Thanks everyone for sticking with me and for the great feedback!! Hello to all the lurkers out there :D

Chapter 20

On the last night of finals, the Winter Carnival opened, giving all the students a place to have fun and blow off steam from the week of cramming and test taking. Food carts were scattered all over the grounds, serving anything from popcorn and big pretzels to hot dogs and pizza slices. There were sports and arcade games, a Ferris Wheel and a dozen or so more booths set up by various sororities, frats and school clubs.

Amongst all the activities stood a tall, white booth that had lines longer than any other. So far the Deltas and Sigmas had been a hit and as the hour neared its end, Tess and Kyle sat on two stools, joking around as they waited for their shift to begin.

After discussing it, Kyle agreed it was only fair that Tess sign up to work in the booth too. Thanks to Serena, the two were scheduled to work the same shift which, ironically, made each of them feel better about the whole thing. “So what do you feel like doing afterwards?” Kyle queried after nodding to some guys on the team.

“We could take a ride on the Ferris Wheel and hope it gets stuck” Tess suggested with an impish grin. While she wished they could leave and go back to her room, she had to stop by the Science Club booth and help out there for a while before she was allowed to leave.

“I wish Liz could have switched shifts with you” Kyle murmured and pulled her close.

“She would’ve but she had already been assigned here” Tess shrugged and leaned in even closer. Just as their lips were about to meet, they heard yelling coming from a voice that sounded suspiciously like Maria.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she demanded just as Kyle and Tess made it around to the front of the booth. The sight that met them was an angry Maria, an indifferent Michael and an entirely too smug Courtney. “I can’t believe that after everything she tried to do to me that you’re gonna kiss her” she yelled, causing Tess to react fast, hoping to prevent a full blown fight, complete with a cheering crowd.

“What does it matter to you” Michael asked back. “You’re the one that kissed more than a dozen guys earlier, including that asshole who’s always trying to get your attention” he reminded, referring to Billy Darden, the music guy who had an obvious crush on Maria.

“Urg! I don’t even know why I thought you…” she trailed off as Serena arrived and tried to usher them away from the customers.

“I don’t know what the hell just happened and I don’t want to know either” Serena stated harshly. “Now you two either work this out quietly or go your separate ways but keep your arguments away from the booth, got it” she added, then quickly walked off.

“Don’t you think you were a bit hard on them?” Tess wondered once they were all out of hearing distance.

“Probably” Serena replied, suddenly cheerful again. “But maybe now they’ll finally go somewhere and admit they’re in love before they drive all of us as crazy as they are.”

“I just… I can’t believe that after she’s tried everything under the sun to get you, after she nearly had me arrested, that you would buy a ticket to get kissed by her” Maria fumed the moment the door closed behind them. The storage shed they stood in was dark and cold but neither paid any attention to that, choosing to focus solely on the argument at hand, each thinking that they were right while the other was at fault.

“Tough” Michael stated and watched as Maria’s eyes flashed dangerously. “If you want someone to blame, look in the mirror doll because this one’s all on you.”

“Me… how the hell are you gonna pin all of this on me?” she questioned, outraged by his affirmation.

“When you told me that Courtney had a thing for me, what did I do? I told you that she didn’t matter to me and I turned her down every time she asked or tried something” Michael answered. “What did you do when I got upset over this kissing booth thing? You did it anyway, that’s why I can pin this all on you” he declared angrily.

Maria opened her mouth to retort but found that she had nothing to say. Michael was right, she knew he was but what she didn’t know was how to explain it all to him without still sounding like a jerk in the end.

“Okay” Maria said quietly and it was enough to stun Michael silent. He looked down at her and the expression she wore nearly broke his heart. He hadn’t meant to hurt her, he just needed her too see how much she had hurt him.

Putting everything aside for a moment, Michael tugged at her hand and pulled her to his body. “Can you at least tell me why?” he asked and she didn’t have to ask what he meant.

“I guess that… well I guess that I wanted you to be upset” Maria confessed and felt Michael’s heartbeat speed up below her ear. “It wasn’t like a test or anything, I just wanted to know that I was important to you… that you would feel something if we ever… never mind” she said, shaking head and pulled away from his warm embrace. “The whole thing was stupid, I’m sorry” she apologized and turned her back to him, unable to look him in the eye and see disappointment directed at her.

“What is the matter with you?” he questioned, startling her. She had expected a wide range of scenarios, even a raised voice, but that particular question hadn’t been on her list.

“What are you talking about?” Maria asked back, surprised.

“I’m talking about this lack of self confidence you have” Michael replied, frustrated but also curious. “You’re beautiful and talented and… and you have absolutely no reason to be this unsure about yourself” he stated, further shocking Maria. “Especially with me” he added, almost to himself.

“Why with you?” she wondered.

“Because I’m in…” he trailed off, suddenly not so sure of himself.

“In what?” Maria encouraged though she didn’t allow her hopes to rise… not yet at least.

With confident, purposeful steps, Michael strode forward until he was only inches from Maria. In a gesture straight out of any romantic novel, he cupped her face, gently pushing her hair aside and leaned forward until their lips were a breath away. “In love you” he whispered and captured her lips before she could respond.

Maria wound her arms tightly around Michael, holding him close and returned the kiss wholeheartedly. She had never noticed before how incredibly soft his lips were or how gentle his hands felt against her skin as he slowly trailed them beneath her sweater.

His kisses swallowed her moans of pleasure and slowly walked her backgrounds until she pressed up against the wall.

“I love you too” Maria murmured as he dragged his lips down the smooth column of her throat. Chills danced up and down her spine as his tongue laved at her pulse point and nipped at her ear. “God Michael” she moaned and her breath hitched as he flicked the button of her jeans open and slid his hand beneath the coarse material to her very wet center.

Teasingly, he dipped his fingers in and out, all the while kissing every inch of exposed skin he could reach. Maria felt on fire despite the frigid chill outside and hastily began fumbling with his belt.

Her slick heat coated his fingers, holding him within her tight depths as she came, shaking like a leaf in his strong embrace. “Please” she whimpered and gasped inaudibly when he pushed her clothes the rest of the way down her legs and lifted her up, pressing her firmly between his muscular body and the old shed wall. “Yes” she moaned when he thrust up and filled her with his thick length.

The sound of laughter, bells ringing, rides moving and people walking, flooded the air around them, though neither cared. They were too caught up in one another and the pleasure they were receiving to notice anything outside the small, dark shed.

“Maria…” Michael moaned and continued pressing sensual kisses across her collarbone. She was so wet, so responsive and Michael was rapidly getting lost in her as moans and harsh pants filled his ear.

“So close…” he heard her murmur softly. Helpfully, Michael cupped her ass and continued his motions, pulling her close with every thrust. “Oh god” she moaned and let her head rest heavily against his shoulder, holding on tight as she rode his cock to fulfillment. “Yes… yes...Michael!” she called out blissfully.

Her pussy tightened around him, causing Michael to groan into her neck as she continued to slide up and down on his length. “Fuck me till you let go” she whispered in his ear began gasping with each stroke as her orgasm drifted into the next, making the pleasure so incredible that Maria was left tired and sated when he finally spilled his seed in her welcoming pussy.

“God Michael” Maria groaned quietly as she slid down his body. She was grateful for his strong arms holding her close, afraid she’d fall to the ground without his support. “That was amazing” she stated bluntly and looked up into his eyes when he still didn’t speak. “What?” she queried.

“I’m still mad at you” he said softly. “But I’ll get over it” he added, smirking only when Maria expelled a sigh of relief. “I really do love you, you know. No more tests” he sated, not in the least bit fooled by her earlier declaration that it hadn’t been one.

“Promise” Maria vowed and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “I love you.”

Michael smiled and enjoyed the way the words sounded as they fell from her lips.

“Where do you wanna go now?” Max wondered and took Liz by the hand. After her science club duty, he knew they only had a half hour at most before she was due to relieve Tess at the kissing booth. Because of their girlfriend’s conflicting schedules, Kyle and Max agreed to check out some of the sports booths while they waited it out, figuring they’d probably meet up with either Michael or Alex with Isabel somewhere along the way.

“Hmm… how about the House of Mirrors” Liz suggested since it was just around the corner.

“I’d rather not” Max replied and the tone of his voice was enough to draw Liz’s attention to the nervous expression he wore.

“Okay…” she said slowly. “Care to tell me why?” she asked and while he didn’t answer right away, he did lead her to the fringe of all the noise and pulled her down beside him on the solid dirt surface.

“I got lost in one when I was a kid and it was just this really bad experience” Max answered quietly and while Liz hated to see him bothered about anything, she couldn’t help but feel a little glad that there was finally something that she could help him with. On most occasions he was comforting, reassuring or listening to her and Liz relished the idea of being on the giving end this time around.

“Tell me about it” she requested gently and was awarded a small smile from her incredible boyfriend.

“Well… it was right around the time when my parents were divorcing. Isabel and I kept getting shuttled between Seattle and Roswell. I think we spent more time on planes and in airports than we actually did with our parents” Max explained, surprising Liz. She had just assumed that Philip and Diane had always been so together based on what she had seen only weeks before. She never would guessed Max and Isabel had had to suffer through the feeling of loneliness and uncertainty but listening to him now, she was able to read between the lines and guess that that was exactly how they had felt.

“I think my dad was starting to figure it out so on one of our visits, he took Isabel and I to a carnival” Max continued thoughtfully. “I guess he wanted to somehow make up for everything in that one night so he we played all the games and rode all the rides. It was… a lot of fun” he admitted. “Isabel was up on the Ferris Wheel and I was waiting on the ground with dad since he’s terrified of open heights. We were gonna get some pizza afterwards and watch movies but then my mom called and… all hell broke loose.”

Impulsively, Liz took his hand in hers and squeezed it gently, silently offering her support.

“Even now, I have no clue why they fought that night but I just couldn’t stand to hear it again so I ran off and ended up lost in the House of Mirrors” Max stated with an indifferent shrug that was bellied by the tone in his voice. “I kept walking into mirrors and I couldn’t… couldn’t find the exit. Finally, this guy, Deputy Fisher, found me wandering around and pulled me out.”

Liz could vaguely imagine a scared, elementary aged Max. She was so used to his strength and courage that it was hard to believe there had ever been a time when he wasn’t fearless. She could imagine shy, but never afraid.

“One good thing came out of it though” Max added, bringing Liz back to the present. “Afterwards, they finally sat down and came up with the holiday and visitation agreement they still use.”

Liz’s smile quickly turned into a confused frown when Max pulled her back up to her feet. “Come on” he suggested and began leading her towards the house they had just been talking about.

“We don’t have to go in there” Liz stated firmly and dug her heals in the ground.

“I know” Max said, turning to face and pull her close. “But I can’t be afraid forever, what would our kids think” he stated and continued to lead Liz forward, unaware of what he’d just let slip, though the words echoed in Liz’s head.

Kids.

Oddly enough, that idea didn’t scare her, it filled her with anticipation for a future she wanted to have with Max.

Hi everyone, thanks for the feedback and it's nice to see some lurkers coming out of hiding  . Songs used are 'Pieces of Me' by Ashlee Simpson and 'Colorblind' by Counting Crows. Thanks again, enjoy!!

Chapter 21

“That was fun” Isabel laughed, clutching the panda bear Alex won. It had taken eight games of trying to knock over a pyramid of milk bottles, but he had been determined and eventually won the coveted bear. He wasn’t a very athletic guy, that much Isabel knew, and he also tended to reside over on the clumsy side but he was incredibly sweet and more than that, he made her laugh.

“Yeah, because you’ve got road rage” Alex scoffed and shot the blue bumper car she rode a dirty look. His mock glare caused Isabel to laugh even harder, lighting her entire face up.

He seemed bothered but Isabel knew he was just teasing since she’d had continuously knocked into him, effectively cutting him off each time he tried going after another car. “Trust me, you haven’t seen road rage until you sit in a car with Maria during rush hour” she retorted, thinking back to the countless times she feared for her life with Maria behind the wheel.

Shrugging, Alex took Isabel’s free hand and pulled her close to him. A song filled the air from the PA previously playing Christmas carols.

On a Monday, I am waiting
Tuesday, I am fading
And by Wednesday, I can't sleep
Then the phone rings, I hear you
And the darkness is a clear view
Cuz you've come to rescue me

Isabel snuggled closer to Alex’s warmth and buried her face in the soft cashmere of his sweater. She liked the feel of his hand on her back, holding her with a gentle possessiveness that made her feel like the only person in his world.

Around them, a few other couples danced to the quiet strains of Ashlee Simpson, faintly heard over the din of laughing students.

Fall... With you, I fall so fast
I can hardly catch my breath, I hope it lasts

With the panda squished between them and a chill blowing through their hair, they danced. Time stopped for Isabel and as she listened to the words playing overhead, she decided it must be fate.

No one had ever understood her the way Alex did, no one had ever seen her the way he did. It wasn’t about the size of her breasts or the color of her hair, it was just about her. Every look, every touch, it was like filling her with some indescribable feeling she’d never before experienced and while it scary, it was amazing. Isabel never wanted it go away.

Ohhhhh
It seems like I can finally rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Ohhhhh
It's as if you know me better than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me

With a smile adorning his face, Alex looked down, meeting her eyes with his. No words were needed, they both knew what they felt, what was in their hearts and that was all that mattered. Isabel hoped it would always be the only thing that mattered.

I am moody, messy
I get restless, and its senseless
How you never seem to care

When I'm angry, you listen
Make me happy it's your mission
And you won't stop til I'm there

Slow and timid like their very first kiss, their lips met in a soft caress. He treated her like a porcelain doll, someone to be treated with gentle reverence but he also felt passion, fire burning and all consuming passion that left both breathless every time they kissed. It was why they didn’t need words, they had feelings, they had respect and more than that… they had love.

Fall... Sometimes I fall so fast
When I hit that bottom
Crash, you're all I have

Ohhhhh
It seems like I can finally rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Ohhhhh
It's as if you known me better than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me

Max waited patiently as Liz talked to the guy running the House of Mirrors. He wasn’t sure what she had up her sleeve but she seemed really excited about whatever it was. Moments later, she reappeared by his side and instantly reached for his hand. “Okay, come on” she encouraged and led him into the deserted haunt.

“What was that all about?” Max wondered, quirking his brow in question.

“That was about making a deal” Liz replied. The look she shot him was knowing and innocent, positive that he was waiting for some sort of elaboration but the thought of showing him instead seemed more appealing. Tugging gently, she urged him to keep following and led him through a labyrinth of mirrors.

She was tall in some, wide in others. Her head was outrageously big in one and her body was tiny in another. The house was full of mirrors that distorted your reflection, making you appear to be something you weren’t. Liz searched, unaware of the way Max observed her silent perusal. She needed to find a certain mirror, needed to show Max their true reflections.

It was in the center, placed between two that were more distorted than any of the others. “This is the one” she declared and moved to stand behind Max. Her arms encircled his waist as her head rested against the muscled planes of his back. “What do you see?” she asked.

“I see me” Max replied, turning away when he felt Liz release her hold. He followed her movements as she walked around him, never releasing her from his gaze.

“Now what do you see?” she asked once they stood together, her back to his chest, his arms now the ones wrapped around her.

“I see us” Max whispered.

“I see us too” Liz replied. “I see the way your eyes fill with love as you look at me. I see the way I look at you, like you’re the only thing in the world that matters to me. I see us, in love and full of life.” She felt his heart speed up behind her, matching the frantic rhythm hers beat to but she didn’t stop there. “Nothing that shows us a reflection of something so pure, something so real, could ever be bad” she softly added and it was then, that realization flashed in his eyes.

“I love you” he whispered in her ear and placed feather light kisses against her skin.

Her eyes threatened to close but she fought to keep them open, aroused beyond words at the idea of having sex in the center of a dozen mirrors.

I am colorblind
Coffee black and egg white
Pull me out from inside
I am ready

Liz couldn’t help the way her hips swayed, grinding into his erection. Knowing that he was already hard and ready for her was a big turn on for Liz who moaned softly at the feel of his hands cupping her breasts. “You’re beautiful” he murmured and trailed his hands further down until he reached the waist band of her pants.

She gasped, feeling the warmth of his palms over her bare skin. She was soft… smooth to the touch, further arousing Max who painfully hard and standing proud at attention.

I am taffy stuck and tongue tied
Stutter shook and uptight
Pull me out from inside
I am ready
I am fine

Hastily, she pushed the coat from his shoulders and shrugged out of her own when he returned the favor. One by one, articles of clothing were removed or pushed aside until neither could wait a moment longer.

With her body facing the mirror and her hands pressed up against their reflection, Max teased her pussy with the head of his dick. Her juices coated his thick erection, a testament to how wet and turned on she was. “Baby please” she whimpered and moaned in delight when he finally pushed all the way inside. “Oh god…”

He was thick and filled her completely as he slowly moved.

Liz’s eyes remained glued to the mirror, holding his gaze in the reflective glass.

I am covered in skin
No one gets to come in
Pull me out from inside
I am folded and unfolded and unfolding
I am colorblind

Max’s hands covered her own and moved with slow, unhurried thrusts. “You’re so tight” he groaned in approval. It was incredibly erotic to watch themselves, to see the pleasure etched on their faces. Max found himself moving faster, needing to reach deeper, needing to fill her completely while Liz never wanted him to stop.

“Yes baby… harder Max” Liz pleaded, feeling the beginning flutters of an orgasm. She clenched her muscles and was awarded a deep, pleasured groan from her hot boyfriend who began to thrust harder into her wet pussy.

Coffee black and egg white
Pull me out from inside
I am ready
I am fine

“Oh god yes… Max!” Liz called out and used the mirror as leverage to push back against him. Their hips clashed. Liz had to bite her lip to hold in her moans of ecstasy. Max lowered his hands, using the tips of his fingers to tug on her nipples. It was sensory overload, making it impossible to hold out for long. “I’m so close… yes baby… Max!”

Her pussy fluttered tightly around his cock, holding him deep within her slick depths until the pleasure was too much. Max thrust up several more times before his dick lengthened and he exploded, shooting a torrent of cum into her waiting pussy. “Fuck yes… Liz!” he groaned in release.

Their harsh pants fogged up the mirror in front of them and their bodies, slick with sweat, were rapidly cooling. Liz didn’t want to go to the kissing booth, she didn’t want to leave Max’s side and only took comfort in the idea that it was for only an hour. Max would find the guys, kill some time with them and then after it was all over, Liz could go back with him to his apartment and have a repeat performance of what they had just done.

Neither said anything as they got dressed but when he left finally left her side at the Delta/Sigma booth, he offered a smile and a wink before walking away. Kyle was with him and Liz found herself wishing she could leave with them.

“Alright folks, step up to get kissed by our reigning Greek Queen Liz Parker or Sigma senior, Grant Sorensen” was the last thing Max heard before the sounds around him became too loud to hear anything else.

“What would you like to do next?” Alex queried. With his gaze focused on all the entertainment around them, he didn’t notice that Isabel’s eyes had never left his face. “How about the… what?” he asked.

“I love you” she whispered.

“I know” Alex smiled, drawing one from Isabel. “Ditto”

Hello everyone!! Thanks for the great feedback. I know that someone are wondering huh? Why did he just say ditto. In this story, I just didn't want Alex to be the only one chasing like he was in the show *shrugs* Again, thanks for all your feedback. Enjoy!

Chapter 22

“So what’s the deal with you and Evans? Is it serious” Grant inquired in between customers. The lines were long and getting longer by the minute… or so it seemed to Liz. Twenty minutes had passed and she couldn’t be more miserable. Guys came forward by the dozen to kiss her and every one felt like a betrayal to Max.

“What’s it to you?” Liz asked warily. While Grant had never been a problem before, he was also Sean Deluca’s friend. Liz knew for a fact, via Maria, that Sean hated Max because of that day in the quad. He believed that she was actually close to saying yes before Max came along and ruined it. Liz laughed at the idea then but now she wondered whether or not she should have taken it more seriously.

“Just curious” Grant shrugged. His answer, however, still wasn’t enough to set Liz at ease.

“Well then let me settle your curiosity” Liz stated, fixing him with unwavering stare. “It’s serious”

“Down girl, point taken” Grant retorted dryly.

~&~&~&~&~&

“Hey Max, what do you say we… hello… earth to Max!” Maria yelled, waving her hands back and forth in front of his face.

After nearly half an hour, Max still was unable to get his mind off the beautiful brunette occupied only twenty feet away. It hadn’t taken long for Maria and Michael to find him and Kyle. It had taken even less time for Maria to take the lead, picking and choosing all the booths she wanted to visit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep him from picturing Liz with all those guys.

Max honestly believed he would be okay but now that Liz was actually out there, kissing a line of guys, he wanted nothing more than to whisk her away from everyone.

“Why don’t you just go get her?” Michael shrugged, a true testament to how well he knew his roommate.

“I can’t” Max said, regret in his voice. The way he looked at it, Kyle, Tess, Maria and Michael all made it through the night, he could do it too. He just didn’t want to. “Come on… why don’t we grab something to drink?” he suggested and walked off before anyone could dispute his decision.

~&~&~&~&~&

“I guess I can see why you were voted Greek Queen” Grant commented when the lines parted and it was apparent how many people had paid to kiss Liz. A sigh escaped her lips while his statement only served to make Liz feel worse.

“Shut up” she muttered so that only he heard.

“Hey Parker”

“Someone shoot me now” Liz groaned as Sean Deluca stepped up, waving around a handful of tickets. It looked as though he had paid enough for a dozen or more kisses, something Liz was less than pleased about. “Wasn’t there a limit to how many tickets you could buy?” she wondered aloud.

“Twelve” Sean stated, placing each one down in front of her.

Liz looked around, trying to find some way out of the hole she found herself in. Beside her, Grant stood smirking at his buddy, more than aware of how uncomfortable Liz was. “Alright” Liz sighed and took a deep breath, praying that Max would not choose that moment to walk by. God was obviously busy with more important things just then.

With purposeful strides, Max walked forward, not sparing Sean or anyone else a second glance. In a move that would make any caveman jealous, he grabbed Liz and tossed her over his shoulder. “Liz Parker is done for tonight” he announced and didn’t stop, even when several of the guys booed. “There’s an opening at the kissing booth” he told Courtney as they walked by. “Enjoy.”

Kyle and Michael watched with smirks on their faces, Maria looked shocked and Isabel, who caught sight of her brother as he strolled by, was very proud.

~&~&~&~&~&

“What do you think happened?” Alex wondered after the group had relayed the story to Tess who showed up after all the excitement.

“She didn’t look mad” Kyle shrugged, not understanding why she would be. As far as he was concerned, Max had every right to do what he had done. After spending months hearing Sean moon over Liz, uncaring that she had a boyfriend, Kyle had no sympathy for his frat brother and decided that Max’s actions were completely justified.

Hell, Kyle had even glared at all the guys who looked at Tess the wrong way.

“Trust me” Tess stated as a small smiled played across her lips. “I don’t think Liz and Max will be fighting about anything tonight.”

~&~&~&~&~&

“Oh god Max… harder” Liz demanded in a lust filled voice. She was so wet that Max easily slid in and out of her of hot depths. “Fuck me… yes” she whimpered while her hands tightly fisted the sheets. Liz didn’t think she had ever been this turned on before but something about the way Max carried her off had been so arousing.

Getting him into bed had been the only thing on Liz’s mind once they left the carnival. Unfortunately, they were several miles away so to fill her time, she had occupied herself by giving Max a blowjob. Liz wasn’t sure, but she swore he swerved when he came, filling her mouth with spurts of his delicious cum.

“So wet…” he muttered and hammered his thick cock deep inside her. Liz enjoyed being on all fours, deciding that he felt even more incredible in this position. He was so big, always filling her up like no one else ever had before.

“Oh fuck… yes” she moaned at the feel of his hand tugging her nipples. “Baby, I’m so close” Liz whimpered as his cock hit a very pleasurable spot.

Hands on her hips, Max held Liz steady as he pounded inside her. He could feel her walls contracting around him seconds before she came, screaming out her release. “Fuck yes… Max!”

He continued to push inside her drenched pussy, groaning at the feel her juices coating his cock. “You feel so good…” he groaned, feeling his balls tighten. Harder… faster… he thrust forward until his cock lengthened and he came, shooting wads of cum into her dripping wet pussy. “Liz…” he called out before they collapsed against the mattress.

~&~&~&~&~&

“Yes, I’m angry” Liz stated harshly. “Did you ever consider that maybe I had other plans or that I wanted to spend the holidays somewhere else?” she questioned and barely suppressed a groan at the answer she received.

It was always the same thing every year. Nancy and Jeff cared so much about appearances that it was practically considered blasphemy to even contemplate spending Christmas somewhere other than in Louisiana. The fact that Liz only saw them during the annual Christmas party somehow escaped them when asked why she should even bother showing up.

“I’m not making any promises” she finally replied and quickly hung up the phone before anything else could be said.

True, she and Max had yet to discuss their holiday plans, but she had hoped they would be together. More than anything, she wanted to ask him to tag along but she couldn’t bring herself to request he miss out on time with his own family just so that he could be carted around by her parents like some show goat.

They weren’t exactly snobs, but Liz knew their behavior would result from their opinion of Max. She had no doubt he would pass whatever tests they gave him, she just didn’t want him to be subjected to her parents idiosyncrasies… especially after finding out how wonderful his parents were.

“Hey Lizzie, can I borrow your blue… what’s wrong?” Tess asked, her voice softening at the sight of her best friend’s glassy eyes.

“Nothing, just another touching heart to heart with mom” Liz replied, sarcasm dripping from the last word.

“Let me guess” Tess interrupted. “Nancy has added more people to her social circle and wants you to come home for the sole purpose of showing you off to her newest” she dryly replied. Three and a half years of friendship had taught Tess many things about Liz Parker’s life; the one most prominent and never changing was her parents’ thinking.

“You know… all those times I stayed with your family, I actually managed to convince myself that they were weird” Liz confessed. The look Tess wore at this admission was comical, almost causing Liz to stop and laugh. “I decided that it wasn’t possible for relatives to actually love and take care of each other. I told myself that you were all like… pod people or something” she said and this time, she did laugh.

To say that it had been a blow to her ego during that first visit would be an understatement. Liz found herself staring at everyone during these random moments, wondering why they seemed to love each other so much more than anyone in her own family had ever loved her. She didn’t cry, didn’t consider herself a sad little rich girl because she didn’t have her parents’ attention, but she did wish for… something… anything more.

“A month ago, when I went to Seattle with Max, I realized that your family members weren’t the pod people, mine were.”

“I know that your family sucks” Tess stated bluntly. “But they’re the only one you have. Listen to them, roll your eyes behind their back if you want but remember that when all is said and done, they’re still the only ones you’ll ever have.”

Long after Tess left her alone to think, Liz contemplated her friend’s words. She was right, family wasn’t perfect, they didn’t always see eye to eye but at the end of the day, they were still her family.

Emitting a small sigh, Liz decided she was going home to Baton Rouge for the holidays.

A few houses over, Kyle stood in his room, trying to decide on the perfect way to invite Tess home with him. Sure, she had already met his dad during the whole Thanksgiving, football fiasco but he wanted to take her to Chicago, wanted to show her the place he grew up in but more than that, he didn’t want to leave her.

Kyle was amazed at how quickly he’d grown attached to the blonde beauty. She was everything he wanted, sweet, caring, intelligent and he found himself falling fast. Now the only thing left was to invite her home and find some way to tell her exactly how he felt.

“So…what are you doing for the holidays?” Isabel queried, an innocent expression adorning her features as she looked up at Alex.

If he had thought that question over, his face betrayed nothing as he continued to sift his fingers through her hair, dipping low enough to lightly caress her bare back with each pass. “Well… I was actually hoping that you could come home with me this time, but… I do understand if you’d rather go home with Max to be with your parents.”

Isabel listened, thinking about the way he’d missed out on time with his family just to go home with her. She didn’t want him to be the only one ever making sacrifices in their relationship and she also didn’t want to be away from him for so long. “I wanna go with you.”

The smile that lit Alex’s face was enough reassurance for Isabel. “I love you” he murmured against her lips and rolled her over so that she rose above him. They spent the rest of the night showing each other just how much.

Hi everyone!! Thanks for your incredible patience and your very kind feedback. Here's the next chapter but... later today there will be another chapter posted as well. To anyone reading my other stories, I'll be updating as many as possible throughout the day so without further ado... thanks again!!!

Chapter 23

“You are never gonna guess what I just heard from the Sigma president” Serena said, wearing an amused grin that stretched from ear to ear. “Actually, has anyone noticed that Courtney is missing?” she asked instead, causing Maria to mutter ‘who cares?’ while the others looked around for the absent blonde.

“Okay… where is she?” Isabel finally queried, deciding that Serena wasn’t going to tell them anything else until someone asked.

“She has mono” Serena stated and laughed at the wide eyed looks all four girls shot her. “And that’s not all” she quickly added, raising a hand before anyone could interrupt with another question. “Apparently, Vicky caught her making out with Sean after the booth closed and now both of them are bed ridden for the next week or more” she happily informed.

While Serena wasn’t a mean person by nature, she had witnessed first hand all the trouble both Courtney and Sean had recently caused and decided this newest event might be enough to settle them both.

“Wait a minute… who’s gonna be Santa Clause if Sean is sick” Isabel instantly asked. “Everyone else already has a job” she pointed out, reminding them all of the upcoming party they were having at the Children’s Hospital the next day.

“Hold the phone” Maria interrupted. “Who the hell nominated my bonehead cousin to play the jolly fat guy?” she questioned, wearing a truly puzzled expression.

“Focus Maria” Tess stated, nudging her not so gently. “Besides, isn’t that for the Sigma guys to figure out?” she asked, unsure of why they had to find a replacement. At her question, the others turned their curious expressions towards her, wondering why she was acting so strange. Liz was the only one who knew Tess was nervous about going to the hospital.

“We’re in charge of all joint projects this semester so we’re the ones that have to find a replacement” Isabel reminded, deciding that there had to be a reason for their friend’s behavior.

“Well… I think I have an idea”

~&~&~&~&~&

“Hey babe, you almost ready to go?” Kyle asked from Tess’ doorway. He looked so casual, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed in front of him.

Tess couldn’t help but smile at the picture he made, standing before her in a plain white t-shirt and furry brown pants. She could only imagine what he looked like wearing the other half of his costume.

“Almost” she replied, stuffing her elf hat and shoes into a bright red messenger bag. Because of their small sizes, she had been nominated along with Liz, Serena and Maria to play Santa’s little helpers. It wasn’t the best job, but it was better than playing reindeer which most of the Sigma guys would be doing.

While she seemed fine, Kyle was more than aware how worried she truly was. He accepted the fact that hospitals would always be a bad place for Tess. He knew that the cause was the only reason she agreed to go at all. He knew all of this, but he still wished he could do something… anything, to make her feel more at ease. He only hoped that being around all the children would somehow put at least one smile on her face while she was there.

“I’ll take that” Kyle offered as he pulled the bag from her hand.

“Thanks” Tess smiled. It was genuine, but it never reached her eyes.

~&~&~&~&~&

Rudolph the red nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glowed

The sound of laughter and bells jingling filled the air. Turning around the corner was Rudolph, leading six other furry reindeer to a group of excited children. Their smiles stretched from ear to ear, making all the hard work and planning entirely worth it.

“Ho Ho Ho… Merry Christmas!” Santa called out from the large sleigh on wheels.

Candy Cane, Snowflake, Tinsel and Twinkle all hopped out, leaving only Santa and Mrs. Clause to greet the young patients.

Quickly, the four elves set up a little area for pictures on Santa’s lap and began sorting through the bags of gifts. “He’s incredible with them” Serena stated, watching as Santa laughed and chatted with all the little kids milling around the lounge. “Does he have any younger siblings or cousins he’s close to?” she wondered.

“Nope” Maria answered with a single nod. “Only child” she replied and continued pulling out gifts. Serena never noticed the small smile Maria wore at the sight of her boyfriend acting so sweet and being so helpful.

All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

“Okay… say Christmas” Liz requested and snapped a picture of a five year old sitting across Michael and Isabel’s lap. He was entertaining and friendly while Isabel perfectly acted out the part of the woman behind the man. The kids loved them both for it. “Here you go sweetheart” Liz said and handed the happy child her developed Polaroid.

One by one they stepped up, sat in Michael’s lap and told him what their Christmas wishes were. Some kids wanted a toy truck or a Barbie doll but there were a select few who requested something bigger and much more important as their holiday gift. Some just wanted to heal and even Stonewall Guerin wasn’t immune to the sadness in their eyes or the hitch in their voice as they wished to get better.

“Hey Snowflake, fetch Santa a Snapple” Michael requested nearly a half hour later.

The indignant look he received was quickly wiped away as all the younger children began to giggle. Maria could have smacked him, but all the kids seemed to enjoy the funny way Santa acted so she played her part, gave him a tight smile and went off in search of a vending machine. Michael was no fool, he knew retribution would come eventually but he also it wouldn’t be anything he couldn’t handle.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
“Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”

As the elf named Tinsel, Tess passed out fruit flavored candy canes while Twinkle, also known as Serena, handed out large, colorful ornaments. A table equipped with glue sticks, glitter, thin strips of felt, markers and flat shaped beads was set up for five kids at a time to sit and personalize their own ornament. Later, a nurse would place all of them up on the plain Christmas tree the Sigmas brought.

Ironically, Vicky was great with all the kids. Those who had already talked to Santa and finished their ornaments took a seat on the floor around the Delta president who read “T’was the Night Before Christmas.” She was an eloquent speaker and an amazing narrator, leaving the children completely enthralled in the story they were being told. Adding to this strange occurrence was a bright smile which replaced her normally stern expression.

“Hey Doug, can you take over for a sec?” Tess asked when the sterile scent of the white walled hospital became too much for her.

“Yeah, sure” he replied, accepting the offered box of remaining candy canes to finish passing out. When it came down to it, he wasn’t a bad guy, he just hung out with the wrong friends, namely Grant and Sean.

Then all the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
Rudolph the red nosed reindeer
You’ll go down in history

From beneath the big, furry head he wore, Kyle watched Tess walk away and disappear around the corner. He wanted to go to her, wanted to see for himself that she was okay, but he was harnessed to six other reindeer, therefore making it impossible to leave his post. “I’ll go” Liz whispered as she walked by, earning a swift nod from Kyle.

~&~&~&~&~&

“To be loved is to live forever in someone’s heart” Liz said softly. The sight of her friend’s shoulders shaking and her blonde curls spilled around her face was one Liz would never forget. It was also a sight that mirrored her own reflection several years before. “It’s what Max told me after I told him about Grandma Claudia” she explained.

Slowly, Liz walked forward until she was directly in front of Tess, sitting Indian style on the hard, linoleum floor. Crystalline tears fell, forming a small puddle between them that was more than enough evidence of Tess’ feelings.

“Sweetie, I know it’s hard being here. I know that you lost so much inside a hospital but think back to the woman who raised you for so many years. Would she want you to be this sad? Would she want you to be sitting out here while there’s a group of sick children in there?” Liz asked, deciding that Tess needed to start healing.

Agonized blue eyes met sympathetic brown ones as a string of words fell from Tess’ mouth. “No offense or anything Liz, I know that you lost someone important to you too but she was your grandmother. This was my mother” she defended, angry and frustrated that no one seemed to understand just how hard this was.

“I know there’s a difference” Liz acknowledged, trying hard not to take offense to her best friend’s comment. “But you also need to see that…”

“No” Tess interrupted, shaking her head back and forth. “I watched her suffer, I watched her slowly slip away and the day she died, I sat in the room with her, holding her hand until the last breath left her body” she confessed in a voice that was choked up with tears. “I watched her die and every time I set foot in a hospital, any time I turn the corner, I picture her bed waiting on the other end. I hear the monitors beeping and I see the nurses filing in. She didn’t want to be resuscitated, she said she just wanted to go in peace so she just… just let herself die and I… I couldn’t walk away from her, I had to… to stay and… and watch her die.”

Liz pulled Tess to her, holding her in a tight embrace as she rocked back and forth. A part of her wondered if Tess’ inability to heal from her horrible experience had to do with anger as much as sadness. “I’m here sweetie” Liz whispered in her ear. “I’m here.”

An off key rendition of “Deck the Halls” wafted to their ears, filling the silence of the quiet wing they sat in. Behind them, the door to the chapel opened and an elderly man walked down, tears spilling from his eyes, newsboy hat in hand. The expression he wore changed in front of their eyes, sadness and despair to determination. He shot both girls an encouraging smile before walking on to an unknown room to see an unnamed patient.

“What’s wrong with me?” Tess cried out. “I’m a grown woman. Why can’t I get over this?”

“You can’t get over it because I don’t think you ever truly get over something like that” Liz quietly replied.

While she had some experience in this area, the hurt Liz felt when her grandma Claudia past away was entirely different from the hurt Tess had to experience. She wasn’t trivializing her own pain, in all actuality it had hurt like hell, but again… it was impossible to compare the two because they were two different people, two different situations.

Growing up in a home where her parents were hardly ever around had been a difficult thing to handle. Liz constantly felt as though it was her fault. She felt that her parents left because they didn’t care enough, didn’t love her enough. As time passed, she eventually figured out that it was more about their own wants and interests than any lack of emotions they felt towards her.

Now, the difference lied in circumstance. Nancy Parker could leave the state, could leave the country but eventually, she would always come back. Tess’ mother was never coming back and that realization was one Tess had yet to deal with. Liz didn’t blame her, she didn’t envy her situation either but she did envy the strength Tess held inside. She only wished Tess could see it as prominently as everyone else could.

“And there’s nothing wrong with you. There’s never anything wrong with loving someone” Liz softly added.

“I just wish I could… that things would be… that I… hell, I don’t even know what I wish for anymore” Tess shrugged as the tears continued to fall. She looked so lost and alone. Liz didn’t know what to do or say anymore but just as she opened her mouth to try again, a voice joined the group.

“I can take it from here Candy Cane” Kyle quietly stated and easily took Liz’s place on the floor with his girlfriend.

As she stood to leave, Liz glanced once at the couple who easily fit in each other’s arms. She didn’t think Kyle knew what to say either but he knew what to do for Tess. Liz had a feeling that he was the only one who really did.

A large Santa jacket, his hat and a pair of green, women’s tights lay discarded on the already messy carpet.

“Oh god Michael… yes baby… yes!” Maria called in pleasure. He continued to lick up her juices, paying special attention to her clit until she finally came down from her high. “I need you to fuck me now” she demanded and hastily pulled Michael up from his kneeling position on the floor.

“Stay” Michael said, gently nudging her back on the bed. With her legs wrapped around his waist, he took his cock in hand, using it to tease her drenched pussy until she was begging for more. In one quick thrust, Michael pushed deep inside, causing Maria to call out in satisfaction. “So wet” he muttered as he easily slid in and out of her slick walls.

“Fuck yes Michael… harder baby” Maria pleaded and moaned loudly when he pushed her shirt up and tugged on her nipples. “Oh god that feels… so good” she murmured and fisted her hands in the sheets.

“Has Snowflake been a good girl?” Michael teased, slowing his pace to a gentle rocking.

“Hmm… I’ve been a bad girl” Maria moaned and writhed around on the sheets in frustration.

“Then you need to be punished” Michael said and began hammering his hard cock faster inside her.

Maria grabbed onto his arms as she began to slide back and forth with every thrust. “Yes… punish me…I’ve been so naughty” she groaned and whimpered in pleasure as he continued to pound harder, filling her with a deep sated satisfaction. “Oh god Michael… I’m so close baby… harder” she whimpered and started screaming in ecstasy as she came, holding him tight within her wet depths.

“Fuck Maria” Michael groaned at how tight she was. Several strokes later, he followed her into oblivion, roaring with pleasure as he emptied himself inside her.

Reluctantly, Michael pulled out and collapsed on the bed beside Maria. Both were still mostly dressed, wearing their holiday clothes from earlier though neither cared. After arguing loudly the entire way back to his apartment, both were so keyed up that they were all over each other as they stumbled through the door. Removing everything else just hadn’t been a priority at the time.

“That was…incredible”

“Yeah” Michael panted back. “Ready for more?” he asked before rolling over on top of Maria for round 2.

Thanks everyone!!! Here's the second and promised update of the day. Enjoy!

Chapter 24

“Max is here” Isabel said in a passing as she walked by Liz’s room. Normally she would stop for a moment and chat but the wide grin on her face and a cell phone attached to her ear led Liz to believe Isabel was too busy on the phone with Alex.

Hitting the pause button on her remote, Liz pushed the comforter back and trotted downstairs to retrieve her very handsome boyfriend. “I was hoping I’d see you tonight” she said and leaned up to receive a soft kiss. “Did I forget we had plans?” she then asked, taking in the white button down shirt and dark slacks he wore. Max was a denim kind of guy and she couldn’t actually remember seeing him in anything other than jeans before. Liz thought he looked incredibly sexy and couldn’t help but lick her lips in anticipation.

“What? Oh… no, I had that meeting with Professor Topolsky today about her TA position for next semester” Max explained, accepting Liz’s offered hand. Together, the two walked up the stairs to her room, waiting until the door was closed before quickly fusing their lips together.

“Did you… you get the… the job?” she asked in between kisses. The pressure of his lips against hers was quickly going to her head. The feel of his hands trailing up her body caused shivers to race up her spine. The way he pressed his body against hers, pushing his erection against her stomach made Liz wet with want. “Oh god I want you so bad” she moaned and began pulling at the buttons of his shirt.

“Yeah…” Max murmured against her neck. “I um… I got the… the job” he stuttered when he felt Liz’s hand dip inside his slacks, grasping his thick cock in her little hand. “Fuck baby… I need to be inside you.”

Swiftly, Max lifted Liz up into his arms and deposited her on the bed. Clothes flew all around them as they hurriedly divested each other of all garments. “Max… yes baby” Liz moaned when he plunged two fingers inside her drenched pussy. Shamelessly, she rode his hand and bucked her hips, trying to get closer to him.

“Are you horny baby?” he asked, placing small, open mouthed kisses to her skin.

“So horny” Liz murmured and bit her lip, desperately trying to hold in her sound of pleasure. She was more than aware of how many girls were currently in the house and had no intention of letting them hear a live show. “So close” she muttered and nearly whimpered in distress when he pulled away.

The glare she shot him caused Max to chuckle softly. “I just wanna do this” he said and lowered himself until he was level with her pussy.

“Oh fuck” she said as he touched his tongue to her wet slit. He licked her up and down, paying special attention to her clit before dipping his tongue inside her hole. He built her up all over again then attached his lips to her clit and sucked hungrily until she came apart beneath him.

His name was like a mantra on her lips, a soft chant as she shook with pleasure.

Her eyes stayed closed, her lip between her teeth as she tried to catch her breath. Just as managed to calm her rapidly beating heart, he slipped his thick erection inside her, causing another moan to escape her lips. “Yes” she hissed in satisfaction as he filled her up. “Baby yes” she moaned and raised her hips to meet his every stroke.

The sight of her looking so satisfied spurred Max on, wanting to see the desire etched in her every feature. With practiced ease, he captured one bouncing breast in his mouth and hungrily sucked on her nipple. His teeth gently scraped against the sensitive peak, causing Liz to cry out in ecstasy. “You feel so good” Max groaned as he easily slid his big cock in and out of her slick pussy.

“Harder Max… harder” Liz whimpered and barely held in another scream when he pushed her legs further apart and rose up on his knees.

With one hand on her hip, Max continued his long, deep strokes. Deftly, he pinched her nipples until they were hard and jutting out then trailed his hand down to her pussy. “Oh fuck yes” she moaned in approval as he began to rub her clit in time to his strokes. “Oh god Max… I’m so close baby… harder” she pleaded and used her hands to muffle her mouth when he started to fuck her harder.

Harsh pants and satisfied moans filled the room as they continued to move, both desperately searching for their release.

“Baby that’s it… MAX!” Liz called out as she came. Her pussy fluttered tightly around his dick, holding him like a hot glove until the pleasure was too much and he blew his load, pumping his seed into her wet depths. “Liz” he groaned never ceasing his movements until she’d milked him dry.

Neither spoke for several moments, both too tired to do little more than lay in silence. “Congratulations” Liz finally stated. “For getting the TA position” she added when Max shot her a confused look.

“Thanks” Max murmured as he buried his face in her neck.

“That tickles” Liz giggled when she felt soft wisps of breath on her hot skin. She didn’t see him, but she felt Max smile against her neck and couldn’t help but smile back. She knew she was goner, she was completely, head over heels in love with him and a part of her knew she always would be. She just hoped he would always feel the same way too. “Max… there’s something I wanted to ask you” she tentatively stated.

“Hmm…?” he asked, distracted by the way she gently ran her fingers through his hair. If she didn’t stop soon, she would either put him to sleep or arouse him enough for a quick second round.

“Well… I was wondering what your plans were for Christmas” Liz admitted, encouraged when she didn’t feel him tense up above her.

“Well…” Max returned. “That depends on you” he stated simply.

“What do you mean?” she asked, unsure.

“I mean, it depends on you” Max repeated and decided he needed to elaborate when he felt Liz’s hand still. “If you want to see your parents, then I’ll go see mine, if you wanna come with me, you can or if you want me to go with you, I will” he explained and didn’t have a chance to react before she pushed him away, using a force he never would have expected and attacked him with a thousand little kisses all over his body.

“You are… the… best… boyfriend in… the entire… world” she said, punctuating every word with kisses until she reached his erection which was already proud and at attention again. Without another word, she pumped him a few times before taking his large cock in her mouth and sucking until he moaned in ecstasy.

For the rest of the night, Liz and Max showed each other how much they loved one another and in between rounds, they stopped and talked about what they would do during the holidays, where they would visit and what it would be like.

Liz knew that seeing her parents could go one of two ways. They could accept Max and they’d all have a nice Christmas or they could choose to be difficult, in which case Liz had no idea what she would do. The one thing she was sure of was Max and that no matter what happened, he would still love her. That was enough to make Christmas a special time for Liz despite anything else that might come their way.

Thanks to Alex and his computer expertise, they surfed the web until they were finally able to exchange Liz’s first class ticket for two coach tickets to Baton Rouge. It was either that or fly in separate sections which Liz did not want to do. In her opinion, the bump down was well worth it.

“Can you believe this is the first holiday we’re spending apart?” Isabel asked from where she sat perched on Max’s desk chair. “What do you think mom and dad are gonna do without either of us around?” she wondered, unable to help the small feeling of guilt that bubbled forth at the thought of spending the holiday somewhere other than Roswell or Seattle.

Briefly looking up from his suitcase, Max offered his sister a small encouraging smile before he resumed his packing. As it was, he was more than a little nervous about meeting Liz’s parents, he was trying hard not to think about the possible disappointment his parents were feeling. “They’ll be fine Izzy” he said, all the while unsure of whether or not he would be.

“What are the Parkers like?” Isabel queried, deciding to get comfortable as she prepared for a long chat with her brother.

“High class… society oriented and if Liz wasn’t joking, slightly superficial” Max stated, earning a laugh from Isabel who sensed his unease. “I just want to make a good impression on them, you know?” he asked, realizing that if there was one person who would understand, it would be his sister. She also had a set of parents to meet and impress on her trip, he knew that she was just as nervous, she just hid it well.

“Well… I sort of get the impression that it doesn’t matter to Liz what they think” Isabel stated. “She loves you Max, she’s not gonna change her mind just because her parents may or may not approve. Deep down she’s too strong for that.”

“I know she is” Max acknowledged, taking some comfort in his sister’s words. “But it would make things easier on Liz if her parents did like me and approve of our relationship” he added, not wanting to put any extra pressure on his girlfriend. As it was, he knew that she wasn’t looking forward to the visit but really had no other choice in the matter.

“Well I better get going, I just wanted to drop these off” Isabel said and pulled two beautifully wrapped gifts from a large shoulder bag. “Merry Christmas big brother” she added with a kiss on the cheek. “Have fun.”

“You too” Max replied and accepted the carefully decorated packages. With one last hug for the siblings, Isabel walked out, leaving Max to finish the last of his last minute packing.

“You all set?”

Isabel looked up and smiled at the sight of Alex standing in her doorway, wearing a festive red sweater and an excited grin. While she was still feeling a little guilty about not spending the holiday with her family, she was glad that she could make her boyfriend happy by going with him to meet his family.

“All set” Isabel agreed and smiled her thanks when Alex took the suitcase from her hand, leaving her with the small, black leather carry on resting on the bed.

“What’d your dad say when you told him?” Kyle queried from his seat on the bed. He was nearly dizzy from watching Tess prance around the room, picking up one thing, putting away another until she was completely packed and ready to go.

“He was a little disappointed” Tess admitted with a shrug and forced casualness. “But he understood and promised to call me on Christmas day so… it’s fine” she added in a tone that plainly stated she was anything but fine. Kyle was actually tempted to call the airline right then and there and change their plans but a part of him truly believed the trip would be a good thing.

Tess had been holding on to the past for so long now and while he could understand it, he also believed it was time for her to let go of all the pain she was carrying around. He wanted to be the one to help her and hoped that she would let him.

Rising from the bed, Kyle came up behind Tess and wrapped his arms around her much smaller frame. With his lips hovering right beside her ear, he quietly whispered, “I love you Tess.”

It was the first time he had ever uttered those words to anyone. It was the first time he wanted to and he waited with bated breath, hoping that she would want to say those words back to him.

“What the hell is up with these gas prices lately?” Maria demanded, wearing a quizzical expression as she pulled up to the convenience store pumps. After hours, at least it seemed that way to Michael, all that was left was to fill up and get out of Boston before the roads became stacked.

Smartly, Michael chose not to reply, instead deciding to be a gentleman and offered to get out and fill up for her. Maria smiled gratefully and settled in comfortably, glad to stay in the warmth of the car instead of the freezing snow outside.

When she asked Michael whether or not he was going home, he had merely grunted that he never went home for the holidays. He wasn’t exactly forthcoming when it came to personal stories but for some unknown reason, he opened up and told finally told Maria what his home life was like.

Saddened and more than a little angry at his family, Maria invited him home to Philadelphia with her. Of course, Michael had been reluctant at first but after a quick call to Amy Deluca, the two women had managed to nag and convince him that he was more than wanted for the holidays.

Michael didn’t admit it, but Maria knew he was happy about going home with her and the truth was, she was really happy about it too.

Glad to read everyone was so glad with the double posts! A quick note to lamptrimmers and gazers, this chapter is strictly dreamer and candy but i'll throw the other two couples into the mix soon enough. Thanks to everyone for your feedback, it's always greatly appreciated!!!

Chapter 25

‘Whoa, what’s the hurry?” Maria asked, perplexed, as she watched Michael scurry out of the car and onto the sidewalk.

“I just wanna kiss the ground” Michael retorted dryly and quickly slammed the door shut. The drive from Boston during the Thanksgiving holidays had been a scary experience but this trip raised Michael’s level of fear to a new height. “I swear woman… you are not driving us back to the city” he stated firmly when Maria appeared by his side, accepting the hot pink duffle bag he handed her.

“How was I was supposed to know that eighteen wheeler was going to switch lanes at the last minute” Maria defended, wearing a childish pout that Michael couldn’t help but kiss.

“Come on, we’ll worry about our safety later” he replied and grabbed the last of their bags from the trunk.

“There’s my baby” a voice called out seconds before a body slammed into both Maria and Michael. Her arms quickly wrapped around them, holding them as close as she could while she continued to babble on about their late arrival, her worry and what a great time they were gonna have together.

“Calm down Mom, it hasn’t even been a month” Maria tried to pacify, though one look at her face plainly stated she was just as happy to see Amy as Amy was to see her.

“Well what are you waiting for, come inside before you catch a cold” she encouraged and grabbed one of the bags out of Michael’s hand. “Now” she repeated in a stricter, motherly tone and didn’t wait for their response before walking away.

She lived by a lake, a small body of water that was almost like a wide street, separating one section of houses from another. The grass was green despite the bitter chill and the trees were tall, providing shade and beautiful ambiance. Max imagined a little girl, petite with brown pigtails, running around in summer with a small smudge of dirt on her face. She was laughing, her eyes were shining brightly with mirth and she was happy.

Of all the stories he heard, there was only one that coincided with that image. Liz spending time with her grandmother Claudia.

“Is it at all what you pictured?” Liz queried, oblivious to where his thoughts had wandered to.

Turning his attention back to his nervous girlfriend, Max offered Liz a smile. “You left out a few details” he replied, his eyes drifting back to the water. “But it’s basically what I expected.”

“Come on… my mom’s probably staring at us through her bedroom window or something” Liz stated, rolling her eyes heavenward and nearly squealed out loud when Max pulled her tightly against his body. “What are you…hmm…” she moaned when his lips roughly caressed hers. The bags in their hands dropped to the ground, forgotten as both quickly got lost in the scorching kiss. “Wow, what was that for?”

“For loving you” Max replied, enjoying the dazed look in her eyes.

“Elizabeth Parker, I raised you better than to stand outside making out with a boy” Nancy Parker loudly hissed. “Get inside… now” she ordered and slammed the door behind her.

“And that incredibly warm woman was my mother” Liz drawled sarcastically and bent down beside Max to pick up their discarded luggage.

When Maria was six years old, Amy bought a small, used book store. The place was called, “Re-Read It” and when she started spending so much time there, the two moved to the large storage space on the second floor. Renovations had taken time but eventually, the finished product was a spacious, homey looking apartment which Amy still lived in.

“Michael, could you please help me in the kitchen?” Amy called out, effectively filling him with apprehension.

While Amy was nice and a very gracious hostess, she was also fiercely protective of her daughter. Michael understood this and even admired her for it but it didn’t mean she didn’t still scare the shit out of him.

“There you are” Amy said when he entered the small, brightly lit room. Three plates, a loaf of bread and various hams and cheeses were all laid out on the counter which was why it was no surprise to Michael when Amy handed him a large jar of pickles and asked him to please get ‘the damned thing open.’ “Thanks” she said gratefully and accepted the freshly opened jar. “Usually I just make one of the guys downstairs come up and do it for me but only girls are working today” she shrugged.

“It’s no problem” Michael asked, digging his hands into his pockets as he rocked back and forth on his heels.

“Well don’t just stand there” Amy quickly scolded though the amazing thing, at least to Michael, was that her eyes never turned away from her task. He wondered if all moms had that sixth sense or if Amy’s hawk eyes were just that keen. “Maria should be back in a few minutes and then we’ll all have lunch” she added flippantly, declining his offer to help with anything else.

As soon as they had gotten settled in, Maria had immediately rushed downstairs to say hi to Lonnie, the daytime manager and Lonnie’s precocious seven year old daughter, Mandy. Now, nearly an hour later, she had still yet to return.

“So tell me something Michael, why didn’t you want to go to San Francisco for the holidays… spend time with your family?” Amy questioned, causing Michael’s eyes to widen and butterflies to dance around in his stomach. “Not that I’m not glad to have you here” she quickly added when she turned and saw how nervous he looked. “It’s just that I enjoy having Maria around and I can’t imagine your parents were happy with your decision. I know I wouldn’t have been if the roles had been reversed.”

Unsure of what to say, Michael decided to just be as truthful as he could, excluding certain details that she just didn’t need to know.

“Well my family isn’t exactly like yours” he stated, offering the older woman a weak smile. “And my presence won’t be missed.”

Amy wasn’t sure why, but something about Michael made her feel sad. She could see in his eyes that whatever experience he past up on had not been a good one and she was proud of her daughter for convincing him to come and share their holiday. She, in turn, would make sure he enjoyed his time in Philadelphia and that he put whatever was plaguing him in the far depths of his mind.

“Well your presence here is wanted” Amy eventually stated, her tone just as firm and motherly as when she talked to Maria. “You’re always welcome in our home Michael… on the couch of course” she added, smiling brightly before turning back to chopping up tomatoes and lettuce for the sandwiches.

She could be scary, but something had shifted and Michael wasn’t so scared anymore.

“So tell me something about yourself Max” Nancy encouraged. She was being attentive and extremely polite but Liz wasn’t quite convinced that her mother’s intentions were altruistic. “Where did you grow up? What do your parents do for a living?” she asked, offering a polite smile when Liz gave her a scolding glare.

“I was born in Roswell and spent several years there before moving to Seattle” Max replied, oblivious to the staring matching going on between mother and daughter. “My mother is a law professor and my father is a…”

“Liz, what did you get in” Jeff Parker interrupted as he strolled into the room. He opened his arms, expecting Liz to run into them and seemed truly puzzled when she merely stood up and offered him a small hug in response. “You must be Max” he added, extending his hand in a firm handshake. “It’s good to meet you.”

“Thank you sir, for allowing me to spend the holiday in your home” Max returned just as politely.

The look Jeff wore was a clear indicator that he was impressed by the young man before him. Nancy, on the other hand, remained unreadable and just as difficult as Liz expected her to be. “If you’ll excuse us, I’m just gonna get Max settled in his room” Liz threw in before Nancy could resume her line of questioning. “We’ll see you later” she added and quickly pulled Max out of the room.

“Seems nice enough” Jeff commented the moment they were out of sight.

“Looks can be deceiving” Nancy replied just as candidly. “His presence is going to ruin the whole set up with David” she stated, aggravated and oblivious to the reprimanding look her husband shot in her direction.

“Hmm… Liz… we need to… need to stop” Max panted between kisses, unsuccessfully trying to get his body under control.

“No we don’t” Liz replied as she pushed the jacket from his shoulders and began working on his shirt buttons. She just wanted to get lost in him until he was the only thing on her mind.

“Yes… we do” Max stated firmly and gently placed his hands on her shoulders. “This isn’t about you and me, this is about them. As much as I love you and want to make love to you right now, you would be doing it for the wrong reasons. I don’t ever want what’s between us to be for the wrong reasons” he said quietly, trying hard not to hurt her but unwilling to be a distraction.

He was right, she knew it and his words sparked something within her, filling Liz with shame. “I’m sorry” she whispered and took a long step back. “I… I don’t ever want for you to think that I’m using you. I just… I don’t know” she trailed off uncertainly. “I hate this house, I hate being here because it all feels like one big lie” she confessed and allowed herself to be guided to the bed where both sat, facing one another.

“Why does it feel like a lie?” Max questioned and soothingly held her hand between both of his. He wanted to make her feel comfortable, wanted for her to know that no matter what, she could always trust him.

Liz shrugged helplessly as she tried to search for the words to explain her thoughts.

“This house… it’s huge, it’s beautiful and from every angle, it looks like this incredible family home. It looks like a mom and dad live here with their kids. It looks like wonderful memories were made here, wonderful dreams were had here but none of those things are real” Liz stated sadly. “This place isn’t a home, it’s a house. Nancy and Jeff Parker aren’t parents, they’re two people who had a child and I guess that I’m embarrassed by it.”

“I still don’t understand” Max admitted. “Your parents actions aren’t your fault so why are you the one that’s embarrassed?” he asked carefully.

“Because your family is incredible” Liz all but cried out. “Even divorced, your parents spend more time together than mine do. They care about you and Isabel so much that they worked through this whole holiday split thing so that everyone could be together. They’re just… amazing” she stated wistfully. “My parents may love each other, they might even love me too but no one would ever guess it the way I grew up.”

At a loss for words, Max did the only thing he could do.

“Come here” he said, pulling Liz close until she was sitting in his lap. “I love you” he whispered in her ear and tightly wrapped his arms around her smaller frame. “I’ll always love you” he murmured, holding her close as he felt tears soak through his shirt. “Always.”

Hi everyone! Thanks for the feedback, as always, it's greatly appreciated. I agree, Nancy does suck but don't worry, our dreamer couple is a strong one. Enjoy!!

Chapter 26

“So…” Alex whispered as soon as Isabel left the room. “What do you think of her?” he asked his father who sat wearing an amused grin. It was apparent that Gloria Whitman liked his girlfriend, the two sharing an interest in needlepoint and charity work, but Alex had yet to get an indication either way from his dad.

“She’s lovely” Charles replied, deciding to finally quit his teasing. “And incredibly sweet. Where did you say the two of you met?” he queried interestedly.

“A fund raiser for the Children’s Hospital” Alex answered easily, however, he was unable to wipe the pleased grin from his face. He knew that Isabel would be a hit and even told her so throughout the entire plane ride though it didn’t mean he wasn’t happy to have it verbally confirmed by his father.

“You’ve got it bad… don’t you?” Charles speculated, receiving a simple nod in return.

“You have no idea” Alex stated seriously.

Late at night, when the house was at rest and everyone inside it slept, Liz crept out of her room and quietly made her way down the hallway. Looking both ways first, she stopped at the last door and slowly pried it open. The room was dark, lit up only by the moon shining in through the large, bay windows.

“I hoped you wouldn’t leave me alone in here” Max whispered, effectively startling Liz.

She had expected him to be asleep and was actually a bit disappointed that she wouldn’t be able to tease him awake.

Rather than answer him, Liz walked across his room to the adjoining bathroom. Curious, he rolled onto his side, pillowing his head with his arm and tried to catch a glimpse of what she was doing. Moments later, the sound of running water filled his ears and a heavy steam wafted through the air.

“Aren’t you gonna join me?” Liz inquired as she appeared in the doorway with the steam wrapped around her naked body like some sort of ethereal halo.

Max didn’t need to be asked twice and quickly slipped out from between the cool sheets. “No clothes allowed in here” Liz stated and held a halting hand to his chest. Unable to resist, she playfully tweaked his nipples then cupped his thick erection in her hand before turning and strolling back into the bathroom.

A low growl emitted from Max’s throat as he rapidly shed his boxers and followed her inside. “Come here” he murmured and dragged her up against his body so that every inch of bare skin touched and caressed. “I love you” he whispered, seconds before his lips crashed against hers in a kiss filled with passion and raw emotion.

His actions spoke louder than any words could have in that instance. He poured everything, all his love for Liz into that one fiery kiss until she was left panting and completely aroused.

In one graceful move, Max swept Liz up into his arms and carried her to the bubble filled, garden tub. With her body wrapped around his, he sunk down into the warm, scented water and expelled a quiet groan of approval. “This feels like heaven” Liz purred and wiggled around on his lap until she got comfortable.

Max knew she was teasing him again silenced her amused giggles with another kiss. Liz leaned closer, wrapping her arms around his neck as their lips met in a sensual embrace.

The way he unconsciously pulled her closer… the almost inaudible groans he emitted… every touch, every caress made Liz feel beautiful. It was amazing how he could seduce her with such ease until she was putty in his hands. No guy had ever made Liz feel the way Max did, like a precious treasure to be revered.

“Max” she moaned softly as he raised his hands up, gently kneading her sensitive breasts. The pads of his thumbs rubbed across her nipples, causing a delicious shiver to race up her spine and wet heat to pool between her legs.

Unable to remain still, Liz began squirming around, inadvertently positioning herself directly above his erection. This time it was Max who groaned at the feel of her hot core rubbing enjoyably against his cock. “Baby, I need to be inside you” he whispered against her ear after kissing his way from her lips, down the smooth column of her throat.

Admittedly too caught up in the sensations his mouth created, Liz merely nodded her assent.

Strong hands lifted her up, then pulled her down on his thick and painfully hard cock. Both let out simultaneous sounds of pleasure at finally being joined. Their movements were slow at first, merely enjoying one another’s bodies until both were frustrated, desperately wanting and needing more.

“Max… oh god baby” Liz moaned and panted as he started to thrust up into her welcoming body.

Around them, water sloshed over the side of the tub though both were too consumed with one another to care. “Hmm…Liz, you feel so… so good baby” Max murmured and threw his head back in ecstasy as she began clenching her inner muscles tightly around his cock. “Fuck” he cursed and fused his mouth to hers as she started to bounce eagerly on his dick.

“Baby, I’m so close” Liz whimpered and all but cried out in relief when he lowered his hand to her clit and rubbed methodic circles around the aroused nub. Heat crept up her flushed body as she began to shiver in response to his ministrations. “Oh that’s it Max… I’m coming! MAX!” she called out in release as she came, holding his cock tight within her silken walls.

“God Liz…” he groaned and lowered his head to rest against her shoulder as she continued to move over him. He was close and several hard strokes later, he felt his balls tighten before his cock lengthened and exploded. Creamy spurts of thick cum bathed her walls and the feel of his cock twitching inside her caused Liz to cum a second time.

Breathless and panting, both stilled their movements until they were both leaning heavily against one another, each trying to calm their racing hearts. “You are… an incredible lover” Liz stated and felt her tense muscles slowly unknot in relaxation.

Tenderly, Max pushed the wet tendrils from her face, exposing her tired eyes and satisfied smile. “Baby, there aren’t even words to describe what you do to me” he replied and placed a simple, chaste kiss to her lips. “Love you” he murmured as she lowered her head to rest against his chest.

“Love you” she whispered and snuggled into his welcoming embrace. She didn’t care that they were still in the water and would be prunny by the time they got out. All that mattered was the comfort she felt, knowing that whatever happened with her parents, Max would remain by her side.

After all, what more do you need besides love?

“Are you seriously telling me that you have turkey TV dinners in place of an actual turkey or ham on Christmas day?” Tess questioned in disbelief. “Kyle!” she exclaimed when he simply shrugged and nodded.

“It’s not a big deal” Kyle stated in defense. “This is the first Christmas I’ve spent at home since high school and before that, my dad and I were fine eating our TV dinners and watching sports” he explained, still not seeing the problem. “Besides, turkey is for Thanksgiving” he added, immediately deciding that the last comment had been one step too far.

With an unreadable expression, Tess walked out only to appear a moment later with her coat and scarf in hand. “Keys” she demanded while holding her hand out expectantly.

“Don’t look at me” Jim stated, holding his hands out defensively. “Give her the keys” he advised and watched in amusement as his son scurried to retrieve them from inside his front pocket.

“I’ll be back in an hour. I expect this kitchen to be clean and organized by then” Tess instructed with a stern glance at both. “No exceptions” she added before placing a sweet kiss on Kyle’s cheek and flouncing out of the house.

“What do you think she’ll do if it isn’t clean?” Jim wondered aloud as he observed the dirty dishes in the sink, the leftover take out boxes and the bags of garbage littering one wall.

“Do you really wanna find out?” Kyle asked back as the two shared a brief look. By some silent agreement, both pushed off against the wall and quickly got to work.

For a moment, Liz allowed herself to be fooled by Nancy’s polite demeanor. She wanted to believe that her mom would finally be satisfied in the knowledge that her daughter was happy and quit trying to set her up and pawn her off to the highest bidder. After all, what mother wouldn’t want her child to feel content and satisfied with their life? Apparently Nancy was that rare parent that cared more about appearances than anything else.

She didn’t show her true colors at first. She played nice, pretended to be interested in everything Max had to say then smiled demurely at Liz whenever her daughter happened to observe her behavior.

She was a good actress, Liz had to give her that, but she was inconsistent and eventually let her real agenda slip.

“I don’t understand what you were thinking” Liz cried out in frustration. Pacing was doing nothing to calm her rapidly flaring temper and the unremorseful look Nancy wore only made it worse. “Did you even hear me when I said I was bringing my boyfriend home? Did you even listen when I asked… pleaded with you to just let your little plans go? God mother… did you really think I was just gonna forget about my boyfriend upstairs so that I could entertain whatever socialite’s son you arranged for me to go out with?” she demanded in a venom filled voice.

“I understand that you’re caught off guard but do not talk to me as though I am a child” Nancy retorted, briefly allowing her calm and controlled mask to slip. “Aside from being a bit ordinary, Max seems to care for you which is why I’m positive he’ll understand that spending time with David would be very beneficial for you.”

“On what planet?” Liz exclaimed, quickly loosing reign on the last vestiges of her control. “He is my boyfriend mother. He loves me” she argued. “I realize that the idea of someone loving me is a foreign concept for you but Max seems to do it with ease. I fail to see how he would understand your desire to pimp me off to some pretentious slime ball that probably has more money than morals.”

“Elizabeth, please quit being so dramatic” Nancy sighed tiredly as though she was the one being inconvenienced. “You’re holding on to stereotypes that are just no longer in place or valid. Just give David a chance” she implored while Liz sensed her mother was also quickly getting aggravated with the situation.

“You know what mother… if you think so highly of David, adopt him because after everything you’ve pulled in the last few days, you just lost your daughter” Liz stated with complete seriousness, unwilling to feel any guilt when she saw the surprise register in Nancy’s eyes.

Without another word, Liz turned and headed for the stairs, taking the steps two at a time until she reached the landing. Instinctively, she walked straight up to Max’s door and walked in. “Hey” he said and removed the headphones he wore. “This CD Alex made burned for me is so… hey, what’s wrong?” he asked at the sight of her looking so upset.

Unable to reply at first, Liz walked forward and threw her arms around Max. “I don’t wanna stay here anymore” she whispered against his neck and relished the feel of his strong arms around her… steadying her. “Can we please just go? I don’t care where, just… just as long as it’s not here” she implored and let out a long sigh of relief when she felt him nod against her.

“Of course baby… we can go wherever you want” Max stated surely as he continued to hold her close. Something was wrong, that much was apparent but somehow he knew that Liz didn’t want to talk about it… at least not now. There would be time for explanations later.

A half hour later, Max and Liz pulled out of the driveway in their rental car. They weren’t sure yet where they were going but didn’t worry about the details. No matter which city they choose or what state they were in, one fact would remain. They would be spending their Christmas together.

Hello!! Yes, Nancy does suck but we don't have to worry about her for now. Thanks everyone for your great feedback!!!! I'm truly glad that so many of you are enjoying this story. Hello lurkers as well! Okay, on with the story, Enjoy!

Chapter 27

The sound of the door hitting against the wall, followed by a tired grunt had both Kyle and Jim up from their seats and in the kitchen within a span of a few seconds. Quickly, Kyle relieved Tess of the turkey she precariously held in one arm while Jim reached for the remaining bags. “There’s a few more still outside” she added though rather than drop down in a chair, tired from her shopping excursion, Tess quickly got to work putting all the groceries away.

“I’ll get them” Jim volunteered, only to return a few moments later with bags of ornaments, tinsel and multicolored lights. “Tess darling, I hate to tell you this, but we don’t have a tree” he stated and took a quick step back in case she erupted.

“I know” Tess said simply. “But you will.”

“Honey, the lots are probably empty by now and even if they aren’t, what are the chances that we’ll find a decent tree, two days before Christmas?” Kyle felt the need to point out and only became more puzzled when she just smiled and went on with her tasks. “Tess… what are you so…” he trailed off when a knock sounded on their front door.

“Would you be a dear and get that?” Tess requested, all the while never turning away from the fridge and bag of vegetables she held in her hand.

“Um… yeah” Kyle agreed and made his way through the living room to open the door. Just as he wrenched it open, the person on the other end pushed in the door bell a third time. “What?” he asked the unfamiliar face a split second before he noticed the patch on the guy’s jacket.

“Yeah, I’m from Christmas Park” the guy stated. “Where do you want it?” he asked, hoisting forward a large Christmas tree that had to stand at least six feet up. Every pine needle looked perfect and it was the perfect, dark shade of green.

“Um… over uh… over there?” Kyle said, pointing towards an empty space beside the TV.

“It looks perfect” said Tess who appeared with Jim by her side. They all waited as the delivery guy positioned it to their liking and despite the surprise lurking in the males eyes, they couldn’t help but admire how great it looked… especially on such short notice. “Thanks Eric” she added and walked the delivery guy out. “And remember, science isn’t just…”

“For dorks” he finished with a smile. “Thanks Tess” he said, tipped his cap to the two men and strolled down the walk way, all the while whistling Jingle Bell Rock.

“Okay… what the hell was that?” Kyle asked, wearing a quizzical expression as he stared between Tess and the Christmas tree.

“Well… I went down to the Christmas tree lot and met Eric” Tess answered, not bothering to glance behind her as Kyle and Jim both followed her back into the kitchen. “He was working on some high school science project that’s due after the New Year and was having a lot of trouble with it. I just explained a few science properties that he needed as a basis and to show his appreciation, he offered to personally deliver the best tree they had on the lot” she explained with a simple shrug.

When she finally turned, she wore a brilliant smile that emphasized her shining eyes. Kyle felt his heart flutter and speed up at the sight looking so beautiful and so happy.

Tess had been melancholy since before the visit to the hospital and while he had hoped Christmas would cheer her up, he couldn’t describe how relieved he was to see her this way now. Once again, he was assaulted with the incredible desire to pull her close and show her just how much he loved her.

“Are you sure that your mom’s okay with this?” Liz asked, her voice laced with apprehension, as they drove past the “Entering New Mexico” sign.

“Yeah, positive” Max replied and offered Liz a quick, reassuring smile before turning his eyes back to the road. “She couldn’t have been happier and… I think she even convinced my dad to fly down in the company jet” he added, hoping that his excited words wouldn’t make Liz feel worse than she already did.

“Right… that’s great” Liz said, trying hard to sound enthusiastic while inside, her heart was painfully clenching.

For what felt like the millionth time, Liz wondered why Nancy couldn’t have been more understanding. She was angry at both her parents, her mom for attempting to set Liz up with another man while her boyfriend waited upstairs. Even after all the time past, Liz still had no idea what her mother had been thinking when she made the suggestion.

Then there was her father. Jeff Parker wasn’t a bad man and Liz did know for a fact that he did care for her, he was just horrible at showing it. However, his lack of affection wasn’t what angered her, it was his lack of spine that did. She was appalled that he just let Nancy go on, trying to play matchmaker when it was obvious he didn’t entire agree with his wife’s interference.

“Hey” Max said, grasping her hand in his. “I love you” he said, successfully pulling Liz out of the despair she had started to sink into.

“I love you too” Liz replied, deciding then and there to put the whole Baton Rouge experience behind her. It wasn’t Max’s fault that things had ended up the way they had and it wasn’t fair to spill her bad mood out on him. From this point on, she was gonna wear a smile and enjoy the time they had together.

“Ha… Boardwalk!” Isabel excitedly exclaimed. “You owe me… four hundred bucks” she told Alex, wearing a happy grin that momentarily took his breath away.

“Huh… oh, yeah. Here you go” Alex stated, handing Isabel the fee for landing on her house littered property.

Unbeknownst to either, Gloria and Charles Whitman shared a look over the board. Both realized just how in love their son was with the beautiful blonde and neither could be happier. They were glad that Alex had found such a sweet girl who obviously cared very much about him.

“Looks like I’m up” Gloria stated, accepting the dice her son handed him.

Roll after roll, the game continued until both Alex and his mother were bankrupt, leaving Charles and Isabel to battle it out. “Come on seven” he said before letting the dice loose, hoping for the one number that would get him safely past all of Isabel’s properties. “Damn” he swore as the three and two stared up at him.

“What’s the damage?” Alex questioned as he leaned over to peek at Isabel’s property cards.

“Tell me Mr. Whitman” Isabel stated with a sweet smile. “Do you feel lucky?” she asked and exposed her deed card to Pennsylvania Ave.

Needless to say, the game ended shortly after that.

Late at night, Michael was roughly brought out of his sleep by an insistent shaking. “What the… Maria” he said as her face slowly swam into focus. “What’s up?” he asked as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

“Come on” she whispered, not giving him time to protest before she promptly tugged on his arm and walked off.

Slightly dazed, Michael looked around him, almost expecting Amy to pop out and scold him for even considering following Maria into her room. Patiently, he waited and when, moments later, there was still no sign of a parent, Michael pushed his blankets aside and quietly went to find his crazy girlfriend.

“Maria” he hissed loudly when he walked into her room and found it empty.

“Out here” Michael heard and slowly walked over to the windowsill, puzzled as to why Maria was sitting out on her balcony when the temperature was below freezing.

“What the hell are doing out there?” he asked and shook his head when she gestured to follow her out.

“Michael… please” Maria requested and flirtatiously batted her eyelashes. “Thank you” she added with a wide grin when he pulled himself through the window, muttering the whole time about crazy, blonde girlfriends. “Quick” she encouraged and held open her blanket, squealing when his cold body pressed up against hers.

It was then, that Michael noticed what an elaborate set up Maria had put together. A double-wide lawn chair rested against one wall, covered with several thick blankets and one long pillow. At least a dozen candles had been set up one the little chair-side table and the balcony ledge. “What is all this?” he softly queried.

“This… is a memory we’re about to make” Maria replied just as softly. “Come on” she said and led Michael by the hand to the lawn chair.

Just as a windy chill swept through the air, the two quickly scurried beneath the other blankets and huddled together for warmth. “This memory doesn’t have anything to do with frostbite, does it?” Michael wondered and received a pinch on his side and mock angry huff from Maria.

“No, it doesn’t” she stated primly though the way she snuggled closer to his body bellied the defensiveness in her tone. “I just wanted to sit out here, watching the sky before the snow falls and enjoy being with you. I wanted you to see that Christmas can be magical and… and wonderful” she murmured and placed several little kisses to Michael’s neck.

“Do you seriously wanna have sex out here, in the freezing cold?” Michael asked in disbelief when he felt her hands roam lower and lower. “Screw it, gotta keep warm somehow” he stated and quickly shifted so that Maria was pinned beneath him. In no time at all, he had fused their mouths together in a fiery kisses that left both completely aroused.

With one hand, Michael easily undid the buttons on Maria’s pajama top while she worked her hands up and down his spine, enjoying the way he shivered above her. “God Michael” she moaned as he trailed his kisses down and expertly swirled his tongue around one stiffened nipple. Maria felt her arousal pool between her legs and shamelessly wiggled around beneath him, desperately trying to relieve the ache his kisses caused.

“Shhh…” Michael whispered as he switched from one breast to the other. He sucked her nipple into a hard peak, gently scraping his teeth around it until she was whimpering for more.

Frantically, the two pushed at their clothes until Michael’s cock sprang out from his sweatpants and Maria’s pajama bottoms were down around her ankles. “Fuck” Maria swore as he used the tip of his cock to tease her pussy, coating it with her juices as he dipped in and out of her wet hole. “Baby… oh god… now” she demanded and cupped his ass, causing him to thrust deep inside her wet depths.

Both groaned at the incredible feel of her wet heat, grasping and holding him tight. Slowly, they began to move, setting their own rhythm as their sighs and moans of pleasure were lost in the windy night. “Baby you feel so tight…” Michael panted as Maria arched up, causing his dick to sink deep inside her with every thrust.

“Faster Michael… please” Maria begged.

She was writhing around beneath, her eyes closed in passion and her mouth opened in a silent cry of ecstasy. Michael thought he had never seen a more beautiful picture than the one she made.

With his hands grasping hers, pinning her arms above her head, Michael continued his deep strokes and groaned as her pussy stretched and held him each time he pulled out. “Harder baby… oh god… I’m so close” Maria whimpered and raised her hips to meet his thrusts.

Michael lowered his lips to her neck, sucking gently as he trailed one hand down to her clit. The sensations were too much and Maria instantly came, moaning loudly against Michael’s shoulder as his cock continued to pierce her slick opening. “God Maria…ah…” Michael groaned as he easily slid in and out of her wet heat.

“Just let go” Maria whispered against his ear and nipped the sensitive lobe.

Michael buried his face against Maria’s neck as he pushed faster and harder inside her. He continued to fuck her until the pleasure became too much and he came, shooting a wad of cum into her drenched pussy. “Maria” he groaned and felt her bite down on his shoulder as she came a second time.

“If all our memories are like this… let’s make some more” Michael stated when his cock remained hard and he slowly began to move again.

“Yes… please yes” Maria moaned.

Suddenly, neither was too concerned by the cold weather nor did they notice that all the candles had long since, burnt out.

Chapter 28

“Max… sweetie, take my keys and go pick your father up from the airport” Diane requested, briefly glancing up from her vegetable cutting to offer her son an appreciative smile. “Oh Liz, I was hoping you’d stay and help me with dinner” she added when Liz instinctively rose to follow Max out.

Taking a quick look between the two, Liz shot Max a reassuring smile before returning to her bar stool. “Sure Diane, what do you need help with?” Liz asked and accepted the cucumber and peeler handed to her.

Diligently, the two worked in silence for several minutes before Diane chanced a quick look towards the young brunette. “You know, I was very happy when Max told me the two of you would be joining me this Christmas” she tentatively began. “Though I have to admit to knowing a bit about the reason behind your change in plans” she candidly stated.

“What did uh… what did Max tell you?” Liz questioned, all the while never looking away from her task.

A part of Liz was a bit relieved that Max had said something to his mother but another part of her was embarrassed and ashamed. The differences between Nancy Parker and Diane Evans were vast and numerous. It was noticeable during her first meeting with the older woman but it had never been more apparent as it currently was.

“He just mentioned that there were some problems with your mother” she answered discretely. “But… Liz, I don’t want you to feel… strange about any of this. The truth is, I know what it’s like” Diane admitted, causing Liz to finally look up and meet her gaze.

“I don’t understand what you mean” Liz stated and focused her attention on the other woman who promptly did the same.

“Well… has Max ever mentioned anything to you about his grandmother Alison?” Diane questioned after a quick moment’s pause. The strange thing, at least to Liz, was that as she looked at Diane, the older woman wore the same expression that often marred her own face when talking about her parents, or home.

“No” Liz shook her head after failing to recall any time where Max had mentioned the name or anything about either grandmother.

“I didn’t figure he would” Diane replied. “Neither he nor Isabel know very much about her. See, I come from a very wealthy background, complete with a trust fund, social contacts and more responsibilities than I cared to have. My mother, Alison, was very concerned with appearances and bringing me up to be the perfect lady. She wanted me to be smart enough to play hostess but dumb enough that I wasn’t a threat to my husband’s intelligence which, to be honest, didn’t sit well with me at all.”

Liz was amazed at how much Diane’s story sounded like her own. Briefly, she tried to remember if she had ever heard Diane’s maiden name in social circles before and vaguely recalled an old southern belle who had past away when she was barely ten. If memory served, Liz remembered the old socialite died alone after having a heart attack though no one knew what happened to her money since she didn’t appear to have any heirs.

“She disagreed with all my choices, fought me to the end of every one and… and the truth is that she played a big part in my divorce to Philip” Diane sadly confessed. “I always prided myself a strong person but when it came down to it… I just couldn’t fight her anymore. She was… sick and old and even in her declining health she was still a force to be reckoned with. She got to go to her grave knowing that in the end, she had finally succeeded and got to see my and Philip apart and at each other’s throats.”

Instinctively, Liz slid from her seat and tentatively enveloped the older woman into a comforting embrace. She understood the sadness that came with Diane’s words and truly sympathized, suspecting that she was possibly the only person who could understand.

“I’m sorry” Diane quickly apologized as she pulled away and wiped her tears. “Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that I may not know your story, but I do know where you’re coming from… if you wanna talk” she offered with a small smile and continued cutting her vegetables.

For the first time, it struck Liz that Max’s mother was still in love with his father.

“Tell you what kids, since the two of you worked on dinner, I’ll take care of the dishes” Jim volunteered once the last forkful of roast beef was eaten and the mashed potato bowl was emptied.

“Are you sure?” Tess asked at the same time Kyle said, “Thanks dad.”

“No problem son” Jim laughed as Kyle dragged Tess out of the room.

As far as he was concerned, Tess already was a part of the family. It wasn’t something he could put his finger on, but there was something about the young blonde that evoked his paternal instincts. She was sweet, smart and it was obvious how enamored his son was with her. Jim believed Kyle couldn’t have picked a better girlfriend.

“Hey” Liz said with a sleepy smile as Max slid into bed beside her. “Did you have fun?” she asked and snuggled against his body, enjoying the feel of his strong arms wrapped around her from behind.

After dinner, Philip announced that the two had an old score to settle. Liz was completely in the dark though the smile Diane wore was amused and a bit exasperated. Five minutes of competitive banter later, Liz learned that Max and his father always got together at some little Mexican/Chinese restaurant to play pool.

Apparently the competition had been going on since Max was old enough to see over the table and remained ongoing since neither was willing to accept defeat without the prospect of a rematch.

“I beat him, three to one” Max replied, making it impossible to miss the smugness in his voice or the smile against her skin. “The last one was a pity one though. If I hadn’t let him win, we would still be there now” he added, sounding genuinely amused over the whole thing. “So… what about you? What’d you do while I was gone?” he asked.

“I took a long, hot bath” Liz seductively drawled. “Then I got into bed… naked, and thought about you while I touched myself.”

As she felt his arousal press against her back, Liz wasn’t sure whether to giggle or moan.

“After I used my hands to make myself cum, I put on one of your t-shirts so that I could pretend you were here with me when I fell asleep” she whispered and emitted a small gasp of pleasure as Max trailed one hand up beneath the shirt. Expertly, he cupped the fullness of one breast in his hand, caressing and gently tugging on her nipple.

With her head thrown back, resting against his shoulder, Liz became lost in the incredible sensations and didn’t realize the path his other hand took until it was inside her panties with two fingers buried in her wet core. “Max” she sighed as he slowly pumped them in and out of her welcoming body.

“Yes Kyle… harder baby… harder” Tess demanded and allowed her eyes to close in bliss when her wonderfully built boyfriend began to thrust faster into her dripping wet pussy. “Oh that feels so good” she panted when he pushed her legs farther apart, opening her up completely to him.

“You feel so good” Kyle replied and lowered his hand to rub fast circles against her clit. “Oh fuck… you’re so wet baby” he said and easily slid in and out, filling and stretching her pleasurably.

Unable to resist, he leaned forward and sucked one pert nipple into his mouth. “Oh god Kyle” Tess whimpered and frantically bucked up against him, trying to get as close as possible. “Baby… fuck me… please fuck me” she whispered in his ear and bit down hard on her lip as she came, clenching so tightly around him that it was impossible for Kyle hold out.

“Baby, I’m so close” Liz moaned and raised her hands to her head, pulling on her own hair as she writhed around beneath him.

Max seemed to take that as a personal challenge and attached his mouth to her clit, sucking, allowing his teeth to gently scrape the sensitive bud while his fingers continued their thrusting. “Oh god” Liz groaned as she shivered and shook with pleasure. “Max!” she hissed loudly and released a river of juices for him to greedily lap up.

Pleasured, unintelligible sounds escaped Kyle’s mouth as Tess continued to bob her mouth up and down over his painfully hard cock. Of their own volition, his hands buried themselves in her bouncy blonde curls, holding her in place as his hips began to buck up.

Spurred on, Tess sucked harder, tasting herself on his dick while he continued to fuck her mouth.

Teasingly, she tugged his balls and enjoyed the hot cum that slid down her throat. Her name was like a mantra on his lips, filling Tess with a deep sense of satisfaction.

“Yes baby…harder Max… oh god, please don’t stop!” Liz groaned and dug the heels of her hands in the bed as she roughly pushed back against him. Hands on her hips, Max thrust at a rapid pace, quickly bringing both to the brink of ecstasy. “Ah… yes! Max!!”

While she shook in satisfaction, Max pulled out and flipped Liz onto her back.

“Liz” Max groaned as he sunk into her silken wet depths. “How do you want it?” he asked, beginning at a torturously slow pace. He was teasing her, driving himself crazy in the process but he refused to speed up until she lost control and asked him to. “How do you want it?” he repeated and nipped at the smooth skin of her neck, eliciting another aroused moan of enjoyment.

“Fast…” Liz panted and pulled his mouth down to hers for an earth shattering kiss. “Hard and fast.”

“Good” was the last thing Max said before he began fucking her all over again. Sweat slicked their bodies as both worked to bring the other to completion. Fast… he thrust inside her, seeing with an approving groan how her juices coated his cock. Hard… he thrust, rubbing up against her clit with every stroke.

“Ah… Max… oh that’s it baby… harder” she pleaded and tightly grasped his arms for support when he complied. Pants, moans and sated sounds of pleasure filled the quiet air. Quietly, Max whispered dirty words and endearments in Liz’s ear, causing their desire to spike until it was too much and both went over. Their names were sighs… quiet whimpers of ecstasy as they came.

Tired, both fell back against the mattress. They were hot, sweaty and deeply satisfied. Fortunately, Max’s bedroom was on the other side of the large house, a fact he had never been more thankful for before.

Christmas morning, Isabel was up early, bouncing around the Whitman house making hot chocolate and humming carols. “I figured that was you” Alex said as he stumbled into the kitchen, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “What are you doing up so early? The sun isn’t even out yet” he commented, missing the grin that adorned Isabel’s face as she took in his appearance.

With his hair all mussed up, eyes bleary and a hint of stumble on his chin, Isabel wondered how he could look cute and sexy at the same time. “Here you go baby” Isabel offered and handed him a mug of cocoa.

“Morning” Gloria Whitman greeted, emitting a small yawn before offering both a pleasant smile.

After an anxious ten minutes, Isabel finally convinced everyone, including a half asleep Charles, to gather around the tree to sip chocolate and open presents.

Chapter 29

“I can’t wait to try those out” Max stated as he lay back on his bed and watched Liz pack away her Christmas gifts.

After a relatively early morning, the group had a late lunch then decided to separate for a while. Liz decided that Isabel must have picked up her penchant for charity work from Diane who made her rounds, visiting the hospital and then an old folks home. Philip, on the other hand, seemed squeamish about the hospital but was unable to get out of a trip there once Diane put her foot down.

As they talked and laughed together, Liz found herself observing the pair, trying to figure out whether Philip felt as strongly towards his ex wife as she obviously felt towards him. There were times, she noticed, when Diane would turn away and Philip would continue to stare at her. Sometimes it lasted a couple seconds before he quickly turned away but other times he didn’t seem to be in such a big hurry to hide the affectionate looks.

Liz was tempted to talk to Max about it but figured it was best not to… at least not yet. From what she understood, the divorce had been messy and painful for everyone involved. Liz decided that there was no point saying anything since she really didn’t have anything, besides a few loving expressions, as concrete proof.

“I am going to kill Serena for these” Liz stated as she remembered how mortified she had been to find a pair of sex dice as her Secret Santa gift. Both Philip and Diane had easily accepted that it was a silly gag gift from her sorority sister but it was embarrassing all the same.

Before Max could respond, a knock sounded on the door. “Can I come in?” Philip asked from the other side.

“Yeah” Max called out, stifling his smirk when Liz, again, attempted to hide the plush dice.

“Am I interrupting anything?” he asked and received simultaneous nods from both. “Actually, would you excuse us for a moment Liz? I just wanted a few minutes with Max please” Philip requested, offering Liz a polite smile.

“Sure Mr. Evans…Philip” Liz complied and left the two alone.

“Oh my god… I totally forgot… forgot about that one” Maria panted in between laughs. Her face was turning a bright shade of pink as tears of mirth slipped from her eyes. “Urg! That was so…”

“…and then you… and with the… remember?” Lonnie cried out before she burst into another fit of giggles.

In between them, Michael was confused and thought everyone in the room was crazy. He was also having the best time.

After a long day spent opening gifts, cooking, drinking, eating, watching TV, eating, then drinking and eating some more, the group was louder and more boisterous than ever. One story after another was told while everyone else laughed along or threw in their own version of events.

Apparently Lonnie and her daughter had spent several Christmases with the Deluca women and while a part of Michael felt a bit out of place with all the women, he was also really enjoying listening to them talk about all the silly, ridiculous and downright crazy things they had done at one time or another.

“You know what we need?” Mandy asked with a look of complete seriousness on her face. “Chocolate cream pie” she stated and proceeded to lick her lips hungrily. Briefly, Michael wondered how they all didn’t weigh three hundred pounds with all the food they consumed and quickly waved his hands in protest when they offered him a slice.

“It’s good” Maria stated with her mouth full. “But it’s missing something.”

“Chocolate syrup, I’m on it” Amy offered.

“And whip cream” Lonnie added and followed Mrs. Deluca out.

“And the crushed cookies for the top” Mandy called out before hurrying after her mom.

“So what do you think so far?” Maria asked, unaware that Michael’s gaze had centered on her mouth as she licked the chocolate from her spoon. “Are we fun or are we fun?”

“I think you’re all crazy” Michael bluntly opined. “But… I have to admit that it’s been pretty fun” he went on to confess. “I guess I never realized before that drunken people could actually laugh and talk instead of… well… anyway” he said and quickly turned away. He hadn’t meant to bring up his own past and also didn’t want to bring Maria down from her good mood.

“Hey” Maria said and stubbornly turned Michael’s s chin until he faced her. “I’m glad you’re having a good time but please don’t be embarrassed by your past. I love you, okay?”

Michael nodded once with a small smile. “I love you too” he murmured and just as the two leaned in they were assaulted by a cold spray of canned whip cream.

“Oh that’s it… you’re all in trouble now” Maria leapt up and declared. Michael let loose a loud boisterous laugh as his crazy girlfriend chased around her equally crazy family.

“Diane… are you okay?” Liz tentatively asked at the sight of Max’s mother openly crying.

After leaving Max to talk with his dad, Liz decided to make herself a cup of tea and was wandering around the house when she caught sight of Diane sitting out on the porch swing. Her first instinct was to just leave the older woman to her silence when she noticed the way Diane’s shoulders were shaking.

“I’m fine” Diane answered with a weak smile as she quickly tried to wipe her tears away. “Did you need something?” she asked and Liz realized it was just her way of trying to change the subject. While she was inclined to let her, Liz thought back to the information Diane had shared about her own past in an effort to help so Liz decided it was time to return the favor.

“Do you?” Liz asked instead and watched, baffled, as Diane began to cry all over again.

This time Liz didn’t hesitate to hurry forward and pull the older woman into her embrace. It seemed as though that one action was enough to break her and tears continued to fall like river from her eyes. Liz felt them soak her shirt but pushed past it in favor of providing comfort.

“God, I’m so sorry” Diane quickly apologized once she had her emotions under control. “I’m just… acting like a silly school. It was just such a big surprise and I… well I guess I’m just over reacting.”

Liz was more confused than ever but chose not to ask any questions when Diane appeared to mentally be working through everything. Briefly, Liz couldn’t help but wonder whether or not the cause for her tears had anything to do with Philip’s desire to have a private discussion with Max.

“It’s just that when he told me he was leaving, I just…”

“You mean he’s going back to Seattle earlier than the end of the week?” Liz tried to clarify and watched the confusion fill Diane’s eyes.

“What… oh, no that’s not what I meant” Diane replied as she tried a second time to wipe her tears away. “Philip has an opportunity to spend a year in Europe. See, his company wants to go global and they’re sending five of their executives out to get the ball rolling” she explained which made a lot more sense to Liz. “He’s really excited about it and the truth is, there really isn’t anything to hold him back from taking the position” she continued as though talking to herself. “Max and Isabel are grown up and now and… and there’s nothing to hold him back.”

“Except a wonderful woman who’s still in love with him” Liz stated which effectively halted Diane in place.

As Jim and Kyle sat parked on their couch, transfixed by the ESPN highlights, Tess sat up in his room and stared out at the rapidly darkening sky. Silent tears rolled down her eyes though this time, they weren’t tears of sadness. In her hand she held a beautiful silver locket which was the source of her tears and her happiness.

“It’s too early in the morning” Tess declared as she rolled over and away from Kyle’s insistent prodding. “Urg!” she all but screamed and burst into uncontrollable laughter when her persistent boyfriend decided it would be funny to tickle her hysterical.

He waited until she was breathing hard and gasping for air before finally relenting. “Now… you’re gonna sit up like a good girlfriend and open your present” he stated confidently and promptly ignored the glower Tess shot him for his tone. “Here” he offered and held out a messily wrapped gift box.

Despite her previous protests, Tess couldn’t hold in the brilliant smile that lit her face as she accepted red box.

Whatever she could have expected didn’t even compare to the actual gift she received from Kyle. “I called your dad and he sent me the picture” Kyle explained and watched with baited breath as Tess opened the beautiful heart. Inside were two pictures that could have been the same person had it not been for the style of clothes and slightly lighter hair.

“Oh my god” she gasped as she stared down at hers and her mother’s portrait.

Both women had curly blonde hair and vivid blue eyes. Their skin was light like peaches and cream and both wore identical smiles. “She was really beautiful” he commented. “You also look just like her.”

“Kyle, I… thank you” Tess whispered with a soft smile on her face. “Would you…?”

“Yeah, of course” Kyle agreed and waited for Tess to lift her hair before clasping the locket around her neck. “Do you like it?” he asked tentatively and while he wasn’t surprised by her answer, he was surprised by what else she said.

“I love it. I love you.”

He had given those words to her more than once but that morning had been the first time she had given them back.

“It doesn’t matter how I feel Liz” argued Diane with decisive adamancy. “I hurt Philip. I allowed someone to get in between our marriage until there was nothing left but bickering and hatred. I put him through hell and frankly, I don’t think it’s something he’ll ever get over” she sadly admitted.

“Well… I won’t act or pretend to know anything about what you went through” Liz began. “But if there’s one thing I’ve learned from Max, it’s that more often than not, love is enough” she stated with a soft smile as she thought about all the incredible things her boyfriend made her feel. She truly believed he was everything and more.

“Well I’m glad to hear you feel that way because I know Max would agree with you but… I’m afraid that things are different for me and Philip” Diane quietly informed. “We have too much… baggage. Too much time has past and too much has happened and…”

“And you’re never gonna know unless you tell him how you feel” Liz interrupted before Diane could give her one other reason why it wouldn’t work out. “I’m not trying to pressure you and I don’t want it to seem that way but… but he’s gonna go away and unless you say something now, you might never get the chance to later” she stated with a sympathetic smile.

Diane nodded as she watched Liz walk away. It was definitely something to think about.

Two days later, Max and Liz flew back to Boston. He mentioned his father’s plans though he didn’t have much to say about it. Liz knew that he wasn’t very excited about the move either and tried to just be there for him and listen whenever he had something to say. She didn’t mention the talk she had with Diane, per her request, though the older blonde assured Liz that one way or another, Max would know something soon.

It was her way of telling the younger girl that she had made a decision. She was gonna talk to Philip and see how it worked out.
