CHAPTER 31









LIZ P.O.V

It’s Friday afternoon and I am still waiting for Max to get home.

He should have been here a half an hour ago or more.

RING RING

I hear the phone ring and pick it up.

“Hello?” I say into the phone.

“Hello is this a Miss Elisabeth Parker?” a female voice asks into the phone.

“Yes this is” I say in a questionait voice.

“There’s been an accident involving your fiancé Maxwell Evans… we’d like you to come down to the hospital and sign some papers” the lady says and I am in shock.

“What happened?” I ask in panic.

“We are not allowed to discuss that information over the phone” she says and I hang up on her and run into the nursery to get Sky.

Oh please god… let him be ok…

I feel tears stinging my eyes…

What could have happened…???

I rush into the car and place Sky into the baby seat making sure that she is buckled in safely.

I start the engine and speed to the hospital…

“Liz” Diane screams as she runs to me hands open developing me into a big hug.

The tears are running down my face and I look back to see Philip and Zan sitting near by.

“What happened?” I ask softly looking down at Sky.

She has a confused look on her face.

“He was in a car crash” she says and my eyes fall closed.

“Is he ok?” I ask opening my eyes slowly and looking at her.

“He’s in a coma” she says and I feel a pain in my heart and I start to sob and tear.

“It’s gonna be ok … Lizzie” Zan says as he comes up and pulls me into his arms.

Dian’s takes Sky and I just continue to cry into Zan’s shoulder.

LIZ P.O.V

I am woken up by Philip who passes me a hot chocolate from the cafeteria.

“How’s he doing?” I ask and he smile softly.

“No change” he says sadly.

“I love him … you know” I say and he nods while smiling softly …

It doesn’t reach his eyes…

“I know Liz… but his going to make it out … his going to be fine” he says and I nod.

I look at Zan who is holding Sky in his arms.

“Has she slept?” I ask curiously.

“No” he replies as he looks up at me before looking down at her again and smiling.

“I want to see him” I say and Diane nods.

“I know” she says and I smile at her softly.

Just then a doctor comes out of his room and standing in front of us.

“Hello I’m Doctor Luis” he says as he shakes our hands.

“How is he Doctor?” Diane asks the question that is on everyone’s mind.

“He is ok … that car … it umm, it screwed him up pretty bad” he says not finding any other words to use.

“But he’ll wake up right?” Zan asks and the doctor smiles softly.

“We hope so” he says before turning to leave.

We hope so…???

What is that suppose to mean…???

“Wait…” I call out as I stand and the doctor turns around.

“Can we see him?” I ask desperately.
“Well ummm…” he starts to say but I cut him off.

“Please” I beg with tears in my eyes.

“Alright” he says smiling softly…

I walk over to his room and open the door.

I walk further in and I see him…

LIZ P.O.V

“Oh God Max…” I say as I move to the side of his hospital bed and take his hand in mine.

He has bruises all over his face and arms…

He has cuts …

On his eyebrow… on his lip … across his cheek.

He is so pale and I feel the tears run down my cheek.

“Max, I’m here and I’m going to be here till you wake up … I know you will… I know it” I say as I cup his face in my hands and kiss his cheek.

“Please baby … wake up” I say as I feel more tears run down my cheek.

I turn when I hear the door open and I see Diane.

She smile slightly and I walk to her.

I whisper one last thing to Max and I know that deep inside … he can hear me.

“I love you” …

1 WEEK LATER

It’s been a week since Max’s accident and there has been no change…

He is still in a coma and fighting for his life.

I am bringing Sky in to see him today.

His cuts and bruises are nearly or gone and he is looking better …

… Except for him being pale.

I know that Sky can since that something is wrong.

She has barely slept in this whole week and is always crying.
You’re probably wondering what I did about university.

Well I asked them if I could take another couple of months off and they agreed.

And in that time I have realised that I don’t want to go to uni anymore…

I haven’t told Max yet …

I was planning on telling him last Friday …

But we all know what happened.

I grab Sky who is currently crawling on to the couch and grab my keys.

“It’s time to go see daddy” I say and she smiles.

CHAPTER 34











LIZ P.O.V

I walk into the hospital with Sky in my arms and smile at Diane and Zan.

Philip had to go to work for a big meeting and couldn’t miss it.

Diane and Zan have been coming almost everyday and so have I.

When I go in I normally leave Sky with Zan but today she gets to see her dad.

“Hi” I say as I walk up to them.

“Heya” Zan says and Diane slaps his shoulder.

“Its hello” Diane corrects and I smile.

“Well I’m gonna” I say pointing to Max’s door and they nod.

Zan stands up expecting me to put Sky in his arms.

“Not today … I promised Sky that she would get to see her daddy today” I say and he nods and smiles in understanding.

He opens the door to Max’s room for me and I smile as I walk in.

When the door closes and we are in private I look down at Sky to see her looking at Max.

“Look sweetie… its daddy” I say and I watch as her eyes water.

“Baby what’s wrong?” I say and her lips start to tremble.

“Dada” …

“Yes it daddy…” I start to say and I realise what just happened.

“What did you just say?” I look down at her to find her looking at max through clouded eyes and she whispers again.

“Da...dada” she stutters and I smile as I pick her up in my arms and spin her around.

“Say that again” I say and she giggles before saying.

“Ma...ma” …

“Ohh god baby” I say as I smile at her and she looks at me with proud eyes.

I look at Max and a rush of sadness passes through me.

He had been waiting for Sky to talk since before she was born…

And he wasn’t there for her first word…

…no he was there.

I can feel it…

I run outside to Diane and Zan to show them my baby girl.

And how well she can talk…

LIZ P.O.V

1 WEEK LATER

It has been two weeks since the accident and I have been by his side everyday since.

I have been bringing Sky in with me and she has been looking at her play books and has been playing with Zan.

Yes Zan … he has been trying to see if Sky can say his name but all she says and Ann…

But I know that she is just teasing …

My hand is in Max’s and I look down at Sky…

My baby girl …

She is now 7 and half months old…

I don’t believe she started talking so early…

I think its my imagination but I feel Max squeeze my hand.

I look down to see his eyes slightly open and a small smile on his lips.

“Max…” I say as I look down as my eyes start to water.

“Hey...” he moans.

“Dada” Sky calls and Max’s eyes grow wide.

“Is my baby talking?” he asks me and I smile as I nod.

“Wow… I thought it was a dream” he says and I look at him strangle.

“I hear everything” he says softly while closing his eyes and I smile as I kiss his lips and he moans.

“Dada…” Sky calls again and when I look down she is crawling to me and pulling on my leg.

“Ok, ok ...” I say while pulling her into my arms.

“There’s my baby” Max says as he lifts his arm and I gently place Sky in them.

“Dada…” she says proudly and Max chuckles.

“Yeah, muffin I’m your daddy” he says and I walk to the door quietly and tell Diane to get a doctor while smiling brightly.

“Oh My” she says and a grin breaks out across her face.

“Where did you go?” Max asks as he looks at me.

“To get you a doctor” I say as I grab Sky in my arms and she turns to smile at Max.

The doctor comes in to check on him and says that everything seems fine…

Oh thank god…

CHAPTER 36












MAX P.O.V

It’s been 2 weeks since I woke up and a couple days since I got out of hospital.

I am now lying down on the couch at home watching Liz while Sky Lays on my stomach dosing off to sleep.

I smile down at my baby girl …

I love her more than anything…

She and Liz are everything to me and I am so grateful that I have both of them here with me.

RING RING

I hear the phone ring and pick it up.

“Hello” I say looking down at Sky who is now wide awake.

I see her eyes start to water and place my hand on her back.

She looks up at me and lays her head back down.

“Hello this is Tracy from UNM we were just calling to make sure that a Miss Elisabeth Parker was positive that she would not be returning to UNM” the lady says and I am shock.

“Why wouldn’t she?” I ask.

“Well she called saying that she no longer wished on returning” she says and I freeze.

Why would Liz do that…???

“Liz, baby” I call out and she comes to me with a smile.

“It’s Tracy from UNM” I say as I hand her the phone and she smiles slightly before answering.

“Hello” she says.

“Yes I’m sure … ok thankyou bye” she says before hanging up.

“What was that about?” I ask … already knowing the truth.

“Ohh umm… they just wanted to ask if I need more time off” she lies and I nod.

“Ok” I say and she smile before leaning down and placing a kiss on my lips.

She then turns and leaves.

She is not telling me something and I do not like it…

LIZ P.O.V

I don’t believe they just called to check if I was going or not…

They could have blown my cover and then Max would know.

And I know that he wouldn’t like that…

He thinks that university is my dream, but my dreams have changed now.

And I do plan on telling him that … one day.

I walk outside and over to the mailbox.

I see a letter addressed to Max and it is in a gold envelope and smells like woman’s perfume.

I look at the house and then back down at the envelope…

Oh well … a girls got to do what a girls got to do.

I think as I rip it open and take out the letter.

Dear my lover … Max,

I miss you honey …!!!

I heard what happened and I went to the hospital to see you…

I saw your bitch sitting down with your adorable child and I just knew that we should have one of our own…

So Max what do you say …

Meet me tonight at the public library…

The adult section…

Love…

I feel my blood boil and my fist clench…

‘I would never cheat on you Liz … I love you’

I remember when he said that to me.

I remember how much I believed him, I am such an idiot.

What am I suppose to do …???

Give him the letter …

Go to the library ….

I put the letter back into the envelope and seal it … it looks as if it hasn’t been touched.

I walk inside and Max asks.

“Any letters?”

“Yeah one for you” I say as I had him the letter.

“Ok, thanks baby” he says while smiling softly.

I know something is going on, something that he is not telling me and I don’t like it.

MAX P.O.V

I sit up and place Sky carefully on the couch while placing her blanket over her.

I look down at the letter and smell it…

It smells like women’s perfume.

I open the letter and read it…


Dear my lover … Max,

I miss you honey …!!!

I heard what happened and I went to the hospital to see you…

I saw your bitch sitting down with your adorable child and I just knew that we should have one of our own…

So Max what do you say …

Meet me tonight at the public library…

The adult section…

Love…

I defiantly know who it is now and I just want to know why they would come back after all this time.

I don’t appreciate them calling Liz a bitch and I don’t ever want to think about having any children with anyone apart from Liz.

I rip the letter up and go to get dressed …

I am going to go tonight and talk to her; I need to know what she is doing back and what she wants.

I know that Liz would kill me if she knew that’s why I can’t tell her…

I guess she’s not the only one with secrets…
But I will tell her eventually…

I just don’t want to see this person’s face again…

“Who was the letter from?” Liz asks as she comes in and sits on my lap.

“Invitation to some birthday… I’m not gonna go” I say as I smile at her.

“Ok” she says as she kisses my lips sweetly …

God I love her… I don’t know what I would do if I lost her.

LIZ P.O.V

Max just left about 2 minuets ago and I am now getting dressed to go after him.

I don’t believe this …

Could he really be cheating on me…???

I pick up sky who is sleeping calmly in my arms and bring her outside…

I place her in her baby seat and get inside.

I drive to the library in wonder …

What am I going to see…???

Do I really want to know…???

I pull up to the library and find parking straight away.

I walk to the back and take Sky out of her baby seat and carry her in my arms as I walk into the full library.

I find the adults section and see Max walk in to the aisle.

I follow closely, but stay out of view.

“Hey there sexy” her voice says full of seduction.

“Samantha … what are doing back?” he asks and I wonder how he knows her.

“I want you back Max”

“I …” Max starts to say but I look down at Sky and then back up again and they are kissing.

I walk to the aisle and wait to hear what he has to say.

“Did you miss me?” she asks and Max is speechless.

“Yes …” he says and I cut him off.

“You son of a bitch” I say and he looks at me.

His body is pressed up against hers and she was kissing her neck.

“Liz let me explain” he says but I something cuts him off.

“Dada…?” I look down at sky to see her looking at Max with sad and confused eyes.

“Sky baby…” he starts but Samantha cuts him off.

“Tell them about us Max” she says and before he can say anything I look down at Sky, whose eyes are watering…

“Come on baby, let’s go” I say as I take one final look at Max.

I guess he was after all …

MAX P.O.V

I hurry into the house to find Liz sitting down on the couch.

She looks like she’s thinking and I walk over and sit down next to her.

“Liz…” I start to say but she interrupts.

“Who is she?” she asks in a pained voice.

“Samantha” I answer and she turns to me.

“I knew that much … you kind of moaned it out while her tongue was down your throat “she answers and I look down at my hands.

“She used to be my girlfriend before Tess …I lost my virginity to her” I say and I see the pain in her eyes.

“What happened?” she asks and I continue.

“She was asked out be Mark Spitemen” I say and I smile slightly.

“Ohhhh” she says as she looks at me.

“Where Sky?” I ask in wonder… I haven’t heard her and I don’t see her.

“At Maria and Michaels” she says and I nod.

“Do you still love her Max?” she asks as she looks up into my eyes and I shake my head.

“I never did…”

“But you said you did miss her…” she starts to say but I cut in.

“Did … as in all those years ago” I say and she nods.

“Max…” she says as we make eye contact again.

“Yeah?”

“I’m not going to university” she says and I smile slightly.

I guess this is we’re we all confess everything and then it all goes back to normal.

We get married and we live happily ever after.

“I don’t want to anymore and I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you to feel responsible” she says and I nod.

I guess if she did tell me I would feel responsible.

“Listen Liz, I understand why you didn’t tell me…” I say looking at her in the eyes.

“I guess I would have felt responsible, but if you really don’t want to go then I agree” I say and she nods.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you about Samantha… but I promise no more secrets” I say and she nods.

I look into her eyes and I see something that I can not place.

“Max…” she starts and I look up.

“I don’t think I can do this anymore … I need time” she says and I look up in shock.

“What do you mean?” I ask sadly.

She can’t be serious…

I thought we had just solved everything …

I thought it was all going to go back to normal…

“I just need to think” she says before removing the engagement ring I placed on her finger the day in the hospital.

I guess things aren’t going back…

At least not yet …

“I’ll see you later” she says as she walks to the door and I stop her with one final plea.

“When are you going to come back?” I ask.

When will I see her again…???

When will I see Sky again…???

“When I have thought it through” she says and smiles slightly at me one last time before walking out the door and I feel my eyes begin to water.

I have screwed up this time…

And now I have no clue when I will see Liz or my daughter again…

I need to make this better …

Not for me but for my family…
