Morpheus awakened, I was kinda thinking they might have planned the trip during the time we 'skipped,' but maybe it wasn't all that firm...
*Michael*
I shrug at Kyle's suggest. "Sure. Whatever," I tell him. It's all good by me. Maybe I can get one of Liz's friends to go out with me if they're staying for the weekend... Unless, of course, Maria actually shows some interest.
*Max*
"Sure," I say to Tess, turning away from Kels. "We were talking about different places in Florida that it would be great to go see while we're here and we decided that Key West might be a good place to start," I frown a little as she still looks a little bewildered.
"I thought tomorrow, being Saturday, would be a good day for it. I guess I wasn't that clear about it. Sorry about that. We don't have to go if you'd rather do something-else," I say. "Would you rather stay with the group?"

So... skipping to the end of the meal, assuming that there was eating during the earlier conversation and that Liz eventually drank something. Haven't seen Sugarplum around...
Let me know if this is okay. If you want to wait, I can edit.

"I could do with some desert, too," Michael says before turning to Maria. "You want something?"
"We already have that sorted," I say, wondering how he could have forgotten. Even as I speak, the waiters return. One has a cart with tea and coffee while the other is pushing a desert tray bearing a huge birthday cake. On top are twenty-one candles, already lit.
Liz's family and friends are all grabbing for cameras. I can't help but think that's a little funny, concidering that this is being filmed by two different TV cameras and they can get it all on tape later. Of course, there is something to be said for having a image you can hold or put on your computer, too.
"Wow!" I hear Kels say at my elbow.
"You like it?" I ask. "I picked it out based on what you told me about Liz's favorite flavors. I hope she likes it."
Kels glances over at Liz who's completely dumbfounded. "I think she loves it," she says.
The waiter moves the cake over to Liz and suggests. "It is time for the singing, yes?" The woman with the cart hums a note and then everyone begins to sing...

No worries, Isabelle, I just wasn't sure if it was something Tess missed or that I missed, so I decided to make it her. But Max explained it, so it's all good. And I'll just add here since we already moved on to the end of dinner that Tess is fine with going on the trip with Max. She rationalizes that it will help her to stop thinking about Kyle when she should be thinking about Max.

"Whoa, dude, look at the size of that cake!" I utter as this huge birthday cake is rolled in on a cart. "All those candles are going to make it melt hehe."
"Yeah, you're telling me. I don't think I want wax with my cake, thankyouverymuch." Kyle chimes in from behind me. I nod in ascension.
Liz looks like she doesn't know what to do, or say, so she's just sitting there with this grin plastered on her face.
Then one of the waitresses starts us off to the tune for the happy birthday song, and we all join in.
*...Happy Birthday to you!*
"Okay Liz, you have to blow them all out in one breath or your wish won't come true." Alex says with a smile.

After talking to Isabelle, I decided to do a few (very) short Kels parts - hope no one minds
KELS
I grin when I see the huge cake that is brought to our table. It certainly looks delicious and I guess it's okay to ignore the many calories it must have. Glancing at Max out of the corner of my eye, I almost sigh. It's obvious that Max likes Liz and Liz likes Max and ... that Alex dude will never get them together and Liz is too much of a good girl to try and get between Max and the Tess chick, so I guess, it's up to me to get them together!
The only problem is that I only am here tonight and I certainly can't just say *she likes you*. Liz would hit me if I did that. Hm, have to try with some subtle hints then, I guess.
"You arranged this evening, didn't you?" I quietly ask Max.
"Well, everyone helped and ..."
"But you started the planning and all!" I interrupt him firmly and then give him an apologetic smile because of my rudeness. "Sorry. I was only trying to say that since you planned all this, there is no way that Liz doesn't like it."
That should get him thinking. ... I hope.
KYLE
I can feel my mouth watering just looking at this ... mountain of a cake. There will certainly be two pieces for everyone. I guess I might even get three pieces since the girls surely don't want too eat too much of this fattening thing. Have to be careful of Michael and Alex though - they certainly look as if they can wolf down a few pieces too.
"You know," I tell Tess, "since you probably won't be able to eat two pieces, you could give me your second piece so I can eat it!"

I look at Kels, not sure exactly what she's trying to say to me. What does it matter who planned it? If I'd planned something terrible, she wouldn't love it, I'm sure. And we were all part of it.
Maybe she just means that Liz would appreciate that her housemates went to the effort to try, even if it didn't come out right. I certainly hope that's true. I've been on pins and needles for fear that she'd be angry that we did all this when she'd told us she didn't need a party. Sure, nobody needs a party, but it's a nice thing to have. Especially for a milestone birthday. I remember one of my friends back at Roswell who had been fairly heartbroken when she didn't have a big party for her sweet-sixteenth birthday.
Looking over at Liz, I see her blowing out her candles like a professional. Kels and I join in the aplause as she mocks a bow at all of us. "It looks like she's having a good time," I comment to Kels. "That's the important thing. She's a really special girl. She deserves to be treated like a princess."
One of the waiters pulls the cake away so he can slice it, while the waitress comes around providing coffee or tea to everyone who wants some.
"I'll - uh, I'll take another beer," Michael says when she gets to him. I can't help but roll my eyes.
"Time for presents," Liz's dad announces. Her mom goes to a side table and delivers a present wrapped in bright red paper with a gold bow. "You're mom and I get to go first, 'cause we've known you the longest," he says with a wink. "Your daddy picked this out himself," her mom adds. Both of them looking at her with shining eyes.

I should have known that Max would do the nice thing and say that everyone helped and bla bla bla
"That's the important thing. She's a really special girl. She deserves to be treated like a princess."
"So true." I promptly agree. "I hope you continue to treat her like one. I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you do that. It's always nice to be well treated by people you really like."
Maybe he'll get it now.

"You know," Kyle tells me, "since you probably won't be able to eat two pieces, you could give me your second piece so I can eat it!"
"In your dreams, Valenti!" I counter back, just to see his face lose its teasing glint as he considers whether or not he's actually going to get my second piece of cake. Luckily for him though, he's right, and I can't eat two whole slices of cake. I can barely eat one because this kind of cake, that while is so beautiful when layered and piled high like this, is made with airy, light frosting inside and out, and I have never been able to eat that much sugar in one sitting. I'd fly off the handle on a sugar buzz that big.
I wait a few more seconds before I reinflate his hopes. "Just kidding, of course you can have my second piece. And you, lucky person that you are, can even have the extra frosting that they put around the edge of each piece because that's too much sugar for me, and I can't eat very much anyway."
Kyle's face lights right back up and he replies, "Right on. I will gladly help you get rid of any extra frosting you don't want. So, what kind of cake do you like then?"
"Ice cream cake is the perfect birthday cake, at least it is in my family. My dad and I celebrate our birthdays about two weeks apart so around that time of year we're well stocked with ice cream cake." I say with a smile.

"Cool. I have to make sure to visit you around your birthday then." I grin. When there's much cake at the Harding house, then I should enjoy it there!
I guess I should talk with Isabel too since she's my date tomorrow but I just enjoy the banter with Tess too much and Isabel seems to have an interesting discussion with Alex anyway so I shouldn't interrupt them, I guess.
"So far, we got along pretty well but who do you think will have the first fights in here?" I ask Tess.

OOC -- Borrowing Maria 'cause she's disappeared for AGES.
*Michael*
I can't believe everyone talking about the cake. Why don't they just eat it, for Pete's sake? That's what I'm doing. It's cake. That's what ya do.
The waitress offers coffee, but I opt for more beer instead. It doesn't seem to bother her, but I see Maria rolling her eyes. I talked to Liz about this on Tuesday, but I still don't have a clear idea if Maria conciders herself my girl-friend or not. I keep wanting to ask Liz again but I can't seem to get a private moment with her.
Still, since Maria's not talking, I manage to overhear some of Alex's conversation with Isabel, seeing as she's right next to me. "So far, we got along pretty well but who do you think will have the first fights in here?" Alex asks.
I have to snort when I hear that. "Do you got amnesia or somet'in Whitman? You had the first fight with Max. Great swing ya got on ya," I tell him. He should have done more than that, but I don't say that out loud.
*Max*
I watch as Liz opens the presents from her parents. She looks so happy. There's a sparkle in her eyes that makes me want to dive in and live there. I would so much love to be the one who makes her smile like that. Tess has a great smile, too. She's beautiful, there's no denying that. But there's just something about Liz ... I tell myself that it's probably just that she seems more desirable because she doesn't want me, but then, I liked her from the first time I saw her, before she even spoke to me...
"... I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you do that. It's always nice to be well treated by people you really like." Kels says.
I nod, almost automatically. "She's a really great girl," I say and then stop myself just before I start to say that everyone in the house thinks she's great. I turn to look at Kels, wondering again what it would be like if Liz really liked me, but I know that Liz is such a friendly and wonderful person, she seems to like everyone. It seems rediculous, but suddenly think I'll need to talk to Kels some more later, when Tess isn't at my elbow. "I hope she finds someone who knows that."
