Raising Liz Evans (AU, Mature) Complete

Post by SpiderGirl »

Title: Raising Liz Evans
Author: SpiderGirl
Disclaimer: I own nothing, except a forum I can't even get off the ground!
Summary: It's inspired by a film called Jack and Sarah. Oh and I do warn you, for this to work Liz Parker has to die. Now you Tess loving people, don't expect her to be in this story just because Liz isn't!
Coupling: Max and Liz but it's not really going to be about couples.
Rating: Like I said Liz is going to die so it's going to be a little sad and heavy. Mature at most, if it goes over that I'll let you know.

***

He carried the last box into the apartment and smiled at his young wife sitting on some of the boxes
"Damn you're beautiful" he whispered, she turned her head startled
"Max!" she chuckled "Come here, you can see all of Roswell from here it's beautiful" she said. He put the box over and sat down beside her
"No where near as beautiful as my view" he whispered staring intently at her long flowing brown hair and large brown eyes. She just smiled and looked at him
"I love you" she said and he leaned over and kissed her
"I love you too" he said then kissed her belly button "You too baby"
"Max she can't hear you" she laughed
"How do you know that? How do you know that our baby is a girl?"
"Because I just do and I doubt she can hear you"
"Well I'll just have to try harder then won't I?" he grinned and began singing loudly to her belly button.
"Help me up. I have to go pee" she said and he helped her up off the boxes. She waddled off to the bathroom and he went into the bedroom and pulled the mattress onto the frame before grabbing the bags with the pillows and the cushions and set them all out on the bed for her. He unrolled the quilt and flung it over them. Liz waddled in and saw the bed all ready for her
"You are far too good for me" she said "Now why did you marry me? Mr Evans?" she asked as she climbed onto the bed and laid down
"Because I am evil and want your money and your body for my fiendish wicked experiments" he cackled as he crawled onto the bed closer to her. She grabbed hold of his shirt and pulled him down for a searing kiss
"I've always liked science. I bet I make a good test subject" she said with a glint in her eye. She sighed sleepily, the move had taken all day and she was worn out
"Rest. No experiments for now, I'm going to go see if I can find a bar round here. Just for future reference" he said that but meant a corner shop to get bready and milk without having to trek all the way to the mall
"Max you're going to turn into an alcoholic" she giggled
"Not on one glass of champaign or wine a week" he shot back as he pulled his coat on
"Okay but don't be long. We'll miss you" she called.
Max went down the steps after shutting the door and walked past the skip, he heard a clang and stopped. He peered over the edge of the skip and two brown eyes looked back, he jumped surprised as the owner of those eyes stood up. It was a guy, probably a little older than his twenty five years, wearing an old rain coat, tatty ripped gloves and a emtpy pizza box on his head. He had a bottle of something in a paper bag in one hand and the other was held out
"Got any spare change sir?" he asked with a very british accent
"No I'm sorry" he replied
"My name is Michael..." he said before swallowing down some alcohol "I'm Vrittish" he said
"Yeah and very drunk too" replied Max
"I see you and your lady have moved into the new apartment" he leaned closer and squinted at him "Very nice place ta live" he nodded "Excuse me I think I'm going to be sick now" he disappeared and Max closed his eyes at the hurling sound inside the skip. He walked off before English Michael could talk to him about anything else.

***

Liz struggled to get up from the bed. She needed to pee again, she couldn't really hold it in. She grabbed the headboard and tried to pull herself up once more. She finally got to her feet but it was too late and it rushed out puddling at her feet
"Ah hell" she grumbled then a pain shot through her stomach. She gasped! This was it! Baby was coming! She stumbled over and grabbed her cell phone and pressed speed dial 1 to call Max. He answered it on the first ring
"Liz? What's wrong? Can you get up? I didn't put too much pillows on the bed did I? Do you want pickles and ice cream? Cheesecake sandwiches?"
"Max shut up!" she shouted "The baby's coming! I need you to come home straight away! You have to take me to the hospital!" she shouted and she could hear him running back along the street
"I'll be right there. Don't worry I'll call a taxi and we'll be there in no time. Don't worry" he said before he hung up. She felt another shooting pain and it was much worse this time
"Hurry" she begged through clenched teeth as she clung to the dresser.

***

Max opened the front door, he moved fast through the new apartment but didn't see the box until he tripped over it. He hit his head on the floor and passed out. Liz saw Max lying on the floor and sighed deeply, she dialled for the emergency services because with Max down they would be going nowhere and going nowhere fast.
The ambulance turned up a few minutes later and loaded Max into one side, she climbed in and lied down on a trolley. One of the paramedics put a oxygen mask over her to help her breath and she tried to relax. She soon ended up falling asleep calmly.

***

Max's eyes fluttered open and his head hurt like hell. What happened? He looked round the room and saw his parents sitting next to him. He could see Isabel and Alex standing a little way away. Had he been in an accident? Traffic maybe? No they didn't have a car. He looked round confused, all his family seemed to have the same expression on their faces. He touched his head and slowly sat up groaning then realised someone was missing
"Liz?" he called and Diane began crying again. He swallowed hard and closed his eyes tight before trying again "Liz!" there was no answer. Isabel turned and buried her face in her husband's shoulder. He turned to his mom and dad
"Where's Liz? Is she okay?" he asked Phillip just looked at him grimly then put an arm around his wife. Max slid from the trolley, barely noticing the cold against his bare feet. He took one last look at them before hurrying off. He ran out the room and down the ward to the stairs, he hurried down them till he saw the sign for the maternity ward. He spotted Liz's parents sitting outside at the end of the hall. He hurried over to them
"Jeff? Nancy? Where's Liz?" he asked frantically. Jeff had been crying, they both had. Nancy looked up and pointed to the room opposite them. Max moved over to the door and opened it. A single sheet was pulled up over her to her shoulders. She was so pale and still, a strangled noise came from his throat
"Ah" he began as his eyes filled with tears "No" he breathed then fell to his knees "Ohhhhaahhh no" he sobbed "Oh god! Please god nooo!" he crawled quickly across the floor and grabbed onto the trolley pulling himself level with her face. He looked down as a few tears fell from his eyes "No! Nooooooooo Liz! Nooo! Oh no god no Liz!" he shouted in pain then crumpled down onto the floor. Liz's parents came in, Nancy put her hand on his shoulder as he cried and Jeff moved to the little tiny bed and picked up the baby girl. He carried her over to Max and sat down opposite him
"We called her Liz. Liz Evans" he explained "Liz was right, the baby was a girl. Max we're too old to look after her, she's your daughter" he whispered but Max didn't hear him. His family came down and stood outside the room. He had hold of part of the bad and was leaning against the wall crying. He had lost his soul mate...

Isabel followed her parents up the stairs. Diane had the newborn baby in her arms and Phillip was carrying the baby monitor
"Mom are you sure this is a good idea? What if Max just ignores the baby like he does us?"
"Max can't ignore any girl called Liz with brown eyes besides he has to learn that lying in bed and doing nothing is not good. We all lost Liz and he has to move on"
"You're mother's right" said Phillip. He opened the door and Diane quietly walked in and laid Baby Liz down on the bed next to a sleeping Max. Phillip put the baby monitor on the bedside table and shoved it behind the lamp where Max wouldn't see it.
"What if she falls off the bed?" asked Isabel but Diane just smiled
"You were always rollers. I learnt a lot from you two" she said as she grabbed two thick pillows and put them next to Liz
"Come on let's go downstairs" said Phillip ushering the girls out of the room.
Nancy and Jeff were downstairs with Alex and the other baby monitor, Phillip nodded at Jeff and he switched it on and turned it up loud and then placed it on the table and they all waited.

***

Baby Liz rolled over and touched his shoulder. He was lying in only his jeans and boxer shorts. Liz wriggled over and began to drool on his shoulder
"Uh" she gurgled making baby noises. Max sighed in his sleep and smiled,
"Liz" he groaned and rolled over to see that she wasn't there. He sat up and looked around "Liz?" then he spotted the little baby next to him
"Oh jeez god damn!" he gasped and fell off the bed. He peered over the edge and saw the little baby moving about in the middle "Where the hell did you come from?" he whispered. He climbed onto the bed as the baby began to cry
"Oh no baby don't cry!" he gasped then looked to his door "MOM!" he shouted as the baby began to cry harder "MOM!" he kneeled on the bed unsure of what to do. He couldn't just let her cry now could he? He slowly scooped her up into his arms and began to make shushing noises at her
"It's okay baby. I'm here. Daddy's here" he said as he craddled her in his arms.

***

Diane smiled and stood up moving to her bag. She pulled out sheets of paper and placed them on the counter
"It's time for us to go" she said as she snagged the baby monitor and put it in her bag
"But mom!" whined Isabel, Alex placed his hand on her shoulder
"I think we should all go now Izzy" he said warmly and she sighed, he put his arm around her shoulder. He wasn't sure what he would do if he lost her. At least Max had a girl to help him through this.

***

"Mom!" he called for the third time. He looked down at the little baby girl in his arms. He knew that she was her daughter but he couldn't look after her. It was a job that both he and Liz should have shared, he'd only be half the parent to her and she didn't deserve a half attempt.
He climbed from the bed and went downstairs and found that his parents had been here. He could see pieces of paper on the counter, instructions from his mom on what to do. Liz was drooling on his shoulder again and she was trying to bite him
"You hungry baby?" he asked her, he held her carefully with one arm and moved till he found the instructions on how to make a bottle.
There were bags of formula on the side but after looking through the ingredients he decided regular milk heated up would be better for her. He carried her over to near the couch and pulled the throw over blanket from the back and laid it down on the floor. He laid cushions down then put Liz down on top of them
"Don't worry baby. I'm making your bottle now" he said before hurrying back over to heat up the milk. He poured it into the pan and heated it up, he kept glancing over at Liz. She had found interest in her foot and was tasting it happily. He grabbed a spoon and checked if the milk was warm enough now. He turned the gas off and poured the milk into the bottle then tested it on the inside of his elbow. It was just right so he hurried back over to the living room and carefully pulled her foot away from her mouth and put the bottle in her mouth. He scooped her up into his arms and fed her the bottle. He got a first proper good look at his little girl, she had a big tuft of dark brown hair on her head and large beautiful brown eyes and his ears
"You're beautiful Liz Evans" he whispered.

Max wasn't quite sure what to do after he fed Liz the bottle. He knew babies had to be burped but he didn't know how to do that. After searching through the quick instructions his mom gave him he was still clueless
"Think Max think!" he sighed "When babies get burped women put them on their... shoulder!" he exclaimed and lifted baby Liz to his shouder and began to pat her back. She gurgled the threw up down his back
"Eugh!" he groaned wishing he had put a shirt on before he did this! He left Liz on the bed surrounded by thick large fluffy pillows like his mom had done while he cleaned off and got changed.
He was going to have to go to the store to pick up the baby items. They had a crib and some diapers but no baby clothes and he would have to get extra supplies of milk to heat up for her.

***

After three tries of putting the diaper on he finally got one on then slipped one of Liz's small t-shirts on over the baby. He grabbed a glove and put it over her head to keep her tiny head warm and and grabbed a oven mitt and slipped her into it to keep her feet warm. He put his coat on and gathered her up in his arms and headed out along the street. He had been saving up a serious pay check for baby shopping and it was going on today. He caught the bus to the mall and some of the ladies on the bus cooed over his little girl.
He got off and grabbed a trolley carefully putting her into one of the baby seats. He went straight to the baby section and bought probably every item of baby clothing there. He got scratch mittens, socks, booties, hats, bibs, bonnets, dresses. He got a buggy and it almost gave him a heart attack when he saw how much it all cost! Thank god he had saved all this money up! He loaded most of the stuff into a cab and rooted through one of the bags to change her clothes. He changed her into a little white dress with her socks and her booties and put the scratch mitts on her so she didn't scratch her face
"We're going to go visit gramma" he cooed and she gurgled
"Is that your daughter?" asked the cab driver he smiled and nodded
"Yep my little Lizzie" he replied
"How old is she?" he inquired
"Five days" Max shot back
"I bet you and mom are really happy. She your first baby?"
"Yes she is my first baby and her mother died during child birth"
"Oh... I'm sorry" he apologised. Max just nodded silently, Liz began to cry in his arms. She could sense his sadness
"It's alright baby. We'll be there soon" he soothed her. He reached into one of the bags and pulled out a little spaceship rattle. He shook it in front of her face, she latched onto it and shook it about. He ticked her tiny tummy with one finger and she gurgled. The cab pulled up outside the tall Spanish Styled Evans Homestead and he got out. Diane met him half way and Phillip came out to help with all the baby stuff.
She watched her son wearily, it had only been this morning that she had left her grandchild with him. He had been out and shopping no less that was a good sign! But was he here to leave Liz with them and go back to his life of pain and sadness? She didn't know if she could ever help her son if that happened, she had put all her faith in Liz to help him heal and move on but if she were left here there would be no way to reach him.
"Hi mom. Say hello to gramma baby Lizzie" he cooed but she was too busy with the rattle he had given her. His eyes melted and he seemed to bring in sadness. He looked like he was almost going to give up again
"Oh Max" whispered Diane pulling him close into her arms.
"I love you mom" he whispered "Is it okay if we stay here for a few days. I feels strange being there and... Liz not"
"Oh sure, sure of course. Stay as long as you want. You're old room is still there and Phillip can go round and get the crib..."
"Thanks okay mom. Lizzie is going to stay with me," he said and she nodded "I hope you don't mind that I brought this stuff over here. I didn't really think of any other place to come to"
"I'm glad that you chose here Max" she whispered before leading him and baby Liz inside.

He stood staring out the window. This was his home but everywhere he looked he saw her. He wasn't sure if he could stay here any more. Yes he loved his family and they had been very supportive after Liz's death but all he could see in the things around him was her and if he ever wanted to move on and raise his daughter he had to get away from all the happy memories.
"Uh ummm" he turned and saw his daughter on the bed. He had got the hang of this parental thing well at least for babies. He didn't know his mom and dad did it! Raising both of them at the same time? It was a miracle they survived! He walked over and picked her up craddling her in his arms. She was so beautiful... he sighed he could escape the place that Liz Parker lived in but he could never escape his own daughter. Whenever he looked at her it was all he saw. It was a strange sweet torture, one he subjected himself to every moment.
"Max?" he looked up at saw his mom standing there. He smiled and looked away
"We're okay mom. I've been thinking that it's time to go back to the house, I can't stay here forever and I do have to go back to work... I have to hire a new secretary" he looked away as his eyes glazed over.
Diane's heart broke, Liz and Max had built that company up together it was going to be strange with her not around. She had no idea how he was coping!
"Max I think you should leave it a couple more days before you go back"
"Oh mom! I'm going out of my mind! I see her every where and I need something to take my mind off it. I could just loose myself in my work and try and forget"
"Now Maxwell Phillip Evans! Don't you dare think for one minute that you're problems will go away if you do that. You can't just dive into work and pretend everything is okay. You'll never survive like that and that is not the way I brought my son up" she raised her voice, she didn't mean to but she did and was immediately sorry when she saw her son begin to cry.
"I must have been the worst husband in the world!" he sobbed "My wife has been dead for a few days and already I'm trying to forget her!" Diane hurried over and pulled him and baby Liz close
"No Max that doesn't make you the worst husband in the world. You loved Liz, with all your heart and soul. Anyone could see that and you've come to realise that you have to move on. Most people don't come to that and they loose themselves in their pain. Would Liz wanted you or Lizzie to be sad for the rest of your lives just because she isn't there anymore?" he sniffed hard
"No" he sobbed out "She. Would have. Wanted. Us-s to be happy. She'd want Lizzie to be happy"
"There you go. Be happy and move on just don't ever forget how much you loved each other or how much she meant to you"
"I don't think I can" he replied and she patted his head and sighed.

***

Isabel was sitting on his desk sucking on a lollipop when he opened the door. He had barely made it through the office, why didn't he hire male typers? All those women rushed at him and began fussing over Lizzie. He shut the door and sighed with relief until he saw her sitting there
"What do you want?"
"I hear you need a secretary" she replied
"Izz you already have a job and a good paying one too"
"Yes that I know, but you need a partner in this. Someone you trust" she stated and he smirked evilly at her
"And you thought that it would be you" he sneered, she rolled his eyes as he shoved her off the desk. He set the little baby seat down on the floor and fussed over her
"Isabel I'm not ready to take on a partner yet and I've already pretty much decided on a secretary from all the files of those who applied. Her name is Teresa Harding and she comes highly recommended from all her employers, well except one. I couldn't understand that one"
"Tess? Tess Harding? Oh man Max you sure know how to pick 'em!"
"Why? What's wrong with her?"
"Tesexual? Nothing wrong with her at all, very few men can resist her"
"Oh no she's not one of those... don't tell me she sleeps her way into a job?"
"Sleeps, screws and down right-"
"Isabel not in front of Lizzie!" he cried putting his hand over his eyes "I already gave her the job"
"Bye Max! I have a job to go to remember. Because I'm not someone you trust!" she seemed too overly happy about that. He had to get her back for that later.
He looked over to the clock on his wall and saw that it was only nine thirty, she would be here at ten. Oh only on a day like this!

"Mr Evansssss!" came the loud and very shrill sing-songy voice from behind his door. He groaned deeply and Lizzie began to sniffle in her chair, she would be crying any second
"Come in" he said clearly and the door burst open. She flew in with a blur of white blonde and blue eyes. She moved so fast he barely had time to register that she had entered the room when she was practically sitting upon his desk
"Hello Mr Evans" she said with a tone that would make Marilyn blush "I'm Teresa Harding"
"Nice to uh meet you Miss Hard-on, I mean Harding" he stuttered, she took it as a sign he liked her and his stumble was because he was thinking about her, he had never seen a woman so much like a guy. If she were a guy she'd be sporting the biggest wood right in his very office.
"Give me a second and I'll show you to your office were you will be working" he said and she nodded. He leaned over and scooped little Lizzie out of her baby chair and began to shush her in his arms
"AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGH!" he jumped at the shrill scream coming from Tess. She looked terrified but was trying to plaster on a smile "A-a baby. Oh I love babies, they're so cute! Is she your sister?"
"No she's not. Lizzie is my daughter"
"Oh well I must say you look far too young to have a daughter!" she said. Maria, one of his other employers and Liz's best friend, knocked on the door. He should have given the secretarial job to her, she had been with them from the start
"Max? Is everything okay? I heard screaming"
"Yeah every thing's fine Ria. Are you still coming to lunch?"
"You bet your desk I am. Wouldn't miss it for the world, besides it'll give me a chance to catch up with itty bitty little Lizzie" she cooed walking over to Max and taking the baby from his arms "Don't say a word. I'm looking after her while you show Tessexual to her new office"
"What did you just call me?" asked Tess
"Nothing, nothing Tessexual" she mumbled when she was out the door
"She was... nice" she said bitterly "Is she your girlfriend?"
"No, she was uh my Wife's Best friend"
"And you slept with her and got her pregnant" she concluded nodding "I see. It's okay Mr Evans I understand" Max was sorely tempted to hit her. Hard. And never before had he been inspired to hurt a lady.
"For your information Maria is a friend of the family. I would never ever cheat on my wife and I don't intend to. I will never ever touch another woman because I will remain true and honest to my wife's memory" he said then grabbed her arm and dragged her down the hall to his Wife's Old office.
"This is your office Tessexual Hardon, there are reports you need to type up and I suggest you start now if you want to get done before we close up for the day"
"You mean work?" she gasped incredulously
"Yes work. What regular people do every day" he said before slamming the door and storming back to his office fuming.
A few minutes later Tess knocked on his door, then came in gingerly looking very hurt and confused. She had a file in her hand and looked like she was about to cry
"Uh Mr Evans?"
"Yes what is it?"
"How do you turn the computer on?" she asked quietly and he looked up to see if it was a joke. The look on his face told him she was serious. He really should have given Maria the Secretarial Job!

***

Maria, Max and little Lizzie were all at on table outside the CrashDown. They always ate lunch here every day and talked and laughed about things but today all of them were quiet. Even the baby didn't make a noise, she was just staring about with wide eyes
"I miss her" whispered Maria quietly "It's so quiet without her"
"I know" replied Max "I don't even know how I've made it this far. I feel so strange knowing that she's gone and my heart is breaking yet each day I move forward and keep going. I don't have any idea how I'm doing this"
"I know what you mean. I guess having people around you that care helps. You have a daughter and you can't give up living because you need to raise her"
"I know. I always thought that when Liz died I'd die right along with her, but what happens when Lizzie is older and she moves out? And I don't have to look after her anymore"
"She's always need looking after Max" replied Maria but he should his head
"What about the day when she doesnt need me as much as she does now. When she's married and has a life of her own with someone she loves?"
"You'll still have your friends. You'll have me and Isabel and Alex. We'll be here for you" she patted his hand and he gave her a small smile
"Thank you Maria. I'm glad you're my best friend" he whispered
"Stop that, you're making me feel loved. I might get the wrong idea!" she waved her hand at him grinning. Maria was like a sister and Max was the brother she never had, they had become close during all the years that they had known Liz Parker. That was something that would never changed...

He turned the taps on and sighed deeply rubbing his hands over his face, today he been a very, very long day. After lunch with Maria they went back to the office and Tess was fighting with the photocopier. She was actually on top of it banging the buttons trying to get it to work. He switched it on from the wall and left her to it.
Then five minutes later she came to ask him how to switch the computer on again because she had forgotten how to do it. The only joy was when Maria handed Lizzie to Tess and she threw up on her two thousand dollar suit. He had a tense dinner with his sister and Maria because Tess invited herself, she was going out of her way to get in his pants.
He padded into the bedroom and found Lizzie sucking on her foot again, he pulled her little foot away from her mouth and picked her up. He carried her into the bathroom slipped his boxers off and climbed into the bath with her. He scooped up some bubbles and put them on her hands, she stared at them with fascination then tried to eat them. He washed her little tuft of hair with baby shampoo and cleaned her all off.
He ducked his head under and washed his hair quickly with one hand and remembered all the baths he had with Liz.

She would lean back against his chest and he would gather her hair up and run his fingers through her smooth locks as he worked the shampoo into it. He loved washing her hair, it was one of the things they could both do and any chance to touch her hair he jumped at. He smiled before grabbing the jug and pouring water of her head washing the suds away. She smiled and tipped her head back to kiss him
"Love you" she whispered

"I love you too Liz" he whispered then looked round and found him in tepid water with Lizzie in his arms. Liz was gone and he tried hard to hide the tears from his little girl. He climbed out and grabbed a towel for Lizzie and one for himself.
He dried her off and then put on a fresh diaper before slipping the baby grow on and rooted around his briefcase for her scratch mitts. She yawned sleepily and he laid her down in her crib.
He pulled on his boxers and some sweat pants and a clean vest, he grabbed the baby monitor and plopped himself down on the couch. He switched the TV on and tried to forget. The music channel came pouring out with I Shall Believe. He listened for a moment before switching it off, it was their wedding song. They danced together all night just listening to that song. He tossed the remote and began to cry
"Liz" he sobbed "I miss you so much" he didn't hold anything back. He missed her so much. His tears and pain were interrupted when he heard Lizzie crying over the baby monitor. He switched everything off and headed to his bedroom. He picked her up and tried to sooth her in between of wiping his wet eyes. He curled up on the bed with her and pulled the quilt over them pair of them. She began to dribble on his finger and he fell asleep like that.

TBC...
"Would it be okay if I ride home with you after school?"
"Sure you can ride me home... I mean ride you home..." he trailed off feeling deeply embarrassed
"I'd like that" she said feeling unlike herself, he grinned and they began working although not really paying attention. - Max & Liz in Where I Follow.

Coupling: Max and Liz but it's not really going to be about couples.
Rating: Like I said Liz is going to die so it's going to be a little sad and heavy. Mature at most, if it goes over that I'll let you know.
A Note: I'm listening to sad songs while I write this part so it's going to be very, very sad.

i'm so tired of being here
suppressed by all of my childish fears
and if you have to leave
i wish that you would just leave
because your presence still lingers here
and it won't leave me alone

Saturday morning he woke up Lizzie was fast a sleep her tiny hand was gripping his bunched up shirt and she looked so calm. Like an angel.
Today was the day. Today was the day. Today was the day, no matter how many times he heard it over and over in his head he still couldn't believe it. Today was the day he was going to say goodbye to Liz Parker for ever. He never thought that he would see this day, he was sure that when she left this world he would leave right along side her but that wasn't the case. He climbed out of bed and sighed as the early morning sun drifted through the window casting a soft glow on his back. He stood up and rubbed his face.
It was so easy to shave away his stubble, even easier to slip the black suit on. It was so easy to do all these things and he was amazed by it. When he found out she was gone he thought about these moments, each little thing he did brought him closer to saying goodbye to her forever. His heart was breaking his soul in half and yet he was still moving forward.
He dressed Lizzie in her dark purple dress and got her little booties on, he skipped breakfast and packed two of her bottles into her travel bag incase she got hungry.

these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase
when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears

The doorbell rang and it was Alex and Izzy waiting for him. He gave them a tight smile and Alex took the bag from his shoulder. Isabel offered to look after Lizzie but he shook his head
"I don't think I could get through this without her" he replied she just smiled and nodded as they walked downstairs to the hearse. He stopped when he saw the casket in the back. Flowered wreaths spelled out her name and he felt his tears begin to fall once more
"Come on. Let's go Max" whispered Isabel as she led him down the steps. Maria and Amy were in the other car behind them. Isabel sat with her brother as they rode to the church.

and i've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me
you used to captivate me
by your resonating light

Liz stood by her casket. Her Casket. It sounded so strange to hear in her head. She had to say goodbye, she had to say goodbye to her soul mate and her daughter. She would never find peace if she didn't.
She watched Max cry as he held Liz, she had noticed that he had never called her Liz, it was always Lizzie or Baby Liz maybe he just couldn't?
She floated across the floor and sat in the empty space next to him and touched his cheek. She smiled when he looked up then turned to look straight at her.
"I love you" she whispered before giving him one last kiss then she let go and began to fade away.

but now i'm bound by the life you left behind
your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
your voice it chased away all the sanity in me
these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase

"Liz?" he whispered staring at the empty space on the bench. She had been here, only true soulmates could sense their other half and she had been here! He smiled then kissed his daughter's forehead
"Don't worry Liz, I'll make you proud and I will look after Lizzie for as long as I shall live" he whispered. Maria came over and sat down next to him
"How you holding up?"
"She was here" he whispered and she looked at him confused
"What? What do you mean?"
"Remember when we were seventeen, the year Grandma Claudia passed away?"
"Yeah what about it?"
"Well she told us that we were true soul mates. Remember I would always know if Liz was near"
"Yeah we always... you mean you... oh my god" she gasped
"I think she came to say goodbye one last time"
"I can't believe... it's so like Liz! Even when she kicks the bucket she doesn't go until she's ready to say goodbye" she chuckled. Max put his arm around her shoulder
"I still can't believe she's gone but at least I get to say goodbye to her" he whispered "Could you watch Liz for me. I have to go up" he handed her the baby and stood up moving over to where Liz lay.
"I'm glad you came back to say goodbye. I'm going to miss you, I don't know how I'm here. Standing, breathing, talking and moving forward in this life. No wait I do, you gave me something before you left this world. Something that I will love and protect till my dieing day. Thank you for giving me a daughter. I will never love anyone like I loved you, no person could hold my heart the way you did. Goodbye my love" he planted a soft kiss on her forehead before going to sit back down.

when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
and i've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me

Jeff stood on the podium reciting Liz's favourite poem he had written her, he cleared his throat when he was done
"I never understand why it was such a horrible thing to have your child die before you but now I know all to well. Liz shouldn't have left this world, she had so much to give. So many things to do and now they are left undone. Liz was taken from us and we were given a granddaughter, yes she left behind a little girl and a husband. Max? Do you want to say a few things?" he asked trying to hold back the tears. Max handed Lizzie to Maria and then moved to the podium.
"When I first saw Liz I was about nine years old. I had just got off the bus for my first day at school and there she was. She was so beautiful, I held my breath and I knew I was in love.
She became my lab partner in junior high and I found out she had feelings for me too. We dated all through highschool and on Graduation I asked her to marry me on stage right after she had got her diploma. I had written down this perfect speech that I would tell her but I ended up loosing it. So I just got down on one knee and said "I love you. No word are needed for how I feel about you. You're my only one, Liz Parker will you be my husband?" she thought it was funny and she laughed and said yes. I miss her, I'm sure we all do. Liz... was loved and beautiful and strong and I have a feeling that her daughter will be just the same. I hope wherever my loving and caring soulmate is she's happy" he said and got down off the podium. He bust into tears and Isabel wrapped her arms around him and held him while he cried.

i've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
and though you're still with me
i've been alone all along

Bear with me I'm moving it forward to about two years after Lizzie was born

***

Till my body is dust
'til my soul is no more
I will love you, love you
'til the sun starts to cry
and the moon turns to rust
I will love you, love you

"Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday Dear Lizzie! Happy Birthday to you" chorused Max, Maria, Isabel and Lizzie's grandparents, she clapped furiously as she sat in the high chair. The cake was on the table out of her reach
"Hip! Hip! Hooray!" they continued and she began giggling then tried to reach out for the cake. Max leaned down next to her
"Blow them out baby" he said, she giggled when he blew at her face and she began to blow raspberries. Max and Isabel helped her blow out the candles then they went to get the spoons and bowls. Alex quickly took the candles out and gently pushed the cake into her grasp.
Max came back and found the cake in pieces and Lizzie had it in her brown fluffy hair
"Who let you have it?" he asked. She turned and looked at her Uncle Alex who was trying to look innocent, Max grabbed a spoon and scooped some up onto a spoon he leaned close to his little girl and whispered something in her ear. Alex watched fearfully then Max flipped the cake at him, Alex moved to the side and it got Jeff Parker on the side of the head.
"Grampy messy!" she giggled clapping her hand. She grabbed a hand ful of cake and threw it at her father. Isabel came back in and she burst out laughing when she saw Max wearing frosting for glasses
"Oh you think that's funny Isabel?" he asked as he grabbed a handful and began chasing her
"Yay! Yay! Get er dada" cheered Lizzie. She grabbed one last handful then wriggled out of her high chair and began chasing after them on wobbly legs. Alex watching Max threaten Isabel with the chocolate frosting and he didn't notice his little niece creeping up behind him. She pulled herself up onto the couch and got the cake then smushed it into the back of his pants. His eyes went wide and he turned round to see her pushing cake into his back pockets
"Ax messy!" she cried triumphantly and he groaned. Diane and Nancy walked in to the all out food fight going on in her son's living room. Max was leaning over Isabel with cake in one hand, he was trying to shove it in her face and down her top. Alex and Lizzie had joined up to fight against Phillip and Jeff in the all out cake war
"What is going on here!" she demanded and everyone stopped well except Lizzie
"Messy cak!" exclaimed Lizzie happily as she slid down off the couch and toddled over to her grandmother. Diane picked her up and blew a raspberry on her cheek
"Good job we got two cakes" she said
"Twu Caks? Grama" she asked and Diane nodded "YAY!" she cried cheerfully.
A chocolate covered Jeff brought out the cake and it was cut up and handed out. Lizzie chose to eat it with her hands and everyone else settled for a spoon.

But I need to know - will you stay for all
time... forever and a day
Then I'll give my heart 'til the end of all
time... forever and a day

Max hugged his sister goodbye. Everyone was going home now and he had to tidy up and give Lizzie a bath
"Today was good Max" she said with a sigh then looked over to Lizzie
"You'll get your turn soon Izzy I promise. You know Alex will spoil your baby rotten"
"I know, I can't wait to have kids. I see how great a father you are and I keep picturing Alex..."
"You'll make a great mom and Alex will make a great father. No where near as good as me but..." Isabel slapped his arm chuckling, she hugged him one last time
"Bye Max" she said before heading down to the car where Alex was waiting.
"Bye bye Antabel" waved Lizzie then she yawned. Max picked her up and held her chin until she was done yawning
"How bout a bath for the birthday girl?" he asked
"No bat! Messy!" she protested loudly "Messy! Messy! Messy!"
"You can have bubbles and the ducky" he tried to tempt her but she was excited by all the cake she had eaten today
"No!" she shouted bouncing in his arms "Messy! Messy! Messy!"
"How about... the squid"
"No!" she shot back shaking her head "Dada don't wanna bath lone"
"I'll be there with you. So will Ducky and Squiddy and lots and lots of bubbles"
"Ok" she sighed, he went into the bathroom and sat her down on the floor while he ran the bath. He poured the bubbly stuff in then grabbed Ducky and Squiddy then turned to strip off her dirty clothes to find her gone
"Lizzie!" he shouted and he heard a giggle come from somewhere in the house. He switched off the taps and began looking through her room, he looked under the bed and in the closet
"GONNA FIND YOU!" he called and he heard another giggle. He crept across the hall to his room "I'm getting close" he called and heard something moving in his closet. He opened the doors and saw two feet sticking out underneath his suits. He knelt down and grabbed the two little ankles and pulled her out. He froze when he saw she had hold of a box and she had opened it she turned to him holding up a photo. After the funeral he had packed everything of hers away because it was too painful to see but too precious to throw away
"Dada who dis?" asked Lizzie holding up a picture of Max and Liz together a week before she found out she was pregnant, he picked Lizzie up into his arms and pulled the box closer to him
"This is someone who went away a long time ago. I loved her lots and lots"
"Like me?" she asked and he nodded as tears began to fill his eyes
"Her name was Liz Parker and she was my wife like Isabel is Alex's wife, Liz was your mommy" he explained
"Momma?" she whispered and he nodded
"She loved you so much" he said sadly as a tear slid down his cheek
"Where momma?" she asked as she took the photo back
"Momma went to Heaven when you were born. You were both so beautiful and perfect that there couldn't be two Liz Evan's in the world so she decided that she should go to Heaven where she could watch over us" he stated. Lizzie looked up at the ceiling and waved
"I love you momma!" she called then added "Dada love momma too!" Max broke down crying and Lizzie wrapped her little arms around him
"Don't sad dada momma's watchin. Gots to be happy!" she bounced and he nodded
"I am Happy" he replied then picked her up "Let's get you cleaned up now okay?"
"Okie Dada" she replied as he carried her back to the bathroom.
He left the picture of him and Liz on the edge of the box, one of his tears ran down the photo and it looked like Liz was crying.

'Til the storms fill my eyes
and we touch the last time
I will love you, love you...

Thanks Haley!

I mentioned that Lizzie was two at the beginning of the part. It would have been really impressive if she had been one and talking that much!
