Venus_star2.com ~ Hi. Welcome and thank you for taking the time to read all three parts. You have a yahtzee for everything you said, except for the sleeping Ava. Well, it depends which one you were talking about cause the Ava that was sleeping upstairs was the actual Ava. The one sleeping downstairs on the couch was Tess.

Chapter 18
Song: I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by
Aerosmith
Crash Down Basement
“Careful Liz.” Maria advised me as I stepped down the first step.
I turn and look at her face and I can see she’s afraid. Afraid but also tired, like me, like we all are. Tired of dealing with these aliens that apparently can’t live with us and can’t live without us.
It doesn’t matter what Max does…they’re still after him. I can’t even begin to imagine the drama we would go through if Max actually did ever accept his position as King.
Slowly making my way downstairs, I see a faint light coming from the end of the room. I know what’s back there, hell we all do, but if going back there means I can live a life where I don’t have to watch my back, as well as the sky anymore, then back there is where I’m going.
Liz’s Room
“Uhhh-ugh!” Rath yelled and gasped when he flew out the Liz’s room and collided against the hallway wall at an angle. “Mother fucker.” He cursed as he scrambled back to his feet and charged back into the Christmas lit room throwing energy balls into the direction Nicholas and Tess were standing.
“Move it. Now!” Max ordered to Isabel, who raised her hand to move the bed to cover their dodge across the room to the bathroom.
Bathroom
“What are we gonna do Max?” Isabel questioned in a panic as she squatted beside Max against the wall.
Max quickly peeked over the corner to see Michael and Ava behind the moved dresser and Rath and Zan squatting by the turned bed, while Nicholas and Tess watched cautiously.
“I have a plan.” Max replied and then looked over to Isabel, whose hair was mess and clothes unstraightened, definitely a rare sight to see from the perfectionist.
“How are we gonna get Michael?” Isabel asked in aggravation looking over to the doorway to see an energy ball swirling her way.
“Watch out!” Max warned, pulling her back against the wall in the nick of time and shield her when the energy ball blasted under the sink, causing the water pipe to burst and completely drench the two.
“Oh, that’s just great.” Isabel huffed letting the water drip on her in defeat. “Max, if you’re gonna kill him, I suggest you do it now.”
Max nodded in agreement and then moved back to the corner, getting Michael’s attention and signaling him to move to the bathroom. “Get ready to cover them.” Max warned Isabel as he turned towards the door, looking Michael in the eyes and silently counting down their move before Max bolted up with Isabel and send a pack of energy balls hurling towards Nathan and Tess, while Michael and Ava dived into the bathroom.
“Ugh!” Michael vented as an inch of water broke their fall.
“He’s too strong.” Ava hyperventilated as she scrambled to safe end of the bathroom.
“No, he’s just clever.” Max answered, looking passed the corner again to see that Rath and Zan took advantage of the move and separated as well, one remained behind the bed while the other moved to where Michael and Ava were.
“I don’t get it Maxwell. Why doesn’t he off us already?” Michael asked as he swiped the water off his face.
“He still needs to know where the Andromena is.” Max reminded, keeping a careful eye out for any rogue energy balls.
“Well, let’s kill him already cause he’s pissing me off.” Michael declared indifferently.
“Let’s.” Isabel agreed, as she was about to stand up when Ava pulled her back down by her soaked sleeve. “Hey?”
“Wait.” Ava warned and then looked to Max. “You can’t off your fourth.”
“Yeah, right. Real funny.” Michael huffed about to get up only to be pulled down by Ava as well.
“I’m serious.” Ava warned.
“No. You’re a kill joy.” Michael retorted in annoyance and then looked to Max. “If we don’t kill her now, say good bye to your white picket fence and your long walks on the beach with Liz, Maxwell, cause you and I both know she’ll run down your fence and drown you in the ocean.” Michael warned, seeing Max expression speak for him that he was in total agreement.
“I’m sorry Ava. But she dies too.” Max declared.
“I call dibs.” Isabel announced, making it clear she wanted to take care of Tess whenever the occasion called for picking.
“Fine.” Michael shrugged off, as he was about to stand up until Ava pulled him down again. “You know, that’s really getting annoying.” Michael vented in irritation.
“You can’t off her cause she’s knocked up.” Ava shouted, seeing the news hit them like a pile of bricks.
“That better be a slang for “almost dead”.” Michael choked out.
“It sucks. I know. Believe me. I know.” Ava snorted in disgust.
“What moron could possibly sleep with her?” Isabel questioned in disbelief.
“Zan.” Ava murmured.
“What?” Isabel exclaimed.
“Oh, well, that’s just great.” Michael panicked.
“He doesn’t know.” Ava defended looking to Isabel and Michael before looking to Max. “He thought it was me.”
“Well, since we’re now officially screwed…wait if Zan doesn’t know and he did the nasty…”
“The nasty?” Isabel repeated as she rolled her eyes.
“…how do you know?” Michael finished.
Basement
As soon as the four of us all step on the concrete floor, the dim light grew, revealing Walt Crawford and T. Greer, standing on the darker end of the basement, waiting.
“An eye for an eye.” Walt chuckled evilly. “A son for a son. I’d just wished it was only me that was there to collect the retribution.”
“You’re gonna wish you never said that.” I warn in deep disgust.
I could feel the tears fighting against me, but I wasn’t about to give them the satisfaction of seeing me cry. To let them see that they hurt me deeply…that I was feeling more pain than I’ve ever felt in my entire life. A pain he was about to feel…over and over if I had the chance.
“It was you, you and your bubble lipped partner over there that caused my boy’s death.”
“In case you didn’t know, he killed himself. I guess not being “man” enough to handle the situation really applied to him.” Maria retorted.
It’s obvious that the comment struck, beat, burned, and massacred a nerve with him.
“He only killed himself to avoid facing Rev and Nicholas. Believe me, that’s a situation you don’t want to be in…but you already have, haven’t you?” Walt asked with a smirk of enjoyment. A stupid smirk that made me cringe and hate him even more. “You got off easy.”
“Easy!” Maria gasped in shock, a response that would’ve suited me if I didn’t feel so…blank. Overwhelmed with hate.
“You can’t even begin to imagine the things those two could do, but Rev…well, just look at your precious King and his second-in-command.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked bitterly. I could actually hear my voice cracking with rage.
“Oh come on. Don’t tell me you can’t tell.” Greer laughed. “You could be human and still tell.”
“That dark look in their eyes…it’s not happiness.” Walt pointed out with a cocky grin. “It’s whatever’s left.”
“Left?” I repeat letting a tear escape me. I don’t know why though. Maybe it’s because I know exactly what “look” he’s talking about. That dark look in Max’s eyes that make me feel…afraid of him.
“Whatever’s left that didn’t die. ” Greer replied as he moved a little away from Walt. “From what I’ve heard, Rev had a great time with Max.” Greer laughed, but then looked at me with a puzzled expression. “They didn’t know.” He concluded in surprise.
“What?” Walt chuckled in disbelief.
“They never told them.” Greer replied in the same shocked tone.
“Told us what?”
Liz’s Room
“Tess being pregnant? I think it’s safe to say that that really bites the big one, Maxwell.” Michael replied, while he looked over to Max, who was still in shock.
“Just be glad she’s not after Max.” Isabel replied, seeing the comment hurt Ava. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…”
“It’s cool.” She shrugged off and then looked over to Max. “So? What’s the plan Duke?”
“Michael.” Max called out, to allow him to plot.
“Up to you Maxwell.” Michael nodded and then scooted closer to the group. “Nicholas gots Tess though so it won’t be easy.”
“We’ll we got Ava, so together, the four of us…we can be the Army they feared we’d become.” Max proclaimed as he tried to balance his squat.
“So what do we do?” Michael asked.
“Tess, she’s been using her powers a lot.” Max pointed out.
“Means she should be in zero mode about now.” Ava concluded.
“So?” Michael questioned impatiently.
“Means she won’t be able to block me.” Ava answered with a smirk.
“Yeah, but you’re not going after her.” Max explained, seeing her eyes widen. “You’re going after Nicholas.”
“You must be screwed in the head or somethin’? You want me to go after the Boss man?” Ava exclaimed.
“Zan and Rath won’t be able to hold them off any longer.” Michael reminded, pressing them for time.
“Look, I need you to buy me some time.” Max pleaded to Ava, seeing her struggle with the idea before finally nodding in agreement. “Isabel, we’re gonna need some cover.”
“Okay.” Isabel nodded quickly.
“Michael, I need you to get Tess.” Max assigned, just getting a nod from him and then turned to Ava.
“And me?” She asked awaiting her role.
“You need to get me as close as you possible can to Nicholas while making him think that we’re still in the room.”
“Tall order, Duke.” Ava replied skeptically.
“Can you do it?” Max questioned.
“Yeah. I gotcha.” Ava nodded and then looked to Michael.
“Kinda hard to make him believe that without Tess tipping him off, Maxwell.”
“That’s why you’re getting her.” Max answered, giving the final order with his eyes. “Let’s go.”
Basement
He tried to explain to me what happened to him, but out of my own selfishness, I refused to hear him. And the fact that they know something we don’t was just amusing to them.
“Don’t worry. You’re about to find out personally.” Greer answered as he charged to us only to be blasted away by Kyle.
“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time now.” Walt announced, as he lifted his hand making the four of us fall on our stomachs, knocking the wind out of us, and then used his powers to drag Maria and me to him.
“Maria!”
“Liz!”
I hear Kyle and Alex shout, but by the time we stopped moving I quickly turned around and sent Walt flying across the air and then felt Maria helping me up. When I get to my feet, Kyle and Alex are right behind us and without warning, Maria starts screaming like a ninja and charges to them with Kyle and Alex following behind her.
Liz’s Room
“For the record, I think we should have gone with our second option.”
“Which was?” Max asked with a smirk
“Kill them all and let God sort them out.” Michael answered with a cocky grin.
“Ready?” Isabel asked getting in front of them and then looked to Ava who was sitting on the floor and then nodded to her before shutting her eyes,
“Go!” Michael shouted as he pushed Isabel to move.
“Let’s go!” Isabel shouted to Rath and Zan, pointing for them to leave while moving the bed for cover in case Ava couldn’t mind warp Nicholas and Tess. But instead of following the two out, she pushed passed Michael and punch Tess out as hard as she could, watching proudly as she fell to the ground. “Now, let’s go.” Isabel said cockily as she straightened herself and cracked her neck before walking quickly out the door, leaving Michael to deal with Tess.
“You’re up, Maxwell.” Michael announced, swooping Tess up in his arm and running out with her to join the others.
Basement
“Ah!!!!” Greer shouted in pain as Maria bite down in his ear after jumping on his back and pulling what was left of his hair with all her might, while Kyle begged for a turn.
I myself was in the same position. Bull riding Walt while I choked him as hard as I could with my arm and Alex hitting him in the torso.
“What are you doing?” We all hear from the top of the stairs and see Zan and Rath there.
“We’re kicking their ass, what does it look like?” Kyle asked before returning to throwing punches at Greer as if he were a punching bag.
“Need help?” Zan offered as the approached us.
“No. We’re cool. Thank you.” Maria replied in jerks as Greer kept taking each swing Kyle was inflicting him with.
“Hit him in the jewels!” Rath shouted, making me loose my grip and fall to the ground when Walt jerked back.
“Ugh.” I exhale when my ass broke my fall and quickly scramble out of the way, seeing Alex take over my seat and start noogy-ing Walt.
“You okay?” I hear Zan ask as he extends his hands and helps me up. Then I see Rath take over for me, play jabbing Walt while Alex pulled a Tyson slash Maria, and bit Walt’s ear before he climbed off him and began stomping his foot.
“Yeah, this was suppose to be dramatic, not a game.” I comment with a small smile and follow him away from the two pile ups.
“They’re just blowing off steam.” Zan excused and then pulled me back when Rath came flying passed us.
“I’m cool. I’m cool.” Rath assured us as he picked himself up and dusted himself off before charging back in.
“Max? Where’s Max?” I ask frantically.
“Doing his King thang.” Zan replied, pointing to the stairs with a tip of his head.
Without thinking twice, I bolt up the stairs to the Crash’s kitchen and see that the wooden stairs are back. I quickly make my way up those and see Michael holding an unconscious Tess on the living room floor while Isabel lied on the couch, doing what I could only assume was dream walking her.
“Liz? Are you crazy? Get out of here?” Michael murmured, trying to not break Isabel’s concentration.
“Where’s Max?” I ask, completely ignoring his order, but before he could answer, I head towards my room while hearing Michael calling me to stop.
Liz’s Room
When I get to my doorway, I see Ava sitting on the bathroom floor with her eyes shut and water sprinkling from God knows where. My room was a complete disaster and only getting worse with Nicholas’s blast to spots where no one was.
Scanning the room frantically, I spot Max at an angle from Nicholas, sitting Indian style on the floor while he conjured a bright green energy ball in front of him.
‘What are you doing?’
‘Gathering enough energy and destabilizing it...it’ll be like a hand grenade.’
I had seen this before, once, back at the Harvest in Tombstone and it was still amazing to see. The ball start to grow, shining brightly as the flicker of his fingers cause it to jolt and pop, with brighter beams of light piercing through the cracks and highlighting Max’s damp face.
‘You can’t touch me...it’ll make the force grow.’
A warning that was good to know, because my first impulse was to send Nicholas flying and then smother Max in kisses.
I then see Max stand up and notice me. I flash him an ‘I’m okay’ smile and he gives me the same look Michael did. I shake my head to let him know I’m not leaving, which I could bet my hands on that he was about to dispute with me about it if it wasn’t for another pop that told him he didn’t have much time to hold the energy ball.
“Ava! Now!” Max shouted.
My head snaps to Ava’s direction and I see her eyes open before she scrambled across the room and passed me. Still not leaving, I watch as Max grabbed Nicholas by his shirt and pull him to his face, smiling at his shocked expression.
“For our baby.” Max declared before taking the energy ball and ramming it inside Nicholas’s mouth before Nicholas raised his hand and sent Max flying across the room to where my bed use to be.
“No!” I yell, raising my hand and sending my own force that without intention hit him in his throat, causing the energy ball to crack even more, lighting up his face with beams of green shining from his eyes, nostrils ears, and mouth.
“No!” Nicholas shouted as he clutched his throat and started shaking in convulsions.
As soon as I take one step further into the room, Max charges towards me, grabs me and covers me by Michael’s room, where I hear the loudest blast I have ever heard followed by a tremble. Peeking out from underneath Max’s arm and all I can see, is a bright green light. The only thing I can think of is, if we’re dead, heaven’s bright white light must’ve change for us aliens.
“You okay?” Max asked me softly as he kissed my forehead. I nod my head and then cup his cheeks to pull him down and kiss his forehead.
“Are you?” I ask and get a nod as well.
Basement
“Go! Go! Go!”
We hear them cheer. Max and me just exchange looks and continue going down the steps to find Zan, Maria and Alex sitting on the steps while Rath and Kyle are going at it with Greer and Walt.
“Bulldog ‘em.” Zan shouted and then our attention was on Kyle who gave a little sprint before grabbing Walt by his hair and diving on the ground with Walt’s face hitting the pavement followed by a wincing “ooo” noise from, I guess you can call them…an audience.
“Yeah.” Rath cheered, high-fiving Kyle.
Kyle then start hopping from foot to foot and doing quick jabs, like some bad imitation of Rocky on top of the steps. But only in Kyle’s interpretation did one of the jabs accidentally hit Walt on the rod in his back, causing him to disintegrate into dust.
“Ah, crap.” Kyle cursed in disappointment when he realized what he had done. “It was an accident.” He apologized to Rath with a shrug, who looked just as disappointed as he held Greer in a tight headlock. “Handicap match?” Kyle suggested, seeing Rath flash Kyle “the wink” and “the gun” to him, which only made him happier. “Oh yeah! Ladies, Human, and Aliens! We got ourselves a handicap match. Let’s get it on!” Kyle imitated in a Celebrity Death Match’s referee’s voice before pumping his arm and then tagging Rath in.
“The chair! Give him the chair!” Maria shouted with her fists in the air.
“There are no chairs down here.” Kyle reminded.
“Oh yeah.” Maria recalls before she sits back down, lowering her arms slowly.
But instead of laughing, like I hear everyone else. I just stand there. Feeling…empty. Quietly, I make my way up the stairs again and Michael picking Tess up in his arms and Isabel and Ava standing beside him.
“It’s over.” I say with a sad sigh, trying to convince myself more than them.
“Not even close.” Michael replied in a dooming voice.
“What? What is it?” I ask not seeing what else could be wrong, besides the fact that Tess was still alive.
“The Denathon. It’s here. In Roswell.” Isabel announced in the same dooming voice.
I couldn’t help but laugh. Not with one of those “that’s hilarious” laughs, but with one of those “I can’t fucking believe this” laughs. I’ve summarized many times what we’ve been through and when ever we think it’s over, there’s always something to suck us back in.
“Liz?” Isabel calls out to me, but I just shake my head, ignoring their confused, concerned looks and head to my room. I reach the center of my room, and look around at what’s left of my room.
Rev’s body in the corner of the room and piece of Nicholas all around. I cover my laugh with my hand as it quickly turned into a cry the more I approached Rev’s body. Before I knew it, my hand was shaking uncontrollably and I just collapsed to my knees, crying hard enough to strain my cracking voice. Cupping my face, I cry louder, feeling my hands dampen from my tears and my face getting warmer.
Lowering my hands slowly, I spot the cracked picture frame of me and Max, ironically with the crack splitting the two of us and I guess you can say that was the straw that broke the camels back. With my trembling hands I pick up the frame, and without thinking, without control, I start hitting Rev’s lifeless body with the picture frame.
“Why? Why? Why?” I cry over and over again, hitting him harder with each question, until I felt a pair of hands grab my wrist softly to stop me from hitting him anymore.
“Liz?”
I close my eyes tightly letting out the tears that were still in my eyes and then look up to see Max getting down on his knees as he took the frame from my hands, setting it down beside him, where I noticed it’s covered in blood. Max carefully turns my hands, palms up and I realized that from each blow the broken glass was cutting my hand.
Funny how I didn’t feel it.
Max covered my hands with his and I start feeling a tingle when a light glow shone between our hands. Once the light was gone, Max bent down and kissed my palms, where I could feel moisture from his face smear against my hands, which only made me cry more. Scooting closer to him, he wraps his arms around my waist, as I did his back, and rested the side of my face on top of his head while he pressed his ear up against my stomach.
“Liz…I-I’m sorry.” He whimpered in my arms and all I could do was brush my fingers through his hair and sway a little to sooth him.
“Shhh, it’s not your fault.” I whisper rocking him for comfort.
Max didn’t ask to be involved. He just was. Past life, future life, any life, he was destined to this no matter how much he escaped it. They all were.
“Oh, God. I’m so sorry.” Max cried even more as he kissed my stomach.
“Max, this isn’t your fault.” I assured him as he holds on to me tighter. Then suddenly I see Michael and Isabel coming in our room in a hurry, followed by Rath and Zan, who were carrying Tess in.
“Po-Po’s here, man.” Rath announced as he took Tess from Zan and sat down on the floor, covering her mouth just in case.
“Just be cool.” Zan ordered as he squatted by Rath.
We sat in silence for what seemed like forever and literally gasped when we heard muffled voices coming from the next room. Suddenly, the door opened half way and we see Deputy Blackwood poke his head in. I held Max closer to me, feeling the tip of his nose touch my neck and his warm breath brush against my skin, just waiting for an outburst, but he just looked left to right and then closed the door behind him. I let out the deepest sigh of relief, as everyone else did and then looked over to Tess’s unconscious body.
“She’s pregnant.” Max informs me. Wow. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it does, but a million times worse than what I’d expected. Tess pregnant? Funny how things turn out. She lives a life of lying and manipulating people to get her way and yet she’s able to have a baby. What did I do so horribly wrong that….oh God, who’s the father?
“Are you…” I trail off, not able to finish my horrible assumption.
“No.” Max answers, sitting up and cupping my cheeks, looking at me to assure me that he wasn’t. “She got…”
“Shh.” I shush him by pinching his lips together. “Max, I don’t want to know.” I whisper as I shake my head. “I can’t breathe Max.”
“What?” Max asked examining me, taking what I said out of proportion.
“No. Max. I can’t breathe with all this.” I confess insinuating what happened. “I feel…boxed in.”
“I don’t-what are you saying?” Max asked, as tears started to build up in his eyes.
“Max, I don’t want out. I don’t. I just need space…to breathe. To scream, and I can’t do that here.” I know what I’m saying is hurting him, but it’s true. I can’t breathe and the fact that Tess is gonna have a baby and I won’t anymore because of her…it’s just suffocating me even more.
“When?” Max asked, killing me inside when his voice started cracking.
“Now.” I tell him cupping his cheeks.
“How long will you be gone?” He asked, surprised by my answer.
“I-I don’t know. But I will be back, I-I just need to deal with this…alone. Okay?” I ask. Max just lowers his head and I look over to Isabel and Michael. “Please take care of him.” I beg and then look back to Max. The second my head turns, Max pulls me down for a kiss and tears start streaming down both our faces.
“I’ll wait for you.” Max whispered, waving his thumb over my forehead.
I felt…weird. Closing my eyes the image of Max singing to me suddenly appeared, but only this time I actually could hear what he was singing.
“What was that?” I ask, pressing my forehead against his.
“A trick you taught me.” Max answered with a forced smile. I look at him confused for a moment, but only come up with the conclusion that he meant the future me. “Liz, if you’re gonna go…I don’t think I could…I think you should go now.”
He’s right, if I stay any longer, I don’t think I’d be able to leave. “I love you.” I whisper to him before stealing a kiss from him and then go running out the room.
‘Liz? Liz where you going?’
I hear Maria call out but I just keep running.
Greyhound Terminal – 8:45 P.M.
‘Now boarding Bus # 218 to Farmington, New Mexico in Terminal 3. Bus # 218 to Farmington, New Mexico is now boarding in Terminal 3.’
That’s me. I see everyone dragging and lugging suitcases, and me, well, I’m travelling with my debt card in my sock, the jacket on my back and the pain in my heart.
Climbing on board, I turn into the second seat on the left side of the bus and look out the window to wave good bye to an old friend, Eddie. If it wasn’t for him and River Dog, I’d be sitting in this bus station for days. At least now I have somewhere to go where I know I’ll be safe.
I jump when the loud decompression of the buses hydraulics kick in to raise the steps and shut the door, and just shake my head in embarrassment. Closing my jacket closely to me, I hug my legs closer to me and snuggle in the corner of the seat, cause let’s face it, how many people are going to the Navajo Reservoir?
I tilt my head back against the corner of the window and seat and look out the window across from me as the bus pulled out the terminal and started heading North. It would at least be a 5 hour drive, not counting the stops, and I should be thinking about everything that happened today…but I’m not. All I can think about is the memory Max gave me before I left.
It’s like I’m right there. In his arms, with him caressing my face with his hands and the tip of his nose.
With Max.
My Max.
“Max.” I find myself sighing before I start humming along to the memory until I slowly fall asleep replaying the moment over and over.
I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you’re far away dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure
Don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to fall asleep
Cause I’d miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I’d still miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Lying close to you feeling your heart beating
And I’m wondering what you’re dreaming
Wondering if it’s me you’re seeing
Then I kiss your eyes
And thank God we’re together
I just want to stay with you in this moment forever
Forever and ever
Don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to fall asleep
Cause I’d miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I’d still miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
I don’t want to miss one smile
I don’t want to miss one kiss
I just want to be with you
Right here with you, just like this
I just want to hold you close
Feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
For all the rest of time
Don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to fall asleep
Cause I’d miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I’d still miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to fall asleep
I don’t want to miss a thing
