Chapter One
2020
Liz ached all over. She had walked and sobbed tearlessly the whole way from the Pod Chamber. The truth hurt, but at least it was out there. Pushing the door to the CrashDown open, the chimes played their tacky tune, but Liz welcomed the normal, ordinary sound, glad that bit of structure in her life still remained.
Sighing, she watched the usual throng of tourists order the uniquely named food, the quiet hum of chatter, discussing where the aliens where among them. At least she was getting away for the summer. Maybe the others would come. The others like her that was.
And there they were. Laughing and joking with each other, so comfortable, they could have all been siblings. However, the most certainly weren’t. Great friends, who probably had four sets of parents each because of their closeness. That thought made Liz chuckle slightly. The Sheriff Jim Valenti as her father? That truly was funny.
Opening the door to the kitchen, she saw her father working the grill, looking like he was about to take a break. Waiting for a few moments, she kissed him on the cheek, and led him to his office, where she made him a cup of black coffee, before sitting him on his chair, sitting upon his lap and clasping her hands around his neck. Jeff laughed.
“So, Lizzie, what can I help you with?”
“Well, Daddy, I was wondering… Could I skip my shift tonight, and sleepover at Ria’s house? Alex and Kyle would be there too, but you know that we’re too close for any of that. They’re my brothers.”
Jeff pondered this momentarily, making his daughter believe he was going to make her work the shift and leave afterward; after all the fun had begun. Liz pouted and the office door opened, and Nancy Parker entered. She already knew about the night, and had given her permission, but Jeff would be angry if Liz had gone on her mother’s word alone.
“Come on Jeff. This way we can go see that movie without worrying about Liz.”
That had done it for the father. He nodded happily and Liz hugged him harder then before, kissing him on the cheek.
“Thanks Daddy!”

Isabel frowned. It was not something she usually did, as a smile attracts more attention from a male, but today, like most days of recent times, it was the one she favoured more. Looking toward Tess, Michael and her brother, she felt a certain amount of sadness envelope her for the petite brunette that was Liz.
But with the newest revelation, they needed to stick together. If their enemies had really been alerted, then they could be attacked at any time. And that old saying popped into her head. “United we stand, apart we fall.”
Isabel knew her parents wouldn’t mind if Tess and Michael came to watch movies that night. After all, they were going out anyway, so it wasn’t as if they would be in anyone’s way.
“Tess, Michael, wanna come watch movies and hang tonight? My parents are out, and I figure we could use the talk.”
Michael, who had no parents, raised a lone eyebrow but nodded none-the-less. Tess nodded and gave a small smile, knowing that she probably wasn’t high on the favourite person’s list, even though it was not her fault.
“That’s settled then. Be at the house by sundown, ‘kay?”

The Sun was on the horizon, setting the day, and welcoming the night and the moon to take over guidance of weary travellers here, whilst the Sun took over where the moon had just watched over. The only thing that happened day in and day out. The only thing that had continued like clock-work; after the Pulse.
Liz hopped out of her car, and slung her back over her back. She bounced out from her car toward the door of the home, back to her friends.
Timidly, she knocked on the door. It burst open, Alex and Maria; their usual quirky selves pulled her into the house, laughing as if they were hyper. Liz spotted an empty orangeade bottle and knew that they probably were.
“Kyle not here yet? Or is he not coming?” Liz asked after her ex. Sure, it sounded strange, but that was how it went. All four had been so close that it had been bound to happen. So two of them mistook friendship for something more. Not like anything happened.
Maria burst into a fit of giggles, and Alex being Alex, erupted into laughter behind her. Liz soon found out why. Kyle came bounding down the stairs in his boxers and a tee-shirt. Liz smiled at him. She knew the revelations about the aliens had been hard, but they’d been through worse.
“I’ll just go and get changed then. Kyle, for the love of Mary, don’t let them drink any more sugar or caffeine. Or eat it. At least until we’re at their level, ‘k?”
Kyle gave a light chuckle and nodded at Liz. He was the eldest amongst them, with Maria being the youngest. Alex and Liz, the middle-children in their delusional “family”, Liz slightly elder than Alex, by about a half year.
Kyle was deep into his personal musings when Liz came back down to the chortling harpies. Liz sat down next to him, pulled the cover over them and smiled at him. She placed her head on his shoulder and sighed. She knew Kyle understood why they had not included him in the aliens. It was like… Like nothing before, but he understood.
“So what’s the first movie then?” Kyle and Alex, whom had finally calmed down asked at the same time. Liz and Maria began to laugh again, and the boys joined in. This was the way Amy found them when she went to tell them that she was leaving. But she didn’t have the hurt to break them up. Instead she closed the door loud enough for them to hear.

They had been watching a film on one of the many movie channels that they had. Like most people in Roswell, they had kept their money in a safe, so that when the Pulse wiped out everyone’s bank balances, they had kept all of their money and luxury.
Whilst watching the movie, Die Hard 4, something or someone cut through the broadcast.
“Do not attempt to adjust your set. This is a streaming freedom video bulletin. The cable hack will last exactly 60 seconds. It cannot be traced, it cannot be stopped and it is the only free voice left in America. Usually, these hacks are kept within Seattle, but today, I must reach out to others. Those of you, who recognise “X-5” and this symbol” A Manticore lion flashes onto the screen, “Are all in danger. Zack, Max, Krit and Syl have been captured and your safety has now been compromised. Lay low. This has been a streaming freedom video bulletin. Peace. Out.”
Three heads suddenly turned to view the other.
“What do we do?”
“We go to Seattle. We find him. We get his information on the capture. Zack’s not the only one who’s been watching everyone, is he?”
