I just manage to slip through the diner, giving Maria, Isabel and Michael a quick smile on my way through but heading upstairs quickly. Dad’s sat in the kitchen and I walk in. “Hey dad…I just thought I’d tell you I’m back and I’m off to bed…” I give him a smile and bend over to give him a quick kiss. He looks a little surprised but doesn’t question it, instead nodding and giving me a hug. “Ok honey, night night…”

I hurry out of the room, relieved at how easy it was to convince him, and then make my way straight to my room. Unfortunately, as I reach the door, I hear voices inside. Serena and Alex… I love my sister dearly, but sometimes I really hate sharing a room… Why does this have to happen the one night I want to get some time 'alone'…? Sighing, I push open the door and step into the room I share with Serena. She and Alex are sat over by the computer but I’m just hoping they’re nearly finished. “Hey guys…” I give them a smile. “Are you nearly finished…?” I look at Serena, hoping that she’ll get the message. I’ve done it enough times for her…maybe, just maybe she’ll do the same for me…

"Yep, just about...Alex is like an angel with computers", I smile and stand up motioning for Alex to do the same.

After walking him to the door I turn around and look at Liz. "Hurry up sis, I can only keep the man distracted for so long", I smile at her and then walk out to leave her and Max alone.

Serena nods and takes my hint, helping to get Alex out of the room too. Before she goes, she turns back to me. “Hurry up sis, I can only keep the man distracted for so long…”

Despite the fact that I thought she’d guess, I can’t help feeling a little embaressed. It’s unlike me, I know that as well as anyone, but right now, I just want to spend some more time with Max. I close the door behind Serena and Alex, muttering a quick spell to keep it locked. Never hurts to be careful… Once I’m finished, I go over to my winow. Without hesitating, I lift the sash and stick my head out. “Max…?” I whisper. “Are you there…?”

*MAX*

It seems like I've been waiting here so long, but I'm sure it's not true. I try not to watch the window, knowing that'll only make it seem longer. I look at the wall, the lights, the sky. I try to count off the time I think it'll take for Liz to go inside, get up to her apartment, say hello to her dad, maybe exchange a few words and come into her room.

I glance at the window again. Nothing. Maybe her dad wanted to talk to her about something? I hope it won't take long.

I turn and look out over the traffic and then I hear a scraping sound followed by Liz's voice. “Max? Are you there…?”

A grin explodes across my face as I turn towards the window. I hurry over and kneel beside her, my hands on the window frame. "Where else would I be?" I ask, meeting her lips for a kiss before she can respond. She returns the kiss and we share a second and a third, before she pulls back to answer me.

I can’t see Max at first, my eyes aren’t yet accustomed to the darkness, but suddenly I see something move, and as I focus on the figure, it becomes obvious it’s Max. I smile as he hurries over and kneels outside the window.

“Where else would I be…?”

Before I have chance to respond, his lips meet mine and we kiss. For a moment, I lose myself in him but eventually I pull away. “Sorry it took me a while…Serena and Alex were inside…they’re gone now if you want to come in though…?” I grin at him, my eyes twinkling as I back away from the window. My eyes dart round the room unconsciously, checking for any sign of danger, but I force myself to stop when I realise. This is our room, we’ve got a protection spell active and wards around the window and door…it’s fine…I don’t want to have to worry for now, I just want to enjoy being here with Max…

*MAX*

I grin as Liz invites me in. That is, afterall, exactly why I was roosting on the balcony here.

"Absolutely," I say, as I climb inside. I'd only been in her room once before when Liz and I were trying to find her missing journal. Or wait, I guess it was twice. I was here with Kyle the night of her date with Doug, but I don't really remember that. I was drunk at the time. Not something that's gonna happen again, I can tell you that.

"Serena and Alex?" I can't help but ask. I thought he was interested in Isabel. Of course, Alex has been friends with both girls for a long time, so it's probably nothing.

Liz nods, smiling. "Our computer was acting up again," she explains.

Ah. yes. That makes sense. I wonder if she knows that I'm in here now. But then, I didn't really come here to talk about him. Or Serena for that matter. I move close to Liz, standing just a few inches in front of her taking both her hands in mine and bending my head down to grin at her. "So, shall we pick up where we left off then?"

“Serena and Alex…?”

I can tell he’s surprised and realise that he might think something is going on. Alex might have had a crush on us when we were younger, but I know that at the moment there’s only one girl he wants and that’s Isabel. I guess I should make that clear too…Alex would never forgive me if I let Max give Isabel the idea that he wasn’t interested in her… I look up at Max and nod. “Yeah, our computer was acting up again, as usual…Alex offered to come and sort it…” I explain quickly.

Max gives a small nod, accepting this and then he appears to be thinking about something. I wonder what it is, but don’t bother asking since at that moment, he looks at me again. “So, shall we take up where we left off then…?”

Max takes my hand in his and bends down, grinning. I laugh softly and smile. “Max Evans…are you propositioning me…?” I joke with him. I give him a small smile and bite my lip slightly ”Not that I’m complaining though…” I tell him giggling as I continue to back away, pulling him towards the bed with me. Serena is never going to let me hear the end of this… I pull my hands away from his and slip my arms round his neck, reaching up to press my lips against his. I just want him so much… Right at this moment in time, I’m not thinking of anything else, nothing else matters, just me and Max…

*MAX*

I grin as Liz pulls me towards the bed and meets my lips for another deep kiss. I sit down next to her and pull her close, wrapping my arms around her small soft body. My hands run through her hair again as my tongue explores her lips.

It's so easy to forget everything-else when I'm with her. I no longer feel like an outsider. An alien. I feel whole, and human. I have no idea why the three of us were sent to Earth, why we were left here, alone. But if it was just so I could find Liz, I'd be more than satisfied.

Our kisses grow more intense, as we touch each other. I feel her hands running up and down my back, through my hair. Even under my shirt. Mine are taking a similar course over Liz's perfect body. This is perfect.

Suddenly, I'm lost. I'm here in this room, but not there. Serena and Liz are together, looking at a large book, reading aloud. Something moves on the balcony and suddenly there's a flash of light outside and the two girls relax and smile at each other. I can feel their satisfaction and pleasure. Noticing that there is no hint of surprise.

I blink, realizing that I've stopped. Liz has noticed too. She looks at me as I take one more deep breath.

"Liz..."

We sit down on the bed together and Max wraps his arms around me, pulling me closer to him. I wrap my arms round his neck, running my hands up and down his neck at first, then dropping them lower, sliding under the bottom of his shirt and exploring his chest as our kisses become more intense. I feel myself begin to let go again… We can’t though…we’re not ready…are we…? I can feel his hands running up and down my back and then one rests on my thigh, his thumb rubbing up and down slightly at the point where my skirt has risen to expose my skin. Could this be more perfect…?

Suddenly the room disappears I feel a little like I’m floating in some sort of liquid. The only thing I can see is the viscous fluid moving in front of a while membrane. A hand reaches out and penetrates the membrane, tearing it and allowing some faint light to enter… Then I realise what I’m seeing. This is Max, breaking out of the pod… I’ve seen it before but this time it’s different, it’s as though I am him… He steps out into the cave and I see Isabel standing there. The feelings I’m getting from him are strong, he immediately recognised he had some sort of connection with her… She holds out his hand and I see them walking towards a wall. The hand which I know must be Max’s, reaches out and swipes an area on the wall, revealing a silver handprint which he then presses his hand against. For the first time I begin to wonder about the cave… I always assumed it was just a normal formation…one of the caves out in the desert…the rock formations are full of them… Having just seen what I have I get the feeling that it’s not though…I don’t know how, but it would appear that the cave is itself ‘alien’ related…

“Liz…”

Max’s voice pulls me out of the flash, and I realise that he’s stopped kissing me. As I look over at him I know he’s seen something too. What’s he seen this time…how am I going to explain it…? I raise my eyes to meet his, and wait to see what he’ll say next.

*MAX*

Liz doesn't say anything. She just looks at me waiting. What am I going to say to her? She lied about the fire. I know she did. Will she lie about this, too? Or will it be enough to make her tell me the truth?

"Liz," I say slowly. "I've told you everything about me. You know all my secrets. I've trusted you with my life and I've never regretted it," I tell her.

She smiles at me. "I know," she says.

How can I ask her what she's hiding? I don't know. "I just want you to know how much that means to me. And if you ever need anything, I'll be here for you, too." I manage to say. I look into her eyes, seeing her confusion and doubt. Hoping to end that, I add, "I love you. For always," and kiss her again.
