Hey guys. I'm so glad you liked the notebook. The whole idea of soulmates applied to Noah and Allie and Max and Liz so I thought it would be a good way for Ryan to bring up the soul mate conversation. I am glad you all like Ryan. You are supposed to like him. A lot of times in Fics Max comes back and the guy Liz is with is an Ass so you are like she is so better off with Max. I thought it would be interesting to throw in this really good guy and see how that played out. So feel free to like him. lol.

Also I realized that I never mentioned Tess son's name and it is Jamie. So when they talk about jamie in this part that is who they are refering to. So here is the next part. It transitions a bit but it will lead to the big pay off in the next part.

Till we meet again

Michael and Isabel walked into the house where the Pod squad was staying.

Max, Tess and Serena were sitting in the living room watching TV.

“This thing you call a television is hilarious. It is much funnier than the gammatron that we have back on Antar. My mother told me about these shows.”

She was currently watching a TV land Marathon of Happy Days.

“Yeah, well they have been in a state of unrest for the last 50 years. I’m sure Kivar’s programs weren’t so great to watch.” Max said.

“You’re right. They were all about him.” She said.

“Give them a few years. I’m sure they will catch up.” He added.

“We should market this. They will love it.”

Before Max could respond Isabel walked into the room and threw herself dramatically on the couch.

Max looked at his sister.

“I take it things didn’t go very well with Maria.”

“Oh things went fine with Maria.” Michael answered for her.

“Then what’s wrong? Did something else happen?”

Isabel just stared at her brother.

Michael put a smirk on his face.

“Nothing major, Isabel just stuck her foot in her mouth.”

Isabel glared at him.

“I’m lost.” Tess said.

“Michael’s right things were great. I got to meet Mikayla and spend time with her. She is a really special girl.”

“That shouldn’t surprise you look at who her Father is.” Michael said with pride.

Isabel was the one with the smirk now.

“In spite of who her father is.”

“Whatever, get to the good stuff.” Michael grumbled.

She glared at him again and thought about using her powers to zap him but thought better of it.

“Everything was great until Alex came by.”

Serena had now stopped watching the TV and was paying attention to Isabel.

“I thought that things were ok between you and Alex when you left.” She said. She knew about the couples histories and she thought it was Tess and Max’s relationships that were the big problem

“We were.”

She sighed deeply. There was no sugarcoating her stupidity.

“Alex made it so that there are no records of us anywhere in the government, not FBI, not CIA no where.”

“That’s great Isabel!” Tess said excitedly.

She was so happy her son would be safe from the government.

“Why is this a bad thing?” Max asked

“It’s not. Alex did it so that if we ever came back we could have a normal life, I could be normal.”

“How did he manage it?” Tess asked.

“Apparently he created an impenetrable computer security system that he sold to the government and in order to install it he had access to all of their files.”

“Wow he did that for you? He must really love you. If they had caught him who knows what they would have done.” Serena said.

Isabel knew she was right and that made it even worse.

“I still don’t get what the problem is.” Max stated worried by the pained look on his sister’s face.

“Ask Isabel how she responded to Alex when she found out about his involvement with the government.” Michael snickered.

He found the whole thing quite amusing. He knew that Alex wouldn’t stay mad at Isabel and so he was just having a little fun.

“I accused him of joining the FBI because he hated us.” She mumbled.

“You didn’t.” Tess gasped.

“It was a gut reaction. There was an FBI agent at Maria’s house! I didn’t think I just reacted!”

“How did Alex react?” Tess asked. She felt bad for her friend.

“He told me that he was sorry I felt that way but he didn’t have the time to deal with it right now.”

“Ouch.” Max said.

“You can say that again. It appears that Alex has grown a major set of...” Michael was about to say when he was interrupted by Serena and Tess.

“Michael!”

“Not funny Michael.” Tess said trying to defend her friend.

“Maria told me everything after he left.” Isabel added quietly.

“So what are you going to do?” Serena asked.

“Maria gave me his cell and his address. I am going to go see him when he gets back.”

“I really need to apologize.”

“I think that’s for the best Isabel.” Tess said placing her hand on Isabel’s.

Isabel nodded. Over the last four years she and Tess had become extremely close and she was glad that she was with her now.

“Where is Jamie?” She asked realizing that her nephew was no where to be found.

“He conked out. He told me right before he fell asleep that he loved the Earth holiday of Christmas.”

“Awah….” Isabel and Serena said in Unison.

“He was a little upset about something though. He wouldn’t tell me but I could tell there was something bothering him.”

“Do you think he misses Antar?”

“No, he couldn’t wait to get to Earth. It’s something else.”

“He’ll tell me eventually he always does.” She said with a smile.

Tess adored her son. He was her pride and Joy. Since he could talk all he did was talk about going to earth. He was so excited when he found out that they were finaly going home and yet today he had seemed so sad.

“He’s traveled across the galaxy Tess. Antar is the only place he has ever known it has to be a little scary.” Max said.

“Maybe I can bring him to meet Mikayla. It can’t be too much fun sitting home all day with you guys.” Michael said seriously.

“Hey!!” The three of them said in Unison.

“What? He’s a kid. He needs to be around other kids.”

“You better run that by Maria first. I’m not so sure she’ll welcome Jamie with open Arms.” Tess said with concern.

“Leave Maria to me.” He said with a smile.

“Well from the look on your face I can tell that at least things are going well for one of us.” Tess said smiling.

“Yeah, I couldn’t have asked for a better homecoming, maybe a little less dramatic but Mikayla and Maria…” Michael was at a loss for words.

He looked at Max seriously at that point.

“I won’t lie to her anymore Max. I’m not jeopardizing this.”

“If you tell her they will all find out.”

“And why is that so wrong Max. Isn’t it better they know? Keeping secrets never
helped us. It only divided us.” Isabel said.

“I’m not saying that I am going to tell her tonight but when the time comes I will tell her.”

Max knew they were right.

“That’s fair. I only ask that you give me a heads up before so that when Liz comes to me I’ll be prepared.”

Michael nodded and then turned to Tess.

“I’ll talk to Maria.”

Tess nodded. Her thoughts were now on Kyle. She knew that she needed to talk to him but as she had told Serena earlier it was complicated.

Michael turned to Serena.

“I have to head back do you want to come back with me?”

“Oh, Serena gets to meet Hurricane Deluca.” Isabel said turning the tables on Michael.

It was now Michael’s turn to glare at Isabel.

“It’s late Michael. How about I come by in the morning?”

“Ok. Isabel can tell you how to get there.”

He kissed her on the cheek, said his goodbyes to the others and headed out the door.

Tess felt like her body was full of pent up energy.

“I think I’m going to go for a walk.”

She grabbed her jacket and headed out the door.

“I guess that leaves you and me Max. You interested in watching the Fonz Jump some sharks?”

He laughed and she smiled and they watched the rest of the Marathon.

As always Thank You for the feedback. Here is the part that you have all been waiting for.

Part 21

Till we meet again

Tess left the house not knowing where she was going.
She needed to get out. She needed to think.

Isabel, Michael and even Max had all had contact with their former loves. They had spoken to them, yelled at them, been near them. All she knew about Kyle was that for the brief moment they had contact he couldn’t even look at her.

What did she expect after all? It was her fault he had done nothing but love her and she had shattered his heart, not on purpose but she had.

Instinctively her hand came to her neck and the locket that had rested between her breasts for the last four years. It was the locket that Kyle had planned to give to her. She had impulsively taken it that day before she left. She had told herself that she needed to take a little piece of him with her.

She was glad she had. Any time she was homesick she would open it and gaze at the picture inside, his picture. Standing there in the dark illuminated by only a few street lights her mind wandered back to that fateful day when she had left this world and traveled to another.

The last sound she heard before she was consumed by darkness was Michael’s voice screaming for Maria.

She awoke to a bright light shining in her eyes what she would find out was several weeks later. There was chattering going on around her but she could not understand it.

She tried to move her head but found that she couldn’t without making herself dizzy and nauseas. Her hands moved slowly to her lower abdomen where she felt a light bulge starting to form. It made her smile instantly, her baby.

After lying still for a few moments she managed to push herself up on her hands and surveyed her surroundings.

She was in a large windowless room. The walls were a pale blue and there seemed to be only one way in and out. There was medical equipment and machinery all around her. At the sight of a metal tray full of what she could only imagine were surgical tools fear immediately gripped her. Adrenaline rushed through her veins and she found that she was no longer unable to move.

One thought kept running through her head ‘Where were the others? Why was she alone again?’

She turned herself towards the chattering. She saw two beings talking animatedly with there hand. She imagined they were disagreeing or arguing and she hoped that it was not about her.

She was surprised to find that they didn’t have very large heads with dark eyes. In fact they looked very much like humans. Granted they were slightly taller then the average human and they had extremely long fingers but there facial features were just like humans.

The two beings stopped talking when they realized she was awake. They began to walk towards her. She sat straight up preparing to defend herself if necessary. She felt extremely small considering the height they had on her but she only needed to be able to disorient them if necessary.

As they approached she could make out that one was a male and the other a female. The male had short choppy black hair and violet eyes and the girl had long blonde hair which was placed in a braid that fell down to the middle of her back. Her eyes were turquoise and Tess thought they were the most beautiful eyes that she had ever seen.

“Your highness you are finally awake.” The male said to her.

A look of confusion crossed her face.

“You speak English?”

The young woman smiled.

“Many of us have been taught the language of the royal four so that when you returned we would not have difficulty communicating with you.”

That made sense to Tess but she didn’t know if she should trust these people just yet, especially since she had no idea where the others were.

“Where are Max, Michael and Isabel?” She asked.

“They awoke earlier and are in their living quarters or rooms as you might call them. You did not awake right away so we kept you here for observation.” The male said.

Tess snorted. The last to a wake again, first the pods now this.

“The story of my life.” She mumbled.

“I am Katiya and this is Luriod. We are members of the royal medical staff.” The young woman again smiled.

The tension began to leave Tess’s body.

“I would like to see them please.”

“Of course.”

Tess followed Katiya through a door and down a long hall way. The hallway was indistinct and nothing lined the walls aside from a few symbols on each door they passed.

They arrived at a door that had the four square symbol on it and Katiya opened it.

Tess followed her in. Tess scanned the room. It was spacious and decorated very much like earth rooms.

There were two large sofas on the left and a small kitchen and dining area to the right. Off of the kitchen was a small hallway which contained more doors.

“These are your living quarters. This is the common area.” She said making a sweeping gesture toward the room.

“Your room is this way.” Katiya began to walk toward the hallway.

“We tried to create them so they would be familiar and comfortable to you.”

Tess said nothing just nodding her head. She could feel the others were close.

Suddenly a door was flung open and Isabel came running out. She looked at Tess and then hugged her.

“We were so worried about you.”

Tess was surprised by Isabel’s reaction but recovered quickly and hugged her back.

“Last to wake up as usual.” She murmured.

Isabel released her from her hug and smiled at her comment. By that time Max and Michael had heard the commotion and were in the hallway as well.

They were both wearing long robes. Michael’s robe was a dark green and Max’s was a deep burgundy.

Tess smiled to herself. If only Kyle could see them now. He would love this. Her amusement quickly turned to sadness as she realized she would never get to tell him.

“Good to see you decided to join us.” Michael said in his usual way but Tess could see that he had been worried.

“How are you feeling?” Max asked.

“Ok, I was a little dizzy but I’m feeling better now.”

Katiya watched the scene before her and decide that the hallway was getting just a bit crowded.

“Why don’t I show Princess Ava to her room and then I will have the cook prepare a meal and you may all dine together.”

They all agreed but not before Tess said what they had all already told their hosts.

“Katiya, I am not Princess Ava. I’m Tess.”

***********&****************************************************

They all sat around a table in the large living area. There were various types of food on the table most of which Tess did not recognize.

Katiya poured her a cup of steaming liquid and handed it to her.

Tess took it and said “Thank You.”

After they had all been served Katiya bowed and left the room.

“I don’t think I will ever get used to that.” Michael said as he shook his head.

Tess held the cup of warm liquid in her hand. She swished it around. It was blue in color and smelled sweet.

“What is this?” She finally asked.

“They call it cafale. It is basically tea, only you don’t have to add sugar or Tabasco because it’s already there.” Isabel said and then took a drink from her mug.

“Maybe I’ll just stick to the water.” She said pointing to a pitcher of clear water on the table.

“That is water isn’t it?”

Max smiled at her. “Yes.” He answered and then pored her a glass.

“So what has it been like living here?” She asked after nibbling on a few of the items they had prepared for them.

“Well no one really talked to us for the first few days. They basically just bowed all the time.” Michael said and took a bite out of a large piece of what looked like cake.

“Finally I demanded that they take me to see you. We had no idea where you were or what was going on. We were very worried.” Max said.

“After I gave the order they took us to the medical quarters immediately.”

“It was really weird they wouldn’t say anything to us. We knew they could speak English but they insisted on speaking Antarian. They didn’t want us to know something.” Michael added.

“Why? What was wrong?” Tess asked fear rising within her.

Isabel turned to her and placed her hand on top of hers. “The baby is fine.”

“How do you know?”

“What these people forgot was that we are part Antarian and being around the language triggered something inside of me.”

Tess looked at her in confusion.

“I can understand them.” Isabel said with a smile.

“Of course we haven’t let them in on that yet.” Michael said with a smirk.

“So what was with all the secrecy?” Tess asked.

“It was about you and your Pregnancy.”

“But you just said the baby was fine.” Tess said the fear evident in her voice.

“He is. It wasn’t the baby it was the pregnancy. It was like they were surprised you were carrying a child.”

Tess shook her head.

“That is ridiculous. They are the ones who told us that the heir was conceived. It was why we had to leave earth in the first place.”

“Something’s not right here.” Michael said.

“We just have to figure out what.” Max nodded in agreement.

Tess felt a shiver run down her spine and it effectively broke her from her memories.

By this point she had walked all the way to the park and hadn’t even realized it.

She pulled the jacket around her tighter and sat down on a bench trying to shake the feeling.

She was startled by the sound of her name.

“Tess.” It came in barely a whisper.

She looked up and came face to face with Kyle.

So much passed between the two of them in that brief moment. It was as if time stood still. She could see the pain and vulnerability in her eyes and he in hers. Then as suddenly as it had come it was gone. The walls were back up.

“What are you doing here?” He spat.

She was surprised by the anger in his voice. She was in the park why shouldn’t she be. It wasn’t like she showed up at his house.

“It’s a park.” It came out slightly nastier then she had intended.

Kyle knew she had every right to be there but she was sitting on his bench, the bench where he had seen the little boy earlier.

He let out a breath. “Right.”

They stood there awkwardly for a few moments and the Kyle turned to go.

“Kyle, can we talk?” She said trying to stop him.

“I don’t think that there is anything left to say.”

Tess felt a lump for in her throat. She had waited almost four years for this moment and now she felt as if she would pass out.

“I…” She tried to say and her hand went to her neck and her locket.

Kyle noticed it instantly. “Where did you get that?”

He startled her and she jumped back a bit.

“What?”

“The locket, where did you get it?” He said angrily.

“I took it the day I left.” She said sadly.

“You had no right.” He bit out.

“I bought that for someone else.”

“You bought it for me.” She said shocked by his statement.

“No I bought it for the Tess that I knew, the woman that I loved. Not the woman who left that day. She betrayed our love with someone she swore she had no feelings for.”

“Kyle, there is something you need to know…”

“No Tess, I don’t wan to hear it. What could you possibly say?” He yelled angrily.

He threw his hands up in the air. “I don’t wan to do this anymore.”

He turned and began walking quickly in the opposite direction.

“Kyle wait!” She yelled but he only picked up speed.

“You have a son.” She whispered but there was no one there to hear.

Editing to say that this is Part 22 A not Part 23 A. Thanks extingman for pointing that out.
Part 22 A

Michael rang the doorbell to Maria’s house and waited for her to answer. A lot of things were swirling through his mind. The most important one however was how Maria was going to react when she met Serena. He hoped that she would be ok with the news.

Maria opened the door as he began to contemplate the situation. He checked quickly to make sure that his mouth was not hanging open. She was wearing a cropped white t-shirt and yellow yoga pants. It wasn’t what she was wearing but how she looked in it. The t-shirt clung in all the right places and the pants were rolled just below her belly button exposing the shimmering skin of her stomach.

She was on the phone and waved him in.

It took him a moment to register that she had spoken to him.

“You don’t have to knock you know.” She said her hand over the receiver.

Michael just shrugged and followed her into the Living area.

“I’ll call you tomorrow. Try not to worry about it. I know you can handle this.” Maria said into the phone.

She clicked off the cordless and threw it on the coffee table.

“Want to explain how the hell Max managed to get a job at Liz’s hospital, as a doctor?” She said narrowing her eyes at him.

Michael sighed.

“He had no way of knowing that she was a doctor when he made those arrangements.”

“Well how about you explain how an alien that has spent the last 5 years on another planet can even be a doctor? He can’t go healing everyone with his alien voodoo and not expect to get caught.”

“He is half human and trust me he has plenty of knowledge about medicine on Antar. We just used our contacts on earth to make it look like he had been at college all this time.”

“Maybe he did have a lot of experience on Antar but this is earth and these are humans.”

“The two aren’t that different, Maria.”

This bit of information got Maria’s attention. “What do you mean we aren’t that different?”

“Antarians are very similar to humans in physical appearance and biological makeup.”
“No, Liz told me that she saw Nasedo’s true form and it wasn’t anything human like.”

“Nasedo wasn’t an Antarian.”

“So Antarian’s aren’t grey with big eyes?”

Michael laughed a bit.

“No, they look like most humans only taller with longer fingers. It’s probably why we are all so tall, well except for Tess. Her human genes took over and made her short.”

Maria ran her hands through her hair.

“That’s amazing Michael. You finally have all those answers that you always wanted.”

Again he just shrugged.

”I guess.”

There was a soft silence that fell between them. They had talked about so much but nothing about what happened on Antar. She didn’t want to push him so she turned the subject back to Max

”He needs to go somewhere else. Why can’t he just leave her alone?”

“There is only one hospital near Roswell.”

“Well maybe he and Tess should move to Albuquerque or something. Why do they have to mess with everyone’s lives? Liz is finally happy. She has Ryan and they are starting a life together. She has moved on.”

Michael smirked at this.

“Well if she’s moved on there shouldn’t be a problem.”

“Him showing back up is bound to bring up old feelings and resentments. It’s just not fair.”

‘That’s what I’m hoping.’ He thought.

Michael took Maria’s hands.

“Maria, its Max and Liz when has there not been feelings and resentment?”

“I guess but I’m warning you if he hurts her in anyway there will be no stopping my Wrath. She loves Ryan. I just want her to be happy.”

“Well if she is meant to be with Ryan then she will be with him.”

‘But my bet’s on Max.’ He added silently.

Maria nodded.

A silence fell between them as he stood there holding her hands.

Pulling her hands away from him, she smiled.

“I guess I better get to sleep.”

“I guess so.” He said finding his shoes suddenly very interesting.

“You better get up there and say goodnight to Mikayla because I am sure she won’t go to bed until she sees you.”

He smiled and then headed for the stairs.

“Goodnight Maria.”

”Goodnight Michael.” She said.

Part 22 B

Serena woke up early the next morning. She brushed her auburn hair back into a pony tail. She liked the way her hair looked on this planet. For some reason there was a shimmer to it that just wasn’t there on Antar.

She walked downstairs to find the house empty. Usually there was someone hanging around.

She knew Michael was at Maria’s and that Max had work but didn’t know where Isabel and Tess were.

She walked over to the table and found a note from Tess saying that she was spending the day with Jamie and that she would be back later. Underneath that was scribbled:

Went shopping with my Mom- Isabel.

She smiled. She knew how happy Isabel was to be back with her mom. It made her miss her own mom back on Antar.

She grabbed her jacket and headed out the door. She was glad that they had chosen a house that was close to the center of the town. She couldn’t drive yet but Michael had promised to teach her soon. Being so close to everything allowed her to explore without having a car.

In her exploration she had found that she was a coffee addict. She had tried several different places and had decided that Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts were her favorites.

This morning she decided it would be Dunkin Donuts. She figured she could get her coffee fix and get some donuts to bring with her to Maria’s.

‘I wonder what kinds of donuts they might like.’ She thought right before she bumped hard into someone.

Strong arms wrapped around her to stop her from falling backward.

Her face turned beat red as she looked up and met a familiar gaze. It was the man who had helped Jamie in the park.

“Wow, are you ok?” He said steadying her and letting her go.

“I’m so sorry. I wasn’t paying attention and…”

“Really it’s ok.” Kyle said.

“I see that you are a D&D junkie like me.” He said with a grin.

“D&D?” She asked confused.

“Dunkin Donuts.” He said raising his coffee.

She laughed.

“Oh right. Yeah I can’t get enough of the French vanilla.”

He laughed.

“How’s the little guy doing?” Kyle asked.

“Oh he’s fine, still trying to ride that bike.”

“I was the same way when I was his age.”

“It was nice seeing you again. I’m sure I’ll see you around again. It is a small town.” He added pouring on the Valenti charm.

“I’m sorry again. She said as she watched him walk out the door and gave him a wave.
*******************************************************&**************

After getting the donuts Serena grabbed a cab and headed for Maria’s.

She had butterflies in her stomach. She had heard so many stories about Maria and she was very nervous about meeting her and Mikayla too.

The Cab pulled up in front of the large home.

“Wow.” The word escaped her lips before she could stop it.

“You can say that again. This is where the wealthy of Roswell live.” The cab driver said.

Serena paid him and got out of the car donuts in tow.

Michael must have heard the cab because as she reached the door he was there to open it.

He wore a huge smile.

“You made it. Come in.” He said opening the door for her.

“Michael this house is huge. You didn’t tell me Maria was royalty.”

Michael laughed as he imagined it.

“She’s not royalty, just a song writer.”

“How do I become one of those?” She asked.

“You just have to have the knack I guess.” Michael said with a shrug.

“So are you ready for this?” He asked.

“I’m a little nervous.” She admitted.

Michael wrapped his arms around her.

“Don’t be everything is going to be fine.”

Maria walked in just as Michael placed a kiss on the top of Serena’s head.

Maria didn’t think she just reacted.

“You Bastard!” She yelled as she advanced on him.

Michael pulled away from Serena a surprised look on his face.

He began walking toward Maria.

“Maria…”

“Shut up! How could you do this to me, to us? I trusted you. In my home, while your daughter, our daughter is upstairs. I started to let you in again. God what the hell is wrong with me. Why did I think anything would be different? First I had to deal with the destiny crap and Isabel and now this.”

Serena stood rooted to her spot. She had heard about the infamous Hurricane Deluca but she hadn’t expected to encounter her so soon. She watched as Michael tried to get her to listen to him. She was shocked when Maria began beating her fists against Michael’s chest and Michael didn’t zap her.

She was even more amazed when she heard Michael let out a frustrated grunt and grab Maria by the arms.

Maria tried to resist yelling obscenities as she struggled with him. Some Serena had heard before but some were new and Serena believed in another language.

Michael slammed his lips against Maria’s. She put up some restraint before she melted in to the kiss.

Serena breathed a sigh of relief until Maria abruptly pushed Michael off of her.

“What did you do that for?!”

“To shut you up.” He said with a smirk.

“Well I don’t think your girlfriend is going to like it that much.” She shot back.

Maria’s last comment made her laugh. “I’m not his girlfriend.” She said.

Maria shot her a death glare and she lost her amused feeling very quickly. She was afraid she was going to attack her.

“You son of a bitch you’re married! What have you been doing these last couple of days…”

Michael had to put a stop to this before she went off on another tirade.

“Maria! Serena is not my girlfriend and she is not my wife!”

“Dear god Michael, don’t tell me she is your daughter!”

“Ugh.” He yelled pulling at the hair on the top of his head.

“I’m his sister.” Serena said causing both of them to look at her.

“Your sister?” She said turning toward him.

“Yes.”

“Is she a shapeshifter?” Maria whispered as she remembered the only real alien she had ever known.

“No, she’s a hybrid, like us only she was created the natural way.” He said with a laugh.

“Michael please stop talking in riddles and spit it out.”

“Why don’t we go inside and I will explain everything.” He said.

Maria nodded her head and then walked over to Serena. Serena backed up a bit not knowing what Maria was going to do to her. Suddenly she hugged her which was the last thing that she expected.

“I’m sorry. I tend to get a little over emotional, especially when it comes to Michael.”

“That’s ok.” Serena said a bit confused by the turn of events.

They walked into the large living area and each of them took a seat on the couch.

“I brought donuts.” Serena said as she placed the donut box down on the coffee table.

“Thank You.” Maria said.

“I’ll make coffee.” Michael said.

Serena shot him a worried glance. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to be left alone with Maria just yet. What if she went off again?

Maria nodded at Michael and Michael gave Serena an encouraging smile.

“So what does Michael mean when he says you’re a natural Hybrid?”

“My father is from Antar and my mother is from earth, so I’m a Hybrid only I was conceived the old fashioned way.” She said blushing a bit.

Michael came back in as Serena was explaining.

“Serena and I have the same father.” Michael said as he sat down next to Maria.

“How did your father meet someone from earth?” Maria asked.

“Our father’s name is also Rath he was a diplomat. He was the one who oversaw the cloning of the Royal four.” Serena said.

Michael picked up the story from there.

“He was supposed to accompany the Pods to earth but my Mother became very ill and he did not want to leave her. He entrusted the pods to a close family friend and sent them to earth.”

“When he heard of the crash he was horrified. He wanted to go to Earth immediately but my Mother was getting worse and word was received that the pods had been taken to a safe place.”

“Time passed and they waited for the pods to mature. Then contact was lost with earth and all was feared lost. My Mother had passed on and my Father knew that he needed to go to Earth.” Michael said in a sad tone.

“I’m so sorry Michael.” Maria said.

She knew how much he had always wanted a mother.

He smiled a sad smile and then Serena continued the story.

“Our Father arrived here in the early 1980’s”

“Well if an Alien would fit in on earth in any time period it would be the 80’s.” Maria joked and got a smile from the 2 half aliens.

“He became a member of society. He got a job as an engineer and had an apartment in Tempe Arizona. It was during this time that he met and fell in love with my Mother.” Serena said with a smile.

“She had no idea he was from another planet. When she found out she ran out of the room screaming.” She said with a laugh.

“Kind of like you Maria.” Michael said with a smile.

She smirked at him and then turned back to Serena.

“Ignore him he thinks he’s funny.’ Maria said with a wave of her hand.

“Like you didn’t run out of the Crashdown screaming?”

“It’s kind of strange finding out someone you know is an Alien, besides I got over it.”

“So did my Mother. After she thought about it she realized he was still the same person that she had fallen in love with.”

Serena had heard the story so many times from her parents. It felt good telling their love story to someone else.

“By 1982 my father realized that he wasn’t going to be able to locate the royal four. Others had arrived to do just that. He was asked to come back to Antar because he was well respected by the people. He didn’t want to leave but he knew he had no choice to go back and help the resistance fight Kivar.”

“My Mother was devastated. He wanted to take her with him but he didn’t want to put her in any danger. He kept pushing her away.”

“You and your father sound a lot alike Michael.” Maria said remembering all the times that she had been pushed away by Michael.

“I guess we are a lot a like.” He said thoughtfully.

“My mother wouldn’t take no for an answer. She kept making sure that she was where he was at all times. She just wouldn’t give up on him.”

“Sound like anyone that you know Maria?” Michael asked.

“I like your Mom. She believes in love.” Maria said to Serena.

“My Dad really never had a chance. Finally he agreed to take her with him. A few months after they arrived on Antar my Mother found out she was pregnant.”

“Wow that must have been so hard for her, going to another planet.”

“It was an adjustment but she loves my Dad and that made it worth it.”

“You said loves. Does that mean that they are still alive?”

“Yes. They are back on Antar.”

“Maria looked at Michael with tears in her eyes.

“Your family Michael, it’s what you always hoped for.”

Unshed tears glistened in Michael’s eyes.

“I remember when my father found out that they had emerged from the pods. I was about six and I heard my father crying. You had to understand my Father never cried. He was a proud man so I was surprised and scared.”

“My mother explained to me that my brother was alive and that my Father was crying because he was relived and happy.”

“You should have seen them the first time they met each other. I have never seen my Father so happy.”

“I wish that I could have been seen that. All Michael ever wanted was a family.”

“That was true once Maria but that changed. You became my…”

“Daddy!” Mikayla yelled as she came down the steps.

Mikayla came running over her Brown hair in pigtails and stood right in front of her father.

“You were supposed to come and have a Tea Party with me.” She pouted.

“I’m sorry munchkin. A friend of mine came by to visit.”

Maria had stood up and was standing behind her daughter.

“Mikayla this is your Daddy’s sister, Serena.”

“Hi.” Mikayla said with a big wave.

“I get another aunt!” She said happily.

“Yeah I guess you do.” Michael said to his daughter.

“Are you coming to my party?” Mikayla asked.

“Party?” Michael inquired to Maria.

“Mikayla is having a New Years eve party. We are going to have apple juice and drop a ball at 8:00 as if it’s midnight.” Maria told them.

“What a great idea.” Serena said laughing as Mikayla danced around her.

“You are more than welcome to come.”

“I would love to come.”

“Yippee!” Mikayla yelled and Serena laughed.

Little Mikayla was quite the bundle of energy.
“Do you like Barbie’s?” She asked Serena suddenly.

Serena had seen this thing called a Barbie on the TV but had never actually seen one.

“Well I never had one.” She said to her niece.

Mikayla had a look of surprise on her face.

“You never had a Barbie?”

When Serena shook her head no Mikayla grabbed her hand.

“You hwave to come Pway with my Barbie’s.”

Maria smiled at Serena.

“Welcome to the wonderful world of being an Aunt.”

Michael watched Mikayla and Serena go up the stairs.

“I still can’t get over her. She is so friendly. You think she would be weary of all these new people.” He said shaking his head.

“Mikayla is a people person.” She laughed.

“Well she definitely doesn’t get that from me.” Michael said with a laugh.

“No she gets her grumpy moods from you though.” She said with a laugh.

“Me grumpy.” He said in mock protest.

It felt good to be here with her like this, so at ease. He had missed these moments so much and even though he had met his family on Antar he had always known that he belonged here.

“Listen I wanted to talk to you about something.” He said.

Maria sat down on the couch and took a sip of her coffee.

“Sure anything.” She said.

“It’s about Tess’s son.”

Maria narrowed her eyes at him.

“Hear me out before you explode ok.” He said seeing her initial reaction.

“His name is Jamie and he is a great kid.”

“I’m surprised she didn’t name him Zan or Max Jr.” She said sarcastically.

“Maria…” Michael warned.

Maria sighed and let him continue.

“He doesn’t know anyone and I thought maybe I could introduce him to Mikayla.”

“I don’t know Michael; I mean this is Max and Tess’s son.”

“Maria I need you to look past that and see that he doesn’t have anything to do with that. I need you to see that he is a 4 year old little boy who is all alone on a strange planet.”

Maria sighed. She knew that it wasn’t Jamie’s fault that his parents were who they were. She shouldn’t punish him for their mistakes. She wouldn’t want Mikayla to be punished for her or Michael’s mistakes.

“Ok. He can meet her.” Maria relented.

“Thank You Maria. I’m telling you he is a great kid.”

“Why don’t you and Serena bring him to the party?”

“I bet he would love that.”

Thank you for all of your feedback. There is a lot of relationship fixing to be done. Welcome to all the new readers. Sorry that I haven't updated sooner but we really have been having unsesanoby warm weather that my kids won't let me sit at the computer here is the next part. hope you like it.

Part 23

Liz walked into the residents lounge and pulled her stethoscope from her locker. She had forgotten it there earlier and needed it for her rounds. It was New Years Eve and she had been lucky enough to get an early shift. She would have rounds in the afternoon then finish her charts and labs and hopefully she would be out by 8:30, at the latest nine.

She had a very special evening planned for her and Ryan. She had set up the apartment last night. Her table was set with the china and silverware her mother had felt she needed
when she moved in to her house and her grandmother’s crystal candle sticks had made the perfect centerpiece. She had never even thought about using them before. They were so special but she thought this would be the right time. She had even enlisted the help of her parents to make a delicious meal. She knew that it was going to be perfect.

She reached for the doorknob to leave and start her rounds when the door flew open and Max came in.

Her body stiffened and she moved to the side.

He walked past her giving her a huge smile.

“So how are you today Liz?” He asked ignoring her scowl.

“I was great until about 5 seconds ago Dr. Evans.” She mumbled.

Liz had made the decision to keep their relationship strictly professional and only referred to him as Dr. Evans.

“Still calling me Dr. Evans are we? You do realize it is childish.”

She had refused to speak to him under any circumstance unless it was professional.

“Its not childish Dr. Evans it’s professional. We have no personal relationship only a business one.” She said in annoyance

Max moved within inches of her. He was most definitely in her personal space. She could feel the breath that was escaping his lips as he breathed on the back of her neck. His unique scent filled the air around her. Her senses wee heightened all of them screaming out for him.

“How can you say that when we are spending New Years Eve together?” He said as his finger tips brushed against her arm.

She swallowed hard and turned toward them.

“No you’ll be spending your New Years Eve here in the hospital. I will be having a nice romantic candle lit dinner with my boyfriend Ryan. I won’t be checking anyone’s vitals at midnight, except maybe his.” She said satisfied when her words had there desired affect and he moved out of her personal space.

Before he had a chance to respond she grabbed her stethoscope and headed out the door.

The minute she left the room Max punched his fist into the locker. The mere thought of anyone touching Liz other than him made his blood boil.

The worst part was that Ryan was a stand up guy. They had already worked together on a few cases and he was finding it extremely hard to hate the guy.

He had hoped that when he returned that he would be able to explain things to Liz and they could at the very least be friends but the open hostility by Liz and Kyle towards he and Tess was making things very difficult indeed. Tess hadn’t even been able to tell Kyle about Jamie and until Kyle knew he couldn’t tell Liz, as much as he wanted to he just couldn’t.

He grabbed his own medical supplies and headed out for rounds.

*(********************************************************************

Maria set the last of the balloon center pieces on the table and smiled. It was 3:00 and Mikayla’s guests would be arriving shortly. The place looked wonderful. There were silver and white balloons on every table and she had setup different activity stations all around the room so the kids would have something to do. Michael and she had even rigged up what could only be described as a replica of the ball they drop in time square only this one involved a balloon.

Some people might say she went overboard for a party where most of the guests were four but Maria never did anything half way and the kids parents would be there.

“Wow this place looks great.” Serena said from behind her.

Maria turned around and found Serena standing there in awe. Standing close next to her and gripping her hand tightly was a young boy with sandy brown hair and blue eyes.

“You think?” Maria said to Michael’s sister.

“It’s amazing.”

Maria watched as Jamie hid slightly behind Serena.

“So who do we have here?” She said with a smile.

Serena coaxed Jamie in front of her and Maria got a closer look at him. He was a little taller than Mikayla and had his mother’s eyes. There was a spark of recognition for Maria as she stood there looking at him. He reminded her of someone but she just couldn’t put her finger on it.

When Jamie said nothing Serena answered for him. “This is Jamie.”

“Well hi Jamie. I’m Maria. I am really good friends with your Uncle Michael. Welcome to the party.”

“Hi.” Jamie said and thrust his hand forward. In it was a single daisy.

“Is this for me?” Maria asked.

“My Uncle said you would like it and I would make a good impression.”

“Michael must have learned a thing or two up there on Antar.”

“No Uncle Ma...” Jamie began to say.

“Michael.” Serena said quickly when she realized what Jamie was about to say.

Maria looked at her puzzled for a moment and Jamie just stared at her.

As if he knew his sister was in trouble Michael walked into the room.

“Hey.” He said striding towards them. He placed a kiss on hiss sister’s cheek and ruffled Jamie’s hair.

“Hi, Jamie little man how’s it going?” Michael said bending down to Jamie who he thought looked just a bit nervous.

Jamie gave him a big hug. “I’m good.”

“Jamie was just giving Maria this daisy.” Serena said pointing at the daisy Maria was holding in her hand.

“That was very nice of you.” Michael said to Jamie and then ruffled his hair.

Maria gave a little giggle.

“Jamie already told her that his uncle told him to bring it.” Serena said to Michael hoping that he would understand what she was getting at.

She then looked down at Jamie who was staring at her inquisitively.

Michael got her hint quickly and turned to Jamie.

“You let out our secret.” He said playfully.

“It’s important that we don’t tell our secrets.” Michael added hoping that the little boy would understand what he was telling him.

“I’m sorry Uncle Michael. I promise to keep a secret nwext time.” He said.

“That’s ok. Why doesn’t Aunt Serena take you upstairs? Mikayla has been waiting for you to get here. She has got her blocks all ready for you to play with.’

“Wreally?” Jamie asked excitedly.

Michael shook his head yes and Jamie grabbed on to Serena’s hand excitedly. She laughed at his excitement.

“I better get him upstairs.” She said through her laughter.

Maria smiled at the two and then turned and gave Michael a kiss on the cheek.

“Suuprised he asked “what was that for?”

“That was because you can be sweet.” She said matter-of-factly.

“What do you mean?” He asked.

“The flower, your subtle way of reminding Jamie to keep his alien heritage a secret, its sweet. You’re really good with kids.”

“Thanks.” He said breathing a small sigh of relief that she didn’t think anything else was going on.

“Yeah who would have thought grumpy ole Michael Guerin has a soft place for kids.” She said with a smirk

“Very funny.” He said pulling her into a hug.

“You, you would have thought that I would be good with children.” He said as he held her tightly and breathed in her scent.

Maria didn’t resist. In fact she welcomed his embrace and leaned into it.

“You’re right. I always knew.”

Maria watched from his embrace Jamie climb up the stairs with Serena. There was something so familiar there. What could it be? She knew it would come to her it was just a matter of time.

The two of them stood there for a few minutes enjoying the warmth of each others bodies.

“As much as I would love to stay her all day like this, I have a party to get ready for.” She said breaking the embrace.

“So you would like to stay like that all day huh? Our bodies pressed up against each other.” He asked huskily.

Maria just smiled, winked and walked out the door, leaving a very happy and excited Michael behind.

Thabks agin for everyone who nominated this fic for an awrd.

Isabel paced in front of a set of large stone steps that led too two huge Mahogany wood doors. She had been doing this for about five minutes trying to work up the courage to knock on those doors.

She ran her hands threw her hair forming a ponytail and then released it and blew out a short breath.

“What the hell am I doing? He is going to slam the door in my face.” She mumbled.

She swiftly turned on the heels of her newly purchased leather boots and began to walk down the small stone path that led to the street and her mothers BMW.

She took one glance back at those doors and only wished she had the nerve to get to what was behind them.

As fate often does that last moment glance allowed it to take things into its own hands. As she hurried forward her eyes still planted on the door she slammed into something hard.

It wasn’t until strong arms wrapped around her to stop her from falling that she realized that the something she had run into was actually a someone and she didn’t need to even look to see who it was.

“Alex.” She breathed though it was barely audible.

“Isabel. Are you ok?” He asked. His arms tightly wrapped around her. It had been the first physical contact he had with her in years and it was amazing what just touching her could still do to his body. Every one of his senses was heightened every nerve on its end.

“Alex, I am so sorry. I didn’t mean too… I just…”

“You’re not hurt are you?” He said looking her over.

She shook her head. It was then that he realized he was still holding her in his arms. As much as his body protested he slowly lowered his arms.

Isabel felt the coldness envelope her the minute his hands left her body. She felt a small shiver run down her spine and she wrapped her arms around herself.

Alex noticed the movement immediately.

“Why don’t we go inside? It is a bit chilly out here.”

Isabel nodded her head and followed him toward the huge mahogany doors.
He punched a code into a keypad on the door and turned the knob.

“That’s something new.” Isabel said surprised that he didn’t use a key.

“My company makes it. It’s much safer then a regular key.”

Alex stepped aside and allowed her entry to his home.

‘Always the gentlemen.’ She thought as she entered.

Alex followed her and closed the door. They walked through the foyer which had slate tile and mahogany wood moldings and into the house. Unlike Maria’s house which had separate rooms the floor plan to Alex’s house was much more open. There was a large living area with a huge big screen TV and gorgeous marble fireplace. Next to the fire place was a huge 12 foot Christmas tree with all the trimmings. From that room you could walk up a few steps to a huge kitchen and just to the left of that was a dining room. Everything was decorated for the holidays.

Isabel couldn’t believe it.

“So this is my place.” Alex said after a few moments of silence.

“It’s beautiful Alex.” She said.

“Come on it’s a bachelor its not beautiful.” He said with a laugh.

She smiled.

“I’m sorry it’s very manly.” She said in a deeper voice.

They both burst out laughing after her comment.

When they finally had regained their composure Alex gestured toward the black leather sofas. Isabel took a seat and Alex sat down next to her.

“So what brings you to this neck of the neighborhood?’ He said trying to figure out what she was doing here. After their last encountered he didn’t believe that she would ever want to see him again.

“Maria told me where you lived. I just wanted to come by and apologize for my behavior the other day. I reacted with out thinking. It’s just that the FBI brings up all of these bad memories for me.”

“It’s ok Isabel I’m sorry that things got out of hand also. There is a lot of history between our little groups and you guys just showing up again was quite a shock to all of us. I’m sorry that I acted the way that I did. Sometimes my job can be really stressful and I shouldn’t have taken that out on you.”

Isabel was shocked was he actually apologizing to her. Why had she not realized what she had all those years ago?

“You haven’t changed a bit.” She smiled.

“Maria told me what you did for us. How you erased any traces of us from the files of the FBI and here you are apologizing to me.”

She was trying very hard to control her emotions. She wanted to throw her arms around him and never let him go.

They sat there in silence. The only thing that could be heard was the sound of their breathing.

Slowly as if being pulled by a magnet their bodies drifted closer together. Alex looked up and met Isabel’s gaze.

‘Were those unshed tears in her eyes?’ .

There was an undeniable force pulling them together. Slowly Alex moved his head closer to hers.

The ringing of the telephone broke the moment just as Alex was about to take the plunge and kiss her.

Isabel moved back on the couch quickly as she was brought back to reality.

‘Damn it.’ Alex thought as he stood up.

“I should get that.”

Isabel nodded her head. She watched him jot up the few stairs toward the kitchen and answered the phone.

She got up off the couch and walked over to the fireplace to look at the mantle. There were all different pictures. There were pictures of Alex, Maria and Liz from when they were children and pictures of him with Mikayla and another little boy she didn’t recognize and at the very end was a picture of all of them from the prom.

She picked it up and held it. She ran her finger over Alex’s face in the picture. They had been so happy that day. As she held the picture she heard the tail end of Alex’s conversation.

“Yes I got the champagne glasses.” He said.

He laughed at something the person on the line said.

“I know you love me.” He added.

Isabel’s body stiffened at the words.

“I’ll be there soon. There is no way I would miss ringing in the New Year with my favorite girl.”

All the blood had drained from her face.

“His girl.” The words echoed in her head like a loud trumpet.

‘God I am so stupid.’ She thought as she stood gripping the picture.

Of course he had someone else. Who wouldn’t want to be with Alex? Only she was dumb enough to wait two years to realize they belonged together and then leave him for another planet just when things were starting for them. She was stupid to think that he would wait for her and now it was too late.

She was so busy mentally berating herself that she didn’t here him come back.

“That day seems so long ago.” He said noticing the picture she was holding.

She smiled sadly and placed the picture back on the mantle.

“That was…”

She had to stop him. She didn’t want to know about “his girl”. She wanted to live in denial. As long as she didn’t hear it, it wasn’t true.

“I have to go.” She said suddenly cutting him off.

Alex looked up surprised.

Isabel grabbed her coat.

Quickly before she lost her nerve she kissed him on the cheek.

“Thank you again Alex. Happy New Year.”

Before he could say anything she was out the door.

As he watched her run down the steps and towards her car one thing ran through his head ‘Nothing had changed since High School. Isabel was still running away.’

He sighed as he watched her drive away and then closed the door. It was New Years Eve and he had a party to get ready for.

Well being that it is New Years Eve and this part of my story takes place on New Years Eve I thought it might be a good idea to post this tonight.
Thank you for all your great feedback and welcome to all the new readers. I'm glad you all like the story. Have a Happy and safe New Years Eve and heres to a great 2006.

Part 25

Kyle drove his new Lexus truck into Maria’s driveway and turned off the ignitions. He hadn’t originally planned on attending Mikayla’s little New Years Eve party. In fact he had plans with some of his team mates to go to Vegas but those plans didn’t seem like so much fun since the arrival of his long lost “friends.”

He placed his hand over the seat and addressed his passenger in back.

“You ready to go to the party Luke?” He asked his brother.

Kyle smiled when he nodded his head enthusiastically.

“Well then what are we waiting for? Let’s go have some preschool fun!” Kyle shouted.

Luke bounced up and down in his seat anticipating his brother taking him out of the car.

Kyle pulled open the door, swooped up Luke’s bag and helped him out of the truck.

As soon as his feet hit the ground he ran as fast as he could to the front door and rang the door bell.

Kyle laughed at his excitement. He remembered those days of innocence and envied his brother just a little bit for still having them.

“Wait for me buddy. You’re not supposed to run faster then the professional base stealer.” He said jokingly.

By the time that Kyle reached the door Maria had already answered it.

“Hey Luke, are you ready to have some fun?”

“Yeah!” He yelled and began jumping up and down.

“Good. Mikayla is out back with a lot of the other kids.” Maria said with a laugh.

Before she finished her sentence he was off and running toward the backyard.

It was then that Maria noticed Kyle holding Luke’s bag.

“Kyle? What are you doing here? I thought you were going to Vegas with the guys.”

“My plans changed. I didn’t feel much like partying that’s all.” He said Shrugging.

“Your sudden disinterest in Vegas wouldn’t have any thing to do with our recent visitors would it?”

“No! I just wanted to come to Mikayla’s party.”

“That was really a lame attempt to convince me Kyle. You passed up gambling, showgirls and women throwing themselves at you to come to a 4 year olds New Years Eve party that will be over at 10.”

“Well when you say it like that it sounds pretty stupid but it’s true.”

“Besides you said there are a lot of single moms who will be here so maybe I’ll meet someone.”

‘Maybe a certain redhead someone.’ The thought flashed through his mind quickly.

Maria shook her head.

“Ok but you can’t fool me.”

Kyle walked into the house followed by Maria.

“This is Luke’s bag. Your Mom said thanks for keeping him the night. She and Dad haven’t had a night alone in a long time.”

“Ughh, does she not know that I don’t need that vision in my head. Lord, help us if they decide to give us another sibling. One is cute but two would be embarrassing. God it’s like they are two old rabbits…” She continued shaking her head as she walked up the stairs to put Luke’s bag away.

Kyle laughed. He surveyed his surroundings. The party was in full swing. There were kids everywhere and parents were eating drinking and talking in every room in the house.

Suddenly he felt a tug at his pants leg. He assumed that it was Luke and placed his hand down on his head. When he looked down however it wasn’t Luke at all but the little boy from the park.

Jamie had spotted him the minute he walked in. No one had to tell him who this man was, not in the park and not here, he felt it. He just didn’t know why he had no idea who he was.

It had taken a few minutes for him to work up the courage to walk over but he had. His Uncle Michael had given him a new baseball glove and he wanted to show it to him.

“Hey buddy!” Kyle said strangely happy to see him.

“Hi.” Jamie said.

“How’s the bike riding coming?” He said crouching down to his level.

“Good. I’m getting really fast.” He said excitedly.

“Well that’s good but make sure that you are careful ok. We don’t want you to get hurt.”

Jamie nodded his head and wore a huge smile.

“What’s that you got there?” He asked pointing to the glove.

“A bwaseball glove. My uncle got it for me.”

“Well that is a really nice glove.” He said taking it from him and examining it.

“You know about gloves and catching.” Jamie said as his eyes lit up.

Kyle laughed. “Just a little something.”

“Can you teach me?” He asked hopefully.

“Sure.” He said when he saw how excited the boy was.

He looked around for the boy’s mother but didn’t see her.

“Let’s go out back and see if we can find ourselves a spot to catch.”

The little boy took Kyle’s hand and for the first time in a long time Kyle felt happy. He knew it was strange but something about teaching this little boy how to catch was exactly what he needed.

They played for a while and Kyle found that the little boy was a quick study. Before he knew it they were having a real catch.

The two were oblivious to what was going on around them until Serena came and found them.

“I was looking for you.” She said.

“Well here I am.” Kyle said when she reached them.
“Not you.” She said with a laugh.

“What you’re not happy to see me?” He said flirting with her.

“It is very nice to see you.” She said with a smirk.

“Jamie, Mikayla has been looking for you. She is upstairs and she wants you to meet someone.”

He looked sadly up at Kyle.

“That’s ok buddy. Thanks for the catch.” Kyle said.

Jamie smiled and gave a tug to Kyle’s hand. Reluctantly he went off in search of Mikayla.

“I’m sorry if he was bothering you.” Serena said.

“He wasn’t bothering me. In fact that was exactly what I needed.”

“Well thank you. He has been dying to have a catch with someone.” She said tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

“Not a problem. It’s what I do.” He said with a flash of his signature Valenti smile.

He liked this girl. She was beautiful, sweet and it didn’t hurt that he liked her kid.

“Do you want something to drink?” He asked her.

She nodded her head and Kyle went off to get her something to drink.

Serena smiled shyly not knowing what had gotten into her.

When Kyle reached the refreshment table he found Maria setting out some more drinks.

“Hey I haven’t seen you in a while. Have you found any single moms to flirt with?” She said jokingly.

“In fact I have.” He said with a smile.

“Really? Who?” She asked.

“See the redhead standing over there in the corner?” Kyle said pointing to Serena.

Maria swallowed the lump that formed in her throat when he saw who he was referring to.

“Kyle, that’s Michael’s sister Serena.”

Kyle dropped the cup that he had been holding.

“What? You must be looking at someone else.” He said.

“No the only redhead here is Michael’s sister.”

“You didn’t tell me that Michael’s sister had a kid.”

“She doesn’t.” Maria said sadly.

“So that’s…” It was then that he realized that the little boy that he had spent the day with was Max and Tess’s son.

“Son of a Bitch.” He yelled.

“Maria do I give off some friggin aroma that attracts only aliens or something? What the hell is wrong with me?” He growled in a low voice.

By this time Serena was walking toward them.

When she reached them Kyle sneered at her.

“So you thought you could use your freaky alien voodoo on me too. Well I’m not falling for it this time. One dance on the alien dance floor is enough for me.” He said in a low tone so only she and Maria could hear.

Serena gasped. How did he know about her alien status?

“Kyle! That is not fair.” Maria said

“Oh my god.” She said when she heard his name.

“You’re Tess’s Kyle.” She gasped.

Kyle’s head whipped from Maria toward Serena.

“That’s a joke. Tess’s Kyle? I’m not Tess’s anything.”

“I have got to get the hell out of here.” He said brushing past her.

“Kyle, wait!” Maria yelled after him but he was long gone.

“I’m sorry Maria. I had no idea that he was Kyle. I didn’t mean to upset him.”

“Trust me Serena I don’t think it was you that upset him at all.” She said catching a glimpse of Jamie with Mikayla and Luke.

“I need to go find Michael.” Serena said.

“Don’t make to much of what happened with you and Kyle. Kyle was just a little shocked at Tess and Max’s son being here. I should have warned him.” Maria said.

“Ok.” Serena said and then went off in search of her brother.

Maria watched as the kids played together. It was really such a shame that there was so much animosity over such a sweet little boy like Jamie.

She still couldn’t figure out who he reminded her of.

She watched as Mikayla was playing with her favorite Barbie doll and Suzie came over and grabbed it out of her hand.

“Hey you can’t do that.” Jamie yelled and jumped up grabbing the doll from Suzie and giving it back to Mikayla.

“Thank You Jamie.”

As Maria watched something clicked in Maria’s head.

Liz and Maria sat on the school playground playing with their new Polly pocket dolls.

Pam Troy walks over.

“I don’t have that pink dress and I want it.” She says to Maria.

“Well you can’t have it.” Maria says standing up.

“I want it.” Pam yells grabbing it out of Maria’s hand.

Out of no where a little boy with sandy brown hair comes running toward Pam.

“Hey you can’t do that.” He says taking it from Pam.

“I guess you need the sheriff’s son to protect you.” Pam sneers and walks away.

“Here. She can be really mean.” He says and hands it back to her.

“I can take care of myself. I don’t need a boy to help me KYLE Valenti.” Maria yelled.

“Maria that’s not nice Kyle was only trying to help.” Liz says.
“Fine Thank You Kyle.” She says. “But I could have handled it myself.” She adds under her breath

It was in that moment that Maria knew exactly who Jamie reminded her of, Kyle.

“I can’t believe it.” She says to herself be for making a beeline for the two people who had all the answers Michael and Serena.

Maria spent the next 5 minutes trying to find Michael. As the minutes passed she became more and more aggravated.

“God I know that this is a big house but where the hell is he.” She hissed as she headed for the kitchen.

As she entered she found Michael getting Mikayla a drink.

“Michael “you don’t have a middle name” Guerin.” She exclaimed as she walked toward him.

“Uh oh. When ever mommy calls me Mikayla Elizabeth I’m in big trouble.” Mikayla says to Michael innocently.

Michael smiled at her.

“Aren’t you scared?” She asked.

“Nah, she doesn’t scare me.” He said turning around. He saw the fire burning in her eyes and gulped back a lump in his throat that quickly formed there.

“She doesn’t scare me much.” He said again but not too convincingly.

“I’m going to go find Luke and Jamie.”

“Good Luck Daddy.” She added as she ran out to the party.

“Maria what’s wrong?”

“Don’t “Maria what’s wrong” me.” She said as she glared at him.

“When were you going to tell me that Jamie is Kyle’s son?” She hissed.

“Oh Shit.” He mumbled.

“Oh Shit? Oh Shit. Is that the only thing that you have to say? You all left because Tess was having Max’s baby. It kept you from your daughter. It destroyed Liz. It destroyed Kyle. God poor Kyle, I’ve got to find Kyle.” She rambled.

“Maria, stop.” Michael said.

“Stop what? Don’t tell Kyle that he has had a son for four years that he hasn’t known about? How is that fair? How would you like if I kept Mikayla from you.” She spat.

“We weren’t deliberately keeping this from Kyle.”

“So you admit it. Jamie is Kyle’s.”

“Yes.” He said determined not to lie to her anymore.

“Kyle has a right to know.” She said.

“You’re right I don’t deny that but it shouldn’t come from you. It should come from Tess.”

“Well she hasn’t told him yet. Why should I believe that she ever will?”

“She has already tried twice but he hasn’t let her. He hasn’t exactly welcomed us back with open arms.”

“Can you blame him? She shattered his heart into a million pieces and all for what? A lie? To make Max hers?”

“Tess was just as heartbroken. She loves Kyle.”

“Yeah right. Keeping his kid away from him is a wonderful way to say I love you.” Maria said rolling her eyes.

“Promise me you won’t tell him until Tess has another chance to tell him.”

“Fine but she has until the end of New Years Day and then I’m telling him.”

“That’s fair. Isn’t it almost time to drop the balloon and say happy New Year?”

“Nice way to try and change the subject.” She said with a smirk and looked at her watch.

“Your right it is but this isn’t over, not by a long shot.”

“Things haven’t changed that much I knew this wasn’t over. Things are never over with you until we talk them to death.” He said with a laugh.
“Ha, Ha, very funny.” She glared.

“Just stating the obvious.” He said playfully.

“Let’s go ring in the new year.”

***********((**********************************************************

Alex sat out front looking at the stars thinking. About a half hour ago Alex had seen Kyle storming out of the house.

Kyle, what’s wrong?” He asked as he ran to catch up with him.

“I can’t get away from them. It’s like there is something wrong with me.” He growled.

“Wow calm down.” Alex said placing his hand on his friends shoulder.

“How can I calm down? It’s never going to end Alex. I can’t ever get away from it, from them.”

“What happened?”

“It doesn’t matter. I’ve got to get out of here?”

“Where are you going?” He asked.

“I don’t know. Somewhere to forget.”

“Kyle, don’t do anything stupid.”

“Like what fall in love with an Alien Princess.” He replied quickly and then headed for his car.

Alex had been thinking ever since about what Kyle had said. Maybe he was right. Maybe they couldn’t ever get away from the past.

Even though he had sworn he wasn’t going to let Isabel affect him, she was. All he could think about was how normal things had seemed between them and then all of a sudden all her walls went back up again.

“Alex.”

Great now he was hearing her voice.

“Alex.” He heard again and turned toward the voice.

“Isabel, what are you doing here?” He asked shocked to see her.

“I came to wish Mikayla a happy New Year.”

“What are you doing here? I thought you had plans.” She said studying him in the moonlight.

He had changed so much. He had matured but he was still her Alex.

“These are my plans.” He said holding up his hands.

She stared at him in shocked surprise.

“What? I know its Pathetic. A grown man should have better plans for New Years Eve and yet hear I am.”

“No, that’s not it at all. I thought you did have other plans.” She said blushing.

“What?” Alex asked confused.

“I heard your phone conversation and thought you had a date.” She said and looked down quickly.

Alex let out a laugh.

“Is that why you ran out of there like someone had stolen your favorite toy?” He said with a laugh.

“Well I didn’t want to keep you from your “favorite girl.”

“Yes Mikayla would have been very upset if you had kept me from her.” He said trying to hold back a laugh.

“You think this is funny don’t you.” She said with indignation in her voice.

“Yes.” He said no longer able to hold his laughter back.

She stood there for a few moments watching him and then she smiled and started laughing with him. “I guess it is a little funny.”

“A little? You thought I was dating a 4 year old.” He said and doubled over with laughter.

His laughter was contagious and before long they were both sitting on the ground in hysterics.

A few minutes later they were both finally over their fits.

“I wish you would have said something.” He said gazing into her eyes.

“I didn’t want to intrude on your life.” She said.

“You could never be an intrusion.” He said.

Slowly they drifted closer and closer together. Their eyes never left one another’s.

“Alex.” Isabel said softly.

Alex raised his finger to her lips to silence her.

Her heart began to beat wildly in her Chest.

This was it this was the moment he had been waiting for these last four years.

Slowly he moved his lips closer to hers. He could feel her breath on his lips.

“Happy New Year!!!” Screams came from the house and children began running out the front door.

Alex and Isabel jumped up at the sudden burst of noise and people.

The moment gone now Alex shook his head.

“I feel like I have been transported back to the year 2000.” He thought silently.

He walked over to Isabel and kissed her on the cheek.

“Happy New Year Isabel. Even if it is 2 hours early.” He said looking at his watch.

“Happy New Year Alex. She said with a smile.

He took her hand in his and walked inside.
