Chapter 11

Liz slammed against the side wall as she and Max began to make out after locking the door.

He slid his arms around her waist, pulling her against him as they continued to kiss fervently.

She let out a soft moan as his hands slipped under her shirt and bra, caressing her breasts as she let out small moans.

"Mmmm...you feel so good," Liz moaned as he kissed her neck.
Max smiled, his lips meeting her own in a breathtaking kiss as she started to unbuckle his belt, dropping his pants to the floor.

"Sex in the eraser room?" he asked, grinning.

"Why not?" Liz asked him, pushing down her own pants. He grinned and slid her panties down her legs, kissing her deeply.

Next thing she knew, he whipped his cock out of his boxers, already hard as she wrapped her legs around his waist, sinking quickly down onto him, trying to be as quiet as possible.

She let out a soft moan, burying her face in the crook of his neck to stifle it.

"God, you're so tight," he moaned as he pounded into her over and over again letting out small grunts of pleasure.

"Ohh God," she moaned, softly biting down on his skin as he continued to ram into her.

Max closed his eyes, breathing heavily as he felt his release nearing, speeding up even faster for those last few seconds.

They both released at the same time, kissing passionately to stifle each other's moans.

"I don't think I'm going to be able to walk for a while," she said, laughing softly as she looked up at him and then at the bite mark on his shoulder, blushing a bit.

He laughed and softly pressed his lips to her forehead. "God I love you," he mumbled.

"I love...sex," she replied, laughing, "I never thought I would love it this much."

"Only because it's sex with me," he said, grinning at her.

"Well, I guess, but I don't know, you could be awful, and I'd never know," Liz said, grinning.

"Well then, maybe it's better if you don't," he said, chuckling.

"I suppppoooooosssseee," she said, heaving out a big sigh at the end before looking up at him through her lashes and smiling, pecking him on the lips before pulling her clothes back on.

Once they were both dressed, she reached for the door but he blocked her, kissing her passionately.

"We have to go Max," she whispered as a teacher passed.

"Ok...see you after 7th," he said, kissing her again before they both walked out.

Liz blew him a kiss before ducking into the girl's bathroom to wait out the remaining minutes of 6th period.

"Liz, thank God you're here!" Maria exclaimed, running over to Liz and hugging her tightly before crying her eyes out.

"Ria, what's wrong??" Liz asked.

"Michael...he told everyone that I'm pregnant," Maria told her.

"He....he WHAT?" Liz exclaimed as they got into Liz's car after 7th period.

"We...we were fighting in the hall and he screamed that I was pregnant...now everyone knows," Maria sobbed.

"Oh god...I'm so sorry Maria," Liz said, hugging her tightly as there was a knock on her car window. She looked up and saw Alex, a worried expression on his face.

Liz motioned for him to get in the back and he obliged, listening as Liz explained everything and Maria continued to cry.

"I'm so sorry Ria, really, what's with all of these assholes coming around lately? It's like some recurring thing, we should just kick them in the ass!" Alex said, getting at least a small laugh from Maria, "There we go, that's what I wanted, that smile."

"Thanks, Alex," she said quietly, dabbing at her eyes with her sleeve. "I'm glad to have you back."

"I'm glad to be back. Germany was cool and all, but no matter what, Roswell will always be home to me, unfortunately," he said as Liz pulled up in front of the Crashdown.

"Come on, Ria, I'll tell dad you aren't feeling well and you can go upstairs and take a nice, relaxing bath, or nap, whatever," Liz told her before she turned to Alex. "You'll help me wait tables, won'tcha, Alex?"

"Me? Waiting on people? Liz, I've never waited on anyone in my entire life! Plus, no one will want to order from a tall, gangly boy," Alex said.

"I don't care, Alex Charles Whitman, you are helping," Liz told him, getting out of the car, the other two soon following.

"Fiiiiiine, but if I break my arm, or leg, or something else, doing this, you are so buying me mint chocolate chip ice cream for the rest of my life," he replied, emitting a laugh from Liz.

"You got it," Liz replied, putting a comforting arm around Maria who still looked distraught.

"Go relax, order in a pizza, hire some male strippers, do whatever you want, okay?" she said quietly.

"Ok, thanks," Maria said, hugging Liz before heading upstairs.

"You are one great friend Liz Parker, you know that?" Alex asked as he put on the apron and took an ordering pad from behind the counter.

"I try," she replied, shrugging and smiling before going into the back to change.

She was about to start changing when her parents came down the stairs, "Oh Lizzie, hold on we have some news for you," Jeff said.

"Your mother and I have decided that you've shown yourself to be responsible, so we're going to allow you more privileges..." he said, trailing off as Liz interrupted.

"Privileges? Like what?" she asked, tucking her hair behind her ears.

"Max can...stay over, and...yeah. We're trusting you to be responsible, Liz. Your mother and I figured you weren't going to listen to us anyways after a while, so it would be better if we knew he was up there... But if your grades start to drop, or we catch you skipping, then it's off," Nancy told her.

"Ok, you can trust me! Thank you!!!" she exclaimed, hugging them both before they left so she could change.

~*~

"Hello,” Liz said softly, pulling Max close to her by the collar of his shirt before leaning up on her tiptoes to softly kiss him as he came in after her shift.

"Mmm...hello yourself," he said, grinning and kissing her back.

"So, help me clean up, and I'll tell you the good news," Liz said to him, handing him a broom.

"Good news?" He asked, taking the broom and starting to sweep.

"Very good news," she affirmed, cleaning the main counter, leaning over a bit to show off her cleavage, made by the wonder bra Maria had insisted she wear.

"Very, very good news?" he asked, grinning. "It doesn't have anything to do with where I'll be sleeping tonight, does it?"

"Well now, you'll just have to hurry up and finish sweeping so I can tell you, won't you?" Liz asked him.

That he did, and within a few minutes, he was done, sitting next to Liz at the counter.

"Hurry uuuuup," he whined, pouting as she stacked cups by the soda machine. "Hold on, I just have to go put these strawberries in the fridge, and pull out some kielbasa for tomorrow," she said.

He followed her into the kitchen, leaning against the doorframe as she put the strawberries into the fridge.

She bent over slowly as she put the strawberries next to the other ones, standing back up and reaching to get the kielbasa from the freezer, squeezing past Max, her whole body rubbing against his as she took it into the cooking area, putting it in the fridge in there so it could defrost.

When she came back out, Max immediately pulled her roughly against him, crushing his mouth to hers.

"My lord, Max, I haven't even told you the news yet," she said, grinning.

"Then tell me," he whispered, leaning down and kissing her neck.

"They, they being my parents, decided that you couldn't come within 50 feet of me ever again" she said, pulling back and looking up at him with serious eyes.

"What???" he exclaimed, gazing down at her with hurt-filled eyes.

"HA! Gotcha!" Liz exclaimed, laughing and kissing him.

"THAT wasn't very funny Liz Parker," Max said, pulling back and pouting.

"Fine then, you can't stay the night," she said, sticking her tongue out at him and turning away.

"Hold on, I didn't mean that, it was hysterical, really," Max said eagerly.

She giggled as he swept her up into his arms and kissed her intensely.

"Ok, not here boyfriend, let's go upstairs, my parents are still awake," Liz said to him.

"Oooookkkkkk," he said, kissing her quickly before taking her hand as they went upstairs.

"Maria's here, and I promised she could spend the night, so you're going to be on the floor," Liz told him right before they walked in.

"Well...you can just fucking die for all I care!!" Maria nearly screamed into her cell phone as Liz and Max entered the room.

"Maria, Maria! Calm down," Liz said, hurrying over to her as Max walked to Liz's dresser, taking some things he kept there out before going into the bathroom.

"It's all because of YOU people have been calling me a whore and a slut and every other foul name you can think of!" Maria cried as Liz tried to pry the phone away from her.

"Michael. Fuck off, and if you call Maria, or even LOOK at her, I will personally come over to your house and murder you," Liz growled into the phone before hanging it up.

"I just got fed up with people like Pam Troy and Vickie Delaney calling me a whore all afternoon so I called him and started yelling...I don't know, it was stupid," Maria mumbled, starting to cry.

"No, it's alright sweetie...it's alright. Do you want me to get you your eucalyptus oil? Or cypress, or whatever it is you sniff to feel better?" Liz asked softly.

"Would you? It's in my school bag," Maria replied and Liz nodded, going over to Maria's bag.

She pulled out the small bottle, handing it to Maria along with one of the Snicker's bars in her bag, taking out the baby book as well, "Okay...so it's the second week of November...and you've been pregnant since the beginning of October...so you're almost in month two. The morning sickness should stop...well by month four, but you won't be as...moody," Liz said.

"God, I hate this," Maria groaned as Max came out of the bathroom.

"Who was on the phone? I couldn't eavesdrop over the sound of the shower, unfortunately," he asked.

Maria started to cry again and Liz just shook her head. "Can I talk to you outside, Max?" she asked.

"Yeah, of course," he replied, grabbing his coat so that he wouldn't freeze since he was only wearing boxers and a t-shirt.

"Well, today, Michael let it slip to...oh...just about the whole senior class that Maria's pregnant," Liz told him.

"Wow, that sucks," Max said.

"Yeah. It does," Liz said. "Especially for your brother because if I ever see him again I will KILL him!"

"Hey, take it a little easy with him. I already told you that he's freaking out. He didn't plan on having children...at all, ever," Max told her.

"He hurt my best friend, Max," Liz said quietly.

"I know that, but he's my brother, he's the only family I have Liz," Max replied.

Liz sighed and shook her head. "I'm sorry it's just...Maria had this whole future planned out...she was gonna pursue a career in singing and everything but now...she can't," she said.

"Having a baby doesn't make you cripple Liz, and she has other options, you know," Max said, not wanting to fight.

"She is totally against abortion and if I know her at all, I know she'd never put the baby up for adoption...I'm sorry I'm taking this out on you but...she's my best friend and I'm scared for her," Liz said softly.

Max sighed before leaning forward and taking her in his arms, hugging her tightly, running his hand up and down her back, "You know...I'm going to have to buy some night pants, because my ass is freezing right now," he mumbled after a moment, grinning.

She laughed and said, "Yeah, let's go inside."

"Okay. Where do you keep the extra blankets, anyways? Because it's not much better in your room," Max asked as they stepped back in.

"Shut up...they're in my closet," Liz told him, laughing as she sat down next to Maria. "How are you, honey?" she asked softly.

"About to fall asleep. I'm just going to go pee, and then lights out," she said, getting up.

"Geeze, you're acting like a mother already," Max said sarcastically, earning a punch in the gut from Maria before she disappeared into the bathroom.

"So, I guess with Maria here that means we can't..." Max began, trailing off as Liz walked up to him, wrapping her arms around him from behind.

"Nope," she said, looking up at him.

"Ah well," he said, turning around and kissing her softly. "Have I told you today that I love you?"

"Yes, actually, remember, in the eraser room, 6th period?" she asked him.

"Ahh, who could forget?" he asked, smiling and kissing her again as Maria came out of the bathroom.

"Ok, you can stop having mouth sex now, I'm in the room," she said, going over to the bed and sliding under the covers.

Liz giggled and kissed Max quickly, mumbling a soft, "Love you," against his lips.

"Love you too," he mumbled back before grabbing her ass as she walked back to the bed.

She giggled and sat down on the bed, Maria scooting over as Liz slid under the covers.

"You comfy Max?" Liz asked him after she settled down and turned the light off.

"As comfy as I'll ever be," he said, grinning at her in the dark.

"I feel bad about making you sleep down there, all by yourself," she said.

"You could come down and join me," he suggested.

"Stay. Put," Maria groaned, pulling Liz back from the edge of the bed as she laughed.

"Oh, come on, Ria," Liz said, pouting.

"Just...at least wait until I'm asleep please," she said, glancing over at Liz in the dark, though there was a grin on her face.

Liz laughed and groaned, "Well sleep faster."

"Yeah, yeah whatever," she said before pushing her off the bed, "We do have school tomorrow, just to remind you." Liz laughed and crawled over to where Max was, kissing him softly.

"Come on in," he said, opening his sleeping bag and she crawled in, resting her head on his chest. "Max, your shirt's still on," she whispered.

"Do you wanna change that?" he whispered in her ear.

She nodded, biting her lip softly as he sat up and pulled his shirt off, throwing it over in a corner, "Maria, are you asleep yet?" Liz asked.

"No!" Maria exclaimed from the bed.

Liz laughed, pressing her face into Max's chest to muffle it.

About an hour later, Liz checked again if Maria was awake, grinning when she heard her snoring.

"Should I get duct tape? I mean, we have to be silent, she's a light sleeper," Liz whispered.

"...Are you up for a shower, Liz?" Max asked softly, a mischievous grin forming on his face.

"It depends..." she said, already standing up.

"On what?" he asked, standing up with her.

"If it's alone, or if it's with you," she said.

"With me, of course," he said, taking her hand and leading her to the bathroom.

"Well then, I guess that's a no, why would I have ANY interest in taking a shower with you?" she said softly.

He said nothing but laced his fingers through hers, leaning down and kissing her intensely.

"Ok, changed my mind," she whispered, shoving him into the bathroom, locking the door behind her, "Light on or off?"

"Off," he whispered, taking off his boxers and getting in the shower, turning the water on.

She smiled, reaching out for his hand blindly and stepping in the shower, fully clothed.

He pressed her up against the wall as the steaming hot water poured down on them.

She leaned forward, finding his lips easily and kissing him as he pawed at her wet t-shirt in frustration when it wouldn't come right off.

"Let me help," she mumbled against his lips, pulling back slightly and pulling off her t-shirt.

She threw it against the shower wall before pulling down her shorts and kicking them aside.

He nearly ripped her panties off her body, kissing her urgently as the room filled with steam.

"Max, you're all slippery," she whispered, a smile playing at her lips.

"So are you," he said softly, grinning as he wrapped his arms around her.

"How does this work?" she asked him as the water continued to flow over them.

"I uh...hadn't thought that out yet," he admitted quietly, chuckling a little.

"Well...we're in trouble then, aren't we?" she replied, giving him another searing kiss that sent shivers down his spine.

He suddenly lifted her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist, holding onto him for dear life.

"If you drop me, I'm never having sex with you again," she whispered into his ear, before taking his earlobe in her mouth.

"I won't I promise," he whispered, kissing her passionately.

She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck as he cautiously led himself to her opening, trying not to drop her.

She let out a moan as he entered her, letting out a grunt of pleasure himself.

He sped up his pace a little bit, almost dropping her at one point as he forgot he was holding her up.

"Sorry, baby," he whispered in her ear and she responded with a moan, her lips softly meeting his.

"You...you're still on birth control, right?" he asked her, realizing how unromantic it was after it left his mouth.

"What a time to be...asking," she said softly, the last word coming out as a moan as he kept ramming into her.

"Just making s...sure," he replied.

"Y-yeah...yeah I am..." she told him.

"Okay, because I didn't really want to pull o-ooouttt," he said, the last part coming out as a long moan as he came.

She came almost right after him, letting out a scream of pleasure, though he muffled it with a kiss.

"You have to be quieter Liz, your parents are next door and Maria is--awake," Max groaned as the bathroom door opened and the lights came on.

"I'd appreciate some quiet!" Maria exclaimed, slamming the door.

"Oops," Liz said, chuckling as she slowly lowered herself down Max.

"We should get back out there," Max said quietly, turning off the water.

"Yeah. I'll go out...you might want to wait a few minutes," Liz whispered.

"Ok," he said, kissing her intensely as she grabbed a towel.

"Night Max," she said, running her hand down his chest before going back into her room.

"You two are sick you just...you sicken me," Maria mumbled as Liz got changed.

"C'mon, you know I'd be doing the same thing if...well, you know I would," Liz told her.

"Yeah, I guess," Maria said quietly as Max came out of the bathroom.

"Goodnight...for real," she continued as Max got down into his sleeping bag after kissing Liz softly.

"You want me to stay down here with you?" she asked, kneeling beside him.

"No, you better not, I'll see you in the morning," He told her, "I love you."

"I love you too," she whispered, kissing him softly before getting into bed.

Chapter 12

"What do you want for Christmas?" Max asked Liz a couple of weeks later as they watched the newest episode of Friends.

"I don't know..." she replied. It was their weekly ritual: they'd study for a while, watch Friends...then have mind-blowing sex.

"Christmas is in a week and a half Parker. You better let me know quickly, or I'm going to have to get you socks," Max said.

"God, give a girl time to decide," she said, giggling a little. "How 'bout you? What do you want?"

"I don't know either, really," he said, laughing.

She let out a laugh and placed a soft kiss on his lips before turning her attention back to the TV.

"Liz! Could you come out here for a minute?" Her mother called from outside Liz's room.

"Sure, mom," she called back, glancing over at Max before leaving the room.

"Yeah?" she asked, stepping out of the bedroom and closing the door behind her.

"Sit down, Lizzie," her mother said, gesturing to the couch.

"What is it? Why are you guys acting weird?" Liz asked them, sitting down.

Her father sighed before reaching into his pocket, pulling out a plastic bag which held...what looked like a condom. "We found this in the trashcan in your bedroom yesterday," he said.

"You're...you're going through my stuff?" she demanded.

"Well...yes," her mother admitted.

"You have no right to go through my things! I can't believe you! I mean you gave me permission to have him stay the night, what do you expect mom, dad?" Liz exclaimed.

"We trusted you to be responsible, Liz," her father said, his voice surprisingly calm. "And after what happened to Maria...we thought you'd be more sensible than that."

"Why do think I'm using that mom? I am being responsible! And I'm not Maria!" Liz cried.

"Nonetheless...we think it would be best if Max didn't spend the night anymore," her mother told her.

"God mom this is not fair! You two are the biggest hypocrites I have ever seen!" Liz exclaimed before storming back upstairs and into her room, slamming the door shut and locking it.

"What's wrong, baby?" Max asked as she resumed her place next to him on the bed.

"Nothing," she snapped.

"Come on, Liz, something's wrong," Max said softly.

"They're a bunch of hypocrites!" Liz exclaimed, "They want me to be safe, and yet...ugh!"

"I take it I'm not spending the night?" he asked.

"They...they went through my trash bin," Liz started, sniffing, "And they found...well you know, and so I was trying to tell them that I was being safe, but....oh my god I hate them so much sometimes."

"Don't worry, Liz...they'll come around," he said reassuringly, kissing her softly before getting up. "But I think I'd better go."

"Max..." she said dejectedly.

"Don't "Max" me," he said, smiling a little. "If your parents don't want me to stay I'm not going to...I'll see you tomorrow."

"Fine...bye," she said, getting up and going into her bathroom.

"Hey, hey, heyyyy, come here," Max said, walking over to her and wrapping his arms around her. "They'll come around, ok?"

"No they won't! They won't Max! And it's really none of their business and they should just stay the heck out of my life! Let my business be mine! I'm 18 in 3 months, I could legally move out then, I could legally quit school right now if I wanted to!" she exclaimed, talking loud enough so that her parents, who were most likely outside her door, could hear.

"Liz, calm down," Max said soothingly. "They're just trying to do what's best for you."

"They don't know what's best for me if they're making you go!" Liz cried.

"It's not like they're saying you can't ever see me again," he said in an attempt to cheer her up.

"God Max, whose side are you on anyways? I'm your best friend, your girlfriend, and you're siding with my parents!" she said.

"Liz, try to think of it from their point of view. Would you want your daughter fooling around at 17?" Max asked.

"Is that what you think this is? Is that all we're doing? Fooling around?" Liz asked, hurt.

"No, Liz that's not..." he began but she cut him off. "Just leave, Max," she said quietly.

"Liz, please..." he continued, but she simply pushed him out of the bathroom with all of her might, locking the door behind him.

He lifted a hand to knock but lowered it, sighing before turning to leave. He went towards the door, but thought better of it, and grabbed his things, leaving from the balcony.

~*~

"Come on, Liz, you can't avoid me forever," Max said quietly as they worked on their AP Bio experiment a week later.

She responded by flipping her hair over her shoulder and concentrating on the microscope.

"Liz, please talk to me," he whispered, placing his hand over hers which she instantly snatched away.

"Mr. Seligman, could I use the restroom?" she asked, standing up.

"Sure," he replied, handing her a hall pass.

"Thank you," she said before quickly leaving the room and heading directly for the girls’ bathroom.

...Where she stayed until the bell rang. Max sighed and got up, exiting the room before anyone else and going straight to the girl's room, not caring that he wasn't supposed to be in there.

"Liz, you can't hide in here forever," he said.

"Go away!" Liz exclaimed and he realized her voice was choked with tears.

"I'm not leaving Liz, just come out," he said softly.

"No!" she cried.

"Uhm, excuse me...this is the girls bathroom," Pam Troy said, walking into the bathroom.

He ignored her and said softly, "Liz, please...I'm sorry."

"Oh, you're talking to her," Pam said, walking to a mirror and applying her lip-gloss.

"Is there a problem?" Max asked through gritted teeth.

"Well duh, she's a slut, I mean, you know what happened to her friend, she got herself knocked up...won't be long until you knock her up," Pam said, oblivious to the way he was glaring at her.

"Like you're any better, sleeping with Kyle while she was away last summer," Max hissed.

"She should keep tighter hold of her men," she said, flipping her hair over her shoulder and looking him up and down.

"I really don't know what you see in her...I mean, it's not like she's the hottest thing in the world, plus she has a reputation of cheating, I mean, look what she did to Kyle," Pam said coldly.

"You do know that she's in the bathroom, right?" Max snarled.

"Yup," she replied as the door to the stall that Liz was in swung open. "Hi there, Liz."

"You're a bitch," she merely said before storming out of the bathroom just as the bell rang.

Max glared at Pam before following Liz out of the bathroom.

"Call me if you ever get bored!" She called after him, an evil smirk on her face.

Max seriously thought of turning around and punching her in the face, but he decided to follow Liz.

"Mr. Evans, aren't you aware that only women are allowed in the women's bathroom?" The principal asked as he saw Max leaving the room.

He froze and turned to the principal. "Yes, but..."

"But nothing. Detention after school Mr. Evans, 3:00 prompt," he said, writing up a detention slip and handing it to Max before walking off.

Max shook his head and stuffed the slip into his pocket, groaning when he realized he'd lost Liz.

He sighed before making his way to his last period of the day.

~*~

Liz slowly started to turn the key in the lock as she locked up the Crashdown late that night when Max suddenly approached the door.

"We're closed," she said, glaring at him.

"Liiiiiiizzz!" he exclaimed, gazing at her intensely through the glass.

"Max, we're closed," she said firmly, turning the key all the way.

"Liz!" he called as she started to walk away. "I'm sorry about what I said! Liz, I love you!"

Liz stopped where she stood, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath before turning her head around, "I'm sorry Max...we're closed," she said.
With that she shut off the light and went upstairs.

Max sighed, placing his palm on the window as he leaned against the door, turning to leave as he saw her light coming on from the alley. For a moment, he thought of climbing up the balcony and to her window.

His heartbeat accelerated as he saw her walking around her room half naked, unaware that Max was watching her, and without thinking about it anymore, he briskly climbed up the ladder.

She started to strip off her clothes, heading into the bathroom to take a shower. Once he heard the shower turn on, Max slipped into the bedroom, walking silently over to her unlocked door and locking it.

She didn't hear him over the noise of the shower, for which he was thankful because he knew she'd flip out.

He quickly pulled his shirt over his head, and then discarded of his pants and boxers as well as he flicked off the light and stepped quietly into the shower, gently covering her mouth with his hand so that she wouldn't scream.

"M-Max?" she breathed as he slowly lowered his hand from her mouth.

He nodded against her cheek before kissing her softly. Her guard immediately melted as he slid his arms around her.

"What do you want for Christmas?" he whispered into her ear.

"You," she replied, a chill shooting up her spine.

"That could be arranged," he replied, kissing her passionately.
He gently pushed her up against the wall, kissing her with as much passion as he could muster.

Liz didn't realize she was shaking until her skin touched the cool tile, "You're shaking," Max mumbled as if reading her mind.

"I'm...I'm fine," she whispered.

"Are you sure?" he asked her, running his hand down her arm.

"Y-Yeah," she said softly, tears mixing with the water from the shower on her cheeks, though she didn't know why.

Max backed up in confusion as he heard her sniff, though she tried to cover it, "What's wrong?" he asked, turning off the shower.

She mouthed wordlessly as she continued to cry and Max took her into his arms.

"Shhhh...shhh baby it's alright...just tell me what it is," he whispered.

She shook her head and buried her face into his chest, tears still pouring from her eyes.

"It's okay Liz...it's okay, you don't have to say anything right now," he said softly, opening the shower and grabbing a towel.

He wrapped the towel around her and kissed her forehead, slipping his boxers on as they went into her bedroom.

Sitting down on the bed, he pulled her into his lap, cradling her softly as she cried.

"Does it have anything to do with what happened today?" he whispered in her ear.

"Maybe," she replied softly.

"Pam Troy is a bitch, you shouldn't listen to her," Max told her.

"But what if what she said was true?" Liz asked.

"Baby, it's not...she's the slut, not you," Max replied.

"I just..." Liz said, breaking off in mid-sentence and bawling her eyes out.

"Shhh, it's ok," Max whispered, wrapping his arms tightly around her.

He softly stroked her hair, feeling her breathing become steady and her tears stop. He kissed her cheek and laid the blanket over her, not sure whether he should stay or not.

He stood up, looking down at her tear-stained face, his heart breaking a little as he noticed how fragile she looked.

He reached out and stroked her cheek and she smiled in her sleep, bringing her hand up to cover his.

"Max lay down, it's the late," she mumbled, half asleep. He sighed and slid under the covers with her, taking her in his arms.

"Mmmm, I love you Max," she whispered sleepily.

"I love you too, Liz," he told her, kissing her softly before they both drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 13

"Max, my parents wanted to know if you would like to come over for Christmas dinner," Liz said to Max as they talked on the phone.

"Of course," he replied, smiling.

"Okay, great. So, come on over in the next hour or two for dinner, I haven't given you your present yet either," Liz said.

"And I have yet to give you yours," he said. "I'll be there soon, baby."

"Bye, I love you," Liz said softly as her mom walked by.

"I love you too," he told her as they hung up.

"Liz, could you help me in the kitchen please?" she asked.

"Sure, mom," Liz replied, getting up and walking over to the kitchen.

"Do you have anything that you'd like to tell me Liz?" she asked as she put a casserole in the oven.

"...No, mom," Liz said slowly.

"You sure? You've been acting weird lately," she said, glancing over at her in-between husking corn.

Liz gave her a small smile and shook her head. "Everything's fine," she said reassuringly.

"Okay, I was just wondering," she said, smiling over at Liz.

After a moment of silence, Liz said softly, "Actually, mom...everything's...not fine."

Nancy set down the bread she was cutting and looked over at Liz, "You can tell me anything Liz," she said.

Liz sighed and sat down next to her mother and told her everything: cheating on Kyle, Kyle's friends jumping Max...everything.

"Oh my God, Lizzie why didn't you tell me any of this? We used to talk about everything!" Nancy exclaimed.

"I'm sorry, mom," Liz said softly, wiping away a few tears.

"No, I'm sorry sweetie, sorry that you had to keep all of this inside of you," Nancy said softly.

"I guess I was just afraid to tell you," Liz said, smiling weakly.

"Don't be afraid anymore Liz, you can tell me anything," Nancy said.

"Thanks mom," Liz replied as the doorbell rang.

"That's Max, I'll get it," Liz said, smiling softly at her mom.

"Ok, sweetie," Nancy said, smiling at Liz as she left the room.

"Hey," Liz said, smiling at Max as she opened the door, snow falling softly to the ground behind him.

"Merry Christmas, baby," Max said, grinning and kissing her softly.

"Come on in, it's cold outside," Liz said, brushing some snowflakes off of his shoulder.

She started to brush the flakes out of his hand and rested her hands on his shoulders, grinning broadly as she moved her face closer to his.

"Liz, come set the table, and shut that door, there's a draft," Jeff said from the other room.

"Coming, dad," she called, kissing Max intensely before heading back into the kitchen. "Make yourself at home, Max," she told him.

"Okay," he replied, walking out into the dining area, "Is there anything I can do to help Jeff?"

"No, Max, just go out into the living room, Maria and Amy should be here any minute," Jeff told him.

"Okay," Max said, shoving his hands in his pockets.

He sat down on the couch as the doorbell rang. Liz came running out of the kitchen, flashing Max a smile as she did before opening the door.

"Ria! Amy! Come on in," she said, hugging them both, "Maria, pregnancy does you good, the flush makes you look gorgeous.

"Liz, I'm barely 3 months pregnant," Maria said, laughing.

"Still," Liz said, laughing as Maria and Amy joined Max in the living room.

"Dinner is served!" Nancy exclaimed as the ham was carved and the table finished being set, all of the other food being placed on it.

"Good, I'm starving!" Maria exclaimed, standing up and going into the dining room, Amy and Max following.

"Where's Alex?" Jeff asked, and a moment later they heard a crash coming from the storage room, "I guess that answers my question."

"I'm good!" Alex called and they all started laughing.

"Come on out Alex, dinner's starting," Liz said, laughing as he came out, smoothing down his hair and sitting down next to Maria. Liz took her place next to Max, placing her hand over his and smiling at him.

"Well...dig in!" Nancy exclaimed after Jeff said grace.

"Max, where's your brother...Michael?" Jeff asked about halfway through the dinner and a strange hush fell over the table, nearly every eye landing on Maria.

She though, stared intently at her food, pushing around her green beans with her fork, "Uhm," Max said, clearing his throat, "well he's in Seattle, visiting his grandparents, that was part of the agreement, well the reason we could move down here, if he came up there on vacations and for half of the summer."

"Oh," Jeff replied.

"He should just stay up there! Leave us the hell alone!" Amy suddenly exclaimed.

"Mom, please," Maria exclaimed, "could you just...leave him out of this for just tonight?"

"I'm sorry, honey," Amy said feebly, placing a comforting hand on her daughter's shoulder.

"Well...who wants pie?" Nancy asked after another moment of silence, everyone quickly finishing up their dinners.

When everyone responded that they did, Nancy got up and went into the kitchen to get it, Amy getting up to help her.

"Alex, my braniac man, why don't you help with the tree, make sure we set it up correctly," Jeff said after a minute.

"Sure thing, Mr. P.," Alex said, leaving the room with Jeff.

"So, and then there were 3," Liz said in a deep voice, smiling, "You okay sweetie?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," Maria replied, smiling weakly at Liz before standing up. "I'll be right back...nature calls," she said, laughing before slipping away.

"Wow...she's made it through dinner only going to pee....twice! It's a record I tell you," Liz said, smiling over at Max.

He grinned and stretched his arm around the back of her chair. "How has Christmas been for you so far?" he asked her.

"Pretty good. I got some new clothes, a few movies and cd's, nothing spectacular...oh, that reminds me, I'm going to give you half of your gift here, and the other half...upstairs," she told him.

"Upstairs, huh?" he asked, his eyes twinkling as he grinned.

"Yes, upstairs. I told my mom everything...so she's going to try to get my dad to be a little more reasonable," she told him.

"Well that's good," Max said. "I don't know how much longer I'd be able to go without making love to you," the last part he whispered in her ear, causing her to shiver slightly.

"Aww," she said, smiling. The one thing she loved most about him...well maybe not most, was that he could make her smile pretty much all the time.

He sighed and whispered, "I love that smile," before kissing her softly.

"I love that you make me smile," she whispered in reply, looking right into his eyes.
"I love you," he said softly, his gaze filled with passion as he kissed her once more.

Liz smiled and pulled back as Maria came back in the room, "Mouth sex again?" she said in a faux-disgusted voice, sitting down as Alex and Jeff came back in. Liz tried hard not to smile, the whole night Alex and Maria had been acting different, but in a good way.

"What's with you two?" Liz asked, giggling a little.

"What? Nothing," Maria said, scooting a little further from Alex. Somehow they kept gravitating closer to each other throughout the night.

"You're delusional, Parker," Alex said, a little too quickly, shooting a smile at Maria that he thought no one had noticed.

Liz giggled and bit her lip as the pie was brought out two pieces at a time by her mother.

After their pie, they all retired to the living room, the adults immersed in some conversation while Liz, Max, Alex and Maria all exchanged gifts.

"Okay, Liz you first," Maria said and everyone pushed their presents over to her.

She opened Maria's gift first (Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen, her favorite author) then Alex's (a gift card for Barnes and Noble, $100) before moving on to Max's gift.

She picked up the box, shaking it lightly and grinning before taking off the wrapping paper to find a long, rectangular, red velvet box.

"Lookee here, my sugar daddy got me some..." she began, trailing off as she opened the box. "Oh, Max."

He smiled sheepishly as she gently took out the necklace. It had a delicate silver chain, and from it hung a platinum floating heart, encrusted with an amethyst, Liz's favorite birthstone.

"Merry Christmas, baby," he said softly as he fastened the necklace around her neck.

"Max..." she said, placing her hand on it.

He smiled and gave her a quick kiss on the lips, hugging her tightly.

"Thank you," she whispered before pulling back, "Okay, Alex's turn!"

"Shucks, you guys didn't have to get me anything," he said, grinning as they slid their presents toward him.

"Well, duh we did," Liz said, punching him on the arm as he quickly unwrapped them, thanking everyone.

Next it was Max’s turn, and he opened Maria and Alex’s presents, thanking them for their gifts before opening Liz's.

"Okay, you'll probably hate it, I hate absolutely no clue what to get you, so yeah, don't hate me if you hate them..." Liz said, trailing off as he tore of the paper.

“Are you kidding, Liz???" he asked as he pulled out two tickets to the Super bowl.

"Yup, February 3rd. You, me, in New Orleans," Liz said, smiling.

"Thank you so much, Liz," Max said, kissing her lightly.

"No problem," she whispered, smiling against his lips as she pulled away, "Okay Ria, your turn."

Maria smiled and opened her gifts, thanking the three of them.

"Okay, so what does everyone want to do, until the adults are finished talking...which may be never," Liz said, laughing as they all went upstairs to her room.

"Let's play...truth or dare...minus the dare, I'm not feeling all that riskay," Alex said. "Oh come on Alex, you HAVE to include the dare!" Maria exclaimed.

"Yeah, that's the fun of it," Maria agreed, laughing.

"Oh come on Alex, you HAVE to include the dare!" Max exclaimed.

"Yeah, that's the fun of it," Maria agreed, laughing.

"Let's take a vote," Maria said, "All who want to play truth or dare say I!" Max, Liz, and Maria all said I simultaneously, and Alex begrudgingly said I a few moments later.

"Ok then, it's decided!" Liz exclaimed, giggling and turning to Maria. "Ok, Ria, truth or dare?"

"I'll start this game off with a dare!" she said, making herself comfortable up on Liz's bed.

"I dare you to kiss Alex," Liz replied instantly, grinning.

"Done," Maria said, "Alex get your ass over here, I don't feel like moving."
Alex blushed a little and sat down next to her, placing a hand on her neck and leaning forward to kiss her.

She met him halfway, giving him a quick kiss on the lips, smiling ever so slightly as she pulled away.

But then, he did what no one expected and captured her lips again, kissing her passionately.

Liz grinned, nudging Max with her elbow as they finally pulled back.
Max grinned as well, laughing as Maria's cheeks turned bright red.

"Uhm...well," Maria said, "Max, truth or dare?"

"Truth, I guess," Max replied.

"Truth eh?" she said, clearing her throat, "When did your feelings for Liz turn into something deeper than friendship?"

"...The day I came back to Roswell," Max said quietly.

"I've...I've always been in love with her," Max said slowly, glancing over at Liz.

"What?" she asked, turning to face him more.

"You heard me, Liz," Max said softly, facing her all the way now.

"How...how is that even possible?" Liz asked him.

"You've always been more than a friend to me, Liz...it just took me a little too long to realize it," he told her, taking her hand in his.

"...Even when we were little?" She looked deep into his eyes.

"Even when we were little," he said, returning her gaze.

"Wow," she whispered, looking down at their latched hands.

He brought her hand up to his lips and kissed it softly, laughing a little as Alex and Maria said, "Awwwww."

Liz blushed and stuck her tongue out at them before moving so that she was sitting in between Max's legs, "Alex, truth or dare," Max said as she settled down.

"I think I'll take...dare," Alex replied.

"I dare you to go ask Jeff how to use a condom," Max said, the whole room bursting out into laughter.

"Ok then, Evans, but I'll get back at you," Alex said, standing and turning to leave the room.

"Oh my god he's actually doing it?!?" Maria cried, almost dying out of laughter as Alex walked out.

Alex returned fifteen minutes later, his face a deep shade of red.

"Oh my God, what happened?" Liz asked, leaning forward and grinning.

"He...gave me...the talk," Alex said slowly as if it were all too traumatizing to talk about.

"Did he??" Liz asked, laughing, "I'm sorry, but now it's your turn."

"Miss Parker, truth or dare?" he asked her.

"Dare," Liz said, leaning back against Max, who wrapped his arms around her.

"Dare huh?" Alex asked, thinking for a moment.

"Yes, dare, and it better not be like...eat a raw egg or anything," Liz said, laughing.

"Aw man, you saw right through me," Alex said sarcastically, laughing.

"Haha, hurry up," Liz said, smirking.

"Hmm...ok, I dare you to...kiss Maria," Alex said, grinning mischievously at Liz.

"Like we haven't kissed before," Liz said, leaning forward and crawling over to Maria.

"So that's what you do at your sleepovers," Alex said, laughing as Liz covered Maria's mouth with hers.

"Might as well make them excited," Liz whispered to Maria, a wicked gleam in her eye as she kissed her.

Maria grinned and slipped her tongue into Liz's mouth, moving her arms around Liz's waist.

"I officially love you forever Alex," Max said as they continued to kiss.

"Don't mention it, buddy," Alex said, not able to take his eyes away from the girls.

After another minute, Liz even letting out a couple of moans for good measure, she pulled back, winking at Maria before returning to her spot in between Max's legs.

"Ok, Ria, truth or dare?" Liz asked her.

"Truth, hot mama's had enough dares for a little bit," Maria said, laughing.

"Ok then...how do you really feel about Alex Charles Whitman?" Liz asked.

"I guess, I like him, a lot. He's always been my best friend, but I guess it's taken me getting my heart broken, and getting pregnant to understand that he's always been there for me, and...well yeah," Maria said, laughing.

The room was silent for a while until Alex put his arm around Maria and whispered something into her ear which caused her to smile.

"So...is the game over?" Max asked, his arms wrapped around Liz snugly.
Neither Alex nor Maria answered as Alex softly pressed his lips against hers.

"I guess that's a yes," Max whispered into her ear, laughing a bit.
Liz giggled and nodded. Alex and Maria broke apart, both smiling at each other. "Well, if you guys don't mind...I have one more present to give Mr. Evans," Liz said, her eyes twinkling as she grinned.

"Okay, we're going to go back downstairs...Max you might want to come until Liz's parents decide to make up their minds about...certain matters," Maria said, "that way you can give Liz some time to prepare..."

Max chuckled and kissed Liz quickly before joining Maria and Alex downstairs.

Chapter 14

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah," Liz sang as she sang along to an old favorite song of hers, Someday We'll Know by Hall and Oates.

"Knock knock," came Max's voice from outside the door.

"Someday we'll...oh, hey Max," Liz said, stopping in midsentence as he opened the door, walking in.

His eyes bugged out of his head as he saw what she....wasn't wearing.

"So, what did my parents say to youuuuu?" Liz asked him, walking seductively over to her stereo and turning on the cd she had placed in there.

"They...uhm...they said I can...stay the night..." Max said slowly as she walked over to him.

"So, lock the door," Liz said, laughing as she drew the shades on her window. Max walked over to her and she pushed him back on her bed, straddling, "So...I wanted to talk to you about something."

"What would that be?" he asked, reaching up and brushing a strand of hair from her face.

"After tonight...no more sex," she said, pausing to let it sink in, "For a month. I want to see if we can last even though the relationship won't be nearly as physical."

He thought for a moment before saying, "For you, mi querida? Anything."

She giggled and asked him, “Mi querida? What's that mean?" "My sweetheart, in Spanish...and that's what you are, Liz," he told her softly.

"I love you," she whispered, kissing him softly.

"So...no sex, but what are my boundaries?" Max asked.

"Anything above the groin, is allowed, oh and you can touch yourself all you want, but you just can't touch me, down there anyways," she said, grinning mischievously.

"You torture me, woman," he said, grinning before kissing her.

"Yeah, but you love it, boyfriend," Liz said, smiling.

"I love you, girlfriend," he said, suddenly flipping her around so that he was above her.

"You're quite a ferocious one, aren't you?" she giggled, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"I thought you liked ferocious," Max said as he pinned her arms above her head.

"Well, I haven't seen ferocious Max yet, so I wouldn't know," she said, smiling coyly.

He grinned and kissed her fiercely, letting go of her hands for only a moment so that she could lift his shirt over his head.

"I love your manly muscles," she said, running her hand over his chest.

He grinned and kissed her again as she did away with his pants as quickly as his shirt.

"You have such nimble fingers," he said, kissing her passionately, his tongue slowly snaking into her mouth.

"Mmm...why thank you," she moaned, wrapping her arms around him.

"I like your garment...scratch that, love your garment...too bad I have to take it off," Max murmured as his hands sought out her breasts.

"That's...that's fine with me," she breathed as he undressed her.

"God you're beautiful," he groaned upon taking it off of her.

"You're not too bad yourself, Mister," she said, laughing.

"I would hope!" he exclaimed as she took the rim of his boxers, pulling them down his hips.

Once they were gone, Max's lips met hers, slowly kissing his way down her body.

Her small body writhed beneath his as his lips latched onto her breasts, suckling greedily as she let out a soft moan, realizing her parents were probably downstairs.

She reached her hands up, running them through his hair as he continued to pleasure her.

"Mmm, make love to me Max, it has to be quick, I'm sorry, but my parents will...will be up to check on me soon," Liz moaned.

"As you wish, mi querida," he whispered, kissing her as he slowly slid into her.

She bit her lip as he pushed deeper into her, "Oh god...Max I don't take Spanish, but I do take French, oh god, plus rapide!” she cried out, Max sensing the urgency in her tone and speeding up.

He let out a low grunt as he pounded into her over and over again, not wanting their last love making for the next month to end so abruptly.

She cried out his name over and over as she felt her release, his coming soon after. "Mmmm...I love you, Max," she moaned, kissing him.

"I love you too. God...that was that last time I'll be able to make love to you...for another month," he said, groaning, "but I'll do it, for you I'd do anything."

She smiled and lifted a hand to stroke his cheek. "Thank you," she whispered.

"No problem baby. Anyways, I think that it will be you, not me, who relents first; who comes begging for a hunk of this bad boy," Max said, laughing.

"Nah...I'm a lot stronger than you think," Liz said, giggling.

"We'll see about that," he said, smirking at her.

Liz giggled some more and kissed him on the cheek, standing up and going over to her dresser for pajamas. "You still want to spend the night?" she asked.

"Of course!" he said, pulling on his boxers and a t-shirt, tight enough to show some of his muscles through it.

"Good," she said, smirking as she walked over to him.

"My parents are going to Florida in 2 days, to visit my Aunt, so I'm going to have the house all to myself. The Crashdown's closing, too, so I won't have to do anything at all," she said.

"And you tell me this after you make me promise to abstain from making love to you for a month," Max said, groaning, but smiling nonetheless.

"Yes, it's the ultimate challenge Sir Max," she said, kissing him tenderly.

"You're just lucky I love you," he said, taking her hand as they walked back over to the bed.

Once underneath the covers Liz snuggled into his warm embrace, molding perfectly against him, a content smile playing on her lips.

"Good night and Merry Christmas," he said softly, stroking her hair until she fell asleep.

~*~

"I do love shopping, oh so much," Liz said, sighing in content the next day as she and Max walked through the mall, which was packed with the day after Christmas shoppers.

"I do hate shopping, oh so much," Max grumbled and Liz laughed, hitting him lightly.

"Liz...long time, no see," a voice said from in front of her when she turned around, causing her blood to turn cold.

"Kyle," she said curtly, looking up at him with eyes full of...well, hate.

"Have a good Christmas?" he asked her, not even acknowledging Max.

"Good, and yours?" she asked him.

"It was pretty good I guess, sort of boring," he said, shrugging.

Max glared at Kyle and put his arm around Liz. "Come on, querida, we should be getting back," he said.

"Bye Kyle," Liz said coldly as Max leaned down and kissed her. They walked away, leaving Kyle staring incredulously after them.

"You are a devil Max Evans," Liz whispered, grinning at him.

"Why thank you, Liz Parker," Max replied, grinning as he kissed her again.

"So, let's take my things back, and then we can go out and do something, staying in is boring," Liz said, resting her head against his shoulder as they walked out to his car.

~*~

Later that night, Max and Liz laid on a blanket in the park, gazing up at the stars even though it was December. It was just like old times...except now thinks were different...better.

Liz shivered as it started to snow and Max wrapped his arm around her tightly, Liz resting her head in the crook of his shoulder as he guarded her from the cold.

He kissed the top of her head as they just sat there in the snow, wrapped in each other's arms.

"...Marry me..." Max whispered, barely audible, his warm breath tickling her neck as her eyes widened slightly. Her breath caught in her throat, making her unable to speak.

Max adjusted himself so that he was up on his elbow, looking down at her, "Marry me," he said, a little more confident this time.
Still speechless, she nodded, a wide grin forming on her face.

"Really?" Max asked, a large smile lighting up his entire face, "We don't have to like...now or anything, but, you will?"

She nodded again, tears of joy now filling her eyes. "Yes! Oh Max, of course!" she exclaimed.

"You don't know how relieved I am that you said that," Max said, laughing as he leaned down, giving her a soul searing kiss.

A shiver went throughout her body, the kiss seeming to spread from her lips to her heart, to her soul, warming her all over.

"We should go camping sometime, you know? Like we used to. It's too cold out now, but sometime, we should," Max mused after their kiss finished and they were back in each other's arms.

"Sounds like a plan," she replied, grinning.

Her eyelids slowly got heavier and heavier, and she closed her eyes, taking a deep breath before she let herself doze off in his embrace.

~*~

Liz awoke the next morning to find herself in bed, Max's arms wrapped around her. She glanced at him and smiled, remembering what had happened last night in the park.

A sigh of content passed her lips as thought of how wonderful everything was going to be.

She was finally in the arms of her one true love, someone who cared about her. She couldn't help but lean over and kiss Max's cheek, causing him to stir slightly.

He smiled in his sleep, his eyes fluttering open the next moment as he woke up, smiling at her, "Good morning gorgeous," he said in a half yawn, scratching at the stubble that had appeared overnight on his face.

"Morning," she said softly, smiling sweetly at him.

"Liz! It's time for you to get up!" Jeff said from outside the door, knocking twice before moving on.

Liz sighed and kissed Max softly before sitting up, stretching her arms.

"You staying for breakfast?" she asked him, walking over to her dresser.

"Yeah, if it's alright," he said, standing up and moving his neck from side to side to get the kinks out.

"You should just move in, I mean you stay here pretty much every night," Liz said, laughing.

He laughed along with her and suddenly stood up, running over to her and scooping her up in his arms, kissing her passionately. "God, I love you," he mumbled.

"I love you too baby, but I won't be around much longer to love you if I don't get out to breakfast," she said, laughing.

"Ok," he said softly, grinning and kissing her again as they got changed and went to breakfast.

~*~

Liz sighed as she stepped off of the plane and back onto New Mexican turf. They had just gotten back from their week long trip to New Orleans to see the Super bowl.

Not that she enjoyed football all that much, she just enjoyed seeing Max happy and knowing that she had made him happy. Of course, having him all to herself for a whole week was definitely a perk.

Always one to be on top of her studies, Liz had gotten all of their homework for the week, and had practically forced Max to do his.

The game had been exciting enough. New England beat St. Louis 20 to 17. Liz looked back to see Max following her and smiled as he caught up to her, took her hand in his and stroked it softly with his thumb.

Liz had gotten Max to extend their month a little bit longer, not able to...perform during the week when the month was supposed to end, the week before the Super bowl, but she had made up for making him wait more than once, once they were in New Orleans.

She smiled at him and glanced down at her left hand, sighing in content. Max had gotten her an engagement ring. Nothing too big or extravagant...small and elegant. They were planning on getting married that July.

Her parents had no clue, but they knew that they had to tell them eventually. After putting their bags in a taxi, Max helped her in, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and kissing her head, "I have to start work tomorrow," he whispered softly.

"Aw, Max is a big boy now, got himself a job!" Liz exclaimed playfully.

"Shut up," he said, kissing her nonetheless. He had gotten a job as an intern at a local law firm.

They were silent the entire ride home, Liz curled up in his arms as she dozed off, tired from the trip and the flight home.

"Jet lag killing you?" he asked her as they got out of the taxi half an hour later, Liz groggy from sleep.

She yawned and smiled sleepily at him, resting her head against his arm. "Shut up," she said, though it came out as more of a yawn.

"Let's get you up to bed, I'm going to go check in on Michael, make sure he didn't burn down the apartment," Max told her.

"Yeah...I'm going to call Maria up, see how she's doing," Liz said.

"Give her my best," Max said as they stopped at her front door.

He leaned forward, kissing her softly on the lips before going to his car, which was parked in the alley besides the Crashdown.

She smiled softly as she watched him go, sighing before going into the house.

Chapter 15

"Max, wakey, wakey," Liz said, shaking him awake as she plugged her nose. She had decided that she'd pick up Max for school, at his apartment, and she was almost regretting it. It was so unkempt and it smelled, BAD.

"Noooo," he groaned, pushing her away.

"Max, it smells in here, and we're going to be LATE for school. Now if you want to skip, that's fine, but you're going to be CLEANING this dump all day," Liz said, shaking him again.

"Ok, ok, I'm up!" Max exclaimed, slowly sitting up.

"Yeah, that's what I thought," Liz said, ruffling his bed hair affectionately before walking over to the little kitchen.

She opened the refrigerator door, promptly closing it as the smell got worse.

"Ever heard of baking soda?" Liz exclaimed, laughing, but abruptly stopping as Michael came out of his bedroom, rubbing his eyes, Pam Troy following him.

"Oh, hi Liz," Pam said groggily, giving her a smile and walking out into the living room.

"You...you fucking BASTARD!" Liz nearly screamed, as she stared daggers at Michael.

"Liz," he began, but she launched herself at him, punching every place she could on his body.

"You...fucking...jackass!...Got....Maria...pregnant...irresponsible...piece of SHIT!" Liz screamed in-between punches.

"Liz!" came Max's voice as he ran into the room, trying to pull Liz off of Michael.

"BASTARD!" She screamed once more as Max had to literally pull her off of him.

Max shot Michael an apologetic look before dragging Liz into the next room.

"Max, if you WANT to have a fiancée tomorrow, then you will let me go kill his ass right NOW!" Liz exclaimed.

"Liz, calm down!" Max exclaimed, making her sit down on his bed.

"Max, do you know how much he is hurting Maria? Do you know how much he has changed her life? She wanted to go to college, and sing, and she can't do that with a baby Max! She can't pay for college and pay to raise a child!" Liz exclaimed in fury.

When Max didn't reply, Liz let out a deep breath and stood up. "Just...I don't know, I gotta get out of here," she said, turning to leave.

She let out a deep breath as she approached the front door, "Well…now I know where your priorities lie," she whispered before leaving.

"Liz, wait!" Max called as the door slammed shut.

~*~

Liz's car screeched to a halt as she pulled up in front of the school, slamming her door shut and pulling her ring off of her finger, gazing down at it with shaking hands for a second before stuffing it in her glove box.

She slung her backpack over her shoulder and stormed into school, everyone getting out of her way as it was clear that she was mad.

"Slut," she heard someone hiss as she walked by, Liz halting in her tracks to turn around, glaring the girl in the eye.

"Shut. The FUCK up you good for nothing cheerleading whore!" She hissed before whipping her head around and walking towards her locker.

"Whoa...Liz...what's goin' on?" a voice asked and she turned around furiously.

"Nothing, Kyle," she spat, opening her locker.

"Liz, please. We were dating almost 2 years. I know when you're pissed, and I know when you're upset. The way it looks, you're a bit of both right now," Kyle said.

She slammed her locker shut and stared down at the ground, letting her hair fall in front of her face.

"Come on, tell me what it is," Kyle said, placing his hand softly on her arm.

She felt tears hit her face and before she knew it, she was in Kyle's arms, sobs racking her whole body.

"Hey, it's okay...what did he do Liz?" Kyle asked softly. He didn't know why he was here, comforting her, but as he held her crying in his arms, he made up his mind, holding her a little tighter.

"He just...and then Michael...and then he..." Liz gasped through sobs, burying her face into Kyle's chest.

"It will be alright, it will Liz," Kyle whispered, kissing her on the forehead just as Max stepped into the school.

Kyle fell silent and Liz looked up, seeing Max, though she couldn't see well through her tears.

She sniffed before placing her head back on his chest, her ring less left hand visible on his arm.

Kyle glanced over at Max one last time before kissing Liz's head, stroking her hair softly.

"Take me to English Kyle," she said softly as the warning bell rang throughout the hallways.

"Sure thing," he said, taking her hand in his as they walked down the hall.

~*~

Liz almost skipped AP Bio later that day, if her teacher hadn't seen her in the hallway earlier, it would've been a sure thing, so now she walked to class slowly, her feet dragging along the cold tile floors.

She walked into the room, thankful that Max's seat was empty. She took her seat and opened one of her newest books, waiting for class to begin.

She felt his presence as soon as he stepped foot into the room, the hairs on the back of her neck sticking up with anticipation.

He sat down without a word, staring down at his hands which were placed on the desk.

"Today, you and your lab partner are going to be continuing your work on your finals, which are due next Tuesday, if you were absent yesterday, come to my desk, I'll tell you what to do," Mr. Seligman said to the class before turning around and sitting down at his desk.

Liz glanced over at him before standing up. They were both absent the day before, having decided to take a day of rest after their trip.

"Ms. Parker, welcome back," he said dryly as she approached his desk, "You have all of your makeup work I assume? You too Mr. Evans?"

"Yes, Mr. Seligman," Max said, his eyes and his attention focused on what Mr. Seligman was saying, trying not to look over at Liz.

"Okay, good," he said before giving them all of the information they needed to do their finals, which would be a project.

They returned to their seats, neither saying anything or making eye-contact.

Liz pulled her hair back in a ponytail as she reached for the paper which was in front of her, Max reaching for it at the same time.

Their fingers brushed against each other, both pulling away instantly.

"Uhm, so I was thinking I'd do the research...you can do the...physical work," Liz said, reaching for the paper when she was sure he wasn't going to.

"Right," he replied, hesitantly looking up at her.

She blinked before looking back down, biting her lip nervously as she played with the end of her ponytail, reading the paper.

After a moment, he slowly reached for her hand, letting his fingers slip through hers.

She closed her eyes, a tear slipping out as he held her hand tight in his, not letting go.

"I..." she began, not able to finish as another tear fell from her eye.

His other hand was wiping away her tears a moment later, gently, "Can we talk, Liz? After class?" he whispered.

She swallowed her tears and nodded wordlessly, closing her eyes and taking her hand away from his.

She sniffed and wiped her nose before picking up her pencil and beginning to write down information, Max doing the same in his seat until the bell rang.

They both got up at the same time, walking out of class together, neither saying anything.

Liz thought that maybe he had changed his mind, until she felt his hand, gently pulling her in another direction until they were out of the school.

He took a deep breath and whispered, "You're not wearing your ring."

"I know," she replied, looking down at her hand.

"I...saw you with Kyle," he said softly, his gaze fixed on her.

"I was upset. I had every right to be comforted," she said in reply.

"I know," Max said, running a hand through his hair, something he always did when he was upset.

"Max, I have to get to class," Liz said after another moment of silence.

"Yeah...yeah, me too," he replied. They were silent again until Liz whispered.

"I...I can give you the ring back after school...just stop by the Crashdown, I'll be there," and with that, she was gone, leaving Max filled with shock, hurt and sadness.

~*~

Max clutched the steering wheel of his old Chevelle as he drove to work. He was half tempted to turn the car around and go to the Crashdown, try and talk things out with Liz, but he knew that wouldn’t be so easy.

He couldn't believe what had happened today. She was giving him back his ring. They were over. It was all he could do from breaking down right then and there in the car.

Maybe he had just been fooling himself this entire time. Getting married out of high school sounded like such a perfect plan to him back when he thought about it, but he didn't know now.

He pulled into the law firm's parking lot, turning off the car and resting his head against the steering wheel, letting out a long, deep breath.

After a few moments he glanced down at his watch and sighed before getting out of the car and heading in for work.

~*~

Max slowly got out of the car and started toward the ladder to Liz's balcony. After work, he bought Liz a bouquet of white roses, her favorite.

Sticking them in the crook of his shoulder, he quickly scaled the wall and jumped softly onto her balcony, bending over to look in her window.

He saw she was in her bed, under the covers and reading a book, totally unaware of his presence.

He let out a soft sigh as he gazed at her, she was so beautiful even then.

He moved to open the window, his face falling when he realized that it was locked.

Her head snapped up and she saw him, frowning slightly before getting up.

She picked up something on her nightstand before going over to the window, unlocking and opening it.

Before she could say anything, Max took his arm out from behind him, holding out the flowers, his eyes locking on hers as he held his breath in anticipation.

She took his free hand in hers, placing the small ring in his palm and closing his hand over it.

He looked down at their hands before looking back up at her, "...Liz, we can work this out," he said softly.

"I don't...I don't think we can, Max," she said quietly, her voice emotionless.

"Liz, we had one fight! Are we just going to quit after every fight? Are you going to...going to go running for another man's arms?" Max asked her.

"I didn't go running into Kyle's arms, Max...he was there and he comforted me," Liz said, her voice now choked with tears.

"That's what I'm here for Liz! That's what I've always been here for!" Max exclaimed, "You should've let me do that! I'm sorry that I couldn't side with you, but I won't be able to side with your every time Liz, just like you wont be able to side with me every time we fight, or one of us gets in a fight!"

"Please, Liz...I don't want to lose you over something stupid like this," he said softly.

"Why didn't you come earlier?" she asked him, not moving.

"I had to work," he told her.

"You don't start until 4," she said pointedly.

"Well...uhm..." he stammered. "Max, just tell me," she said.

"Someone sort of came to Roswell...and caught me by surprise. Can I come in? It's freezing out here Liz," Max said.

She thought for a moment before nodding, moving out of the way for him to come in.

He quickly came in, handing her the flowers that were still in his hand, before walking over to a chair by her dresser, sitting down.

She laid the flowers down on the bed and sat there, facing him. "So, who's in Roswell that caught you by surprise?" she asked him.

"Well, you know right after I came back, you were asking about my love life in Washington, and I told you about Tess. Well yeah, she's...she's sort of here," Max said.

"Oh...so you were with her after school," she said slowly.

"She sort of sought me out. Her dad got a job here, he's in the army," Max told her.

"Oh," she said, kind of awkwardly. Max stood up and walked over to the bed, sitting down next to her. He reached for her hand, just like he had earlier in school, and didn't let go.

"Nothing happened. We dated when we were sophomores Liz, not like you and...Kyle," he said, his voice a sneer at the last part.

"Nothing's going on with me and Kyle, Max," she said softly.

"I saw you guys in the hall, Liz, you know I did," Max said.

"Like I said, he was comforting me after...what happened," she told him.

"Well, it looked like he had a little more on his mind than comforting you Liz," Max said before standing up and taking off his shirt and jeans.

"What are you doing?" she asked him.

"Well, Tess is staying at our apartment until her dad gets here, so I thought I would stay here, unless you didn't want me to, I could stay there," Max said, shrugging.

She was silent until she nodded. "You can stay here," she said quietly.

"Okay. I'm going to take a shower before I go to bed," he said, walking into the bathroom and shutting the door.

She sighed and picked up the flowers from the bed, noticing that he had set the ring next to them.

She shook her head softly, placing both things on her nightstand as she went to get his sleeping bag from the closet.

Fifteen minutes later, Max came out of the shower, a towel wrapped loosely around his waist.

Liz was standing out on the balcony, a jacket on to cover her arms and slippers on her feet, as she looked up at the sky.

He saw her and slid on his boxers and a t-shirt, joining Liz on the balcony.

"Max, you're going to freeze your ass off," Liz said as she saw him next to her.

"I don't mind," he said, shrugging.

"You're crazy. Don't come whining to me when you catch pneumonia," Liz said, glancing in the opposite direction.

He hesitantly moved closer to her, running his hand down her arm until his fingers brushed against hers.

"I love you Liz," he whispered.

She stayed silent as he brought his hand up to her face, softly caressing her cheek.

"I'm not coming to your apartment while he's there anymore Max," Liz said, holding her coat closer to herself.

"I understand," he breathed, his face now close to hers.

"And you're sleeping on the floor tonight," She continued.

"Of course," he replied, one arm now around her waist.

"...No sex," she breathed.

He didn't answer, just kissed her tenderly.

Liz's eyes closed slowly as he kissed languidly, each kiss with the same tingling affect to her spine.

His hands were all over her body, as if he were touching her for the first time. She softly moaned his name, her hands doing their own exploring.

Max started to slide her jacket off of her shoulders when he remembered that they were still outside in the middle of winter.

He pulled away and extended his hand for her to take, but she shook her head. "No sex, Max," she told him.

"I know," he said, smirking lightly as she tentatively reached for his hand. He led her back into the bedroom, closing the window once they were in.

Liz's jacket was already off by the time Max got back to her, kissing her softly. Somehow, they ended up on the bed, practically ripping each other's clothes off.

Liz arched her back, moaning breathily as his hand brushed against her breast on his way to remove her tank top, his shirt already off.

Her tank top was gone and his lips moved down to her neck, venturing lower as she continued to moan.

He toyed with the waistband to her pajama pants, looking up at Liz. She moaned in impatience, gazing up at him with passion in her eyes.

He stopped, sliding his hands up her body and looking down in her eyes, "You said..." he said, trailing off.

"Forget what I said, Max," she breathed. "Make love to me."

He nodded, smiling down at her and kissing her passionately, his lips trailing across her jaw and to her ear, "I love you so much," he whispered as he pulled down her pajama pants.

"Mmmm...I love you too," she moaned, her hands moving to remove his boxers.

Once they were off Max looked at her with more passion than he ever had before, leaning forward all of a sudden and snatching something off of her side table.

He held the ring in front of her eyes, his eyes asking her the question. She hesitated, but only for a second before holding her left hand out for him. He smiled and slid the ring onto her finger, kissing her hand.

"Okay Max. So...why are you still sitting there?" Liz asked, sitting up as well.

“Good question," he said, kissing her passionately.

His hand trailed down to her breasts, finding one quickly and softly massaging it as she moaned, his lips attacking her neck.

"Max, please," she moaned as they kissed over and over again.

"Mmm," he moaned as her hand found his hard shaft, stroking it again and again.

She moved so that she was kneeling in front of him, placing her mouth firmly over his hard cock and slowly sucking on him, her hand pumping him at the same time. Max let out low moans over and over again, his hand tangling in Liz’s hair as she continued to pleasure him.

It wasn't long before he came into her mouth, moaning her name over and over. She smiled up at him, swallowing his seed as she took him by the shoulders and lay him down on the bed, wrapping her leg around his backside, his cock rising back to life almost immediately.

He kissed her intensely as they became one, Liz moaning into his mouth as he entered her slowly.

Max closed his eyes as he slowly moved in her until he was all the way in, letting out a long moan before steadily rocking his hips, moving in and out of her as she let out soft cries of pleasure.

He reached his hand down, softly stroking her little love button, a high pitched cry coming from her mouth as he continued.

"Ohhh, MAX!" she cried as she climaxed, going nearly crazy with ecstasy.

Max wasn't done yet though, and he kept pumping into her over and over again, breathing heavily as Liz cried out his name over and over again.

He kissed her fiercely, continuing his ministrations. She seemed to lose herself in his kiss, every moment bringing her closer and closer to another release.

"Oh God Max....oh God....Max!" she cried out over and over again, his mouth reaching down for her own to muffle her cries.

"Liiiz," he groaned, beads of sweat forming on his forehead as he continued to thrust in and out of her.

Liz felt her body shudder as she approached yet another orgasm, wrapping her arms around Max's toned body and clinging there for dear life as he rode her.

He climaxed at the same moment as her, moaning her name again and again and again.

Breathing heavily he nuzzled his head in her neck, breathing in her sweet aroma as she regained her strength.

"I love you, Max," she whispered in his ear.

"I love you too, so much," he replied, kissing her languidly before rolling off of her.

"I'm sorry about today, Max...I really don't like fighting with you," she said softly, moving over to him and resting her cheek against his chest.

"I hate being the reason we're fighting, even more than fighting with you," he said, twining his legs with hers so that they were as close as possible.

She sighed and wrapped her arms around him, slowly falling asleep.

Chapter 16

Liz laughed at something Max said, leaning in and kissing him softly, his hand resting on her face, as they waited for AP Bio to start the next morning.

"Maaax! Hiiii!" came a shrill voice from behind them and Liz turned around, seeing a girl with shoulder-length blonde hair and bright blue eyes.

"Hi Tess," he said, smiling a little, "Liz, this is Tess, Tess, this is Liz."

"Hi, it's nice to meet you! Max has told me so much about you...he just wouldn't shut up!" Tess exclaimed, smiling hugely.

"Yeah, you too," Liz said, smiling at her and shaking her hand.

"So, Max, you didn't come home last night, Michael and I missed you," Tess said, pulling up a chair beside them.

"I'm sure you did," Liz muttered under her breath, writing something on her paper.

"You say something, Liz?" Tess asked and Liz looked up shaking her head. "No Tess, you must be hearing things," she replied, giving Tess the fakest smile ever.

Max nudged her gently under the table and she glanced over at him, smirking before getting back to her work as Mr. Seligman came in.

"Good afternoon, class, I'd just like to let you all know we have a new student here today...Tess Harding," he began and Tess groaned, muttering to Max and Liz "God, I hate this...I've done it like a thousand times," before standing.

"Tess, why don't we pair you up with..." Mr. Seligman mused, glancing around the room.

"Ah well, you already seem to know Ms. Parker and Mr. Evans, you can work with them until we find a more permanent," he finished, smiling at the three of them.

"Mr. Seligman, we're in the middle of our final," Max spoke up.

"Well, our as two brightest students, you can help her catch up," Mr. Seligman continued, still smiling.

"Yes, of course sir," Liz said, smiling as he went to his desk, "Do you want him to give us more work than we already have?" she hissed to Max.
Max shrugged as Tess sat down again.

"Brightest student? Max, you sure have changed," she said, giggling.

"I've always been smart, you just didn't care," Max said, before looking over some samples in the microscope.

"What...what do you mean, I didn't care?" Tess asked.

"Let's not talk about this now Tess," Max said, giving her her work before going back to his.

~*~

"...And then daddy told me we were moving to Roswell! I'd get to see my Maxie-Waxie again!" Tess was telling Liz as the three of them walked to her car later that day. It was like Tess had attached herself to Liz and Max.

"...Maxie-Waxie?" Liz asked warily as she got into the car, not entirely trusting Tess. Max slipped into the back seat with her, draping his arm around her shoulders.

"That was my nickname for him," Tess told her, giggling.

"Ah, I see," Liz said, nodding her head as Tess drove them towards the Crashdown upon Liz's directions.

Liz rested her head on Max's shoulder, closing her eyes and sighing as Tess continued to babble on.

"Oh my God! Are you serious! This place is too adorable! You own it?" Tess exclaimed as they pulled up in front of the busy cafe.

"My parents do," Liz said as they all got out of the car.

"Well, that's close enough, oh; look at those adorable little blow up aliens! Is this all for real?" Tess asked, seeing the various cheesy tourist things.

Liz didn't answer, just strode into the cafe, going straight to the back where Maria was waiting.

"Liz! Where have you been? It's insane in here and I'm having hot flashes and I'm dizzy and this baby makes me feel fat and..." Maria babbled, Liz putting her hand over her mouth, laughing.

"Maria, calm down!" Liz exclaimed, slowly removing her hand. "Besides, tourists aren't the only thing scary out there.”

"Really? Who? Is Michael Jackson here? Ohh, or Britney and her gross husband Kevin who-knows-his-last-name?" Maria asked, walking over to the window in the door and peering out as Liz changed into her uniform.

"No, even worse," Liz said, placing her antennae on her head. "Tess Harding...Max's ex-girlfriend from Seattle."

"The one he dated 2 years ago?" Maria asked, immediately zooming in on Tess, sitting at a booth with Max across from her.

"That's the one," Liz said, joining Maria at the door. "Her father is in the army and his job brings them to little ol' Roswell."

"Wow, sucks to be you. She's gorgeous," At this she received a glare from Liz, "...Not that you aren't even more gorgeous, I'm just stating what's blatantly obvious chica."

"I guess you're right..." Liz mused as she opened the door. "Besides, that was two years ago...and Max loves me, not her."

"Well duh, look who has the rock on their finger, you, not her," Maria said before adjusting her headband and going back out, Liz following.

"Oh. My. God. Your uniform is just TOO CUTE!" Tess exclaimed as Liz walked over to her and Max to take their order.

"Yeah, I guess," Liz said blandly, taking out a pencil from behind her ear and plopping down next to Max as Tess looked through the menu.

"That's too adorable...all the food is alien-themed!" she exclaimed, giggling.

"Well, this is the alien capital of the world Tess," Max said, rubbing Liz's back, "I think I'll just get an order of Saturn rings," he told her.

"And I'll get the special...oh, and a cherry coke with lime," Tess said, looking up from the menu.

"Okay, be back in a minute with that," Liz said, kissing Max quickly before going to place the order, attending to the other various tables as well.

"Oh my God, can I shoot her???" Maria asked quietly, suddenly right beside Liz as she placed another order. "I can't stand her...how Max could have ever dated her, I have no idea. She keeps asking me all of these questions...she even asked for an application!!!"

"Please tell me that you told her she needed to be a resident here for at least 6 months before applying," Liz groaned.

"I tried to say something like that then...your father came out," Maria continued and Liz groaned, turning around and seeing her dad chatting up a storm with Tess who had an application in front of her.

"I'll have to have a nice chat with him later," Liz growled before picking up their orders and taking them to their table, "Hey daddy."

"Oh hey, sweetie," Jeff said, kissing her on the cheek as Liz placed the food onto the table.

"There you go, one special, and one order of Saturn rings," she said, sitting down next to Max as more people came in, "Dad, it's a SWAMP in here, my feet are killing me, and you don't even want to know how Maria's feeling."

"Is there anything I can do?" Tess asked suddenly. "I'd be happy to help."

"Could you start right away? You'd get what Liz and Maria are making, $7 an hour plus tips," Jeff said.

"Of course!" Tess exclaimed and Liz had to stifle her groan, shooting Max a furtive look.

"Okay, great, there's an extra uniform in the back, Liz can show you," Jeff said, shaking her hand before walking off.

"I'm sure you'd want to finish your food before you start," Liz offered but Tess shook her head, standing up. "I'll just wrap it up and eat it at home," she said, smiling.

"Okay, well, follow me then," Liz said, wincing after she turned her back to Tess, guiding her to the break room, where there was an extra uniform hanging up on the wall.

"I have some more tables to get to...you can cover Maria's tables, she deserves a break," Liz said. Tess nodded and opened her mouth to speak but Liz walked away before she could utter a single word.

"I can't talk to you much tonight Max, so why don't you meet me upstairs at 9?" Liz asked as she passed his table.

"Sure thing, babe," Max said, standing up and following her. "I'm so, so sorry about Tess," he said in an undertone.

"Don't worry about it. I have a better watch on her, this way," Liz said, smirking and kissing him softly before he left.

"Ria, honey, go home, get some rest," Liz said, approaching Maria who was taking an order.

"There's absolutely nothing to do at home. I've been bored out of my mind lately. I'm always hungry, but I'm too tired to get the food, I always have to pee, but I'm too tired to get up an pee, I'm a wreck Liz," Maria said, slouching her shoulders.

"This is all normal, Ria...now why don't you go home, take a nice bubble bath and then come back later, my dad's making dinner tonight," Liz said, putting an arm around Maria and leading her to the back room.

"Okay...I guess I did promise Alex I'd call him back," Maria said, sighing and pulling on her normal clothes.

"Ok then, I'll call you later tonight, ok?" Liz asked and Maria nodded, hugging Liz before turning to leave.

Liz let out a long sigh, sitting down and running her hands through her hair as she heard the door open next to her. Thinking it was Maria, Liz looked up, smiling, but the smile vanished the next second when she saw who it was.

"This area is for employees only," she said to Kyle who was leaning against the wall beside her.

"So...do you like playing mind tricks with people Liz?" he demanded, coming in and shutting the door.

"What are you talking about, mind tricks??" she asked, looking up at him.

"Yesterday morning you were majorly upset, and you were practically all over me, I thought things were going to go back to the way they used to be. So this morning I come to your locker and there you are sucking face with Evans like it never happened!" Kyle exclaimed angrily.

"Kyle, just because Max and I fought doesn't mean I'm going to go running back to you...besides I was angry and upset yesterday and I just...needed a shoulder to cry on," she replied.

"Yeah, well you know, next time you should find one who hasn't seen you naked before!" Kyle nearly shouted.

"Liz, is everything ok?" Max asked, entering the room, his expression immediately darkening when he saw Kyle.

"There he is. Saint Max in all of his glory. All hail the mighty girlfriend stealing bastard!" Kyle exclaimed sarcastically.

"Don't talk to him like that!" Liz exclaimed, looking back and forth between the two of them.

"Shut up you whore," Kyle spat, glaring over at her for a second too long, because next thing he knew, he was reeling back with Max's punch to his face.

"Call her a whore again, Valenti, I dare you," Max growled, his fist raised to punch Kyle again.

"No use denying the truth Evans," Kyle sneered, wiping where his lip was bleeding, "What, you gonna beat up the star quarterback of the football team?"

"Don't Max, he's not worth it," Liz said quietly, placing a hand on Max's arm.

"He can't just get away with calling you things," Max exclaimed, though he lowered his fist. Kyle smirked, chuckling slightly before jumping Max, Liz screaming out in terror as he started to beat Max up.

"Kyle! Get off of him!" She cried, trying to pull Kyle off of Max. "GET OFF OF HIM!"

"Lizzie? Lizzie what's going on here?" Jeff exclaimed, running into the back room.

By now, Liz was crying, but Max now had the upper hand, punching Kyle over and over again.

"Max, get off of him!" Jeff exclaimed, pulling a struggling Max off of Kyle, who still tried to attack Max even as he was held down by one of the cooks.

"Lizzie, go back out and finish your shift," Jeff told her as she wiped her eyes on her apron.

"Dad!" she exclaimed, but she left anyways, glancing back before going out to help Tess.

Chapter 17

Later that night, after her shift, Liz was sitting on her bed, a textbook open on her lap when there was a knock at her door. "Come in," she called, not looking up from the textbook.

"Hey Lizzie," her dad said, smiling as he walked in.

"Oh, hey dad," she said, looking up and smiling weakly before returning her gaze to the book.

"Would you mind explaining just exactly what happened earlier?" he asked her, sitting down on the edge of her bed.

Liz sighed and closed the book, setting it down beside her and bringing her knees up to her chest, explaining everything to her dad.

"Okay...that's what Max told me. Kyle tried to pin it all on Max. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't lying to me, he being Max," Jeff said, sighing.

"How is Max? Is he ok??" Liz asked urgently.

"Yeah, he has a few cuts and bruises, but nothing major. You should be glad we convinced Kyle that it wasn't in his best interest to press charges though, he was pretty beaten up Liz," Jeff told her.

"I know," Liz replied quietly. Jeff smiled and ruffled Liz's hair before standing up. "Oh, I forgot to tell you...someone's waiting down in the cafe to see you," he said.

"Okay," Liz said, getting up and setting her books down before leaving her room, her father telling her not to stay up to late.

She went downstairs, grinning when she saw Max sitting at the counter drinking a coke.

"Hey baby...you okay?" Liz asked, placing her hand tenderly on his cheek, where there was a large bruise.

"Yeah, I'm fine," he replied, though he winced in pain as he spoke.

"Did you get it looked at?" Liz asked, removing her hand.

"Yeah, it's nothing...I’ve had worse," he told her, encasing her hand in both of his.

"I wish that it didn't hurt," Liz said, sighing.

"It's nothing, Liz," he repeated, smiling at her.

"Okay. Do you have to get back home?" Liz asked him.

"Not if you don't want me to," he replied, his smile turning into a grin.

"Well, I don't want you to. It's a good thing you have changes of clothes here," she said, laughing.

"Yeah, it is," he said as they stood.

"Hey Max?" Liz asked and he looked over at her, his eyebrows raised, "I love you."

He grinned and replied, "I love you too," before capturing her lips in a sweet, passionate kiss.

"How about tonight, is just about us having fun, like we used to do when you stayed the night," she suggested as he led her upstairs.

"Sounds like a plan," he said as they entered her bedroom.

"Okay, so you air out your sleeping bag and get some munchies, and I'm going to shower," Liz said.

"Ok," he replied, kissing her on the cheek before going to get some snacks. Liz smiled and walked over to her window, shutting and locking it, drawing the blinds as well, before taking off her clothes and heading into the bathroom, cracking the door shut behind her as she turned the water on to the right temperature.

After her shower, she got changed and sat down on the bed, wondering what was taking Max so long.

Frowning a little, she stood up, pulling her damp hair behind her ears as she padded out into the hallway, looking around before going downstairs.

"Max? What's taking so long?" she asked, walking into the kitchen.

She walked through the kitchen doors and gasped as she saw Max, who was baking something, flour all over his hands and smudged on his face.

"Wow...Max Evans is baking??" she asked in disbelief, a playful smile grazing her lips.

"Yeah, well I remembered that you love angel food cake, so, I'm making angel food cake," Max said, grinning and wiping his hands off on his pants.
You're so sweet, Max, thank you," Liz said, grinning and kissing him softly.

"Don't touch me! You just took a shower, and I'm covered in flour!" Max exclaimed, his eyes lit up with laughter.

"Oh, you don't want me to touch you? I see how it is," she said, starting to walk away.

"You know what I mean Ms. Parker, soon to be Mrs. Evans," Max said, reaching out for her hand.

She smiled and slipped her hand into his. "Mrs. Evans," she repeated, now grinning like mad.

"Mr. and Mrs. Evans," Max continued.

She sighed in content as he held her close, neither caring that he was covered in flour.

"How long until we're free?" he whispered in her ear, smoothing down her hair.

"Too long," she replied, closing her eyes and sighing as he soothingly stroked her hair.

"I want to be married to you. I want us to start our lives together out east," Max sighed, holding her closer. Liz had gotten accepted into Harvard early, and Max didn't care where he went to school, as long as he was with Liz.

She was silent for a moment before she mumbled, "Then let's elope."

"Liz...your father would KILL us, he'd kill me!" Max exclaimed, pulling back and looking at her.

"But you said it yourself...I want to be married to you, to start our life together," she said, reaching up to cup his cheek with her hand.

"If we're going to...I have to ask your father his permission. I can't marry you knowing he doesn't want us to be," Max said softly.

"Why do we have to do everything by the book, Max? Why can't we go, get married and worry about everyone else after?" she asked, gazing up into his eyes.

"Do you really, really want to do this Liz? I don't want you regretting not having a big wedding, with all of our friends there," Max said.

"You'll be there...that's all that matters," she replied.

"As long as you protect me from Maria, then alright, let's do it," Max said, smiling.

She grinned and kissed him intensely, mumbling, "I love you" in-between kisses.

"Vegas?" He mumbled against her lips.

"Elvis Chapel," she replied, pulling back and grinning.

"Very corny, but alright. We should leave now, we can get everything there," Max said, pulling the cake out of the oven as Liz ran upstairs, grabbing her purse.

At the last second, though, she glanced at a picture of Maria, Alex, and herself and sighed. She should at least tell them.

She thought for a moment before smiling. "I have an idea," she said, turning to Max. "We call Alex and Maria and tell them to meet us halfway. That way we can share this with our friends."

Max smiled and kissed her, "I'll be in the car," he said softly.

She grinned and kissed him again before grabbing the phone and quickly dialing Maria's number.

"Liz...it's like 11 o'clock, you know I'm in bed by 9 nowadays," Maria mumbled over the phone.

"Max and I are eloping!" Liz exclaimed happily. "In Vegas at the Elvis Chapel. We want you and Alex to meet us halfway."

Liz heard a sharp intake of breath and then Maria nearly screaming, "ALEX WAKE UP THEY'RE GETTING MARRIED IN VEGAS!"

Liz started giggling before saying, "Ria, I've gotta go...I'll see you in a bit, ok?"

"Bye!" she exclaimed before mumbling something about a wedding present.

Liz laughed and said, "You don't have to get anything," before hanging up, going over to her closet and picking out a nice dress before sneaking out her window.

"You won't be needing that," Max said, kissing her, "I plan on buying you something while there. I still have some of the money my mom left me when she died, that and what I've been saving from my job."

She grinned and kissed him passionately as they got into the car, driving away, leaving Roswell in their dust.

~*~

Liz squealed out in joy as Max scooped her up, twirling her around as he stepped inside the hotel room.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him passionately. "Mmm...I love you, Mrs. Evans," he mumbled against her lips.

She smiled, sighing softly, "Mrs. Evans..." she said, repeating what she had said only hours ago.

“Mr. and Mrs. Evans," he whispered, also repeating what he'd said earlier that night.

They had arrived in Vegas at around 2 o'clock in the morning, Max taking Liz to a small boutique where she got a simple, yet beautiful wedding dress, and Max got a black suit.

Alex was his best man and Maria was her maid of honor, both having met them halfway, as promised. The ceremony was simple but it was everything Liz and Max could have wished for.

Their reception had been held at a small club, just the four of them. Max and Liz danced half of the night away, just staring in each other's eyes, completely in love.

At around four in the morning, Maria and Alex retreated to their hotel room while Liz and Max went to theirs, though they weren't planning on sleeping.

Liz knew they wouldn't be home before her parents woke up, and strangely she was alright with that.

"Hey, Liz?" Max whispered in her ear as he laid her down on the bed. She looked questioningly up at him and he whispered, "I love you."

She let out a laugh, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling his face down to hers, kissing him softly.

"I love you too," she cooed, sliding his jacket off of his shoulders.

"You know what I'm going to do?" he asked her, his hands sliding down the straps of her dress and caressing her silky smooth skin.

"What are you going to do?" she breathed.

"I am going to make passionate love to my wife, all night long," he whispered, his breath hot on her skin.

She shivered as her eyes fluttered closed. She felt him start to remove her dress and started working on his suit.

"No, I want to make love to you Liz, slow...passionate love," Max said, kissing her, "let me do the work."

She nodded and opened her eyes, gazing up into his amber ones. "Whatever you say, Max," she breathed.

He smiled and sat up, undoing the buttons on his shirt and pulling it off of his arms, her dress making its way off of her body with the help of his hands a moment later.

Once she was completely naked, he started to kiss her neck, his kisses leaving a trail of fire all along her neck.

She swallowed thickly, her eyes closed as she took in deep breaths, his mouth continuing to travel down.

Her breath hitched as his lips latched on to her nipple, his hands starting to massage her breasts.

"Oh Max...Max that feels so good," Liz whimpered softly, pouting even more as she felt his lips vanish from her breast.

"I like to make you feel good," Max breathed, his hands traveling south, touching her where he touched only twice before.

Liz took a sharp intake of breath at the sensation, her eyes fluttering shut.
"Do you like that, baby?" Max whispered, his breath hot in her ear. All she could do was nod as he slid two fingers into her.

Liz cried out Max's name as she came onto his fingers almost immediately as he found her G-spot. Her body quivered with her release and he continued to pleasure her, a look of concentration and horniness on his face.

"God, Max, I want you so bad," she moaned, her eyes locking with his own.

He grinned and brought his lips up to her own, removing his fingers and replacing it with his stiff cock two seconds later.

"Mmmm....oh God," she moaned, her nails digging into his back as he thrust in and out of her.

"God Max...fuck me harder!" Liz exclaimed, screaming out as he quickened his pace, pounding into her again and again, Liz screaming out his name over and over and Max grunting out hers.

She let out a final cry of pleasure as she released, panting Max's name over and over again.

Max let out a low grunt of pleasure as her walls constricted around his throbbing member, his release following soon after.

They lay panting beside each other, her head resting on his chest and his arms around her. "I love you, Mrs. Evans," he mumbled into her hair.

"Mmm, and I love you Mr. Evans, now shut up and fuck me like a real man," she said, giggling and pulling him back over to her.

~*~

Liz awoke the next morning to the sound of her cell phone ringing. She groaned and picked it up. "Hello?" she said sleepily.

"ELIZABETH CLAUDIA PARKER! WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE YOU?" Jeff's voice roared over the phone.

Liz hand to hold the phone away from her ear, his voice was so loud. By now, Max was awake, looking very panicked, as did Liz.

"Dad, dad! Calm down for just one second and let me explain!" Liz exclaimed.

"You better explain, and fast!" Jeff nearly shouted.

"Well, I'm in Vegas daddy!" Liz said, laughing a little, but she immediately stopped as Jeff started yelling again.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IN VEGAS!" he shouted and again, Liz held the phone away from her ear.

"Uhm, daddy...we're sort of married," Liz said in barely a whisper.

Max reached across the bed for her free hand and squeezed it tightly, giving her a small smile. "You...and Max...eloped?" Jeff asked in a very calm voice.

"Yes," Liz replied, equally calm.

There was silence for a minute until Jeff said, "Put Max on the phone, Liz."

"Dad..." Liz trailed, until she heard him clear his voice loudly.

"Liz, put him on the phone," he told her.

She sighed and mumbled "Ok," before handing the phone to Max.

He took a deep breath before speaking up, "Hello Jeff," he said in as confident a voice as he could muster.

Max was mostly silent, muttering things like "yes" and "ok" once in a while until, after what felt like forever, he said goodbye and hung up.

"Max, what did he say to you?" Liz demanded, rolling over and looking down at him.

"He just told me to take good care of you," Max said, a small smile forming on his lips. "Though he wished we would have at least told him before we ran off to Vegas."

"I'm just glad he didn't threaten to skin you alive or something," Liz said, laughing and kissing his lips softly, “Or worse, told us we had to annul it.”

"Yeah...but he wants us back in Roswell by tonight," Max told her.

"Of course...we should probably wake up Maria and Alex then," Liz said, sitting up and wrapping the sheet around herself, dragging it off of the bed with her as she stood up.

"Yeah, I guess we should," Max said, standing up and pulling on his boxers.

Liz smiled affectionately at him before quickly changing into her clothes and heading out to tell Maria and Alex that they were heading back.

"Ok, chica, we'll just follow behind you in Alex's car," Maria said and Liz smiled and nodded before going back into her and Max's room.

"You almost ready baby?" she asked him, wrapping her arms around his waist.

"Just about," he said, leaning down and kissing her softly.

"Okay, I'll be in the car. I'm driving, because you're a pokey driver Old Man Evans," Liz said, grabbing his butt before taking her bag and heading out for the car.

"I love you too, Liz," he said, grinning as they headed out of the hotel.

"Yeah, I know you do," she said, ducking into the car as he held the door open for her.

Once he was in the car, she started it up, leaning over and kissing him softly before starting back toward Roswell.

Chapter 18

"Oh my God Maria! Look at her! She's getting so big!!" Liz exclaimed as she looked at the image on the screen of Maria's baby. It was May, and Maria was due in just over a month.

"I know," Maria said, smiling happily. "We need to start thinking of names."

"Yeah," Liz said, looking over at Alex, who sat holding Maria's hand. They had found out that Maria was having a girl shortly after they had gotten back from Vegas, and Maria had a check-up.

"Have you thought of anything, Al?" Maria asked, looking up at him.

"Uhm...maybe a few names, but I don't know if you'd like them," he said.

"Oh come on, try me," Maria said, stroking the back of his hand with her thumb.

"Well, there's Peyton, Nathalie, Leandra," Alex said, naming off a few.
Maria kind of wrinkled her nose before laughing. "How about you, Liz, do you have any?" she asked.

"Laurie?" Liz offered, "Uhm...Haley, Olivia..."

"I like Laurie," Maria said, smiling a little.

"Laurie it is then," Liz said, laughing as the doctor came back in and talked to them for a few minutes before letting them go home.

"So, Liz, have you gotten your dress for the prom yet?" Maria asked her as they got into Alex's car.

"Nope...I can't find the right one, you know? And anyways, Max hasn't even asked me yet. I know that since we're married he's going to ask me, but you know, I still want him to," Liz said.

"How long has it been since the big day?" Maria asked, knowing that Liz would know down to the very minute.

"3 months and 9 days," Liz said, smiling as she remembered their small, intimate February 6th wedding.

"Aww," Maria cooed, giggling a little as they pulled up in front of the Crashdown.

"Yeah, you asked," Liz said, laughing before leaning over and hugging Maria, "I'll let you take over the wheel Alex, see you guys tomorrow at school."

"Bye, Liz," they said together before driving off. Liz let out a gasp as a pair of hands covered her eyes.

"Guess who," a voice whispered in her ear...a voice she would recognize anywhere.

"Get your fucking hands off of me," she growled, pulling away from Kyle, "Why can't you just leave me the fuck alone?"

"What, I can't even say hi anymore?" Kyle asked, smirking a little.

"You can say hi without touching me you bastard," she sneered, walking into the Crashdown.

Kyle just followed her. "So, you got a date for prom yet?" he asked cheerfully.

"Why would it matter to you?" she snapped, heading for the backroom.

"Well if Evans doesn't ask you, you could always go with meee," he said, still following her.

"Who says he hasn't asked me already?" Liz demanded, going into the bathroom so she could change.

"I can just tell," he said simply, standing outside of the bathroom. "How funny would it be if your own husband didn't even ask you to prom."

"It shouldn't be any of your damn business Kyle. So I'd really appreciate it if you didn't make it your business," Liz said, stepping out of the bathroom.

"I always thought you looked extremely hot in that uniform," he said softly, pushing her back against the wall.

"Kyle you are going to get off of me right now," she said in a dangerously low voice.

"What if I don't wanna?" he purred, pressing his body against hers.

"Kyle, get off me!" Liz exclaimed a little louder, trying to get away from him.

"Feisty, I like that," he said softly, crushing his lips to hers.

Liz's eyes shot open in shock as he kissed her, not doing anything for a second until she realized what was happening and she pushed him off forcefully.

"Get the fuck out of here," she said, her voice laced with hate and anger.

Just then did she notice the dark figure standing in the doorway, looking at the two of them with an unreadable look on his face.

"M-Max?" she stammered.

"Would anyone mind telling me just what the fuck was going on here?" he asked.

"I guess your little whore just couldn't help herself around me," Kyle said, grinning.

"You better get the fuck out of my face before I smash it in," Max growled, walking right up to him and looking down at him.

"All right, all right, I'm gone," Kyle said, winking over at Liz. "See you around Liz," he said before leaving.

As soon as he was gone, Max turned to Liz, "Liz..." he said, his voice hurt, "How could you just stand there and let him kiss you?"

"Max, I am so, so sorry," she said slowly. "I didn't even realize what was going on until he was...practically shoving his tongue down my throat."

"Nice choice of words," Max growled, pacing the small room.

"Max please, he forced himself on me...I would never, ever willingly kiss another man," she said, slowly approaching him.

"What did he want, anyways?" Max demanded.

"He...wanted to know if you'd asked me to prom yet," Liz told him.

"Why? Did he ask you to it or something?" Max asked her.

"Kind of," Liz replied quietly.

"And....?" Max trailed off, raising an eyebrow at his wife.

"Of course I said no, Max! You're my husband for Christ's sake!" Liz exclaimed.

"Well, you were just kissing him, so I don't know Liz," Max said angrily.

"Well maybe if you would ASK ME, then I wouldn't have to even listen to what he was saying!" Liz exclaimed.

"Why do I even have to ask you? We're married; of course we'd be going to prom together!" Max retorted angrily.

"It would still be nice if you asked me, Max! I can't read your mind, you know!" Liz cried.

"Just don't talk to me, Max, I need to go...cool down," Liz said before Max could reply, walking right past him and into the cafe.

"Hey Liz!" Tess said brightly, unaware of her current mood.

"Tess, if I were you I'd stay far away from me right now," Liz growled, going over to take somebody's order.

"Look who woke up on the wrong side of the bed," Tess said under her breath before going to place an order, seeing Max looking out at Liz from the break room window.

Liz glanced up from her order pad and saw him before looking back down at the pad, scribbling down the order.

Tess glanced between the two of them before going back to talk to Max, "Hey, what's up?" she asked.

"Nothing," he immediately replied, not taking his eyes off of Liz.

"Max, you can tell me, you know," Tess said, placing her hand on Max's arm.

"Liz and I had a fight, that's all," he replied.

He jerked his arm away from her hand and she sighed, "It's weird, you know. You two being married. I always thought that that was going to be us, one day, you know, while we were dating," Tess said.

"Tess, we dated for what...three months?" Max asked, returning his gaze to Liz. "I've loved her nearly my whole life."

"Still doesn't change that fact that what we had, Max, was amazing," She said softly.

"But it's over...I'm with Liz now," he said somewhat coldly.

"...I know. But, if things don't work out, or you need someone to talk to...I'm here Max," she said, smiling a little. He returned her smile and nodded before walking out to Liz.

Tess smirked as he retreated, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear before walking back out to finish her shift.

"Liz..." he said softly once he approached her, but she just brushed past him.

"I said I needed some time, Max," she said angrily, placing an order before going to the soda machine to refill some drinks.

"I don't want us to be like this...I'll talk to you about this later," he said, Liz keeping her eyes down as he waited for a moment before walking briskly out of the cafe.

~*~

Liz was just about to finish her shift when Sheriff Valenti came into the Crashdown, looking for her. "What is it, Sheriff?" she asked him as he approached her.

"Liz...why don't you come with me..." he offered gently.

"Uhm...all right...let me just go tell my dad," she said, confused.

"No...I think you should come now," he said, Jeff walking out from the break room a second later.

"What's going on, Sheriff?" he asked, approaching them both.

"Something...well, something happened," he started to say, stalling.

"I don't really know how to say this...Max...he..." he trailed, the look of absolute horror on Liz's face stopping him.

"Oh my God...what happened to Max...Sheriff?" Liz asked as the Sheriff opened and closed his mouth a few times.

"He was in a car accident...he died at the scene," he told her.

"No...no...you're wrong...you have the wrong person," Liz whispered, her face turning ghostly white.

"He...he told one of the paramedics to tell you that he was sorry," the Sheriff continued and Liz's hand flew to her mouth.

"Oh my god!" she cried, tears flooding her eyes as her knees buckled, slowly bringing her down to the ground, "It's all my fault! He was coming to apologize!"

Jeff kneeled beside her and took her in his arms. "Shhh, Lizzie...it's not your fault," he said soothingly.

"If...If I had just talked to him!" she cried brokenly, her body not able to hold itself up.

"I'm so stupid!! So, so...stupid!" she exclaimed, her whole body shaking.

"Shhh, baby shhh, it's alright," he said soothingly as Sheriff Valenti looked around, in obvious discomfort.

"I'm so...so sorry for your loss, Liz, I really am," he said softly.

She couldn't bring herself to say anything, just continued to cry as people started to stare.

"Could you get everyone out of here...now?" Jeff asked as he tried to soothe Liz.

"Sure, Jeff," the Sheriff replied and started to tell people to clear out, that the Crashdown was closing early.

"Maaaaax!" Liz cried out, tears pouring from her eyes as her father blocked her from the view of everyone on her way out, "We...we were going to start our life together! We wanted to start a family one day!"

"And...the last thing we did was fight!" she cried, crying even harder.

"Shhh, it's alright...you two still both loved each other, you both knew down in your hearts that you loved each other, that's all that matters," Jeff said softly as Nancy came downstairs.

"Jeff, what happened?" she asked, kneeling beside them.

"Max...he died in a car accident," Jeff whispered as Liz slowly started to fall asleep.

"Oh dear," Nancy sighed as Jeff stood up, cradling Liz in his arms.

"Jeff...what are we going to do?" Nancy asked as they placed Liz on her bed.

"I don't know," he sighed, pulling the covers up over Liz.

She glanced over at him before looking down at Liz, at peace for the time being.

~*~

"Hey honey...are you ready?" Maria asked softly, walking into Liz's room and frowning. There were clothes all over the floor and she sat on her bed, still in her bath robe, tears rolling down her cheeks. "I don't have anything black!" she exclaimed.

"Liz...you have tons of black," Maria said softly.

"But it's all winter clothes...and it all makes me look fat!" she cried. "I just want to look good for him!"

"Here, Liz, here," Maria said, finding a black dress Liz had bought a while back and had never worn.

Liz wiped her eyes on her sleeve. "Thanks, Ria," she mumbled before getting changed.

Maria sighed, rubbing her belly thoughtfully as Liz changed, coming out a moment later in the dress.

"Want me to fix your makeup, sweetie?" Maria asked softly as Liz sat down in front of her vanity, staring blankly into the mirror.

"Please," she whispered, tears forming in her eyes.

Maria smiled and nodded, applying some cover up, eye shadow and lipstick. She moved to do the mascara and eyeliner but Liz stopped her. "It'll run, Ria," she whispered.

"That's the magic of waterproof," she said, smiling softly at her.

Liz let out a shaky laugh as Maria finished. "Are you gonna be ok?" she asked as Liz stood up.

"Seriously, Maria? I don't think I'll ever be okay again," she said before breaking down into tears.

"Oh honey," Maria sighed, hugging Liz as best she could.

"Look at me, I'm a blubbering fool. Max wouldn't want this of me," Liz sniffled, wiping her eyes.

Maria smiled a little. "He would hate seeing you like this, Liz," she said softly.

Liz took a deep breath, nodding before taking Maria's hand in her and walking downstairs and out to the car. Max's viewing had been the worst part, though. That was the night before.

~*~

"Ria, I can't do this," Liz said softly as Maria led her into the church where they were holding the viewing.

"Liz...you have to be strong...for Max, you have to be strong for Max," Maria said, Alex following right behind them.

"For Max," she repeated, taking a deep breath as they entered the church.

All eyes turned to her the moment she entered the room, a hush spreading across it.

She walked down the aisle, straight to where the casket lay at the front of the church, open.

Closing her eyes, she placed her hand on the edge of the casket to steady herself before opening them, slowly.

She felt tears fall from her eyes as she saw Max lying so...still. She reached out to touch him, her hand hovering over his own.

Her mouth quivered as she touched his hand, so icy cold, but then she looked up to his face, so calm, just like he was sleeping, and she knew she had to be strong for him.

"I love you, Max," she whispered, her voice shaky. She could just hear his voice in her head, "I love you too, Liz...Mrs. Evans."

Her hand slowly left his and she moved on, Maria and Alex there to steady her as she almost fell down.

By now, the tears were coming down at full force, sobs raking her whole body.

Maria and Alex helped her to her seat, and the rest of the viewing went by in a slow haze for Liz. Various people came up to talk to her, to offer her their sympathies, but none of them really knew Max...not like she did. None of them would remember him for the rest of their lives. None of them.

~*~

"Liz, we're going to be late," Maria said quietly, jolting her back to reality.
Liz blinked slowly, nodding her head, before getting into the car, Alex in the drivers seat and Liz getting into the back, next to Maria.

Liz reached for Maria's hand and squeezed it tightly, fighting back her tears.

5 minutes later, the car silent the entire ride, they reached the church where Max's funeral was going to be held.

"Are you sure you can give the eulogy?" Maria asked her quietly as they stepped out of the car. It was the one thing Liz had insisted on doing.

"Yes...I...I can do it," she said softly.

Maria sighed and nodded as they started toward the church. Liz took her seat in the front pew, staring straight ahead until the priest called her up to say a few words.

She approached the podium, took a deep breath and began to speak. "I was going to write this whole big thing about Max and how wonderful he was and...how much I loved...love him. But I couldn't do it. I couldn't put into words how I felt...how I feel about him. But I can tell you all about him. He was nice to everyone...he had the biggest heart I’ve ever seen, and it was filled with love. I feel so lucky to have been loved by him. We were...are soul mates. Most people say there's no such thing and I'll admit, I was one of those people...Max wasn't. He believed that everything happened for a reason. Everyone had a destiny. He was my destiny and I was his. I should have realized it the day he came back from Seattle...it was fate. Then, on the 6th of February, we got in a car, drove to Vegas and eloped. I'll never ever forget that night. We...we got married in the Elvis Chapel then danced the night away before falling asleep in each other's arms. That was over three months ago. Now, he's gone, but not forgotten. Not by the people whose lives he's touched...not by his friends and family...and not by me, his wife and his best friend. I'll never forget you, Max...and I'll never stop loving you."

Liz swallowed thickly as she laid her hand over Max's casket, fresh tears springing her to her eyes as she looked at all of the pictures and flowers around it.

She let a few of her tears fall before stepping back, wiping her eyes. "I love you," she whispered.

She made her way back to her seat, Maria hugging her as Liz cried into her shoulder.

The priest announced that they would all walk to the cemetery together for the burial. Maria helped Liz to her feet, whispering to her to be strong for him...for Max.

Liz took a deep breath, clutching onto her best friends' hands tightly as they walked down the hill slowly to get to Max's grave site.

They all stood around his casket as it was lowered into the ground. Liz watched it, slowly descending, slowly going farther and farther away from her, making it more real as each second ticked by.

She let out a cry not seconds later, and fell onto the ground, tears pouring from her eyes. "Maaaax!" she cried, wrapping her arms around herself and sobbing. Her love…her life, was gone, and there wasn’t a thing she could do about it.

Maria laid her hand softly on Liz’s shoulder and she looked up at her best friend, a shattered smile on her face before she looked down at his grave, taking a handful of the dirt in her hand and letting it sift through her fingers, on top of the casket.

“I love you,” she whispered, “Never forget that.”

How do I get through one night without you
If I had to live without you
What kind of life would that be
Oh I, I need you in my arms
Need you to hold
You're my world, my heart, my soul

If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything good in my life
And tell me now

How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breathe without you
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive
How do I
How do I
Oh, how do I live

Without you, there'd be no sun in my sky
There would be no love in my life
There'd be no world left for me
And I, oh Baby, I don't know what I would do
I'd be lost if I lost you
If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything real in my life
And tell me now

How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breathe without you
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive
How do I
How do I
Oh, how do I live

Please tell me baby
How do I go on

If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything
Need you with me
Baby don't you know that you're everything good in my life
And tell me now

How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breathe without you
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive
How do I
How do I
Oh, how do I live

how do I live without you
how do I live without you baby
how do I live....
