This story is dedicated to my loving sister Taylor. Love ya sis!

Chapter One:

"Where the hell is Maria?" Alex Whitman, panicked, asked his best friend, Liz Parker.

"She's sick." Michael Guerin answered for her.

"Well what the hell are we supposed to do for the last set?" Marco asked, tuning his guitar, "We were supposed to have a chick sing the last song."

"Liz can do it." Max suggested, joining the group and wrapping his arms around Liz.

She turned to face him, her expression suprised, "Liz can do what exactly?" she inquired with a raised eyebrow.

"Sing." he said simply, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"Please?" Alex pleaded when she started to shake her head.

"Alex. I can-----."

"Thanks Liz, you're the best, just write backstage and we'll wing it with the music when you come up."

"I hate you." Liz said sweetly.

"Love you too, snugglebunny." Alex replied with a grin.

"Michael and I are gonna grab a table, good luck sweetie." Max told her.

She grabbed his arm before he could walk two steps, "You're dead, Evans. See if you ever get any." She pulled out a pad of paper and a pen, smiling as she heard Michael teasing Max the whole way to the table.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max glanced over at Jeff and Nancy, smiling timidly. The glare he recieved, had him turning away to face the stage.

"And now," Alex called out to the crowd, "We have a rare treat for you tonight. Liz Parker, in her first, and if she has anything to say about it, last performance."

Liz walked slowly onto the stage, nervously tucking her hair behind her
ears, and began singing.

Stand up straight
Do your trick
Turn on the stars
Jupiter shines so bright
When you're around
They tell us slow down
We're too young, you need to grow
The speed's the key
And they don't know who we are

Max smiled, she was amazing.

And who's to say that we're not good enough
And who's to say that this is not our love

Mother, don't tell me friends are the ones that I lose
Cause they'd bleed before you
And sometimes family are the ones you'd choose
It's too late now
I hold on to this life I found

"Tell 'em, Liz!" Michael yelled, mindless of the very glares Max had been trying to avoid.

And who's to say we won't burn it out
And who's to say we won't sink in doubt
Who's to say that we won't fade to grey
Who are they anyway
Anyway they don't know

And you say we're too young
But maybe you're too old to remember
And I try to pretend but I just feel it when we're together
And if you don't believe me, you never really knew us
You never really knew

Nancy felt her eyes watering. She only wanted to keep her daughter safe, but perhaps she and Jeff really were to old to remember the feeling of new love.

You and I, packin' up my room, we feel alright
But we're not welcome
Soon we'll be drivin', cause they don't know who we are

Jeff sighed, he didn;t want Liz to end up resenting them for the rest of her life. Maybe it was time he and Nancy had a talk with the girl. Just talking, and this time, he promised himself, he'd actually listen to what she was saying.

Who's to say we won't stay together
Who's to say we aren't getting stronger
Who's to say I can't live without you, oh
Who are they anyway
Anyway they don't know

Isabel smiled in approval, glancing over at her crying parents, it was about time Liz and her brother stood up for their relationship.

And you say we're too young
But maybe you're too old to remember
And I try to pretend, but I just feel it when we're together
Who is to say
And who is to say
And who are they anyway

Stand up boy, I shine so bright when you're around

Liz finished her song, completely unaware of how many viewpoints she had changed in her few minutes up on stage. She only knew that she felt better than she had in weeks.

THE END

Once upon a time in a faraway kingdom,
Man made up a story, said that I should believe him.
Go and tell your white knight that he’s handsome in hindsight,
But I don’t want the next best thing.
So I sing, I hold my head down, and I break these walls ’round me.
Can’t take no more of your fairytale love.
