Part 40
“Oh boy, not that look again,” Simone chuckled as she entered their room and found her roommate grinning like an idiot as she sat in front of her computer screen.
Liz blushed at her friend and roommate’s comment and closed her laptop.
“Lover boy?” she asked.
Liz rolled her eyes. “Don’t call him that, he’s not my boyfriend, remember?”
Simone chuckled. “Yeah I know and I also know that it’s driving you crazy.”
Liz glared at her friend; she hated the fact that she was right more than the fact that she was teasing her.
“ You love him, you want to marry him,” Simone continued to tease.
“If you don’t stop then I won’t introduce you to my hunky brother,” Liz warned.
Simone immediately stopped and her eyes went wide. “Zan’s coming?”
Liz grinned and nodded. “I’ve told him all about you,” Liz teased.
“You haven’t,” she cried.
“Actually no I haven’t,” Liz laughed. “I have better things to talk about than you and watch you make kissy faces at my brother and boyfriend’s pictures,” Liz told her.
“He’s not your boyfriend remember?” Simone mimicked.
It had been three long months since Christmas vacation but one thing Liz could say was that she was happy.
Max had done everything he promised her and Liz couldn’t remember a time when things were better between them. They were as close as two best friends could be. Max would visit every few weeks when he could, he would take her out but the best part was that he would call her and talk to her about everything he was feeling and she was able to reciprocate. If Liz was missing Max, she would ring and tell him, or send him an email.
Often one of them would go out with friends to a party or dinner and would end up leaving early so they could come back to their rooms and ring the other. It was moments like that which made it easy for Liz to forget about everything that had happened between them in the past, it had helped her move forward.
Max had also worked through things with Tess and now they were friends. Liz wasn’t too sure how she felt about it but she realised that she needed to trust Max. After all, if he wanted to be with Tess he would and most probably could be. Instead he spent his time with her, or talking to her and as each day passed Liz felt more confident in Max and his love for her again.
The only frustrating part was that Liz was ready to move forward but the subtle hints she was giving Max didn’t appear to be working.
Liz sighed. “I’m going to have to be more forward aren’t I?”
“Sweetie, after four years without sex if I were you I’d just throw him down and have my way with him,” Simone told her.
Max and Simone had met several times and they actually got along very well. Simone loved to flirt with Max and at first he hadn’t been too sure how to take her but once he realised it was all in good fun he soon joined in.
Liz giggled at Simone’s comment, she had no idea how close she was to the truth. Lately she had been experiencing the hottest dreams and they left her wanting Max more than she ever had before, her vibrator just wasn’t doing it for her anymore.
“So when’s that hunky brother getting here?” Simone asked.
“The weekend. He’s going to spend spring break here” Liz replied.
Liz was so excited that Zan was coming. She planned to show him all around Harvard and Cambridge the first couple of days and then they were going to New Haven to spend some time with Max, eventually Liz would return and Zan would leave from New Haven.
“Oh how exciting.”
“I know, it’s only taken him four years,” Liz snorted.
Liz couldn’t wait to see Zan. She knew that he was feeling one hundred percent better, and it appeared they had his amenia under control for the most part.
“You two going to visit lover boy or is he coming here?” Simone asked.
“We’re going to New Haven next week after we spend a few days here first,” Liz replied.
“Well make sure you fit in some time for me to get to know him,” Simone winked.
Liz picked the pillow up next to her and threw it at her roommate who ran into her bedroom to escape the attack.
***
“Hey bro,” Zan greeted.
“Hey, man, what’s up?” Max asked.
“Good, man, you?” he asked.
“Yeah I’m good,” Max told him. “So is everything organised?” he asked.
“Sure is,” Zan said.
“And she doesn’t suspect anything?” Max asked concerned.
“Nope and I plan on getting her roommate on side as soon as I get there,” Zan told him.
Max chuckled. “That won’t be hard.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah she’s got a bit of thing for you already, she’s always asking questions about you,” Max informed him.
“Really?” Zan’s interest was peaked. “Is she hot?”
Max chuckled again. “You’ll like her,” he answered deciding to go with the safe answer.
“Ok well I’ll see you soon, bro.”
“Can’t wait,” Max told him.

Liz stood on her tiptoes as she tried to look for Zan over all the people in the airport.
Zan was also having difficulty finding Liz through all the people that were standing around were also waiting for people to arrive. After searching with his eyes for a few minutes he finally spotted her and with a wave of his hand he managed to grab her attention.
Liz took off when she finally spotted Zan.
“God, I missed you,” she cried as she hugged him.
“Me too, munchkin,” Zan sighed as he hugged her back.
Liz pulled back so she could look at him and she smiled at what she saw. Zan had gained some weight and was looking a little more like himself and his colour was also good.
“You look good,” Liz smiled.
“Thanks,” she said and then teased him by flicking her hair.
“I like that it’s growing back,” he told her.
“Yeah it’s nice to have it a little longer,” Liz agreed knowing that her decision at Christmas to have her long locks cut had been rash.
“Lets get your bag and get out of here,” Liz suggested when people started to push into them.
“Good idea,” Zan agreed.
Liz and Simone had set up an air bed for Zan in the living area of their shared rooms, it wasn’t ideal but it gave Zan a little bit of privacy through the night.
Zan was intrigued as Liz pointed out significant places on the cab ride to their dorm.
“Wow,” he gasped when they got out and he caught sight of how huge Harvard actually was.
“I know,” Liz grinned at his reaction. “It will take me half a day to show you around this place.”
They used the lift to reach the dorm room that Liz shared with Simone, it was one of the better wings, and that was one of the reasons they hadn’t gotten an apartment off campus.
“Well here it is,” Liz announced as she opened the door. “Home sweet home.”
Zan looked around the apartment and smiled.
“That room is mine,” Liz pointed to the door on the left, “and that’s Simone’s.”
“Ah yes Simone,” Zan smirked. “Where is she? I’ve heard some interesting things about her.”
Liz’s eyes narrowed. “Like what, and from who?” she asked because she knew that she hadn’t really ever gone into too much detail with Zan about Simone.
“You keep my photos on the wall right?” Zan grinned at his sister.
“Oh my God,” Liz laughed. “Simone is going to kill him when she finds out.” She knew as soon as the words had left Zan’s mouth that Max had been the one to spill the beans about Simone and her small infatuation with him.
Simone chose that moment to enter the room. “God I hate that damn Morrison,” she vented as she threw her bag onto the lounge, oblivious to Zan’s presence because he was in Liz’s room looking around.
“Um, Simone,” Liz tried to interrupt.
“He knows it’s spring break but does he let up on us? Of course not, not for a second,” she continued to yell.
Zan leaned against the doorframe and watched as the dirty blonde vented to his sister. Simone’s hair was completely straight and reached halfway down her back. She was wearing tight jeans and a tight shirt and he could see that she had a beautiful body. Her hands were waving in the air and Zan couldn’t get over how hot she was and wondered why he waited so long to meet her.
When Simone was finished with her rant she collapsed down onto the lounge and that was when she caught sight of Zan in Liz’s doorway. Her eyes went wide and she screamed and jumped up from the bed.
“Oh my God who is that?” she yelled.
Liz looked between her brother and roommate confused. She knew that she had told Simone that Zan was coming.
“What, you don’t recognise me from the pictures?” Zan asked amused by her reaction to him.
Simone’s eyes got wider if possible and darted to Liz. “You told him?” she cried.
Liz shook her head quickly, she had never seen her roommate acting like this and regretted not butting in and telling her that Zan was here.
“Max did,” Liz was quick to assure her.
Simone groaned and dropped her head. “I’m going to kill that guy next time I see him,” she mumbled.
“Well, Simone, this is my brother Zan. Zan, this is my roommate Simone,” Liz introduced.
Zan took a few steps towards the girl and held out his hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you,” he grinned.
“You too,” Simone blushed. She had never been more mortified in her life. It was bad enough he knew about her staring at his photos but now she had acted like a lunatic in front of him.
“So, Simone, Liz and I were talking about getting something to eat when you came in, you want to join us?” Zan asked smoothly.
Liz watched on amused. It was obvious that Zan liked her roommate and she figured that if Simone could see through her embarrassment then would realise this also.
All in all, Liz knew that it was going to be an interesting week.

Part 41
Max had just placed the last of his clothes into his bag when someone knocked on his door. He looked at the door confused, most people had already left for Spring break so he wasn’t sure who would be there.
He smiled when he opened the door and found Tess.
“Tess, hi”
“Hi Max” she smiled back. “Can I come in?” she asked.
“Sure” he agreed and took a step back.
As soon as she entered the room the first thing that Tess noticed was the bag on Max’s bed.
“Are you going somewhere?” she asked. Normally Max didn’t go home for Spring break and she wondered what was different this year.
“Yeah, Cambridge” he admitted.
“Oh” Tess’s smile fell. Although she understood that all her and Max were now was friends it still didn’t’ change the fact that she was in love with him, and it still hurt that he couldn’t return her feelings.
“Going to see Liz?” she asked.
“Yeah and Zan” he told her. “He’s here visiting so….”
“Sounds fun” she lied.
Once again her parents weren’t going to be around so going home for Spring Break was a waste of time. A few friends had invited her on a trip to the Caribbean but she had foolishly refused opting to stay in New Haven because she thought Max would be there.
“Yeah and Zan will be spending a few days here at the end of the week”
“Oh ok” she shifted awkwardly.
“What are your plans?” Max asked her.
“Oh you know, I’ve got some shopping to do and some friends to hang with” she shrugged.
“Great” Max smiled at her. “Sounds like you’ll be busy”
“Yeah” she nodded.
Max picked the bag up from the bed and threw it on his shoulder. “Well I’ve gotta get going” he told her. “Thanks for dropping by though”
“Oh yeah no problem, um have fun” Tess replied as she made her way to the door with Max following behind her.
***
“Yo bro” Zan answered his cell. He had gotten up and walked away from the table he was sharing with Liz and Simone when he saw that it was Max calling.
“Hey where are you?” Max asked.
“Some café” Zan told him. “What about you?”
“Liz’s dorm” Max replied.
“So everything’s going to plan then?” Zan asked.
He didn’t think that Max was going to be able to pull it off and until he had met Simone a few hours earlier Zan didn’t know how he was going to pull off his end of it either.
“Yep I think so,” Max told him. “So what’s the plan to get her back here?” Max asked him.
“I think Simone might be able to help me out” Zan told her.
“Cool, well I’ll see you in a few hours”
“Right bro, later” Zan replied.
When he returned to the table Liz smiled up at him. “Max says hi,” he told her.
He was happy when he saw Liz’s face light up at the mention of his brother. She looked happy and that’s all he wanted for her.
“What’s he doing?” she wondered.
“Nothing much” Zan shrugged and then quickly shoved a few fries into his mouth before Liz could question him further.
“So what’s the plan for the night?” Simone asked.
“Not sure” Liz shrugged.
“Lets hit a club” Simone's face lit up at the idea.
“I don’t know” Liz replied. “Zan’s had a long day”
“Don’t be silly” Zan replied.
He knew that Liz still worried about his health sometimes but he also knew his limits and these days they were pretty good, he felt pretty good. He also saw this as a perfect opportunity to carry out his end of Max’s surprise.
Why the hell hadn’t Max recruited Simone to help him rather than trusting him?
“That sounds like fun” Zan added.
“Ok” Liz agreed.
“Well we need to go back to the dorms after we finish off here so we can get changed, lets get some drinks to have before we leave?” Serena suggested.
“Great idea” they all agreed.
***
Max looked around the room to make sure everything looked ok.
What he was doing was silly really, but he wanted to do something special for Liz and this was the only thing he could think of.
***
When Zan got a moment alone with Simone he quickly pulled her into a corner so he could talk.
“Listen I need your help?” he whispered.
“Ok” she replied.
“Max has a surprise planned for Liz at the apartment and I promised that we would make ourselves scarce. So we have to find an excuse to get Liz to go into the apartment by herself and then hightail it out of there”
Simone smiled, “Oh that’s so sweet of him”
Zan arched an eyebrow at her dreamy look, “You got a thing for my bro?” he asked.
“Nah” Simone grinned, “I’d never poach on Liz’s territory,” she informed him.
“Good to hear” Zan told her, “Does that mean your single?” he asked.
Simone walked away from him leaving him with only a shy but teasing smile.
***
Max jumped when he heard the sound of a key in the front door. He was so anxious from all the waiting, and he didn’t know how much more he could take. He quickly flicked the light off in Liz’s room and sat down on the bed to wait for her to enter.
***
“Damn door” Liz cursed as she pushed their dorm room door open.
The apartment was pitch black and Liz fumbled with the light and once again wondered what was taking Zan and Simone so long.
They had all been waiting for the elevator together when all of a sudden they both jumped out right before the doors had shut. Liz thought they were crazy but if they expected her to wait for them at the top they had another thing coming.
Liz placed the six-pack of beer she had carried on the table and made her way to her bedroom to find something to wear.
“What to wear, what to wear” she chanted as she entered, flicking the light on.
“Oh god” she screamed when she saw everything.
“Surprise” Max said in a small voice.
Liz looked absolutely scared shitless and he was suddenly second guessing the whole idea of surprising her.
“Oh my god” Liz cried when she finally realised that her eyes weren’t playing tricks on her. Max was really in front of her.
“Hi” Max smiled sheepishly.
“What are you doing here?” she cried.
“Visiting” He told her.
Liz hadn’t moved an inch yet and Max was still a little concerned that she was in shock or something.
Liz looked around the room then and noticed all the vases of beautiful flowers that sat everywhere.
“What?” she asked with tears in her eyes.
Max took a step forward. “I just wanted to find a way to tell you that I miss you and that I love you,” he told her, his voice shaky from his nervousness.
Liz gasped. “Really?” she asked.
Was it really too good to be true, had Max finally decided it was time for them to move forward again with their relationship?
“Liz, I don’t think I could wait another day to be with you any longer” Max admitted. “So I was hoping that you’d agree to go out with me tomorrow night?”
“A-A Date?” Liz asked.
“Yeah” Max smiled. “That’s if you want too” he added suddenly not so sure anymore.
Finally, Liz was able to get her feet to move and they took her quickly into Max’s welcoming arms.
Max lifted her so they were at the same eye level before he crushed her body back against his.
“I missed you,” he told her.
“I missed you too,” she cried.
Max pulled back slowly then and looked Liz in the eye. “Liz, do you think it would be okay if I kissed you?” he whispered.
Liz smiled the biggest smile she could find. “I think it would be ok” she teased.
Max leaned in slowly, nervously even. It was like there first kiss all over again but this time when their lips touched sparks exploded.
They were still locked together in a lovers embrace when Zan and Simone snuck in the apartment a few minutes later.
Zan stopped in the doorway and smiled when he saw them.
“They look happy” Simone whispered enviously.
“Yeah” Zan nodded, “and maybe this time it will finally be for good”

Part 42
“Are you sure you’re ok with me dumping you?” Liz asked Zan worried. He’d only been in Cambridge for two days and already she’d dumped him two nights in a row for Max.
Zan yawned. “It’s cool, munchkin. You and Max just go and have fun.”
“What are you going to do?” Liz asked unsure.
Although she was excited about her date with Max, Liz wouldn’t go if it meant that Zan was going to be stuck sitting around her dorm room. That wouldn’t be cool at all.
“Simone and I will probably hit that club again,” he told her.
Liz raised a suspicions eyebrow at her brother. “Really?”
“Yeah,” he grinned.
So far Zan and Simone were getting along like a house on fire. Truth be told Zan was very attracted to her and he was pretty sure she was attracted to him too. Last night they had headed over to the club she had suggested and spent the night drinking and dancing, tonight though Zan intended on making his move.
“You like her?” Liz asked.
“Yeah, she’s pretty cool,” he told Liz, and what would it hurt having a little fun whilst he was in Cambridge? If things went ok with Simone they could double date with Max and Liz instead of Zan being the third wheel. Not that he really minded, he was happy that his brother and sister were getting their acts together.
“That’s good, just be nice to her, ok?” Liz warned him. Zan was usually a great guy and treated the girls he dated pretty well but Simone was different than those other girls because Liz considered her a close friend.
“I will, and you just go an enjoy yourself with Max.”
“Thanks,” Liz grinned.
***
“Do I look ok?” Liz asked Simone.
Simone rolled her eyes. She had spent the last two hours helping Liz get ready and after the fifth outfit change she was ready to scream.
“You look hot, just like you did in the previous four outfits,” Simone replied.
“But which one looks the best?” Liz bit her lip.
“Well personally I thought the red slip dress was nice….”
“Your right. Max loves red,” Liz agreed and quickly pulled the green shirt over her head as she searched for the red dress again.
“Why are you so nervous?” Simone asked. “It’s not like this is your first date.”
“Technically it is,” Liz told her. “Every other time we went out in the past we were sneaking around, or going out as ‘friends’,” Liz explained.
“Yeah I get that,” Simone said. “But still it’s not like he’s a stranger that you don’t know,” she pointed out.
“I guess I just want everything to be perfect,” Liz admitted.
“I’ve waited so long for this and now that it’s finally happening I feel like I need to pinch myself or something, know what I mean?”
Simone smiled. “Yeah I guess I do.”
“So, you and Zan?” Liz changed the topic.
Simone blushed.
“God you’ve got it bad,” Liz laughed at her, happy that she had the chance to tease Simone for a change rather than the other way around.
“So he’s hot,” Simone argued.
“I know,” Liz giggled. “I have a model remember.”
Simone groaned. “It sounds so weird to hear you say that. I mean they look the same and you love one like your brother and you’re hot for the other.”
Liz frowned. “I know,” she agreed. It was weird. Zan and Max were identical but her feelings for them were light years apart.
Zan was the dependable brother where as Max made her heart beat fast every time she saw him.
“I love them both, but that love is so completely different,” Liz told her. “I always knew that Zan was hot, all the girls used to tell me. I guess I just never noticed because he was my brother. But Max….”
“Yeah I guess. I think they’re both hot so I’m glad that you can only technically date one of them,” Simone joked.
Liz rolled her eyes. “You’re an idiot,” she told her.
Simone hopped up from the bed then. “You look hot, Liz,” she told her. “Have fun tonight ok?”
“Thank you,” Liz smiled thankfully.
***
Max paced the living space of Liz’s dorm nervously and Zan watched him in amusement.
“You ok, bro?” he asked.
Max stopped and looked at him. “Yeah I’m fine,” he told him.
“You sure? ‘ Cause you kind of seem nervous,” Zan smirked.
“I am,” Max informed him.
“Why?” Zan wondered.
“I just want everything to be perfect. I’ve stuffed things up so badly between us before and I don’t want to do that again.”
“I know but just remember this is Liz, and you’re Max. Be yourself and everything is going to be fine,” Zan replied.
“Thanks, man,” Max nodded.
“It’s cool,” Zan replied. “So I’m taking that hottie Simone out again tonight,” Zan grinned.
“Really?” Max chuckled.
“Yep,” Zan replied.
“Well you have fun,” Max told him.
“Believe me, bro, I will. Fun is Zan Parker’s middle name,” he joked.
Max rolled his eyes at his brother and turned his attention back to the door. A few seconds later he heard it opening and Liz stepped out of it.
Zan whistled.
Max’s mouth fell open in shock and awe.
“Hi,” she smiled at him.
He was dressed in a nice pair of black pants and a black dress shirt. His hair had grown out recently and he was wearing it longer, which she thought suited him. He really was gorgeous.
“You look beautiful,” he finally whispered.
Liz blushed the same colour as her dress. The red slip dress was figure hugging and dropped to her shins with two slits up the side. She wore a pair of strappy black heals that did up around her ankle and her hair hunk in light curls just above her shoulders.
Max was so glad that her hair was growing back quickly, he had hated it when she had cut the long locks off remembering how it had hung over her during the times they had made love in the past.
“Are you ready?” Liz asked him.
Max nodded and stepped forward to offer Liz his hand.
“Have fun, you two,” Zan called as they made their way to the door.
“You too,” they called back as they disappeared out of the door.
***
Max took Liz to a small restaurant around the corner from Harvard. It was packed and not surprising since the food was to die for. After dinner and dessert Liz was absolutely full but she was also having the time of her life.
They sat at the small table alight with candles, holding hands over the top of the table as they talked about everything. From school to all the things they wanted to do after graduation and including Isabel’s upcoming wedding.
“It’s going to be beautiful,” Liz sighed.
“Yeah, and cost a fortune,” Max grinned as he remember his father’s frustration at the amount of money Isabel and his mother were spending. Isabel had slipped into planning Nazi role too and it was driving Serena and Maria crazy. It was times like this that Max and Liz were glad that they went away for school.
“Alex asked you to be best man, right?” Liz asked.
“Yeah,” Max nodded.
It would mean that he would be Serena’s partner; Michael would be with Liz and Zan with Maria. The pairs weren’t ideal but Isabel refused to change anything.
“I’m a bit nervous about having to get up in front of everyone and do a speech,” he admitted.
“You’ll be wonderful,” Liz assured him.
Liz hesitated for a second from asking Max her next question. It had been on her mind most of the night and the only thing holding her back from asking Max was that she didn’t want to ruin there night.
“I can’t believe that we’ll be graduating in a little over a month,” Liz said instead.
“I know,” Max agreed. “Then we have to find jobs…”
“Yeah,” Liz agreed quietly.
There was so much going on in their lives at the moment. It was hard to even think about starting a new relationship in the midst of it all but Liz and Max were both so happy to finally be with each other that none of it mattered anymore.
“We have so much to talk about” Max chuckled then.
When Liz saw the look on his face she broke into a giggle too, it was a relief to know he was thinking the same things she was.
“I know,” she agreed. “Our lives are changing so much but I think as long as we talk to each other about everything we’ll be fine.”
Max grinned. “I know,” he said confidently. “Because there is no way I’m letting you go again.”
Liz smiled happily at him, it was the perfect thing to say, and it was also the perfect timing. “What about dealing with our families?” she asked.
“We’ll do that together too,” Max told her.
He wouldn’t tell Liz that he was nervous as hell about there reaction but he was also ready to tell them and to deal with the fallout, or whatever else came.
“So we’ll tell them?” Liz asked.
“Of course,” Max agreed.
“When do you want to do it?” Liz asked him unsure.
“Do you think that maybe we should wait until after the wedding?” he suggested. He figured that the parents weren’t going to take the news very well and the last thing he wanted to do was disrupt Isabel’s wedding in any way, and coming clean before then might just do that.
“I think that’s a good idea. Isabel’s wedding should be about her and Alex. We can sit down and tell them afterwards,” Liz agreed.
“I’m with you 100% in everything now, Liz, I want you to know that,” Max assured her.
“Me too, Max,” Liz whispered. “Me too.”
Anyways, thank you for your feedback. A big wave to any lurkers out there too. I hope you enjoy this part

Part 43
Liz grew more nervous the closer to the apartment they got. Would Max kiss her at the door? No, that was stupid; he was staying in the apartment with her, sleeping on a blow up bed in her living room. Would he expect something else to happen between them?
“You ok?” Max asked concerned as he watched Liz’s face change with all the different emotions she was feeling.
Liz smiled. “I’m sorry,” she said. “Sometimes I just totally over think things,” she explained.
They reached her apartment then and Liz pulled the key from her purse and opened the door to let them in. The first thing she noticed was that it was dark and she assumed that Zan and Simone were still partying since it was only midnight.
Max closed the door behind them. “I had a great time tonight,” he told Liz.
“Me too,” she turned and smiled at him.
Seeing her smile Max took a tentative step forward. When he was sure that Liz was ok he took another until he was close enough to reach out and caress her face gently.
Liz stepped into his touch and closed her eyes at the feelings he easily invoked.
“Liz…” Max whispered as he leaned in. He wanted to kiss her desperately but he didn’t want to cross the line.
“Kiss me, Max,” Liz whispered without opening her eyes. She was waiting for him, had been waiting for him to kiss her all night.
Max didn’t hesitate. He leaned in and brushed his lips over Liz’s a few times and when he felt Liz wind her arms around his neck he immediately deepened the kiss.
They stood in the middle of Liz’s living room kissing for what felt like forever. When Max pulled back, breathless he rested his forehead against Liz’s.
“I’ve been wanting to do that since you walked out of your bedroom at the beginning of the night,” he admitted.
Liz smiled. “I’ve been wanting you to kiss me all night too,” she replied. “Next time you feel like kissing me, please do,” she giggled then.
“It would be my pleasure,” Max whispered huskily before he captured her lips all over again.
An hour later Max and Liz were still kissing, only now it had turned to making out and they were lying on Liz’s bed.
Liz sat up in frustration, she couldn’t get close enough to Max, and she wanted his shirt gone. Her small hands went to the buttons and she confidently began to undo them.
“Wh-what are you doing?” Max gulped.
“I want to see you, to feel you,” Liz told him her focus never leaving her task of ridding Max of his shirt for a moment.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Max asked.
Liz grinned as she got the last button undone and pulled Max’s shirt open to reveal his perfectly defined stomach. He had always had a nice body but it had just gotten better over the years. Liz felt her mouth water as she feasted on him for the first time in over four years.
“Liz,” Max groaned when he saw her pink tongue dart out of her mouth and lick her lips.
“You look different,” she acknowledged him.
Max scratched his ear nervously. “Good different?” he asked.
Liz nodded with wide eyes. “You always look good but now….”
Max grinned. “I worked out pretty hard when I first got to New Haven, I still do,” he told her.
“It’s paid off.”
Max laughed harder as he realised that Liz wasn’t intending on looking at his face anytime soon.
“You’ve changed too,” he told her as he ran a hand through her hair. His words caused Liz to finally shift her attention back to his eyes.
“How so?”
Max smiled and then looked down at her body. Her breasts were fuller, her hips curvier, all a result of a little weight gain, but it all suited her to perfection. Her waist was still tiny and her stomach still flat from what he could tell.
Liz giggled as Max’s eyes ogled her breasts. Wanting to tease him a little she reached out and cupped them. “Oh you’re talking about these.”
Max’s eyes went wide when Liz cupped herself.
“Yeah,” Max gulped. “They’re bigger,” he said.
Liz leaned in and licked the shell of his ear. “How do you know? You haven’t touched them yet,” she whispered huskily.
Max’s eyes snapped to hers. Was she saying what he thought she was saying? Did Liz want him to touch her? He knew he certainly wanted to touch her but he wouldn’t until he knew what she wanted.
“You want me to?”
It seemed incredible to him that Liz would want him too.
“I want you to touch me everywhere,” Liz continued, her small hands rubbing seductively up and down Max’s naked chest.
It had been fours years since Liz had been intimate with someone. She knew it hadn’t been that long for Max and surprisingly she had been able to move past that. It hurt that she wasn’t the only person Max had been with but ultimately she knew that she would be the only one from now on, and for the rest of their lives, and that was all that mattered to Liz now.
Max had broken a lot of promises between them over the years but he had also kept the most special promise he had ever made to her. A promise that she was reluctant to believe but had wanted to so badly. He had made her believe in them again. He had come to her and he had proved to her that he truly did love her.
“Are you sure?” Max gulped. “I think it’s too soon,” he told her.
Liz smiled at Max’s concern.
“Max,” she said her small hands framing Max’s face so he would look at her. “Do you want to make love to me?” she asked.
Max nodded. “Yes,” he replied.
“I want to make love to you too,” Liz smiled.
Max opened his mouth to argue but Liz covered it with a finger.
“I know you’re worried about me, and that we’re moving too fast but, Max, it’s been so long since I’ve been with you, felt you inside of me,” she told him passionately. “I want to feel that again.”
“You will,” Max assured her with an awed smile. “But tonight was our first date, I wanted to take you on a few more before we reached that point,” he admitted with a blush.
Liz smiled at him. She knew what this was about, it was about proving himself worthy of her, but as far as Liz was concerned he had already done that.
“Well how about I judge your performance before I decide whether I want another date,” Liz teased.
“Liz!” Max gasped.
Liz crawled off the bed and walked over to her bedroom door and snapped the lock in place before she turned back towards Max. With her hands on the hem of her dress she smiled.
“A girl could start to get a complex, Max,” she whispered.
To Max it was as though time stopped after that. He watched as Liz raised her gorgeous dress up her body revealing her even more gorgeous body inch by inch.
“You’re beautiful,” Max whispered as she stepped towards the bed where he was kneeling and waiting for her.
This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know,
you know, you know
He pulled Liz into his arms and laid her down gently on the bed.
“I love you,” He told her as he kissed every inch of her body. From her mouth to her toes, Max made sure he didn’t miss a spot as he slowly undressed her.
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore
“I love you too,” Liz gasped as his mouth left trails of fire everywhere it touched. It felt as though she was having sensory overload, every nip and tuck felt intensified by a thousand.
On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know,
you know, you know
Liz was like a puddle of goo as Max finally pushed his boxers down his legs and joined her on the bed. She reached for him and began her own exploration of Max’s body. She kissed him everywhere she could just like he had done to her until Max couldn’t stand it a minute longer and pulled her up his body.
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore
“Are you sure?” he asked her as she sat straddling him.
“I’m sure,” Liz smiled.
So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know
Max slipped inside of Liz slowly wanting to savour every moment of making love to her again.
Liz moaned as he entered her body, it had been so long since she felt him fill her up and she knew nothing would ever compare to making love to Max.
I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
They moved together like two lovers who had been making love for years, and when they came, they came together crying out each other’s name and telling each other how much they loved the other.
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Liz smiled as she looked up at Max from where she was lying on his naked and sweaty chest.
“I missed that,” she admitted.
Max grinned at her. “It was amazing,” he told her.
They fell asleep not long after that wrapped in each other’s arms, and both knew for the first time in a long time that everything was going to be ok.

Part 44
Zan grinned down at the blonde as she grinded herself against his thigh. It had been like this since they had arrived hours earlier at the club, and he didn’t know how much more he could take.
Zan wasn’t sure he was going to even make it out of the apartment after he saw Simone emerge from her bedroom dressed for the night. Her black leather skirt was so short that Zan knew he would get the sweetest view if she bent over, and she finished it off with a bright blue sequenced top.
“Zan!” Simone shouted.
Zan looked down when he heard Simone call his voice. Her eyes were dark and focused completely on his lips.
“Yeah?” he whispered.
“Are you ever going to kiss me?” she asked.
It had taken her a couple of drinks to work up the courage but she knew it was now or never. She had been sending Zan hints all night to let him know she wanted him, she had hoped that grinding herself against him would be enough but apparently not.
Zan smirked at her. “You want to kiss me?” he teased.
Simone slapped his chest. “You know I do,” she whispered huskily, “and I also know you want to kiss me too.”
Zan was mesmerized by every movement of her lips and finally unable to deny either of them any more he leaned in and captured them.
They continued to kiss as they grinded to the sound of the music. Simone wrapped her arms around Zan’s neck and he pulled her closer until there wasn’t an inch between them. Their grinding became more intense both frustrated that they still couldn’t get close enough.
“Lets get out of here,” Simone suggested.
Zan looked at her a little unsure. He didn’t want to read the signals wrong and right now he thought he might be. Simone’s voice was husky with need and her eyes were glazed with desire.
“Where to?” he asked.
“Back to the apartment,” she replied as she took his hand and began to lead him out of the club.
“But Liz and Max are there,” Zan reminded her as they stepped out in to the fresh air.
The last thing Zan wanted to do was walk in on something happening between Max and Liz. He knew how much the night meant to both of them and he would hate to ruin that. A quick look at his watch revealed that it close to two in the morning.
“It’s cool, they’ll be in Liz’s room and we’ll be in mine,” Simone answered.
Zan’s steps faltered at Simone’s words. It wasn’t like she would be the first person that he would have a one-night stand with but Zan was conscious that this was his sister’s roommate, and friend.
Once inside the lift in their apartment Simone pressed her body against Zan’s and took his mouth again. They were still kissing as the elevators doors opened on their level and they stumbled out, their lips still locked together.
“Are you sure about this?” Zan asked breathlessly as he pressed Simone into the wall outside her apartment.
Simone ran her hands up and down Zan’s chest over his tight black t-shirt.
“Yeah,” she whispered. In fact she couldn’t wait to get Zan in her bed. Two nights of dancing closely with him, grinding her body against his hard one was as much as she could take.
Zan kissed her neck as she turned and used her key to open the door. Simone turned once the door was open, her arms wrapping around Zan’s neck again and pulling him into the dark apartment.
They continued to stumble, tripping over furniture and bags, as their hands were busy undoing buttons and pulling up shirts. Zan kicked the door shut with his foot when they finally reached Simone’s room oblivious to the loud noise and the fact that it woke the occupants of the room next to them.
***
Liz sat up startled when she heard the door slam.
“Hey, you ok?” Max asked sitting up behind her.
“Yeah sorry the door just scared me,” she replied.
Max lied back down and pulled Liz with him until she was resting on his chest. Soon they heard the soft moans from next door and Liz looked at Max wide-eyed.
“I guess Simone and Zan are home,” Max chuckled.
“Oh God,” Liz groaned. She didn’t want to think about her brother having sex in the room next door to her let alone hear it.
“They’re obviously getting along like a house on fire,” he added then.
“Yeah, I’m getting that vibe too,” Liz giggled.
Pulling Liz closer Max leaned down and captured her puffy lips and kissed her gently. Liz was smiling dreamily when they pulled back.
“You know,” Max grinned evilly. “We could give them a little competition,” he suggested.
His hands roamed Liz’s back until they were gently massaging her ass.
Liz moaned and moved up Max’s body until she was straddling him. Her wet heat pressed against his hard cock.
“Do you think we could take them?” she asked.
Max chuckled at her “With lungs like yours, baby, I have no doubt.”
Liz hit him playfully. “Be nice or you’ll be playing by yourself,” she warned him.
“Well I don’t want that,” he whispered just before Liz sunk down onto his hardness.
For the rest of the early morning both couples’ rooms were filled only with the sounds of breathy moans and pleased cries.
***
Max was searching through the fridge and pulling out the eggs and bacon to make breakfast for him and Liz when Zan emerged from Simone’s room dressed in only boxers.
“You cooking breakfast, bro?” he asked.
Max turned and leaned against the counted and smirked at his brother. “Interesting night?” he asked.
Zan ran a hand through his hair nervously. “So you heard that huh?” he asked.
“You weren’t exactly quiet,” Max pointed out.
“And you and Liz were?” Zan arched an eyebrow.
Max chuckled. “We were just trying to give you a guys a little healthy competition,” Max replied.
“Right,” Zan rolled his eyes.
“As for breakfast, no, I’m making Liz breakfast,” Max informed him.
“You’re so whipped,” Zan snorted.
Max turned and grinned at his brother.
Zan laughed when he saw the huge grin Max was sporting. “You make the rest of us look bad,” he informed him. “You’re whipped, you know it and you love it.”
“Nah I just love Liz,” Max replied.
“Good,” Zan nodded.
“So you and Simone?” Max asked.
Zan shifted uncomfortably. He didn’t really know what to think or to say. Simone was gorgeous and he had fun with her the past couple of days, and the sex the night before had been amazing. But for the moment he thought that sex and a good time was probably all it would be.
Firstly, he lived in Roswell whilst she lived in Cambridge. Secondly, he didn’t really know enough about Simone to know if they had anything in common, and you could hardly think about what was happening between them being anything more than a spring break fling without knowing each other better.
“I don’t know,” he finally answered Max.
Max shot a look at the door to check that Simone wasn’t there before he spoke again. “Fling?”
Personally, Max liked Simone and he could see her Zan together but right now it probably wasn’t an option because of where they lived.
“Yeah I think so,” Zan nodded. “I like her but…”
“Yeah I understand,” Max agreed.
“So about this breakfast,” Zan brought up again.
Max rolled his eyes. “Fine I’ll make enough for all of us,” he said.
“That’s what I like to hear, bro,” Zan grinned and slapped Max’s back.
***
Liz rolled over when she felt the weight on the bed shift.
“Hi, beautiful,” Max whispered.
“Hi,” Liz smiled sleepily. She looked at Max then and frowned. “You’re dressed.”
Max chuckled. “Yeah I sort of had to so I could fix you breakfast.”
He picked the tray up from her desk then and placed it beside them on the bed.
“Wow,” Liz grinned. “You’re forgiven,” she told him.
Max laughed again. “That’s good.”
They both dug into their food then, surprised at how hungry they were. When they were finished Max loaded their dishes onto the tray and set it aside.
“Are the others up?” Liz asked.
“Only Zan,” Max replied.
“What did he have to say for himself this morning?” Liz asked curious. She was glad that Zan and Simone had hit it off but she had been surprised that they slept together. Simone, to her knowledge, wasn’t a one-night stand type of person and Liz didn’t think Zan would do anything to upset Simone since she was Liz’s friend.
“He had a good night,” Max replied carefully.
Liz sighed. “This is going to get ugly isn’t it?” she asked worried.
“I doubt it,” Max shrugged.
“Sounds like it was Simone’s idea and obviously she knows the deal since Zan lives in Roswell.”
“I hope so,” Liz replied.
Max leaned in and kissed Liz then. “Lets not worry about Zan and Simone their big boys and girls and can take care of themselves.”
Liz moaned as Max’s bit down on her bottom lip sucking it into his mouth. “You’re right,” she agreed.
***
Zan hesitated as he stood in the doorway of Simone’s room. It look like she was still asleep and he didn’t know how she would feel about his waking up, regardless off the hot breakfast in his hands.
The decision was taken out of his hands when Simone rolled over and slowly opened her eyes, locking on Zan.
“Morning,” she yawned.
“Morning,” Zan replied.
She sat up when she saw Zan was holding something and her mouth fell open in shock when she realised what it was.
“Did you make me breakfast in bed?”
“Um oh No!” Zan replied. “Max was making breakfast for Liz and I convinced him to make enough for all of us,” he explained as he walked into the room and handed her the hot plate and glass of juice.
“Well remind me to thank him later,” She smiled and sat up so she could eat.
“You’re not eating?”
“I already had mine in the kitchen,” Zan answered.
He was standing around nervously and Simone’s eyes were following him were just making him feel more uneasy.
“Are you ok?” Simone asked as she watched him. He was acting very strangely.
“Um yeah sure,” Zan replied lamely.
“You can sit down,” she told him.
“Oh I’m good.”
Zan watched as Simone finished the breakfast and placed her plate on the floor below before stretching out on the bed again, still completely naked. He was struggling to take his eyes off her, her breasts were exposed, and he could tell that her nipples were erect.
“Instead of looking why don’t you come back to bed and touch,” she suggested huskily.
Zan’s eyes snapped to Simone’s.
Simone just grinned at him as she begun to push the sheet lower until her entire body was exposed. She rubbed her legs together as she watched Zan’s cock grow hard, causing his boxers to tent.
“You know you want to,” she licked her lips.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Zan replied huskily.
“Why not?”
“I don’t want to lead you on,” he admitted.
“You won’t be,” Simone replied. “I get what last night was, I suggested it. But the way I figure it is that you’re here for a week, why not have some fun?”
Zan hesitated a second before moving towards the bed. “I’m all for fun, especially the type we’ve been having I just don’t want things to be weird.”
Simone pulled him down until he was pressed against her chest. “Lets just worry about later, later,” she whispered before she leaned up and covered his mouth with hers.
I hope you enjoy this though

Part 45
“Liz is everything all right?” Isabel called over the door.
Liz looked at her reflection in the mirror again before answering. “Yeah I’m coming out.”
Slipping into the shoes Isabel had given her earlier Liz opened the door and stepped out.
Isabel gasped when she saw her, and Maria and Serena smiled.
“What do you think?” Liz asked.
Liz hadn’t gotten home to Roswell until earlier that day and Isabel had been quick to whisk her off for a bridesmaid dress fitting. The dress was a royal blue, a strapless top that fit nicely over a long fitted skirt. It was beautiful but Liz didn’t think she was doing it justice.
“Perfect,” Isabel smiled. The dress fit Liz perfectly off the rack so there would be no alterations required.
“Are the shoes the right fit?” Serena asked.
“Yep”, Liz smiled.
It felt strange to be home with everyone again. Only a few days ago Liz had been in Cambridge with her parents, Zan, Max, and Serena for her graduation ceremony. Afterwards, everyone had helped her pack up before she shared a teary goodbye with Simone and headed to New Haven for Max’s graduation. Liz knew that she would be seeing Simone a lot in the future, they had formed a strong friendship in their four years of living together, and that wouldn’t be affected by a change in geographical location.
It had been strange when Liz, Serena, and Zan had gone to New Haven and met up with Mr. and Mrs. Evans. Jeff and Nancy Parker hadn’t joined them, instead they had stayed in Cambridge and organised for Liz’s things to be sent home to Roswell. Isabel also hadn’t flown in to join them because she had been swamped with wedding plans.
At first Liz and Max had found it almost impossible to keep their feelings for each other and their new relationship to themselves. Liz had a feeling her mother had picked up on the change between them straight away, and a couple of times she had seen Dianne Evans staring at her and Max strangely too. It was difficult to remind yourself that you couldn’t lace your hands together or share a kiss whenever you felt like it, and Liz hated it more than she remembered.
But to her surprise it had bothered Max more than it had her. He had been ready to say to hell with it a few times and confess to the parents, tired of having to rein himself in. All he wanted to do after seeing Liz graduate was pull her into his arms and kiss her but he couldn’t. Liz understood how he felt. It had been her first instinct too during his graduation. Eventually though Liz had convinced him that there initial plan was right. Liz wouldn’t allow anything to ruin Isabel’s wedding.
“I can’t believe you’re getting married,” Liz smiled then.
“I know,” Isabel squealed happily.
“Let me show you what we’re going to do with our hair,’ Maria suggested then.
The rest of the afternoon Liz got completely involved in the wedding plans and was sad about how much she had missed out on. It was truly going to be a wonderful wedding with Isabel adding her personal touches to everything, but the best part was that Liz could see how happy both Isabel and Alex were and she knew that in two weeks time when they walked down the aisle it was going to be the best day of their lives.
***
Liz jumped off the bed and checked out the window again. She was concentrating so hard on seeing up the street that she didn’t hear Serena enter.
“What are you looking at?” Serena asked.
Liz jumped guiltily when she heard her sister. Since she had returned the day before they hadn’t really gotten the chance to sit down and talk. Liz also felt guilty because she hadn’t told Serena that her and Max were back together. It had been a decision that Liz and Max had made together.
“I was just seeing if Max was home yet,” she admitted.
Serena nodded and smiled. “They should be home soon,” she replied.
“Yeah I know,” Liz smiled.
“So how does it feel to be home for good?” Serena asked as she took a seat on the bed.
Liz sighed. “It’s different, not sure how long I’ll be here though.”
“Really, why?” Serena frowned.
Serena had studied teaching at uni and graduated a week before Liz; unfortunately Liz and Max hadn’t been able to attend because they were still attending classes. Liz also knew that Serena had already secured a job working at Roswell Primary School. Kyle had also been lucky enough to get a job as the assistance coach at West Roswell, and would also teach PE.
“I’ve had a few job offers,” Liz admitted. She had talked briefly with her parents about the jobs as well as discussed it with Max but they hadn’t made a decision yet, but by the end of summer Liz would have too. Also, Liz and Zan were planning on taking their Christmas present and were looking to plan a trip to Europe over the next three months.
“Where?” Serena asked. Serena hated being far away from Liz over the past four years and she was disappointed that she wouldn’t be staying in Roswell.
“Florida, Boston, Las Cruces,” Liz answered.
“Which one are you leaning towards?” Serena asked.
“The opportunity in Boston is fantastic,” Liz replied. “It’s in research which is a dream of mine to get into but the money isn’t very good and it would cost a lot to live there.”
“You wouldn’t have that problem in Las Cruces and you would be close to home,” Serena pointed out hopefully.
“I know but there are other contributing factors,” Liz answered. Like whether or not Max could work in Las Cruces. Liz knew that there was a lot more opportunity for him in Boston or New York.
Zan had already decided to start working in the family business with their father and Liz knew that meant he would be staying in New Mexico and she didn’t really want too be too far away from him.
“Like what?” Serena asked.
As far as she was concerned Liz was acting strange and Serena was wondering what was going on with her twin.
“Well I have to think about my career,” Liz replied weakly.
“Okay…”
“What about you? How are you and Kyle?” Liz asked changing the subject.
“We’re good,” Serena grinned. She couldn’t believe that her and Kyle had been together for five years now but they were happy.
“Wedding bells in the air?” Liz grinned.
“Oh I don’t think so,” Serena blushed. They hadn’t really talked about it but since Isabel had started planning she had been thinking about it more and more.
The sound of a car pulling up next door had Liz jumping up from the bed and rushing towards the window. She watched with a big grin as Max hopped out of his parents car. His eyes were immediately drawn to the window and he smiled up at Liz who waved at him. It had only been two days since she had seen him but it had been over two weeks since she had been able to touch him and be with him.
Serena watched her sister curiously. She had been careful to watch her with Max whilst in Cambridge and New Haven and she could tell that they were getting along very well but hadn’t suspected anything more until now.
“Is that Max?” Serena asked.
“Yeah,” Liz replied turning with a smile.
“We’ll have to arrange a get together at the Crashdown, like old times,” Serena suggested.
“Sounds great,” Liz agreed.
***
Liz couldn’t sleep and continued to toss and turn. It was so hard knowing that Max was only next-door and that she couldn’t sleep with him.
Sighing she sat up and flicked her light on and pulled out her book. It was obvious she was going to get any sleep anytime soon.
***
Next-door Max was in a similar position. The first thing he had wanted to when he got home was to rush next door to see Liz but instead he had to go with Alex and the others to get his suit fitted and by the time he had gotten home his mum had flanked him about organising all of his stuff which had arrived from New Haven the day before.
He sighed and hopped out of bed intending on going to the kitchen to get a drink. He looked out his window and he noticed then that the light in Liz’s room was on.
“What the hell is she doing up?” he wondered.
Sitting back down on his bed he pulled out his cell and dialled hers. It only took her a couple of seconds to answer and he grinned.
“Hey, gorgeous,” she whispered.
“Hey yourself, beautiful,” he replied.
“I miss you,” Liz told him.
Max groaned. “Me too, I’m dying here I need to see you.”
“Really?”
“Yes, can you sneak out and meet me?”
It felt like they were teenagers again instead of the 22 year olds they actually were.
“Of course but where?” Liz asked.
“The pool house?” Max suggested. He had no idea what kind of state it would be in but he didn’t care as long as he got to see Liz.
“Ok I’ll meet you in five minutes,” Liz agreed.
They both hung up then and after quickly throwing on some clothes Max quietly slipped from his room and down the stairs.
***
Serena was just walking out of the kitchen with her glass of water when she caught sight of Max tiptoeing down the stairway and heading towards the kitchen. She slipped into the shadows so he didn’t see her and frowned when she noticed that he was dressed.
“Where the hell is he going?” she whispered to herself.
Her curiosity peaked she followed him into the kitchen, surprised when she noticed him slipping out of the back door. She moved to the window once she thought she was safe from being seen, and her eyes widened in surprise as she watched Max head towards the pool house and slip inside. Confused, she was about to go back to bed and ask Max about it tomorrow but just as she was about to move she caught movement from the corner of her eye.
“What the hell” she wondered.
She pressed closer to the window not quite sure if what she was seeing was right. It looked like Liz was running across the open backyard and slipping into the pool house behind Max.
***
Max waited by the door for Liz. He couldn’t turn any lights on and he wanted to make sure she didn’t trip over anything as she entered the dark room. Max’s sight had adjusted slowly but now he could see around the room, never more glad that it was a full moon.
The minute the door opened and Liz slipped inside Max caught her in his arms.
No words were spoken as Liz wrapped her legs around his waist, her arms around his neck and welcomed his mouth over hers.
They stumbled towards the day bed in the middle of the room too busy reacquainting themselves with the others taste to bother about where they were going.
“God I missed you,” Max whispered when he pulled apart, his forehead pressed against Liz’s.
“Me too”, Liz replied.
Liz laid down on her side and Max laid across from her, and both of them just stared at each other, wanting to take each other in as their hands caressed innocent places.
“It fees so good just to be able to hold your hand,” Max told her as he raised their entwined hands to his mouth and kissed them.
“I know,” Liz agreed. “It’s going to be hell trying to hide us for the next two weeks.”
Even though they had hidden their relationship when they were in high school both knew now that it was completely different. What they had between them now was something more special, it was a grown up relationship where they discussed everything and were planning a future together. Hiding the way they felt about each other didn’t feel right.
Liz suspected that both mothers and Serena were already suspicious and she didn’t know what to do.
“I know,” he agreed not wanting to think about it. He knew it would be two weeks of hiding and lying, of stolen moments.
“Maybe we should tell the others,” she said.
Max thought about it. “As long as it doesn’t over shadow Isabel and Alex.”
Liz sighed. She had a feeling that Serena was going to make a big deal of it since she wasn’t too keen on the idea of Max and Liz making up eventually at Christmas time. If Serena over reacted it certainly would get in the way of Isabel’s wedding.
“I agree I just hate lying to everyone, especially Serena.”
Max nodded in understanding. He knew that Liz and Serena were close “I’ll leave it up to you if you want to tell her,” he agreed.
Max pulled Liz closer against him then. “But for now, I don’t want to think about anything but us. So come here, beautiful,” he whispered.
Their mouths came back together then and soon all thoughts of anyone else were gone as the two lovers reunited, taking advantage of their stolen moments together while they could.

A/N: Hi everyone. Thank you so much for your patience, and for your feedback for the last part. I'm back with a new part which i apologise hasn't been edited. I hope you enjoy it
Part 46
The group sat around the Crashdown just like it was old times. Serena true to her word about getting everyone together.
“God it’s weird to be here again” Liz laughed as she looked around the alien theme restaurant.
“No one makes burgers this good in New Haven” Max mumbled his mouth full of food.
“Eew Max” Isabel scrunched up her nose at her brothers lack of manners.
Max’s response was to grin at her, his mouth still full.
“Stop it” Liz hit him.
Serena watched the interaction with narrowed eyes. They had been at the Crashdown for half an hour later and that was plenty of time as far as she was concerned for them to come clean about what was going on if they planned to.
“What? it’s true” Max argued.
“he’s right” Zan agreed. “I tasted some of the burger in the joints these too hung out in Cambridge and New Haven and they don’t hold a candle to a good old Will Smith”
“Of course they’re the best” Michael grinned. “That’s why I’m never leaving Roswell for longer than a few weeks” he told him.
“Is that so Space boy?” Maria commented.
“Yep” he nodded. “I base my diet on Crashdown food, how do you think I got to look so good?” he joked flexing his muscles.
Maria snorted “Yeah I’d be real proud of that body too if I was you.”
“Hey what’s wrong with my body?” Michael cried which caused the whole group to erupts into fits of laughter.
Serena turned her attention to Zan then who was siting on the other side of Liz in the booth. He didn’t seem to be fazed by their behaviour as though he expected the closeness between them and Serena suspected that Liz had been keeping things from her for a while.
“So what’s new with everyone?” she asked.
The group all looked at her a little surprised by her comment.
“I mean other than the wedding and stuff” she amended. “I mean we haven’t really had the chance to talk much with Max and Liz since they got home” she pointed out.
Isabel and Maria immediately bought her story and the attention was turned to Max and Liz.
When Max noticed everyone staring at him he gulped down the cup of sprite in front of him.
“So Liz, anything new?” Serena asked sarcastically.
Liz shrugged and avoided her sister’s gaze. She didn’t want to lie to her but she also didn’t want to reveal the news about her and Max in the Crashdown in front of everyone.
“Same old” she finally answered.
“Really?” Serena asked again sarcastically.
Liz turned to her sister with a confused look on her face and wondered what was going on.
Serena raised her eyebrows in challenge at Liz before turning her attention to Max.
“What about you?” she asked him.
“What about me?” Max replied.
“What’s been happening?” she asked.
“Well I’ve been pretty busy with school Sere like everyone else” he answered her also wondering what the go was with her third degree.
“What about that Tess chick?” she asked.
Liz immediately stiffened next to Max and he placed his hand on her leg under the table in an effort to comfort her. It was a move that didn’t go unnoticed by Serena who was paying attention to everything now.
“What about her?”
“Well you haven’t mentioned her lately and I was wondering if you two sorted things out?” she asked.
Liz felt tears spring to her eyes and wondered again what was wrong with Serena. She knew that things with Max and Tess were over and that Liz was hoping to get back with Max, so why would she care about Tess, the girl who had come between them?
“We’re friends that’s all” Max said through gritted teeth.
“Oh ok” she smiled fakely.
“So what are your plans now that you’ve graduated?” she continued.
“What’s this 20 questions?” Max snapped.
“Hey man she was just asking you a question” Kyle replied.
“No she wasn’t she was giving me the third degree” Max argued.
“I’m just interested in what’s going on with you both, you’re always so secretive” Serena explained.
Max sighed immediately feeling bad.
“I don’t mean to be,” he told her.
“She has a good point though Maxwell, what are your plans?” Michael asked.
Max scratched his ear nervously and did his best to fight his urge to turn to Liz.
“I’m not really sure” he shrugged.
“I thought I would come home, maybe stay for the summer, I was even thinking we could go on a road trip, Mike”
Michael grinned. “Sounds good”
Isabel looked to Alex then and nodded slightly. Alex cleared his throat then to get the attention of the group.
“Well since the subject has come up Isabel and I sort of have a little announcement to make,” he said.
The group remained quiet waiting for Alex to continue.
“After we get back from the honey moon we’re moving,” he told them.
“To Albuquerque” Isabel blurted out.
“Since when?” Serena asked shocked. She has assumed that like her and Kyle that Isabel and Alex would settle in Roswell too. Isabel was more of a homebody than Serena was.
“Well Alex was offered a job there and there will be a lot more opportunity for me in event coordination there too” she explained.
“Wow, that’s great Alex, Isabel” Liz smiled.
“Yeah congrats guys” the others all agreed.
“Wow, it looks like we wont be too spread out next year” Zan commented.
So far Serena, Kyle, Maria and Michael were all set to stay in Roswell. Zan would probably move back to Albuquerque along with Alex and Isabel since he was going into the family business with his father.
That just left Max and Liz and Zan new that they hadn’t decided but he hoped like Serena that they decided that they would settle in Las Cruses.
“Yeah, well except for Liz” Maria joked.
“I haven’t decided yet” Liz assured them.
“Just another thing you’re keeping to yourself Liz?” Serena bit out.
Liz flinched at her sister’s words and turned to her in shock. “What’s up with you?” she demanded.
“No, I think the better question should be what’s up with you?” Serena replied before she stood up and stormed out of the Crashdown leaving a confused group behind her.
***
“You ok?” Max asked as he approached Liz.
He knew that her run in with Serena had upset her and had wanted to talk to her about it. He had eventually found her sitting in the swing out the back of her house reading a book.
“Hey” she smiled as she closed the book and placed it in her lap. She wasn’t really getting that much reading done anyway.
Liz moved her legs then so Max could sit down before she placed them in his lap. Max’s hand immediately started to rub her small feet.
“Yeah I’m ok,” she told him.
“Have you spoken to Serena?” he wondered.
“No” she shook her head. “She knows where I am when she’s ready to talk. I’m not chasing her”
“Ok” he agreed.
They sat in silence for a few minutes both thinking about different things. Liz watched as Max struggled with something.
“What’s going on in that head of yours?” she asked.
“Well all that talk today at the Crashdown reminded me that we haven’t really made any decisions yet about what we’re going to do after the summer” he admitted.
“I know” Liz sighed.
“I know you’re going to Europe with Zan at some stage and I’m going to do this road trip with Michael” he said.
“But we have to make a decision eventually” Liz pointed out.
Max nodded. “Where are you leaning towards?” he wondered.
Liz sighed. “Boston is a dream opportunity and I can’t help but think that it might be easier for you to find work there,” she pointed out.
“But?” Max asked sensing that there was definitely a but in there.
“But it’s hard living away from our friends and family and it’s also really expensive in Boston. If I took the job in Las Cruses we’d be close to everyone and we’d probably be able to get a house rather than a unit.”
“You’re right,” he agreed.
“But what about you?” Liz asked.
“To tell you the truth I’m not really sure” he shrugged.
“I always expected that Isabel would go into the family law firm with dad and I didn’t even think about it when she changed her major last year but I guess that wont happen now”
“Is that something that interests you?” Liz wondered referring to his fathers thriving law firm.
Max thought about his answer before nodding.
Liz grinned. “Why didn’t you say something?” she said.
“It kind of creped up on me” he chuckled. “I heard Dad talking about something with Mum the other night and it just kind of occurred to me” he said.
“Well the firm is in Clovis that wouldn’t be a big commute from Las Cruses or we could live in between,” Liz pointed out.
Max nodded. “Let’s not worry about it until after we get back,” he said.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah I mean I should talk to my dad about it first anyway, he might not have room for me” Max shrugged.
Liz knew that Phillip would be stoked to find out Max wanted to work with him especially since Zan was going to work with her father.
“Ok” she agreed.
Neither realised as they sat together that a curious onlooker was watching them from the kitchen window.
***
“Were you ever going to tell me?”
Liz turned at the whispered sound of her sister’s voice in the doorway.
Liz studied her sister and what she saw in her eyes finally made things click.
“How did you find out?” she asked.
“I saw you the other night. That’s not even important though,” she said.
“We were keeping things to ourselves until after the wedding when we were going to tell everyone” Liz explained.
“I’m not everyone” she replied.
Liz sighed. “I’m sorry. I wanted to tell you so many times but I was scared,” Liz admitted sitting down. Serena walked towards her and sat across from her.
“Scared? Of what?”
“That you wouldn’t be happy for me”
“Oh Liz” Serena whispered.
Tears welled in Liz’s eyes as she turned to her sister. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you”
“It’s ok” Serena replied welcoming Liz into her arms in a hug. “I’m sorry I was such a bitch today”
“It’s ok” Liz told her.
“I love you, Liz and I just want you to be happy” she told her.
“Thank you, and I am. I promise I won’t keep any secrets from you again” she told her then.
“Good I don’t like feeling closed off from your life” Serena admitted.
“Me either” Liz agreed. “I’m so glad to be home,” she told her then.
More and more Liz knew that it would be almost impossible to move to Boston and away from her family again.

Part 47
“Ok, so Maria will go first, followed by Liz and then Serena, ” Isabel explained.
Tonight was the night of the wedding rehearsal and Liz could hardly believe it. The last two weeks had sped by.
Between wedding stuff with Isabel, Liz and Zan had been busy planning their trip to Europe that the Parkers had given them for Christmas. Liz was so excited. Her and Zan would be flying out two weeks after the wedding. Liz hated to leave Max for a month but he was planning on a taking a road trip with Michael to catch up.
But Liz knew she was also slightly relieved. If the announcement that her and Max were together upset their parents as much as Liz suspected it might be then it would be a great escape.
But the other thing was that with Liz and Zan’s departure it meant that Liz and Max had two weeks to decide where they would be living after the summer. Liz had been holding off making a decision but she couldn’t for much longer or the jobs wouldn’t be open for her.
“Does everyone know where they’re supposed to be?” Isabel asked.
Everyone nodded and Isabel smiled. Liz suspected that no one would have admitted they didn’t even if they didn’t but luckily this was their fourth run through and they all had it down pegged.
“Ok well that’s everyone, Dianne Evans told them.
“That means it’s party time, Whitman,” Kyle and Michael howled.
Tonight was the night of the bucks and hens shows. So the groups were all breaking up for the night.
The girls were headed to the Evans house where they were throwing Isabel a wedding shower and then the champagne and music would be broken out. The girls had been careful to plan something quiet and tasteful after Isabel had made it perfectly clear that there would be no strippers.
The boys were planning a bit more of a wilder night. All Liz was able to weasel out of Max that they were heading to a club, which they had hired out for the night. Max had confessed that Michael and Kyle had handled the on-site entertainment, something that Liz wasn’t too happy about.
Max waited for everyone to make their way out of the church before making his way to Liz who was also trying to dawdle but not make it look obvious.
“Hey,” Max smiled.
“Hey yourself,” Liz replied.
“I’m going to miss you tonight,” Max told her.
“Me too, maybe if you get back early you can accidentally come to the wrong house and the wrong room,” she teased.
“That might just be doable,” Max grinned.
“Have fun tonight, ok,” Max told her then.
“You too,” Liz said. “Please do me one favour though?” she asked.
“Anything,” Max promised.
“Look out for Alex. I know what Kyle, Michael, and Zan can be like and you’re the responsible one. Isabel will freak if something happens to him or he does something silly whilst drunk.”
“Ok,” Max agreed. “Besides I don’t want to have to deal with Isabel.”
“Come on, Liz,” Maria called out. Liz was catching a ride with Maria and Serena and the girls were all waiting for her right now.
“Ok I’ll see you later,” Liz said. She wanted to kiss Max desperately but she knew she couldn’t, yet.
“Leave your door unlocked,” Max whispered then.
Liz giggled. “Ok.”
***
“Oh my God,” Isabel squealed as she pulled the lingerie that Maria had bought her out of the box, well if you could even call it that.
It was two very small scraps of lace and Liz had no idea what is was supposed to be.
“What the hell is that?” she asked.
“Gees, Liz, use your imagination,” Maria laughed.
“I can’t. I normally have more to work with,” Liz replied causing everyone to laugh.
“Um thank you, Maria,” Isabel blushed.
***
“Another round,” Zan called to the bartender.
There were about 40 people in the bar that Max had hired for the night but right now it was only Kyle, Michael, Zan, Alex and Max who were drinking shots.
They were on their fourth shot of sambuca and Max could see the tell tale signs that most of them were almost drunk.
“Not for me,” Max called out.
“Cool, bro, I’ll drink yours,” Zan grinned.
Max pulled Michael aside then. “What did you guys organise?” he asked.
“It’s cool, Max,” Michael smiled. “Just wait and see.”
“Nah, man, please tell me that you didn’t hire a hooker or something because Isabel will freak.”
“Not a hooker, no,” Michael said. “But a stripper yes.”
“Michael,” Max groaned.
“It’s cool, bro, if Alex doesn’t want the show then Kyle or I will,” he grinned.
“Yeah because Maria and Serena will react so much better than Isabel,” Max told him.
“Good point, well you and Zan are single so you two can enjoy it.”
Max shook his head and walked towards the bar then.
“A beer please,” he requested.
***
“I wonder what the boys are doing?” Isabel said.
“Who cares!” Maria replied
“I just hope they’re behaving themselves,” Isabel said worried as she sipped her champagne.
“I’m sure they’re fine, honey,” Dianne Evans said.
“Besides Max was organising it wasn’t he?” Serena said. “He wouldn’t know how to get anyone into trouble,” she added with a snort.
“Actually Max only organised the venue apparently Michael and Kyle put themselves in charge of entertainment,” Liz explained.
“Oh shit,” Maria said.
“Oh God what would they do to Alex?” Isabel asked panicked. She had grown up with Michael and Kyle and she knew exactly what they were capable of.
“Isabel, calm down,” Liz said. “Max and Zan are there and you know they won’t let anything happen to Alex or let Michael or Kyle do anything stupid.”
Isabel took a deep breath. “You’re right,” she said.
“And if they do I’ll kill them all” she added.
All the girls burst out laughing then knowing that the boys wouldn’t do anything because they were all too scared of Isabel.
***
“Baby, are you awake,” Max whispered as he leant over Liz’s sleeping form.
“Hmm,” Liz moaned in her sleep.
Max looked at the clock and noticed it was almost four am; Liz was going to kill him.
He unbuttoned his shirt and pulled it off before kicking off his shoes and pants. He pulled the sheets back and slid into the bed behind Liz.
Liz stirred in her sleep. “Max?” she questioned.
“Yeah it’s me, baby, go back to sleep” he instructed.
“Are you drunk?” Liz asked tiredly, he sounded different.
“Maybe a little,” Max replied.
“Ok,” she yawned, Liz had only been in bed a few hours herself, and she was too tired to worry about Max right now.
“Night, babe,” Max whispered.
“Night.”
***
Liz moved restlessly in her bed, there was something heavy weighing her down and she couldn’t move.
She opened her eyes and sighed when she saw the sun was bright outside and she wondered what time it was.
Her head turned to the door then when she heard the knock.
“Liz, sweetie you better get up,” she heard her mother call.
Liz eyes widened when she caught sight of the Max lying next to her, naked chest and all.
“Fuck,” she cursed.
“Liz!” she heard her mother call again.
Liz started to shake Max frantically.
“Yeah I’m up, Mum,” she called out.
“Ahh what?” Max mumbled.
“Max,” Liz hissed. “You have to get up it’s like 10 o’clock in the morning.”
“What would you like for breakfast honey?” Nancy yelled through the door.
At the sound of Nancy Parkers voice Max sat up straight and looked at Liz wide eyed.
“Fuck,” he mouthed.
“Liz, sweetie?” Nancy called out.
“Get under the bed,” Liz whispered and began to shove Max. The only problem was that she shoved him a little hard and he landed on the floor in a thud.
“Liz, is everything ok? I’m coming in,” Nancy replied.
Liz looked frantically at Max but it was a waste of time, she could already hear Nancy opening the door.
“Liz, why is the door locked?” Nancy questioned.
Max slumped to the ground in relief.
“I’m not sure, Mum, I must have done it last night after a few drinks.”
On the other side Nancy Parker was getting very suspicious. “Open the door, Liz.”
“I’ll be out in a minute, mum, right now I’m not dressed,” she lied.
“Open the door, Liz,” she demanded again.
Liz looked at Max who still looked completely out of it from lack of sleep and she suspected he was still probably a little drunk. Max shrugged and Liz sighed.
She headed to the door and unlocked it before opening it slightly to stare at her mother.
“Yeah?” she questioned.
Instead of pushing open the door like Liz expected her to Nancy met her daughter eye for eye.
“You and I need to sit down and talk,” she told her.
“Mum can’t it wait till after the wedding? The next two days are going to be so hectic,” Liz whined.
Nancy nodded. “Alright then, but come Sunday, Elizabeth, we will be talking.”
Liz’s head dropped as her mother took a step away and she was just about to close the door when her mother stepped back pushed it open and looked straight at Max.
“Good morning, Max,” she said.
“Um, morning,” he replied weakly.

“You look beautiful, sweetie,” Dianne Evans gushed at her daughter.
“Thanks, Mum,” Isabel smiled.
It was a beautiful day for Alex and Isabel’s wedding.
“You ready, chica?” Maria asked.
“I think so,” Isabel smiled.
“Not quite,” Liz grinned.
“She’s right” Serena agreed.
“Ok, well you have plenty of new,” Liz told her pointing out the gorgeous designer gown that had been made especially for Isabel.
“Now for something borrowed,” Serena said and they waited for Liz to open the box in front of her to reveal the gorgeous drop diamond earrings.
Isabel gasped. “Oh my God they’re beautiful,” she said.
“They were my grandmother’s,” Liz smiled. “She and my grandfather were married for close to 50 years and she left these to me. I want you to wear them today and I hope that you and Alex will happy for as long as my grandmother and grandfather were.”
Tears instantly sprang to Isabel’s eyes at how thoughtful Liz was. “But don’t you want to save them for your wedding?” she asked.
Liz grinned. “I’ll wear them too, and hopefully Serena as well,” Liz replied her eyes just as teary as Isabel’s.
“Ok, enough you two or we’re all going to start crying and ruin our makeup” Maria objected.
“Thank you, Liz,” Isabel whispered as Liz pulled the earrings out of the box and helped Isabel replace them with the one’s she had on.
“You’re welcome, Iz.”
***
Liz could tell that Max was nervous as hell as he stood up to give his best man’s speech. She wasn’t sure what to expect when he spoke since he wouldn’t let her see what he was writing, but she knew that he had put a lot of thought into it and had spent a lot of time making sure that it was perfect.
“Love knows no limit to its endurance
no end to its trust;
Love still stands
when all else has fallen.
A quote from 1 Corinthians 13:7-8 “
The room was silent as Max started.
“When I was preparing things to say today about how inspired I was by the love that my sister shares with Alex I came across this quote and I wanted to share it with you because to me it says so much about love,” he spoke quietly into the microphone his eyes meeting Liz’s briefly.
“Isabel, you look absolutely stunning today. I’m so proud as your younger brother of the wonderful women you’ve become. You’ve picked a great guy in Alex and I wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
Alex, welcome to our family officially. You’ve been apart of our lives for so long now and I know I don’t need to tell you to treat Isabel like the princess she is, because you already do. You make her happy and I can tell from the smile on your face that she makes you happy too and that’s all we can ask for any of the people we love.
So if you would all raise your glasses in a toast to the wonderful couple, may the love they share continue to endure and inspire us all.
To Isabel and Alex!”
“To Isabel and Alex!” everyone cheered.
***
“They look so happy don’t they?” Max whispered as he held Liz close whilst they danced.
Liz nodded. “Yeah they do. Your speech was wonderful by the way.”
“Thank you,” Max whispered.
The wedding had been beautiful. Isabel ad Alex had both cried whilst reciting their vows to each other, which Liz thought was one of the most beautiful things she had ever seen, and so far the reception was going wonderfully too.
Liz and Max had both managed to avoid Nancy Parker who appeared to be observing them an awful lot, or maybe no more than usual it was just more noticeable to them both.
Liz was dreading the conversation she knew was to come. Her relationship with Max was now exposed and from first impressions it didn’t appear that her mother was over the moon and Liz suspected that Dianne Evans was going to react even worse to the entire thing.
“What are you thinking about?” Max asked.
Liz looked up at him and smiled. “Lots of things. Like how this will probably be the last time we’ll have to hide how we feel about each other.”
Max smiled too. “That sounds nice,” he agreed. “But that’s not what you’re thinking about,” he pointed out.
Liz sighed, “You’re right, but I don’t want to talk about it, lets just enjoy this wonderful night,”
“Ok,” Max agreed.
***
“You and Max looked like you were having a good time tonight” Isabel commented to Liz.
It was time for Isabel and Alex to leave the reception and Liz was helping Isabel change out of her beautiful gown and into the dress she had bought.
“Max wanted to tell you himself but I’m sure he’ll understand,” Liz said. “We’re back together.”
Isabel’s eyes lit up in surprise. “Since when?”
“A couple of months actually,” she blushed. “When Zan came up for spring break.”
“Why haven’t either of you said anything?” she asked outraged.
“Well it was so new at first and we were just enjoying it but then we talked about it and we knew that this time we didn’t want to hide things. We knew though that if we told our patents that it was probably going to blow up and we didn’t want anything to get in the way of this special time for you and Alex.”
“Oh, Liz,” Isabel sighed. “That was really nice of you.”
“This was the most special occasion in your life, you’re never going to do this again. Everything should be about you. Not me or Max,” Liz replied.
“Well for the record I’m so happy for both of you. I should have realised something was up. Max has been so happy since he’s been home.”
“We’re both really happy. Don’t worry about not realising. You’ve been busy and we have been doing our best to be discreet. Not that it worked very well.”
“Why?”
Liz sighed. “Well Serena caught us sneaking into the pool house for some alone time, and the other night Max came home drunk and came to me room instead of his own and my mother caught us,” Liz told her.
Liz was surprised when Isabel started giggling at her. “I’m sorry, Liz,” she apologised for her laughter. “It’s just funny hearing about how you’ve been sneaking around. You think by the time your reach 22 that your old enough that you can stop it.”
“I know,” Liz groaned unable to stop the grin that appeared on her face.
“So I take it tomorrow you’re going to have to come clean?” Isabel asked somewhat relieved that her and Alex would be on a plane by then and wouldn’t have to deal with any of it.
“Yeah, I put my mother off thankfully. I’ve just been waiting for her to tell my dad and your parents but so far no one has said anything.”
“Well good luck and a little bit of advice?”
“Would be welcome,” Liz told her.
“Don’t let what they say stop you guys from being together. Being with the person you love is the most important thing. They’ll get over it and eventually they’ll learn to deal with it.”
Liz smiled “Thank you, Isabel,” she told her.
“You’re welcome,” Isabel smiled stepping forward and hugging Liz.
“Thank you for everything today,” she whispered.
“It was my pleasure.”
***
“I can’t believe it’s all over,” Maria sighed as the group stood outside watching as Alex and Isabel’s limousine disappeared around the corner.
“I know,” Serena agreed.
For the past six months the girls lives had revolved around helping Isabel with wedding plans. It had helped them forget about graduation, which was looming and what they were going to do with the rest of their lives. Now that it was over both Serena and Maria were a little unsure about what they were going to do.
“It was beautiful though,” Liz spoke up. “They both looked so happy.”
“Yeah they did,” Maria agreed.
“So what are you girls going to do with all your spare time now?” Kyle joked coming up behind Serena and wrapping his arms around her.
“Well my suggestion was getting a jump start on organising your wedding,” Liz answered her face deadly serious.
“My wedding?” Kyle gulped.
“Yeah,” Liz nodded. She could see that she was starting to make Kyle sweat, her aim all along, and she loved it.
“Um why would you do that?” he asked.
“Well it takes a lot of work to organise the kind of wedding Serena has in mind,” Liz said.
Maria had to turn away so she didn’t break out in giggles. She could see what Liz was doing and she loved watching Kyle squirm.
“What about Maria and Michael, they’ve been dating longer?”
Liz couldn’t take it any longer and broke out in a fit of giggles.
“Oh Kyle you should have seen the look on your face,” she said.
“What!” he denied.
Serena broke out of his arms and turned around, her arms folded across her chest. “Does the prospect of marrying me really freak you out that much?” she asked.
“No!” Kyle denied.
“Right,” Serena said not quite buying his story.
As soon as Liz saw the look on her sister’s face she immediately regretted her joke. It was obvious that Kyle and Serena had a few issues they needed to work through and Liz had obviously brought them to the surface.
“Oh shit,” she sighed to Maria as Serena stormed off and Kyle chased after her.
“Don’t worry about it, chica, it’s not your fault,” Maria told her.
“How do you figure that?” Liz asked unsure as to how Maria had come to the conclusion that her little joke hadn’t been the cause of Serena storming off.
“Only us girls don’t understand the whole sibling rivalry, but lets just say that Serena isn’t really wanting to get married she just sees her big sister doing it and she wants that too. Add to the mix the rivalry Serena has had going on in her mind with Isabel her whole life you get that type of reaction.”
Liz didn’t point out that she wasn’t really an only girl, being that Serena and her were really twins because she understood what Maria was trying to say. Old habits were hard to break and apparently even though Serena’s self esteem and sense of belonging had changed dramatically in the last four years there was still a part of her that didn’t think she was worthy like Isabel. Hence the reason she was getting upset with Kyle.
“I’ll talk to her,” Liz told Maria.
“Good idea, chica,” Maria replied.

Liz sighed as she opened her eyes and rolled over to look at the clock. It was already ten o’clock and she knew that she couldn’t avoid going downstairs for any longer. She was actually surprised her mother hadn’t come looking for her yet.
She kicked the covers off and was just about to sit up when her phone sprang to life on the bedside drawer.
“Hey,” she smiled when she saw that it was Max.
“Morning,” he replied.
“Yeah you too,” she said.
“I’m on my way over,” Max informed her then.
“Why?” she asked. They didn’t have plans and although she was happy he wanted to spend time with her she knew her mum wasn’t going to let her avoid her any longer.
“You’re sitting down with your mum this morning aren’t you?” Max asked.
“Um yeah I guess,” Liz replied.
“Well I’m going to be there with you,” he informed her.
Liz smiled. “Really?”
“Of course. I promised you that I was behind you 100% this time so that included sitting through any lecture your mum plans on dishing out.”
Liz felt tears spring to her eyes. “You’re amazing do you know that?” she whispered.
On his end of the phone Max smiled at her words. “Thank you,” he replied. “But I’m not doing anything that a good boyfriend wouldn’t do, and what you deserve from me.”
“I love you,” Liz whispered.
“I love you too and I’ll seen you about fifteen minutes,” he told her before hanging up.
***
“You’re up,” Nancy Parker commented as Liz made her way into the kitchen.
“Yeah,” Liz replied as she opened the fridge and pulled out some milk to go with her cereal.
“Where are dad and Zan?” she enquired.
“Your brother is still in bed and your father had to go out do some things for the restaurant,” Nancy replied.
“Oh ok,” Liz said as she sat down at the table and poured coco pops into her bowl before adding some milk.
Nancy watched her daughter briefly and decided to take a seat across from her.
“I think now might be a good time for you and I to have that chat,” she told Liz.
Liz swallowed her mouthful of cereal and nodded.
“Max is on his way over,” she informed her mother.
“Why?” Nancy asked.
“Because you wanted to talk to us about our relationship didn’t you?” Liz queried.
“So the two of you are in a relationship now?” Nancy frowned.
Liz looked up at her mother and studied the expression on her face. She was saved from answer her question however by Max’s entrance into the house.
“Morning,” he greeted as he slipped into the seat beside Liz. He was tempted to lean in and kiss her but the room seemed a little tense and he didn’t think it would be a good idea.
“Morning, Max,” Nancy nodded. “I wasn’t expecting you to join us for this conversation,” she pointed out.
“I understand that, and I could leave if you didn’t want me here but it just seemed like I should be here if you wanted to talk about me,” he answered.
“How long?” Nancy asked simply.
Liz and Max had talked already about how much information to give their parents on their relationship and had decided that they didn’t really need to know about what happened while they were in high school. They would be honest about their feelings and attraction but leave out the angsty details.
“A few months,” Liz replied. “Spring break,” she added to be more specific.
“So your brother knows about this?” she questioned.
Liz nodded.
“And he’s ok with the fact that you’re seeing his twin brother?” Nancy asked.
“Yeah he is,” Liz replied. “He just wants the two of us to be happy, which we are.”
Nancy remained quiet for a few minutes just staring at the two of them; nothing in her expression gave away any hint to what she was feeling.
“I just don’t understand, Liz,” she eventually said.
“What’s not to understand?” Liz asked gently.
“He looks like Zan,” Nancy cried.
Liz smiled gently at her mother. “Sure there are similarities but when I look at Max mum I don’t see Zan,” Liz told her. “I would have thought you all of all people would have understood that,” she added.
“I don’t see Zan either but obviously you’re attracted to the way they both look, does that mean you’re attracted to Zan?” she asked.
“No!” Liz cried. “Of course I’m not. Max and Zan are two completely different people. How can you not understand that?” she asked. “I don’t just love Max because of the way he looks, sure I’m attracted to that, but he’s also this great guy, he’s intelligent, caring, and he makes me happy” Liz told her. “Max and Zan might share similar features but that is where the identical part stops, mum.”
Nancy remained quiet for a few minutes and neither Max nor Liz was sure whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.
“And this thing between you is serious?” she finally asked.
“Yeah it is,” Max spoke up for the first time. “We love each other and we plan on moving in together wherever we settle in a few months.”
“Oh God,” Nancy whispered her head dropping and her eyes closing. Her last hope had been that this was a fling between them and would be over soon enough.
Liz felt her eyes fill with tears at her mother’s reaction. She had done her best to prepare herself for the rejection she was certain they would get from their parents but it didn’t stop it from hurting.
“Say something,” Liz demanded then.
“What are you doing, Liz?” Nancy asked. “You could have had any boy. Your beautiful and smart, why did you have to choose your brother?”
“He is not my brother!” Liz cried jumping to her feet.
“Zan is my brother, and Max is his twin and they were mixed up at birth just like Serena and I. Despite yours and Dianne’s best efforts, mother, we are not all one big happy family.” Liz’s tears were falling freely now. “So have you told her?” Liz asked. “Have the two of you sat down and discussed how disappointed you both are with us?” she demanded.
“I haven’t said anything to anyone,” Nancy whispered. “It would have just upset them all before the wedding,” she pointed out.
“Well that’s just too damn bad,” Liz said angrily.
“Excuse me?” Nancy asked not quite sure she had her daughter correctly.
“What Liz is saying, Nancy, is that it doesn’t really matter how you, my mother or our fathers feel about this because it’s not about you,” Max explained. “Liz and I have felt this way about each other for a while and the only thing that stopped us from pursuing something was that we were afraid how you would feel about it.
Now we realise that we can’t be worried about you anymore. Being together makes us happy and as much as we hate that you all might not be able to accept it, that doesn’t mean anything is going to change. The decision has been made. Liz and I are together and as much as we would love for you accept that we’re willing to accept that you can’t.”
“So our opinion doesn’t even count?” Nancy asked angrily.
“No,” Liz whispered. She was openly crying now because she realised that she wasn’t going to get the happy ending she had hoped for.
“Well then I guess there isn’t much to talk about,” Nancy sighed. “I hope you plan on telling your mother, Max,” she added then.
“Of course,” Max nodded.
“So that’s it?” Liz asked. “Are you just going to pretend we don’t exist, are you disowning me?” she asked.
Nancy sighed. “Of course not you’re my daughter and I love you, I just don’t know what you want me to say, Liz.”
“I want you to be happy for me. I want you to see that Max makes me happy, that your daughter is in love and be happy about it. Just like Dianne was yesterday for Isabel,” Liz cried.
“I don’t know if I can, Liz,” Nancy whispered. It broke her heart to see her daughter so upset but she didn’t know what to say to make it better for her. She wasn’t happy about what was happening between Max and Liz and she didn’t think she could just pretend that she was.
“It’s just very hard to accept. We always thought you kids all thought of each other as siblings, family,” she pointed out.
“That’s how you wanted us to feel, Nancy,” Max spoke up. “Yes we’re all close but I doubt Zan considers Serena a sister anymore than I consider Liz a sister.”
Nancy sighed knowing that Max was right. Nancy has suspected for years that something was between Liz and Max and instead of dealing with it she had chosen to ignore it hoping that it was just a crush and would go away sooner rather than later. Now she was paying the consequences for that.
“This is such a mess,” Nancy sighed. “I just need to think about everything,” she told them. “I just need some time to think.”
Max and Liz both nodded and neither were surprised when she hopped up from her seat and walked out of the room.
As soon as she was gone Max pulled Liz towards him and onto his lap. Liz let the sobs out then and her tears fell against Max’s chest.
“Shh, sweetie,” he cooed rubbing his back, “it’s going to be ok, we’ll get through it,” he assured her.
Feeling bad for walking out the way she had while Liz was still upset Nancy walked back to the kitchen but stopped at the sight she found. It was obvious to her right then how much Max loved her daughter by the way he held her as she sobbed and talked gently to her. She felt her heart plummet when she realised that she was the reasons her daughter was sobbing her heart out. She also realised Liz was right. Liz had found a man that loved her and although Nancy didn’t understand it she should be happy for her.
Nancy was determined then that she would be.

Part 49
