Part 1
I walk down the hallway, people wave, smile greet me. I just smile back. My dark brown hair flows across my shoulders and I can smell the shampoo I had used that morning.
I get to my locker, opening it to only be greeted with a bunch of flowers, white roses to be exact. I take them in my hand and smell them, and I close my eyes as the scent fills my nose, stimulating my sense’s.
I look around the hallway trying to the find the person that put these in my locker and when I don’t notice anyone suspicious I look at the flowers once more and notice a tiny white note attached to the stem of one of the flowers.
I feel myself get excited and a goofy grin line of my face as I open the little white card in my hand.
Liz,
You are a little bundle of joy, just like these flowers. I love you.
Dad
I feel the smile slide off my face and I stuff the card back into the flowers. I am destined to have a terrible life I think as I stuff the flowers into my locker after I grab my books.
Why does my father have to work in this school? Couldn’t he have gone somewhere else. I should have known he was going to ruin my life working here.
Walking down the hallway, I see Maria at her locker. “Maria, hey!” I yell as I walk over to her.
“Hey hun, what’s up?” She asks as she too opens her locker and a bunch of flowers spring out.
I notice the smile form on her face as she looks at the flowers adoringly. I groan as she takes them out and looks for a note just as I did. Finally she finds one and she looks at me anxiously.
“I wouldn’t bother reading it Maria.” I tell her knowing that it was from my father, he always felt like Maria was a daughter to him since she was always over our house.
She doesn’t listen to a word I say as she opens the little white card. The next thing I hear is her voice reading the card out loud.
I slap myself on the forehead ready to hear her disappointment and I’m ready to see her smile disappear.
“Okay it says, Maria. I know that we haven’t really talked but I was wondering if you would go out with me. Michael.” Maria says and I stand there looking dumbly at her.
I see and hear her squeals and excitement as I grab the card out of her hand. Looking it over making sure she read it right I look at her and smile.
“Liz can you believe this, Michael and me. I mean I have been in love with him for whole long?” Maria squeals.
“Five years.” I answer her with a monotone voice.
“What was that?” She asks and I’m surprised she even heard me.
“Five years.” I say again.
“Five years?” She questions me and I groan.
“You’ve been in love with Michael for five years.” I say to her as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Oh yeah.” She says as she grabs onto my arm and keeps talking to me about how great Michael was.
“Michael is some sorta God, huh?” I mumble to myself, hating that Maria got flowers from some guy, when I got them from my father.
Let’s throw up now.
“What was that?” Maria asks looking at me.
“Nothing.” I say to her wondering when she got these good hearing skills. It must have come with the whole Michael package.
We walk into our homeroom and my eyes quickly scan the room, looking for one person. At first I don’t see him anywhere and I know that I was going to be stuck hearing Maria talk about Michael .
Then I see his dark hair pop up from under a desk and I thank God for bringing my savior to me.
“Maria, I got to go.” I say running over to Max grabbing onto his arm.
“Save me.” I say to him ducking behind him.
“Umm…Liz are you okay?” Max asks a grin on his face.
“No you have to save me.” I tell him quickly, holding onto his shoulder.
“From?” He asks.
“Maria, who else.” I say as if it was common sense.
The thing I hear though is Max’s laughter. The deep, musical noise vibrating throughout the room. Some people notice and quickly take notice of him but then they get back to their friends.
“Of course Maria.” He said glancing over his shoulder to me, a smile still on his face from his laughing session. “What happened now?” He asks.
I look at him wondering if I should tell him but then I shrugged my shoulders and figured what the hell.
“Well I found flowers in my locker, you know nice white roses, but guess who they were from?” I ask him my voice asking him to guess.
“Umm…Sean.” He says.
“No.” I say wrinkling my nose at the thought of getting flowers from him and I see Max smile.
“I don’t know your father.” He says with a little laugh and when I don’t answer, he looks at me. “You got flowers from your father.” He says and I nod my head and he is laughing again.
“Shut up.” I say smacking his shoulder over and over again until he stopped. “That’s not the point though.” I tell him as his laughter dies down.
“Okay, okay, I’m better now. So what’s up with you and Maria.” Max asked finally.
“I don’t know if I want to tell you anymore.” I say closing my eyes and crossing my arms across my chest., looking towards the opposite way.
“Come on Liz.” I hear him say, sliding out of his chair. I feel his hands rustle between my arms and start to tickle me.
I try to hold in the laughter but I couldn’t stop the smile, and then the laughter. I felt tears come to my eyes as my laughter proceeded. “Okay, okay. I’ll tell you.” I said to him through a fit of laughter.
“Good.” He said standing in front of me. “You can proceed now.” He said moving his hands around as he talked.
“Yea well Maria got some flowers too, and I thought they were from my father when actually they were from Michael and now she won’t stop talking about him. I swear she’s going to talk my ears off.” I said quickly, breathing as I stopped.
Max just stood there for a second. I couldn’t believe he couldn’t see the problem here.
“So let me get this straight.” He tells me with a grin. “You get flowers from your father. Maria gets flowers from Michael, which you thought from you father too. Then Maria won’t stop talking about Michael.” He says to me.
“Exactly.” I see as if it was obvious as to why I was hiding from Maria.
Max just stares at me, no words, just a small smile. His chestnut eyes piercing mine, as he just stands there.
I watch him not doing anything, not saying anything and get slightly agitated. “Okay fine max don’t help me in my time of need.” I say as I start to walk away. “I’ll just find a new best friend.” I tell him as I walk over to Maria.”
It was then that I heard his laughter. His eyes shone brightly, a mischievous twinkle added in the depths of his eyes.
“What are you laughing at?” I ask slightly angry. I could never stay angry at long at Max.
“You.” Was all he answered simply.
“Any reason?” I ask him as he stands there.
“Only over the fact that your jealous of Maria.” He says walking up to me.
“I am not jealous.” I say shocked that he would even think that. I am never jealous of anyone, okay well maybe that’s a lie.
“Oh yea you are.” He says as he still makes his way over to me.
“Nuh uh.” I say to him shaking my head not looking him in his eyes.
I can feel him prowl around my body finally stopping in the back of me. I feel his mouth next to my ear and a little whisper come from his lips.
“You are so jealous.” He says to me and I can feel his grin.
“Okay fine I am.” I say not wanting to argue any longer. “Why the hell does Maria get a boyfriend? I want one.” I say stomping my foot on the ground like a child.
“Liz you have no reason to be jealous of anyone.” He says with a grin making his way in front of me.
“And why’s that?” I ask as I see him stand in front of me.
“Because you got me.” He tells me shinning his pearly whites.
I smile and laugh slightly. “Believe me Max, I think you are one too many guys to handle.” I say as I hear the bell ring and see the teacher walk into the room.
Tbc..??
