Disclaimer: Although the characters do not belong to me (and we all know to whom they do belong), this idea does belong to my subconscious, as it was actually a dream that I had few years ago (but with my best friend and I in the starring roles).
Author's Note: This is my first ever fanfiction and as I said in my disclaimer, it is barely that. But I felt like a little posting something different and so...well, here ya go! Any FB would be appreciated, although I'll be the first one to admit that I have no where near the talent of others on this board!

There’s nothing half so sweet in life as love’s young dream.

~Daydream~
He entered the room quietly, careful not spill the hot cocoa he brought in on a tray. The room was warm—a sharp contrast to the world outside. Though barely November, the wind was brisk. But today the sun shown brightly, making the room very inviting. She had curled up in the oversized chair to read a book. That’s where he found her, fast asleep, her book still open on her lap. They’d been friends for years. Distance had separated them for a long time. This visit had been planned for months.
He went and knelt in front of her, intending to take her book and cover her with a blanket. It was at that moment the sun shone in, illuminating her hair and face in a heavenly glow. “She’s so beautiful”, he thought. A single wisp of hair fell across her face. He reached up to move the strand away from her face. The slight movement awoke her and her eyes slowly fluttered open.
She opened her mouth to question him. He silenced her, placing a finger upon her lips. So soft. He lightly traced the outline of her lips with his finger. He moved his hand and brushed his fingers across her cheek, then cupped the side of her face with his hand. Ever so slowly he leaned in to kiss her. He pressed his lips to hers and she swore she felt tiny sparks explode along every inch their bodies touched. He pulled away—“too soon”, she thought. Eyes still closed from the kiss, her hand touched her lips.
“Am I dreaming?” she asked, voice barely above a whisper.
“I wish it was that easy” he said, mostly to himself. He moved to stand across the room from her, his back facing her.
“Something’s not right…” she mumbled to herself as she stood up and walked over to him.
“Alex?” she prompted as she placed a hand on his arm.
“I’m sorry Isabel…this shouldn’t have happened…”
“What shouldn’t have happened…me coming here or you kissing me?”
“Isabel…” he started.
”No. No, don’t answer. Either way I don’t want to hear the answer.” She interrupted. “Maybe I should just leave…” she said and walked over to get her book from the chair where she’d laid it.
“Wait—don’t go.” He said and grabbed her upper arm, spinning her around to face him.
“I’m doing this all wrong.” He whispered to himself. “Isabel…you once asked me to define ‘love’, remember? I told you there are many kinds of love: the love we have for our favorite things, for a show, for our family…friends. You are my best friend. I couldn’t ask for more. I never wanted anything more…” he trailed off, and his eyes searched hers, willing her to understand.
“What are you trying to say Alex?”
He raked a hand through his hair and sighed. How to explain?
“I came in and you were just sitting there and the sun shown in and you were so beautiful…” he rambled.
She blushed and looked downward at his compliment. “Yeah, right…” she muttered under her breath.
“No, don’t do that.” He lifted her chin with his hand. “You are beautiful Isabel; don’t you know that? How any man could let you go—how I could be so blind…” He took a deep breath.
“I lied to you. When you asked me about love. I didn’t understand my feelings then. But now, seeing you here, then…I understand now.” He took both her hands in his. “I’m in love with you, sweet Princess…I love you!”
She thought her heart had stopped beating. Surely she was still sleeping. Or maybe she really had died? Had he just said the words she’d longed to hear for years? She stood there looking up at him in shock.
“Isabel?”
She threw her arms around his neck and embraced him.
“I love you, too! I have for a long time now!”
He pulled away from her to look into her eyes. He wiped away the few tears that had fallen. “Shh. Don’t cry Princess…don’t cry.”
“Isabel, may I kiss you?”
“ I thought you’d never ask.” She smiled.
And they kissed. A kiss so gentle and full of passion it nearly took her breath away. When the kiss did end he asked if she’d stay after all.
“Always.” she said. “Always.”
