A Second Beginning – Part 1 of 3
Michael Guerin dropped his bag onto the floor and took a step back, taking in the large hotel room he would be staying at for a while. The lonely atmosphere almost brought a tear to his tough exterior. His life was in no uncertain terms in shambles.
After leaving Roswell a year ago with his friends, he found himself alone. Sure he had Max and Isabelle, Liz, Kyle and Maria, but it just wasn’t the same. Being away from Roswell didn’t necessarily bother him because he didn’t have much of a home life there. His family consisted of the people he was friends with and they were already with him on this new journey. It was the dynamics of the group that had changed, and made him feel in adequate. Spending every waking moment with people you care about does eventually take a toll and it was tough sometimes living together. Max and Liz wanted, and rightfully so, needed their space. Kyle and Isabelle had even started to become closer. If he hadn’t known Isabelle so well he was almost starting to think that maybe something romantic was growing between the two of them.
The thing that broke his heart was his relationship with Maria. He finally thought he had become the man she needed, the man she wanted…but things just didn’t work out between them. The fiery passion they used to have in their squabbles had turned to actual flames, torturous and dangerous. After a year of on again off again between the two of them, it was over. Over. He still couldn’t comprehend it. She had made him into a better man, she brought out things in him that he couldn’t describe, but it was over. It was over.
After a few weeks of stark realization that things were never going to change, luck finally entered his life after being absent for so long. He had a vision that showed him some alien artifacts that he instinctively knew would be important for their survival. In the vision he saw the Statue of Liberty in the distance, and he knew that his vision had meant for him to find the artifacts somewhere in N.Y. The gang didn’t hesitate when he asked to go alone. They knew he needed a break and that some time alone would do him good. Maria felt the worst when he left, almost wishing things could work out between them, but knowing that they wouldn’t she carried on, wishing him the best.
He walked over to the neatly made bed and laid down. His long trip had made him tired which was unfortunate because his emotions had already reached the point of exhaustion. He slept there, ignoring his pain and willed his misfortune subconsciously away.

Deserea and her friend Mandy had been at their mutual friend Joshs house and had a bit of an impromptu party for the last few hours but had finally decided to call it quits. They both appreciated a good time and a good party, but once it starts to fizzle, it was time to go.
“Later!” Deserea called out over her shoulder and she closed the door. It was pitch black outside and the moon was beautiful. It was one of those nights that give you that great feeling. You know the feeling, the kind you get when the wind perfectly wraps around your face like a blanket and you feel like you’re going to live forever.
“So where to next?” Mandy asked with a tired smile on her face. Her blonde hair shimmered in the surprisingly heightened moonlight.
“Geez aren’t you tired?” She asked half joking half not. After a few seconds of silence they both laughed and began walking down the street.
“So seriously where to? I don’t feel like going home.” She asked again.
Deserea thought about it for a moment. She didn’t really feel like going home herself, but she wasn’t up enough for another party scene.
“I dunno, wanna go to the boulevard and get something to eat?”
Now that was one thing they could always agree on. Friendship and food, it definitely went hand in hand. They walked a bit and laughed the entire way.
“Hey lets go in the 7 11, I don’t want a meal I want junk food.” Deserea said happily nearing the store.
They walked inside, tiredness beginning to involuntarily take over them both. Deserea went for the sweets and Mandy became fixated on something behind the counter.
“Hey Dez come here!” She called her friend. Deserea walked up to her, twizzlers in tow.
“Check out that new scratch off, it looks really cute we should so get one right right now, I’m feeling lucky.”
“It says I heart NY, this is California, that’s so weird.”
“Two please.” Mandy asked the man behind the counter and Deserea paid for her twinkies at the next cashier.
“It’s because the grand prizes are either 100,000, a major shopping spree or a trip to N.Y…” she said reading the back of the ticket.
“Cool, why not? lets do it outside.”
They walked outside, both now completely sleepy.
“I can’t believe I’m doin this, you know we never EVER win these things.” Deserea said sleepily taking a bite out of her twizzler and taking a penny out of her pocket to use.
“Yeah you’re right… hey, hold up… I totally won something!” Mandy said scratching away furiously. “I won ten bucks!”
“Nice! You were lucky!” she responded with a smile and then looked back at her own ticket. Mandy went inside to cash in her prize.
“Ok lets see…” Deserea said quietly to herself as she scratched the tiny silver card. “9…Heart…8…4…Heart…Heart” She wished she could’ve just won ten bucks like her friend but instead she was destined to read the fineprint to discover what three hearts meant.
“I’m in the money… I’m in the money…you look so confused.” Mandy sang with a laugh as she walked over to her best friend. “You have THREE HEARTS!!!!”
“Yeah I know, what the hell does that mean?!”
“It means you won the trip to N.Y.!! I read the back before when you were buying your stupid twizzlers remember? See, look!!”
It was true. It was actually true.
“Oh my God!” Deserea shrieked loudly.
“You know those things always come with a guest, just remember who forced to buy that ticket missy!”
“Ahhhh!!!!!” She screamed excitedly. “We’re going to New York!”
It hadn’t really hit her until hours later when she was comfortably resting on her fluffed up pillow, and lying under her covers. She had won something. This was something that might sound like normalcy to anyone else but it was unusual for her. She had been going through a rough patch in her love life and was feeling pretty unlucky lately. But there it was, the shiny little piece of paper lying next to her bandstand that proved that luck can change. She fell asleep with a smile on her face.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The rest was a whirlwind. She had told her family, had a hilarious phone conversation with her other close friend Joshua, visited the lottery office to claim her prize, took some days off of work, packed her things, made sure that Mandy had packed her things and found her self standing on the plane boarding line 2 days later.
“I’m so excited!” Deserea said happily.
“Me too, but It is waaaayy too early for your enthusiasm.” Mandy replied taking a sip of her soda, yearning for the caffeine to kick in. “Ya know we’ve been so crazed trying to get ready so fast that I forgot to get any of the details like oh I dunno, where are we staying?…”
Deserea laughed. “Hmm I’m not really sure myself! Ok ok, lets see…” she said taking out her prize pack. “ Ok we’re staying at …the Hilton! Wow that’s awesome… ok and we’re staying for basically a week, 7 days four nights…”
“This is so awesome.”
“It really is, thanks for being drawn to that stupid ticket.”
“No prob, that’s what I do, I get attracted by shiny objects.” Mandy replied with a laugh.
Deserea stood there extremely excited. It was the first time in a long while that she felt things were working out in her favor. She was about to enjoy a free trip with a great friend. The sky was the limit, and in a place where skyscrapers came dangerously close to the sky, she knew she was in for something amazing. In the middle of her own happy self revelation a somewhat good looking guy nearby noticed her while passing quickly, trying to get to his own line. She smiled back and they went their separate ways. And that’s how it usually went, guys took notice of her all the time, but nothing major happened. Sometimes it’s the pretty girl that gets the least dates. Every guy assumes she’s taken, and those who have the courage to ask her out, are usually jerks. Her eyes sparkled in the dramatic sunlight that crept through the glass windows.
“The lines moving!” Mandy said excitedly waking her out of her thoughts.
They boarded the plane and took off with of them both thinking, this was a trip they would never forget. Hours later they landed, checked themselves into their new room for the next week and took a well deserved nap. After all it was a long trip, and they had to be well rested for the N.Y.C. nightlife.

Michael walked through the crowded streets, feeling more alone than ever in his life, and completely frustrated. It was almost as if the more people he had surrounding him, the smaller he felt. His vision so far had been a bust, and the more he searched for clues, the less he found. He had too much pride to go back to the others now, so he walked. He walked each day until it hurt, looking, searching and hoping, and ending each day the same, exhaustedly climbing into his way too big for one-person bed.
It was a hot and sticky day and in the constant sea of people he was getting restless. He found himself near Central Park and sat down tiredly on a park bench. It was beautiful out, the sun was shining and he had never seen grass so green, but it didn’t phase him at all. It was then that it hit him.
Like a ton of bricks slamming onto his head he had a vision right there in the middle of the park. He saw the artifact he had seen the last time but it was no longer anywhere near the Statue of Liberty, it was now on someones neck in a crowded space. Looking around desperately, he knew instantly that it was a café, and that by the shade from the windows, it was nighttime. Fearing the vision would end, he searched desperately in his mind for anything that would tell him where to find this place. He then saw a woman walking over to the counter holding a coffee mug with the words “Property of The Hoffee Couse” on it. Just as quickly as the vision overtook him, it vanished.
He was exhausted from the power it took from him, but he was relieved to finally be put on the right path once again. He headed back to the hotel in expert time to use the internet room. Typing in the silly name for a café “Hoffee Couse”, he found it to be relatively nearby. Finally he had some direction, tonight he would go there and to see if his trip to N.Y. had been worthwhile.
Hours Later...
So far worthwhile wasn’t quite the word he would use to describe the experience. He had been standing inside the café, outside the café and walking aimlessly around the café for what had seemed like hours. Nearing 2 in the morning he was getting antsy and discouraged, not to mention the fact that he had consumed so much caffeine in him that he was completely wired.

Deserea and Mandy had been dancing the night away and had a great time doing it. There was just something about an all expense paid trip to a fabulous city that just loosens you up. It was about that time of night that guys had finally had enough to drink to start really making their moves. It wasn’t much different than where she was from. You had your typical “bad dancer”, the typical “too hot for anyone”, the “holy crap please get the hell away from me”, and the “oooh I hope he comes over here” guys dispersed around the dance floor perimeter. After dancing awhile with her friend, Deserea was slowly whisked away by one of the “too hot for themselves” guys. With a look of silent disgust she noticed that her friend had also been lured away, only her man was extremely good looking with a kind face. It’ll just be one dance, I can survive this, she pleaded to herself inwardly.
It wasn’t. After 5 dances with 5 completely seedy types, she looked over longingly at Mandy who had been steadily having a great time with her partner. She tried giving her the “let’s get out of here” eyes but it wasn’t working. A somewhat 40 year old looking man asked her to dance and it was just the last straw. She walked over to Mandy.
“Hey, are you ready to get going?”
Now it was Mandy’s turn to give her “the eyes”. She was clearly having a great time and didn’t want to leave at all.
“Not yet if you don’t mind… I’m having a lot of fun with Jeff here.” She said with a smile. He extended his arm and shook Desereas hand.
“Ok well I’m gonna head out if you don’t mind.” She said pointing to the older man who was still leering after her. “I think my new boyfriend over there will survive without me so I’ll just meet you back at the hotel, you have cab fare?”
“Yeah… are you sure, I don’t want you to go back alone…”
“I’m good... have fun guys… nice to meet you Jeff!” She replied sweetly and heading for the exit. That was the thing about Deserea, she was kind and she was always loyal to her friends. If she could help someone she cared about have a great time there was no second thought to doing something about it.
She walked around for a bit taking in the beautiful buildings and the bright lights everywhere. She looked around at all the stores around her Macys, Starbucks, Les Boutique, Hoffee Couse… Hoffee Couse she laughed to herself. She had to admit it was catchy, it was almost as ingenious as the fictional “Central Perk” on friends. She decided to check it out, if New York was supposed to be famous for pizza, bagels and coffee she was gonna find out for herself firsthand.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A now very awake and jittery Michael stood at the counter ordering yet another cup.
“Should I just go ahead and switch this one to decaf?” The man behind the counter asked, looking him over suspiciously.
“Uh yeah that’s fine.” He responded. When he first walked in, he wasn’t even really sure if he even liked coffee, but after drinking more than 5 cups that decision was decided for him. Great, just what I need, to start liking something else that’s bad for me, he thought to himself. Taking his cup and turning around quickly he found himself starring into the most beautiful pair of eyes he had ever been witness to. Maybe it was the sight of her that did it or plain sheer clumsiness, but he spilled her coffee on the shiny wooden floor.
“Hey sorry about that… I didn’t get anything on ya did I?” he asked nervously.
The cashier eyed him in his annoyance, grabbing a mop.
“No no, I’m... I’m fine.” She stammered.
He was gorgeous. Not in the sense of being perfectly dressed and perfectly groomed, but in the rugged rolled out of bed gorgeous way. His eyes, they were this perfect shade of brown, and his soft hair outlined his face…
“Did you hear me?” He asked again with a smile.
She was clearly embarrassed, her thoughts about him had completely shut out whatever he had tried to say.
“No I’m sorry, what did you say?”
“I asked what you ordered, I’ll buy you another one.”
“Oh no that’s alright…”
“Please, I insist… not your fault I’m a clutz, and I’m pretty sure you didn’t walk in here to pay six bucks for it to spill on the floor.”
She laughed. He was funny, she thought to herself. Funny and cute, but in a modest sort of way.
“I ordered a vanilla latte.” She said with a smile.
“One vanilla latté please.” He said to the other cashier, he didn’t dare look at the cashier who had been annoyed by him all day.
They stood there in awkward silence. She’s absolutely beautiful, he thought to himself. It was the first time he had been so attracted to someone who wasn’t Maria and it startled him.
“Here you go sir.” The man said placing it onto the counter. He grabbed it and gestured for her to take it from him.
“I have a better idea.” She said trying not to lose sight of him just yet. “I’m here alone, … would there by any chance that you want to sit with me? If your not alone or busy I understand…”
“No, that sounds great.” He said with disbelief on his face. This wasn’t the sort of thing that happened to him. Nice guys may finish last, but lately he felt like he was making it an artform.
They sat down together and had perhaps the most comfortable conversation you can have with someone that you’ve just met. They each had a similar sense of humor and an ease about each other that meshed perfectly. Her personality had always been outgoing and friendly but mixed with his vulnerability at this time of his life, they had a great flow going. After their cups were finished they had discussed everything from their dating experiences to their favorite t.v shows.
It was then that it hit him. He was there for a reason and by not paying attention he may have missed what the vision had tried to desperately show him. It was then that he noticed the words on her mug., “Property of the Hoffee Couse” It was a different type of mug than he was using, they must give different mugs for different drinks, he thought. Maybe he wasn’t meant to find the artifact tonight, he knew that when the time was right he’d find it. He laughed inwardly, now this is not the Michael Guerin Maria first met. It was then that he made peace with their breakup. She had molded him into a great guy, a guy who instead of exploding things, rationalizes and reasons situations. He watched Desereas mannerisms as this thought processed through him, he was in awe of her. After a few moments of awkward lingering, she spoke again.
“So, I guess we’ve had enough caffeine to talk each other to death, and I don’t want to leave knowing that I’ve bored you to death.” She said standing up.
“No... you didn’t, I had a great time. I would have had a pretty boring time talking to myself.”
She smiled shyly. She couldn’t look at him straight in the eye without feeling completely and utterly attracted to him.
“Listen, here’s the number to the hotel I’m staying at. “ She said grabbing her eyeliner and a napkin from the table.
“Maybe we can do something again this week?”
“That would be great.” He said taking the napkin and folding it.
“I need to catch a cab downtown, you?” She asked as they exited the café and entered the noisy street.
“Me too actually, we can go together.”
After hailing a cab and asking for two stops the driver asked her for her address first.
“Um, lets see she said taking out a business card. 454 West and 8th please thanks.”
It was uncanny.
“Are you serious, that’s where I’m staying.” He said taking out his own business card.
She grabbed it from him playfully.
“Wow, that’s hilarious!… maybe it’s fate.” She said in a flirting manner with a small laugh. “Just the one stop then please.” She called out to the driver.
“Maybe it is.” He responded looking over in her direction. They locked eyes for a moment, and the heat between them was more than apparent. It must’ve been more than a moment because before they knew it…
“Ok here ya go.” The cab driver said stopping the car. “That’ll be 7 bucks.”
Michael paid the fare and they entered the hotel together.
“I’m on the third floor.” She said pushing the button for the elevator to come.
“Fourth for me, I’ll walk you.”
It was funny. They had had an amazing time at the café, their conversation rarely contained a silent moment… but standing outside her room, they had almost morphed into young teenagers
“Well It was really nice meeting you.” Michael said extending his hand. She took it with a smile and shook it lightly. They stood there that way for a moment. It was the curse of the almost kiss. They both looked at each other clearly wanting to make a move…any move, but no one did.
“I’ll call you.” He said breaking the contact. With one last look he walked away and headed for the elevator, silently cursing himself the entire 20 steps.
She couldn’t bring herself to walk inside, and found herself just starring after him. She had never felt such a connection before in her life. There was something special about him, and she couldn’t risk him not calling.
“Michael!” She called out, she desperately tried to disguise the loud click clacking of her shoes in the quiet hallway at such a late hour, but couldn’t. His hand blocked the closing elevator door as she approached him.
She stood before him, his hand holding the door without much effort, it was almost as if he willed it to stay.
“Whats up?” he asked innocently.
“Ok I don’t want to appear like a crazy person but um… do you feel what I’m feeling?” she said stepping into the elevator with him.
He looked at her intently, seriousness locked in his eyes. Before the elevator doors closed, he walked over to her and softly pressed his lips onto hers. She closed her eyes reassuredly and reveled in the kiss, wrapping her hand around his neck.

A Second Beginning, part 2 of 3:
The elevator doors opened on Michaels floor but they were so enraptured by each other that they stayed open for a long while, waiting for them to leave. Someone must’ve pressed the button on another floor because the doors closed around them and they began moving up. Only upon hearing footsteps enter the elevator did they part lips reluctantly. They were now sharing the elevator with an elderly woman who was wearing an extremely stern face. Deserea beamed shyly through a tight thin smile as Michael touched his bottom lip with his thumb.
It seemed liked years before the woman got off on her floor and the doors closed once again, leaving them alone together. They were silent for a moment and Deserea pressed the button for her floor.
“So...” She said with a smile.
“So...”
The doors opened slowly onto her floor and they stepped onto the soft creamy colored carpet.
“I’m glad you came back… I shouldn’t have let you leave without....”
She smiled and kissed him softly but briefly.
After pulling away slowly she looked up at him. “Do you wanna come to my room? You can meet my friend Mandy if she’s back… and if she’s not…”
“Sounds like an offer I shouldn’t refuse.”
“You probably shouldn’t.”
“You’re the boss.” He said with a quick smile.
She smiled and led him to her door, using her key card and opening the door slowly to the dark room. He closed the door behind them as she checked to see if Mandy was asleep.
“Nope, she’s not back yet… I guess Jeff is an all nighter kind of guy.”
“Jeff?” he asked sitting down on one of the two beds.
“Oh, he’s this guy she met last night when we went dancing… that’s how I ended up at that coffee place, she was having a better time there so I left.” She answered sitting down next to him. “Would you mind if I took these things off, they’re killing me?” She asked pointing down to the evil strappy heels that had taken her feet prisoner with a sad face.
Michael nodded with a small shrug of his shoulders in response. She tugged and tugged but she wasn’t getting anywhere, they hurt too much from all the dancing and walking and she was way too tired for the chore.
He let out a small laugh and bent down to do it for her. It took a moment to get the gist of the unreasonable shoes but he untied the clasp and she let out a sign of relief.
“Oh thank god.” She said laughing.
He moved up slowly to sit back but found himself locked with her eyes, much closer than before.
She wasn’t one who got flustered very often, but the closeness of him and the clear vulnerability that shone from his deep brown eyes caused her to feel extremely nervous.
He pushed back a tiny strand of hair that had fallen on her face and sat back. It was the kind of move that would lead to an amazing kiss in any television show or made for tv movie, but it was done so innocently that he didn’t even seem aware of it. She smiled.
“You know, you’re not like any of the guys I’ve encountered lately… I know we just met but from what I see you’re a really decent guy.”
Decent? Wow, Maria would have died hearing this conversation, he thought. It was Maria who had made him decent but he felt that she lost her own amount of decency in the process. The love he once had for her was still there somewhere, but was overshadowed by the changes they had both made in their lives.
“Thanks… you don’t know the half of it.”
She smiled. “Well I’m sure that nothing you could tell me would shock me anymore than what I’ve seen or heard about.”
He laughed out loud without realizing. “That’s what you think.”
“Ok so decent guy has secrets, that’s ok. We all have them.”
“Well that’s one way to look at it.” He responded getting up. “Listen, I’m really glad that we met tonight, but I should get going back to my room. Your friend will probably be here soon and one thing you should probably know about me is that if you give me an inch I usually screw up the rest so I’d like to go while you still think I’m decent…” He rambled, playing with the pockets of his brown jacket.
“Come on now, you can’t be that bad.” She asked with a laugh, walking him to the door.
He gave her a look and Deserea smiled.
“Ok ok, just one more thing to learn about you later then I guess.” She said grabbing the handle and opening the door 2 inches.
“Later huh?”
“Mhm.”
There was something about the way she looked at him. Maybe it was the niceness of her personality that was clearly apparent, perhaps it was even the innocence of their first meeting that made her look the way she did. Whatever it was, something willed him to her.
He moved closer, enveloping her without a single touch and backed her into the door, causing it to close again. With his right hand he grabbed her neck and pulled her lips to his in a fluidic motion. There was a tremendous amount of raw passion between them that they couldn’t explain nor cared to.
She reacted to his touch at first submissively and then dominated the kiss by adding more soft pressure to his lips. The sheer feeling of his body pressing her against the door was more erotic than any other sexual experience she had ever felt. They stood there as their lips lingered to each touch, tongues massaging each other more feverishly through soft open mouths.
Every feeling that they had about moving too fast, past relationship baggage or hurt feelings were erased in that moment, and all they wanted was each other.
Deserea pivoted around him and pressed the back of his head closer to her with her hand. She ran her fingers through his hair as she guided him to the bed, falling backwards on the soft comforter. As his weight fell urgently on her, she felt as if his body was a part of her own that had been missing all of her life. Like a puzzle, he fit perfectly towards every one of her curves.
Removing his lips from hers, he began trailing warm kisses on the right side of her neck. Her eyes closed instinctively as each contact from his lips to her skin began to make her feel lightheaded. Upon reaching her ear he let the still breath from his mouth escape quietly into her ear. It was quite possibly the smallest of movements he had consciously made thus far, but the reaction it received had caused a moan to escape her lips.
The sound of her receptive voice instantly reassured him of any feelings of inadequacy that had reluctantly floated through his mind. After all, he hadn’t been with many girls lately.
As if knowing what his thoughts were, she put her hands on either sides of his head and crashed his lips to hers passionately. Her mouth beneath his sent his mind into a place he had never felt or allowed himself to feel. He loosened the string to her halter top that now hung loosely behind her neck, and she unbuttoned his shirt blindly, seeing only the backs of her eyelids as his lips entranced her. They breathed heavily with each prospect of air as she finally unbuttoned his last button and pushed the shirt it off his strong shoulders. She slid her hands around his neck, shoulders and underneath his seductively worn black wifebeater. She slid it up urgently causing it to bunch up before she pulled it over his head.
After a moment he broke their kiss and expertly removed her top, leaving skin against skin with the exception of her strapless bra between them. He traced her neck to her belly button with his lips as she reached behind her to unclasp her bra.
“Hey honey I’m home!” Mandy yelled as she slammed the door and dropped her keys and purse onto the floor. She clearly had a bit too much to drink but mostly looked exhausted from the fun time she had. She hadn’t even noticed them until she turned the small corner to see her half naked friend and a very hot bare-chested stranger.
Michael had jumped back quickly and sat down next to Deserea, picking his clothes back up from the bedspread. She did the same.
“Well look at you miss I’m not having a good time I think I’m gonna go!” Mandy exclaimed with a smile as she threw a pillow at Deserea.
She laughed, “ I’m so sorry! It’s a long story I’ll explain later when I’m not naked… and anyway I thought you’d be out till like 5 in the morning anyway.” She retorted playfully, throwing it back.
“I’m Michael by the way.” He said with a sarcastic smile, re-buttoning his shirt.
“Veeerrrryyy nice to meet you Michael, and FYI it is past 5 in the morning, its 6.” Mandy added matter of factly with a raise of an eyebrow.
Deserea smirked and Michael smiled at their interactions.
“Well I guess this is DEFINITELY my cue to leave now.” He said standing up and dug his hands deep into his pockets and tightened his arms straight.
“Don’t mind me, I’ll just be in the bathroom in case you guys need a Kodak moment. Nice meeting you!” Mandy called out as she walked to the bathroom and closed the door behind her.
Once again they found themselves at the door.
“Now this is goodnight right, not goodbye?” She asked inquisitively.
“Definitely just good night… or good morning for that matter.”
She reached up and kissed him gently. Falling back into habit he couldn’t accept a brief kiss at this moment in time and was pretty sure he wouldn’t be able to for a very long time. He quickly drew her to him and she deepened the kiss willingly.
She maneuvered her hand behind them and opened the door. Reluctantly they parted lips.
“I figured If I didn’t open it I’d never get you home.” She explained with a laugh.
“You’re probably right.” He responded. “I’ll see you hopefully tomorrow?”
“You know where I live… at least for this week.”
He smiled and leaned in one last time…
“Hey!” Mandy yelled opening the door and nearly pushing Deserea across to the opposite wall of the corridor.
“Ssshh.” She responded rubbing her now red elbow. “Its 6 in the morning, you want everyone to hate us here?” She whispered as loudly as possible.
Mandy grimaced. “Sorry, when I drink I’m not very good at the loud whispering.” She explained in a normal voice.
“I see.” Michael joked. Something in her hand caught his eye and then made his thud loudly inside his chest.
“I just didn’t want you to forget this.” Mandy said handing him a charm.
He didn’t even need to look at it to know what it was. It was the artifact he saw in his vision. The charm had a round shape with Antarian inscription on the back of it in small symbols.
“Where did you get this?” He asked with a stoic face and an even tone.
“I found it on the floor, isn’t it yours?”
He was confused and bewildered let alone other stranger feelings.
“Uh yea, thanks for finding that, I didn’t even realized I dropped it.”
Deserea watched his face and saw his expressions change rapidly with what she could only imagine coincided with thoughts.
“You ok?” she asked with a nudge.
“Yea yea, I’m fine.” He said starring at Mandy suspiciously as if he were to find answers through her eyes. Her expression was blank and she went back inside with a smile and wave. She seemed genuinely clueless and the story she told felt genuine.
“I’m gonna go.” He said kissing her cheek briefly.
“Ok I’ll… see you tomorrow.” She said quietly as he walked away quickly and pressed the button for the elevator. She felt like something strange had just happened but she couldn’t figure out what it was. Quickly dismissing it and recapping the nights events she went inside happily, ready to gossip with her friend.
Mandy was sitting upright on her bed totally awake with a huge smirk on her face.
“Oh Shut up.” Deserea laughed sitting on her bed and grabbing a pillow over her lap
“What I didn’t say anything?”
“Your eyes are saying enough.”
“So come on where’d ya meet him?!
They continued on with their discussion about the nights events, having perhaps the funniest conversation they had ever had between them. After an hour had gone by they found themselves turning out the lights and trying to fall asleep before the sun could storm through their window. After all the luck they had encountered recently, having such a great night was something unexpected and they were very grateful for it. This was literally one of the best times of their lives thus far.

Michael sat up against his pillow feeling a combination of happiness, confusion, suspicion and he couldn’t keep himself from feeling on edge. Millions of questions flooded his mind over and over again. Was this a sign? Was Mandy lying? Was this all a trick? Did they know something he didn’t? Were they telling the truth? Was it all a coincidence? Was he in danger? Should he take the next flight back? Was this the girl for him? Should he love again? Could he?
He picked up the charm from his nightstand and looked at it for what seemed like the hundredth time. He didn’t know what the symbols meant and holding it gave him no visions of clarity. The last thing he saw before sleep took him was Desereas smile, and for that moment between sleeping and awake he felt at ease.

Desereas Dream…
She was wearing a long flowy silk dress in the middle of a moonlit path in a large overcast garden. It was a maze and she struggled to find her way out, tripping slightly over her long train of fabricmore than a few times. Suddenly she heard a rustling around a corner of rosebushes. When she ran towards the sound, he was there. He wore a white suit and a calm expression.
“Where are we?” She asked with a hint of panic in her voice.
“Don’t worry, I can get us out of here.” He responded nonchalantly. “Step back.” He commanded in a unfitting gentle tone. She moved away slowly and gasped as she saw him wave his hand over the tall bushes, watching them disappear one by one into thin air.
“How did you…”
He walked towards her and gently put her chin in his right hand.
“Everybody has secrets.”
Desereas eyes opened instantly. She was completely startled for a moment or two before she realized that it was just a dream. Just a dream, she thought. Just a dream.

Michaels Dream…
Michael had just pushed Mandy to the floor, standing over her demanding for the truth.
“I swear I just found it, what’s the matter with you, stay away from my friend, you’re crazy!” She cried loudly as his face whitened and she crawled backwards from him.
“I… I’m sorry.” He stammered. He looked over at the mess he’d created and at Desereas confused expression as she watched her horrified friend. She looked at him, the stranger she had instantly had feelings for and was now disappointed in. The look chilled him to the bone and he was suddenly about to run when Isabel walked into the room calmly. All that was happening seamed to cease and he was the only one in the room who knew she was there.
“What are you doing you moron?” She demanded, punching him in the arm.
“I don’t know what I’m doing?!” He yelled. “I’m a freakin mess! I hate Maria! I hate this freakin life we have of us feeling unsafe every minute! I hate that I came here to find this stupid artifact and getting more questions than answers! I hate that I just hurt someone that I’ve had more of a connection with in 24 hours than I have had with anyone in my entire life!! I hate myself!”
She waved her hand, causing the pending situation around them to disappear as they now stood together in a dark room.
“You’re Ok Michael… you’re doing exactly what you were sent here to do.”
“What? What the hell are you talking about Izz?!” He asked nearing tears.
“It was me.”
“What was you?! Was it you that is very much aware that he is asleep right now and dreaming about being even more of an asshole than he is in real life? Was it you that is making me feel really confused right now?!”
“No… but right now what you just felt wasn’t real… you never hurt her, it was all a dream… but this is real… what I’m telling you right now is real.
“Izz you’re scaring me what the hell are you talking about?”
“I sent you here.”
“Come again?”
“I gave you the vision of the charm, I needed you to come here.”
“What?!! Why?!!”
“Because it was the only way you’d find what you were really looking for?”
“Oh really and what was that?!”
“Her.”

A Second Beginning
Part 3 of 3, enjoy!
“I’m sorry, I must be hallucinating…I thought you just said you sent me here…and that it was to meet someone.” Michael said with a laugh.
“…I did… do you even listen to me?”
“Izz! What the hell do you mean you SENT me here. I’m the one who took the plane… I came here by myself, my own free will!”
“Yea but why?”
“Cuz I had a vision… I told you this already.”
“And I just told you 3 minutes ago that I GAVE you that vision. Seriously Michael, you’re not the easiest person to talk to.”
He stood there in silence, silently freaking out about this new revelation.
“So if you gave me the vision, which by the way is very creepy, and you really are gonna have to show me that new trick one day… why?” He asked exasperatedly.
She paced back and forth as she spoke in her usual rapid Isabel voice.
“Well someone had to… I mean Michael you were a mess. With the whole you and Maria thing, Geez I’ve never seen you so… so…depressed…”
“Me depressed? Listen I’m not some old lady with menopause problems…”
“See this is exactly why I sent you away… tell me Michael…haven’t you been more relaxed out here?”
He thought about it for a moment. He had been. He nodded with a scowl.
“And didn’t you meet someone that helped you get out of your funk?”
“Ok yeah but what the hell Izz are you Miss Cleo now? Are you a psychic alien hybrid? How did you know I’d meet Deserea?”
“Oh so that’s her name.” She said with a smirk.
“What do you mean ‘oh that’s her name’ you just said you sent me to meet her.”
“Well ok not exactly… I mean I’m good but I’m not THAT good.”
“Oh God, please let me wake up now… I’m ready…time to get up…damn it!”
“Relax… ok I just sent you to New York to look for that fake charm thing, and since you know , you’re a vulnerable good looking guy from a small town… I figured the girls would just eat that up around here. Besides, the only place you’d find some sort of inner peace would be in a hectic crazy place like New York, that’s just who you are. Hey this is like a new gift here, I had to try it out with somebody. It’s kinda cool huh?!”
For a moment, he understood what she had done and was beginning to stop letting his blood pressure rise. For a moment, he felt relieved. For a moment, he realized that because he had someone that cared about him, he was able to meet someone amazing, and get over the issues he had with Maria. But that’s all it was, a moment.
“Izz…” He said, his voice trailing off as his head spun.
“Yeah? Whats the matter with you? You look all pale?”
“The charm… you said you made it up?”
“Yeah, the clues too… took some research to find that hoffee couse place…”
“I saw it.”
“I know you saw it, I gave you the vision… do you have alzheimers?”
“No but right about now I wish I did… I really saw it. Yesterday Desereas friend HANDED it to me. She said she found it in their hotel room. I’d show it to you right now If I was actually awake, but its in the room with me right now!”
“Wait what?!”
“Izz you do not get to start freakin out now, because you’re the one who supposed to have all the answers! You’re the one who started this!”
“I … I don’t get it… I mean I…”
Suddenly their dreamlike conversation was interrupted by an annoying cackling type laughter.
“Oh man… this couldn’t have gone any better if I wanted it to.” Lonnie said still laughing to herself.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Michael asked.
“Why are ya shocked to see me in ya dreams? Ya know that’s where ya like me.”
“Ok what the hell?! This is my dreamwalk, what the hell are you doing here?” Isabel demanded.
“Oh so only you can invade peoples privacy? I have the same power that chu do babe. Only lucky for me I used it the night you gave him the vision. Was kinda bored so I decided to mess around with lil Mikey here.” She said rubbing her fist annoyingly into his hair. He grabbed her hand and pushed her away forcefully without saying a word.
“Mess with him how?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know.”
Isabel waved her hand and pushed her backwards onto the floor without breaking a sweat. Lonnie retorted quickly by getting up and doing the same. As Isabel got up they both waved their hands to hurt each other but fell backwards before moving an inch. Michael had stopped them both. He helped Isabel before she fell but allowed Lonnie to fall back forcefully. He walked over to her and stood above her.
“I always wondered if that whole if you die in your dreams you die in real life thing is true, maybe we can test it out…”
“Aight aight… I knew a jeweler … he made a fake replica of what I drew for him.” Lonnie confessed
Isabel sighed with relief. At least that explained that.
Michaels color began returning to his cheeks and he felt lightheaded.
“Shit he’s waking up…get the hell outta here Lonnie, I don’t want him feeling any weird after effects because the both of us were both still in his head when he wakes up.”
“Eh this party’s dead anyway.” She said getting up and wiping the small scrape on her elbow from the fall. “By the way, I snuck in that charm while you guys were uh… having some fun.”
He was embarrassed for a moment but his anger took over.
“What’s the matter, Rath doesn’t do it for you anymore you have to watch the real deal?” he asked as angry as possible as he began feeling even more lightheaded.
She smiled slyly.
“Peace guys… oh by the way… can’t wait till ya talk to Deserea about HER dream last night.” With that, she was gone.
Before Isabel could respond, Michael had awoken and she was forced back into her room, also awake. She wanted to call, but she felt it better to let him deal with whatever Desereas dream was… and what Lonnie had known about it. She was angry that Lonnie had dreamwalked his possibly new girlfriend but went back to sleep vowing to let him handle it. All in all, it had gone well … putting aside Lonnies lil interference, her plan had worked. She would deal with Lonnie some other time for re-stressing her brotherly nonbrother.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Michael awoke to a very bright early afternoon. The shades to his room let in a bursting amount of sunlight and he squinted in response. Was that dream real?, he thought to himself as he sat up and looked over the now very fake looking charm. Isabel was a keeper. Even though it was a little crazy what she did, it worked out for the best. He had gotten over Maria, came into his own, and met someone great that he had immediate feelings for.
Lonnie on the other hand was not a keeper. He instantly remembered her haunting last words and got dressed quickly. Grabbing his hotel key he opened the door in a jog like speed to get to her hotel room. He was shocked to find her right in front of him, about to knock on his door. Face to face they both looked at each other inquisitively.
“Hey, I was just coming to see you.” He said as a smile formed on his lips. He had trouble looking at her and not smiling.
She looked troubled.
“Can I come in?” Deserea asked.
He motioned for her to come in and they both sat down at the edge of his bed.
“Whats up?” He asked, knowing that it was probably about a dream she had last night.
“This is gonna sound really weird…”
“It’s ok, I’m the mayor of weird…shoot.”
She smiled at his humor.
“Ok well, I had a weird dream last night… I basically was lost or something and then I found you there… but you like started moving things with your hand and it scared me, and then you said to me everyone has secrets…I dunno I woke up and I remembered you being secretive about something and then… well you looked kinda like you saw a ghost when Mandy gave you that charm thing… I sound crazy don’t I? I mean it was a stupid dream, I’ve dreamed weirder things…”
He silently wished this talk was not happening but ignored his own panick. He put his hand on her arm .
“It was just a dream… but there are some things we may need to talk about.”
“May?”
“Well, yea it depends on some things… we may not even have to talk about it at all..”
“Well what would it depend on? I mean I’m kinda intrigued now, you can’t just say nevermind we don’t need to talk about it.” She said with a nervous smile.
“Ok… I know this is relatively soon… and that we just met… and I can’t believe I’m asking this…”
“Oh my god just spit it out you’re making me nervous!” she demanded.
“…I… I kinda need to know if you’re interested in being with me.”
Her tense muscles quickly relaxed.
“Geez that’s it? I thought you were gonna tell me you’re a wizard or something with magical powers.” She said laughing loudly.
He grimaced at how close she really was and his heart immediately started beating faster.
“Well… no… not a wizard…and you didn’t answer my question… It’s something I just need to know… do you think you could ever consider going out with me?”
She put her hand on his arm.
“Absolutely. I haven’t felt so close to anyone as I feel to you and we only just recently met. I mean I won’t go so far as saying marriage with 3 kids and a house in…”
“Ok… that was pretty good… I lasted over 5 syllables with the future talk, but that’s all I can handle… I’m not good with the future stuff.”
“Got it, you’re a guy.”
“Exactly.”
“So ok, does me wanting to continue whatever it is we’re doing, mean we DO and not MAY need to talk about SOMETHING?!”
“Yea it kinda does… I’m just trying to figure out how.”
She saw the nervousness that was written clear upon his face and wished there was something she could do or say to help him open up to her. At the very same time she also wanted to bolt towards the door in fear of whatever it was he couldn’t bring himself to say. Was he bi? Was he a psycho? Does he have a bag of hair in his closet that he kept from all his dates? Maybe a foot fetish? A Red Sox problem like Jimmy Fallon had in the movie ‘Fever Pitch’?… her thoughts were interrupted as he began to speak.
“Ok…at the risk of sounding like every main guy in all chick flicks… I’m not what you think I am… and when I tell you… it can either bring us closer… freak you out… or cause you to get me in a massive amount of trouble if this doesn’t go well… so you can see my problem here.”
She though about it for a moment. Not what I think he is? She didn’t know that much about him to assume things that would be a catastrophe of knowledge. She couldn’t fathom what it could be.
“Well… I haven’t really made my mind up about you enough to be shocked by anything you tell me…”
He couldn’t stifle his snicker.
“Would you stop making a face or noise or whatever it is you end up doing when I say things like that.” She insisted.
“I would If I could… but if I do confide in you… you’ll see why what you said is so funny to me.”
Deserea looked towards the window for a moment and made a choice. There were only two options, hear what he had to say, or not hear it. Supposedly whatever she was about to hear was a gigantic secret…but she liked him, and didn’t care. She made a choice. The only choice someone like her would make.
“I wanna know. Tell me.”
Her voice was sincere and he was a man of impulsive.
He searched the room with his eyes and found a an item small enough to put in her hand.
“Here, gimme your hand.” He said holding his hand out for hers.
She looked at him inquisitively and put her hand in his. He placed the small fake tulip bud from the vase next to him into her hand. She looked at it and then back at him.
“Your secret is that you’re really into flowers?”
She smiled. With a gentle wave of his hand he changed the fake tulip into a real one. The stem lengthened and the color changed from pink to purple. The smell of the flower permeated the room.
Her eyes widened but she was still confused.
“Ok you’re a really good magician? You’re a big dork and really into Houdini stuff? You are a real Harry Potter? Oh my god you ARE a wizard?!”
He laughed loudly at her guesses.
“Don’t laugh at me I’m just confused!” She said with just a loud a laugh as his.
“Ok ok I’m sorry… listen theres no nice way to explain that, so I’m just gonna say it. If it freaks you out and you can’t handle it, just please back out of the room, go on with your life and forget this ever happened. I don’t want you thinking I’m a freak that’s out to get you or something.”
“Tell me, and whatever it is, I won’t be backing out of this room.”
He sighed loudly and then blurted it out.
“I’m an alien… half actually. I can move objects and change shapes yada yada yada. It’s not something I like going around telling people, because I’d like to stay alive and I know pretty much nothing about the part of me everyone wants to know ALL about. Um yea that pretty much covers it.”
Her face formed an expression he couldn’t read.
“Are you ok?”
“I think so… that was pretty much nothing of what I expected. I mean what? You’re…you’re a what?! Are you lying to me cuz I swear to…”
“No… I’m not lying. Look.” He said pointing to the curtains, which he had changed from yellow to green and back again.
She gasped.
“I…I’m not scared… I’m just… I’m just shocked...” she said trying to compose herself. It was definitely the oddest conversation she’d ever had. Yet, because it was him, she still felt safe. This under any other circumstances would probably have sent her running out that hotel so fast they’d find skid marks… but it was him. She was completely in awe of him. There was just that certain something they shared that could never be put into words.
He felt queasy and instantly regretted ruining what they had so soon.
“I’m sorry, just forget it… I didn’t mean to…”
She silenced him with a soft kiss.
“I said I was shocked… I didn’t say I was going anywhere.” She said sweetly.
He instantly looked relieved.
“But hold on there buddy don’t look all out of the woods now… I need more information.”
He laughed. “Ok, this could take a while.”
“I’ve got time.”

Hours later
They hadn’t moved from that spot in hours. They weren’t hungry and they weren’t anything but completely enraptured in their conversation. He left out the whole Lonnie and doubles part for a later day…it was already too much info for a mere mortal… for a mere anyone actually. She took everything in and responded sincerely. He couldn’t help but wonder if this was how Max and Liz felt when he told her. He had never actually told anyone before… Maria had already known.
“So…” He said awkwardly after their talk.
“So…nothing… you’re a hot alien hybrid, who isn’t?” She joked.
“You’re amazing, but you know that don’t you.”
“Eh it’s hard to miss.”
As his smile faded, he looked at her intensely.
“You cant tell anyone… anyone… it could mean my life…”
“I know… and I won’t… wow, I can’t imagine how it must feel to be you…. or the rest of you guys…”
“Well you will now… just being around me puts you at risk… It’s the only reason I wanted to hold back the truth. Well that and the fact that I’m not much of a sharing feelings kinda guy...”
“I’m gonna be sticking around regardless so if I’m gonna be in any danger I’d like to be informed.” She said with a feather light kiss to his lips. He kissed her back intently.
After a moment Michael pulled away gently. “ I can get into this real fast so if you’re hungry or something say it now or forever hold your…” he started as she kissed him back with a beaming smile.
After a moment he pulled away again to speak.
“Do aliens not like kissing?” she asked exasperatedly.
“No… I just wanna make sure you’re ok with this.”
She looked at him fixedly and reached down at his shirt and pulled it over his head in a fluidic motion. His smooth skin looked radiant against the exposed sunlight that had crept through the windows.
“I’m fine… now start kissing me before I’m not fine.”
He forcefully grabbed the side of her face and brought her lips to his. All his inhibitions were gone and he could think only of his body with hers at this moment in time.
His bare skin was smooth and masculine over hers and her hands roamed his upper body freely as their kiss deepened.
Neither of them had ever been more turned on by anyone else and their kiss had become fiery and passionate.
He pulled her top over her head and kissed the archway between her breasts as she unclasped her bra. He tossed it away quickly as his lips returned to hers, using his expert hands over her breasts, cupping them and caressing them. Her hands reached for his belt buckle frantically and undid the zipper of his jeans. She felt his hardness against her and found herself pulling onto his hair so hard that their kiss had become more important than breathing. She moaned into his mouth as one of his hands continued to circle her breasts while the other undid her jeans.
He had every intention of pleasuring her in every way possible, touching her entire body and satisfying her completely if not a few times before himself… but she was too far gone for that.
He had tried slowing their pace and focusing on her body but she continued to grip tightly onto his waist, willing him to fill her urgently. She writhed against his body and her motions were so sexily driven that he couldn’t hold back much longer himself.
Her lips tore from his violently.
“Michael…” she breathed loudly. “Please…”
“Not so much for the foreplay huh?” he asked playfully.
“I can’t… please…”
He had never been one to give in to begging but under the circumstances this kind of begging was A Ok with him.
He removed her jeans completely and touched and kissed her hips and inner thighs before removing her underwear.
“Oh God… Michael please…”
That was all he needed to hear. He applied a condom and lowered onto her. When his bare chest came into contact with hers, he inserted himself into her slowly, filling her completely and watched as she gasped with pleasure. Her back arched and her neck stretched back naturally. With expert control he slowly slid out of her and back into her again…and again…and again…and again…and again, until the slow hard motion was too much for her. She grabbed onto his back as he finally ended torturing her and picked up his pace. The feeling of him entering and reentering her was more intense than anything she’d ever felt and she reveled in the pleasure.
For what felt like hours he thrusted into her with a commanding intensity. Looking down at her face he saw her nearing completion, unable to moan, unable to speak.
He waited skillfully and came with her powerfully.
They laid that way for a moment, before she kissed him sweetly and he rolled over to her side. She curled up next to him and laid her head on his chest. Michael stroked her hair gently. They didn’t speak, there was nothing to say. They had said everything there was to say with their bodies. It was in that moment they both knew they were with the person they had waited their whole life unknowingly to meet.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
After getting dressed and spending the day together, Michael and Deserea had gone back to their rooms to change before seeing each other again that night for a real date. She knew what she could and could not tell her friend, and he trusted her. She told Mandy all the good stuff and she told her all the good stuff she had missed about her day with Jeff.
Michael called Isabel the second he got to his room and told her everything… well not everything.
“Michael that’s awesome!” She gushed into the phone.
“Yea… I’m gonna go with her tomorrow to book a flight back with her for a week or two, see how things go. Who knows, maybe I’ll be a Californian soon.”
“Hmm.. I dunno If I can picture you under that much sun…”
“Me neither.” He responded with a laugh. “But we’ll work out the whole long distance thing… just don’t tell anyone yet that I told her everything… I don’t need and unnecessary drama right now.”
“Wow, you really did a 180 over there. No unnecessary drama? Who are you? What have you done with Michael the king of unnecessary drama?”
“Ha Ha.” He said sarcastically. “ But yea, I’m really happy right now… she means more than I … I cant even say it… I’m just so happy…for once.”
Isabel smiled and felt a happy tear.
“… my only concern right now is Lonnie… that stupid bitch, if she lays a hand…”
“Hey, don’t worry about her… I’ve gotten that under control.”
“Control?, Izz what did you do?”
“Just sent her a little present is all.” She smirked into the receiver.

That Afternoon
Lonnie sat down on the broken down cushion-less couch and spread out tiredly.
“Yo that box on the table is for you.” Raths voice bellowed from across the room over the loud music.
She grabbed the box and opened it. The force of her opening the odd squishy package caused the brown liquid that inhabited the box to squirt all over her face and arms. She blew it off her mouth and with a look of disgust reached for the laminated note that had been floating inside the mud.
Lonnie,
There was no real reason for the mud, just that I knew it would be funny to have seen your face excited to receive something and then get squirted with mud. I know I know, I’m not there how could I even get the satisfaction of seeing it? Well look around for Rath, he’s most likely just taken your picture like I asked him to and is on his way to the mailbox. He didn’t really care about our stupid argument but jumped at the chance to see you miserable. Nice boyfriend. Anyhow, I’ll enjoy that picture of you, and I hope you enjoyed looking like the pig you are. Leave us alone, don’t even try to dream walk any of us or the next package you’ll be receiving will be me personally kicking your ass.
Enjoy the rest of your day,
Isabel

Enjoy the rest of your day,
Isabel
The End!
Hope you all liked it, feedback is ALWAYS appreciated!
