"I've been asking myself the same question for a month now." Dean states.
Liz arches one eyebrow questioningly. "And that is?"
"Why do I keep coming back here?"
"I don't know, Dean," she says. "Could be the atmosphere."
He smirks at her in that 'yeah right' kind of way.
"Or it could be that we both have abandonment issues the size of Texas," she offers.
"That's an excellent theory, Liz," he reponds as he downs the beer she just set in front of him.
"Good," she says. "Because my third suggestion was a long-shot anyway."
His eyebrows quirk in interest. "Oh?"
She leans in close. "I don't think you're that hard-pressed to find a better rack to stare at than mine, Winchster."
Dean actually has the grace to blush at that statement.
If Sammy had been there, he'd be laughing his ass off.
He's still there after the bar closes watching Liz put up the clean glasses as she hums along with the jukebox. It's an older song. The Cranberries, maybe. He's never been good at keeping track of anything that was written after 1980 unless it's by Metallica.
"You remind me of this girl, Carmen," he says out of nowhere.
She looks at him stangely. "Wasn't Carmen your live-in girlfriend in that djinn induced hallucination?"
"I told you about that?" he asks.
"Two months ago, after a bottle of Cuervo Gold," she reminds him. "You also told me where you got most of your scars that night."
"Yeah, well. . . " He shrugs and downs the rest of his beer, not really knowing how to respond to that.
Liz smiles and throws his empty bottle in the trash. "Is this some ass backward attempt at asking me out?"
He furrows his brow. "Maybe? Hell, I don't know."
"You've told me a lot of stuff," she says. "Not all of it good."
"So you'll be able to call me on my shit," he tells her. "It'd be a relief at this point."
"And you're always on the road," she points out. "That's hardly a cornerstone of a stable relationship."
"I keep coming back here, don't I?" Dean counters.
"You really want to be with someone who has as much emotional baggage as you?" she asks.
"Why not?" he says. "I think we do a pretty good job at keeping each other from feeling too sorry for ourselves these days."
Liz gives him a wry smile. "We haven't been having nearly as many pity parties as we used to. I'll give you that much."
"So?"
"So what?"
"You wanna be with me or what?" he asks.
"Way to be romantic, Dean," she says with a roll of her eyes.
"Look, I go out of my way to come here because seeing you makes me feel like I did when Sam was still alive; like I've still got family," he tells her. "I don't want to lose that."
Before he can even register her movement, she's leaning across the bar and her lips are pressed against his.
"So that's a yes, right?"
She laughs and twines her fingers with his. "What do you think, Dean?"
