From the new TV Guide interview with David Krumholtz of Numb3rs:
He won't lose his essential geekiness, will he? No. That's something we're trying to hold on to. In the November 11 episode, Charlie's math rival, played by Colin Hanks, comes to basically rip apart five years of Charlie's work -- the Eppes Convergence -- the math theorem that made Charlie famous and gave him tenure at Cal Sci. He has to prove his mettle as a mathematician. So, no, we haven't lost any of that geeky competitiveness.
You and Hanks are good friends. Is it fun working together? He's the first peer of mine that I've seen try to do the intense math dialogue. He had a very tough time with it, and it was kind of funny for me, because I struggle with it every day.

I saw the commercial for next week's ep with Colin tonight, and I have to say he looks adorable (in my head that last was in French). He's got the glasses, which makes me happy.
ETA: There's also a new King Kong trailer up on Apple that has a nice close-up of our boy.
