Chapter One: A Queens Duty
Candles flickered in the wind as rain hit the stain glass window pains causing them to shutter as lightening flashed out side. Inside the empty dimly lit chapel a woman paced back and forth.
"I fear something is coming" She whispered as she ran her hands over each other in a nervous gesture.
"Something my Queen? Like what?" the voice of a man asked from a near by pew. "I am not sure but something terrible." She said as she stopped pacing and looked out the window.
"You are tired my Queen a good nights rest will do you well. This fear is nothing you can't handle." The man said softy.
"Oh Alex you are a good friend of mine. But this is something you would not understand. I am a Queen who has the world at her figure tips I can destroy lands and create kingdoms with just the flick of my wrist.
I should be happy but I am not. For I have all of this power except for the greatest power of all." The queen sighed as she looked at her friend.
"The greatest power my lady?" Alex said questing his friend’s motives.
"Love. I have never known love. Oh you think this is silly me a Queen not know Love. My people love me, my castle adores me, and yet this is not the love I seek or want." She said as she sat down in the pew next to Alex.
"All my life I have been alone. I never knew my parents they died before I could remember them. So I have grown up destined to fulfill my duties as a Queen yet never allowed to see the world and seek it is that I want." The Queen said sighing as she looked at the glowing candles.
"Now I fear it is too late. I feel a change in the wind and this upsets me. Something is wrong with the balance." She said her voice soft and vacant.
"My Lady. You are loved. This is just a passing feeling you have. You are upset because of the storm nothing more my Elizabeth." Alex said trying to comfort his friend.
Elizabeth smiled but felt a hollowness in her heart for how could her friend know the love she sought and the fear that was pulsating through her body as she looked into his eyes.
"Queen Elizabeth, Sir Alexander you must come at once!" a knight said as he entered into the chapel. "Quickly" he said as the three made their way towards the entrance of the castle.
A man dressed in a hooded cloak emerged soaking wet with a look of madness and distress in his eyes as he sat there hunched over. "My Queen please help me. My kingdom is in its darkest hour. There was a great battle. I saw firers, I heard screaming, even death..." The man said his voice hallow his eyes glassy. "Please help me." he begged.
"How did your kingdom fall?" Elizabeth said softly as she crouched down looking at the dark haired amber eyed man before her feet.
"The Rebel alliance is broken. It is no more." he said distressed.
"The Rebel Alliance broken but how?" Elizabeth said trying to come to terms with the information she just had heard.
"Kivar" The man as if he had just drunken poison said as the name echoed in the darkness.
"Kivar. I see. I shall try to do anything in my power to keep you and your people safe. As long as I am living you have an ally in us." Elizabeth said softly looking into the stranger’s eyes of the broken and distressed king in front of her.
"Thank you" The man said softly.
"Tell me good sir what is your name." Elizabeth said softly as she looked into the stranger’s eyes.
"King Maxwell Zander of Antar. And you are?" he said looking up at her.
"Queen Elizabeth of Roseoline" She said.
"Thank you Queen Elizabeth. I am forever in your dept." Maxwell said softly.
Liz nodded in approval and then looked at her guards. "Guards please see to it that King Maxwell is taken care of. You can stay as long as you like." Elizabeth said smiling.
"Thank you my Queen" Maxwell said as he bowed before her before being escorted away.
Liz sighed hoping the stranger would gain some comfort and be able to sleep through the night.
