Begonia 9508 we are just going to have to watch and see what happens

Natalie36 this is the first thing Liz thinks about but we see today that she is really looking for any reason to not run.

Kittens Are you looking over my shoulder as I write or something?

Martine Tess is as a child in a woman’s body. Caring for her is a little like caring for some who is very old. She asks very pointed questions and th group has a hard time answering them.

Timelord31 believe me caring for an adult can wear you down.

Flamehair Aaron is much wiser than his years. Begonia see below is much like Michael can you trust what she will do

Begonia again see answer to flamehair above. This is the problem as Michael sees it.

Chapter 13

Max was just sitting in the living room. He looked up, “Did you find her?” he asked.

“Yes, Maria and I found her in the park. She is pretty freaked out.” Isabel stated. “Maria is staying with her at my house and I wanted to first see you, then I wanted to see if you know what happened?”

“I talked to Tess for a few minutes. She says she was asking Liz questions. She wouldn’t say what the questions were,” Max replied.

“Well, I am going to go up and talk to Tess to see if I can find out what was going on.” Isabel stood up and got ready to walk up the stairs.

“Do you want me to come with you?” Max asked, but Isabel could tell he didn’t really want to come.

“No, Max, I think it will be just between us women. Maybe, I can get her to tell me more of what went on. Liz is really messed up,” Isabel left Max sitting just staring out the darkenrd window.

Isabel knocked on the door to the room where Tess was staying. It was answered by a very soft, “Come in.”

Isabel entered the room. The lights were off and she could see the shadow of Tess sitting beside her bed. “If I was so bad to every one, why are you all working so hard to take care of me? Why didn’t you just leave me at the sanitarium? I must have been horrible to Liz to cause her to break down like that?” Tess was talking while not looking at Isabel, but rather, just staring out the dark window. Isabel thought that both Tess and Max seemed to think there might be answers somewhere out there in the dark.

Tess what were you and Liz talking about?” Isabel asked.

We were just talking. I found a paper that said I must have been married to Max and I was wandering why I do not have any feeling towards him if I was.” Tess mused as she turned toward the sound of Isabel in the dark.

“Tess, I do not think you ever really loved him. You married him because you thought being married would get you something you wanted,” Isabel stated.

Tess, finally, turned on the light beside the bed. “Liz really loves Max and he loves her. I can see it every time they are together. Why aren’t they married? They should be.” Tess said. Then, she added, “Did I do something to keep them apart?”

Isabel had trouble with this question. She didn’t want to talk to Tess about alien powers yet, but, maybe, if this new Tess was able to see a little of what she had done in the past, she could start on a new life. That is, if she didn’t still have deeply buried any of the old alien lore given to her by Nasado. After all, wasn’t that what they were all afraid of, the old Tess sometime coming back and wielding her alien power, not caring who she hit or who saw her. Nasado had always been careless. He had so much disdain for humans. He always wanted to show all humanity that there was a alien on the loose that they had no ability of containing.

They were going together, Tess, and you did everything you could to drive them apart. You finally said something to make Liz leave because she thought she would be hurting Max if she stayed,” Isabel explained.

“Then, why is she helping me? Why does she drive me to the therapist? Why does Liz live here with Max, but she stays in a separate room? Why is she usually so kind to me if I drove them apart?” Tess had so many questions.

Isabel didn’t have answers for everything Tess asked. The two women just sat in the dark. Finally Isabel went over to the door and turned on the ceiling light. Tess blinked at the glare. Then, she looked at Isabel.

“Tess, my brother is essentially a nice person. He doesn’t do well with people who are mean to others. The old you did mean things to everyone. Helping the new you is what everyone hopes will make up for the things you did. Liz was hurt the worst of all. She is trying the hardest to not let her feelings show and hold a life, you have no memory of, against you. It was her idea to take you out of the sanitarium and it was her idea to get you that job at the Crashdown. She is part owner of that restaurant.” When Isabel left, the last thing she saw was Tess getting ready for bed.

Isabel sat down beside Max. “Apparently, Tess figured out she was married to you. She is confused because she has no feelings toward you. She has noticed how much in love you and Liz are. Max, this might be a turning point.”

Max sat looking out the same window even though Isabel had turned his lights own. Isabel saw no reason if Max and his ex-wife wanted to sit in the dark, that she should have to.”

Isabel, with a heavy heart, returned to her home. When she arrived she found Maria still there. At the moment, Alex was in the spare bedroom talking to Liz.

“Alex, I just do not think I can keep this up. I don’t even have the privilege of hating this woman. She is a stranger who does not know as much as we do of what she was. I am sorry I came back, Alex.” Liz was so upset.

Alex in his perfectly calm voice, “Liz, if you hadn’t returned, you know that Tess would probably have the little boy in custody now and be subjecting him to the emissary. She might have done to him what she did to his mother to enhance his alien side to better be assured the emissary would accept him. Liz, no matter what the toll on you has been, you have probably saved Aaron.”

Liz was sitting with her head in her hands. No matter what her feeling was toward Max or what problems she and Max had, she did love Aaron. “Alex, I am not strong enough to keep this up. I need Max or I need to get away from him. I just can’t keep seeing him every day and I don’t think he can keep doing this much longer, either.”

“For tonight, Liz, just lay back down and rest. In the morning, we will try to figure out what can be done,” Alex instructed.

Back at Max’s place, Max was sitting in the kitchen trying to correct papers that were three days over due. Aaron was in bed and the house was totally quiet. With Liz gone, the house seemed very lonesome. Max became aware of Tess entering the room. He looked up. Tess was wearing only a shear nightgown. He looked at her and, for several minutes, he said nothing. She stood there. Yes, she was still a pretty woman, but Max was now and he had always been, in love with Liz. Max remembered the other time Liz had left him. He had been only 16 years old. Then when she was gone, Tess had confronted him almost naked. When she shed her clothes Max, had only the raging hormones of a 16-year-old boy. He had been consumed with lust. He really wanted it to be Liz, but she had run off. His 16-year-old mind had been taunted with visions for several weeks. His body had just been subjected to the trials of the white room. The offering Tess made so long ago was just too tempting. Even after he had consumed what she was offering in place of love, Max had a terrible feeling that he had cheated on Liz. Then he then tried to tell himself, like Maria had continually said. Liz has moved on. All he would ever have of Liz would be a flawed memory. Tess was offering reality, but deep down he never believed that. After Tess had become pregnant, Max had all sorts of guilt feelings, but he also had feelings of responsibility. He had created something and it was his responsibility to care for it. After the daughter came, Max loved her so much that he even for a time forgot her mother. When Tess had brought the emissary to test Felicia Max had stood back and assumed that this was the way his life was destined to go. He would try to be the king of his destiny. When Felicia was rejected, Max simply was prepared to build a life around her and he expected Tess to do likewise. Tess went wild. Max knew that she was cheating on him constantly. He just turned his life into raising Felicia. When Tess notified him she wanted a divorce, Max was num with regard to her.

Now, Max was again being confronted with the almost naked body of Tess. This time he was older. He had slept with Liz that one time just before Tess blew up his house. It wasn’t the body of Liz that he now lusted for as much as the company and comfort of Liz herself. Max wanted again to love Liz, but he also wanted to believe Liz would be with him every time he doubted himself. No, he had no more feeling for what Tess was offering, than he would have looking at the centerfold of a Playboy magazine. Interesting, but not real.

“What do you want, Tess?” Max asked.

Tess shrugged, “I wanted to see if there was any feeling between us. I knew that I didn’t seem to have any and I wanted to see if you did.”

“Tess, that was all in the past. I don’t think either of us ever loved the other. I was confused and you wanted to gain something by being married to me. I do not think that either of us knew love, even momentary love,” Max stated looking right at Tess.

Tess returned to the other room and picked up her robe. “What are you going to do with me?” she asked.

What do you mean, Tess?” Max was perplexed. He had said nothing to her to indicate that he intended to make any changes in her care.

“Max, you are going to loose Liz if you do not figure out how to hold her. I do not think me being here is going to help you,” with that, Tess went back to her room.

The weeks went by. Liz still took Tess to therapy sessions. She did not stay at Max’s house. Liz didn’t stay at the Crashdown much when Tess had a shift either. She was helping Max take care of Tess, but she was not allowing her self to be either with Tess or Max when she could help it. So far, she hadn’t run away from Roswell.

Tess was working the night shift. When Tess wasn’t working Liz many days would sit in the Crashdown and read. She was indulging in this when she felt a tug at her sleeve. She looked up, or rather down, to see Aaron. Behind him was Diane. Aaron slid into the booth opposite Liz and Diane sat beside him. “Liz, we miss you. Grandpa misses you so much and so do I!” Aaron said.

Liz tried to smile. “I know Aaron, but sometimes it is necessary for a person not to be where you want them to be.”

“Liz, Tess misses you, also,” Aaron said softly.

Liz frowned at this. She noticed that Tess had been extraordinarily quiet the last few times she had taken her to therapy. Diane had little to say and after the affirmation of Aaron, they just sat and talked for a short while about nothings.

Liz received a call from Tess’s therapist, “Liz could you come by and talk to me? It involves Tess, you and Max.”

Liz drove to the doctor’s office. “Good morning, Mrs. VanDorne. This is going to be terribly awkward. I have to respect the confidentiality of Miss Harding, but I also have to respect her request. She is convinced that she interfered with the relationship between you and Mr. Evans. You listed yourself as a friend of Mr. Evans when we first talked. I know that you stayed with him while taking care of Miss Harding at first. Now, I need to know more about your situation if I am to treat Miss Harding. She is developing extreme remorse for things she says she must have done. She is also not able to remember what they were. Can you shed any light on what they were and help me so I can form my therapy for her?”

Liz sat there for several minutes. No, she couldn’t tell the therapist that Tess wanted to take Max back to an alien kingdom, maybe to be executed. She couldn’t tell her that all those around Tess were frightened that she might regain her past memories and, again, become a threat. She couldn’t tell her that Tess had stolen away much of the lives of both her and Max. What could she tell her? “Max and I were sweethearts in high school. Of course, at that time, we were very awkward in our feelings for one another. Tess came and deliberately drove a wedge between us. By various means, she made my life uncomfortable enough so that I left Roswell. With me gone, she went to Max. He got her pregnant, but she wasn’t satisfied and, after four years, she left Max and her child. The child was terribly tramatized and she went wild so that neither Max nor his mother could handle her. Max’s daughter got pregnant before she was 16. She was killed a few years later. Tess returned to take the grandson away from Max. We do not know what she did, but she was caught in an explosion that almost killed all of us. That is when she lost her memory. Max is the only relative she has, so he assumed her care. I am still a friend of Max’s, so I agreed to help him as long as I stay in Roswell. Tess’s past history is one of terrible hurts and pain.” Liz wondered did she say anything that would come back to haunt the aliens?

The therapist leaned back. I thought there was a tragedy somewhere. “The best thing we can do for Tess is not to restore her memory, but to help her move on. First, she needs to try to take responsibility for her own care. Then, you and Mr. Evans need to take care of your own relationship and Tess needs to know that you are doing so. She has expressed to me that she wants to live on her own as soon as possible. You might see if that could be arranged.”

Liz stood up. The therapist seemed not to have anything else to say. Driving home, Liz kept thinking, ‘You and Mr. Evans need to take care of your own relationship and Tess needs to know that you are doing so.’ A simple phrase, but to accomplish that would take the effort to move a mountain. Liz was feeling trapped. Leaving Max now would mess everything up. For a while, she would be forced to stay. Liz had a funny thought. Maybe, this is what she wanted, anyhow, an excuse to stop running.

That night Liz called a meeting. She arranged them all to meet at Max’s house. Tess was working the late shift so it would be safe there. Maria wanted to be at the meeting with Michael and Isabel also wanted Alex. They both arranged babysitters. The meeting couldn’t be long because Tess would be off and back to Max’s house by 9:00. Aaron would be playing in his room. Jim also came by. He had a grin on his face. “Kyle wrote me that he will be back in Roswell next week.” Since Maria’s mother, Amy, who was also Jim’s second wife had died, Kyle was all the family he had.

Michael was surly, “As long as Tess is alive, we are all in danger. Someday her memory is going to come back and then, bam!! She is going to hit us all when we least expect it.”

Max listened to Michael, but he still wasn’t ready to talk about murder. Liz had already made it clear she wanted no part of murder, no matter who did it and Jim agreed with her.

It was a meeting called by Liz. She essentially reported what the therapist had said. Liz outlined what she told the therapist and, also, what she had deliberately left out. She mentioned what the therapist said about her and Max, but, except to say that Tess needed to know they had worked out their problems to an agreeable solution, Liz didn’t talk any more about them. She did state that the therapist felt that Tess should, maybe, be given more responsibility for her own care.

Michael stood up and in a loud voice said, “No, no, that is exactly what we do not need! If Tess is allowed to live alone, what is to keep her from returning to her old ways? We will not know anything about it.”

Michael was adamant. He wanted Tess supervised or dead.

A tiny voice was heard, “Uncle Mike, she can’t return. When the blast was reversed, it burned out the center of any power. All of her memories were in her power. That is why she can’t come back or remember anything,” Aaron was sitting on the stair steps. No one had noticed him come down the stairs. It was later when they learned that what he said wasn’t completely correct.

Michael turned angry to look at him, but Michael couldn’t be angry at a child. He also knew that this child was something special. Michael and Alex, alike, had been watching their children to catch any abnormality before it was noticed at school. So far, their children were outwardly all normal. Michael always knew that Max’s grandkid did have powers and he was going to help in the training as soon as Aaron grew up a little more. He sat down.

Maria put her arm around his neck and her head on his shoulder. She could feel the tension leaving his body. Isabel was convinced that, now, the only thing they needed to do was find a way to implement the therapist suggestions. Alex agreed. Jim was quiet. At least the talk of murder had subsided. Max and Liz had their own problems and they knew that it would be up to them alone to find any workable solutions.

Liz stood up. “ I could move back with Max and let Tess take the living quarters of the Crashdown. She could take on more responsibility at her work and we would all be fairly close to monitor her.”

Max was surprised. Liz moving back with him meant that, maybe, he would have another chance. Michael was calming down. The words of Aaron had a lot of effect on him. Max would be the one to talk to Tess. He would suggest the move and see if it would meet with her approval.

They were all gone by the time Tess got home. She was tired, but she was game about keeping up her work.

“The therapist says you need to think about living on your own,” Max started. “What do you think? Tess was a little surprised because she well knew that they didn’t trust her. She just looked at Max.

“Would this be possible?” she inquired.

Liz has suggested that she could let you have the Crashdown living quarters if you want, at least for a while,” Max returned.

“Where would Liz go?” Tess asked.

“She would come here and see if we could start up our relationship,” Max responded.

Tess thought several minutes. “Do you think I am ready?” she asked again.

“I think it would be up to you, Tess. Do you think you are ready to be on your own? We will still help you, but you could start having some time to your self and, maybe, even be thinking about going back to school and getting your education.”

Tess had left school without graduating or getting her General Equivalency Diploma, commonly called the GED. These were things Tess hadn’t allowed herself time to consider. She still wondered why Liz would do this for her. Liz was, essentially, giving up the home where she was raised. Tess, again in her mind, asked, “What did I do to Liz? She doesn’t forgive me, but she is so willing to help me. Why, if I was married to Max, don’t I have some residual of this relationship? Why did he show nothing above a mild interest when I stood before him in my nightgown the other night. Did I do something terrible to him? No one will tell me about my daughter. What did I do to her?” These and other questions were plaguing Tess. She would have to talk to her therapist about them. The therapist had talked to Liz. Tess knew this because the therapist had already had her session with her. There were things that Tess was curious about her former life, but then, reason set in. In her former life, she was hated. and now she was tolerated and even helped. Maybe, just maybe, she should decide to leave some things alone.

Begonia9508 I do not know Eve. I have seen girls at school do things, though not that extreme just to see if they could get a rise out of a guy. I had a girl in the back of the room once open her blouse to see if she could get a reaction out of me. No other student could see her. i simply shrugged and went back to correcting my papers. I was no fun i didn't make a fuss or turn her into the office. I am far from expert on the feminine mind even when I am writing it.

Yes that was the best way for her to have a home where she could be watched and secretly Liz was trying to find a way to have to go back to Max.

I think Liz's feeling about running away was in her mind. Yes she had done it only once but that exit was ever in her thinking.

Tess was Max’s wife but if he undertook all the doing for her it would seem that he might be going back to her. I do not know.

So many times in life I have watched people waltz around each other. neither willing to completely to give in. There is a chance they both might loose. Case in point. Alex when he was talking to Isabel after the prom. If he had just said YES! I will be there in a minute things might have been different. striving for position looses more than it wins.

Natalie36 that is the reason I can’t ever go into therapy. I never can trust any one to share all of the facts.

Martine sometime I think you and Eve are ganging up on me. Fearing to trust Tess is the main theme of this story at this point. So someway I have to show a way to prove she is to be trusted don’t I? Hope I can do it.

As a teacher I can only say that I have found the greatest wisdom in children. Aaron is very powerful as you will see later.

Flamehair. Well good I have at least someone who is starting to have compassion for Tess other than Liz. I agree though I am not a trusting person. I think this shows the greatness of Liz.

Unless something has been cut off any man will react to the presence of a beautiful naked woman. It is the control of reason or the power of love the man has for another that keeps the interest from going any further. HaHAHA see the story i told to Begonia at the top.

Chapter 14

Isabel took Tess shopping. Only Isabel could do this with so much finesse. First she treated Tess to a total make over. Naturally, Tess had a kind of dishwater blonde hair. She hadn’t properly taken care of it for years. The hair dressers bleached it and carefully treated it. They had to trim it a lot shorter than Tess usually worn it. Then, Isabel took her for a body soak, manicure and pedicure. Isabel had been thinking a lot about clothes. Tess needed slacks and dresses that she could wear at work. José hadn’t put her in a uniform yet. Isabel also bought Tess two dresses that she could wear if she went out sometime. The football players hadn’t been willing enough to brave Jim Valenti’s wrath to return, but there were many customers who mildly flirted with Tess as she greeted them.

Again, Michael was worried. “What if she goes out with some schmoo and gets serious with him? Then, we have two people to beware of.”

Isabel turned to him, “Michael, Tess is still young. You can’t expect her to join a convent and not associate with people! We just have to be aware of who they are.”

The new Tess did attract a lot of attention. José mentioned that a lot of businessmen had started to come in who had not come before. Tess always turned down any approaches. She did show interest in the fact that some of the men noticed her.

Liz suggested one day, “Tess might be afraid of any relationships. She still doesn’t know how the ones in her past went wrong. Maybe, we need to talk to her and figure out some way to explain what she did without covering the alien angle.”

For a time, nothing came of this suggestion. She did have one invitation that she accepted. He was a local business man, divorced and, according to Jim, of fairly nice character. He asked her out to dinner and a movie. Tess put him off for a time. She went to Max and said, “What should I do? He knows nothing about me being in therapy. Am I ready to form a relationship.”

This was hard for Max. He hadn’t had time for talks like this with his daughter. She had just run off and gotten trouble without him having a chance to say anything. What was he supposed to say to his ex wife? “I think it is good for you to go out. I do, also, think you should explain that you are still getting over a terrible trauma and that you want to go slow. I suggest you talk to the therapist next time you visit her.”

Liz, again, drove Tess to the Therapist. It had been talked about getting Tess driving lessons and that was something that would have to be decided on soon. In most of the southwest, without driving a person was imprisoned. Public transportation was just not that well developed. The session lasted a little longer than usual. On the way home, Tess asked Liz to come into the Crashdown for a few minutes. “Liz, the therapist thinks I might be ready for some social mingling as she put it. I tried to talk to Max. He didn’t seem to know what to say. Liz, I know you feel that you have every right to hate me for my past, but I have to look on you as a friend, one of the few I have. I am just scared. Will I hurt others as I have hurt you and Max?”

Tess, I don’t hate the person standing in front of me. I do hate the person who destroyed my life so much in the past. I do not think she exists any more,” Liz said and then she took a deep breath. “Tess, I think we might become friends in the present. I think that if you want to go out, you should. I do not think you have to ask any of our permissions, but I think you should talk with at least someone, maybe Jim, about the person you are planning to see. It is not to control you, but there might be some of those who knew you a long time ago and they might think you are still the same woman as they remember. Jim at least can tell you if the person is dangerous or not. Tess we all have to be careful and I think you must be careful doubly so.”

When Liz left she thought over what she had said. Liz was not one to hold a grudge, especially a grudge against someone that no longer existed. She really did want the best for Tess. First, as Liz would want good things for anyone and, maybe, she wanted something for a person who she was forming some sort of bond with.

When Tess went out on her date, he was an enjoyable person. They had dinner and then took in a movie. On the way home, he suggested he come up to her rooms. Tess looked down, “I am still getting over a life shattering trauma that nearly killed me. I am sorry, but I am just not ready for sex. I want to form a strong relationship, but right now, I can’t handle emotion very well.”

Her date frowned, but he didn’t push it any further. Tess noticed he also quit coming into the Crashdown.

Her next social encounter was with a man who asked her to dinner. She accepted, but she also called Jim. He informed her the man was married with two children. Tess went to dinner with her suitor. He was pleasant, but when dinner was over, he became insistent that she return to his hotel with him. Tess looked at him, “Aren’t you married? Don’t you have children?”

He just smiled. “Tess, I just want your company for the night I am not proposing a long term relationship. I was told that you were a pretty hot dish a few years ago. I don’t see any ring or other thing chaining you, so I just wanted to see if you were as good as they said.”

Tess excused her self to go to the lady’s room. As soon as she was in the lobby of the restaurant, Tess called a cab. She had it take her to Max’s house. It was early enough that Max and Liz were still up. Tess came in and sat down. “I have had two dates. The first has not been back since I refused to let him up to my rooms. The second one tonight was putting pressure on me to go to his hotel room. He said I was supposed to be a…, how did he say it? ‘a hot dish.’” Tess was upset because she was not sure of how to handle her life. “Is all a man going to ask me out for is to go to bed with him? Was I that kind of woman in my other life?”

How do you answer something like that? Both Max and Liz were at a loss. It was Liz who, finally, found what to say, “Tess, it doesn’t matter what you were. What matters is what you want to be now. Tess, you do not have to go to bed with a man until you are ready. Tess, it must always be your choice. Don’t worry about what they think. You will, eventually, meet the right guy. Until then, just do not get into situations where you can’t get out of them like you did tonight.”

Max drove Tess home and waited until she was inside the Crashdown and the doors were locked. When he saw the light go on in the window, he was sure she was all right.

Waiting outside the Crashdown brought back memories of the times when he had detoured in his paths to walk by those windows. How many times had he finally climbed those steps of the outside ladder? A pain grew in him as he thought of the trouble he and Liz were having trying to rebuild their relationship.

When Tess had moved into the Crashdown, Liz put most of her things in storage. She brought some of her books and most of the clothes. She had packed away the things she wanted to save of her parents along with the personal possessions of her youth. Liz had gone again to the spare room when she arrived. Max said nothing because he knew that they were going to have to mutually seek out their feelings. He had a minute of fright. What if she never had those feelings again? Max, in talking to Liz, had learned about the sadness she’d had with Charlie. He knew of the bank account she had from Charlie’s death. She only used it for a few personal things. Liz helped take care of Aaron and she helped take care of the house. At night, they would sit with Aaron playing quietly while Max was trying to correct his papers. Liz would mostly read.

It was on a Friday night a week after Tess left. Diane and Philip wanted to take Aaron to an air show Saturday morning. They felt that if he stayed the night, they could get him ready without disturbing Max. Diane knew that Liz and Max were still trying to find themselves and she thought that a few nights without Aaron might help. Max and Liz had been taking turns fixing supper and it was Liz’s turn. Max was late because he went by to see his mom, who had come earlier to pick up Aaron. Liz had no idea what had gone on between them, but by the time Max got home Liz had fixed a meal and lit candles on the table. She was wearing a light weight dress that had a zipper down the front. She had gone through Max’s jazz collection and picked out several cool, slow jazz instrumental CDs. Liz was trying. She searched through her own feelings. What was there she really couldn’t tell. The years with Charlie had dulled Liz’s senses. She remembered the night when Tess blew up the house. That was the first time Liz had felt almost out of control, sort of like the night so long ago when she was prepared to sleep with Max except for Maria’s interference. Long ago, Liz was an innocent, naïve girl. She wanted things she probably didn’t understand. Tonight, Liz was determined to make adult feelings rise. She was going to offer her self to Max and hope he would offer himself to her. She had felt that it was a gesture of her feelings for Liz and, also, her son that Diane had arranged to care for Aaron.

When Max arrived, he, at first, was worried. The house appeared to be dark. When he entered the house, he saw the candles and smelled the dinner, He knew that Liz was trying to meet him more than half way. He kissed her as he passed her on his way to the bedroom. That was something he hadn’t been habitually doing. Max changed his shirt to a light pull over sweater and he washed up for supper.

When Max returned to the dining room, he saw Liz waiting for him. Dishes were on warmers on a sideboard and the table was set formally with Max at the head and Liz just on his right. Liz was a great cook. She had learned from her father. Jeff Parker might have run a fast food restaurant, but he, also, had been an excellent cook. Max and Liz did together something he almost never did. They, holding hands, bowed their heads for a second. Max knew that Liz had religious feelings even if he didn’t, but Max, as he said to her before, “he believed in Liz.”

They talked softly during the meal. Max, all the time, was thinking that this much effort meant that Liz was making all the advancement she could afford. Now, it would be up to him to try to build on what she was offering. Then, their relationship might flourish.

After dinner, Liz had a special coffee in a carafe waiting in the living room. The soft music was permeating the whole atmosphere of the home. Max thought home not house. Even if the building was a rental, tonight for the first time, Max thought of it as a home. They sat facing each other drinking their coffee. Finally, Max put down his cup. He wasn’t a great dancer, but with Liz in his arms, he tried. They just slow shuffled in time to the music.

Thoughts of Max

Max knew that Liz hadn’t gone dancing much with Charlie. In fact, after they were married she had told him they went out very little. She had said Charlie was too wrapped up in his research. Research, again, that was inspired Max knew, by Liz. Liz said that Left to himself, Charlie would have kept repeating the same old tests with the same old results. It was Liz who always thought of new directions. Max knew that somehow he and Liz had to get past 20 years and two ex-spouses. Somehow, they had to go back to the feelings they’d had in high school. Then, Max wondered, “How much of the lusts they both felt in high school had been mutual attraction and how much had been the result of Nasado and Tess?” Max felt them slowly walk upstairs to the bedroom. He knew that they could still hear the slow jazz music. Liz was following Max’s lead and he wasn’t sure of how far he could go. The other night, Max knew that they both had thoughts that at least Liz might be dead before long. Now Max wanted something to remember forever. He was kissing her as he slowly moved the zipper of her dress downward. When it was at the bottom, she shrugged and the dress dropped to the floor. Liz was his. She stood in her underwear. Max was far from an expert on women’s under things, but he was sure these articles of clothing were chosen with a man in mind. The panties were of stretch material with lace holding the pieces together. What they allowed to be seen through the lace, made them very enticing. The bra was also lace with a single fastener in front. With just a twist of his wrist, the two sides fell apart. Now Liz, a mature woman, was totally naked from the waist up in his arms returning the kisses he was giving. The music was almost below the level of hearing, but Max felt he could still hear the beat. Whether it was the beat of the music or the beat of his heart, Max swayed with Liz in his arms. Liz stepped back and helped him get his sweater over his head. Then, she rested her head against his bare chest. They both swayed to some rhythm, but neither knew where it came from. Was it the music from down stairs or somewhere in their heads? They both seem to hear it. Max was now kissing the top of her head. That strawberry smell he remembered from her shampoo was the same as years ago. Liz’s body was mature. The breasts that were so small and tight when Max felt them years ago, had matured. The skinny frame he remembered as a kid was now fully padded. Max felt her fingers working at his belt and, then, the button of his waist band. Once freed, he felt a movement as she pulled down his zipper so erotic that he almost lost it. Max kicked off his shoes as his pants fell to the floor. With footwork, he managed to step out of his trousers. His hands migrated to the waist band of her panties. As they swayed, he worked the panties down until they also dropped to the floor. Liz hadn’t been wearing any hose or socks, so now she was totally naked in his arms. Max wanted to feast his eyes on her form, but as they swayed near the nightstand, she turned off the lights. Liz fell backwards onto the bed and twenty years of lust, hope and true love blossomed up between the two of them. After she took off his shorts and they were finding each other, Max felt that what they had had the other night in desperation was nothing compared to what they were making tonight.

Thoughts of Liz
Liz remembered Max’s bumbling, dancing ability. Well, age hadn’t improved it that much, but they weren’t dancing as much as just adjusting to the music. When Max started to walk up the stairs all the while kissing her, she wondered what would be in store for them. Once in the bedroom Liz, for a time, was content to just sway in the arms of Max. She felt him playing with her zipper. When she felt the dress slipping, she just stepped out of it. Making love to Charlie had had very little eroticism. What Max was doing was so different. As she felt the shield of her dress drop, Liz knew that now she was almost naked in the arms of the man she had loved since he was a boy. She had chosen her panties to be what she thought Max would like. She was hoping that it would be erotic enough to entice him, but not so bold to scare him off. Liz chose the bra the same way. Charlie always fumbled for several minutes with the fasteners in the back. Many times, he, in frustration, would insist that she undo the garment her self. The single fastener in front was so simple that when Max touched it, it just fell apart. This was the point Liz had dreaded. When she was a schoolgirl, she worried that her body wouldn’t be such that a man, who was still a boy, would loose himself looking at it. Now, she was filled out and she was worried that mature age would rob her of something that would stir Max. She saw that she shouldn’t have been so concerned as Max was looking at the whole package. He was seeing the Liz he should have been seeing for the last 20 years. Somewhere between the skinny girl of high school and the woman in his arms, Liz thought he had missed the transition. She wished she could have given him that experience. Growing up should have been something they shared together. Liz yearned to lean against the bare Max. She pulled up on his sweater and, then, she was given the warm pad of his skin. Max wasn’t a hairy-chested man, but what hair he had was so pleasant to Liz’s face. They were still swaying when she felt for his belt. Once the belt was undone, she fussed with the button at the waist. Then, as she slid her hand down his groin against his erection, she felt it alive and pulsing. When max removed her panties, Liz also felt that the 20 year wait was over. She just swayed near the night stand to turn out the light even though she saw that Max was taking all of her body in. She slipped her hands into his waist band and pulled down his shorts. She fell on the bed pulling him after her. It was, but a few minutes, before Max was alive within her body. Liz felt she had, finally, come home. No, you can’t go back to yesterday, but now the tomorrows were promising to be so much more!

chapter 15 june 10

Post by ken_r »

Begonia 9508 I guess the thing I want to get across in many of my stories recently is that love can be just as precious and as intense in later age as in the lust of youth, but it is different. As you say older couples have more to get past. It is harder to trust when you have experience especially if some of this experience is not good. It is sad that people like Max and Liz have lost so many years they should have had. Growing old together and seeing each other mature. As for Tess she needs to be watched just like Michael said. She needs to be protected so she won’t revert to her old habits. Women are capable of many terrible things just are men. It to see if Tess can get enough of a support to not go back to her old self. If that is possible that is.

Natalie36 yes it made me said because I also feel that they lost so much.

Spacecowboy I agree they needed the evening alone. It was good that Max’s mother understood this.

Kj4ever I am glad you like it.

Martine You and Eve are doing what a writer most likes, and if that writer is a former teacher it is even more important. You are looking at the characters and probing to see what they are made of. You and the several others are taking my characters much further and giving them more life than I ever did. This is good. To inspire long feedbacks takes me back to my old class room. You show that you think my characters are worth taking their intentions beyond the story. Thank you.

Extingman I am glad you picked up on that. It will remain to see what the powers do to Tess. Liz developing powers? I studied that in one story. I will Return For You, My Love I do not intend to use this in this story. I find in most of my dreamer stories I am fascinated with the intelligence and wisdom I see in the character of Liz. I always pattern her after some of my former pupils in school.

Flamehair. Yes the most prevalent thing in all the Lizs I create is the strength they have or that they develop. I truly believe it takes strong and intelligent women to raise strong and intelligent children. I am trying to bring the lives of Max and Liz back together.

Chapter 15

The next day, with Aaron still at his great-grandma’s, Max and Liz moved her things into his room. They would have to go slowly, but at least they had tried and they were together. The wonderful thing was that both of them had gotten so much more last night than either had gotten in their previous marriages. When Diane brought Aaron back that afternoon, Liz kissed her on the cheek and whispered thank you for all the help. The relationship was now strong enough that Liz began to think of what she would do next year. She planned to go to the different local educational institutions and apply for a job.

As Max and Liz became content in their situation, Tess was becoming frustrated with hers. A man had come in the other day. This wasn’t the first time he had stopped by. He seemed a little shy. As he was paying his bill, he looked at Tess and asked, “Would you like to go out to dinner some night?”

Tess thought that he seemed so shy that he would probably be safe. She did call Jim and, as far as he could tell, this man was okay. He was a relative newcomer, but every one that knew him spoke highly of him. Sam picked up Tess after she finished her afternoon shift. She was sitting in a booth waiting for him. Every thing seemed nice. They went to dinner and then to an early movie. When they were out of the theatre, Sam walked with her to his car. He asked if she was ready to go home. Tess couldn’t help it. She smiled at him and asked what he had in mind. He shrugged and suggested they could go to his apartment if she would like. Tess had been avoiding the issue of sex, but she knew that she would face it eventually and Sam seemed so nice. Tess knew about sex, of course, but she couldn’t remember any experiences. If she was going to experience this, she wanted it to be with someone who was nice and she liked. Max had moved on and he was becoming comfortable with Liz so why shouldn’t she, Tess also experience the same? They went to his apartment. Sam poured himself a whisky and asked Tess is she wanted something to drink. She said, “No thanks.” They sat for a time before Sam put his arm around her and he started kissing her. Tess found this pleasant. She kissed back and soon she had her arms around Sam as well. Everything was going fine until Sam poured himself another whisky and another. Then he started getting a little rough. He pulled Tess’s blouse off and was kissing her hot and rough kisses. When she tried to pull away, he grabbed her. The alcohol was doing something to him. Tess pulled away harder and stood up. She wanted to make love, not be mauled by an obvious drunk. Sam yanked her arm as he pulled her to him. Then he threw her onto his bed.
Something happened. There was a blast of light and Sam found himself thrown against the wall. Tess gathered up her clothes and quickly dressed as best she could and left. In the Lobby, she called a cab. There was no one to see her and she hurried out as soon as the cab arrived. She gave the address of Max instead of the Crashdown.

The neighbors of Sam called the police. When they arrived, they found a drunken Sam who complained of pain in his back. The room had a funny smell and the walls all looked like a quick flame has just scorched them. Sam remembered nothing and his neighbors had seen nothing. Jim, when he heard about the situation, made plans to meet with the aliens.

Tess was knocking on Max’s door. He and Liz had just gone to bed, but they put on their robes. Tess sat down and told the story. “Max, he was slapping me and grabbing me. Suddenly there was a light and he was thrown against the wall. I do not know what I did, but I am sure I caused it.”

Max and Liz looked at each other. They both had the same thought. When she thought she was threatened, Tess still had her powers. Liz suggested that Tess spend the night with them. There were still a few of her clothes there. After she went to bed, Max and Liz sat in the living room talking. “Do you think this is the old Tess returning?” Max asked.

“The powers seemed limited only to defense. Tess was being hurt and when she became afraid, something happened,” Liz pointed out.

Max shook his head, “I think we need to have a meeting. I hope this is only an abnormality and not something reoccurring.”

The next morning, Jim called and it was decided that they would meet that night. He also said that Kyle would be home sometime that week.

That night at the meeting, Jim started, “The officers said that Sam was very drunk. They think he did something to cause a quick fire, which just as quickly went out. What we have is another unknown situation.”

Michael was still shaking his head. It was Liz who brought sanity to the discussion. “What if just enough of Tess’s powers remained to protect her? She has done nothing to make any of us afraid of her. She has had three very bad experiences in dating. I talked to her. She was considering staying with Sam, but he started drinking. Then, he became abusive. I think if she hadn’t done that, we might have had a sad tale to tell about Tess.”

Toward the end of the week, Jim was engrossed in paper work. He heard a knocking on his door jam and looked up. He jumped up and threw his arms around his son. Kyle still had that shit-eating grin and a devil may care attitude. Jim hadn’t seen him for a couple of years. Kyle had completed high school and gone on to play ball at a junior college. He wasn’t big enough to make it in the major colleges, but the ball playing did get him through two years of college. By that time, Kyle had found a job and continued in college part time. He, finally, had finished a degree in business. He had worked for a few years at different places, but now, he was between jobs. This looked to him like a good time to come visit his father. Kyle also wanted to work on convincing Jim to think about retirement.

Kyle had had a few flings at love. One was almost serious, but had ended a few years ago when she got sick and died. After that, didn’t seem to want to have any serious relationships. Jim called the front desk and informed them he would be with his son at the Crashdown. Kyle and his dad had a lot to catch up on. Kyle knew about the alien invasion, but he had avoided it as much as possible. He had gone with Liz Parker for a time before she met Max and Max had saved her after being shot. Kyle, himself, had been shot by his father when they were escaping from the FBI. It was Max who fixed him up. Kyle had been as mystified as the rest when Liz took off. That was one of the stories Jim had told him as they drove over to the Crashdown. Kyle had made a pass or two at Tess, but later her being married to Max labeled her for him as hands off. He wasn’t like Pauley and some of the others who took advantage of Tess as the unhappy wife of someone, even though Kyle never called Max a friend. That Tess was responsible for so much amazed him, as well as when his father told him they were going to see Tess and she remembered nothing.

Tess was glad to see Jim. She also smiled at the handsome man with him. Jim introduced Kyle to her. She raised her eyebrows when Kyle said he remembered her from high school. Kyle and Jim took a booth as far away from other customers as possible. “You mean she remembers nothing about what she was like in school?” Kyle mused. He just couldn’t believe it. Kyle, even though he had avoided serious romance since his girl friend died, still had a good eye for beauty.

Kyle and Jim talked for several hours. Tess came by to freshen their coffee, but she only smiled.

Kyle went home with Jim and they talked far into the night. Kyle was left to his own devices when Jim left for work the next morning. He didn’t know why, but toward late morning still before the lunch crowd, he found himself in the Crashdown.

When Tess came over to him she brought him coffee and to his surprise, she sat down. Tess obviously wanted to talk. Kyle didn’t seem to draw away from her neither did he leer at her. “Were we friends in high school?” she asked.

I do not know if we were friends or not. We did go out a couple of times.” He replied.

Tess hung her head, “Was that after I was married? Pauley came by one day and he said I was always ready for a good time and I would always ditch that looser Evans. Was that true?” Tess was almost pleading to know.

“Tess, I don’t know what you did after you and Max got married. Pauley is an ass and I heard my dad ran him off!” Kyle was watching Tess closely as he talked.

Tess made a face. She was glad that at least if she cheated on Max with Kyle, that he didn’t tell her or try to make something of it.

There was no one in the Crashdown so they talked for several minutes. Kyle, was mainly telling Tess about his life, where he had been and, yes, he told about the death of his girl. That was still fresh in his mind. When the noon crowd started to come in, Kyle paid his bill and left.

That night, Kyle was in a western bar where several people his age had always hung out. He had met several of his old high school buddies and they were telling tall tales and lies. He felt a familiar tap on his shoulder and he stood up. Pauley and Kyle had been friends when they were in school. To ward the end of their senior year, they drifted apart. One of the reasons was that Pauley and several others were banging Tess. They were saying she was married to that looser Evans and, if something happened, he would have to take care of it. That hadn’t sat well with Kyle then, and it didn’t sit well with him now. Pauley sat down with the crowd. Kyle told stories as well as any, but for many reasons, he didn’t share the one about the death of his girlfriend. Pauley was clearly drunk. The conversation came around to high school and their senior year. Pauley mentioned Tess. One of the other men at the table took up the tale. Kyle kept silent. The two men were bragging about how they knew Tess and what they had done. Then, Pauley turned to Kyle. You know, she is back in town. She even was back living with her ex-husband. That dog! He also had that other “Ho” living with him at the same time, what was her name? Kyle you went with her a…Liz Parker or something like that. That dog was banging them both. How can a looser like him get that lucky? Kyle knew better than to get in a bar fight, especially where his father was the sheriff. He got up and started to leave. Pauley just kept on, “Guys, I know a way to get in her room. I bet if we get her away from the sheriff and those other friends, she will be just like last time. If she isn’t there, maybe, the slut, Parker, will be.”

That was just too much. Kyle reached over and slammed Pauley’s head against the table. Pauley was so far out of it that he just went to sleep. Several of the others looked up at Kyle. “Look guys, if a girl doesn’t want you, I say look elsewhere. No matter what her past is, a woman has the right to say no. As far as Liz Parker goes, she is and always was a lady. In my presence all women are ladies. If we have to prove who is toughest, like horny high schoolers, then we can have at it. But, my dad won’t stand for a woman to be hurt and neither will I. When Pauley wakes up, tell him he fell over his tongue.” Kyle left.

Kyle stopped at an all night newspaper dispenser. He paid his quarter and withdrew a paper. With this folded under his arm, he proceeded to the Crashdown.

It was two hours before the Crashdown closed. Tess looked up as she saw Kyle walk in the door. He made motions for coffee only and sat down in a corner. Tess delivered coffee and he looked up and smiled at her. Then, he tended his paper for the rest of the evening. When the Crashdown closed, Kyle left a couple dollars and walked out. He had said little to anyone. He did tell his father later, what had happened at the bar earlier.

Aaron was very happy that Liz and his grandfather were together now all the time. He alternated between staying with his great-grandmother and Liz. For him, it was the best of all worlds. He also liked the cooking on alternate nights when it was Liz’s turn to fix meals. Liz had gotten two interviews. One with the state extension college that was in Roswell and another with a company that was starting up in the town and was looking for top-notch people to fill its ranks. They hadn’t yet told her what they were intending, but it was nice to have two choices to hope for.

At home, Liz was receiving what she felt she had been missing for the last 20 years. It was far from just sex. When Max held her in his arms, she felt he was making promises for the world. When she held Aaron in her arms, she felt she, at last, had a family to love. Max hadn’t said anything yet, but they had talked a little about marriage. At night when they made love, Max was trying to capture the thoughts he had when they were in high school. When he told her of this, she repeated her thoughts from before, “You can’t go back to yesterday, but tomorrow can be so much better.”

Some times, they would go out in their tiny back yard and, wrapped up in a blanket with Aaron between, them they would take turns telling him stories about the stars. They hadn’t told him about the aliens, yet, but Liz had a suspicion that he knew he was different from other children. Michael and Isabel had started noticing that their children were starting to show signs of unusual abilities. Michael was starting to make plans to begin a training program soon.

When Jim heard Kyle was spending time at the Crashdown, he was concerned. “Kyle, Tess is dangerous. Be careful around her. She also has been hurt so be careful, because she doesn’t deserve to be hurt. She is trying so hard.”

Kyle had no intention of hurting Tess. He had held several conversations with her and he was finding she was a very interesting person, despite the loss of most of her memory. Kyle had no idea of how long he intended to remain in Roswell. He had even looked into various jobs. The new company that Liz had interviewed at, had discussed with him what they offered. Kyle would come into the Crashdown every morning and read his paper until Tess would sit and talk with him a few minutes. Sometimes, he would come in late and sit until closing time.

One night when Kyle had been sitting reading, Tess came up to him. “The Evans, the Whitmans and the Guerins are having a barbeque this Sunday afternoon. I hate being the only one there without an escort. Would you like to take me?” Tess said as she sat down with him for a minute.

Kyle looked up and smiled, “Yes, I would like to see all of them again. I haven’t had time to look them all up. I would enjoy escorting you to the barbeque

Everyone, I patterned the thoughts on Tess from an article that I read on mental illness. It seems she was cured but everyone will sit around looking for the slightest sign that the illness will reoccur. It is a difficult situation for all concerned. The person feels that everyone is just looking for the slightest indication that they are going to fall back into their previous condition.

Flamehair I knew a man once that was the nicest person until he had that one drink. It took the slightest amount of alcohol to bring out the beast. I always thought that intellectually and socially Kyle fit best with Tess.

I want to give the hope that love can be found at a later life and that pains of youth can be put aside.

Carole and I are watching your countdown. About 41 days if I am correct.

Begonia 9508 see the top paragraph. I also show that Aaron may have more hope for his grandmother that is real. You are right her obsession with Max caused her to not see Kyle who was right in front of her.

I am just happy that my characters generate the passion for people to comment and speculate on their actions.

Katydid I am just glad you enjoy the story.

Martine see my comments on mental illness at the top of the post. Jim is concerned about Kyle also but somewhere he stated that Kyle was a smart and able man. He had had some bad problems with the death of his former girl friend. It is up to him to be strong enough to take care of Tess if that is his choice. I tried to keep his carefree attitude but to also show a maturity in how he treated Tess during love making and how he answered his father.

Chapter 16

That Sunday, the several families were at the Guerin’s home. The smoker and charcoal grill were set up. Several chickens were cut up and hamburgers were on plates along with several steaks. Liz had brought two pecan pies. She had swatted more than one hand that tried to sample one of them before dinner. Kyle and Tess arrived last. The aliens were surprised to see Kyle. They had all heard that Kyle was in town, but he had made it clear that he wanted little to do with them when he was in high school. Tess had asked José to make a chicken enchilada and she placed it on the table. Liz was delighted to see Kyle. She remembered some of the feelings she had for him before she was healed, by Max. She had been afraid when she saw Kyle with Tess in high school, but now, she thought that they made a good couple. Maria and Kyle were almost brother and sister since her mom was married to his dad until her death a few years ago. Kyle was pleased at the welcome he received from them. They all argued over steaks being rare to medium done. Then, they argued over when the chicken was sufficiently cooked. No one argued over José’s enchilada or over Liz’s pies, except to say they didn’t get enough helpings. The children romped and Kyle was amazed at how much they had grown. He had seen them briefly when he had sailed through town after seeing his father for only for a few minutes.

When the barbeque was over Kyle, and Tess drove home. Tess didn’t know what to expect from Kyle, after all he was one of the football players and she still didn’t know if they had had an affair. Kyle just kissed her hand at he door and he left.

Inside, Tess sat for a while thinking. What was Kyle to her? She had worried what she would say if he, like all of her other dates, wanted to come in and go to bed with her. She just didn’t know.

The next week found Kyle at the Crashdown several times. He would talk to Tess when she had time off, and other times, he would be just reading the paper. Tess did not know what to make of him.

One day, Kyle called Tess over to his table. “I have a dinner meeting with some business men and their wives. If I am alone, I will be a target for flirting. I can’t chance angering one of these men if it looks like I am enjoying the attention or of angering their wives if it looks like I am ignoring them. If I introduce you as my companion for the evening, they will leave me alone and all you will be stuck with is ‘hen talk’ until we are through. Go with me and I will make it up to you later by taking you to a nice place for dinner and dancing.”

Tess thought this sounded like the promise of two dates. Oh well, she had done worse and she was beginning to like talking to Kyle.

That evening, Kyle had held her close and Tess clung to him even closer as they approached the table. She noticed several of the women frown briefly when they saw her. Kyle, as he said, had spent most of his time talking with the men. Tess listened and carefully responded to the conversation of the women. It was pleasant about household things, fashions and children. They asked if she had any children and she replied, “Yes by a former marriage, but the little girl was dead.” They respected her privacy on that issue. Tess, at the end of the evening, was satisfied that she had held her end of everything very well.

After leaving, Kyle explained. He was seeking a job with this company that was thinking of moving to Roswell. He had been allowed to converse without any “come-ons” from the wives. He explained that frequently the wives enjoyed playing with a person who their husbands were interviewing. Many times, they would arrange a liaison that would be a disaster later when it would be discovered. He, then, explained they were just bored, rich women looking for excitement.

Then, Kyle turned to Tess, “If I remember right, the Crashdown usually closes early on Saturday night. How about I pick you up and we go to dinner. Then, there is a dancing club that we can visit afterward. It should make up for helping me this evening.”

Tess smiled, “Then, it is a date. Of course, I will see you from time to time when you stop by the Crashdown.”

Summer was coming up and Max had an important item on his mind. He intended to propose to Liz. He had bought a ring, it was an emerald cut diamond and he was waiting for the right time to give it to her. Max and Liz had been sleeping together since shortly after Tess left. It wasn’t as if they needed time to get to know each other. Liz was looking at jobs in the area, so she intended to stay. Max had wanted to marry her 20 years ago when they were still too young to take that responsibility. He wanted to marry her even more now. His mother had decided to take Aaron that Saturday night and Max told Liz that they should go dancing. It was all arranged.

That Saturday night, Kyle showed up at the Crashdown for Tess. She was wearing one of the dresses Isabel had bought for her. They went to dinner. Kyle had picked an Italian place where they had candles in wine bottles. They had a good meal and sat talking for sometime. Kyle had them serve a wine with the meal. Neither he nor Tess drank very much.

After the meal, they slowly drove out to the dance club at the edge of town. They had a small jazz band which alternated with a western band. So, if you didn’t like the music, just wait and it would be different. As they were walking in the club, Kyle heard his name being called. He squinted in the dim light and he saw Max and Liz waving at them. They went over to sit with them. Max was drinking ginger ale as usual. Liz was drinking a white wine. Kyle well remembered the time he got Max drunk on a inordinately small amount of liquor. Kyle had a beer and Tess had a white wine also. They chatted, and then, they danced. Kyle explained how he owed Tess for helping him so much. Max explained it was a special night for him also. Then he turned to Liz. She could not see the small box he had hidden in his hand. “Elizabeth would you consent to be my wife?” he asked. He then, with the manipulation of his fingers, brought forth the box. She opened it and smiled. She extended to box back to Max and held out her hand. He placed the ring on her finger. One of the waitresses saw what was happening and the band immediately struck up a love song “Be with me forever.”

Be with me, my darling
Be with me in tears.
Be with me forever
Be with me in fears.

Be with me in laughter
Be with me in love.
Be with me forever
Be my turtle dove.

Be for me my friend
Be for me my wife.
Be for me forever
Be for me for life.

Max and Liz went off to dance. Kyle looked at Tess, “That must have been awkward, to be present when your ex-husband asks another woman to be his wife?”

Tess smiled, “No, I have been expecting that. Max and Liz have both cared for me since I lost my memory. I do not think Max and I ever loved each other. They won’t tell me why we got married, but I am happy for them now.”

Kyle took her in his arms and held her close as they waltzed across the floor. Tess clung to him tightly, also. She wondered why, but she felt better in his arms than she had felt with anyone else. Both couples sat, talked and danced until late. Kyle, finally, stood up. “Max, Liz I hope this is the start of something that will be good for both of you.” He and Tess left. Again, they drove home slowly. Kyle did feel a twinge of jealousy because he once had gone with Liz. Well, that was long over and he had other lamps to tend and wicks to trim now. When they got to the Crashdown, Kyle held Tess in his arms for several minutes. It was hard for Tess, but she got it out. “Kyle, would you like to come up?”

They entered the restaurant and climbed the stairs. Inside the living quarters, Kyle sat down. Tess was gone for several minutes. Finally, when she came back, Kyle stood up. He carefully took her in his arms. He sat back down on the couch holding her tenderly. They kissed like teenagers. They caressed and petted as his lips ran down her neck. His strong arms held her close and, for a minute, she felt panic. The minute was swiftly over because her fear of being hurt passed. In its place, a peace settled in her soul. For the first time since she had lost her memory, Tess felt loved. She remembered when she appeared to Max in the nightgown. She was trying to elicit the very feeling she was getting from Kyle at this moment. As Tess was kissing Kyle, she noticed something strange. He didn’t close his eyes. She drew back, “Do you always kiss with your eyes open?”

He smiled, “Someone very dear to me once said to keep one’s eyes open is to enjoy the whole experience.”

Kyle ran his hands all over her body. These feelings were new because she couldn’t remember anything from before her trauma. He touched places that quickly sent her into orbit. She stood and they went into the master bedroom. It was the bedroom Liz’s folks had when they were alive. Tess left the light on in the living room. It gave just enough illumination for Tess and Kyle to see each other. Kyle laid her back on the bed. He slowly undressed her. First starting with her dress ,then with her hose. He carefully detached her bra and, finally, he removed her panties. He didn’t cast the clothes aside as one might expect, but rather, folded them and sat them on a nearby chair. Then with her watching him, he slowly began to undress himself. As said, there was just enough light to make every thing very erotic. Kyle slowly took off his shirt. He had left his jacked in the living room. He put the shirt and tie on another chair. Facing Tess, he carefully loosened his belt and slowly unzipped his pants letting them fall. He did everything so slowly that Tess could hardly contain her self. All the while watching for her reaction, he dropped his shorts freeing his erection. Then he crawled onto the bed and leaning across her body, he began to again kiss her. She could, all the time feel his arousal. He played with her breasts and stroked her throat. Nothing in her memory had held anything like this for Tess. Truthfully, she felt she had never had any experience like this even before she lost her memory. Nasado had prepared her to just get pregnant, not to endure such ecstasy. When Kyle entered her, she melted in pleasure that she didn’t know existed.

Kyle stayed the night. They woke up by Tess’s alarm. She had to get ready for her shift. Kyle left and went back home. When he got there, Jim was having coffee and getting ready to go to work. He raised his eyebrows and without thinking how he no longer had the right to ask, he said, “Where did you spend the night last night?”

Kyle just looked at him, “I spent it with Tess.”

“She is dangerous, you know,” Jim repeated what he had said before.

“So you say, but we had a very good time last night. Probably it was the first date I have enjoyed since Mariah’s death. Tess has no memory of what happened to her,” Kyle stated.

“You know a man tried to rape her and she almost killed him.” Jim informed.

Kyle laughed, “Since when are you touchy about a perpetrator getting his come-up-ance? Sounds like she protected herself. Does she have any idea of what she did?”

Jim shrugged, “No, she just knows she was attacked and she got away.”

“Well then I think she should be treated like any other person who might fly off the handle. Just understand her and be careful.” Kyle mused.

Jim shrugged, Kyle was way over 18 and he was a pretty savy man. Jim would just be there to watch and lend support if Kyle needed it.

Liz was so happy. Marrying Max and, maybe, having his children. This was how her life was supposed to play out. She also loved Aaron. Every one saw her ring. She and Max had talked about a summer wedding. There were some who gossiped about how Max still seemed to have an interest in Tess, but her close friends felt that this was the way life was meant to be. Max was happy for the first time in 20 years. He and Liz had talked about her marriage to Charlie. He understood how she had tried to move on and nothing ever worked out. Max was convinced that this was fate telling them they belonged together. Liz felt that “fate” was just too Tess like. Tess had told Max about her night with Kyle and she was pleased that Max thought this was good. They all knew Kyle. Kyle had always proved to be a good man, even though in school he didn’t have much to do with the aliens.

Tess had searched in her limited memory for something about sex and love. Her mind was more blank in this topic than normal. She did know that Kyle made her feel very good about herself. When he came in the next morning Tess went to his table. Kyle reached up and bent Tess’s face down for a kiss. She thought this was a very nice thing and she would like to experience it every morning.

Maria was now satisfied that their lives would go back to the way she and Alex had talked about years ago. They even thought that Tess and Kyle could be included. Kyle was becoming a regular fixture where Tess was concerned. They went dancing and to sports events. Many nights he stayed at the Crashdown. His old friends soon got the word that Tess was his girl and he would book no one hurting her. Her past was buried as far as he was concerned.

Flamehair I have never been so pleased with a stories ending as I am with this one. Yes there will still be obstacles to overcome. But power to do this comes from unexpected places. Sorry about not figuring the date of the greatest event but you know mathematicians we can see multiple universes but balancing a check book is beyond us. Figuring baby dates is even harder.

Begonia9508 I do to. Kyle brings his strength to Tess and she needs that. We always hope second marriages succeed even though odds are against it. I hope you along with Flamehair will find some pleasure in the fact that I am very happy with the ending of this story.

Chapter 17

Deep down in Mexico in a small village, a strange man lived. Most of the people in this village, and others nearby, were terribly afraid of him. The Federales had heard of him and they sent one of their agents to investigate him. The agent came back, but he never was right in his head afterwards. He kept mumbling about a man of no face and a man of many faces. He never could explain. The Mexican authorities had to retire him. The drug cartels tried to find out who he was, but they just lost people trying to get to him. The villagers always brought him favors snd warned him when anyone was inquiring about him. They were convinced that he was a Brujo, or Mexican witch. He had been in this town for about 20 years. One day he came out of his home and looked at the sky. He had the appearance of a man of about 35 years old. He walked to the edge of the village and waited until a truck came by. The truck stopped and the man got in. The driver didn’t look at him. He just kept looking ahead. When the truck arrived at a larger village, the truck stopped, the man got out and the truck went on its way. The driver never realized that he had had a passenger. The man waited beside the road. Soon another truck stopped and he got in. He kept doing this until he finally reached Chihuahua City. The man walked into a hotel room. Then there was a flash of light and he reappeared as a slightly balding man wearing a blue suit. He took a taxi to the airport where he booked a ticket to Albuquerque. As he left the ticket desk, the clerk said, “Have a good trip Señor Harding.”

It had been some time since Nasado had worn the body of Ed Harding. For so many years, he had been the simple Brujo living in the small town. There, he had taken on the body of a Mexican peasant. He maintained him self by keeping the local villagers both in fear and in debt to him. Now, he felt that there had been changes somewhere north. He was sure his ward had finally found a way to return. She was such a simple bitch. She had not been able to follow directions and accomplish anything he had set before her. She never did control that boy king. Nasado felt that she should have screwed him silly. Being the half human that Max was he should have been an easy mark. Nasado showed her how to get rid of that foolish human the king had been attached to. Nasado didn’t let his mind dwell on how he’d the human girl once in his hands. but she escaped, allowing the king to be captured by the enemy. He only dwelt on the mistakes of the alien Tess. She couldn’t even force her body to produce a male of enough Antarian heritage to entice the emissary to let both of them return. Nasado left when he saw her ineptness. He had almost decided that he would be trapped on Earth. Since, unless someone disintegrated his molecules, he was immortal, Nasado had settled down for a long life on this rock. The feeling of a new power rising had been growing for almost four years. Nasado was sure that the first born of Tess wasn’t what he was feeling, so she must have had a second brat with the King. Because Nasado had been a slave manufactured to be a servant for the king, he had signals in his body to tell him the where abouts of the aliens. He had been aware when Tess left the other three. That was one reason he had remained hidden for so many years. Tess would have only left the king if it had become impossible to produce another child. Now, he had been aware that Tess was close to the three, but he was getting a signal that he didn’t recognize. That must be a product of Tess and it felt like it must be an heir. He had felt a haze that meant there must be more bastard aliens born from the liaisons of the other aliens with humans. They weren’t distinct, so they couldn’t be very strong.

Nasado, or now Ed Harding, arrived at the Albuquerque airport. He proceeded to the Hertz rental desk and rented a small Toyota sedan. It was about a four hour drive to Roswell. Once there, he took out a room at the Holiday Inn. He did all of this with money he made by manipulation. He was a little better at this than the half alien clones. First thing was to find his ward, Tess. Nasado had found that as a Mexican farm worker he could travel around almost as if he was invisible. He was wearing the beat up hat and the coarsely woven shirt of a bracero, or migrant worker. He couldn’t mind warp like Tess, but he had controlled her for most of her young life. He had the ability to sense her presence from a great distance. Witness the fact that he knew she was back in Roswell from all the way down in Mexico.

Nasado, the form worker, drove his car around town. He finally zeroed in on the restaurant that had held the human interest of the king. He went in and ordered coffee. There she was working at the cash register. Nasado sent out strong signals, but to his dismay, she just kept at her work. He sent out a controlling thought, but she still didn’t seem to pay him much attention. A man came in carrying a newspaper under his arm. Nasado recognized him as one of the humans who were around the aliens, but not that close to any of them. Kyle kissed Tess as he entered. Then he took up a booth and proceeded to read his paper. The waitress served him a coffee without even taking an order. It was a few minutes until Tess sat down beside Kyle. Nasado’s mind went into overdrive. Here his ward was, now, becoming involved with a human. Nasado paid his bill and left. He would wait until tonight.

The Crashdown closed. Nasado waited. Then, he went up to the living quarters. He was fustrated that Tess wasn’t there. There was plenty of evidence that this was where she stayed. Like a hound dog Nasado sensed or smelled her scent all over the upper quarters. He would wait in the room that felt the strongest.

As soon as the restaurant closed, Tess went into the restroom and changed. She wanted to waste no time getting out to meet Kyle. He was the most fulfilling thing in her life at the moment. She hurried to his car that was waiting at the curb in front of the establishment. Kyle leaned over and passionately kissed her. She snuggled up to him as he drove off. First, they went to a dinner that she didn’t have to serve and, then, to a stage show at a club which would end with dancing. Tess found that the feeling of being with Kyle and also dancing with him caused her inner feelings to run wild. It was the anticipation of what would end the night that affected her breathing and raised her temperature. Kyle had been a masterful lover to her. He had carried to her no obligations, but only gifts of his love. By the time the clock reached midnight, Tess was a ball of pure emotions. When Kyle kissed her in the car, she was pressing her whole body against him. When he placed his arms around her, she took his hands and pressed them against her taut breasts. Her breathing was so strained that she could barely talk. Kyle drove straight to the Crashdown.

Nasado heard the door open. He also, heard voices of the two people entering. Nasado went into a camouflaged mode and he seemed to blend into the wall. Kyle and Tess entered stumbling because they each were trying to remove both their own clothes and those of their partner. Finally naked, they fell into bed. Tess brought out the best in Kyle. They made love over and over until he could no longer get it up. Then, Tess sat on top of him and her fingers were magical as she brought life back to his body. When both of them thought that neither had any more strength, Kyle kissed her and he sat up. “I promised my dad that I would go with him to see some property he is thinking about buying. I will see you before noon,” Kyle whispered in her ear.

Tess made a pretend pout as he got dressed but then she kissed his bare back as he was putting on his shirt. They laughed as, finally, she, naked, stood up and kissed her, now, dressed lover.

This was almost more than Nasado could take. His ward was rutting like a dog with a human who had no value what so ever. As soon as Kyle left and she fell back into bed, Nasado materialized. He put his hand firmly over her mouth. Her eyes flashed open and fear emanated from them. She struggled until Nasado got a mental hold on her. He, then, released his hand, but he continued to watch her closely. He was probing her mind. He could recognize nothing that he had placed there so many years ago. She didn’t recognize him nor any mental signals he was sending. He released her vocal cords with the warning that he would squeeze her if she tried to scream. Nasado scanned Tess’s brain. He pulled back. He had never see anything like this. Tess’s brain had none of the markers he had placed there years ago. He could restrain her, but before he had been able to control her like a puppet. Nasado put his hand over her eyes and slowly closed them. He concentrated and when she was back asleep, he quickly left.

Tess woke up. She had had a terrible nightmare. She was crying uncontrollably. Then, try as hard as she could she couldn’t remember any of it. She started to call Kyle, but what could he do? The next person she thought of was Max. Liz picked up the phone. She was trying to rouse herself from a dead sleep. She shook her head trying to make sense of what Tess was trying to say. Max woke up a lot quicker when she shook him. He took the phone.

Tess tried to talk between her tears. Max couldn’t make much sense out what she was saying. Max and Liz agreed to go to the Crashdown and bring Tess home.

When they got to the Crashdown, they found Tess dressed and waiting. She was trembling. They took her back to Max’s house. Liz made some hot tea. Tess kept talking about something dark and dangerous, but she couldn’t explain any further. Finally, Liz took her into the guest room and she lay down.

Nasado had found out what he wanted to know. Tess was now useless and she wasn’t directly responsible for any child of power. He still sensed the power and he was going to find it. That would be his ticket home.

It was a day for Aaron to stay with Liz. Tess was still a wreck so Liz took Aaron and Tess to the Crashdown. She planned to stay there, at least for a while. About ten o’clock Kyle walked in. He spied Liz sitting with Aaron in the far corner. Waving at Tess, he proceeded to the booth where Lis was sitting. Tess brought his coffee and he kissed her. For the first time since the dream last night, the kiss made Tess feel better. Kyle kidded with Aaron for a few minutes. Aaron was too serious for Kyle, but Kyle did appreciate how smart Aaron was getting. He talked with Liz about what she saw in her future. “I don’t know, yet, Kyle. Max has asked me to marry him and I probably will. I just have waited so long that I keep waiting for something terrible to happen. I love the little boy and I love Max, but fate is always cruel in what it has in store sometimes.” Liz took a sip of her coffee and then asked, “What are your plans Kyle? What do you see yourself doing with Tess?”

Kyle laughed, “We are becoming important to each other. I still find it surprising that you are giving her so much support. After all, she did ruin most of your life.”

Liz shrugged, “Kyle, that was another person entirely. I hope you appreciate that.”

About that time, Ed Harding entered the restaurant. Liz stiffened. She well knew that he was Nasado. Kyle hadn’t met him before, so he only knew that Liz was frightened and Aaron was concerned. Ed walked over to their booth. “Come with me little one. I will take you to where you belong.” He held out his hand to Aaron.

Aaron just shook his head, “Nasado you are not wanted here. You shouldn’t have bothered Tess last night. She is a good person now,” Aaron replied. Kyle hadn’t been around Aaron that much and he was taken back by the way he made his reply. Liz moved to stand in front of Aaron. In the back of the kitchen, Kyle could hear someone shouting for the police.

Ed Harding walked toward Liz. “Stupid human, you are once again in front of what I want. You should have stayed back in the east with your stupid life. I would have killed you the first time, but we had to get the king out of the white room. Now, you are not even wanted as a pleasant diversion.” He raised his hand and prepared to remove the thorn that had plagued him for over 20 years.

Tess screamed. Kyle had stood up and he placed himself in front of Liz and Aaron. Ed Harding just smiled. He was going to rid himself of several humans. Tess was terrified. She had found her life in the person of Kyle. Liz had been good to her and, even if she had never acknowledged it, Aaron was the son of her daughter. Ed Harding began to glow. He was enjoying this. He hated humans and he really was a psychopathic killer. He released his power and the fireball started toward the two humans. Tess screaming, raised her hands and they glowed a bright red. Her eyes began to bleed as something took over her body. Ed had already released his power blast, but something strange was happening. The power was reversing. Just as it returned to hit him, he was hit from behind by the worst power blast he had ever seen. His atoms just came apart. They didn’t release their energy. The energy was running through his body. In the microseconds he had to think, he realized that Tess still had powers, but they were very dormant. He also realized that Aaron was protecting the two humans. The two forces of power coalesced within his body. Ed Harding just ceased to exist. There was no noise, no heat, no anything. He just vanished as if he never was. Kyle caught Tess as she fell. Her eyes were bleeding and she was crying. Her finger tips were slightly burnt and blistered. Kyle held her shaking body. Aaron came over and placed his hands on her face. He closed his eyes and for several minutes he just stood there. When he removed his hands, Tess was unconscious, but she was now smiling. Kyle himself began to cry. Yes, he knew that men don’t cry, but he was starting to have strong feelings for Tess. He couldn’t loose her like he had Mariah. His tears dropped on her face. He smothered her face with kisses. He could feel the small hands of Liz caressing his neck. Tess’s body made a shake and, then, another one. Her eyes opened and her stare was blank. All she could feel were the kisses and tears of Kyle. Aaron went back to his coloring and Liz sat down. Kyle picked Tess up and, with a searching look at Liz he proceeded up the stairs. It was difficult to open the door with Tess in his arms, but once in the living quarters, he found that Liz and Aaron had followed him. Liz led him to the main bedroom and she turned down the sheets. Kyle put Tess on the bed. He sat beside her. Her eyes were now fluttering as she was trying to regain her thoughts. Liz and Aaron went down to try to explain to the police.

Chapter 18

Liz found the best way to talk to the police was to just say she didn’t know anything. There were several customers and they all had conflicting stories. As far as Liz was concerned, there had been a man that she knew slightly from the past. He was the guardian of Tess. He made some sort of comment about wanting custody of Aaron. Liz and Kyle had refused and he got mad. Tess came around the counter screaming and the man just left. He went poof. Liz had no idea where he was now. Aaron’s grandfather had custody and no one else had a right, unless they went to court, to take him. The policeman asked who Liz was to Aaron. She explained she was a close friend of Mr. Evans and she took care of Aaron sometimes. Tess was Aaron’s grandmother, but she had no custody. And, she wasn’t asking for custody. The policman interviewed Tess, but nothing she said made sense. Later, they reviewed their records and found that Tess had been a suspect to the arson of Mr. Evans home. She was under psychiatric care. Max and Liz were seeing to her adjustment to the outside world. Liz was a half owner in the Crashdown and José was the man who hired her. The officers went over Tess’s other file and found this present case no clearer than the one on arson. There was no body and no person to file a complaint against. There, again, was no case. The sheriff was no help. He knew all of the people involved. This would just be another of those many cases that languished for years and finally just disappeared.

Kyle was worried about Tess. She had hurt herself because she saw the three of them in trouble. He was worried, also, that he would not be able to convince the aliens of this fact. As far as Kyle was concerned, Tess had proved her loyalty by this last act. Kyle sat beside her bed. He remembered the little whore she had been in high school. This woman wasn’t that person. Kyle was not a person to hold a grudge. He, of course, had worried about Liz from stories his father had told him. He knew that Tess had been dangerous. His father insisted he visit the demolished home that had been Max’s. His time with Tess just hadn’t been in that world. It was like a dream world or a movie that when you walked into the light of day, it just no longer existed. Then, Kyle remembered the power that Tess had focused toward Nasado when he had been determined to kill both Kyle and Liz. When Kyle was away at college, he remembered a girl he met who kept poisonous snakes for a hobby. Kyle was creeped out. Being from New Mexico and playing on the desert, his parents had taught him to avoid all snakes. He asked the young lady why wasn’t she afraid of the creatures. She smiled at him. Every man she met asked that question. The key to handling dangerous creatures was to understand them.

That was what Kyle wanted to do. He really wanted to understand Tess. The loss of his girl friend, Mariah, still weighed on him. His brief time of being with Tess had been the first time since his girlfriend’s death that he had been in any kind of a relationship. Kyle looked at Tess’s eyes. He took a damp wash cloth. There was still blood seeping from her eyes. Kyle did not know what she had ruptured in her anger against Nasado. Kyle sponged her face. She appeared feverish. Kyle saw her eyes flutter. He bent to kiss her and as she woke up, she threw her arms around him.

“I thought I was going to loose you. Was that awful man like I was before?” she asked. “I felt so much hate. He was looking at you and the little boy along with Liz. Liz, I am told, was the one hurt the worst by my former self. She has been the strongest person supporting me. She always tells me the truth. I just couldn’t think of the two of you being harmed.” Tess was now in Kyle’s arms. He was kissing away the tears and the remaining threads of blood.

The police were clearly not satisfied. They had contradictory stories, no body and a lady of interest who had been involved in another questionable event. Jim Valenti was no help. His son was going with the lady in question. For the most part, the cooler and older heads just thought that this was another crime or not crime that was best left as it was.

It was a month later. Liz was living with Max in the rent house. She was taking care of Aaron sharing him with Max’s mother. José was doing well in his café. He had been doing most of the work for many years. Now, he was working for himself and, of course, for Liz. They were in the Crashdown one evening. Tess was at the register and the girls were working the tables. The restaurant was fairly crowded. Aaron got up from his chair at the table where he had been sitting with Liz and Max. He went to the cash register and said in that voice which astounded those who did not know him. “Tess I still choose Liz for my grandma, but you are a very good person now, and I hope we will be friends.”

The noisy restaurant had quieted down when some of the customers saw that Aaron was approaching Tess. They all heard him as he talked in a clear voice. Tess bent and hugged Aaron. This was the first time she had showed any feeling toward him. All present saw that tears were streaming down her face.

When Kyle arrived that night to walk Tess up the stairs to her rooms, she was crying. They weren’t tears of sorrow, but rather, tears of joy. Maybe her past life could be at last buried.

Later that summer, Kyle announced to everyone that he was going to marry Tess. His father shrugged and hoped that Kyle wouldn’t get hurt, but then Kyle had already been hurt by the death of his other girl friend. Maybe, this would be a healing for him. Most of Kyle’s former friends were those who were putting it to Tess both in high school and, later, while she was still married to Max. Kyle did not want them in his wedding. Kyle didn’t feel that Max should have a leading part in this marriage. Max giving away his wife or standing up with the man marrying her was just too wrong. Kyle asked Alex to stand up with him. Alex hadn’t been that close of a friend in school, but that was what made him a good choice. He was clearly not one of Tess’s former lovers. Tess said she would walk down the aisle alone since she had no one to give her away. This was a second marriage, after all, so did it make any difference? This was the surprise. Michael announced to all of the aliens and friends, “It is not right that Tess doesn’t get a propper wedding. Aliens ought to care for their own. I would, with her permission, offer her my arm and an escort down the aisle. They all understood that this was Michael’s way of saying he was accepting Tess.

It was about two months later. Max and Liz had been working hard to lay at rest the many things in their life. It was an act of nature that settled things for them. Liz became pregnant. All the time with Charlie could now be forgotten. Liz was to become a parent with the boy, now man who she had always loved. Max asked Michael to be his best man. Even if he and Liz had been married before, Max wanted a lot of the tradition with Liz. He felt that this was the way his life should have run those many years ago.

It was a surprise to everyone when Michael stood up. “I am sorry, Max. You are my best friend but I can’t stand with you. You see, I have already promised to walk your wife to be, down the aisle. If I had walked with her those many years ago, many things would have been different.”

Liz stood and kissed Michael on the cheek. “We all know that you can’t go back to yesterday, but tomorrow for all of us, will be better!”

I have started posting a new story. It is a rewrite of a story which i was never satisfied with. The Castaways is a UC story about 4 people stranded away from civilization. It is not for everyone but if you are courious you might look at it.

it is a few chapters from being finished, but i have writtin another story called just, "Isabel" it will be canon and take place when Isabel turned Jesse down in marriage. It will probably be posted in a few weeks. it will be my first story dedicated to just Isabel.

there is still my vampire story, The Young Vampire which is a light hearted story about a vampire.
