Summary: Liz Parker lives in Los Angeles and dealing with her own demons or rather pushing them into the background, what happens when her brother's best friend Max Evans enters her life?
A/N: Ok so this is the third story I'm working on at the moment (I know sucker for punishment) but this is the one I am most organized with so I'm posting it. Feedback please from you lovely people, thank you.x
Chapter 1
"Ok, ok, I’m coming!" Liz Parker sighed as her petite form walked towards her apartment door pulling her long brown hair into a pony tail on top of her head.
BANG BANG BANG!
"Jeez, I'm not deaf!" she cried as she flung open the door.
"Whattup little Lizzie."
"Michael? What are you doing here?" she said as she pulled him into a hug.
"What I need an excuse to see my baby sister now," Michael replied nonchalantly as he broke the hug and wondered into her 2 bedroom apartment.
"No but judging by the luggage you’re carrying I’m guessing that this isn't just a flying visit." Liz said glancing at the 3 suitcases he had brought with him.
"Oh yeah I thought I’d come and stay with you for a while," He shrugged whilst heading to the fridge and surveying its contents.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold the phone. What happened to living it up as a fancy ass chef in Boston? Are you going back?"
"Nah," Michael replied with his mouth full of a half eaten cheese and ham salad sandwich which Liz has put there God knows how long ago.
"Thought I’d see LA has to offer, kinda got fired from Ricardo's. I mean how was I supposed to know that the new guy was his nephew, he was a numb nuts."
Liz rolled her brown eyes, great this was all she needed. Liz co-owned a beauty salon called Destiny with her best friends Maria Deluca, Isabel Richards and Tess Harding.
They all met at NYU, all studying different things but became fast friends, she couldn't quite remember whose idea it was to go into the beauty industry but after taking night classes while studying they became qualified beauticians and where better to open a beauty salon than the image capital of the world Los Angeles.
Destiny had just started to take off and the last thing Liz wanted right now was to come home after a long day to find her brother festering on the couch like some follically enhanced sloth but ultimately she knew she had no choice, damn family loyalty!
"Fine,” she sighed. "But my house my rules Mike which means toilet seat down, no eating in bed cos it’s gross and I don't wanna see you walking around here in your boxers scratching your hairy ass."
"I do not have a hairy ass thank you very much!!" He shrieked as he flopped down onto the couch and started flicking through the TV channels. Liz sat down next to him.
"So Lizzie you still with that waste of space. Whats he called Sam?"
"Sean,” Liz corrected "And no we broke up."
"Why? That bastard cheated on you didn't he? I swear to God if he did I’ll make him wish he was never born." Michael ground out as he started to stand up obviously outraged and ready to end Sean's life for messing with his little sister.
"Whoa there Rocky. He didn't cheat on me and I didn't cheat on him so let’s just drop it."
Liz said she really didn't want to talk about this right now. Michael sat back down reluctantly, he knew she was hiding something but decided to drop it.
Liz and Sean dated for about 18 months, they moved in together about 6 months into their relationship after Isabel moved out of their apartment to move in with her boyfriend and Liz's childhood best friend Alex Whitman.
Sean had a good heart but his line of "work" wasn't exactly legal he was involved in forgeries, conning people and basically stealing. Liz was ashamed to admit that for a while the danger kind of turned her on, but then three months ago the inevitable happened and Sean was jailed for 5 years on charges of forgery, fraud and theft as well as some other technical stuff that Liz couldn't really remember, not that it mattered.
Liz's family didn't know, how was she supposed to tell her parents and brother that the guy who she lived with was now a convicted criminal and even worse she knew all along and didn't stop him, not to mention what happened after.
Deep down Liz was happy that Michael was here, she was lonely and she missed her big brother.
"OH YEAH!" He exclaimed making her jump. "WWF!" Michael tilted to the side and let one go.
"Oh yeah, get a smell of that!" he said waving arm in Liz's direction.
Ok so maybe it was really deep down.

Chapter 2
"So how long is he staying?" Maria Deluca asked her best friend as they were sitting at the reception area of Destiny looking at their appointments for the day on the computer.
Maria was about 3 inches taller than Liz and had short blonde hair which flicked out at the ends, green eyes and a dazzling smile which often got her out of trouble after she'd opened her mouth.
"God knows," replied Liz. "Knowing Mike he won't be in any hurry to get off his backside and look for an apartment."
"Morning ladies," Tess Harding cheerily said with a coffee holder in her hands from starbucks. "I've got pepper mint tea for you Ria," she said as she handed Maria the paper cup.
"Gracias."
"A low fat latte for you Liz."
"Thanks hun."
"And an ice tea for Is." Tess said as she looked around. "Isabel not in yet?"
"No, not yet," Liz replied as Isabel Richards came bustling in.
"Sorry guys my car wouldn't start so I had to run." She said breathing heavily.
Liz bet that the guys walking down the streets that morning were in heaven seeing Isabel running.
Isabel, like Tess, was stunning with long blonde hair and boobs to die for, the difference between Tess and Isabel was that Isabel had brown eyes rather than blue and was a good seven or eight inches taller than Tess who was the same height as Liz, 5'2".
All four girls were gorgeous and always attracted male attention while they were out.
"No big," Liz replied. "Now Tess you have three manicures this morning two regular and one deluxe and this afternoon you have two leg waxes and a bikini, Maria your doing facials all day until 3pm when you have a pedicure and leg wax, Is you have an eyelash and eyebrow tint, a underarm and leg wax and in the afternoon a seaweed wrap and I’ll man the reception and work the tanning booth. That ok with everyone?"
Everyone nodded as they looked on the monitor and took the names of their clients down.
One thing that was important to them was don't forget the clients name when giving a treatment, this had happened on many occasions some were regulars so they knew their names but people get really snotty about it.
"Coolio, off to work!" Maria said with her first in the air as she made her way into the salon.
One part of the salon was a warm orange color with wall lights and paintings everywhere to create a soothing environment which was used for facials and massages, the other area was painted white with wall lights on the side and was spotless, this area was used for all the other treatments so the girls could see what they're doing.
"So we out tonight?" Tess said as they walked into the salon and started setting up.
"Hell yeah!" Maria replied whilst gathering her facial products. "It's karaoke night."
"Yay." Tess said happily. "I hope that Scott guy's there again this week, he was mighty fine."
"I'm up for it," Liz said. "I need a man tonight." Maria, Tess and Isabel exchanged looks.
Ever since Liz broke up with Sean she'd started hooking up with random strangers, which was so unlike her.
They knew what went down with Sean and that Liz wasn't looking for a serious relationship right now but they were worried about her, even though Liz was the responsible one she was the youngest, only by about six months but they still felt maternal towards their little Lizzie.
"I'm in," said Isabel trying to calculate how many wax strips she needed.
Tuesday night at their local bar Patrick’s was karaoke night and they all had their own songs, Maria's was It's Raining Men, Isabel's was the Shoop Shoop song with the girls as backing singers, Tess's was Fame from her favorite movie and Liz's was Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
They sang other songs too but these were there regulars.
"Maybe you and Julio can do Elton and KiKi again," Liz said laughing.
"Oh my God that was so funny, you'd have thought he'd let me be KiKi." Tess replied as the girls laughed whilst preparing for the day and laughing happily.

"No, I told you Mr. Willis, you only have rights to the Appleby estate after the 30th, Estelle was within her rights to have you removed from the premises," Max Evans said rubbing his temples as he talked to a client on the speaker phone.
Only 10 am great he thought as he glanced at his clock eight hours to go, at least.
"Mr. Willis, I'll send you the paperwork with agreement on it. Ok. Goodbye."
He pressed the button on his intercom.
"Caroline, could you get me a coffee please."
"Certainly Mr. Evans," came the distorted reply.
Max looked around his office and sighed, he had been a lawyer at his father's firm since he had graduated from college.
It was always his dream to be a lawyer, well actually his father's dream for him. Not that Max was ungrateful he knew a lot of people didn't have the opportunity to do what he did and work in a million dollar company in Boston but he couldn't help but feel there was more to life than this.
Max dated but it was fairly casually and all the women he'd dated were high class and usually bitches.
His father Philip Evans was always introducing Max to them hoping he would marry into another high class family. He was currently "dating" Serena Edwards whose father was one of the head honchos of a wealthy shipping company.
Max used the term dating fairly loosely sure they'd gone to a few high society events together but it wasn't the romance of the century Serena was a bitch and he knew it. He only slept with her once and even then he was drunk.
Lately Max felt empty, unfulfilled even more so since his best friend Michael had moved to L.A. after he got fired to be with his sister.
Max had never met her but knew that Michael adored his little sister and was happy to find an excuse to go and see her but Max missed him.
Michael was like no-one else he knew, no frills, he wouldn't kiss ass no matter who it was Max admired him for it.
A knock on the door brought him out of his musings and his secretary Caroline entered with his coffee.
"Thanks," Max said as he took the mug and started blowing his black coffee to cool it down.
"No, problem. You have a meeting at 2:30 with your father so I pushed your 3pm with Mr. Weinstein back an hour incase it over runs."
"Thanks," Max said again as his amber eyes looked over some paperwork. Caroline nodded and headed out of the office.
"Oh and Caroline. It's Max; Mr Evans makes me sound like my father." He said as he smiled up at her.
She had only been working with the firm for about two weeks. She was around 35 and was married and had two children, Caroline was one of the only genuine people who worked in the building.
"Ok, Max," she smiled as she walked out of the office.
Max continued with his work, only seven hours, forty five minutes to go.

By the way the songs in this part may have been my favorites to sing at karaoke too, I was once booed off stage cos I sang Wake Me Up Before You Go Go 4 times in 1 night (obviously they were jealous of my heavenly voice and Wham style dancing.......

Ok I decided to post 2 & 3 because I thought 2 was kind of short.
Chapter 3
"Hello," Max said as he reached for his phone whilst reading over a contract.
"Whattup man," Michael replied.
"Hey what's up man," Max smiled into the phone, "How’s L.A. treating you?"
"Its awesome dude, seriously I had a walk round today and the chicks are out of the world. I'm telling you man you should get your ass out here." Michael had been in L.A. for about three weeks now.
"Mmmm, tempting but I haven't got time for a vacation work is a bitch lately," he replied looking at the pile of work he still had to get through before he went home.
"Seriously Maxwell, why don't you just jack it in, you’re miserable, you’re dating a class A bitch and your job is like watchin paint dry. Come to L.A. it’s the place to be."
"Michael," Max sighed as he rubbed his temples, which was becoming habit for him lately,
"I can't just quit my job, a lot of people would kill for this job plus my father would disown me."
"Who gives a rat's ass? True a lot of people would want your job but you don't and newsflash Max there are lawyer’s office in L.A. and you could stay with me and Liz until you find your feet, just think about it."
"Fine," he relented. Was it wrong of him to actually be considering it? "I'll think about."
He missed his best friend and he was seriously bored with his life plus its not like he couldn't get another job he was a good lawyer despite the fact his father gave him the job.
"Actually scratch that, I will come to L.A."
"Really?" Michael hadn't expected his friend to agree so quickly being impulsive was something Max was not, even buying a pair of sneakers with Max almost drove Michael to suicide everything from they're the wrong color, they're not practical, they're too bright, they're too dull, they're too expensive, they're too cheap so they're probably crap, blah, blah, blah.
"Yeah absolutely," for once Maxwell Philip Evans would take control of his life and do something he wanted.
"Your sister won't mind me staying with you guys will she?"
"Nah, she'll be cool," he replied.
Crap, Michael thought, he hadn't actually considered the possibility of Max agreeing to come out here at least not so soon. Liz was gonna have a fit.
Michael spent the next five minutes giving Max the address and other details.
After they hung up Michael weighed up his situation on the one hand his best friend was coming out and he was thrilled (although stonewall Michael Parker would never admit to it) and on the other his little sister would kill him for inviting a stranger to her home.
A plan started to formulate in his mind as he continued to watch T.V.
*
Liz froze as she unlocked the door to her apartment.
Had Michael actually cleaned?
"Hey Liz," he said as he appeared from the kitchen, "How was your day?"
Liz couldn't get her mouth to work to put it mildly she was in shock, was this the same Michael Parker who used to turn his underwear inside out to avoid doing laundry, who only bathed when flys started gathering around him?
Have I stepped into the twilight zone? Oh my God the fumes from the tanning booth had finally gotten to me or it’s a dream, it’s got to be.
Liz was brought out of her thoughts when she felt herself being lowered to a dining room chair that Michael had led her to.
"I also cooked you dinner, Coq au Vin your favorite." Michael said as he put the plate down in front of her and sat down with his own plate.
He was pretty darn proud of himself he'd vacuumed, polished, organized things, done her laundry and his, ok so maybe he had to ask Liz's friend Maria for her help with it, it was her day off so he'd had to pay her for it, damn that girl was annoying Michael thought. He had to pay her an extra $50 to stop her blabbering her big mouth to Liz.
The food was delicious but Liz wasn't really surprised about that, her brother was a great chef. After her initial shock suspicion set in.
"That was great Mike," she said as she got up to put her plate in the sink.
"No, no allow me." he smiled as he stood up and took the plate from her. Alarm bells started ringing; did he just smile at her? Ok something is up.
"So Michael," Liz said as he sat back down, "You've cooked, cleaned, done my laundry and are acting human for once, what do you want?"
"Liz," Michael gasped as he put his hand on his heart, "Can't a guy be nice to his little sister who works so hard?"
"Yes, a guy can, you can't. Seriously Michael what do you want?"
Michael avoided eye contact as he said "I'veinvitedmyfriendMaxtostaywithusfromBoston."
"WHAT?!" Wow Michael thought he'd have to repeat himself.
"Are you crazy?! You've invited a complete stranger to live with us in MY home without even asking me?! Jesus Michael does this look like a fucking hotel to you?!"
"Calm down Liz. It's Max he's not a stranger." Michael reasoned.
"To you. I've never met the guy in my life. I can't believe you Michael. How longs he staying?"
"Just until he finds his feet, it’s his first time here, please Lizzie, please?" Michael said giving her his puppy dog eyes; he was bringing out the big guns now.
"Fine," Liz replied, it looked like she didn't have much of a choice. "But I want rent from him too."
"No problem, I love you Bizzie Lizzie."
"Yeah, yeah," she said rolling her eyes as he hugged her. Liz couldn't help but wonder about Max, she hoped he was a decent guy.
"Come on Prison Break's on," he said as he pulled her towards the couch.
"Uh, no thanks," she said looking at the screen; it was a little too close to home.
*Flashback*
Liz held on lightly to her purse as she walked past the prisoners who were waiting for there visitors ignoring the wolf whistles of the convicts who were leering at her as she walked past them to Sean who was sat at the other side of the glass.
Liz sat down, the nerves and the smell of sweat around her making her feel sick.
"Hey," Sean said quietly as he looked at the woman at the other side of the glass "You look good Liz."
"Thanks," Liz replied softly. Sean looked at the broken look on his loves face and felt awful from the knowledge that he'd put it there.
He thought he was untouchable, he should have known it was a set up he'd sensed something wrong when he heard about the deal but he did it anyway.
"How are you?" she asked with tears swimming in her eyes, Sean's heart broke.
"I'm good this place its not so bad, just keep your head down. What about you?"
"I'm ok. We got a new tanning booth at Destiny."
She didn't know why she was telling him something so mundane but she didn't know what else to say, for the first time in their relationship things were awkward.
Sean nodded. After a few more minutes of Liz telling him what she had been up to he plucked up his courage.
"Look Liz, I don't want you coming in here anymore," he put his hand up to stop her objection, he knew her too well.
"I don't want you in this environment; I don't like the way the guys in here look at women like they're a piece of meat, you’re too good for that." Liz looked at him, silent tears running down her cheeks.
"Lizziebee, please don't wait for me, I want you to move on," he continued quietly as he swallows past the lump in his throat.
"I want you to live your life, find a guy who'll treat you right; who thinks the sun rises and falls with you."
His voiced cracked; he stood up and looked down meeting her eyes.
"Goodbye Elizabeth, I love you." He put his hand on the glass separating them as she stood up.
"Goodbye Sean," she touched the glass over his hand, gave him a weak smile as she walked out of his life forever.
Liz walked back to the car sobbing Tess got out of the drivers seat where she was waiting for her and ran up to her friend pulling her into a hug.
"Shh, its ok, it’s ok," she could guess what had just happened.
"Shh honey." Tess said soothingly as she helped Liz into her car and drove her home.
*End of flashback*
"Um, I think I’ll just go to bed, it’s been a long day," Liz said as she made her way to her room.
"Night Mike."
"Night Liz."

See you next Friday guys

Thank you for the FB peeps.
I told Laira I'd post this yesterday but I forgot I had a hair appointment (I'm blonde now) but better late by like a month (sorry about that) than never. Anyhoo enough with my jabbering here's the next part. Hope you like. Thank you!
Chapter 4
The girls left Maria and Tess's apartment dressed to kill Maria had her hair loose and was wearing a leopard print top with gold belt and black mini skirt.
Tess's hair curly blond hair was piled on top of her head and she wore a light blue dress which reached just below mid thigh with silver stillettoes, a silver choker and diamond earrings.
Isabel wore her hair down and curly with a red top which tied around the neck and plunging neckline which gathered just above the valley of her breasts and a white mini skirt with red kitten heel sandals.
Liz also wore he hair loose and curled. She wore a hot pink halter top with white spots and a pair of white short shorts, fish net tights and pink heels.
They had been invited to a grand opening of a new nightclub by a client who had put there names on the VIP list.
When they got to the club it was already pretty full, Tess and Isabel went to find a table while Liz and Maria went to the bar to get the drinks.
"Hey," Maria said as the behind the bar came over. He was wearing a tuxedo and looked pretty uncomfortable.
"Can we get a pina colarda, a woo woo and 2 screaming orgasms please."
"Sure," he replied raking his eyes over Maria's figure.
Her and Liz took a seat by the bar while they waited. A guy walked up to Liz.
"Hey princess," he said smoothly, "Can i buy you a drink."
"I'd rather have the money," Liz said taking in his appearance, he wore a red shirt and black pants and had dark blond hair, definitely cute.
"Ah," he said looking at her hotly, "How about a dance then?" he gave her a sexy smile.
The bartender came back then with there drinks at that moment.
Liz took stood up and took two in her hand while Maria took the others; she turned back to the guy in front of her.
"How about you come and find me later and I’ll show you my moves," Liz said batting her eyelashes at him.
He looked at her, he liked this chick.
"Sure, princess," he replied, "I got the feeling you'll be worth waitin for."
She smiled at him and made her way over to the leather couch Tess and Isabel sat and they placed the drinks on the glass table.
"You want my cherry Tess," Liz said innocently as she took it from the top of her drink.
"Sure, i'll take your cherry, but once its gone you can't have it back," she said as she took the cherry seductively into her mouth whilst sharing eye contact with a cute guy which a shaved head who was in her eye line.
The guy winked at her and Tess smiled.
"Oh my God!" Maria exclaimed nearly spilling her drink, "There's Lindsay Lohan!!" The girls snapped there heads around to where she was pointing.
"You know i thought she'd be prettier," Isabel said giving her the once over.
"Mmmm," Tess agreed "And she is definitely too skinny." All the girls nodded there agreement.
Max checked the address in his hand one more time, this was definitely the place.
He knocked again, still no answer.
Great, he thought.
He took out his cell phone to call Michael, turned off, perfect. He then dialed the number to the apartment that Michael had given him, he heard it ring through the door.
He wasn't supposed to be here until tomorrow afternoon but after the fallout between him and his parents he came on the first flight out.
He leaned against the door, sinking down to the floor and waited for either Michael or his sister.
A few hours later the girls were all pretty tipsy, they spent the night dancing and sitting back down for a while then getting up to dance again.
Liz and Tess were worst with handling their drink; they were already pretty drunk and didn't show signs of slowing down.
"Hey guys," Liz slurred as she slumped down next to Maria as she put her arm around her. "The restroom attendant gave me a wowwipop."
The sucked into her mouth and started clapping happily.
Tess jumped up excitedly. "I want one!!" and she stumbled away to the restroom.
"Hey princess," a sexy voice said from behind her.
"Look everybody!" she shrieked happily to Isabel and Maria "it's my prince! i told he was gorgeous."
"Wanna dance now?" he asked with a huge smile on his face. Liz stood up and took his hand.
Isabel and Maria looked on as they started dancing and grinding.
"I wish she'd stop doing that." Isabel sighed sadly.
"What?" Maria asked looking at her friend.
"Hooking up with random guys, I know she doesn't want a serious relationship but she can't keep having random one night stands."
"I know," Maria said, "But maybe she'll get over it, she hasn't got over Sean the first guy she fell for who broke her heart."
They watched Liz and the guy kissing and grinding on the dance floor, his hands on her ass pulling her closer.
They saw her nod and then they saw them walk over to them.
"I'm heading out," Liz said giggling as he kissed her neck.
"Okay chica," Maria said sadly and watched Liz disappear.
"We should talk to her, tell her we're worried." Isabel said after a moment. Maria nodded.
"So, I’m not getting any numbers cos i got a man at home but what’s your deal Ria, tons of guys have hit on you and you've snubbed all of them, I’m not saying you have to sleep with like Liz does but at least get some numbers girl!"
"I'm not in the mood," Maria said quietly.
"Come on, spill. You've got your eye on someone else haven't you?"
"How'd you know that?"
"Because I shared a dorm with you for four years, I've seen you practically everyday for five years."
Maria thought for a moment before answering. "Ok, but promise me you won't tell Liz." Isabel nodded "I kinda like Liz's brother."
"Michael? Maria, the guy's obnoxious, cute but obnoxious."
"I know that he drives me crazy and deep down I think he's ok."
Hell she didn't know what she felt for him, he pushed her buttons like no-one else but she was attracted to that in a weird way.
Isabel looked at her.
"Why can't I tell Liz?"
"Because he's her brother there are like rules about liking your friends brother."
Just then Tess came staggering over.
"Hey guys, I don't feel too good," she said looking a bit green, she lost her balance slightly.
"Come on, let's get you home missy," Isabel said as her and Maria stood up and led Tess outside.
Liz stumbled out of the elevator, lip gloss smeared all over her mouth and her hair ruffled, seems like Dylan couldn't wait to get to the bed.
She pulled him down the hallway leading him by the hand for round 2.
When she came in view of her door she halted suddenly Dylan crashing into her. There was a strange man with his head resting on his knees which were drawn closely to his body.
Huh, Liz thought as she let go of Dylan's hand and walked closer, she'd sobered up slightly but was still a little tipsy.
"Hellooooooo." She said loudly making the man jump, she laughed but the laughter stopped when she got a good look at him, he had black hair, cute ears that stuck out slightly and the most mesmerizing amber eyes Liz had ever seen.
Max looked at the woman who had scared the crap out of him. She was beautiful, he thought, she was petite, quite short from what he could tell from the floor, gorgeous tanned legs and chestnut brown layered hair.
They were bought out of there staring match by Dylan falling tugging on her hand.
"Come on, princess, I want some more of your lovin." She ignored him.
"Can I help you?" she asked the guy at her door.
"Excuse me?" he asked stilled gazing at the brunette beauty in front of him.
"You’re sitting at my door," she said. He snapped out of his daze.
"Oh, are you Michael's sister?"
"Oh, you’re Max." She said looking at the bags by his feet the penny starting to drop. "I'm Liz; I thought you weren't coming til Monday?"
"Oh sorry, change of plan, i can check into a hotel if-"
"No, that’s ok don't worry. Why are you sitting outside the door?"
"No-one's home," he said smiling slightly.
"Oh yeah Mike's gone to a hockey match, no football, no actually it might be hockey," she said the last bit more to herself.
Max smiled, she was adorable, obviously slightly drunk.
"Listen come on lets go inside." Dylan started making his way to the door. Liz put her hand up to stop him.
"Um, I’m gonna take a rain check."
"It's not raining," Dylan said looking slightly confused. Even with her hazy mind she knew he hadn't got her meaning, she decided to be bold.
"No sex. Go home." She walked past him and opened the door Max following her as he looked at the guy who was just about to argue and follow Liz inside.
"Leave her alone." He growled.
Max didn't know what had gotten into him, he had only known the girl for less that a couple of minutes but he already felt protective of her. He walked into the apartment closing the door behind him.

Chapter 5
Liz took off her shoes as she made her way to the kitchen, Max put his bags down and followed her.
"Would you like a drink?" she asked as she started making some coffee for herself.
"Sure, I'll have what you’re having," he replied.
Things were awkward, Liz embarrassed that Max's first impression of her was when she was drunk and about to invite a guy to her bed and Max embarrassed because he felt like a burden.
She gave him his coffee and he followed her to the couch.
"I hope you don't mind that this is your bed," she said as they sat down.
"It's ok. Thanks for letting me stay here."
"No probs," They smiled at each other suddenly feeling at ease.
"So," Liz said as she took a sip of her coffee. "What brings you to La La land? You an aspiring actor or something?"
Max laughed. "No, nothin like that. I just got bored of life in Boston, it became so routine I'd lived there all my life, felt like a change. I'm a lawyer by the way."
Liz nodded; he looked like a lawyer she thought.
"You think Boston's boring try living in small town Roswell New Mexico."
Max smiled "Ah, yes, Michael's told me all about that place, he said you guys worked in your parents’ alien themed restaurant, where he was "King of the Kitchen"."
She smiled "Mmm. the Crashdown at least Mike didn't have to wear those hideous uniforms, actually picturing him in the uniforms gives me the creeps," she said shuddering.
Max thought she had the most gorgeous smile, hell everything about her was gorgeous, her eyes, her hair, her body and she also didn't seem like a snob or an airhead but she also didn't seem the type of girl to bring guys home and have meaningless sex but her and the guy with her before looked like they were about to do just that. He was sure he wasn't reading her wrong.
Max looked at her eyes and he saw brief flickers of sadness in there which disappeared as soon as they came.
"So Liz, what do you do?" He asked as he took a sip of his coffee.
"I'm a beautician." She replied.
"Really? Think you can do anything with this old face," he said as he rubbed his chin and smiled.
"You don't need any improvements you’re already gorgeous." Liz blushed as she'd realized what she had said; her inhibitions were still slightly intoxicated.
Max laughed, she was so cute! Never in a million years did he think that Michael's sister would have this kind of effect on him.
He knew his best friend cared a lot about his little sister, there was even one time in there freshman year when Michael had flown back to Roswell to kick a guy's ass for upsetting Liz. Michael would probably kill him for being attracted to her.
Just then they heard then door opened, ah speak of the devil.
"Max! What are you doing here man?" Michael asked as he walked into to the apartment to find his best friend on the couch talking to his little sister.
"Oh, hey man," Max replied as he stood up and gave each other a manly one armed hug.
"Got up here early." Great he thought Michael and his timing, not that he wasn't happy to see his best friend but he wanted to get to know Liz better.
"Huh," Michael said as he sat down between them.
"I hope Liz isn't being a pain in the ass."
"Hey!" Liz cried. She sighed getting up off the couch.
"I'm going to bed," she said walked towards her room with her shoes in her hand.
"Night guys." She opened the door and turned around before she entered. "It was nice meeting you Max."
"You too Liz," Max said softly as he watched her walk into her bedroom.
Liz leaned back on the closed door. There was something about Max Evans; she couldn't put her finger on it. Everything suddenly seemed different and she had only known him for about 10 minutes.
And she came home with Dylan.
Oh God, Liz thought, he'll think I'm a slut.
"Maybe you are," she whispered quietly to herself before taking off her clothes and climbing into her bed.
"So your sister seems nice," Max said. Michael shrugged. "She has her moments." Max smiled.
"What time you get here?" Michael asked as he turned on the TV.
"About 8."
Michael looked at the clock, 2:15 am.
"Shit, sorry man."
"It's ok I shoulda called."
They both looked at the TV.
Max turned to look at him. "I missed you man."
"Jeez Max, gay." Michael replied with a smirk. Max laughed he knew that Michael missed him too but would never in a million years admit it. Max's mind wandered to Liz again. She wasn't what he expected at all. He had a weird feeling in his stomach like he'd never had before; maybe it was the chicken he ate on his flight. Or maybe it was her.
