Hi everyone.

Any feed back would be great, and any pointers would definiately come in handy!

Oh, and if anyone has any beta reading experience and is willing to beta read my story please email me! Thanks :D

Thank you so much to JustThisOnce for doing this amazing banner for me!! I love it!

Chapter 1

Liz had been walking around LAX airport for about half an hour trying to find her way to the baggage claim. Even though the airport is supposed to be well signposted she simply couldn’t find any directions to where she wanted to go. “If I’m going to live in LA then I should really get a better sense of direction” she thought to herself while muttering about the lack of signposts. She could just imagine Maria laughing at her and saying something along the lines of “In LA for 5 minutes and already lost!” She was so lost in thought that she didn’t notice the tall blonde standing in front of her straight away.

******
Isabel Evans fumbled for her cell phone in her handbag as she strode purposefully through the terminal. She had not two minutes ago turned on her phone after getting off her flight from Hawaii and it was already ringing. With a sigh she answered.
“Hello?”
“Don’t sound so disappointed to hear from me Isabel.” Her agent chided her. “How was the last day of filming? Did everything wrap up well?”
“Yes, everything was fine. I’m just about to collect my luggage and find the limo that you insist that I use.”
“Isabel, I don’t insist, the production company from your last film does. They like to know that you get to your destination safely.”
“I know, I know, you always tell me that. I will talk to you tomorrow after I have gotten some sleep.”
“Okay. Talk to you then.”
Her agent was Mel Brennen. He was the best in the industry and does an amazing job. Isabel loved the man but she was feeling a bit irritable after her flight and she just wanted to get home, have a shower and go to bed.
As she was walking to get her suitcase she spotted a slight, dark brown haired girl standing still looking around her, disorientated. She had a look of deep concentration on her pretty face with a frown marring her smooth complexion. Isabel usually didn’t take too much notice of the people around her so as not to draw too much attention to herself. She stopped walking and looked at the small woman. She looked lost and Isabel felt compelled to offer her help even though she would never usually do such a thing for fear of being recognized and mobbed by her adoring fans.
“Are you alright?” Isabel asked the girl. She had to repeat her question four times until she finally roused her from her thoughts.
“Huh? Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you were speaking to me. I wasn’t paying attention. What did you say?”
“I was just checking to see if you were alright, you seemed lost.”
“I am. I just got off a plane from Roswell, New Mexico and I have never been anywhere but there so I have no idea where I am, not to mention my poor sense of direction. Sorry I'm rambling.” Liz stated look up at the blonde speaking to her for the first time. She gasped. “Oh my god! Your Isabel Evans! Wow, I can’t believe it.” Liz gushed before blushing “I'm sorry, you probably hear that all the time. I'm not a crazy fan or anything, I just admire your work. I'm Liz Parker by the way.”
Isabel smiled at Liz. “That’s fine. Do you need me to help you to find your way?”
“Would you? That would be so great if you could just give me directions to where I can get my luggage I would be really grateful.”
“Well I'm going that way anyway so I can take you.” Isabel said as she turned and started towards baggage claim.
“You know, I always thought that a big movie star like you would have a whole entourage of people following you around.” Liz confessed.
“Oh believe me, if my agent had his way I would have security and stuff following me but I like my space. The only thing he insists on is that I take the production company’s limo service home from the airport for security reasons.”
When they got to the carousels with luggage going around on them Isabel found her bag quickly while it took Liz a little while longer.
“Where are you going now Liz?”
“I'm going to get a cab to the UCLA campus and claim my room. I told the uni I was coming today so I have to claim my room before 5pm or I forfeit it. So I have about 2 hours to get there. Plenty of time.” Liz explained, looking at her watch.
“Oh, do you want a lift? I go past there to get to my place. I'm sure James, my driver, wouldn’t mind an extra passenger.”
“Really? Are you sure that you don’t mind? It would save me the cab fare.”
“Yeah, its fine.” Isabel said with a smile leading the way to where the limo was waiting.

Isabel didn’t know what had gotten into her. She would never usually offer a ride to a complete stranger, but there was something about Liz that made her think that she knew her. Liz was just a sweet, shy girl. She wasn’t going to do anything to harm Isabel. In fact Isabel actually thought for the first time in a long time that Liz might even become her first real friend since she entered into the movie industry when she was fourteen.

Liz was amazed at how nice Isabel was. In most of the magazine interviews with Isabel Evans she had come across as polite but distant. The side of Isabel Liz had met today was sweet and kind. She was making an effort to make Liz feel at ease, and Liz was now curious to find out what the real Isabel was like, she wanted to find the side of Isabel that she doesn’t usually show people. Maria would freak out when she found out that Isabel Evans was giving her a lift to uni from the airport. She couldn’t wait to talk to her. It was going to be so strange not being about to see Maria all the time and share everything with her, and Alex too. She was roused from her thoughts when she heard Isabel greet her driver.
“Hello James. How are you?”
“I'm well thank you Miss Evans. And yourself?”
“I'm good thanks James. This is Liz Parker, she just moved to LA to go to university. You don’t mind if we give her a lift to UCLA do you?”
“Not at all Miss Evans. It is a pleasure to meet you Miss Parker.”

He opened the door to the limo and helped the two women into the back then moved around to the trunk of the car to put their luggage in the back before going to the drivers side door to get in the limo.
He didn’t see the masked man coming up behind him until it was too late. When he struggled the assailant pulled out a handgun and shot James. As he was doing this two other men were getting in the back of the limo where Isabel and Liz were.

Liz and Isabel had been talking quietly in the back while waiting for James to pack the car when the door was opened violently.
“James? What’s going on?” Isabel asked before realizing that it wasn’t James opening the door. Then she heard the gun shot.
“Don’t worry ladies.” The man getting into the limo with them snarled. “We’re just going for a little ride.”
Then he and the other man getting in the limo held foul smelling cloths over their noses and mouths until everything started going black.
The last thing Isabel remembered was the sound of the limo starting and driving hastily away from the entrance of the airport.

Chapter 2

Isabel was the first to wake up, though she instinctively stayed still in case the kidnapers were in the room. She opened one eye partially to look around at her surroundings. She was in a large, empty room that looked like it could be a warehouse. The concrete floor Isabel was laying on was cold and hard. There were no sounds in the room other than her rapid breathing and Liz's deeper, more even breaths, indicating that their kidnapers weren't in the room. Isabel slowly turned her head to the sound of Liz's breathing and saw the small girl laying crumpled on the floor. She didn't have any physical injuries that Isabel could see so she assumed that she was still out cold from whatever had been on the cloths that were used to knock them out.
"Liz...Liz wake up." Isabel crawled over to her and touched her shoulder. "Liz, please wake up. Liz." She continued whispering to Liz until she finally got a response in the form of a groan. "Oh thank god. I thought you would never wake up."
"What happened? I feel like I have been run over by a Mack truck."
"I know. I do too. It must be a side effect of the drug the kidnapers used."
"Have you seen them yet?" Liz whispered fearfully.
"No, not since the car. We need to find a way out of here."

Just then they heard footsteps and the sound of voices coming towards them.
"Quick, pretend that you haven't woken up yet." Isabel whispered hurriedly.
They both slumped back on the floor to their original positions.
"Why can't I mess around with them first? We aren't going to start the rest of the plan involving them for hours. Can't I have some fun with them while they are still unconscious?"

Liz held her breath in fear. She was trying desperately not to shudder with revolution at what she was hearing.

"No Donnie, you heard what Raff said. We don't touch them. They need to be kept in good condition for later. Understood? No messing around. Now stay here and keep an eye on them while I finish preparing for Raff’s return and the rest of the plan."
"Fine, Gabe, I won't." Donnie lied.
With that Gabe left the room and Donnie alone with both the girls.
"Gabe's not here and wont be back for ages. I can have some fun and no one will ever know." He mumbled to himself as he looked between the girls, trying to decide who he would play with first. They were both beautiful but he liked the dark haired girl more. He had always preferred brunettes to blondes.
As he looked over Liz's prone form he could feel himself harden in preparation for what he was planning on doing. He got up from his spot in the room and sauntered over to where Liz lay.
Both Liz and Isabel could hear his footsteps moving closer and in Liz's direction. Liz started to tremble in fear and was no longer able to pretend that she was unconscious. She pulled herself into sitting position.
"Ahh, your awake. That will just make it more fun." Donnie smirked at Liz.
Thinking quickly she said "Donnie you heard what Gabe said. He doesn't want us damaged for your plans."
That just seemed to enrage him, his eyes glinting in the dim light.
"What he doesn't know won't hurt him. And you won't tell him because you will wish you were never born."
"Donnie I really don't think that's a good idea."
Isabel called over to Donnie trying desperately to distract him from his current line of thought.
"And why exactly is that?" he snarled in return momentarily distracted.
"Um, well, because Gabe will know what you've done just from looking at her."
She stuttered.
"I don't think so, stop distracting me. I want to have some fun before Gabe gets back." Dismissing Isabel he returned to the task at hand. With an evil smirk on his face, he turned towards Liz and started walking over to where she had crawled to a corner of the room, his arousal clearly evident as it strained at his pants. Liz whimpered and looked desperately at Isabel for her to do something. Isabel was already looking around for something, anything, to use as a weapon against Donnie. When she saw there was nothing in the room she could use, and that Donnie was coming closer to Liz, Isabel ran and jumped on him, knocking him to one side. He managed to get Isabel off his back and onto the ground. When she tried to get up and attack him for a second time he raised his arm and backhanded her across the face, knocking her back to the ground, unconscious. Liz could see a nasty bruise already forming on her pale cheek, but was brought back to what was happening in the room when Donnie grabbed her by the arm and dragged her to the middle of the room. He knelt down over her straddling her waist with thighs and pinning her arms down with his knees. Liz struggled to move, to fight off the man attacking her but was powerless to move beneath his weight.

Back in Roswell, Nancy tossed and turned in her bed. She wasn't able to find a comfortable position and couldn't keep still and she was growing more restless by the minute. Finally she couldn't stand it any longer and called to her husband.
"Jeff, could you come in here." She croaked tiredly.
"Are you alright?" Jeff asked worriedly when he saw how distressed his wife was.
"No, Liz hasn't called yet and I think something is wrong."
"Honey, nothing is wrong. She is probably just caught up in making new friends and settling in to her new room."
"This isn't like her Jeff. She would have called so that we wouldn't worry."
Nancy insisted.
"Our daughter is a responsible young woman and I'm sure she is fine. Now stop worrying, your wearing yourself out and the doctor said that you shouldn't stress yourself in your condition. It's not good for you or the baby. Now try to relax. I have to go down stairs to sort some stuff out in the café. If you need anything just use the buzzer and I will be right up."

Nancy was eight months pregnant and confined to bed rest for the next month due to high blood pressure. They hadn't planned the pregnancy but it wasn't a tragedy either, in fact she was looking forward to having a baby around the house again, especially with Liz away at uni. Maria and Alex had dropped Liz at the airport because Nancy could leave her bed and Jeff needed to stay and look after her. Nancy was still worrying about Liz. She couldn't help it. She knew
Liz and knew that she would have called and that something was wrong. She just knew it. Maybe it was a maternal instinct or something, with this still weighting heavily on her mind she finally fell into a restless slumber.

******

Downstairs Maria and Alex watched as Jeff entered the Café from the backroom looking stressed. After they had seen Liz off at the airport Alex and Maria had come back to the Crashdown Café to discuss what they were going to do with themselves for the next few months and to decide what to do with their futures.
Neither of Liz's best friends had decided to go straight to university opting to take a year off instead to earn some money. Both had decided they would save as much as humanly possible and had done well so far. They might even visit Liz in
LA for a little while later in the year too. Seeing that it was getting late the two decided to call it a day and go to Maria's place where they would have their ritual movie night, without Liz for the first time.

Diane Evans was preparing dinner for herself when the phone rang, interrupting her thoughts. "Hello?"
"Is this Diane Evans?"
"Yes, who is this?"
"I am detective Charles Hoyt with the Los Angeles Police Department. I'm sorry to tell you this but your daughter Isabel was taken with another women from LAX airport around 3pm this afternoon. Her driver one James Wells was injured in the attack but was able to give us some helpful information and the limo they were kidnapped in had Global Positioning System equipment on it, but the assailants abandoned the limo. We are currently working on finding Isabel and the other woman, one Liz Parker. Do you recognize that name?"
Diane was so shocked by what she heard that she couldn't respond for a few moments. It wasn't until Detective Hoyt called her name that she was pulled out of her thoughts.
"Oh my god. Um no, no I don't know that name." Diane replied, her emotion evident in her voice.
"Well just sit tight and stay at home. We will call you with any information when we have something to report to you. Good evening ma'am."
With that the detective hung up the phone leaving Diane listening to a dial tone in shock.

Chapter 3

Liz continued to struggle but it was useless. No one was going to help her.
Isabel had already tried and had been knocked out for her efforts.
Donnie leaned forward and kissed Liz on her neck then dragged his lips up to kiss her mouth. He forced his tongue into her mouth and she gagged and tried desperately to turn away. She could feel him grind his erection into her belly as he tried to relieve some of the pressure building there. Bored with just kissing her he sat up. He grabbed the hem of her shirt and dragged it up to her neck exposing her chest. Liz jumped as his hands roamed over her chest until they settled on her breasts pulling at her nipples painfully, making her cry out in agony. Donnie moved one hand from her breasts and slid it down her body and unbuttoned her jeans. Sliding his hand into her panties he groped her at the apex of her thighs. Liz cried out again and with a renewed strength she struggled against Donnie's grip with more effort.
The door to the room crashed open as Gabe strode into the room. He took one glance at the situation and he saw red. Donnie didn't know what had hit him when he went flying across the room.
Liz scrambled to cover herself and get away from both of the men. She crawled over to where Isabel lay and saw that she was starting to come to as Liz cradled Isabel's head in her lap.
Gabe stormed over to where Donnie lay in shock.
"I told you not to touch them." He said so quietly that Donnie had to strain to hear his words.
"What? Got nothing to say for yourself? Very smart. Get out of here now. I will deal with you later."
Donnie jumped off the floor and run out of the room knowing what was good for him. Gabe looked over the girls huddled in the corner of the room before following Donnie out of the room.
After checking that Isabel was alright Liz started to explore their surroundings. When she got over to the place where Gabe had thrown Donnie across the room she noticed a crack in the corrugated iron wall.
"Isabel. Have a look. I think I may have found a way out of here." Liz called frantically. "If we both push against it we can make a hole big enough for us to get through. From the looks of it, it leads straight out to the street."
After about 30 minutes of desperate pushing the wall finally started to give way. Liz turned to look at the door when she heard footsteps approaching.
"Quick, someone’s coming! Isabel go through."
Isabel made it though the gap and Liz was just starting to get through when the door was thrown open. Gabe was standing there with a syringe in his hand. When he saw the girls escaping he started over to them. Liz was just pulling her second leg through the gap when Gabe grabbed a hold of her ankle.
"Isabel" she screamed. Isabel held onto her hands and pulled her further outside. Liz felt a sharp pain in her leg as Isabel finally managed to pull Liz the rest of the way outside.
"Isabel. He got me with the syringe. I don't feel so good." She was starting to see black spots.
"Liz, come on we have to get out of here. We have to keep going." Panic was rising in her voice. As she said the last word Liz collapsed into Isabel's arms.
Isabel managed to drag her towards the street. She saw a cab turn the corner on to the street closest to them and she started yelling for the cab to stop. She turned and looked over her shoulder and saw Donnie, Gabe and another man, maybe Raff, running towards them.
It seemed like an eternity before the driver finally stopped and Isabel dragged
Liz the rest of the way to the street and opened the back door of the cab. Once they were both inside she ordered the driver to go. She turned around to look out the back window at the warehouse in time to see that the men had almost reach the cab when it had taken off and they were running down the street after the cab. Then they turned a corner and she could see them no more.

******

Diane was sitting on the kitchen floor, where she had sunk to the ground after the police had called her, when her son arrived home.
"Mom, what are you doing on the floor? Are you alright?" He asked helping her up from the floor and leading her to sit on the lounge in the next room. He made her a cup of tea before finally getting her to talk to him.
Fear shot through him at her words and after she had finished he was as pale as her. They were both sitting in shocked silence and jumped when the phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Max? Is that you? Its Isabel."
"Oh my god, are you okay? Where are you?" He said breathing a sigh of relief as he heard her voice. She sounded shaken but not too bad.
"I'm alright, but I'm at the hospital with Liz. I have to give a statement to the police but they don't need me to stay overnight. Will you come and get me?"
"You don't even need to ask. Mom and I will be right there."
"Ask for Liz Parker's room at the front desk, I will be in there."

******

Liz had been unconscious for a few hours now. The doctors had said that they didn't think anything was wrong with Liz physically apart from some nasty bruises but they weren't sure about her brain and whether the sedative she was injected with would affect her mind. Isabel had thought that Liz was small before but now that she was lying unconscious in the large hospital bed and you couldn't see her personality shining through her big brown doe eyes, she looked even smaller. Her complexion was pale and it contrasted against her hark hair and the dark bruises under her eyes.
Isabel sat by her bed looking at her then to the monitors and back again. She looked so weak. Isabel knew that she hadn't known Liz for very long, but she felt connected to her especially after going through something as traumatic as a kidnapping. Isabel was also feeling guilty. If it wasn't for her then Liz wouldn't have been kidnapped with her, but then again she wouldn't have got to learn anything about Liz or made a friend in her and that was something that she wouldn't regret. She looked up to see her mom and brother put their heads through doorway then entered the room. Isabel stood up and went to her mother who hugged her and started crying when she saw the bruising around her right eye and cheek.
It had turned a horrible dark purple and black colour. The doctors had said that she had a slight concussion but apart from that she was fine and there was no need to keep her in the hospital.
Max stood in the doorway clenching and unclenching his jaw and fists. He couldn't believe something like this had happened! He was going to call Isabel's agent and make sure that she always had at least one bodyguard with her at all times, no matter how much she protested. Isabel touching his shoulder pulled him from his thoughts, and he promptly drew her into a tight hug.
"Are you alright? Did they do anything to you?"
"I'm fine. It's not me I'm worried about it's Liz. She should have woken up by now."
With that she broke down for the first time since the kidnapping.
"You should have seen what they tried to do to her!"
She would have continued but she was interrupted by Liz groaning as she came to, placing a hand to her head while grimacing in pain.
"Oh my god. Liz, how are you feeling? Do you remember what happened?"
"Yes, I'm okay. Water." She croaked in reply then once Isabel helped her to drink a glass of water she was able to answer in sentences. "I'm fine, though I think that Mack truck did another drive by." Liz tried to joke, but Isabel and her family could tell that her heart wasn't in it.
From the moment Max had heard Liz grown he had gone to get the doctor. The doctor examined her and asked her a few questions to check her coherence. Once that was complete he left the room after telling Liz they would keep her over night and she could go home in the morning.
"Liz, didn't you tell me at the airport that if you didn't claim your room at uni by 5pm yesterday that it would be forfeited?"
"Oh, yeah, I'll figure something out with the uni though. I can stay at a motel near campus until they can get me another room. I will call them in the morning."
"Why don't you move in with me at my house. There's plenty of room. You can stay for the whole semester if you like, that way you won't have to pay for a room. I would really like it if you stayed, it would make me feel more secure not being in my big house by myself, even if there is a lot of security and I'm sure both our parents and Max would like that idea. So what do you think? Will you stay?” Isabel asked Liz hoping she would say yes. It would be a great opportunity for them to get to know each other under normal circumstances, or as normal as possible considering Isabel’s fame.

Liz looked over to where Diane and Max stood and saw that Max was nodding his head in agreement with what Isabel was suggesting. Liz turned her gaze back to Isabel before making her decision.

Chapter 4

The door to Liz’s hospital room opened with a crash and the air was filled with an unearthly scream. Maria flew into the room and straight over to Liz, wrapping her in a warm hug and burst into tears.
“Oh my god, Chica! I thought I had lost you for good. I was so worried when your dad told us what had happened, but don’t worry they know your alright now, and don’t worry your mom and the baby are fine…”
“Maria, don’t you ever pause for breath?” Alex said affectionately from the doorway. He was carrying both his bags and Maria’s. When their cab had pulled to a halt outside the hospital, she had been out of the cab and going in the front doors of the hospital in a matter of seconds, leaving Alex to pay the driver and lug both their bags inside.
“Hey, how are you doing?” Alex asked Liz gently before hugging her to him, grateful that she was safe. Isabel witnessed how much Liz’s friends cared for her and again she wished that she had friends like Alex, Maria and Liz. It was clear how much they all cared for each other.
“Hey Alex, I'm fine.” Liz stated firmly deciding to put up a cheerful, positive front. In truth she felt dirty, violated from what Donnie had done to her. No one else knew what had happened to her and she was going to keep it that way.
Liz looked up and caught Isabel’s eyes, and for a moment Isabel thought she saw fear flicker across Liz’s brown eyes at the thought of what had happened but she couldn’t be sure because it was gone as quickly as it had come.
Maria turned to see who Liz was looking at and her jaw dropped in shock.
“Holy shit!” she looked back and forth between Liz and Isabel. “Liz, you know Isabel Evans?”
Maria continued to rant and rave, her voice getting shriller by the second. Dragging Liz to one side she spoke in a loud whisper.
“Liz, how come you are being so casual about this? This is Isabel Evans we are talking about here! She has won “Hottest Woman of the Year” for the last 3 years. We have seen all of her movies. She made $5 million on her last film which was number 1 in the box office for 8 weeks running! You’ve been in California for 5 minutes, you’ve met a major movie star, been kidnapped with said movie star and now you moving in with her?” Her voice was getting louder with each word. Seeing that Liz couldn’t deal with Maria at the moment Alex walked over to her and lead her out of the room giving Isabel an apologetic smile.
Isabel smiled back at the tall, brown haired man. He seemed to be a sweet, rational man, judging from the way he had treated Liz and the way he had handled the small blonde.
Isabel walked over to Liz and sat on the side of her bed. “I spoke to the doctor and he said hat you could go home this afternoon. Max is coming by and picking us up around 1pm.”
“Thank you Isabel. I was really worried that I wouldn’t make any friends when I moved to LA but you’ve been so great.”
“It’s the least I can do, especially since the kidnapping thing that wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for me. Don’t argue with me.” Isabel cut Liz off. “You wouldn’t have been kidnapped if it wasn’t for me, but I do know that I wont let it happen again. Max has organized a bodyguard to stay at home and to follow us around. So we will be safe. Get some rest, I will be back to take you home later.”
Liz smiled at Isabel before settling back and falling asleep.

Out in the waiting room Alex had calmed Maria down and they were talking quietly, in shock that someone could hurt Liz. Alex hugged Maria, comforting her after seeing Liz looking so tired and bruised. Isabel watched them for a moment and decided that Alec and Maria were just good friends, not in a relationship. For some reason that made her happy. She walked over to them and coughed to get their attention.
“Hey, how are you guys holding up after seeing Liz?”
“We’re fine, it was just a shock. How are you? You didn’t escape without injuries.” Alex replied, genuinely concerned as he studied the harsh bruising covering her cheek. Isabel was amazed that anyone could be concerned about someone hey didn’t know. She could tell by the way her was looking at her, his concern had nothing to do with her celebrity status.
“I'm alright, just worried about Liz, its my fault she is hurt.” Isabel said, feeling guilty that because of who she is, she had caused harm to come to her new friend.
“Don’t blame yourself, Isabel. Liz doesn’t, no one does, so you shouldn’t.” Alex told her sincerely.
Isabel didn’t know why but she felt better after hearing Alex’s words. A few people had told her it wasn’t her fault, including Liz, but when Alex said it, she believed him.
“Well seeing as its Liz’s first night at my place tonight, would you guys like to come over for dinner? Its nothing fancy, my mom and my brother will be the only other guests and I'm cooking.”
Maria spoke for the first time since Isabel had walked over to them. She was still star struck by Isabel but now instead of babbling, she was struck silent.
“That would be really great. Thank you. I'm sorry about before. I got a little crazy. Its just you are my favorite actress. You have been since you first started acting. Thank you for looking after Liz.” She started crying softly again. “I'm sorry. I'm just a little emotional right now.” Maria apologized.
Before Alex had a chance to comfort Maria, Isabel crouched down in front of her, putting her hand on Maria’s knee.
“Maria, you don’t have to apologize. It’s okay. Your best friend has been to hell and back. It shows how much you care about her.”
Alex leaned over to Maria and pulled her into a comforting hug.
“Why don’t you to check into your motel and get some rest? Liz is sleeping now and she doesn’t leave here until around 1pm. Come around to my place around 5pm. Liz will probably sleep the rest of the day so she will be fine by then. Okay?”
Isabel took charge. She gave Alex a piece of paper with her address on it and told them she would see them later.

Around 4:30pm Liz woke up with a start. She barely managed to hold in her scream. She looked around disorientated before the day’s events slowly came back to her. She was in her new room at Isabel’s house. Isabel’s brother had picked them up from hospital and she had been settled in to her new room. It was a large room with its own small bathroom leading off from one side of the room. There was a queen-sized bed in the middle of the room, the headboard of the bed leaning against one wall. To the right of the bed there was a door leading out to a small balcony overlooking the large swimming pool.
Liz was drenched in sweat and shivering. She had, had another nightmare. They came o her whenever she closed her eyes and tried to sleep.
She dragged herself out of bed and went to take a shower. Alex and Maria would be arriving soon and she didn’t want them to see her like this. She grabbed some things from her suitcase and went into the bathroom. The police had brought both her and Isabel’s suitcases to Isabel’s house after finding them in the trunk of the abandoned limo.
Liz undressed, careful to avoid any bruises, and climbed into the shower, the warm spray of water soothing her. It felt wonderful to wash her hair and rinsed the sweat and grime from her skin. It felt like it had been months since she had last had a shower. After a while Liz managed to drag herself out of the shower. She wrapped herself in a huge, soft towel and headed towards her room.

Isabel was running around the kitchen organizing dinner for the night. She looked at the clock and saw that it was 4:50pm. Her mom and Max had arrived 10 minutes ago and were now sitting in the spacious living room after Isabel had kicked them out of the kitchen.
“Are you sure I can’t help you with anything?” Max asked again.
“Umm…well you could go upstairs and see if Liz is ready. Thanks.”
“No problem.”
Max went up the large staircase and knocked on Liz’s bedroom door. When he got no response, he knocked again before entering the room.
Liz left the bathroom just as Max walked into the room. He stopped a stared for a moment, entranced. She was wrapped in only a towel. Her wet hair flowed down her back, drops of water running down her flesh before being absorbed by the towel. Steam from the bathroom followed her into the room, enveloping her, making it appear that she had a hazy glow about her. Her skin was marred with large bruises. Both of her arms had large round bruises on roughly the same part of her arms. Her right collarbone had a bruise that run down her chest and disappeared beneath her towel. Her legs seems like the only part of her body that had escaped harm, apart from a round bruise the size of a quarter on the left calf, where Max knew she had been stabbed with a syringe.
Liz caught sight of Max at the same moment he saw her. She gasped in surprise, tightening her towel around her self-consciously. Max was wearing dirty denim jeans and a shirt with a collar, unbuttoned just enough to leave you wanting to see more. Liz watched Max snap out of his trance and stutter out that Alex and Maria should be here soon and Isabel wanted him to check that she was okay before he turned and went hurriedly downstairs. His quick departure made Liz wonder if I was the sight of her numerous bruises had disturbed him so much to make him leave so quickly. With a sigh she continued to get ready for dinner.

Isabel had just sat down with her mother in the living room when Max entered the room hurriedly and sat down not saying anything, looking a bit flustered.
“Max, is she coming” Isabel asked impatiently.
“Yes” Max answered shortly.
Isabel was going to pursue her line of questioning but the doorbell rang and Max sighed in relief as she left the room to answer the door. Diane eyed Max, wondering about his strange behavior but didn’t say anything.
Isabel led Alex and an overwhelmed looking Maria into thee living room and introduced them to Diane and Max. Maria eyed Max with obvious lust. She hadn’t met him until just now. She was about to say something when the doorbell rang again. Isabel rose to her feet in surprise. She wasn’t expecting anyone else this evening. She warily started towards the front door.
“Its okay honey, I’ve got it.” Diane said seeing Isabel’s wariness.
A moment later a man rushed into the room, pausing a second until he caught sight of Isabel then he rushed straight over to her enveloping her in a hug.
“Isabel thank god your okay! Why the hell didn’t you call me? I had to find out from the television!” He raved.
“Michael, calm down. Im fine. I suppose you want to join us for dinner?” Her question was more of a statement than a question.
Michael just nodded and dropped down onto the couch next to Max. His ranting over so quickly and a cool exterior in its place making Alex and Maria wonder if they had imagined the whole thing.
When Michael had first entered the room Maria’s eyes had almost bulged out of her head and she was now practically drooling. Were all of the people in Isabel’s life amazing looking?
Liz made her way downstairs and entered the living room quietly. No one noticed her at first with all the commotion Michael was making. She stood in the doorway and just watched everyone for a few moments. Max was the first one to notice her and he smiled at her shyly. Then Maria saw her too and was across the room giving her a careful hug, before going to the couch to sit down.
The evening turned out to be a success though it ended early so Isabel and Liz could go to bed early. Maria hadn’t been oblivious to Max and Liz looking at each other, catching each other looking then looking away embarrassed before starting the process all over again. She made a mental note to talk to her about it later. Both Maria and Alex had to go home the next morning, they couldn’t afford to stay any longer and they both had jobs to get back to.
The goodbyes at the end of the night were tearful, mainly on Maria’s part, and they promised they would return to LA as soon as they could.

The next morning Liz came down stairs, still half asleep, to get some breakfast for herself and found a note from Isabel on the bench.

Liz,

I had to go on set today for some off camera work stuff. I didn’t want to leave you alone all day so Max will be over around 10am to keep you company seeing as he had the day off. I will see you when I get home.

Isabel

Liz looked at the clock just as she heard a key turn in the front door. It was 10am, and here she was standing in the kitchen wearing her fluffy ducky pajamas with her hair all over the place.
Max walked into the kitchen and grinned when he caught sight of her. “Cute.” He grinned at her. Liz glared at him playfully and stuck her tongue out at him before going upstairs to change.

They had been hanging around the house watching movies on the big screen television and joking around when the phone rang. Max picked it up and frowned before handing it over to Liz who was sitting on the couch next to him, her legs tucked under her, chewing on her bottom lip.
“Hello?” She said nervously, she was now apprehensive from the way Max had answered the phone.
“Liz…” Maria sobbed before dissolving into more tears.
Alex took the phone from Maria and braced himself for the news he would have to deliver to her.
“Liz, there’s been an accident. Im so sorry.” Taking a deep breath, he continued. “Your parents were driving to the hospital because your mom was having contractions and …”
Oh no the baby died Liz thought sadness building in her.
“…there was a car accident, a drunk driver. Both your parents, they died. Im so sorry Lizzy” Alex was now trying desperately to control the tremor in his voice. “Liz, the baby survived. I don’t know how it happened but she is alright. You have a baby sister.”
Liz dropped the phone at the news and sat in shock for a few moments before breaking down. Max had picked up the phone and heard the news from Alex. He finished the call and pulled Liz into his arms trying to comfort her even though it wasn’t going to happen any time soon. So many things had gone wrong for her since she moved to LA and now she was crying for the first time since the kidnapping, she cried for all that had gone wrong in the life in the last week and for her new sister who would have to grow up never knowing her parents. Max picked up the phone and made another call, still holding Liz close to him.

Max and Liz made it to Roswell hours later. The first place they went to was the Crashdown where they found Alex and Maria in the backroom. Both looking devastated. When they saw Liz they ran to her and the three hugged and cried while Max stood off to one side feeling out of place.

Enjoy!

Chapter 5

Liz stood in the hospital looking through the glass into the nursery, just staring at her beautiful baby sister. The name card on her crib only said “Baby Girl Parker.” She would have to come up with a name for her baby sister. Liz felt as though she was drowning in a sea of problems. There were so many things she had to do, to organize. The only thing, the only person getting her through it all was Max.
He had dropped all of his responsibilities in LA and rushed with her to Roswell, New Mexico to help her with everything. He was her rock.
Her parent’s funeral was tomorrow. It was so hard for her to accept that they were gone. Two of the most important people in her life and she would never get to see them again, never talk to them again, never tell them how much she loved them. She hadn’t even gotten to say goodbye.
“Liz…”
She looked up to see Max; he pulled her into a hug and wiped the tears from her cheeks. She hadn’t even realized that she was crying. She was at the point where she would end it all now if it weren’t for her sister. If she ended her life then that beautiful little girl would have no one.
“Charlotte.” Liz said, more to herself than to anyone else.
“What?” Max asked in confusion.
“I like the name Charlotte for my sister, Charlie for short. What do you think?” She asked, her voice barely more than a whisper.
“I think its perfect. Lets go see the nurse so we can take little Charlotte home.”

******

The bleak whether matched Liz’s mood on the day of the funeral. Most of it was a blur as she was lost in her own dark thoughts. Tears ran in a steady stream down her face as the priest continued his eulogy.
Charlotte had been left with a babysitter back at the Crashdown. Liz had decided to go back to LA with Charlotte so she could continue with her classes. She had spoken to Isabel on the phone the previous night and she had said it would be absolutely fine to have Charlotte living in the house too. After the funeral, Liz had to make a stop over at her parent’s lawyer’s office where she would listen to the reading of their will. She had spoken to a woman from social services regarding Charlotte about who her guardian would be. Liz had applied for guardianship and being Charlotte’s closest blood relative, she would probably get it.
A large cold raindrop landed on Liz’s cheek, mingling with her tears and waking her from her thoughts in time to hear the priest finish the final prayer. She stepped forward and lay a single white rose on each of her parent’s coffins before they were gently lowered into the ground. She felt strong arms wrap around her shoulders and hug her to a broad chest. Max had been so great to her over the last few days. He had taken over organizing everything letting her grieve for her parents.
“Are you ready to go?” He asked her opening his umbrella and holding it over them, sheltering them from the increasing rain.
Liz looked around and realized that they were the only ones left. She nodded and Max led her to the waiting car. Alex and Maria were already waiting for them knowing that Liz needed to be alone for a while and not have her friends make too much of a fuss over her.
The car pulled up in front of the apartment that Alex and Maria were sharing. Maria turned and faced Liz trying to give her a small smile.
“I will call you later, sweetie. I'm so sorry all of this has happened to you.” Maria whispered in Liz’s ear while giving her a hug. “I love you so much, and I am always here for you.” Giving Liz a quick kiss on the cheek, she got out of the car. Alex scooted over to where Maria had been and also hugged Liz.
“What she said.” He told her before joining Maria on the sidewalk.
“Thank you guys. I'm going back to LA tomorrow, I will call you then. I love you guys too, thank you for everything.” Liz said to her best friends, her voice cracking with emotion. Moments later the car was back in motion and heading towards the law offices of Bassett and Copple.
Max had stayed with Liz for everything whether she asked him to or not.
Though he stayed with her, he gave her space, not crowding her or constantly asking her if she was alright. Liz was grateful for all of Max’s support; he kept her from falling apart.
They pulled to a stop outside a large imposing building. They walked into the main foyer and took the elevator to the third floor. As the elevator doors opened Max instinctively took Liz’s hand in his and led her to the receptionist’s desk. After 10 minutes, they were led into the large office of Mr. James L. Bruin.
“Hello Miss Parker, I'm sorry for you loss.” Mr. Bruin “Now, your parents have left all of their possessions, including one Crashdown Café, to you and your baby sister, they had the will prepared with the baby in mind. Now they have also a section in here about the baby’s guardianship. They have given you first chance at accepting custody and if you don't want to do that then an Aunt of you mother had agreed to look after her. A Mara Thornton, she lives in…” he pauses to look at his notes before continuing “Boston.”
“No, I will look after her. I don't want her to live with some Aunt that I have never met all the way in Boston where I will never get to see her. I will manage.”
“Ok that’s settled then.”
The rest of the meeting went smoothly with Liz needing to sign a few documents at the end.

Liz had decided to hire a manager to run the Crashdown so she wouldn’t have to worry about it. It would also give her a constant income to rely on thought she didn’t know yet if it would be enough for her to raise a baby with.
They arrived home after an hour with the lawyer and walked in the door just as Charlotte let everyone know she was awake with an almighty scream. The babysitter walked into the living room where Liz and Max had just entered. Charlotte was kicking up a fuss and the sitter couldn’t get her to calm down.
Liz walked over to them and took Charlotte, rocking her gently and talking to her quietly. After a moment she stopped yelling and quieted. Liz thanked the sitter and paid her. She then walked into the kitchen and readied a bottle of formula with one hand, holding Charlotte in the other. Max stood in the doorway and watched them. He knew from that moment that she would be alright. He watched as a small smile crept on Liz’s face for the first time in two days as Charlotte started drinking the formula. “There you go Charlie. You were just hungry weren’t you?” She crooned in her ear.
Charlie just stared up at Liz; her big brown eyes a mirror image of Liz’s. Charlie looked a lot like Liz with the same olive complexion and chocolate brown hair. Liz smiled at Charlie again and she knew they would be okay, eventually.

******

The next day they finally arrived back in LA, though this time Liz didn’t get lost in the airport. Max led her to get their bags and carried them to the cab while Liz had Charlie strapped to her front in the baby carrier.
When they finally got home, Isabel answered the door before Max could get his key out. Isabel had taken the day off from filming knowing that Liz and Max where getting back.
She hugged both of them as they entered the house.
“Oh Liz, she is so beautiful. Charlotte is a perfect name for her! Can I hold her?” Isabel gushed at seeing Charlie for the first time.
“Sure. Do you want to feed her too?” Liz asked seeing Isabel’s excitement over seeing the baby.
“Oh that would be great!”
“I will fix up a bottle of formula for her then.” Liz took Charlie out of the carrier and gave her to Isabel. She went into the kitchen and returned a few minutes later with a bottle of formula. Once Isabel had settled down to feed Charlie, Liz went into the next room and sat down on the couch. Max followed her and sat down next to her.
“Thank you Max, for everything. You have been so great. You just dropped everything to be there for me. I really appreciate it.”
“Shh, that’s what friends are for.” Max replied; wishing they could be more than friends. Over the last week, he had fallen for her more and more. He had seen her strength of character and he knew she was a beautiful person on the inside and out. Many other people would have been defeated by what she had confronted. He reached for her and pulled her onto his lap and into his arms. She tensed at first before relaxing into his embrace. She sighed a little and snuggled into his chest before falling asleep in his arms, wishing that she could always fall asleep this way, but she knew he was just doing this because of what she had been through. There was no way someone who had grown up in LA could fall in love with her, the most ordinary of small town girls.

A few minutes later Isabel entered the room carrying the other sleeping Parker sister. She smiled when she saw Max and Liz curled up on the couch together. He looked up and smiled at her.
“She is really exhausted. She’s been through a lot over the last few weeks. I'm going to put her in bed.”
Max told Isabel getting up from the couch cradling Liz to his chest.
“Dad came back from his business trip a few days ago. I updated him on everything and he set up our old crib in Liz’s room. I will come up in a little while and put Charlie down for a nap.”
Nodding his agreement through a yawn Max walked upstairs and into Liz’s room. He placed her gently on her bed and when he tried to move off the bed, she tightened her grip on him. Max sighed and smiled at Liz’s sleeping form, then lay down on the bed next to her. When Isabel came upstairs to put Charlie down, she found them both asleep in each other’s arms. She lay Charlie in her crib and crept out of the room, closing the door behind her.

I hope you liked it! Feedback is a must! Please, if you have time, leave me some feedback. Any pointers or suggestions will help to make the story better! Thanks!

Chapter 6A

Max woke to find himself in a darkened room with something pressing down on his chest. He opened his eyes and looked down to see Liz sprawled across him.

He had woken up because she was squirming and struggling with an unseen assailant. She whimpered and tears were running down her cheeks and soaking his shirt.

Liz’s sobs increased until Max realized that she had woken up. He cradled her in his arms and whispered words of comfort in her ear, until she calmed down and fell back into a restless slumber.

Max didn’t fall into the release of sleep, however. He lay there in Liz’s bed holding her and wondering what had caused her to cry such wretched sobs. He considered the fact that she had lost her parent as a reason for her tears but disregarded that idea when he remembered that she been struggling before she woke up, like she was fighting someone off and trying to get away.

She never talked to anyone after the kidnapping. Did something happen to her that nobody knew about? Isabel had been unconscious for a while, maybe something had happened during that time.

He looked across the room to Charlie’s crib when he heard her snuffling cry. He slowly eased out from under Liz, hearing her sigh and roll over before settling down again. He went over to the crib in time to see Charlie open her big brown eyes and start crying.

Max leant over, scooped her up, and rocked back and forth to quiet her. He left the room after looking over at Liz to make sure she was alright. He entered the kitchen, flipping on lights as he went.

Isabel had unpacked all of Charlie’s things while they had been sleeping. This was the side of Isabel that very few people got to see. The thoughtful, sweet and caring Isabel that he knew in comparison to the “ice queen” persona she usually showed people would amaze the media.

He fixed up a bottle of formula and was feeding Charlie, who was gurgling contentedly, when Liz entered the kitchen.
“I was wondering where you two disappeared to.” She commented, surprising Max who hadn’t noticed her come in.

“Hey, I didn’t want to wake you.”
“You didn’t.” She replied shortly.
“Are you alright? You had a nightmare before.” Max inquired gently.
“I'm fine. Do you want any hot chocolate?” she asked trying to change the subject. Max nodded in reply before asking his next question.
“What happened when you were kidnapped? I heard Isabel’s version of events but not yours.”

“Nothing happened. Isabel and I experienced the same thing.” She lied, not looking at him. Instead focusing on the hot chocolate, she was making for them. Max didn’t believe her but let it go. She was just going to close herself off from him, making it impossible to get anything out of her, if he pushed the subject.

He looked down at Charlie who had fallen asleep and he removed the bottle from her small mouth and placed it in the sink. He looked up to catch Liz staring at him with a wistful smile on her face. It quickly disappeared when she saw him looking at her and she handed him his mug of hot chocolate.

She took Charlie from Max telling him she will be back in a moment as she does. Max sat at the kitchen table and stared into space, deep in thought. He would love to get to know Liz and sometimes it seems like she would like to get to know him, but then again she always seems like she is hiding something from him. She would talk with him about most things freely and with ease, but as soon as he mentions her first days in LA, she shuts down completely.

Liz joined him in the kitchen again and they sit in silence both trying to come up with something noncommittal to say. Finally, Max gave up, not wanting to have her shut him out again.
“I better go home. It’s really late and I have a class in the morning.”
“Yeah, I do too.”
“I’ll let myself out. I will see you later.”
“Goodnight.” Liz yawned.

******

Liz felt bad about constantly dodging his questions but she had too. She didn’t want him looking at her differently. If only she was the same girl, she had been only a few weeks ago. She knew that her and Max would be able to get along much better if she didn’t have all this emotional baggage, but it wasn’t something she could help.

She rinsed out the mugs and went upstairs and back to bed. The sheets smelt like Max. It was as though the Gods were teasing her, making her think of him constantly. She shook all thoughts of Max out of her head and tried to think about the day ahead of her. It was going to be her first official day at UCLA. It was a daunting thought. She didn’t know how she would cope around all those people.

Lately, since the kidnapping, she had become jumpy around big groups of people. The kidnappers had gotten away. They could be anywhere. When the police had gotten to the warehouse where her and Isabel had been held, they found nothing. Donnie, Gabe, and Raff had disappeared without a trace. She shivered and turned her mind from her dark thoughts.

At uni, Liz was going to be studying molecular biology. It had been her dream since she could remember. Isabel was going to take Charlie on set with her tomorrow as her assistant had said she would love to look after her as well as doing her other jobs. This let Liz be free to go to uni and to study without worrying about who was going to look after Charlie.

She only had one class the next day and it was in the morning, giving her the rest of the day off. She was going drop by the set and pick Charlie up on her way home. Her mind kept on racing with thoughts until it was too tired to continue and eventually she fell back into a deep slumber.

******

Max was also lying in bed, unable to sleep, a few miles from where Liz lay, in his own small apartment. His body was begging for sleep but his mind refused to shut down, instead it kept showing him images of Liz.

Cute images of her in the kitchen wearing her fluffy ducky pajamas, sexy images of her coming out of the bathroom wrapped in just a towel, steam all around her, and images of Liz smiling down at Charlie lying contentedly in her arms.

Max didn’t know how he was going to make it through his classes the next day; he would probably sleep through them. He was studying to be a pediatrician and was in his third year at uni.

Eventually Max fell asleep and night turned into day. He dragged himself out of bed and headed for the bathroom. After his shower, he dressed and left for uni. Once there he stopped at the on campus coffee shop for his morning cup of coffee. With coffee in hand, he looked around the room for a spare table. He stopped when he spotted a familiar face. Making a quick decision, he started towards her table.

“Hello, I didn’t expect to find you here.” He said with a grin.
“I could say the same for you.” Liz returned his smile.
“May I join you?”

Liz nodded her assent as she took a huge gulp of coffee before looking back down at the papers in front of her, a frown marring her face.
“What’s up? You’re looking perplexed.”
“Oh, I'm just going over some bills and stuff. I never realized how expensive everything was. I'm going to have to find a job waiting tables or something.”

“What about the money from the Crashdown and your inheritance?”
“Yeah, that helps to cover some of it but I still have to pay the employee’s wages at the restaurant plus all of the funeral costs and the doctors bills for Charlie and the lawyers bills, the list goes on.”

“Shit, that’s a lot of stuff to pay for. You’ll work everything out don't worry. I will even help you look for a job.” Glancing down before looking back at Liz, Max continued “I could even baby sit for you some time, I mean, if you want me to.”
“Thanks Max, I might take you up on your offer.” Liz smiled at him gratefully. “I have to go to class now. I will see you later ok?”
“Count on it.” Max replied grinning at her as she headed towards the main building.

******

At the end of Liz’s class, she gathered up her belongings and headed towards the student car park. There waiting for her was a cab to take her to the film studios, where Isabel was shooting her latest film.

The cab pulled to a halt at the front gates of the studio and Liz paid the driver. She walked up to the security guards booth and he checked her name against the guest list. When he confirmed that she was allowed to go in, he called ahead to the main building and a short time later another guard appeared to take her to where she was meant to be.

Liz entered a big building and watched in awe as what seemed like hundreds of people went about their business in a hurried fashion, running back and forth organizing everything and setting up for the next scene of the movie.

“Oh, Liz you’re here! Great. How was your first class?” Isabel exclaimed as she spotted Liz. “Charlie is in my trailer with Lucy, my assistant. Lets go and get them okay?” Isabel continued speaking, not giving Liz a chance to answer her questions.
“Sure. My day has been alright so far. Though I was surprised to find out Max and I go to the same uni.”
“Oh, I thought you knew.” She said as she opened the door to her trailer and ushered Liz inside.

It was fairly big and simply decorated though still stylish. There were two sections to the trailer, one a bedroom, the other a living area/kitchen with a bathroom. As they entered the trailer a young woman, who Liz assumed was Lucy, looked up from the table she was seated at. The table was on the far side of the room. Near by it was Charlie’s port-a-crib, where Charlie was currently asleep.

In front of Lucy was a large stack of letters and parcels. Isabel had already explained to Liz that Lucy was her personal assistant and she used Lucy for on set stuff as well as personal stuff. Liz assumed all of the mail was fan mail, judging from the amount of it.
“You must be Liz” Lucy smiled, getting up from her seat and offering Liz her hand. “I'm Lucy.”
