Chpt 3
Once they were on the road, Liz watched Max from the corner of her eye. "So, what's the plan Evans? You take me out to some dangerous abandoned highway, make me joy ride the whole place and then get caught by some bastard cop who hates law breakers?".
Max smirked. "Something even better."
Liz rolled her eyes. "Don't worry, I'm always ready."
Suddenly on the radio, one of her favourite songs started to play.
As much as I love you
As much as I need you
And I can't stand you
Must everything you do make me wanna smile
Can I not like you for awhile?
Liz toyed with the buttons oh her denim jacket. God, she always sang to this song. How could she embarrass herself further by singing in front of the man she despised?
You wont let me
You upset me girl
And then you kiss my lips
All of a sudden I forgive (that I was upset)
Can't remember what you did
Max purposely requested this song by his favourite station at this specific time. He owed Maria and Michael a big thanks. Now Liz Parker was going to be experiencing his kind of revenge. Oh sweet sweet revenge indeed.
But I hate...
You know exactly what to do
So that I cant stay mad at you
For too long thats wrong
But I hate...
You know exactly how to touch
So that I dont want to fuss.. and fight no more
Said I despise that i adore you
Liz tried to concentrate on looking at the road while driving.
And i hate how much i love you boy (yeah...)
I cant stand how much I need you (I need you...)
"Make sure you're calm Liz." Max told her. "Keep your feet in sync with the brakes. Let the music calm your nerves."
And I hate how much I love you boy (oooh whoa..)
But I just cant let you go
And I hate that I love you so (oooh..)
Liz gripped the steering wheel tighter as she tried to follow Max's commands. Every time she ended up behind the wheel she was so nervous she ended up failing her previous classes and almost knocked someone over.
One of these days maybe your magic wont affect me
And your kiss wont make me weak
But no one in this world knows me the way you know me
So you'll probably always have a spell on me...
Liz reached the gear stick and his hand rested on top of hers. A burning sensation shot up from her arm and towards her stomach. Her breathing became heavier. She loved his touch so much. If only he knew that.
As much i love you (as much as I need you)
As much as I need you (oooh..)
As much I love you (oh..)
As much as I need you
Max gave her a reassuring smile while she took her eyes off the road to see. God, those amber eyes...
"Liz, keep your eyes on the road!". Max raised his voice and Liz looked back only to slam her foot down on the brakes before screaming.

Liz groaned into a air bag which she found herself waking up in. She sat up and saw Max throwing the broken glass off his shirt.
"Where are we?". She coughed, smelling the smoke and dirt. She could hear a sizzling noise and it didn't take her long to work out that it was dark.
"Liz, you should have kept your eyes on the road." Max said. "Now it looks like we're stuck somewhere underground."
"Holy mother of jesus!". Liz exclaimed. "Underground?". She tried to open her door but it would budge. "Max...we can't be underground." She panicked, looking in front of her, seeing the cracked window screen.
"You so owe me a new car when we get out of here." Max opened his door. "Be careful Liz, the rocks might fall on you. Get out my way." He crawled out of the car.
Liz crawled out after him with his help and almost screamed when she saw her bloody hands. "Max! I'm bleeding!.." She screamed and then looked at his face. "Max you're bleeding!".
"Liz keep your voice down, the vibration of your voice might put us in danger." Max hissed and went towards the back of the car. He inspected the area around the car, working out if it was safe to open the boot. When he concluded it was safe, he opened the boot and took out two flashlights. He handed one to Liz.
"Here you go. We'll have to find a way out."
"Why not just get out the way we came in from?". Liz shrugged.
"Because..when you smashed the car into this dark hole, you kept on driving until the wheels busted." Max snapped. "Besides, it looks like we're caved in thanks to you."
"Oh yeah, blame it on me Mr asshole." Liz shot back. "You're the one who kept distracting me."
"Distraction's going to occur in the field." He retorted. "You just can't handle it Parker."
"See...this is why I knew going out with you was such a bad idea. You can't even leave me in peace."
"If I left you in peace, you would have been more hurt by now then you already are."
"Well I think it's safer to be away from you then to be with you." She snapped.
The two stood there and started to bicker, blaming each other and fighting about whose fault it was that they were down here.
"Listen, let's just share the blame and work together to find a way out." Max said, finally calling a truce.
"You knew that song would distract me." Liz muttered, finally letting Max lead the way as they walked down the narrow dark passageway.
"I know." Max admitted. "And I'm sorry."
Liz bit her lip and wondered if this could be Max's plan. That he causes her to have an accident and make them end up here.
She remembered his words.
Something better.
No, as annoying Max could be, he could never plan this.
She shuddered and then stepped over something which felt hard underneath her sneakers. She froze and so did Max. "Maax.." Her eyes were wide. Max turned back to see her and then they both looked down to see Liz stepping on some hard white thing.
Liz lifted her foot away from it and screamed. "Oh my god...I just stepped on a dead person!". She ran to Max, clutching his shirt for dear life.
"It's not a dead person." Max shone the light over the spare piece of bone. "It's just a bone."
"A dead person's bone!". Liz cried. "We're gunna die here Max." Liz sobbed into his shirt. "We're going to end up like that."
"No we're not. And that's probably an animal bone that a dog left here." Max said.
Liz released him and felt something else hard under her sneakers. "Oh no not again.." She shone her flashlight down on the tracks.
"This must be a mine." Max concluded, shining his light over the couple of yellow helmets on the ground. "But they abandoned this mine back in ninety fifty nine because it was very dangerous."
Liz sighed.
"Great going Max."
***
"Liz..are you okay?". Max held a shivering Liz close to his body. They had found themselves getting more and more colder as they tried to search for a way out. They had tried to call for help but it was of no use.
They had no signal to use their cell phones and their screams of help could not be heard. The ground was too thick to let their muffled cries be heard. After a long time parading around, they collapsed into a corner, huddled next to each other.
Liz was the coldest. Max used his body to cover her smaller one. She nuzzled his neck, feeling the warm pulse under his skin. "Max, don't let me go."
"It's going to be okay" Max promised, kissing her forehead and rubbing her hands, saving her from the ice cold.
"I'm sorry Max." Liz flicked her eyes up at him. Never in her life would she ever apologise to Max Evans out of all people but now she didn't care if she looked stupid, she wanted him to know the truth even if it meant looking ridiculous. She needed him to know..
"For what?". A dumbfounded Max asked, stroking her cheek.
"For being such a mega bitch to you." Liz whispered and leaned into Max's caresses. "I want to apologise for all the times I put mustard in your sneakers, stuck pins in your trousers, deleted your homework and even slipped dog biscuits in your sandwich."
Max chuckled. "As much as you were infuriatingly annoying, I kind of liked it".
"Huh?".
"I mean, come on. Everyone thinks I'm hot and they want in my pants but you. You stand your ground and you don't throw yourself at me or anyone else like a dog in heat and I actually like that about you." Max admitted. "Although you were a pain in the ass but I can't say I was less either. I mean, I did play some silly pranks on you too."
"Like turning my white dress pink in the wash." Liz laughed.
"My bad." Max blushed and then remembered a certain memory which he cherished forever. "Remember the time when we all went to Turkey?".
"Fourteen months ago? Right?". Liz remembered. She was seventeen and such a spoilt brat back then, even worse than she was now.
"And you wore that gold beaded dress?
"That was my favourite dress." Liz smiled. Her mother had gifted her that dress and she loved it so much she had brought three more.
"That was my favorite too." Max said. " I couldn't stop staring at you all day and night. It was designed to fit you." He whispered in her ear.
"Wait...you liked the dress on me Max?". Liz wondered and then it dawned on her, after months of trying to impress him, she actually had done so. "So it impressed you huh?".
"You're always beautiful Liz. But that dress was begging me to take it o-" Max stopped and blushed when he realised what he was saying. Was he about to give Liz his lustful confessions right now when they were in such a compromising position and trapped in a very very overbearingly cold mine?
"Take if off me?". Liz finished for him in a husky whisper. "Why didn't you? I was alone all night.."
"Liz." Max growled.
"I spent so many days naked and wet in the bathtub, fantasising about you slipping inside equally aroused and naked.." Liz shut her eyes and leaned against Max. "You have no idea how hard it's been to hate you and love you at the same time."
"Believe me.." Max added in a husky whisper. "I know exactly how that feels."
Liz shifted in Max lap so she was straddling him and facing him. "Max.." She took hold of his shoulders. They both were quite injured and she never thought about this but it seemed like a very great dying wish to her. "Lets make love."
"Huh?". Now Max was surprised. Not that he didn't dream of making love to Liz Parker over and over again but the idea of making love to her in his cold horrible gritty mine when they were almost dying didn't strike him at all.
"We don't have much time and I'd rather spend my last moments doing what I failed to do in my life." Liz ran her fingers through his thick dark hair. "Which is making love with you". She added softly. "I love you Max."
"I love you too Liz." Max admitted his true feelings before Liz brought her lips closer to his and kissed him.
Oh god, Liz Parker had finally admitted to wanting to make love with him and now was making out with him. He responded to the kiss, rubbing his hands up and down her back and pushing her closer to him while he made love with her mouth, something he would die for.
Liz parted their lips away and he kiss down the side of her jaw and neck as she tilted her head back, moaning at the sensation. "Oh Max.." God, his lips felt so good on her neck...She wondered how they'd feel someplace else.
Then a voice echoed out from nowhere.
"Hello is anyone down there?!".
