I’m slightly taken back at Kyle’s request to take my car but I guess I can understand. He doesn’t have his own car and at least he isn’t offering to take me in the minivan. That’s gotta count for something, right?

“Its okay,” I state, preferring to take my own car. There’s still a small chance that I’m going to bump into the redhead if we don’t leave right now. “I’ll drive. Its no biggie.”

I unlock my car and smile at Kyle. He doesn’t seem nervous, a little bit smug maybe but not nervous. I wonder what he is so smug about. God, men are so weird. Getting into the car, I wait until Kyle is in the passenger seat before asking, “So, where are we going tonight?”

Cool, she doesn't mind driving herself. Have to admit that I would have liked to drive that car myself at least once too. Oh well, we will be here for another few months, there might still be time for that. Quickly getting into the car where Isabel is already waiting - damn, she is fast, I take another look at the house. No, no Mickey G. staring out the window at us.

“So, where are we going tonight?”

"Oh no, that would be telling and would so ruin the surprise!" I immediately say. "The drive isn't long and you'll see when we are there. I'm sure you've never been at such a cool place, so ... it really will be a totally new experience!"

I'm pretty sure that Isabel has never been at this kind of place ... even though there are probably tons of them in Manhattan but I bet she just never thought how much fun it could be.

A new experience? I’m pretty sure that I’ve experienced enough new things for one lifetime but Kyle seems excited so I won’t push for more details, no matter how much I really, really want to.

“Sounds interesting,” I say, pulling out of the driveway. “Am I dressed okay? I don’t want to be underdressed or anything.”

And I better not be overdressed for Kyle’s sake!

Uh oh! God, why do women always have to ask us men how they look and then act all pissed because we say they look o.k.? What's wrong with "o.k."?

"Uh, don't worry. You certainly aren't underdressed!" I say after a moment. Yes, I think this is a safe answer. God, I hope she won't ask if she's overdressed!

"Do you already have any plans for the next week?" Changing the topic seems like a smart move right now. "I mean, did you and Liz make plans to go shopping or watch a movie or invite some friends or something?"

“Uh, don't worry. You certainly aren't underdressed!” Kyle says

I raise an eyebrow. Does that mean that I’m overdressed? I open my mouth, prepared to ask if I was overdressed. If I’m overdressed, then I’m gonna need to go home and change. Really. This is all Kyle’s fault. Why he couldn’t have just told me where we were going, I’ll never know.

“Do you already have any plans for the next week?” He asks, doing a quick subject change before I can talk anymore about my outfit. “I mean, did you and Liz make plans to go shopping or watch a movie or invite some friends or something?”
I frown. Is this Kyle hinting around for another date before we’ve even gotten this one over and done with? God, I hope that he isn’t going to turn out to be one of those clingy, needy guys.

“I don’t know. We’ve talked about doing a couple of things but nothing has been set in stone. And I don’t know if my friends from back home will have time to come visit.” I say, feeling a wash of sadness. I love Liz and Alex but they really can’t replace the friends I left behind. I miss my girlfriends. Phone calls and emails aren’t the same. “What about you? What have you got planned for the upcoming weeks?”

I shrug slightly at the question, just glad that she isn't talking about her outfit anymore. And well ... I really haven't made any specific plans yet anyway.

"A few buddies from my fraternity are probably going to visit me about a month before this is over, my mother mentioned something about her and Dad also coming for a visit in the next few weeks but we didn't talk about a specific date yet."

Recognizing the street, I point ahead. "We have to take the second turn on the left and then in about two minutes, we should be there."

Following Kyle’s directions, I’m more than a little shocked when I pull up to a sports bar. What the hell? Is this some sort of joke? There’s no way in hell that Kyle would bring me to a sports bar on a date, a first date at that, right? I mean, seriously!

Two doors down from the sports bar is a little Italian restaurant. That’s gotta be where Kyle is taking me. Or maybe it’s the wine bar on the other side of the street. Those two make much more sense than a sports bar.

“Are we going to the restaurant or the wine bar?” I ask, tapping my fingers against the wheel nervously. He better pick one of those two otherwise I’m going home.

I have to say for a woman, Isabel parks really well. What a pleasant surprise, especially since she parks directly in front of the bar. Smart girl! Or does that mean that she knows where we are going? And I was so certain to make sure she's clueless!

“Are we going to the restaurant or the wine bar?” she asks then, tapping her fingers against the wheel.

Ah, I shouldn't have worried, she is still clueless! And nervous, hehe, great.

"Isabel, I want this to be special and ... everyone is having the first date in a fancy restaurant or wine bar or something similar. So, no we aren't going in one of them but in this fine etablissement directly in front of us!"

Judging by the look on her face, I certainly surprised her. "C'mon, you are going to love it." I say before getting out of her car.

He’s joking. I look at his face, waiting for him to smile and say that he was joking. Oh my God, he is not joking. Ladies and gentlemen, Kyle Valenti is taking me, Isabel Anderson, to a sports bar for our first (and probably last!) date. This is crazy.

“Oh I don’t think love is a strong enough word to describe how I’m going to feel,” I say. I think hate might be a better suited word but I’m not going to tell Kyle that.

Oh God, I’m so overdressed. I wouldn’t be surprised if my Donna Karen dress costs more than all their clothes combined.

“I wish that you had told me where we were going,” I state, brushing my hands over my dress. “I wouldn’t have gotten so dressed up.”

I knew she wouldn't mind! She seems like someone who is up for new things.

“I wish that you had told me where we were going. I wouldn’t have gotten so dressed up.”

"Oh don't worry, you'll be fine. You'll be the center of attention." I don't think she'll have a problem with that. And of course, I'll get some attention too with her being my date. "Not that you wouldn't be if you were dressed differently." I belately add, just to be safe.

"Well, lets go then!" I state, clapping my hands together and holding the door open for her. Being a gentleman always works after all.
