Title: Alien Husbandry
Disclaimer:The characters of "Roswell" belong to Jason Katims, Melinda Metz, WB, and UPN. They are not mine. If I did, Zan wouldn't have died. It would have been a good day. I do own Seki and anyone he brings to the table. I don't know why that scares me on multi levels.
Pairing: Zan/Liz
Rating: Teen
Summary: Zan and Liz go to the Dr's to check on Liz's pregnancy.
Author's Note: This is a THANK YOU!!! to Forever Dreamer. Yep this is a fic for her. She's been with me since the beginning. She was one of the first Feedback I ever got on Domestication of Zan. And I realized last night, that I need to show her how much that support means to me. I mean she even read the Kyle/Ava fic because it was DoZ. Rach, This fic is for you!!! I'm forever grateful that you've commented on every fic I've written in the Roswell Universe.
Rach, I hope this is soon enough for you, and long enough.
Thank you to my betas; Burningchaos, and KiaraAlexisKlay.
The fics before this one are The Marrying Kind, Who Says Romance Is Dead?, Transmogrification and Spaceman Spiff, Drinking Thinking, This Is Why Parties Have Strippers, It's A Nice Day for A White Wedding, Married Life is Just Another Word for Sexual Frustration, The Changing Shape of Alien Sex, Dirty Little Secret and Bonding Through Fear with the side note of Kyle/Ava's adventure Good Things Come in Twos.

Zan sat in the waiting room, scared out of his mind. The doctor’s office didn’t scare him like say, Alien Hunters did. It terrified him.

Liz patted his leg. “It’ll be ok.”

Zan leaned down and places his lips to Liz’s ear. “So’s ya say. You’s aren’t being eyed like an ‘All You Can Eat’ at’s a Fat Farm. You’d dink they’d never seen a man before. I means dey got dat way for a reason.” Zan looked around the room at the pregnant women staring at him. “Don’ts let me go.” Zan whispered.

“Seki said this is the only doctor that can deal in our condition.” Liz whispered back.

“Who’s he?” Zan whispered, blushing as another pregnant woman sighed. “Seriously, dey lookin’ at me likes meat. Dey lookin’ likes Seki looks at Jockstrap.”

“That’s because you are handsome, sexy as hell, and very, very married.” Liz laughed softly. “Doctor Beowulf is married to Seki’s protector. He is the best person for interspecies relations.”

“Back dat up!” Zan yelped.

The other women in the room blinked in surprise at Zan’s outburst. “If it ain’t his, hunny, you ain’t supposed to tell him.” An older woman spoke, shaking her head in disgust.

“It’s mine.” Zan growled, a hand covered Liz’s stomach. “Dis is one on one time. You’s not peanut gallery.”

The nurse took that time to come out, “Elizabeth Antar?”

Liz rolled her eyes as Zan helped her stand up. “That’s me.” She walked behind the nurse.

“You don’t need to come in.” The nurse looked over at Zan, who growled again.

“He’s slightly protective. Anything the doctor has to say to me, he can say to Zan.” Liz shook her head, as she laced her fingers through Zan’s.

“Okay.” The nurse shrugged and motioned to for Liz to get on the scale. As Liz let go of Zan and stepped on the scale, the nurse noted the weight, and walked to an open door. “You’re going to be in here. I need to take you temperature, and blood pressure.”

Zan walked behind Liz and found a small chair in the corner of the room. He sat down, after helping Liz onto the examination table. From his chair, he watched as the nurse checked Liz’s blood pressure and temperature.

“Doctor Beowulf will be back here shortly.” The nurse wrote a few more items down, and closed the door as she walked out.

“Well’s someone pissed in her wheaties.” Zan snarled at the door.

“Zan, be nice. She’s probably used to pregnant women who don’t have their baby’s daddy around.” Liz smiled from the examination table.

“Why’s Seki gotta protector?” Zan decided to ask the question that bothered him the most. “He’s not like da head princie.”

“No, but Jade is the oldest girl. Her planet is matriarchal, so really, Seki could never be King.” Liz started to explain.

“How’s Mickey takin’ dat?” Zan shook his head. “He’s fuckin’ dat almost queen.”

“They are dating, and she’s already explained that when her mother steps down as Queen, she’s abdicating the crown to her sisters. The twins that were at our wedding are going to be reining jointly over Saulontz.” Liz shrugged. “He seems fine with it. Well, once he freaked out about dating the crowned princess.”

“How’s you know all dis?” Zan looked confused.

“I talk to Seki. He’s a fountain of information, most of it useless, but a fountain nonetheless.” Liz laughed.

A knock startled the couple out of their moment. “Are we all decent?” A rich voice rang from the other side of the door.

“Yes.” Liz said in an amused but exasperated tone.

A tall, handsome man with startling purple eyes walked in. A hand threaded through his light brown hair as he closed the door. “Sorry, I’ve been hearing tales about you two from Seki.”

“And you trusted them?” Liz rolled her eyes as she smirked.

“No, but I figured that it’s always good to make sure everyone’s decent before walking into a room. Seki says you’re human and Zan, here, is Antarian?” Beowulf smiled comfortingly.

“Dat’s right. But Angel was changed slightly. She’s got powers.” Zan spoke up, his arms crossed. He wasn’t sure he liked how this doctor was looking at his wife.

Beowulf nodded. “According to Seki, they immerge when Liz is stressed.” He looked at Liz. “I want you to take off school for the rest of the pregnancy.”

Zan nodded. “I’s told her dat.”

Liz nodded. “I’ve already pulled out of my classes for next semester. I just finished classes, so I’m free. I am trying to keep unstressed.”

Opening the file, Beowulf quickly read the notes. “Liz, other then that little problem with the powers, you seem to be in perfect health and weight for being second trimester.” He looked over at Liz. “Have you been to a doctor for your pregnancy before me?”

“No, but I picked up over the counter prenatal vitamins, and reading a lot.” Liz bit her lip.

“Well you’re doing a great job. I think we’ll do an ultrasound and see how the little one is doing.” Beowulf nodded. “According to Seki, you’re going to have a girl. Let’s see if he’s right.”

“How’s Seki know?” Zan spoke carefully, while still trying to look intimating.

“Well, it’s a thing with Saulontzs. They can read the DNA of single celled organisms. At least that’s what my wife tells me.” Beowulf mused.

Zan could feel the tension ease a little. He knew that tone of voice. It was a tone he used when talking about something Liz told him. It was a loving, but mocking tone. “You’s not Saulontzs?”

“Nope, I’m Dracotain.” Beowulf laughed. “That’s why I’m probably the best person for your pregnancy. I had to deal with Alena’s pregnancy.”

“Alena is your wife?” Liz looked hopeful.

“My beloved.” Beowulf had a soft smile on his face as he mentioned her. He looked embarrassed as he realized the look on his face. “Let’s get the ultrasound done. And then you can take pictures home with you.”

Beowulf walked out, and a few minutes later a nurse came in to get Liz ready for the ultrasound. She was handed a hospital gown, and asked to strip and put it on. The nurse looked over at Zan, as if to tell him to get out.

“I’s was dere for da making’s. Der is nothin’ I’s hasn’t seen on her.” Zan rolled his eyes as he waved the nurse out.

Liz rolled her eyes as she closed the door. “I’m not stripping for you. I’m taking off my clothes and putting on the gown.”

“I’s got singles.” Zan whined.

“You can be such an asshole. We really need to cut down your play time with Kyle.” Liz laughed as she shook her head.

Zan pouted as Liz quickly changed into the gown.

“I am a little confused. I read that I would have to drink a lot of water for the ultrasound to work.” Liz got back onto the examination table, with Zan’s help.

A knock interrupted Zan before he could say anything.

“We’s good.” Zan decided to not wait for Beowulf to ask.

Beowulf walked in with a small device in his hand. “This little device is going to show us your lovely son or daughter.” He waved device slightly. “Dracotain technology is the best, and I figured that since Liz probably hasn’t drunk around eight glasses of water that we couldn’t to do the human version. Besides, this gives us a better picture.”

“Do’s all Dracotains babble dis much?” Zan raised an eyebrow.

“I have to make up for the fact that Alena almost doesn’t talk at all.” Beowulf laughed. “Now, on with the show.” He pointed the device at Liz’s stomach as a picture of a small fetus appeared. The picture was about the size of a nineteen inch TV screen, and very detailed.

It reminded Liz of those commercials for the 4D ultrasounds. Her fingers laced through Zan’s, as he squeezed slightly. Both looked in awe of the baby they had created.

“Seki’s right. You’re having a girl. Congratulations. Don’t tell Seki, he’ll be a pain to be around for at least a month.” Beowulf hit a button and a whooshing sound started. “She’s got a great heartbeat too.” Beowulf smiled, and patted Zan’s arm. “I’m going to download this to my computer. I’ll be back in a moment with a DVD, and some pictures.” Beowulf turned off the device, and started to walk out.

“Thanks.” Zan nodded, as his eyes stared at where the screen had been, his voice filled with awe.

“This is why I became a doctor.” Beowulf nodded to Liz, before walking out.

“She’s beautiful, Zan.” Liz smiled bringing their entwined fingers to her lips. “We made a gorgeous little girl. Now we can even take photos to my Dad, Philip and Diane. They’ve been hounding me for something since we told them about the baby.”

“Do we’s gotta? Can’t we’s pretend dat we hasn’t gone?” Zan whined softly, his gaze resting on Liz’s belly. “She’s pretty. I’s going ta have ta locks her up though. She’s going to be sexy like her momma. And none of da boy allowed dat.”

“Ava and Kyle have an appointment next week. We’ll find out if you have to save your daughter’s virtue from their son or not.” Liz sat up, and got off the table. “I need to get dressed.”

Zan let go of Liz’s hand long enough for her to dress. He stared at her in wonder that this woman had not only married him, but was having his daughter. “I’s got lucky,” his voice soft, and barely audible.

Liz smoothed her shirt down, as there was a knock at the door. “Come in.”

Beowulf walked in, holding pictures and a CD case. “These are for you.” He handed them to Zan. “And I’ll see you in a few weeks. I want to keep up these visits to make sure everything is progressing in an orderly fashion.”

“Thanks, Doc.” Zan shook Beowulf’s hand.

Liz shook Beowulf’s hand as well, as she thanked him. “We’ll see you in a few weeks.”

Zan took Liz’s hand as they walked out of the doctor’s office. A soft smile rested on both of their faces, as Zan clutched the DVD and photos in the other hand.
