Part 22
Michael looked out the window on the plane, amazed at how small everything looked. He was feeling apprehensive about meeting his sister for the first time. Will she like me? What if I do something to screw this up? What if Zan is a big asshole? The stewardess interrupted his thoughts when he heard, “Excuse me sir, would you like something to drink?” He nodded his head yes and was about to ask what there was to drink when she said, “We have coffee, tea, ginger ale or Coke.”
“Coke,” Michael answered.
“Coffee for me. Please,” Vince said.
The stewardess nodded her head yes and walked back down the aisle. She came back a few moments later and gave them their drinks. Michael reached into his pocket and took out a bottle of Tabasco sauce. Opening the bottle, he poured some into his Coke. Closing the bottle, he stuck the bottle back in his pocket. “I will never understand how all of you use that on everything,” Vince said. Michael shrugged his shoulders and picked up his Coke. While sipping his Coke, he wondered if Vince was aware of their alien status. “We should be in the city in a couple of hours,” Vince said. Michael nodded his head yes, having a feeling that the time would seem to slow down the closer they got to the city.
Rath opened the door at the diner and he and Maria walked into the diner hand in hand. He led her over to the booth that he and Zan always sat at. Zan looked up from his coffee and said, “Mornin’.”
Ria slid into the booth and said, “Morning.”
Rath slid into the booth beside her and wrapped his arm around her waist so his hand was resting on her hip. “Mornin’,” Rath said.
“Ria how’s ya likes ya apartment?” Zan asked.
Maria blushed and said, “I think I have spent more time over at Rath’s than mine.” Zan nodded his head yes having already assumed that she had at least slept there, having noticed the black circles underneath her green eyes were fading.
Ava walked over and stood in front of Zan with her hands on her hips and asked, “Who’s room are ya givin him?”
Zan sighed knowing this was coming since he had told them when he had gotten there about Michael living with them. “Why can’t ya n Lonnie share a room?” Zan asked. Rath raised his right eyebrow having been wondering why Lonnie and Ava tried to hide they were together.
“Why you raisin’ ya eyebrow at me?” Ava asked.
“Just wonderin’ why ya feels da need ta hide ya wit Lonnie, dat’s all,” Rath said. Ava turned her full attention to Rath about to give him a piece of her mind when she saw his arm was wrapped around Maria.
Maria smiled and said, “You must be Ava, Rath’s sister.”
Ava nodded her head yes and smacked Rath on his arm. “Rude much.”
Rath growled and said, “Iz was gonna introduce ya. Ria dis is Ava. Ava dis is Ria.”
Ava smiled and said, “Nice to meet ya.” She turned her attention back to Zan and said, “Why not just give him Rath’s room?”
Rath growled before saying, “Iz not givin up my room. Zan’s right, ya n Lonnie should just share a room. Lonnie never sleeps in her room anyways.”
Lonnie chose that moment to walk up to the table. “Hows ya knows where Iz sleeps?” Lonnie asked.
“Iz ain’t stupid,” Rath growled.
“Lonnie is there some reason ya would find a problem wit stayin in Ava’s room?” Zan asked.
Lonnie looked at Zan trying to decide if she should give Zan a hard time. “No. But ya will needs ta makes more closet space,” Lonnie said. She turned toward Rath and looked at him noticing that he had his arms wrapped around Maria. “Ya Ria?” Lonnie asked. Ria nodded her head yes, trying desperately not to see Isabel in Lonnie. She noticed that Lonnie seemed warm and friendly compared to the ice queen Isabel. “Ya always dis quiet?” Lonnie asked.
“No just haven’t had enough coffee yet,” Maria said. She hoped Lonnie didn’t notice that she was slightly nervous even though she knew that she didn’t need to be.
“Cool,” Lonnie said.
“Can ya makes us some food?” Rath asked.
“Iz knows what ya wants. What do ya want?” Lonnie asked Maria.
“Coffee,” Ria answered.
“Got dat. What’s ya wants ta eat cause ya looks like ya never eat,” Lonnie said.
“Don’t mind Lonnie. She does that to me all the time… her way of sayin ya needs ta eat,” Ava said.
“Bagel and cream cheese,” Maria answered. Lonnie nodded her head before turning around and walking back to the kitchen.
“Iz gotta go back ta da crib,” Zan said. He slid out of the booth and walked out of the diner.
“I’ll get ya da coffee,” Ava said. She turned around and walked over to the counter.
“Lonnie doesn’t like me,” Ria said.
“Nah. She likes ya. Otherwise she wouldn’t have said ya too skinny,” Rath said.
Maria turned her head and looked into his brown eyes and said, “I’m not too skinny.”
Rath smirked, and said, “Iz likes ya just da way ya is.” Maria giggled knowing he was purposely avoiding the issue.
Ava walked back over with two coffee mugs and set them down on the table. She slid into the booth across from them and said, “Lonnie will have ya food up in a few.”
“Ya workin’ till close?” Rath asked.
“Nope. Zan gave me and Lonnie da afternoon off so we can move her stuff inta my room,” Ava answered.
“Lonnie’s your girlfriend?” Ria asked.
Ava nodded her head yes and smiled. Rath thought that was the first time he had heard either of them admit that they were a couple. “Ya knows dat Lonnie and I never intentionally kept dat we were ta gether from ya,” Ava said.
Rath nodded his head yes and said, “Iz needs ya n Lonnie ta do me a favor.”
Ava’s blue eyes showed surprise and she asked, “What?”
“Ria’s actually Maria Deluca from Roshell,” Rath said.
“Oh so Michael knows ya” Ava said.
Maria nodded her head yes and said, “I left Roswell because Isabel made me believe that they all were afraid I would reveal their secret and led me to believe they all wanted me dead.”
Ava nodded her head yes and said, “So ya not ready ta deal wit him. Iz can understand dat.”
“I don’t want Lonnie to think I am afraid of her or anything like that cause I can see she is nothing like Isabel,” Maria babbled.
“Chill. Ria. Iz understand,” Ava said. Maria smiled, liking Ava just as much as she liked Tess and hoped that they could become friends. “Iz gonna go gets ya food,” Ava said. She slid out of the booth and walked across the diner. Maria picked up her coffee mug and sipped her coffee. Rath reluctantly unwrapped his arm from around Ria’s waist and picked up his coffee mug. Ava walked back out a few moments later with their food. She put Rath’s plate of bacon, eggs and toast in front of him and Ria’s plate with a bagel in front of her.
“Shelly and Devon are working for me and Lonnie,” Ava said.
Rath nodded his head yes and said, “Ya still have ta come back ta close.”
“Yeah. But after that Lonnie and Iz gonna leave flyers and make sure that no runaways are sleeping on the streets,” Ava said.
“Ya be careful,” Rath said.
Ava rolled her blue eyes and said, “Ya think Lonnie would let anything happen ta me?”
“No but Iz ya bro,” Rath said.
“Yeah,” Ava said with a sigh. She looked at Ria and said, “Ya a brave one.”
Maria blinked in surprise and asked, “Why?”
“Cause Rath tends ta be overprotective n ya gettin involved wit him,” Ava answered. Maria smiled and giggled, liking how Ava ragged on Rath in her own way.
“Iz not overprotective,” Rath growled.
Ava laughed and said, “Nope not at all.” She turned around walking back across the diner and into the kitchen.
Shelly walked into the back with Devon and said, “You guys can take off if ya wants.” Lonnie nodded her head yes and walked out of the kitchen with Ava.
Walking out of the diner, they walked down the street heading to the house. “Iz likes Ria,” Ava said.
“She seems nice,” Lonnie said.
“Ya knows dat ya double’s been haunting her dreams,” Ava said.
Lonnie shook her head no and said, “She didn’t act like I was Isabel.”
Ava shook her head no and said, “No. She said that she can tell ya not da same.”
“Dat’s good. Iz say we packs up my stuff but play till we has ta close,” Lonnie said. She licked her lips making Ava whimper knowing exactly what Lonnie had in mind.
Lonnie inhaled deeply and said, “Ya smell yummy.”
“We should get back ta da crib so ya can taste just how yummy I am,” Ava said. She giggled and said, “We could play and den pack.”
Lonnie nodded her head yes liking that idea. “We could but Michael needs my room,” Lonnie said.
“So we quickly pack,” Ava said.
Lonnie and Ava walked into the house and saw Tess sitting in the living room. “Yo,” Lonnie said.
“Hey guys, want help packing?” Tess asked.
“Nah. Just makes sure no one walks in while da door is closed,” Lonnie said.
Tess nodded her head and said, “Kay.” She had no idea what they were trying to tell her. Ava giggled and pulled Lonnie down the hall with her. Tess glanced at the clock and thought, I hate waiting.
