"Well, that's a downer, isn't it," I say, trying to lighten the mood again. She looks a little hesitant about having let that fact out.
"So..." I change the subject. "You the only one in your family that's 'gifted'?" I do the little finger quotes in the air, grinning. "I'm an only child. Parents were a little freaked, but they got over it." I'm not sure why I'm telling her all this, but it's not often that we get new students, and talking keeps my mind off the fact that I want to shift so bad.

"Well, that's a downer, isn't it," He says and I nod my head slightly. "So... You the only one in your family that's 'gifted'?" He says with a grin, "I'm an only child. Parents were a little freaked, but they got over it."
I nod my head, again, "Yeah, my dad never thought less of me, though. He always tried to protect me from the world and it's harm." I hold up my hand and make a fist, looking at it I say, "I never used to have these, once the only gift I had was healing myself. So basically I can never die. But, then something happen and..." I trail off and extend the metal within closing my eyes as the pain took over. I don't know why I'm telling him this, but it's good to tell someone, it feels good, anyway.

I'm glad that I've never had parents that don't love me for who, I mean, what I am. Because I've got friends who've had parents ship them off, and I always feel sorry for them.

She trails off, and from her raised hand the blades shoot out again, almost instantly. It doesn't look painful, but I know from experience that things hurt more than they appear to...like shifting.
"I'm you're basic run of the mill shapeshifter, with a tendency to shift to the four legged predators and such," I explain nonchanlantly, willing my eyes back to the mountain lion form. "See?" I add, pointing up at them. "Oh, and I can do this," I say again, grinning as I teleport myself to appear behind her, in a mere second. "Fun, huh?"

"Oh, and I can do this," He says and dissapears in thin air. Where the hell did he go? "Fun, huh?" I hear his voice from behind and I twirl around. A little weirded out, but that 'gift' of his is cool. "I would give anything to do that." I say smiling

I hear a "Wow" even as I stand behind her, and I wait for her to realize that I've just teleported myself. She finally does, and turns around, her blades back in.
"I would give anything to do that." She says, sounding awed.
"Well," I say, feeling proud. "It took some practice, I kept ending up sitting down, or totally not where I wanted to be. It's more fun than shapeshifting, cause it's totally painless."

I turn, ready to pounce on this idiot who's talking like this to me without even a hello, then I see that he's actually kinda cute. I stop myself, swallowing the instincts that had risen at that rude interuption. I decide to skip the annoyed sigh, too, and instead try for semi-friendly smile. I'm not sure it works, 'though as I take the paper from his hand just a little too quickly.
"Yeah. You're at the right place. They said we were getting a couple newbies today. You want the principal's office. Right through there," I say, gesturing.
The guy looks a little annoyed, but still very cute, so I shrug. "Nevermind. I'll take you. My name's Maria, by the way," I say.

Someone grabs my paper, and I look up to see a pissed off girl holding it. "Yeah. You're at the right place. They said we were getting a couple newbies today. You want the principal's office. Right through there," The girl says sort of irritatedly, and I look in the direction but just see a lot of people milling about.
She shrugs at my confused look, and then changes her mind. "Nevermind. I'll take you. My name's Maria, by the way," she adds, slightly less annoyed. Good. It's not like I did anything to her.
"Thanks, my name's Jess," I tell her, and I follow through the crowd.
