The crew starts ferrying the ladies over and I see Kyle standing idly by, looking lost. "You're riding with me, slaver."

"I'm not a slaver," he insists.

"You may have these ladies convinced that you're harmless, and that may yet be the case. But I'll be keeping a close eye on you until I have made your measure myself," I tell him.

As we are ferryied over to our respective ships, I am glad that it seemed Tess had joined me. There was something about her that made me feel like I knew her somehow. I'd decided that sailing with Michael would be my best course, because I would be there to be certain that none of his men took advantage of the ladies, and the others weren't going to have to worry about his womanizing ways.

Turning to Tess as we arrived on board Michael's Demons I smiled, "I'm pleased you chose to join me, Tess. I feel there is much we can consider during our days trip and perhaps we can plan well together."

Tess

I felt drawn to Isabel, it almost seemed like I should know her...but I didn't. I couldn't remember ever having met her before. That was the reason why I choose to join her and Michael on the other ship, away from Kyle...our protector who I felt...I don't know what I felt, but whatever it was I could figure it out when we got to the island. Right now I wanted to figure out what was between Isabel and I.

"I'm pleased you chose to join me, Tess. I feel there is much we can consider during our days trip and perhaps we can plan well together."

"Surely so." I looked around onboard Michael's Demon" I can't wait till we are on open sea. I'm ready to get on with our new lives."

"Surely so." Tess began, "I can't wait till we are on open sea. I'm ready to get on with our new lives."

I glanced around at the crew that seemed to be oggling many of us women and came to be glad I'd decided that this was the best way to go. Sighing, I looked over at Tess and smiled, "Shall we go and snoop in Michael's cabin?" I knew that Michael might have a problem with it, but I also knew that no matter what he wouldn't be able to stay angry with me for long.

Besides, after being cooped up in the belly of the slaving ship and all, I felt I needed to do something that could potentially be fun. I just hoped that Michael maintained secrecy and didn't have anything from their shared dreams drawn around his cabin. I still don't know how we became so different, but I do know that some of the things we had seen when we were young were not known anywhere that I'd seen.

I don’t stay to watch as the ladies start into the dingy four or five at a time to cross over to the Star, although I do notice that Liz is lingering at the back of the crowd. I don’t know if that’s from courtesy or fear, but either way, I have other things to do.

I head off to the forecastle with Kyle in tow. There, I find the rest of the crew has tied the slavers securely, leaving just one pirate to watch over them. “Anyone here worth taking on?” I ask James.

He shakes his head, scowling. “Ain’t a one of them I’d trust as far as I could kick ‘em.” He grumbles.

“That’s pretty much what this one says,” I tell him, indicating Kyle. “Although the women claim he’s honorable.”

“Heh,” James grunts, disbelieving. “He’s naught but a slaver.”

Kyle seems to take offense, “Who are you to judge? You’re a damn pirate.”

“Aye,” James grins. “’Tis a far more honest wage than a slaver. Least-wise I'm fightin folks who can fight back. Not helpless wimin and kids.”

One of the other slavers struggles to his feet at this, lunging forward to spit on Kyle. “You told ‘em, didn’t ya brat? You told ‘em were ta find us. Yer a spy. Dat’s whacha are!”

James gives the man a solid whack across the chest with the flat of his blade, sending the slaver sprawling into the deck again. I nod in approval. “Keep an eye on ‘em, then.” I tell James. “We’ll sound the horn when it’s time to go.”

OOC: hope this works

~Liz~

As the women go over, passing over to the Star in groups of four or five, I hang to the back of the group. I don’t really know why, but they seem to be looking to Maria and myself as examples, and since Maria has already gone across, it seems that I should remain here to reassure those who still have yet to make the crossing.

I cannot say this is a familiar position that I find myself in – on the contrary, at home I am used to simply doing as I am told. I might not like it, but I learnt long ago that to oppose my father can be dangerous…

“I am not certain about this…”

I am broken away from my thoughts as I hear one of the women begin to worry. “It will be alright…maybe these are unlikely rescuers, but we are free, the chains are gone, and soon you will be home I am sure…” I tell her softly, remembering that this was one of the few who did wish to go home.

I can’t help wondering what it is which makes her feel that way… A loving parent, a family… A marriage of her choosing, or a man… Since she is one of the older of the group it is even possible that there is a child involved… Whatever it is, I know one thing for certain…she must have something better to go back to than I would…

I force a smile for the benefit of this woman and she seems somewhat reassured, nodding and stepping forward to join the next small group of women who will be next to go across in the boat.

Hmm… I was kinda hoping for a Kyle post first, but I guess it’s time to get off the ship.

After sorting that out, I circle the ship's deck, briefly checking to see how many remain to be boarded onto Michael's Deamons and see there are but four women remaining and this group does not include Isabel. I turn then and lead Kyle back to where the ladies were debarking for my ship. It seemed they were down to the last few ladies there, as well, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Liz was still among that group, although I couldn't identify any of Isabel's other friends.

When Eric arrives with the empty dingy and I send Kyle down first. “Keep an eye on this one. If he is as these ladies attest, he may be joining the crew,” I say, leaving unsaid what would become of him if he did not prove to be honorable.

"Ladies?" I say, bowing out of the way to help them down the ladder. I hold my hand out to Liz, but she refuses, indicating she would wait to descend. Nodding, I help the others, one at a time, until Liz and I are the last two aboard in this area.

"My Lady, Liz?" I ask, offering my hand once again. She seems to color slightly as she takes it and allows me to help her onto the rope ladder. Eric helps her settle into place. Taking out my sword, I sound the evacuation code on the gunwall, knowing that the rest of the crew will immediately prepare to leave as well.

Then, I step overboard, myself, resisting the temptation to simply jump into the dingy and instead merely climb down the ladder and then signal Eric to depart. Space remains next to Liz and I move towards her. "My Lady, may I sit a while with you?" I ask.

OOC: hope this works for you Isabelle, if you want me to change anything, just say.

~Liz~

In groups of four or five, the remaining women pass over. I stand by to the side, offering words of reassurance where necessary, and watching each as the group shrinks, bit by bit…

And then, eventually it comes to the final group. Max comes back leading Kyle in front of him. He takes him over to the side, and as the dingy returns for the last time, he calls down to the man inside. “Keep an eye on this one. If he is as these ladies attest, he may be joining the crew…”

I hold my breath, not wanting to think what he might be leaving unsaid… However gentlemanly some of them might appear, it is a fact that they are pirates…and we all know what pirates will do to their prisoners at times…

Of course I have no doubt that the trust I, and a number of the other women, have put in him, will be well placed… From the first time we saw him come into the hold, there was something different about him…

When he sees that Kyle is seated, Max then bows out of the way. “Ladies…?”

He offers me his hand, but I shake my head, indicating that the others should go first. I see one of the women looking to me and I nod. “I will be following you presently…do not worry…” I tell her softly, squeezing her hand and stepping back as Max moves to offer his hand.

Finally, I am the only woman left, and once more Max offers me his hand. “My Lady, Liz?”

I feel my cheeks grow slightly warm as I nod and take the hand he offers. I don’t know why that would be though… He helps me onto the rope ladder and I decend slowly, a hand reaching out to steady me as I reach the bottom. This must be Eric, I presume, and he gives me a smile before indicating where I should sit and holding out his hand to offer me help and make sure I don’t fall over. “Thank you…” I respond softly, sitting down carefully and listening to a noise which is travelling through the air. I look to Eric curiously. “What is that..?”

“Nothing to worry about M’Lady…it’s the evacuation code, to indicate we should leave…”

I nod and look up, searching for any sign that Max will be following.

“He will be down presently…” Eric tells me, grinning. He looks slightly amused, although I cannot in truth imagine why.

His words prove to be true, as just at that moment a now-familiar figure appears, climbing over the side and down the ladder. Stepping down on the boat, we begin to move before he has even taken a seat and I am surprised to find him moving towards me.

“My Lady, may I sit a while with you…?” He indicates the space next to me.

At first I am a little stunned, but then I realise that it makes complete sense…he needs to sit, and there is a seat next to me available… I nod slightly. “Of course…please do…” I respond softly as I clear my skirt from the seat at the side of me.

We cross the short distance to the Lucky Star without much conversation. I send Kyle up first with Eric and then start helping the ladies up, one by one. Again, Liz seems to linger until she's the last on the dingy.

"Here you go, Lady Liz," I say as she takes her turn on the rope ladder. She seems to color slightly as she starts up. I watch her until she's at the top and Eric is helping her onto the ship. I fasten the lines to the dingy and head up the ladder myself. Eric is already winching the boat out of the water by the time I actually board.

"Captain on board!" he shouts, but this is not a military vessel, exactly. There's no saluting, just respectful nods as the crew goes about their business.

"How much room do we have left?" I ask as I walk towards the bridge. Kyle and Eric stay nearby and Liz is also following along with a few of the ladies. "Do we have berths for all our new guests?" Concidering our side trip to drop off the ladies who wish to return to Londonium, it'll be at least one night before we get to the Ace so they'll need to sleep somewhere.

"Berths, no. Not for all," Sean grumbles. "Hardly got room with all the new provisions and the sailcloth. But we can find 'em some floor space."

I frown. If that's the best we can do, but I hope we can do better. "I'll take a look around later. If the weather's good, we can set up some hammocks on deck for the crew and let the ladies take the berths. They may be a bit smelly, but I think they've endured worse in the last few nights."

Sean nods as I hear the signal from Michael's Demons indicating all are ready there as well.

"Hey," Kyle says suddenly. "If you got all the food and the sails, are you just gonna let those guys starve?" His eyes focus on the slaver ship so we all know who he's talking about.

"They could probably row to shore somewhere before that happened," I tell him. "But don't worry. They're not going to be hungry."

"Everyone is ready," Sean reports.

"Good," I say. "Send the signal."

Sean sounds the horn as Mark mans the flag. In the next instant the cannon fire sounds. The slaver ship is hit soundly from both sides. At least half the hits are at or near the water line. She starts to list as the Star's crew raises sail and we turn towards shore. By then, the slaver ship is sinking fast. I watch it go with grim satisfaction. Serves 'em right.

Turning to Kyle, I say simply, "You can thank these young ladies for saving your life."

OOC: hope this is ok

~Liz~

Max takes his seat, but the journey over to the Lucky Star is reasonably quick, if not completely without event… One of the women decides half way over that she’s not so keen on this idea, standing up and threatening to capsize the boat. I move closer to her, as carefully as possibly, coaxing her to sit back down as best I can. “It will be alright…if you have changed your mind now, and wish to go home, that option is still open, just please, try to stay calm and leave making this decision until we are safely aboard…”

She nods, swallowing nervously and I give her a reassuring smile as she takes a seat next to me.

A few minutes later, the danger is over as we reach the side of the main ship which is to carry us for the rest of the journey.

Max sends Kyle first, and I urge the woman next to me to go next. The sooner she’s on something slightly more like solid ground, the better I have to feel… She looks to me, as thought I will be next and I shake my head slightly. “No…but Maria is already there, and I will be up shortly…Everything will be alright, please don’t worry yourself…” I assure her, hoping that I sound a whole lot more confident about this situation than I actually feel…

One by one, the other women go up, until I’m the last. The only other person aboard is Max and he offers me his hand, helping me up and assisting me onto the ladder. “Here you go Lady Liz…” Steppping up, I carefully place one foot above the other, over and over, mounting the ladder and closing the distance between myself and the deck.

Moments later I’m climbing over the side, assisted by Eric who I nod to. “Thank you…”

He nods back, stepping back to the side and working on some sort of pully.

Max steps up soon after me, and as he boards, Eric looks over. “Captain on board…”

The response to this shout is not exactly the normal on a military ship, but even so, it is clear to see the respect this crew hold for their Captain…

He seems like an intreiguing man, one I can’t help thinking I might like to get to know better I have to admit… I look down awkwardly, wondering where that came from, then shake my head, telling myself not to be so silly, what’s wrong in thinking I would like to get to know him… Even in the short time I have seen him, it’s more than clear he’s not exactly the average pirate. I would imagine that he is quite well educated, and would enjoy the chance to talk to him I am sure…

Then, as I watch, I’m reminded of exactly what he, and these other men are… Before my eyes, I see him give the order which results in a signal to fire…for both boats to fire at the ship which had carried us away from our homes… The ship on board which were still the slavers… My hand flies to my mouth, stifling a gasp. I don’t want to believe what I’m seeing…

I swallow, stepping forward to the shipside, unable to tear my eyes away as I see the slaver ship begin to sink below the waves which crash against it’s side… The air is damp with salty spray and since it has long since fallen from it’s fastenings, my hair wraps itself around my neck somewhat. What comes next, I don’t know, but I guess, or at least I hope, it will be better than that which came before…
