets up to his chin, before he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close.

He pressed his lips against her cheek before resting his forehead against hers. “Night Liz.”

Liz sighed in frustration as she cuddled into his warm embrace. “Night Max.”
***********

Liz finally decided to get out of bed around two thirty. Max lay asleep next to her and Liz quietly slid out of the circle of his arms and shuffled into the kitchen, passing her mirror on the way. She didn’t even have to look at it to know she looked a mess and she didn’t care. This was her weekend to be lazy.

After grabbing a bowl of cereal, Liz settled on the couch and basked in the moment’s peace she had to herself before Max woke up. Halfway through her cereal her peace was interrupted by a knock on the door.

“Kyle,” Liz screeched in horror when she opened the door. She quickly ran her hand through her disheveled hair, knowing she looked bad.

“Is this a bad time,” he asked, an amused smile slowly forming on his lips.

“Um…. Well I slept in late today and I’m just getting up,” she explained, her cheeks burning wildly as she stepped aside to let him in.

“Oh… Well I just dropped by to tell you I had a great time last night,” he said.

Liz crossed her arms in front of her chest, feeling self-conscious about her attire. She hoped that Kyle didn’t recognize that she was wearing Max’s clothes. “I had a good time too Kyle,” she said sincerely.

He stepped closer and reached out to brush his hand against her arm. “Good. Good, because I was thinking that we could go out again tonight.”

“Tonight? I thought you were leaving to go back to Florida tonight.”

“I was, but if I could get a second date with the most beautiful girl in New York, than I was going to wait and leave in the morning,” he expressed, rendering her speechless and blushing. “So, what do you say,” he urged as he stepped even closer, laying a hand on her waist.

“Um.” Her answer which would have been nothing more but a string of words haphazardly put together was cut off when her bedroom door opened and a barely awake Max stepped out, both eyes closed and his hand under his shirt, scratching his chest.

He stopped in the middle of the hallway and turned towards them, cracking open one eye. “Hey Kyle,” he mumbled groggily.

“Hey Max,” Kyle returned with a nod in greeting. Max’s gaze flickered to Liz before continuing to the bathroom. Liz waited until she heard the sound of the shower spray before she continued.

“Look, Kyle, I had a great time last night, but I don’t think that you and I… I don’t think…”

“It’s okay Liz,” he said with a soft smile. “I see it now.”

“No. Kyle wait,” she called when he turned to walk away. “It’s not what you’re thinking…”

“Liz, you’re right. You and I shouldn’t continue seeing each other. Especially since you and my little brother have a thing going on,” he said and to her surprise, he presented a slight smirk.

“T-There’s nothing going on between Max and me,” she denied though she could feel her cheeks heating up at the thought of what happened last night. “We’re just friends.”

“Liz, as much as I wish I were the one that you had your eye on, I’m not. And from what I can tell, Max has his eye on you too.”

“Max has his eye on lots of girls,” she grunted.

“Yeah, but you’re special and he knows it.”

Liz stopped her coming protest before it even left her lips and she perked up at Kyle’s statement. “You think so?”

He rolled his eyes and let out an exasperated sigh. “Yeah, it’s pretty obvious. I mean, all those girls he’s with, he doesn’t care about them. He just wants the sex, but you Liz… why do you think he’s never tried anything with you? I think he’s scared of you and what you might make him feel.” Liz frowned as what Kyle just said registered in her mind.

“Kyle, I never meant to lead you on. I really do like you but…”

“I got it Liz,” he said, affectively cutting off her apology. “Just make sure you don’t take any of his bullshit,” he informed her before he leaned down and kissed her cheek. “I’ll see you around Liz.”

“Bye Kyle,” she said as she watched him walk out the door. Blowing out a sigh, Liz returned to her seat on the couch.

Liz didn’t know what to make of what Kyle had just told her. She knew that Max liked her, especially after what almost transpired last night. But how did she know if he genuinely liked her or just wanted to sleep with her? And what did Kyle mean when he said that Max was afraid of what she might make him feel? Liz wasn’t even sure on her feelings for him. Yeah, she liked him. She really liked him. But did she trust him enough to actually be with him? Max said himself that he doesn’t commit to one woman, how could she trust him not to hurt her?

She heard the shower being shut off and Max came into the room shortly after, clad in only a pair of clean boxers and t-shirt. Liz quickly averted her eyes from his scrumptious looking chest, which was very visible though his damp shirt. He slumped in the chair across from her and she waited for him to say something to her, but when nothing came, she turned to find him staring at her.

“What?”

“So….”

“So… what?”

“So… what’s up,” he said with a shrug of his shoulders.

“Nothing,” she uttered nonchalantly.

“Okay so obviously, you’re not just going to throw the information that I want out in the open, so I’m just going to ask you. Do I have to shoot my brother or are you still single?”

“The latter,” she said, glancing at him out the corner of her eye. Liz didn’t like the look he had on his face, but she decided not to question him.
***********

“Liz, you are the pimpette of the year!” Maria exclaimed when Liz finished telling her about the night she had with Max. Maria stood and headed into the kitchen.

Liz followed her. “Maria this is not good. I mean, I told Kyle that we wouldn’t work out and he seemed to understand that. But do you know what he told me?”

“What?”

“He told me that Max likes me.” Maria stared at her like it was no big deal and Liz frowned in confusion. “Well….”

“So what? I think it’s pretty obvious the man has a thing for you.” At Liz’s baffled looked Maria took her by her shoulders. “I’ll even go as far as to say that he adores you. The fact that he told you that he thinks of himself as your type of guy should be the case solving clue Lizzie.”

“But he was drunk,” she countered.

Maria dropped her hands from her shoulder and turned to bury her face in the refrigerator. “Whatever you say. I’m just telling you how I see it.”

“Weren’t you the one telling me that this was going to happen and when it did I’d get hurt again?” Liz accused.

“Liz, that was before I saw how he treats you. He treats you like a freaking queen. He beat up a guy because he stood you up. When he’s with you, his attention is all on you. Besides I have the right to change my mind,” she said.

“Okay. So, let’s just say that Max does like me, then why does he continue to sleep with so many women?”

“I don’t know. Maybe whatever he’s feeling for you he’s never felt before and it scares him. It happens all the time."

"Kyle said the same thing," she mumbled.

"Now I’m not saying go and start a relationship with him, but Max has a crush on you and I think it’s sincere,” she declared. “I want to see you happy Liz and if Max would just open his eyes and see what he has right in front of him, I think he could be the one to do it. I think you can change him into a one woman man.”

It sounded too good to be true to Liz. But she couldn’t stop the smile forming on her lips.

That would be nice to be the one to make Max believe there is someone just for him to love him unconditionally. It would be nice to be the one to turn him into a one woman man. She could be the one to steal Max’s heart and he could steal hers.

That would be nice.

Chapter 12

Liz woke with a start to the sound of the phone ringing on the night stand. She poked her head out from underneath the sheets. The second she felt the cool air, she quickly ducked back underneath them.

“Liz, grab the phone,” Max moaned beside her.

“You get it. It’s on your side.”

“It’s your room,” he countered.

“You’re the one who climbed in my bed in the middle of the night.”

“I’m too cold,” he whined as he rolled on his stomach and covered his head with the pillow.

“So am I,” she argued. She heard him sigh from underneath the pillow before he reached out and grabbed the shrilling cordless phone. He handed it to her before burying his head underneath the pillow once more.

“Hello?”

“Hi Lizzie.”

“Mom?”

“Did I wake you sweetie.”

“Yeah, but its okay,” she said, grinning from ear to ear. Liz adored her parents. They’ve been together for over twenty five years and she wanted what they had. “Mom why are you calling so early in the morning?” she queried as she burrowed further under the sheets.

“Lizzie it’s ten in the morning,” she laughed. Liz glanced at the window and saw the few rays of sunshine shining through the closed blinds.

“Oh… I don’t have class today,” she explained. Max snored beside her and she jabbed him in his side with her elbow, hoping that her mother hadn’t heard. She would get up and go in the living room, but she was too cold to move.

“Who’s that Lizzie?”

Liz winced. “Um… Max.” After coming home from work, he had crawled into her bed and asked her if it was okay if he slept with her. She simply rolled over to make room for him.

“Max? Is this the same Max that you moved in with,” she questioned with a hint of amusement in her tone.

“Mom,” she whined. “It’s not like that. We’re just friends.”

“I’m not saying anything. I just called about Christmas.”

“You and Dad are still coming up right?”

“Well that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Your Dad’s back went out again and I don’t want him around all that ice up there.”

“How’d he throw it out this time?”

“He was trying to play basketball with those young boys down the street. You know your father…”

Liz giggled at her father’s antics. He always said that he refused to be tied down by old age. “So it’s Christmas in Roswell again.”

“Yeah. I’m sorry Lizzie, I know how much you wanted us to come out this time.”

“It’s okay Mom. I’ll see you in a few days okay?”

“Okay. I’ll call Alex and let him know. I love you.”

“Love you too Mom.” Liz hung up to phone and proceeded to pull the comforter off the bed and wrap herself inside, leaving Max with the rest of the sheets. Liz toddled out into the hallway and turned up the thermostat.

She heard a knock at the door and tottered her way to it as fast as she could with the comforter wrapped tightly around her.

“Hey Liz,” Maria said as she entered the apartment. “Why is it so cold in here?”

“Forgot to turn up the heat,” she answered.

Maria flopped on the couch and propped her feet on the coffee table. “Why aren’t you ready? I thought we were supposed to go shopping.”

“I know, I overslept. I wouldn't have woken up if my Mom hadn’t called,” she said as she made her way into the kitchen. She fixed herself a bowl of cereal and joined Maria on the couch. “My dad’s back went out again, so Alex and I have to fly out to Roswell for winter break.”

“So that means we won’t be together for Christmas. What are you and your husband gonna do about that?”

“My hus…. Maria, he’s not my husband and we aren’t going to do anything about it.”

Maria joined her in the kitchen. “So you’re telling me that you can spend two whole weeks without him and be perfectly happy?”

Liz sighed, her stomach clinching at the thought of that. “Okay, I’ll miss him like crazy. But we weren’t going to be together anyway. He’s going to Florida to see his family.”

“Oh. Well where is he anyway?”

“Still sleeping.”

“Well go wake his ass up so he can go shopping with us.”

“Maria…”

“What? With all that money his parents have, he needs to buy me an outfit or two… or ten,” she said with a wicked smirk.

“Maria his parents are rich. Max doesn’t like taking hand outs.”

“He still can buy me an outfit after I so graciously gave up my last cans of soup for him when he was sick,” she expressed dramatically. “I’ll go wake him myself.” Maria stood and stalked down the hall towards Max’s room.

“Um Maria… he’s not in there,” Liz said. Her cheeks burned with embarrassment as she pointed her to room.

Maria smirked as she entered Liz’s room, finding Max curled under the sheets. “Why am I not surprised?” Liz’s blush deepened. “He’s not naked is he?

“Maria!”

She laughed as she made her way to Max’s side. “Max! Time to get up!” she said as she shook his shoulder.

Max moaned and swatted Maria’s hand away. “Five more minutes Liz.”

Maria frowned and then slapped his butt. “Get up lover boy. You’re taking Liz and me shopping!”

Max cracked one eye open. “Maria why must you bother me right now? Get Michael to go.”

“Michael’s at work. Come on Max. Please.” Maria threw herself over him and Liz frowned when she saw her whispering something in his ear. He glanced at Liz before looking at Maria.

“Give me a few minutes to get ready.” Maria smiled as she and Liz headed out of the room.

“What’d you say to him?”

Maria smiled evilly. “I promised him that he could be in the fitting room with you while you’re trying on clothes.”

“Maria!!”

“Hey, go get ready so we can go. Some brand new shoes bought with Michael’s credit card is calling my name,” she said as she pushed Liz in the direction of the bathroom. Liz whirled around and glared at Maria before dejectedly going into the bathroom.

After Max and Liz dressed, the three headed out and hauled a cab. Three hours later, Liz hadn’t bought a thing except a pair of boots and some see through top that Max made her get.

“Can we go home now,” Max whined. He was upset that she hadn’t let him stay in the fitting room with her when she was trying on some lingerie that she wanted.

“No. I’m not done,” Maria insisted.

Liz laughed at the pitiful look on Max’s face and took a seat beside him near the fitting rooms.

“Liz she’s tried on everything in the store. I can’t handle all this frilly shit. I’m a man. I should be in a hardware store somewhere.”

Liz laughed as she hooked her arm with his. “You wanna go shopping for manly things after this? You need a new jockstrap?”

“Liz!”

She giggled at the horrified look on his face. “She’ll be done in a minute.”

“And then can we go eat?”

She laid her head on his shoulder as he laced his fingers with hers. “Yes and then we eat.” He smiled brightly and twenty minutes later, Maria was finally ready to go.

Max held onto her hand as they followed Maria to the cashier and then as they stepped outside into the softly falling snow. His fingers remained intertwined with hers while they walked a few blocks to a nearby restaurant.

Liz had a hard time trying to wipe the smile off her face.
*********

Liz entered her room after her shower and found Max already in bed. She smiled and under the sheets with him.

“Did we wear you out today?” she giggled.

He pulled her close. “Yes,” he grunted.

“I’m sorry. How can I make it up to you?”

“Just lay here with me.” Liz smiled and cuddled against his chest. Just as she got comfortable, he pulled away and looked at the shirt she was wearing, which happened to be another one of his that she’d stolen out of his closet. “Why aren’t you wearing that see through thing? Liz I didn’t buy it just it could collect dust in your closet.”

“I didn’t want it in the first place. You made me get it.”

“Liz please.” He poked out his lower lip in a cute little pout. Although he looked adorable, she didn’t cave.

“No! Why do you want me to wear that thing anyway?”

“I think the reasons are obvious,” he said with a evil smile.

Liz laughed “You’re a perv. You know that right?”

He simply smiled and pressed his forehead against hers as he normally did. “Who was on the phone this morning?”

“My mom. My dad threw his back out again so Alex and I are going to Roswell for Christmas.”

“How’d that happen?”

“Old age.”

Max chuckled. “Why don’t you come with me to Florida for the holidays?”

Liz pulled away from him in shock. “Excuse me?”

“Why don’t you and your family come to Florida?”

Slowly, a smile formed on Liz’s lips as she thought about Max’s offer. “Seriously?”

“Yeah. My parents own some condos along the coast and we always go to one for the holidays.” She gaped at him in surprise. Sometimes she’d forget Max’s family was wealthy. He never acted as if his family’s bank account was overflowing and that was one of the things she liked about him.

“Really? Your family wouldn’t mind?” she asked as she let the excitement bubble inside her.

“There’s room for all of you and my parents are always inviting people over for the holidays. I figure if I invite you before they can invite some of their older, more winkled companions than I’ll save myself from two weeks of boredom,” he laughed.

“Oh, so you’re just looking out for yourself,” she teased.

“Yeah. And I couldn’t possibly survive the whole winter break without seeing you Doll,” he said as he chucked her underneath his chin with his finger. Initially, Liz thought he was just joking, but she saw the serious look in his hazel eyes.

Liz found herself blushing as Max continued to smile at her. “Thank you Max,” she said as she pulled him into a hug.

“I’ll call and let them know,” he said. Liz squealed beside him as he rolled over and grabbed the phone. Minutes later, he was smiling brightly as Liz snatched the phone out of his hand and quickly called her parents and Alex. Max rolled out of bed as she talked with her family and they excitedly made plans for Liz’s parents to meet them in Florida.

Max returned, sandwich in hand, just as Liz hung up the phone.

“Everything set?” He asked as he slid in bed.

“Yeah. They’re so excited.” He offered his sandwich and she took a bite before she continued. “I can’t wait. Instead of waiting three days, we should leave right now,” she exclaimed.

“As tempting as that sounds Doll, we can’t. We still have classes to attend and jobs to go to.” Max polished off the rest of his sandwiched before he wrapped his arms around her.

“Oh yeah.” She ruffled his hair playfully and Max frowned. “Okay. I’m sorry, I’ll fix it back.” She brushed his hair back, but he didn’t look satisfied.

“Now it’s all messed up,” he pouted.

“Max, it didn’t look all that great from the get go,” she teased. He growled and she squealed as he rolled on top of her and tickled her.

She screamed and kicked and tried to wiggle her way from underneath him, but he easily overpowered her.

“Max, please!! Stop!” she screamed as he held both of her hands down with one of his and attacked her ruthlessly.

He didn’t stop until tears of mirth were pouring out of her eyes and her cheeks were sore from laughing so much.

“I seriously hate you right now,” she giggled as she wiped her eyes. “Get off me. You're heavy.”

“No.” He stretched out on top of her. “You smell good,” he said as he buried his face in her neck.

“Don’t try and butter me up. I still hate you.”

“Sure you do.” He smirked.

“What?" she shrieked when he continued to stare. "Why are you looking at me like that?” His smirk had disappeared and his hazel eyes darkened as his gaze dropped to her lips.

“Like what?” he murmured.

She licked her lips and draped her arms around his neck. “Like maybe you want to kiss me.”

“Hmm." He dropped his lips onto her shoulder and left a trail of kisses up to the the underside of her jaw. He stopped when he reached her cheek and turned his darkened eyes to hers. "Well, maybe that’s because I do.”

Excitement bubbled in her chest, her pulse raced and her heart thumped like crazy. The way he was looking at her; she wished he’d kiss her already.

“Well then… what are you waiting for?” She bit her lip, hoping she wouldn’t get burned for being too bold.

He covered her lips, leaving little time for doubts. It didn’t take long for the kiss to turn fervent and she tightened her arms around his neck to bring him closer. She slid her tongue against his, immensely enjoying the taste of him. He rolled on his side, taking her with him. And they laid, chest to chest, tangled in a mass of limbs as she fell deeper in the kiss.

They broke apart, gasping for air, his clouded eyes meeting hers. His fingers traced her swollen lips and he smiled. She felt her heart bursting with joy then sighing in relief as he leaned in once more.

It felt like she was coming home.

Chapter 13

Liz opened the door to reveal the giddy faces of Maria and Alex with a scowling Michael following quickly behind them.

“Hey Lizzie,” Alex greeted his sister cheerfully. “Are you ready? The cab’s waiting downstairs.”

“Sunny Florida here we come,” Maria squealed. Liz told Maria that she was going to Florida with Max and he saw how excited she was and decided to invite Maria and Michael too.

“Yeah. I just have to go get Max up. They made him work last night and he got home two hours ago.”

“Well get his ass up! We’re going to miss our flight,” Maria said.

“Can you guys get our bags while I go wake him?” Maria and Alex nodded while Michael grumbled.

“I don’t see why we had to have a flight so early anyway,” Michael commented as Liz left the room.

“Sleep on the plane grumpy,” Maria muttered.

Max was sprawled across her bed, fast asleep when she entered her room.

Liz didn’t know they were to each other anymore. They weren’t really a couple, but they acted like one. They weren’t together, but they acted like they were. They hadn’t talked about the kiss they shared and it seemed like both of them were reluctant to bring it up. It made no sense, but Max went along with it and so did she.

She was still skeptical about going in all the way with him; wondering if he could really commit to her and not break her heart.

She climbed on the bed beside him and gently shook his shoulder. “Max, it’s time to get up.”

“Hmm… just five more minutes Doll,” he moaned as he nuzzled his nose in the pillow.

“We don’t have five minutes. We’re going to miss our flight if we don’t get going.” His deep, even breathing was her only answer. And she rolled her eyes as she leaned down and whispered in his ear. “Max, look. I want you to tell me if one of my breasts look bigger than the other.”

He was startled awake then, gazing at her with cloudy eyes. But when he noticed she wasn’t topless, he simply groaned and rolled over. “Don’t play with my emotions like that Liz.”

Giggling at the disappointed tone in his voice, Liz grabbed his hand and pulled him up. “Come on. Slip on your shoes and coat and let’s go.”

“Where are we going?” he asked as he shoved on his boots. He’d fallen into bed without even changing which Liz was highly grateful for right now.

“Uh… Florida. Winter break, Christmas….duh.”

Still disoriented, he frowned as he tried to get himself together. Liz sighed, grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the room. She grabbed both of their coats, locked up the apartment and hurried towards the elevator with Max stumbling behind her.

“What? Hung over?” she questioned when he reached out to her for balance when the elevator began to make it’s descend.

“I think I’m still drunk.”

“Why’d you drink so much when you knew we had to get up early?”

“What else is a bartender supposed to do?” He shrugged innocently just as the elevator doors opened and the two stepped out.

The group caught their flight just in time and after arguing over who would get the window seat, Max finally caved, not having the energy to argue, and let Liz have it. As soon as the plane took off, he was out like a light, his head lolling against her shoulder, their clasped hands lying idly on her thigh.

“Spill girl,” Maria exclaimed as she popped up from the seat in front of her.

“What?”

“I saw that kiss you two shared in the cab and then again when we were waiting in line to get on the plane. And let me tell you that wasn’t a ‘hello I’m your best friend’ type kiss.”

“Maria, he’s right here!” Liz hissed.

Maria snapped her fingers and waved her hand in front of Max’s face. When she got no reaction and he slept on, Maria smiled in satisfaction. “See, he’s dead to the world. Now spill. Have you two done it yet? How big is he? Is he good? How many times have you done it? Is he officially done with his man whorish ways?”

“Maria, we haven’t done it,” she said as if that would explain everything. Maria narrowed her eyes as her gaze dropped to Max and Liz’s clasped hands. “Max and I kissed the other day...”

Maria squealed before Liz could finish. “Finally! I swear the world was going to end before you two hooked up.”

“Maria, we’re not together… I really don’t know what we are right now. It’s like we’re in some sort of relationship limbo, where we just kiss and that’s the extent of it,” she sighed in exasperation, but she stilled when Max shifted in his sleep. Once he settled down and his soft snoring could be heard, Liz relaxed. “Maria now is not the time to discuss this. Wait until we land.”

“Liz, I can’t wait until we get to Florida. I want details now. When did it happen? How did it happen? Did he confess his undying love for you?”

“Maria, lower your voice,” she whispered. “We’re just friends with benefits right now. That’s all.”

“You were always friends with benefits. I call being around that body of his a major benefit.”

“Hey,” Michael called as he too turned around in his seat. “I heard that. Don’t forget that I’m your boyfriend and I have a pretty nice body too.”

Maria kissed him softly on his lips. “And that you do,” she replied huskily. “When we laid, I’m gonna fu…”

Liz sighed and slapped her hand against her forehead. Once Maria was through working Michael up and stroking his ego she turned her attention back to Liz.

“So you’re not together but you kiss each other? You haven’t moved forward with your relationship because…”

Liz looked at her friend as if she’d grown a second head. “Maria you know how he is. He’s with a different woman every night.”

“And yet he worships the ground you walk on. You’re like Mecca to him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he told you that he was in love with you.”

“Maria…” She was uncomfortable having this conversation while he was sleeping right there. She was uncomfortable having the conversation period. “Maria, this conversation is closed,” she said firmly. She didn’t want to risk Max waking up and hearing what they were talking about.

“Fine,” she concurred with an all-knowing smirk. “We’ll see what happens when we get to Florida.” With that, she turned around in her seat.
************

They were greeted at the airport by Kyle and Max’s sister, Isabel, who looked like someone straight out of a magazine. Liz had seen pictures of her, but she looked stunning in person. Alex seemed to think so too, considering that he just stared at her as if she was the first woman he’d ever seen

Max held his grip on Liz’s hand as he embraced the supermodel look-a-like. “Hey Belly.”

She tore out of the embrace and punched Max on his arm and from the pain on Max’s face, it must’ve been hard. “How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that? You know I hate that.”

“Sorry, geez, you always gotta resort to violence,” he mumbled. “Hey Kyle,” he said before embracing his brother. “I feel sorry for you having to live in the same state with her again,” he murmured. Kyle snickered and Isabel glared at him, with a look promising of pain later. Max’s smile quickly dropped and he stepped away.

“Everyone, this is my sister Isabel. Isabel, this is Michael Maria, Alex and Liz.” Isabel greeted everyone, shooting Alex a funny look who was still staring.

“So, this is the famous Liz Parker,” Isabel smiled knowingly down at Liz, causing her to squirm uncomfortably. "Nice to finally meet you."

"You too," she said shyly, hiding her face against Max's arm.

“Well, let’s go get our bags and head home,” Max said. Everyone agreed and soon they piled into two SUV’s and headed away from the airport.
**********

“Alex!! Lizze!” Liz smiled wildly at the sight of her parents rushing towards the car. She jumped out and embraced them both. After staying in New York the whole summer, the last time she saw her parents was during Spring Break and she missed them dearly.

“Oh look at my two babies,” her mother cooed as Alex hopped out and joined the embrace. “You both are all grown up,” she cried. “I have no more babies.”

“Mom,” both Alex and Liz sighed. Nancy Parker always got emotional whenever Liz and Alex would come home and then leave again. She said it was only natural after having raised them for eighteen years and suddenly having to let them go.

Nancy squeezed her kids until Jeff came and pried them out of her arms. Liz looked over to see Mrs. Evans doing the same thing to Max. He smiled at her over his mother’s shoulder, before rolling his eyes as his mother pulled back to pinched his cheeks.

After all the introductions, Mr. Evans escorted them all into the house.

The house was majestically beautiful, sitting on a large expanse of land in Miami. The house had eight expensively decorated bedrooms; six with private bathrooms and two that shared one. Each room opened up to its own balcony, overlooking the pool and private shoreline, not far from Miami Beach, but far enough not to be disturbed.

After the tour of the house, the Parkers wandered off on their own to choose the bedroom they wanted to stay in.

Liz grabbed her bags and hauled them up the stairs and into the room she chose. The furniture was a deep cherry color sitting on plush white carpet. The room smelled like Max which is exactly why she chose it.

A pair of strapping arms wrapped themselves around her waist from behind and she immediately molded into the firm chest behind her. “Nice choice,” Max said. “My room.”

“Oh, this is your room?” she said, feigning unawareness.

“Mmhm.” His arms slipped away and he trailed his fingers down her arm before grabbing her hand. “But I don’t mind sharing.” He winked and flashed an alluring smile. Liz knew with that combination, she was his and she was under his spell.

He led her to the bed and pulled her onto his lap. She knew what he wanted and if he kept looking at her like that, she was going to have to give it to him.

“Max, we can’t,” she said, even as her eyes dropped to his lips

“We can,” he insisted. He easily lifted her so that she was straddling him. “You have no idea how much I want you.”

Max leaned forward, obviously eager to join his lips with hers, but Liz dodged his lips, still hesitant to give in to him.

“I think I have a slight idea,” she whispered huskily as she rubbed against the hard tent in his jeans.

“Just a slight idea?”

She jerked her hips against his, causing him to groan. “I think my ideas might be growing.”

“Yeah?” he mumbled as he attached his lips against her neck.

“Mmhmm.”

“Maybe we could explore some of those ideas of yours.”

“Or maybe not.” Max jerked to his feet in horror at the sound of Liz’s dad at the door, causing Liz to slide off him and crash to the floor. Max scrambled to help Liz to her feet and he purposely set her in front of him to hide his raging arousal.

“Hi Daddy. Max and I were just… um….” Liz looked up at Max for help, but he seemed too petrified to speak. She was caught between wanting to die of embarrassment and cracking up at Max’s expression.

“I only came up because the rest of the kids wanted you two to join them for a swim,” he explained, his eyes darting from Liz to Max and then back again. “Liz, why don’t you go and change into your swim suit while Max and I have a talk.” Liz almost lost it then. She felt Max tensing behind her and although she knew she should feel sorry for the poor guy, it was just too funny.

“Okay,” she said. She moved a few steps away from Max before he grabbed her hand and pulled her back to him.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to move,” he whispered to her. “Please don’t leave me with him.”

“Sorry,” she said as she gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. “I’ll pray for you. And I’ll say nice things at your funeral.” Liz retrieved her swimsuit out of her suitcase and waited until she reached the safety of the bathroom before bursting into laughter.

Max and her father were gone by the time Liz was finished dressing. Liz put away her clothes, grabbed her towel and headed downstairs. She got lost on the way to the pool and stopped Mrs. Evans in the hall and asked for directions.

“Go straight down that hall and turn left and walk right out to the patio. Can’t miss it,” she said.

“Thanks Mrs. Evans.”

“Just call me Diane sweetie,” she said with a warm smile. Liz liked Mrs. Evans. She was sweet and she reminded her of her own mother which was probably why the two were hitting it off so well. Mr. Evans and Liz’s dad seemed close already too. Liz just hoped that Mr. Evans could get her father to act his own age.

Liz shifted uneasily under Diane’s stare. “Diane?” Liz said when she continued to stare.

“Oh, I’m sorry sweetie. It’s just… Seeing you with Max… I just want to thank you.”

Liz frowned. “Thank me?”

“I haven’t seen Max smiling so much since Stacie. I don’t know what you’re doing, but thank you for bringing the life back into my son back.” Diane pulled her into an embrace. With that and another sweet smile which made Liz feel so welcome in her home, she left Liz to wonder who Stacie was and what Max was hiding from her.

Once Liz found the large pool in the backyard, she waved to her friends who were already splashing around and settled on a lounger.

Liz sighed in content, but that didn’t last long. She squealed as Max came out of nowhere and scooped her into his arms, taking long, smooth strides to the edge of the pool before he tossed her in as if she weighed nothing at all. She surfaced just in time to see him jumping in beside her and she turned away to avoid his splash from getting in her eyes.

Max surfaced, an adorable, innocent smile adorning his lips as his eyes glittered against the sun.

“Asshole,” she growled playfully as she splashed him.

“What? You looked like you were getting overheated over there,” he explained. “I just wanted to cool you down.” Liz couldn’t help it. She burst into laughter, just excited to be in Florida, with Max, her family and friends.

She let Max wrap his arms around her waist as his head dropped to rest his forehead against hers. “Having fun?”

“Yeah. Thanks again for inviting us Max.”

“Hey, I told you I couldn’t go two weeks without my girl by my side,” he murmured as his eyes dipped to her lips. “I’ve gotten too attached to falling asleep with you next to me.”

Liz shivered, but not because of the cool water, but because of Max’s hands, running up and down her back, his fingers playing lazily at the strings that held the top to her swim suit together.

“Are you sure you want to sleep in the same bed with me? You know, with my father, the man you were terrified to be alone with a few minutes ago, is going to be living in the same house as you for four days. He’s very protective of me.” A satisfied smirk formed on her face when Max pulled away from her slightly as his eyes widened in fear.

“What’d he say to you?”

“I don’t know. I was too busy trying not to pee my pants,” he said seriously. “He said something about using condoms and coming after me with a shotgun and a shovel. I can only imagine what the shovel is for.”

“I’m sorry for leaving you.”

“He doesn’t scare me,” he stated in a less than convincing voice.

Liz giggled as she brought her arms around his neck. “Yeah right,” she chuckled.

“That doesn’t mean we can’t fool around in private,” he smirked.

“Well we’re not in private right now.”

“This is an exception,” he said. His lips descended on hers before she could respond and before she could enjoy it, they were interrupted.

“Ohhh!! There’s some action going on in the pool.” Max and Liz broke apart to find Kyle and Michael standing by the edge of the pool, grinning like idiots at the couple. “It’s about damn….” Michael was abruptly cut off when Maria crept up behind them and shoved them into the water.

“You know, I never realized how annoying you two are until this very moment,” Max growled. Kyle jumped in and soon the simple splashing turned into an all out water wrestling war and Liz quietly snuck away to avoid being pulled in the middle of it.

Liz swam to the stairs and watched as Alex jumped in the middle of it and he and Max joined forces against Michael and Kyle.

Maria appeared next to her, a small smile gracing her lips. “Maaarrria, there is nothing going on. We’re just friends. And that’s all we’ll ever be,” Maria said, doing a perfect impression of Liz.

Liz sighed dreamily as Max sent a wink her way before continuing on with Michael, Kyle and Alex. “I could be wrong sometimes you know.”

This one's a little longer than the other parts. I hope you don't mind.

Chapter 14

The slight click of the bathroom door being shut woke Liz and she cracked her eyes open to glance at the clock beside the bed. It was barely five in the morning and she wondered what Max was doing up so early.

She watched him tiptoe past the bed to the dresser with only a pair of low riding jeans on. His chest was damp, droplets of water ran down his sculpted body and she watched one fall until it disappeared into the fabric of his jeans.

“Max?” He whirled around, forgetting his search in the drawer. “What are you doing up this early? Come back to bed.” She held out her hand and patted the space where he once was laying.

He crossed the room and was pulling her into his arms a few seconds later. “Go back to sleep Doll,” he told her as he kissed the tip of her nose.

She didn’t want to, but the way he was relaxingly stroking her back was getting to her and she found her eyes drooping closed. She fell asleep quickly and awoke later to find Max gone.

On her way downstairs, Liz ran into Alex who quickly pulled her into his room.

“Alex, what the hell is wrong with you?”

“Liz I need help,” he said as he shut the door behind him and rushed over to the bed. “Which shirt do I wear?!” he said frantically as he held up two shirts that looked almost identical, except one was a sky blue color and the other was pale green.

“What has gotten in to you?”

“Nothing,” he claimed as he shifted from foot to foot anxiously.

“Does this have anything to do with Isabel?” She smirked when he immediately protested. He had been acting crazy ever since he’d gotten off the plane and it was obvious to her that her brother had a crush on Isabel Evans.

“You like her,” she teased.

“Liz.”

“You want to kiss her.”

Liiizz.”

“You think she’s pretty.”

“Liz stop,” he whined. Liz laughed as he pouted. “She asked me out for breakfast and I don’t know what to wear.”

“Wear the blue one. It makes you look handsome and less like… well you.”

Alex scowled at her before kicking her out of the room.

“Liz!!” Liz turned to see Maria running out of her room in nothing but her bikini. “Can you actually believe that it’s seventy degrees outside whereas we’d be freezing our asses in New York’s twenty below weather?”

“Are you going to walk around in nothing but your bikini all day?” Liz giggled.

“Yes and you are too. Let’s go out to the beach and get some sun.” Liz smiled and hurried to change her clothes.

Soon, the two were laid out on sand, enjoying the gorgeous day.

“So you sound happy today. You and Michael do anything special last night?” Liz teased.

“Oh we did a lot of special things,” she giggled. Maria held out her hand and at first, Liz was confused until she saw the large ring on her finger.

“Oh my God!!” Liz exclaimed.

“I know.” Maria glowed as she smiled brightly.

“Congratulations!” Liz squealed as she pulled her friend into a hug.

“Thanks. He said that he was going to do it on New Year’s but he couldn’t wait,” she giggled. Liz could tell from just looking at Maria that she was absolutely giddy. “He was so cute Liz. You should’ve seen him all nervous and babbling…”

“It’s hard to imagine Michael babbling,” Liz laughed. “Where is he by the way?”

Maria smiled as she admired her ring. “Still sleeping,” she sighed dreamily.

Liz frowned. “Have you seen Max today?”

Maria managed to tear her eyes away from her ring long enough to answer her. “No. Why?”

“He got up really early this morning and I haven’t seen him since.”

“Well…hmm.” Maria frowned.

“What? What are you thinking about now?”

“I’m just wondering what you and Max are. Are you a couple, are you friends are you… what? Seeing you two together… it’s just…”

“What?”

Maria shrugged before dropping her gaze back down to her engagement ring. “You just seem so happy.” Maria looked at her friend with a bright smile. “I want you to have what I have. I want you to feel that love.”

“Maria what am I going to do? I mean I want to be with him. I really… really want to. But I’m scared I’m going to get hurt. I should have listened to you about him in the get go...” she said as she ran a frustrated hand through her hair.

“Do you think Max would do that to you? Do you think he would do anything to hurt you?”

“No.” She knew that Max would never use her like that. But she still had her doubts. “But he’s been with so many women. How do I compare? How can I compete with all those gorgeous women he’s been with? And who is this Stacie person?”

“Liz you’re a catch and you don’t even know it. And just ask him about it, I’m sure he’ll tell you.” Maria gestured behind her and Liz turned and saw Max, along with Michael, walking towards them, clad in the swim shorts.

“Hello fiancé,” Michael murmured as he sat next to Maria.

“Hey fiancée,” she giggled back. Max and Liz stood awkwardly to the side as Maria and Michael engaged in a long, heated kiss.

“Why don’t we leave them alone, they’ll be at it for awhile,” Max said. They moved a safe distance away from the couple and spread Liz’s beach towel for them to share.

“Where’d you go this morning?” Liz asked him.

“I had some business to take care of,” he answered vaguely as he pulled off his t-shirt, revealing his hard chest. “You have any suntan lotion?”

Liz rubbed the lotion over his back, while Max finished putting lotion on his chest and waited for Liz to finish with his back before he kissed her lightly. “Thank you.”

“Alex is in love with your sister,” she started when he pulled her into his arms.

“I think she has a crush on him too,” Max chuckled, but stopped shortly after scanning her body with his eyes. “Did I tell you that you look gorgeous in that swimsuit?”

“No. You don’t look so bad yourself,” she returned as she ran a lone finger down his chest.

He let out a growl deep in his throat. “You’re playing with fire Parker. Be careful, it could get hot.”

Liz licked her lips as she let him ease her back on the blanket. “Is that a threat or a promise?” He raised his eyebrow in surprise as he hovered over her. His tongue darted out to wet his lips before he dove in.

She shivered under the heat of the sun as his fingers ran down the side of her body. She loved the way his touch made her feel.

She faintly heard a throat being cleared in the distance and she turned her head to look, giving Max the perfect opportunity to attack her neck.

“Mom! Dad!” she shrieked when she realized her parents were watching them. Her father stood with his brow raised in curiosity and her mother sported a slight smile.

“Dad? Wha…” Max turned to see what Liz was looking at and quickly scrambled away from Liz. “M-Mr. and Mrs. Parker! Um… Liz and I… we weren’t… I didn’t… It wasn’t what it looked like,” he stuttered.

“Then what was it Max? Cause from here, it looked like you were groping my daughter,” Mr. Parker said. Tears of mirth sprung to Liz’s eyes as she tried to hold back her laughter. She knew her father was just playing with Max, but it was fun to see him squirm and fumble, which was a very unMax-like thing to do.

“Jeff! Leave the poor boy alone,” Nancy admonished her husband. Nancy turned to Max and Liz could’ve sworn he jumped another five feet away from her. “Don’t worry about him. He’s just kidding.”

“Remember what we talked about Max?” Jeff said as he set up his lounger.

Max’s eyes grew wide and Liz sobered up and intervened. “Okay, Daddy, leave him alone,” Liz said. She started to feel sorry for Max. He looked like he was about to soil himself.

She got up to embrace her mother and kiss her father on his cheek. “How’s your back Daddy?”

“Better.”

“Great. Um… Max and I are going to get something to eat.” She turned to Max who was still sitting in shock a few feet away.

She rolled her eyes as she pulled him to his feet. “See you two later,” Nancy called as Liz pulled Max towards the house.

“You’re not scared of him huh?” she teased.

He groaned as he looked longingly at her. “I am not going to make it out of these two weeks alive.”
*********

Liz turned her gaze away from the darkening sky as Max stepped out onto the patio.

After dinner, Liz had slipped away from the group, needing some time alone to think. She wanted to figure out what she was going to say to Max because they really needed to talk about what was going on with them. She wanted to define their relationship and she wanted to know who this Stacie person was.

“Hey. I’ve been looking for you.” He pulled her up from her lounger, sat down and then pulled her between his legs. He playfully nipped at her neck causing her to giggle. “I’m glad you’re here with me.”

“I’m glad I’m here too.” She smiled when he rubbed his nose against her temple, but gasped when he attached his lips to the column of her neck. “Max, we shouldn’t... not right now.” Though she verbally protested, she was helpless to stop his busy lips while she melted in his arms and tilted her head to give him greater access to her skin.

“Max we can’t do this… you know? We really… really need to talk.”

He halted his intense kisses and placed his finger over her lips. “Shhhhh,” he whispered before replacing his finger with his lips. His tongue slid against hers, caressing her mouth and diving in and out in a sensual dance. She shifted in his embrace, getting closer to him in any way she could.

Her head spinned with desire, Liz ground her hips against his, her arms wrapping tightly around his neck to bury her fingers in his ravished hair. She felt Max’s hands running up the sides of her shirt and she shivered with the contact of his rough hands against her smooth skin. She briefly wondered how just from the touch of his finger tips could he make her feel so good.

Her hands slithered down his chest and back up again underneath his shirt. “Liz,” he ground out with a deep grunt as she pressed her core closer to his straining arousal.

“Max…. we should stop,” Liz moaned as he moved his hot mouth along her jaw before stopping to nip at the space behind her ear. She threw her head back, offering him more room to do whatever he pleased as she rocked into him.

“This… is so bad,” she whimpered.

“Shhh.” His tongue darted out to trace the shell of her ear. “You drive me crazy Liz.”

“I-I do?” She pulled away, but his lips chased after hers, pulling her in for another deep kiss.

For a split second, Liz was able to take a much needed breath. She caught a glimpse of his dazed eyes before she dove in again, kissing his swollen lips feverishly with him responding just as roughly.

“I really….really like you Liz,” he murmured between kisses. “And I… I don’t mean in an innocent, best friend kind of way. This is different.” His lips came down hard on hers and again she was lost in the taste of him. “This is strong. I can’t stop it.”

“Why would you want to?”

He stopped of all movement then and he pulled away from her. “What?”

“Why would you want to stop whatever it is that you feel about me?” He didn’t answer. “Does this have anything to do with Stacie?”

His eyes widened and his face drained of all color. “H-How did you know about her?”

“Your mom mentioned her the other day. I think that she thought I already knew about her.” Max lifted her off his lap and he got up to pace the patio. "Why didn't you tell me about her?"

Liz watched him and waited for him to reply. She started to worry when he didn’t and continued to pace.

“Max I…”

He stopped in front of her and lowered his gaze to the ground. “I met Stacie near the end of my sophomore year of high school.” Liz grabbed his hand and pulled him down next to her. It seemed to her that whatever had happened with this girl, Max had never fully gotten over and she would be here when he needed her.

“I didn’t have that much experience with girls. Stacie was new to town and I was immediately attracted to her. We started talking and we became a couple over the summer. She was everything that I wanted in a person and I fell in love with her. We were together through junior year and I showered her with gifts because I wanted to show her how much I loved her.”

“What happened to her?”

He ducked his head as if he was ashamed of what he was about to say. “That summer, we went to this party and it was my first time ever drinking alcohol. She kept offering me beers and like a dumbass I kept accepting them. I got so wasted that night and I remember her dragging me up the stairs and into a room. She asked me if I loved her and I told her I did. She offered me another beer and I took it. I don’t remember what happened next.”

Liz feared what he would tell her next. She prayed it wasn’t what she was thinking.

“I was naked when I woke up the next morning and Stacie was gone.”

“Max, you were drunk. You don’t know if anything happened or not,” Liz reasoned.

He shook his head, keeping his gaze low. “The evidence was there. I still had the condom on.” Liz squeezed his fingers when she saw him wipe his eyes. She had never seen Max cry before and her heart went out to him. “After that she wouldn’t return my calls. And her parents always told me she wasn’t home when I tried to visit her. She avoided me until I walked in on her and some other guy making out under the bleachers in the gym.”

Liz pulled him into her arms and he buried his face against her chest. His breathing was heavy and she could tell he was trying to keep his tears at bay. His arms tightened around her waist and it wasn’t long before she felt the wetness of his tears through her shirt.

He told her that this was why he slept around, because with those girls, he knew he was in control of what happened and there wasn’t any commitment that could come back to bite him in the ass.

She understood now and held him even tighter.

The sky was almost dark now and they laid on the lounger in silence as Liz soothingly rubbed his back.

“No one knows what happened,” he said. “My parents think that it was just a relationship gone wrong and I never told Kyle and Isabel about her. They were off at college when I was with her.” He nuzzled his nose against her neck.

“You’re better off without her Max. She didn’t know how good she had it.”

“Thank you for saying that.”

“I’m only telling the truth.” That earned her a smile and he intertwined his fingers with hers.

“I wanted to tell you… I wanted you to know, but it still hurt. I don’t want her to affect me this way, but it still hurts that she could tell me she loved me and then do that to me.”

Liz kissed the crown of his head. “It’s like you can’t find a logical explanation for it, like maybe you’re in a dream,” she said. Max nodded. “I know how it feels.”

He picked his head off her chest. “You do, don’t you? You know how it feels.”

“Yeah.”

His lips were on hers before she could blink. And she let herself drown in his touch before she pushed his roaming hands away. He stopped his exploration of her mouth with his tongue and gazed at her with clouded eyes.

“We need to stop for a second,” she panted. Max nodded as he tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear.

“This is complicated,” she sighed.

“No.” He smiled, looking as if he were in a trance. She was trapped in the intensity of his eyes and she barely snapped herself back to reality when he began talking. “It’s really simple actually. I can’t get you out of my mind Liz. And I’m sorry for just… attacking you like that, but…”

“I really like you too Max, but I don’t know. ”

He rolled his eyes to the sky, lingering on the darkening purple, pink and red colors before turning his gaze back to her; his eyes were shining in disappointment. “Why? I mean, you just said….”

“I know. But what would we be? I mean… You’re hurting over what Stacie did to you. Are you really ready to commit to me? Or do you just want me for sex like all those other girls?”

“Liz, I would never do that to you. You mean more to me than that,” he declared honestly.

“Max, if we continued with this, I’d want a relationship. You… You’ve practically slept with every woman in New York. If you can’t give me all of you and be with only me than we can’t do this and we need to stop right now. ” Max averted his gaze and Liz couldn’t tell what emotions where flashing in his eyes. “Can you honestly say that you would give up all those tall, big breasted women for me? They’re the complete opposite of me…”

“Liz, do you trust me?” he asked as he stroked her cheek.

“I do,” she said without hesitation as she leaned into his caress. “I trust you with everything I have. But I’m still reluctant to give you my heart.” She watched as his face fell and she felt terrible. But it was how she felt and she wasn’t about to lie to him. She didn’t want either of them getting hurt and maybe she was wrong for these last couple of days. She had led him on and that was a mistake on her part. But she couldn’t give herself to him if she couldn’t have all of him in return.

He removed his hand as his eyes dropped his lap. He was silent and right now, she really wished that none of this would’ve happened; that everything would go back to normal.

“I… um… I have to go,” he said as he slid off the lounger, leaving Liz shivering from the loss of his arms around her to hold her close. “I’ll see you later Liz.”

He was out of sight before she could say anything else.

Later that night, Liz decided that it was best that she and Max slept apart. It would be the first time in mouths and she was already missing his arms. She chose an empty room down the hall from his and got ready for bed, still using Max’s shirt as her pajamas.

It had been an hour since Max left her sitting out on the patio. While she was climbing into bed, she suddenly stilled when she heard his voice outside her door, talking to Isabel. She couldn’t deny that she hoped he would come and climb in bed with her. But she realized that wasn’t going to happen and with a disappointed sigh, she settled beneath the sheets and waited for sleep to take her.

Before she could fall asleep, a knock at her door disturbed her and Max poked his head in before opening the door fully. Liz sat up to regard him.

“So I walk into my room after brushing my teeth,” he started as he hovered in the doorway. “The first thing I notice is that you’re not there.” He stepped inside and shut the door behind him. “The second thing I noticed is how cold it is and then I feel the hairs on my neck standing on ends. I swear I saw something moving in the corner and when I flick on the light, I see it.”

“See what?”

“Liz, it was green with orange slime… very tacky looking by the way. It ran across the room, flicked the light off and then ran back into its corner.” He had the nerve to actually shudder and Liz let her lips curl into a smile.

“Are you saying that there’s a monster in your room?” Liz giggled. Max nodded and Liz rolled her eyes. “Did it come from the closet or beneath the bed?” she teased.

“The closet, I think. It had on my favorite shirt,” he pouted.

Liz sighed in disbelief at the man standing before her. She watched him for awhile, with a hopeful look in his eyes and she pulled back the sheets and patted the space beside her. “Come on,” she invited.

A smile lightened his features as he quickly made his way to the bed. “You’re pathetic, you know,” Liz said as he lay next to her. He stretched out his arm which she used as her pillow. “You could’ve just asked if you could sleep in here.”

He smiled. “It was more fun this way.”

“Where’d you go?” she asked as she settled into his embrace.

“I was sitting on the beach. I needed to think.”

“About what happened earlier Max…”

“Liz, I understand what you were saying. I mean, how could I have expected for you to just accept what I was saying? I realize that I’m not exactly the perfect image of boyfriend material.”

“Hardly,” she snickered.

“I don’t know if this helps, but I could only have sex with those girls if I was plastered out of my mind. And most of those girls I brought home…. I never actually did anything with them,” he confessed. “I mean, we kissed, but that was the extent of it. I tried to stop what I was feeling for you and I thought that if I was with someone else, than those feelings would go away. But I could only think of you in the other room or out with some jackass that I wanted to murder because you were with him instead of me.” He dropped his gaze.

“Max, why didn’t you ever tell me how you felt?” she asked.

“For the same reasons you didn’t tell me,” he answered. “I was scared of rejection. And I couldn’t stand to lose you as a friend. Even if you and I never… if we never get involved, then I still need you as my best friend.”

Liz smiled. She felt the same way. Her friendship with Max was what she cherished most. It had become such a big part of her life that no matter what happened between them romantically, she still needed his friendship. What would she do without her best friend?

“Half the time I was bringing girls home to try and make you jealous,” he stated after a few minutes of silence. Liz’s jaw dropped at the new information and Max smiled softly. “I know, it’s childish and stupid, but I was desperate. I couldn’t stand to see you with those guys that got to be involved romantically with you when the one time we kissed…. we acted like it didn’t mean anything when it did.”

“Max, I only said it was a mistake because I didn’t want to get hurt,” she admitted. “If I had known that you felt the same…”

“I know. And I only agreed with you because I thought that was what you wanted,” he chuckled. “I guess this is all a big misunderstanding,” he chuckled.

“I know,” she giggled. Max pulled her close and she buried her hand in his thick hair as he shifted so that his forehead was pressed against hers.

“Liz, I know that I may not be the best boyfriend material, and Maria calls me a man-whore, but I’m not addicted to sex. I’d give that up to be with you in a heartbeat. You and what I feel for you scare the shit out of me. This is… its strong and different and... I can't even explain it right.”

Liz bit her lip as her heart flipped in her chest. Max really liked her as much as she liked him. She wondered where they would go from here. But she couldn’t help but think back to all those women Max had been with. How could she possibility compare to them?

“I don’t want to get hurt Max.”

“Me either.” He said it so softly she almost missed it. “Look Liz, I saw first hand how much Erick hurt you. I was there when you cried, when you vented. I know how it feels … That’s the last thing I would want to put you through.” He ran his fingers over her cheek. “I don’t want to pressure you. I just want you to know. I’m yours if you want me.”

Though still doubtful, Liz couldn’t hide her smile. Liz Parker and Max Evans, best friends and dating; it didn’t sound bad to her. Not bad at all.

She cuddled in his warm embrace, her body fitting perfectly against him, her head lying neatly under his chin. She snuggled in his warm embrace and soon she was drifting off into a contented sleep.

Chapter 15

“I thought you kids when out tonight.” Liz turned from the movie playing on the large TV to her mother standing beside the couch.

“You know I’m not a party person,” she said before lowering her gaze to the man peacefully sleeping in her lap. “And Max just decided to stay here with me.”

He had fallen asleep during the movie, exhausted from pestering her all day. He was now sprawled across her thighs on his stomach snoring softly, his breathing deep and even. She smiled at how cute he looked. His arm was thrown over the side of the couch, his finger tips just barely brushing against her ankle when she made the slightest move and it sent shivers through her body.

Nancy nodded, a knowing smile plastered on her face.

“Mom?”

“So, there’s nothing going on between you and Max huh?” she smiled as she settled across from her daughter.

Liz sighed. “Why is this all everyone can talk about?”

“Because, seeing you two... it’s just… I don’t know, you two are just perfect for each other.”

Liz blushed at her mother’s scrutinizing gaze. “Mom….”

“What? He’s gorgeous Lizzie and I’ve noticed that he stares at you all the time when you’re not looking.”

Liz perked up at this. “He does?” She never knew that. She found him looking at her with a strange look in his eyes sometimes, but she never thought much of it. She glanced down at his sleeping form, her hand moving to play with the hair at the nape of his neck.

“Yeah he does. And so do you.” Liz blushed, never realizing that she was that obvious. “All through dinner it seemed like you were the only thing that could hold his attention.”

“But Mom, he sleeps with all these women.” It seemed that that was her only excuse now. Though it was plausible, it was growing old.

“People can change Lizzie. I mean, he’s here with you instead of being at a party where I’m sure there’s a lot of girls he could’ve hooked up with,” she said. “Now I don’t want to see you heartbroken over anyone, but if you feel something for him and he feels something back, why not give it a try? A chance at true love is too great to pass up.” Liz nodded, letting her mother’s words sink in. “I’m not going to tell you what to do, but I want you to do whatever you feel is right in your heart okay?”

“Okay Mom.”

“You think you should get him up to bed?”

Liz tore her gaze away from Max as she rubbed his back. “After this movie Mom.” Nancy leaned in to kiss her daughter before turning in for the night.

Liz turned to Max, smiling at him. He was so adorable and he could be hers. He made her feel special and loved and he took care of her when she needed comfort and he could be hers. He’d said so himself, he’d be hers if she wanted him.

And she really wanted him. She realized that nothing was keeping her from being with him but her.

Her smile widened as she leaned forward and peppered his face with kisses. He sighed out her name, sifted and then nuzzled his nose against her stomach before he settled back into sleep.

The movie ended a few minutes later and Liz shut off the T.V. before waking Max. “Where are we going?” he mumbled as she led him through the living room and up the stairs.

“Putting you to bed,” she answered. She stopped at the top of the stairs, trying to figure out which way to turn to get to Max’s room. She always got lost at this point. She decided to turn right and found his room at the end of the hall.

Max headed straight to the bed as Liz moved to the dresser to grab her pajamas. “Your day of irritating me wore you out huh?” she teased when she came out of the bathroom.

“No, trying to stay as far as possible from your father is what did it. It seemed like everywhere I turned, he was standing there watching me. Waiting for me with his shotgun and shovel,” he answered with a shudder.

“Max, my Dad is just a big softy. He’s just trying to scare you,” she laughed.

“Well it’s working,” he grunted and then held out his hand to her. “Come here, I need some lovin’.” Liz meekly crawled into his waiting arms.

The few innocent kisses they shared turned passionate in no time and she gasped at the feeling of his hard arousal smothered against her center. As his tongue dueled with hers, her hands wondered to the hem of his t-shirt and pulled it over his head.

Finally, she was on top, running her tongue over the shell of his ear, his neck, his collarbone, his strong jaw line; his breathing was erratic and she was ecstatic that she was the one to make him feel like that.

“Liz,” he breathed as her hands ran over his chest, her palms stroking his nipples. She returned to his lips while his hand crept up the back of her shirt, while the other lay on her butt, crushing her core against him.

“Oh Max,” she moaned, feeling his hardness beneath his shorts. He watched her with dark eyes as she sat up, her hands moving to the edge of her shirt. She watched him as he eyes followed the bottom of her shirt, rising ever so slowly, revealing her creamy skin. She smirked as his breath accelerated and his eyes darkened even more. She was egging him on and she was pleased that she was getting to him.

“Liz,” he whimpered, his eyes still following her rising shirt. He let out a breath of air when she pulled the garment over her head and tossed it aside. His eyes darted from her naked chest to her eyes and back again.

“You...” He let his gaze collide with hers and he swallowed thickly while he sat up. “You… All this time that we’ve been sleeping in the same bed… you’ve never had on a bra ... and you wear my shirts?”

Liz ducked her head, feeling self-conscious sitting in his lap in only her panties. Maybe she wasn’t what he thought she was. What if he didn’t like what he saw? “I never sleep in my bra Max,” she admitted as she bit her lip.

“Shit,” he whispered as he stared at her breasts.

“Is that ‘shit’ a good thing or a bad thing?”

“This is bad!” he shrieked. Liz’s heart dropped. “I’m never going to be able to sleep next to you or wear those shirts again without getting a boner. How the hell did I not know about this?” Liz laughed in relief, leaning into his caress as he cupped her cheek.

“Shit Liz! You’re perfect. You’re so beautiful.” She smiled and let him take her in for a deep kiss. Liz pushed him back against the pillows and stretched over him. She slyly crept her hands down his body until she reached the top of his shorts. She slipped her hands in causing Max to suck in a deep breath.

“Liz, wait,” he said as he grabbed her hands.

“What?”

Max rolled them over so that she was facing him. “Liz I don’t think we should do this,” he said. “At least not right now,” he rushed to add when Liz’s face fell.

“Why? What’s the problem? I mean, you want to be with me, I want to be with you…”

“Yeah but… wait. You want to be with me? As in we’re together? Officially? A couple?”

She giggled and buried her fingers in his hair. She loved his hair. “Yeah. I mean, that is if you want to.”

“Oh of course! There’s nothing more that I could want,” he said, intertwining their fingers under the sheets. “But I think we should wait. I don’t want to rush this with you Liz. I want more with you.”

She smiled brightly. “Y-You do?” He nodded and pressed his forehead against hers. He smiled, but hers dropped as she punched his arm. “Why the hell did you wait until I was all hot and bothered to say something?! You could’ve told me that before I took off my fucking shirt Max,” she growled.

Max only smiled as she continued to throw her tiny fists at his chest. “You’re so hot when you’re pissed at me.”

Liz huffed in exasperation as she turned over. Max stretched out his arm for her to lie on and wrapped the other around her waist, his hand cupping her breast perfectly. She rolled her eyes but couldn’t help her smile. She repositioned his hand to rest over her stomach. “We’re waiting remember,” she said, a hint of mirth in her tone.

“Damn me and my big mouth,” he grumbled. Liz giggled and relaxed with her back against his chest.

“Sweet dreams girlfriend,” he said.

Liz smiled as she drifted off. “Sweet dreams boyfriend.”
********

Max kneeled down in front of Liz and she hoped onto his back as they walked under the grand arch; pass the Universal Globe as they exited Universal Studios. The group had decided to get away from the house since Nancy and Diane would put them to work with decorating the house for Christmas the next day.

Liz giggled in his ear and he sighed heavily. “Liz would you quit laughing already. It’s not funny anymore,” he moaned as she draped her arms around his neck.

“Um… yeah it is,” Isabel added. “I have never heard you scream that high before Max,” she laughed. Max glared at her, but it didn’t deter her. “You’ve been on that same ride millions of times.”

“She got you there little bro,” Kyle snickered. “The five year old girl next to me wasn’t screaming as much as you were.”

“Jaws was real! That fuckin’ shark never came that close before. It nearly tipped the boat!” he shrieked.

“You screamed more than Alex and he’s the wimpiest person I know,” Liz added.

“Hey! I’ll thank you not to use me as an example in this. I wasn’t the one withering in my seat like some people,” Alex said as he shot a look at Max.

“Ha, ha. Go ahead and laugh at my expense,” Max said. They did just that while they headed out of the park towards the car.

“Liz and I call back seat!” Max said.

“Why do you two get the back seat?” Maria challenged.

“Because I drove up here,” he said.

“No, you drove half way and then Kyle had to take over because you and Liz couldn’t keep your hands off each other and you nearly got us all killed,” Michael commented.

“Well then, that proves my point,” Max declared as he dangled the keys between his fingers. “I shouldn’t drive… unless you guys are willing to risk your lives…”

“Give me the damn keys,” Isabel said, snatching them from Max and taking on the role as mother hen as she had been doing, considering that she was the oldest out of all of them… except for Alex, but he couldn’t do anything more than shoot love struck looks at her. “Alex and I will sit up front, you three will share the middle,” she pointed to Michael, Maria and Kyle, “And Max and Liz will get the back. I don’t want to hear any moaning, see any clothes being shed, or find any naked body parts in the air when I look in the rear view mirror.” Liz slid off Max’s back and hid behind him, trying to hide her blush.

Isabel’s icy façade quickly melted and a pleasant smile adorned her face. “Shall we hit the road?” She whirled around leaving her long blonde hair to fly after her.

“She’s a little scary,” Michael mumbled quietly.

“I know,” Alex sighed. “Isn’t she the best?”

Max took Liz’s hand and climbed in the back of the SUV before helping her in. He leaned against the window and swung one leg across the back of the seat before pulling her back against his front.

Up in front, Isabel started the engine and headed towards the exit of the crowded parking lot. Liz sighed as she relaxed in Max’s embrace and prepared herself for the four hour drive back to Miami. The rest of the group’s conversation faded out and it was just her and Max.

It had only been a couple of days since they finally made it official that they were an item and Liz felt so comfortable in their relationship. She had waited so long and now she finally had him and she couldn’t be happier.

“You know Liz,” Max started as he planted a gentle kiss against her neck. “I didn’t appreciate you making fun on me when we got on Jaws. You’re supposed to be on my side. We’re a team.”

Liz giggled as his warm breath tickled her neck. “Payback’s a bitch right?” He pulled away, pouting. “Okay,” she laughed. “I’m sorry. What can I do to make it up to you?”

“I don’t know.”

She touched his lips with hers in a gentle kiss. When she pulled away, his eyes were closed. “Does that help?”

“Maybe.” He puckered his lips. Liz giggled and thoroughly kissed him. He wasn’t having it when she tried to pull away. He chased after her, stroking her bottom lip with his tongue, asking for permission to meet her tongue. They met, and she massaged his tongue the way she knew he liked it. She felt his hardness pressed against her and she reached between them to cup him over his jeans.

Proud of herself when he hissed, she squeezed him. He tore his lips from hers and let out moan. “I want you so fuckin bad Liz,” he growled.

“Isabel!” Kyle’s voice snapped Liz back to reality and she remembered she was in a car full of people. “Max and Liz are making out again and Max is talking dirty!”

Max glared at his brother when he turned to grin brightly at them. Max ducked in his seat as Isabel glared at him through the rear view mirror.

“Don’t make me pull over you two!” Isabel called.

“Tattletale,” Max snarled at Kyle.

“I’m not about to sit here and listen to you two go at it the whole ride home.” Kyle glanced at Liz, shooting her a sly grin before turning around in his seat.

“Maybe we should separate for awhile,” he suggested.

“Yeah.” Liz scooted a safe distance away from Max, hoping the space would help calm them both down. He reached across the space between them and clasped his hand with hers. He winked. She bit her bottom lip. He uncomfortably readjusted himself. She giggled at his expense.

The separation had failed. She was back in his arms seconds later. “You’re going to kill me,” he mumbled against her lips.

“How about I make your last hours very pleasurable then?” She felt him shiver with her touch when she ran her fingers beneath his shirt and over his chest.

“N-Normally, I would agree to that, but I don’t want Isabel on my ass.”

She laughed. “Later then?”

“Definitely.” He kissed the crown of her head as she cuddled into his warm embrace and waited until later.
********

Max had just entered his room when Liz awoke in his arms. He walked to the bed and gently laid her on top of the sheets.

He noticed she was awake and leaned up to kiss her gently. “Hey Doll.”

She rolled into his embrace. “Mm. You carried me all the way up here?”

“Yep,” he said proudly, as if she weighed more than what he could lift.

“You’re my big strong man,” she giggled as she ran her fingers over the muscles in his arm. He grinned frivolously.

She watched as he got up and stripped, leaving only his boxers on.

“Undress me?” she said. She was too tired to change into her pajamas.

Max raised his eyebrow in surprise. “That’s quite a bold request. Don’t you think?” he laughed.

“I’m too tired to move,” she moaned.

“Okay. But I you can’t hold me responsible if my hands just happen to slip somewhere they’re not supposed to be.” He grinned wickedly.

He removed her shoes and socks and then sucked in a deep breath as his hands moved to the zipper of her jeans.

He slipped them off, leaving her in her panties. Liz sat up when he moved to the dresser and pulled out a shirt for her to wear.

“Max! I am not wearing that!” she laughed when he pulled out the see through top he made her buy some weeks ago. “How’d that get here? I didn’t pack it.”

“I packed it for you. I thought I might be able to convince you to wear it.” He held it up in front of him, but then pouted when she shook her head and told him to put it back. He pulled one of his shirts out of the drawer and returned to her side.

She lifted her arms over her head and he pulled the shirt off. He groaned when he saw her bra covered breast and quickly moved to cover her. But she stopped him.

“I don’t need that. Just take off the bra please,” she said. His eyes widened even as his hands snaked around her to the clasp of he bra. The bra dropped and his lips hungrily met hers. His hands cupped her breast, massaging her nipples between his fingers.

“This better than seeing me in that see through thing?” she murmured against him.

“Fuck yeah!”

“Good.” She kissed him again before turning away and snuggling under the sheets. “Goodnight Max,” she said.

“What?”

“I said goodnight.”

“But we were…why’d you just stop?”

She smirked into her pillow. “We’re waiting remember? And if we continued than… well you know what would happen.”

“But Liz,” he whined. ”I’m all horny right now. You can’t just leave me like this.”

“You did the same thing to me.”

“But…”

“Sweet dreams Max,” she giggled. Pay back was definitely a bitch. She rolled over and he huffed as he climbed out of bed.

“Where’re you going?”

“Cold shower,” he grumbled. She laughed as she watched him run into the bathroom.

Chapter 16

“Did everyone get enough to eat?”

Moans and groans around the table filled the air at Diane’s question and she chuckled. It was Christmas night and they had just finished a huge dinner compliments of Diane and Nancy.

“Phillip, would you be a dear and clear the table and put the dishes in the dishwasher while everyone moves into the living room?” Diane asked.

Phillip opened his mouth to protest. “But…”

“Thanks so much,” she flashed her husband a sweet smile.

“Jeff, why don’t you help him?” Nancy said. “It won’t take as long with both of you working.”

“But Nan…”

“Oh you’re such a great husband,” she cooed as she kissed him on his cheek. Diane ushered everyone else out of the dining room, leaving Jeff and Phillip grumbling as they cleared the table.

Everyone dispersed into their rooms to change into their pajamas. For as long as Liz could remember, it was tradition for the Parker’s to watch Christmas movies every Christmas night and the Evans’ decided to adopt the tradition.

Liz loved how well their families were getting along. Diane and Phillip treated her and Alex as well as Maria and Michael as their own children. And even though Jeff was still going out of his way to terrify Max, Liz could tell that he and Nancy adored the Evans’.

Liz finished changing and emerged from the bathroom. The second she stepped into the room, she was in Max’s arms.

“Merry Christmas,” he mumbled against her lips. He left her trembling when he pulled away. “Wanna ditch everyone and go skinny dipping in the ocean?” he said with a mischievous smile.

“Yeah, and risk my father catching us.” She laughed when his smile dropped and he stepped away from her.

“You sure know how to kill the mood, don’t you?” he groaned.

She laughed as she pulled him close once more. “Max, its tradition. I can’t ditch them. Especially to go skinny dipping.”

He sighed heavily. “I know. But it was worth a shot though right?” Liz rolled her eyes.

“I’m headed downstairs.” She kissed him gently, slipping him a little tongue before pulling away.

“Tease,” he mumbled as she brushed pass him. She yelped when she felt a slap on her butt. “Damn that girl got all that fine ass,” he said.

“You’re such a perv.” He grinned and winked before disappearing into the bathroom.

Liz stepped into the hall and spotted Maria coming out of her room sporting boy shorts and a tank top. “Okay, so was it just me, or did I not see you opening any gifts from Max,” Maria said as they started down the stairs.

“You didn’t because we decided not to exchange gifts this year.”

“Why the hell did you do that?!” she shrieked, then quieted her voice when she realized that she was way too loud. “Damn Liz. If I were you I would have demanded something that cost no less than a Mercedes.”

Liz laughed at her friend. “You are out of control Maria.”

“I’m just saying, reap the benefits.”

“I don’t want anything but Max,” Liz protested.

Maria shook her head in shame. “You are such a goner.”

“Look who’s talking future Mrs. Michael Guerin,” Liz teased.

“What’s your point?”

“That we adore our men.” Liz smiled and Maria agreed as they entered the living room. Maria joined Michael on the recliner while Liz took a seat on the floor and leaned against the couch. Max appeared wearing sweatpants and t-shirt and settled between Liz’s legs, his head resting beneath her chin.

Once Phillip and Jeff joined them, Diane started “A Christmas Carol.”

Towards the end of the movie, as tradition, everyone was half asleep if not totally conked out. Max excused himself to use the bathroom and returned a few minutes later and pulled Liz to her feet.

“Max what…” He pressed his finger to his lips and as he lead her outside onto the patio. He took her to the changing stalls where he swim suit was already waiting for her.

“Max I told you I’m not about to go skinny dipping.”

He laughed. “We’re not. Just get changed Doll. Trust me.” He kissed her and at that moment she would’ve done anything that he’d asked her to.

She found him waiting with his swim trunks on and he took her hand and guided her to the hot tub. There were candles glowing everywhere and red and white rose peddles floating in the steaming water.

She giggled shyly when he handed her and single rose. “For you my lady.” He smiled brightly and guided into the water.

“You are too sweet,” she cooed as she watched him pour her a glass of champagne.

“I like to make my girl happy,” he said. “And I thought we could use some time alone.” She smiled and he raised his glass, she did the same. “A toast to us.”

“To us,” she repeated. She took a sip from her glass and relaxed against his chest. “This has been the best Christmas I’ve ever had.” She turned to him and found him smiling down at her. “And it’s all because of you.” She twisted in his arms and straddled him. She could tell he was already aroused and she trailed her fingers down his chest as she leaned in for the taste of him.

She felt his hand gripping her thigh as the other played lazily at the strings of her top.

“Who knew you could be such a romantic,” she giggled as he nipped at her neck.

“I thought I was a perv.” He trailed his finger over the swell of her breast. His eyes darken and she felt his arousal harden against her. She loved that she had this effect on him.

“You are. You can be both.” He smiled and she pressed his forehead against his. She closed her eyes and basked in his presence.

"I have something for you," he said. her eyes brightened at the thought of a surprise.

“Liz, I’ve never met anyone like you. I cherish our friendship and now this new relationship more than anything and I think it was fate that I saw you that day in front of that apartment building. You came and just turned my life upside down and I don’t think you know just how much you mean to me.” She felt tears flowing from her eyes at his words and he wiped them away and planted a soft kiss on her forehead. Content in his embrace, she laid her head against his shoulder.

“I’ve never felt this way before, so I want you to have this.” He reached behind him and showed her a velvet box. Liz sucked in a deep breath as she watched him flip it open.

Surrounded by a cloth of silk was an opened diamond heart locket sparkling before her eyes. A picture of a smiling Max and Liz looked back at her. “My grandmother gave it to me when I was younger.” Max took it out of the box and slipped it around her neck. “She made me promise that I’d give it to someone that meant a lot to me and that I cared deeply for. And that’s you Liz.”

Liz was speechless, sitting with a giddy grin on her face as tears ran down her cheeks. “Merry Christmas Liz.”

Her smile faded as she looked down at the locket nestled just above her breasts. “I didn’t get you anything Max. I thought…”

“It’s okay Liz. Just being with you is enough.”

Together, they blew out the candles and headed up to his room. Everyone else had either disappeared into their rooms or was still sleeping in the living room. Liz changed in the bathroom and when she emerged Max was lighting sweet scented candles around the room. He hadn’t seen her yet and she watched him move around the room as her hand closed around the locket hanging from her neck.

He was still in his swim trunks and Liz smiled brightly and realized that this is what she was missing when she was with Erick. This is what it felt like to be in love.

“Max?” Liz bit her lip as he turned to face her. She was wearing nothing but the see through top he had been desperately trying to get her to wear. A look of awe adorned his face and she knew that tonight, their relationship would change.

Liz crossed the room and flicked on the stereo and turned the volume down to a low hum.

See I've been watching you for a while your smile and stuff
and I don't know if I can be with you for tonight alright,
is that alright baby, baby

“You are so beautiful,” he murmured as he stepped towards her. She smiled and reached behind her. The lights went out and leaving the candle's dancing light to guide them.

There is only one for me
You have made that a possibility

Unable to stop herself, Liz let her lips drift up to Max’s, at first touching in a gentle brush, before turning into something more, something passionate as he slid his tongue against her lips.

She felt as if she were floating on air, landing on a soft cloud as Max laid her down on the bed. She stared up into his gorgeous face. His eyes were the same golden color as the candles’ flame and she knew that this was right. Reaching out, she touched his cheek gently with her fingers, before pulling him to her.

We could take that step to see, ohh
If this is really gonna be
All you gotta do is say yes

He removed her top slowly, cherishing every expanse of skin that was exposed before him. He was stripped afterwards and she took pleasure in the feeling of him lying bare against her.

His tongue stroked hers in an adoring caress that left her breathless when he pulled away to run his tongue down her neck and then all the way to the swell of her breast.

All you gotta do is say yes
Don't deny what you feel let me undress you baby
Open up your mind and just rest
I'm about to let you know you make me so

He tasted the skin of her breast before he moved his mouth to her nipple. He tugged and nipped gently, causing her to arch into him for more. He didn’t disappoint and he worked his magic until she quivered beneath him. His large hands took over for his mouth as he kissed his way passed her belly button.

All you gotta do is say yes

Max cupped her dark curls when he dipped his tongue into her belly button. “I’ve never done this before,” he admitted.

“S-seriously? Me either,” she stuttered as his finger brushed against her lower lips.

“Yeah. I always thought that I should be with someone special. Is this okay?”

“Oh…” she moaned as his finger continued to play lazily at her center.

Don't deny what you feel let me undress you baby
Open up your mind and just rest
I'm about to let you know you make me so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so,
You make me so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so

Liz practically rose off the bed with the new feeling. He took her to a new high and was her cushion when she came falling down.

Loving you has taken time, taken time
But I always knew you could be mine

He cherished every inch of her, treating her as if she was a precious delicate. She tasted herself on his lips and it roused her even further.

I recognize the butterflies inside me
Sex is gonna be made tonight, tonight

Liz wrapped her little fingers around his manhood and nervously dipped her head and was about to wrapped her lips around him when his hand cupping her cheek stopped her.

“You don’t have to if you don’t want to,” he said.

“I want to,” she smiled. Max nodded, and Liz closed her mouth around him. It took her awhile to adjust her mouth to his length, but when she felt comfortable she gave him pleasure like she had never given a man before. And she was full of pride when he hissed out her name when he came in pleasure.

All you gotta do is say yes

“Come here,” he growled once he caught his breath. Pinning her underneath him, he took her lips in a fierce kiss and positioned himself between her legs.

All you gotta do is say yes

“Are you sure?”

“Yes,” she whimpered.

Don't deny what you feel let me undress you baby
Open up your mind and just rest

Max reached over to the nightstand drawer and pulled out a condom. After sliding it on, he entered her slowly. Liz whimpered as his thickness filled her up.

I'm about to let you know you make me so

They moved together in a rhythm that was all there own. He loved her thoroughly until they climaxed and crashed back down to earth together. And then he loved her all over again.

Liz closed her eyes and let it wash over her.

Don't deny what you feel let me undress you baby

“I love you Liz,” he breathed against her as he peaked for the third time. She felt Max’s lips against her neck and his harsh breathing in her ear. Her teeth sunk into his shoulder to silence her screams as he brought her into bliss.

Open up your mind and just rest

He threw away the condom in the trash can beside the bed before taking her in his arms. Their bodies cooled in the light breeze from the open window. As soon as she rolled over to face him, he captured her lips against his. He pulled away with a sleepy smile.

“Night Doll,” he whispered as his eyes drifted shut.

I'm about to let you know you make me so, so, so, so, so, so,
so, so,

Liz soon followed him in slumber, but not before whispering the words that she’d been afraid to say but realized she always felt.

You make me so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so
You make me so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so
You make me so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so

“I love you too Max.”

Hey everyone. So there's probably going to be only one more part after this one. :( So I hope you enjoy and thanks for the fb!

Chapter 17

Waking up naked in Max’s embrace was a new experience for Liz. One that she would like to experience over and over again.

She felt him nibbling on her neck and she twisted in his arms to face him.

“Good morning Doll,” he said with a vivid smile.

“Good doesn’t even begin to describe it,” she purred as she wrapped her arms around his neck. “Max, last night was…”

“Amazing?” She nodded and he smiled. “I know.”

Liz let her fingers trail the necklace he’d given her last night. “So can I safely guess that this is the reason you were sneaking out early in the morning?”

He grinned sheepishly. “Yeah. I wanted it to be a surprise and get it engraved. You can be so nosy sometimes…”

“Hey! This is supposed to be a romantic moment,” she pouted.

“Sorry,” he chuckled. “I was so nervous that you wouldn’t like it, I never showed you the inscription.”

“Read the back.”

The bond of best friends. The love of soulmates. M/L Forever

“Oh Max.” She cried over the simple words that spoke so much. It said it all. They were best friends, soulmates. She felt it and she couldn’t be happier. “Max, I love it. I’ll keep it on always,” she assured him.

He smiled. She had never seen him smile so brightly before. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” she whispered.

He kissed her sweetly and she bit her lip with the excited feeling she got just from hearing him say that. “I didn’t think you heard me last night. I didn’t want you to think I didn’t love you back.”

“I heard you. I thought it was a dream. Everything about last night…”

“I know,” she giggled, knowing exactly how he felt. Max laughed as he laid his forehead against hers. “Six months ago, did you ever think that we’d end up here?”

“You mean in bed together, naked?” He grinned widely and Liz laughed.

“We’ve come a long way,” she said. “When we first met, I thought you were the sweetest guy.”

“Thought? What, you think I’m an ass now?”

“Yes.” She giggled at his shocked look. “I’m just kidding. I mean, yeah sometimes you can be an ass. Like when you downloaded that porn on my computer.”

“Liz!” he whined. “I said I was sorry. How long are you going to hang that over my head?”

“Until that image is erased from my mind completely," she retorted. "Max that was disgusting! How could you be attracted to that?”

He groaned. “It’s not like I got off on it…. I mean I did but…”

“Ewww.”

“Only cause I was thinking of you.”

She frowned. “Thanks. I think.”

“No. I mean I was just curious and you were just a few feet away, prancing around the apartment in those tight little booty shorts that you like to wear and think are so innocently cute when they are nothing but a heart attack waiting to happen for me and many other men just like me, waiting for their women to bend over so they can see something.”

Liz laughed. “Are you done complaining?”

“No.” he sulked. “I was horny and I couldn’t help myself. Yet you continued to walk around in bras and underwear…”

She slapped his arm. “I never walked around in my bra and underwear.”

“No, but I fantasized about you doing that and I consider that the same thing.”

“So, are you saying it’s my fault that you downloaded porn?” she giggled.

“Yes,” he countered. “And I’d also like to address the issue that I have no more shirts to wear because they have been stolen.” He looked at her pointedly and she gasped dramatically.

“Are you accusing me?”

“Yes. Now this situation could be solved if you just sleep naked every night instead of in my shirts.”

Liz rolled her eyes. “See, this is exactly why you’re an ass.”

“But I’m a cute ass and you love me.”

She kissed his pouting lips. “Valid point.”

He sighed and they laid in silence, basking in the other’s presence.

“You know, I wore that see through top last night and you didn’t even say how I looked in it,” she teased.

“I was too focused on getting it off you,” he growled. His eyes darkened and Liz bit her lip in anticipation. She had seen that look last night and it sent shivers up her spine. “That’s the whole point of the thing right? As sexy as you looked in it, in all my fantasies you were naked.”

“Fantasies huh?” She trailed her finger down his chest. She smiled when she felt his erection against her thigh. “You know what we should do about that?” He hissed as she ran her finger over his length. “We should get dressed and go downstairs and see what everyone else is doing.” She jumped out of bed before he could say anything else.

“Shit,” he growled. She giggled when he jumped out of bed and chased her around the room. She let him catch her and carry her to the bed. “Who knew you could be such a tease Parker.”

She gasped when she felt the tip of his member against her center. He pressed himself just at her opening, smirking devilishly at her as she grabbed his butt and tried to push him inside her.

“Max, stop teasing me,” she moaned. She suddenly realized exactly why payback was a bitch. She jerked her hips up, but he dodged her and instead attached his lips to her neck. “Max, skip the damn foreplay. I want you now,” she growled.

He smirked. “Slow down baby. You’re all mine now, we have all the time in the world.” His lips descended on hers and soon he was feasting on her breast. She arched off the mattress as his tongue swirled around her nipple before taking it between his teeth.

“Oh Max,” she groaned as his hand moved down to her dark curls. He slid a finger inside her and then added another, driving her crazy until she withered beneath him with her climax.

“You’re so beautiful when you come apart in my arms,” he murmured against her lips.

She didn’t have time to blush at his comment. He was thrusting his tongue against hers and she was fully enjoying the taste of him.

He reached for a condom. “Remind me to make a doctor’s appointment for birth control. Condoms take too damn long,” she moaned.

“A little impatient are we?” She jerked her hips against his. She smiled when he hissed pleasure.

He slid the condom on and positioned himself over her. “I love you,” he whispered.

“I love you too,” she returned as his buried himself inside her. They gasped simultaneously as he began to move inside her.

Moving with a steady rhythm, Max laced his fingers with hers and let her push him back until she was on top.

Their pace quickened as she got closer to her peak. Max grunted beneath her, whispering his love for her and she knew he was close. She was right with him.

“Hold on to me baby,” he moaned. “Come with me.”

Liz crashed her hips against his, his length stretching her to her limit. She moaned at the feeling and pulled back only to slam into him again.

She faintly heard the headboard banging against the wall and the creaking of the bed as they picked up the pace. She was close. So close. But they suddenly stilled as a knock at the door penetrated through their sexual fog.

Liz scrambled and hid under the sheets while Max growled. “What?!” he barked at the door.

Liz heard the door opening, but she was afraid to find out who it was. “Did I wake you Max.” Liz cursed when she realized it was her father.

“Um…y-yeah.” Liz choked back a giggle as Max’s voice cracked. She could only imagine what his face looked like right now. She smirked mischievously as she maneuvered her hand over his chest.

“Sorry about that.” Jeff said. Liz blew a little air over his nipple and choked back a laugh when he shivered. “You okay Max?”

She ran her tongue over his taunt nipple before she sucked it into her mouth. She heard him moan.

“I-I’m fine,” he croaked.

Liz smiled. She nipped at him gently, ignited another moan from him.

“Are you sure you’re okay Max?”

“Y-Yeah. I’m j-just not feeling very well.”

Liz grinned beneath the sheets.

“Oh. Do you know where Liz headed off too?” Jeff asked.

“Um… Liz?” Max stuttered.

“Yeah. You know. My daughter. Short woman, brown hair, big brown eyes.”

“Liz is in the shower.” Max answered quickly.

Liz winced at the bad lie. Her father wasn't stupid. They were caught. “Oh. You know, I don’t hear the water running.”

“Oh… um… then maybe she’s downstairs. I-I just woke up so…”

“Right. Well if you see her tell her to come join us out on the water. We’re going jet skiing.”

“Will do Jeff.”

“Oh and Max, if you’re feeling better, you should join us.” Liz heard her father's laughter fading away as he stepped into the hall.

Max sighed above her when she heard the door closing. “You know he knew I was under here right?” Liz laughed.

“God Liz! If you don’t kill me, your father will." He looked so pitiful, but Liz couldn't help but laugh at him.

"How the hell am I supposed to stay sane with you running around here looking all sexy and then your father is threatening to kill me if I touch you?” he whined.

“Max, my dad is harmless. He’s just playing with you.”

“Some game he’s playing,” he mumbled.

Liz smirked. “How about we get in the shower and I make it all better for you?”

His eyes darkened at that suggestion. A growl hummed deep in his throat as he swept her into his arms and purposely strode into the bathroom.

This is it, the last part. I hope you enjoy.

Chapter 18

Two Months Later

Liz peeked over the top of her laptop when Max entered the room. He had that certain smirk on his face that made her want to jump him. But she had to control herself this time; she had to finish her paper.

“Hey Doll. How’s it coming?” He flopped on his stomach beside her and leaned up to kiss her lips.

“It’s coming slowly, but its coming.”

“Why don’t you take a short break then? I want to smooch on you for awhile.” He was already pushing her laptop aside before she could answer.

“Max you and I both know that a little "smoochin’" as you call it will turn into something more and then I’ll never finish my paper.”

“Come on Doll,” he urged her as he pulled her down beside him. “Just for a little while.” He started kissing her neck and she knew she wouldn’t be able to say no now.

“Just…” He kissed the space behind her ear, making her shiver. “Let me save what I have so far.”

“Liz, I don’t think your name and two sentences are worth saving,” he teased.

She glared at him and sat up. “Okay, smooching time is over. I need to finish this.” Max pouted beside her as she leaned back against the headboard and replaced the laptop in her lap.

Max sighed in defeat and sat next to her. “Fine, why don’t I help you then?”

Liz immediately shook her head. “Last time we did that, somehow you ended up ‘helping’ me into the shower and then three times in bed and I don’t think that's a good way to get a paper written.” She giggled as he pouted. His plan had been foiled.

“Well, what if I…”

“What if you just quit trying to bribe me and let me finish this? The sooner I’m done, the sooner we can play.” His eyes darkened at her choice of words and she knew she just made the situation worse. “Look shouldn’t you be resting anyway? Don’t you have a longer shift tonight?”

“I’m too horny to sleep,” he whined. “I’m sexually frustrated…. hungry for sex…… impassioned for your love.” Liz simply ignored him and continued typing her paper. “A nice girlfriend would satisfy her boyfriend’s needs.”

Liz laughed at his attempt. “So now you’re trying to guilt me into sex now?”

“Yes. I’m desperate. Is it working?”

“Nope. Sorry.” He pouted and she brushed her lips against his. He tried to deepen the kiss, but Liz cut him off before he could. “Don’t you have a paper to write?”

“I finished it already.” He looked so pitiful but Liz was forced to hold in her laughter. He slid under the sheets and pressed his face into the pillow as he watched her work.

“You know, I could just seduce you with my charm and then have my way with you,” he said after a few minutes of silence. He rested his hand on her thigh beneath the sheets. It was hard for her not to give in to him.

“I’m sure you could,” she said passively as she continued to type.

He sighed. “You’re an evil woman Doll.”

“I love you too Max.”

He chuckled. “I love you.”

He fell asleep minutes later, mumbling at how horny he was in his sleep.

“What am I going to do with you baby,” she giggled. She removed his distracting hand from her thigh and continued to work on her paper.
********

Four hours and ten games of FreeCell later, Liz typed the last word on her paper. She saved it and begun to go over it.

Max sighed in his sleep as he rolled over and pressed his face against her hip, his hand landing on her thigh. Thankfully, he had slept the entire time she was working, which left her in peace.

His fingers fluttered against her skin before his hand crept up her thigh. His eyes were still closed, his features still peaceful, but his hand was wrecking havoc on her as it moved to the button of her shorts.

Liz pushed her laptop aside as he skillfully undid the button and worked his hand into her panties. She arched off the bed when he slipped a finger inside her.

“I hope you’re finished, cause I’m not about to stop,” he said.

Max moved his finger inside her slick walls while he used his free hand to push her shorts down her legs. Liz laid her head back against the headboard as he added another finger, and then his head disappeared beneath the sheets.

“Max,” she moaned when she felt his tongue against her sensitive skin.

She shuddered with her climax and Max drunk her juices like a starving man. He kissed his way up to her bellybutton and dipped his tongue inside as he lifted her shirt. He tossed it aside while he attached his lips to hers, sweeping his tongue across her lip. Liz granted him entrance and he worked on getting rid of her bra while she lifted his shirt over his head.

Soon, his jeans were gone and they were tangled in a passionate embrace.

“I love you,” he said as he positioned himself over her. He buried himself deep and moved with long, smooth strides. She thanked God for birth control.

She moaned beneath him helpless under his power. And he took her into bliss over and over again.
**********

“You seem happy.”

Liz smiled into her coffee mug as Maria shot her a knowing look. “So I’m guessing that things are going well for you and the love machine upstairs.”

“Yes. Everything’s fine,” she giggled. Michael and Maria had just gotten back from their honeymoon and Maria had decided that she needed a little girl time while Michael went out with Max.

“So how was Mexico?”

“Oh it was beautiful Lizzie. No below zero weather, no snow, no freezing to death even though the heat is on…”

“Okay,” Liz laughed. “I get it. It was warm there. So when are there gonna be some little Guerins running around.”

Maria smiled. “In about eight months.”

Liz had to force her coffee down her throat in order to keep from spitting it out in shock. “You’re serious?”

Maria nodded eagerly and Liz pulled her friend into a hug. “When did you find out? Does Michael know yet?”

“I went to the doctor just before the wedding but with everything going on, I never got the chance to go back and get the results. I went today and found out I’m five weeks along.”

“I’m so happy for you. Michael is going to die!”

“He’d better not. He helped make this baby, he’s gonna be around to raise it. I’m not going to be the one waking up at three in the morning.”

Liz smiled. Even though Maria was complaining, Liz could tell that she was completely ecstatic.

“Anyway, so this is why I wanted to have a little girl time. I don’t know how to tell him. Should I take him out or stay in?”

“Stay in. You know, do the candle lit dinner and….” She was interrupted when Michael entered the apartment.

“Hey girls,” he said as he came into the kitchen. He leaned down to kiss Maria.

“You went grocery shopping?” Maria pointed to the brown bags in his hands.

“Yup.” He set the bags on the counter and pulled out a few cases of beer and some boxes of donuts.

“You went shopping and that’s all you bought?”

“Yup.”

Liz excused herself and left the apartment before she got caught up in the impending argument between them.

“Liz, come in here!” Max called when she entered their apartment. Max was stirring something in a pot over the stove and she cautiously stepped into the kitchen.

“Taste this,” he told her as he held up a wooden spoon. Max still hadn't learned how to cook and Liz realized early on that whenever he was working in the kitchen, it was best to stay away.

She took a step backwards. “What is that?”

Max held his hand under the spoon to kept it from spilling on the floor. “Spaghetti sauce. Taste it.”

“What's wrong with it? Isn’t it supposed to be sorta reddish color...”

“Liz, just taste it. It’s good.” Max sighed and stepped towards her.

“No thanks Max. I’m not hungry.”

“What? You don’t have any faith in my cooking?”

“No.” He growled at her and Liz took off running when he charged forward.

“Max!” she screamed. “Leave me alone. I don’t want that poison!” She scurried around the couch, laughing as he tried to catch her and keep from spilling the sauce at the same time.

Finally, he returned the spoon to the pot and ran after her. “Go away!” she screamed as he gained on her. She flung a throw pillow at him, hoping to slow him down.

But she tripped and stumbled, but Max caught her and tossed her over his shoulder before she could fall to the floor.

“Max,” she laughed. “Please don’t make me eat that!”

He carried her into the kitchen and deposited her on top of the counter, her hand landing in a bowl full of the sauce.

Max grabbed the spoon and held it up for her to taste. “Eat it,” he commanded.

“Wait! Wait,” she said before he could shove it into her mouth. “Just let me say one more thing.”

“What?”

Liz took her hand out of the bowl and slapped a hand full of the sauce over Max’s face. While he sputtered in shock, she took the chance to hop off the counter. She dashed into the living room, but Max caught her and tossed her onto the couch.

She laughed when she saw the small handprint of brown sauce on his face. “You have a little bit of the sauce on your face…” He tickled her sides and she wiggled beneath him.

“You’re not funny.”

Liz contained her laughter and tried to look serious. “I’m sorry.”

He rolled his eyes as he chuckled. “No you’re not.”

“No. I’m not,” she giggled.

“I love you, you silly woman.”

She laughed. “I love you too.” She tasted the sauce when he brushed his lips against her. “Oh. That is good.”

“I told you.” He chuckled when she licked the rest of it off his face.

“When did you learn how to cook spaghetti sauce?”

He wiggled his eyebrows mischievously. “I have my ways.” Much to Liz’s protest, he got off her and pulled her to her feet. “Get cleaned up and I’ll finish dinner.”

Liz headed off into the bathroom and then changed. When she came into the kitchen, Max was lighting a candle in the middle of the table.

He smiled when he saw her and handed her a single white rose. “Awww. Max, this is really sweet. Thank you.”

“What’s the occasion?”

“Just that I love you and I’m glad you were able to tame me because I’m sure as hell a lot happier than I was before we got together.”

Liz smiled. “I’m happy too Max.”

He grinned and kissed her lips. “And the sex is out of this world. I’m talking explosive...”

“Max,” she sighed.

“You get my point.” He laughed as he pulled out her chair and served her chicken and marconi and cheese, his “specialty”, and the spaghetti which was pronounced another one of his specialties that night.

After dinner, he treated her to a movie, which neither of them watched because they were too wrapped up in each other.

“Sixteen bucks for tickets gone right done the drain,” he had teased.

“My parents are flying out to Roswell to visits yours.” Max said as he climbed into bed.

“Really? They’ve become inseparable,” Liz said as she searched her drawer for one of Max’s shirts.

“I know.”

“Oh! I forgot to tell you that Maria’s pregnant,”

“Seriously! Michael doesn’t know does he? He didn’t mention it.”

“She’s telling him tonight.” She crawled into his arms where she was safe and warm. “She’s making him dinner.”

“Michael will flip his lid. I’m happy for them. They’re great together.”

We’re great together,” Liz added.

“We are. We’re amazing together,” he said. “Not to mention the explosive sex!”

“Max!” She laughed. “Do you always have to go back to sex?”

“Sorry. I just can’t get enough of you.” He pulled her in for a soft kiss and then pressed his forehead against hers.

“I can’t wait until we’re the ones that everyone’s talking about.”

“Why do we have to wait?”

Thinking he was joking, Liz laughed. “What?”

“Why should we wait to be happy together? To be husband and wife. You already nag me like a wife does.”

Liz was about to slap his arm for saying such a thing, but stopped when he seemed to produce a diamond ring out of nowhere.

“Oh my God.”

“Will you make me the happiest man alive and be my wife.” Liz was speechless. Tears filled her eyes and trailed down her cheeks. “What do you say Liz?”

“Yes.”

Max’s grin was a mile long as he slipped the ring on her finger. “I love you,” she whispered.

“I love you too.” He sealed it with a kiss.

"How about that explosive sex now?” she said.

He rolled over her as she wrapped her arms around his neck. “You know I’m game.”
