Summery: Take place after Season three. Maria never went with them and Max and Liz never married. Be warned this is filled with angst. I heard this song on the radio the other day and just could not get the idea out of my head. So here it is. Also Italics is Michael talking.



I open my eyes
I try to see but I'm blinded by the white light

“Look at me Michael! You have to look at me or we can’t help you! Where’s Max?” Isabel demanded as she looked to her husband pacing back and forth with the cell phone to his ear.

I’m trying.

“I can’t reach him. He went to check on her.” Kyle said slamming the phone shut. “Damn it we’re out of area.” He told her. “Please Michael open your eyes! You have to open your eyes!”

I can’t. I’m trying but I can’t.

“Don’t you dare give up Michael!” Isabel said as she placed her hands to his chest begging to have her brother’s ability to heal. Knowing it was useless at the same time.

What’s happing? Why am I here? I don’t remember. Why can’t I remember what happened?

“Can’t you see I’m trying?”

What's going on? It hurts. Someone tell me what’s going on. Someone help me. I can’t stand this pain. There is so much pain inside. It’s filling me up. It’s killing me. “Hurts…”

“I know Michael, but you have to hold on buddy. Were almost there. Max will help you. Try again Izzy. Maybe if you could get even a tiny connection…”

“I’ve tried Kyle. He won’t let me in.”

Oh god I know what happened. I didn’t mean it. I just wanted to leave the one place that caused my troubles. This can’t be happening to me. I have to tell her how sorry I am. I didn’t mean anything I said to her. She left me because it. Or did I leave her. Why can’t I remember? OH GOD WHY IS THIS HAPPENIG!

“WERE LOSING HIM!” Kyle screamed from the back of the van. “CAN’T YOU GO ANY FASTER?”

“I’M TRYING.” Isabel screamed back as she pushed the old van as hard as she could.

“WAKE UP MICHAEL! COME ON TALK TO ME!”

You have to tell her I’m sorry. Tell her…tell her I lied. I do love her. Do you hear me Kyle? Please tell me you here me. Tell me you’ll tell her for me. Tell her I love her. No don’t tell her that. She’ll think I gave up. I won’t do that to her. I won’t to do that, Kyle. Everything will be okay you’ll see. Her and I will start from the beginning. I’ll show her that I can be that man she believes me to be. You’ll see Kyle. I promise. Do you hear me? Tell me you can hear me.

You can’t hear me. I know this now. It’s useless. Oh god baby, I’m so sorry. What have I done? Things used to be so different. Not a care in the world. It was always just you and I. I always knew that no matter how bad the day was going or who was after us. All I had to do was come home to you and nothing else would matter. They’re telling me to fight. I’m trying baby. “MAX! HURRY! Hold on Michael, he’s right here.” Kyle screamed as he lifted Michael out of the back of the van.

“What the hell happened?” Max asked as he quickly knelt down to help his friend.

“We don’t know Max. We found him on the side of the road. His bike…Oh god!” Isabel said as she covered her mouth with her hands trying to hold her tears at bay as much as possible. She had to be strong. She knew this.

“MICHEAL!”

“Get her at of her!” Max screamed as he looked at the woman running down the poarch steps. “Alright Michael I know you can hear me, so open your eyes. Let me in.” Max said as he tried to form a connection. “Come on Damn It.” He whispered trying to find even the slightest bit of connection. He wasn’t going to give up. “Please Michael, she lost Alex. You can’t let her lose you too.”

“What happened to him?” Liz screamed as she fought against Kyle’s hold. “Michael! Answer me!” she yelled.

“Liz, look at me.” Kyle demanded of petit brunet. “You have to remain calm. You can’t get up set.” He said as he cast a quick glance to her stomach. “You and I know Max is going to do everything in his powers to help him.”

“What happened to him?” she whispered as she looked over Kyle’s shoulder to the two men by the car.

“I don’t know.” He said softly while shaking his head. “Izzy and I have been searching for him since you called last night. We came up on his bike lying in the dirt…”he said trailing not wanting to continue.

“What aren’t aren’t you telling me?”

“I’m sorry Liz.” The strangled apology caused the two friends to turn towards the voice. No words were needed. The sight alone of Isabel on her knees rocking back forth said it all.

“NO!” She demanded as she ran over and shoved Max back. “Michael Anthony Guerin you better open you damn eyes right this minute. I will not let you die on me. Do you understand me?” She screamed as she pulled him into her lap. “You stupid idiot. How could you do this to me? How could you leave me? What did you do?” She cried. Looking at her friends she pulled him closer to her, his head resting on her chest oblivious to the blood seeping into her shirt. She watched as Kyle pulled his wife into his arms trying to comfort her. She was vaguely aware of Max resting his hand on her shoulder.

“He thought I cheated on him.” She whispered as the tears slid down her face. “This idiot actually believed I was cheating on him.”

“That’s crazy.” Max said to her.

“Because I have been keeping something from him.” She continued not hearing him. “He started to follow me. He was so blinded by his stupidity. He could never believe that someone could love him like I did. Hank did that to him. Made him feel like he was nothing. But I loved him. I did.” She insisted

“We know, Liz.” Isabel said as she pulled herself from Kyle’s arms.

“I’m pregnant.” She told Isabel and Max. Kyle already knew. It was his power after all, to sense others. “That’s what I was keeping from him. I was going to surprise him on his birthday.”

“I’m sorry Liz. Let me take him, please.” Kyle said as he gently pulled his best friend’s lifeless body away from his wife. “Take her inside, Iz.”

Kyle and Max watched as Isabel gently lifted Liz to her feet and slowly led her into the house. “Kyle.” She called out to him.

“Yeah Liz?”

“I know what your hiding.” She said turning back.

“What are you talking about, Liz?” Max asked looking back and forth between Kyle and Liz.

“It was no accident.” She said looking to the sky. “He was tired of it all. There was nothing I could do. I know that now.” Then she turned into the house leaving the three of them staring at her as she walked away.

What have I done? I’m sorry! I wanna go back, but I can’t. I’m sorry, Liz! Forgive me.
