Chapter 1

Quotes: From "Graduation"

Song: Edge Of The Ocean by Ivy

There's a place I dream about
Where the sun never goes out
And the sky is deep and blue.
Won't you take me there with you.

Ohhh, we can begin again.
Shed our skin, let the sun shine in.
At the edge of the ocean
We can start over again.

shaa nah nah nah nah nah nah
sha nah nah
sha nah nah
shaa nah nah nah nah nah nah
sha nah nah
sha nah nah

There's a world I've always known
Somewhere far away from home
When I close my eyes I see
All the space and mystery
Ohhh, we can begin again

Shed our skin, let the sun shine in
At the edge of the ocean
We can start over again

sha nah nah nah nah nah nah
sha nah nah
sha nah nah
sha nah nah nah nah nah nah
sha nah nah
sha nah nah

Oohhh, we can begin again
Shed our skin, let the sun shine in
At the edge of the ocean
We can start over again
At the edge of the ocean
we can start over again

sha nah nah nah nah nah nah

The Crashdown

‘I'm not religious, but I've been to church. I know right from wrong. And I know it's wrong to benefit in any way from someone else's passing. But I won't deny that Tess' death has freed me. Like a dark shadow passed over the sun before the light came flooding back. It's a brand new day, full of possibilities and hope. I haven't felt like that in a long... long time. It's different for Max. He lost more than his son. He lost a sense of direction to his life, a sense of purpose. He puts up a brave front, but... I know.’

“What're you still doin' here? Got it hot for some local waitress?“ Liz asks as she sees Max lower his head for a moment and then look back at her with a forced smile. How she hated seeing him like that. Defeated. It was definitely a character that didn’t suit him well.

“That's the rumor. ...Have you heard from Northwestern yet?” Max answers, changing the subject to a lighter to be less obvious of his depression.

“Still waiting...” Liz answers, lowering her head. In reality, she hadn’t really noticed that her acceptance letters haven’t arrived, unlike her father, who was practically glued to the mailbox whenever it was time for the mail to arrive.

“You must be nervous.” Max added taking a sip from his coffee cup. He had been sitting up at the counter for about four hours and been getting constant refills of black coffee laced with Tabasco sauce, by his fifth cup he started to sip the coffee instead of swallowing it quickly. She wondered if he was using his powers to warm it back up and then looked around and saw that the place was practically deserted which was safe for him to do so.

“...I'm trying to handle the whole college acceptance thing with grace and aplomb.“ Liz replied finally hearing his question through all her random thoughts.

'Aplomb'?” Max repeated with a smile. Liz was definitely smart, as he should know since they were in practically every A.P. class together that West Roswell High had to offer. He remembered when they were back at Michael’s place and she told him to stop pretending that he didn’t know what they were studying, he replied to her that ‘it was all a mystery’, just as Liz was to him. Always surprising him with something new that made him fall more in love with her.

“Yeah...” Liz blushed in embarrassment as she bit on her lower lip “…it's an SAT word that I can't get out of my head. It's slowly driving me crazy.”

“Liz.” Max called out seeing her head snap up at the sound of her name. “What if I came with you to Northwestern?” Max offers with hoe in his eyes. He knew they both had great chances into going to college, but he never actually considered going given the circumstances that haunted them. But now to actually see Liz striving to continue living a normal life, he couldn’t help but wanting one too…with her beside him and all she had to do was say ‘yes’ but he noticed how Liz hesitated to answer and knew he was about to hear the opposite of what he was hoping for.

“Max... if you think that's something that you seriously think you could or would do, then fine. We'll... we'll talk about it. But otherwise... please don't put me through the whole emotional roller coaster?” Liz pleaded. Max looked down at his coffee and nodded, understanding why she would hesitate.

The Next Night

‘The trouble with making plans for the future... even when you can see the future... Is that fate has a way of intervening... and upsetting 'the best laid plans of mice and men.' Robert Burns, 1785. That was on the SAT, too.’

“So, you're clairvoyant now?” Maria asked confused as well as surprised as they walked back to wait for Michael to cook up their orders. Liz had briefly gone over the details of last nights’ bizarre events, but didn’t really let the information sink in since Liz told her over the phone at two o’clock in the morning while she was still half asleep.

“I'm not clairvoyant. It only happened once.” Liz said with a modest smile.

“All right, do you think you can tell me what's going to happen between me and Space Boy?“ Maria pouted anxiously as she held her order pad and pen closely to her in anticipation that Liz had the power to foresee the path to their drawbridge relationship. Then Michael came up to the order window and dropped the small basket of on the steel counter, looking back and forth at them with a skeptical frown before returning to the grill.

“It's probably beyond my capabilities.” Liz answered trying to keep a stern look without breaking into a laugh.

“Yeah. Tell me about it. Well... at least... we'll always have each other, right?” Maria asked with a hint of panic in her voice.

“Yeah, of course we will.” Liz answered taken back by the unexpected question of doubt. She took her order to her table passing Kyle along the way as well as the smell of sewer that engulfed him as he finished up his lunch, making sure she commented on the horrible stench as she walked past him. When she turned to head back for her Orbit Rings, Liz's dad comes into the room from the kitchens swinging aqua door holding up a letter and suddenly Liz couldn’t breath knowing exactly what he held in his hand was about to change the rest of her life as soon as she opened it.

“From Northwestern University.” Her father breaks the worried silence and steps forward a little seeing Liz was paralyzed at the sight of the letter.

“An acceptance letter?” Kyle asks watching the whole scene with sadness.

“Well, either that, or a dig letter.” Liz replied still hesitating to take the letter from her dad’s hand. The whole nervous occasion was interrupted by Michael, who suddenly rung the order bell. Liz and her Dad both turn to give Michael a look.

“Sorry.” Michael apologized for the intrusion after receiving piercing looks from Liz and her dad and then tossed another basket on the steel counter. “Your orbit rings are ready.” Michael announces before walking back to the grill. Liz's dad takes a deep sigh and hands the letter to Liz. As she reaches to take it, she touches his hand and has another flash and sees it is an acceptance letter.

“I've been accepted!!” She cheers as she turns to look at Kyle.

“You haven't even opened it yet!” Her dad says with an amused laugh on Liz’s positive aspect on the situation. Liz mentally kicks herself for almost exposing her new power and looks cautiously at her dad to see if he suspected her but saw he waited anxiously, relieved her cover was not blown she starts to open the letter, pulls out the folded letter and begins to read. Focusing on one word, ‘Congratulations’.

“I did, I got in!” She exclaimed as her father rushed to hug her while Maria and Kyle looked on with different sadnesses.

‘One of my men picked this out of the rubble a couple of nights ago.’

‘Is she the... thing... that destroyed our base?‘

‘Possibly.’

‘There are several candidates.‘

‘Can the Special Unit... deal with this?‘

‘The Special Unit no longer exists...’

‘Neither does this meeting...’

‘Right. When this is over... these creatures will never bother anyone ever again.’

Michael's Apartment

Song: Inside You by Stabbing Westward

“Congratulations.” Max congratulates breaking their kiss with Liz sitting on his lap as they made out on the couch.

“You said that already.” Liz said with a smile.

“Oh.” Max answer and continues to kiss her.

“But I like the way you say it.” Liz adds making Max smile feeling confident by Liz’s confession.

“You 'college' girls.” Max comments.

“Hey, we wanna be loved for our minds, not our bodies.” Liz comments with a playful attitude as Max just smiled and nodded. “Are you serious? You know, about wanting to come with me?“

“I've never been more serious.” Max answers brushing her hair back. He then moves his other hand up under her shirt to caress her waist and back. “What a great... mind... you have.” Max flirts feeling Liz’s body coat with Goosebumps at his touch.

“Oh, I don't think that's my mind.” Liz informs him as she moves her hands around his neck. “But keep looking, I'm sure you'll find it.”

“Really.” Max answered taken back by her husky tease.

“Uhm hum.” Liz answers as she shifts her positions making Max's playful expression turn serious. “Remember I can tell the future? And tonight... your future... looks very... very... bright.” Liz advises coyly as she slowly pushes Max back into the cushions.

He closes his eyes as she bends down to kiss him, sliding his hands further up her back feeling the bumps of her bra as he brushed his hands up and down her back. Liz baked away from the kiss as Max slid his hands out as her body got out of range and then looked at her stunned when she gave him the most seductive smile she had ever given him and raised her arms behind her head as strip of her stomach was revealed by the movement. Max took his cue and lifted her shirt from the edges of her black cotton top above her head and tosses it carelessly on the side of them and sits back in admiration as he marveled at her never before seen black cotton bra. Liz couldn’t help but smile at his curiously innocent gaze and took the next step of taking his hands and placing them on her breasts. Max seemed almost frightened or more nervous than he had ever looked as he just held his hand on her for a moment before actually tightening his grip causing Liz to moan at the touch as she closed her eyes enjoying the feeling of Max touching her, knowing deep down inside after all her flashes that he had desired to explore her as much as he could.

“Liz I think we should stop now before I lose the strength to stop myself later.” Max advised as Liz watched as his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down from the heated swallow he took that caused his growing erection to throb anxiously against his jeans.

“Max, I don’t want you to stop.” Liz confesses and then hooks her arm behind her to gather her loose hair and flipped it between her shoulder and neck as she unfastened her bra and slid it off shyly, feeling him grip tighter at her waist as she sat half naked right in front of him. Liz blushed shyly as she bit her lip, letting her hair cover the side of her face, but then felt Max’s finger tuck the shielding strands behind her ear and then his hand slide behind her head pulling her down into a kiss as his hands experienced the softness of her bare back and the brushes of her breasts against the skin of his neck. He then felt the soft touches of her fingertips trying to pull his maroon shirt over his head and helped her by pulling on the collar of his shirt and swooping it off, tossing the shirt on the side over her shirt. Liz smiled at his chiseled chest, tracing every cut with her fingertips, remembering how Michael had seemed fit but the night Michael stayed over, while Max and Maria were on their quest to find Enigma, he had slept without his shirt and remembered thinking that Max had definitely won her vote on best physique. Not that there was anything wrong with Michael, but feeling Max’s body was a definite turn on.

“What are you thinking?” Max asked noticing she dazed off still looking at his chest though.

“Oh, uh, just glad that you and Michael don’t work out together.” Liz confessed snapping back into reality.

“You’re thinking about Michael right now?” Max asked penciled.

“No. No. I was just admiring your body and…”

“So…you like my body?” Max asked curiously watching Liz lower her head as she bit her lip in embarrassment and nodded ‘yes’.

“Do you like my body?” Liz asked softly feeling a little self-conscious. Max smiled and slid one hand across her back lifting them up with his knees and used his free hand for support on the couch seat cushion as he lowered her on her back and stretched himself over her.

“I ‘love’ your body.” Max admits seeing Liz blush as Max leaned on his side to get another glance of it and then rested on top of her again.

“You haven’t seen ‘all’ of my body.” Liz whispered huskily in his ear making all the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.

I feel your lips
I taste your skin
I need to know
I need to feel you from within

Max sat up and began unbuttoning her pants with trembling fingers and then removed them with panties and all, admiring her heated V-shape as he began to tackle his own pants and boxers and kicking them to the side. Liz laid wide-eyed at the size of his arousal before he climbed back on top of her, positioning himself between her. Max sensed her tense up and looked up at her to see if she was getting sudden regrets but his assumptions were washed away, by Liz’s lips that began to intensify the kiss she sprung on him. Liz moaned louder at the feeling of Max’s arousal rubbing against her heat, instinctively causing her hips to lift up closer to him.

as your blood burns through my skin
I feel complete
I breathe you in
it's where you end and I begin
if only I could stay here... forever

‘Ah.’ Max mouthed with no sound at the feeling and then adjusted his head past her wet folds. That warm feeling was enough to send him off the roof, but he then felt Liz stir underneath him anxiously lifting her hips again. “Don’t Liz. You’re going to hurt more that way.” Max advised as he placed his hand on her tummy seeing Liz’s pleading expression and couldn’t resist anymore. He hooked her leg with his hand and tucked the other under her neck and then looked down at their intimate connection before he looked into her sparkling urging eyes and pushed past her resisting muscles, causing her to moan louder than he had ever heard her or than he had ever made her.

so much to tell you
so much to give you
so much to confide
now that I'm inside you

Max trembled at the feeling of being inside her, breathing heavy in her ear and kissed the crook of her neck as he felt her plant soft butterfly kisses on his shoulder as she shook underneath him. “You okay?” He asked resting on his elbows as he kissed her lips, getting a nod from her and began rocking back and forth inside of her. He started off slow, but the sensation of going deeper inside her drove him wild causing him to increase his speed. Liz lifted her chin in the air feeling Max lips and tongue on it and trail down her neck, noticing how tiny she appeared underneath him.

we are flesh
we are one
so why do I
feel so much guilt for what I've done?
as your blood burns through my skin
I feel release
I breathe you in
it's where you end and I begin
if only I could stay here... forever

so much to teach me
so much to show me
so much to give me
so much to tell me

now that I'm inside
now that I'm inside

“You okay? You okay?” He asked repeatedly again getting another nod from her as they began to kiss more deeply and he rocked more rhythmically in her.

inside you
inside you
inside you

Max then felt her shivering walls about to erupt driving him to move faster and harder to hear her scream in pleasure and that he did. Her moan spilled into his mouth and pooled with his as he caved in right after.

so much to tell you
I'm inside you
so much to show you
I'm inside you
so much to give you
I’m inside you
so much to confide
now that I'm inside you

“You okay?” He asked again feeling Liz shivering uncontrollably underneath him with her legs and hand coiling around him tightly as she struggled to regain her breath.

“Mmm hmm.” Liz answered as tears streamed down the sides of her face. “I wanted this for so long.” Liz confessed as Max kissed her.

“You don’t know how long I’ve wanted you…needed you like this.” Max admitted as he brushed the beads of sweat off her forehead as she cupped his cheeks.

“Well, now you have me.” Liz confessed as they hugged.

Liz’s Balcony

Max climbed over the ladder and turned back to see Liz coming up behind him. When she lifted her leg to hop over she winced at her soreness between her legs and felt Max’s arms wrap around her. “Liz, I can make it go away.” Max offered swaying side to side with her.

“I don’t want the feeling to go away.” Liz admitted as Max sat on the lawn chair and pulled her to sit on his lap. “I want to remember that it was you inside me that caused this feeling.” Liz said running her fingers through his hair and kissing him lightly on the lips. As they kiss, Liz suddenly has flashes of Max, Isabel, Michael, and herself being shot. She sits up gasping while Max looked at her with concerned.

“What?” Max asked.

“We're all going to be killed.” Liz answered frightened.

I promise you that they'll be minimal amounts of angsty, but none as of yet, so please, oh, please keep reading. Yes, I will be updating...a lot. The ideas are just flowing in this one, I haven't given my Words program a break :D .

Chapter 2

Michael's Apartment

“It was terrible. We were all killed, I saw it.“ Valenti, Kyle, Isabel, Jesse, Maria, and Michael listen as Liz explained what had just happened.

'All', as in everybody?” Maria asked concerned.

“Max, Isabel, Michael, and...me.” Liz informs them as she crosses the room to stand by Max trying to avoid looking at Michael’s couch. Even though Max had taken care of the traces of their loving making with his powers, she still knew what had happened and couldn’t help but blush when she would think about it.

“I dream we all get whacked every other night. Why the meeting?” Michael questioned not seeing the urgency.

“Liz started to have premonitions... from... touching people.” Max answers feeling Liz shift on her feet from her self-consciousness. “Uhm... she saw a woman about to be killed in an armed robbery. We followed them, and we were able to stop it.”

“You believe it? You think this could really happen?“ Jesse asked as he stroked his chin.

“I think we should all take this seriously.” Max advises.

“Okay, so, where do we get popped, when do we get popped, and who pops us?” Michael asks as he crosses the room.

“I don't know. The flashes were sort of impressionistic.“ Liz answers following Michael in place.

“We need more information.” Valenti says as he crosses to where Michael was originally standing.

“Where were you? Where were you when you had the flashes?“ Isabel asks.

“Here.” Max answered.

“You said you got these flashes from touching people?“ Kyle questioned.

“We were--...I was...'touching people’.” Liz answered rolling her eyes in embarrassment seeing they all get the hint that Max and her were fooling around.

“How cozy.” Maria comments, embarrassing Max and Liz even further.

“I...think we should just focus on what we do next.” Isabel suggests trying hard to keep from smiling.

“Right. We should all stay on guard. Ah...Liz and I will attempt to...ah...” Max trailed off not wanting to put Liz anymore on the spot then she already was.

“Achieve another flash?” Kyle finished for him.

“It seems like the thing to do.” Max answers timidly with a shrug, as he avoids not making any eye contact with anyone.

Outside Michael’s Apartment

Everyone sees that the plan is set and start heading out of Michael’s apartment with the exception of Michael and Maria who began discussing over their appointment the next day with Madame V. Liz and Max headed towards Max’s Chevelle that was parked a little further then everyone else’s car. Kyle and Valenti headed for their truck and Jesse and Isabel headed to Jesse’s Sidan. Liz walked between Max and the parked cars, hand-in-hand, happy that their alien assignment was to achieve another flash, which meant most kissing and touching for them. Suddenly a black 1979 Chevy van pulled off quickly and stopped beside Max and Liz. The doors swung opened and three men hopped out.

“Help!” Liz yelled, getting the rest of the groups attention, witnessing as one of them carried Liz over their shoulder while the other two dragged Max into the back of the van.

“Max!” Isabel yelled being block from shooting range as Valenti, Kyle and Jesse ran towards the van. Kyle more adapted to running, was the closest to the car before it screeched off into the night.

“No!” Kyle yelled as he saw the van getting away. “Falcons. Jerseys. 49ers. Falcons. Jerseys. 49ers.” Kyle repeated as his father and Jesse made it to him. “I got the license plate. Falcons. Jerseys. 49ers.” Kyle repeated as he snatched the pen from Jesse’s shirt pocket and wrote down the letters and numbers that he memorized. “F-J-4-0-9.” He said showing them what was written in his palm.

Michael’s Apartment

“Michael!” Isabel came storming in hysterically before falling to her knees. “They took Max!” Isabel cried as Michael rushed to her side. “They took Max and Liz!”

“Who did?” Maria asked frightened.

“They were dressed in suits so…”

“FBI.” Michael finished Valenti’s assumption with an angry tone.

“I thought the Special Unit was finished by Nasedo?” Kyle asked.

“He died. Someone else had to take over.” Michael answered as he paced back and forth and then threw the glass that was on the counter across the room, scarring everyone by the loud shatter, in frustration with himself for not taking Liz’s premonition more seriously. “Damn it!” He yelled.

“Michael, stop it. You’re scarring us.” Isabel said crying in Maria’s arms as she cried as well.

“Who ever took them had to be someone that has just recently met you.” Valenti suggested. “That van was a civilian vehicle, now if I was still a Sheriff, I could have traced who it belong to.”

“Don’t have to be a Sheriff.” Michael answered.

Song: Disappear by Greenwheel

You don’t see
You never have, you never will
What do you believe
These images are unforgiving
Jealousy always running through your veins
You cannot breathe
Here’s your witness everything’s not right
Where did you go
You forgot about all you’ve left behind
It’s all on the table
And you wonder why you can’t hurt any more
Your emotions just can’t be seen in light
You’re lost in here
You just disappear
You deny the pain that overcomes deep inside
You’ve kept it there too long
Grayest skies, answers bleeding through
Sunlight, cast its shadows over all

Chapter 3

Chevy Van

“Where are you taking us?” Max asked as they tied his and Liz’s hands behind them with black plastic box strips.

“Gag ‘em.” One of the men orders. Max and Liz watched frantically as a guy pulls out a roll of duct tape and stretches out the starting piece, making a loud ‘zip’ sound as the tape was yanked and cut, then placed over their mouths. Liz and Max pressed closer to each other as they sat frightened on the floor, feeling every bump and swerve the van took, until the van jerked to a halt and the men swung open the doors, hopping off while a set of two men pulled Max and Liz from their arms and slammed them on hospital gurneys.

Liz felt her faces pressed up against the rough plastic only being able to see the back of Max’s head and the hands of the men that rolled his gurney into a cold damp hallway. Liz felt as if she were in the Crashdown’s basement, smelling the nauseating stench of wet pipes and floor wax. Being of short height, 5’3”, she laid in the center of the gurney, only seeing the flickering light beams above her that came in patterns of light-no light -light - no light.

Max on the other hand was almost 6’ 2” and his head hanged off the top of the gurney. All ready in a state of déjà vu, it wasn’t until he seen eagle emblem on the floor that reality hit where they were going. “MMmmm…NNNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!” Max screamed forcing the tape off by stretching his mouth wide. “NNNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!” Max screamed again from the top of his lungs as he struggled to get free, accidentally kicking Liz’s gurney with such force that it collapsed and caused her to fall to the floor, landing right on her stomach and knocking the wind out of her.

Liz curled up on the cold floor and hooped her bound has under her feet to get her hands in front her so she could remove the tape from her mouth. “Uhhh.” Liz sucked in as much air as she could and then forced herself to sit up. Looking side to side in fear she noticed that they were in the center of a long corridor, one end had a steel gray door and the other had a transparent security door at the far end. The two guards that were wheeling Liz in picked her up and held her tight as the other two attempted to regain control of a hysterical Max. She looked down at the floor and noticed the gold eagle emblem as well, from the picture at the UFO Center, and then finally understood why Max had been so frightened. They were taking them back to Eagle Rock Military Base.

“NNNNNNOOOOOO!!!!! NNNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!” Max continued to scream. Liz watched as the men struggled to grab a hold of Max but he was squirming so much that he slipped out of their hands again and fell to the floor. From all the screaming that Max was doing, Liz barely heard the buzzard and the shifting of the security door as it opened. A suited, lean man in his mid 30’s and early stages of male pattern baldness walked up indifferently to Max with his hands behind his back and grinned. Max’s resistance stopped at the sight of the man and turned his head slightly to the side, looking at him in confusion and then in recognition. “You.” Max softly whimpered when he finally recognized him. “Let me go! Let me go!” Max demanded as he began to thrash about again. The thin man looked around at the four men grinning and then punch Max across the jaw.

“No!” Liz screamed, struggling to get to Max, who was bleeding from his lip on the floor, but one man step out facing her and prevented her from going any further as the man behind her held on to her arm.

“Should have grabbed you when I had the chance.” The thin man bullied lifting Max back up so he could look him in the eye. “No cheap towny maneuver to get you out of this one?” He asked.

“What is it that’s killing you? That you got out smarted by a ‘towny’ teenager or that you had to bargain with one in order to cover your ass?” Max asked boldly, seeing that the question aggravated the thin man. The man took a deep breath and then looked over to Liz. A sudden sweat of panic engulfed Max, fearing that his sarcastic remark was about to taken out on Liz, but he was wrong. The thin man looked back at Max, unbutton his blazer, slipping it off and then tossing it on the gurney Max was being wheeled on. He removed his 9mm from his taffy colored holster and pressed it up against Max’s face. Max forced himself to keep a straight face as he felt the barrel of the gun bruising him as it pressed up against his cheek.

‘He’s just intimidating him.’ Liz thought and prayed to herself, but then the thin man grabbed the middle of his pistol and pistol wiped Max across the face. “No! No!” Liz cried out as she reached out to grab a hold of the thin man to prevent him from hitting Max any further, but she was pushed and pulled back by the men hold her. The thin man walked around Max, securing his pistol in his holster, as he surveyed Max in admiration of the damage he was inflicting on him and was pulled out a small rod that was fastened on his ankle. Max looked up at Liz for a moment in shame, as his thick dark blood dribbled out of his mouth, and then watched as the thin man jerked the rod down, opening it further to make it double in length and began lashing at Max with it. “No! Please! No-ho-o!” Liz cried out looking away, not barring to see Max beaten in front of her eyes and her not being able to help. “Let go of me!” Liz yelled in a gravelly voice, the thin man signaled for her release, which they abided by throwing her down on her knees in front of Max. “Max?” Liz called out as she stretched out her shaking hand to touch Max’s bloody face. But before she could actually touch his skin, the thin man took a side step and kicked Liz in the center of her stomach. “Uh.” Liz exhaled violently as she gripped to her aching stomach and coughed heavily from the blow.

“Take them away.” The thin man ordered. The four men nodded, dragging Liz her arms and Max by his feet in the direction of the security door, seconds after they were on the opposite side and dragged further into the facility.

Chapter 4

Roswell Sheriff Station

“How many times did you break into this place, Michael?” Isabel asked as she climbed up the drainpipe behind Michael and waved her hand over the lock, unlocking the window grate that covered the windows.

“More times then Valenti’s been here.” Michael answered, swinging the window grate over and climbed inside and then helped Isabel after him, and then quickly rushing to stop the security alarm with his powers before it went off. He then pulled out Isabel’s cell phone and dialed Maria’s cell. “We’re in.” Michael whispered when Valenti picked up the phone.

‘Go to the computer and turn it on. The first thing you should see is a log-in screen. The log-in name is already saved but the password is ‘Chuck Norris.’

“What the hell type of password is that?” Michael questions and then looks over to Isabel who has her hands on the keyboard ready to type. “Passwords ‘Chuck Norris’.” Michael said seeing Isabel question it with a penciled look. Isabel typed in the password and watched as a menu appeared and then looked back at Michael. “Okay, now what?”

‘Click on the ‘Vehicle’ option and go under search and then type in what we have about the van.’

“Vehicle. Search. Put ‘F-J-4-0-9’. Black. 1979. Chevy.” Michael guided as Isabel typed each description, when she hit the search key a screen popped up with an image of a man along with his personal information. “Print it.” Michael ordered. Isabel hit the print key and they both hovered over the printer impatiently waiting for the information to print out. Once it did, Michael folded the sheet and shoved it into his back pocket as Isabel shutdown the computer and headed out the window as Michael re-activated the alarm and followed her out. Isabel locked the window grate and they both climbed in and took of in Max’s Chevelle. “Hey, we got it. We’re on our way there.”

Michael’s Apartment

“What did you find out?” Valenti asked holding his hand out for the print out of the Chevy. Michael pulled it out from his back pocket and handed it over to him, Valenti unfolded the sheet and began to scan down the sheet with Kyle and Maria looking over his shoulder. “Do you guys know this guy?” Valenti asked pointing to the print out.

“Never heard of him.” Michael said shaking his head.

“So what’s the plan?” Kyle asked.

“We pay him a visit.” Michael answered taking back the sheet and looking at the address. The house was located on the outskirts of New Mexico and calculated it would be at least a three-hour drive, tops.

“What, at his home? What if he has a family? Kids?” Jesse asked, paranoid enough that he had to dabble on both sides of the law.

“Hey, you think he thought that when he snatched Max and Liz?” Michael snapped pointing piercingly at Jesse with his finger. “I don’t care if I have to spotlight his wife or polygraph little Bobby and Sally Sue. I’ll interrogate the damn dog if I have too…I’m going to find Max and Liz.” Michael declared. Maria watched as rage twinkled in his dark eyes and how his lip trembled when he swore he would find Max and Liz.

“Well if we’re going to leave we gotta go now.” Valenti advised seeing it was already past nine. “It’s best if we get there by night if we don’t want anyone noticing us.”

“You’re right, we have to go, but just me and Isabel.” Michael commanded.

“What? No way!” Maria exclaimed. Deep down inside she knew he was doing it to protect her, but in the past they have always been successful because they worked as a team.

“Maria, don’t start.” Michael warned.

“Don’t start what? Liz is my best friend and you want me to sit here and do nothing. I’m sorry. I can’t.” Maria announced hugging herself when she acknowledged Liz was gone.

“Maria, you can’t come.” Michael said firmly. “Besides, you don’t think Liz’s dad isn’t going to notice that the three of us aren’t working our shifts at the Crash?” Maria crossed her arms when she realized he was right.

“He’s going to notice anyways with his cook gone and one waitress short.” Maria snapped back.

“Maybe if I stayed, I can cover Liz’s shift.” Isabel suggested. Michael seemed to be debating the idea mentally but saw he had no choice.

“I can cover the grill for you if too.” Jesse offered. “We can tell Mr. Parker it’s a ‘thank you’ for catering our wedding.”

“Fine.” Michael answered.

“Well, you can’t go on your own.” Valenti commented. Michael nodded and accepted his silent offer to join him.

“I’m going too. You’re going to need a little muscle.” Kyle added.

“If it comes to that, I think I can handle myself.” Michael replied.

“Wait, if you’re going to go you’re going to have to promise me you’re not going to do anything crazy that might put your lives in danger.” Maria pleaded, seeing rationalization was not one of Michael’s priorities at the moment.

“Maria, right now the only one that’s in danger is this…Agent…” Michael stuttered as he opened the print out to get another look at the guys’ name. “…Agent Burns.”

“Hey, why can’t Isabel use her powers and save us all the trouble?” Kyle asked, being exposed to her dream walking abilities on numerous occasions.

“Try it. If it doesn’t works…” Michael left his thought hang in the air, letting everyone make their own conclusions of what he would do.

Chapter 5

Post by Crashdown_51 »

I think I should ration the chapters, at this rate it'll be finished by the end of the week. That's the bad thing about writing chapters in advance, I get posting happy and I want to post them all in one day.

Chapter 5

Eagle Rock Military Base

By the time Max had regain consciousness, he had awakened to find himself detained to what resembled as a dentist table covered in black pleather, slanted at an angle, and facing a huge mirror that covered the length of the wall. He expected to find himself backed into a corner of a bright padded white room, but instead he found himself in a grungy 4x11 room with jungle green tiles on the wall and a dull, flickering spotlight that was attach to the right of the table, pointing directly at him. His muscles were sore and his body felt weak, he looked to his left and noticed the blue and yellow bags of IV’s had been injected into his left arm, making it feel as if the blood running in his veins were flowing with ice. “Liz?” Max mumbled remembering that she too was captured, but the sound of a rusty door being pushed open broke Max’s concentration, causing all his sensors jolted to overload with panic and fear when he saw Agent Burns walk in front of him.

“Welcome back.” Agent Burns greeted sarcastically, leaning up against the glass with his arms crossed.

“Wha-what d-do you want?” Max stuttered, feeling the drugs that were being pumped in his veins taking affect.

“What do I want?” Burns repeated with a surprised expression. “Answers.” He yelled aggravated when Max looked at him still with confusion.

“Answers t-to what?” Max asked frightened already assuming what Burns was interrogating him about, knowing he couldn’t play ‘innocent’ with him much longer, seeing how more impatient and aggressive he was compared to Pierce.

“Come on Max. You and I both know to what. For starters, why ‘Sam’s Quick Stop’ and how did you know to test for tetryl?” Burns baggered furiously. “How could a punk kid like you, get a op Agent like me fired?”

“So, th-that’s it, isn’t it? You got fired…and now you’re doing this.” Max stated finally realizing that he wasn’t back in hell for who he was, but he was there because of a personal vendetta.

“Don’t flatter yourself. Do you know how many secret organizations hire ex-FBI agents? Believe me, if you were here just because of my unemployment status…well I’d be really afraid. I’m not denying it doesn’t have something to do with it, but the soul reason why you’re here is because of this!” Burns yelled holding out a picture of Max and Liz kissing.

“That’s just me and my girlfriend.” Max spoke, not knowing what that picture had to do with his imprisonment. But then Burns turned the photo over and in black bold letters the words ‘GET THEM’ were written with a permanent marker.

“I found this in Agent Pierce’s old desk. I never knew him personally, but I do remember he was obsessive over an ‘Evans’ suspect. I never paid much attention to him because I thought he was a joke to the department…chasing aliens. I was in charge of serial burglaries. Before his disappearance, I noticed he was destroying all his files on you and everything that had Roswell, New Mexico on it, but he didn’t get a chance to clear out the evidence box on the case and when your Utah case fell into my lap and…well, we all know what happened…I went back and checked it for myself. This picture was the only thing in that box, so you can see why my curiosity was increased in you and then I found out about this place was shutdown and it was like opportunity knocking.”

“I’ve never met Pierce before, I don’t know why he has our picture. Please just let Liz and me go…we won’t tell anyone…” Max pleaded assuming that Nasedo wiped out all traces of their involvement, but the picture, there was no explanation for it.

“Back at Utah you were ready to call in the press?” Burns asked penciled. “Besides, I plan to break you to the full extent, making sure you’d tremble jus to tell someone your name…” Burns said heading back to the door and then turning around to look at Max’s reflection looking at him, “…and when I’m finished with you…I’ll start on your little girlfriend.” Burns added before leaving, slamming the door shut behind him.

“Nooooooo! Liz!” Max screamed with tears collecting in his eyes at the thought of Liz being tortured.

Michael’s Apartment

“Could you get in?” Michael asked, seeing Isabel gasp for air, soaked in sweat.

“Yeah, but his mind was so disoriented.” Isabel exhaled as she wiped the beads of sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand.

“What does that mean?” Jesse asked.

“It means that he’s drugged.” Isabel answered. “More than before.” Isabel added looking at Michael, who was staring back at her worried.

“Before?” Jesse repeated.

Liz’s Cell

“Miss Parker, how nice of you to join us.” Burns stated as he walked in just in time to see Liz regain consciousness from the sever beating that Burns’ men had inflicted upon her. Liz could barely move, her body felt like Jello, and was almost certain she had heard a snap on her forearm when she was hit with the same metal rod Max was hit with. Liz watched the thin man approach her and squatted down in front of her.

“Mm-Ma-Max?” Liz whimpered, trying to regain some ounce of strength to raise her hand to blast Burns to kingdom come, but the pain she felt was so severe that she could barely twitch a finger.

“I’m afraid he can’t talk right now, but don’t worry you’ll see him soon.” Burns said mischievously before leaving. Liz’s only possible movement was to look up and down without feeling pain, and she was planning to use it when a sudden squeaking echoed in her ear that was pressed up against the floor. “Uhhh.” Liz gasped when she noticed the darkest rat she had ever seen in her life crawling through the edges of the wall, sniffing and twitching it’s long whiskers. Liz assumed it was either smelling the strawberry scented body-wash Max had bought her or it sensed Liz’s blood. Tears streamed down her face when she saw it creep towards her face, wishing Max was there to help her and carry her away from this hell. Max endured hours of pain from what she recalled in her flashes when Pierce had captured him, she couldn’t imagine what was planned for them next. She always knew that there’d be risked for being involved with Max, but never in here wildest thoughts did she think this would happen. Pierce and every other law officer she met wanted to study them, but it was clear that Agent Burns had his on agenda.

Four Hours Later

Liz’s body was still aching, but from the four hours she laid on the floor, she gathered enough strength to drag herself up to the mirror that covered the wall. She assumed it was just like a police interrogation room. One side the suspected waited patiently under stress while the police officers watched from the other side. But these weren’t police officers, they were evil men with no souls, and she would make sure that they’d know it. She banged weakly on the mirror, calling out for the thin man to let them go. Demanding it. Crying out for Max, but still no answer, until she heard her rusty door swing open and the sound of men’s dress shoes hitting the pavement loud enough to acknowledge their presence.

“I see you’ve gain some strength back.” Burns commented as he kneeled by her and attempted to cup her face, or so it seemed, but she could face him but Liz defensively flung her hand wildly to block him from touching her and kept her hands up. He attempted again to reach her, this time succeeding, wrapping his hands around her neck and pulling her closer. “You’re going to need it for this.” He threatened, before walking back towards the door and clicking on a remote before leaving. When Liz turned to look in the mirror, she realized that she was looking into another room…Max’s room.

She desperately tried to regain her focus to the blurred object in front of her with her watery eyes, and when she rubbed out the distortion, she saw Max looking down at the floor with his forehead leaning on the glass. “Max?” Liz called out banging as hard as she could to get his attention.

Agent Burn’s House

Valenti pulled up his pick up truck across the street from the designated house and then he, Michael, and Kyle crept to the house. Michael used his powers to open the door and they all slipped inside unnoticed, but when they looked around they noticed one particular problem. It was empty. No furniture. No box’s. Nothing to hint off someone was living there or that anyone had lived there for a long time, judging from the cobwebs that hung from the corners of the rooms. “What the hell is this?” Michael asked frustrated.

“I guess we have to keep trying with Isabel.” Valenti suggested, waving for them to follow him back to the truck.

Chapter 6

Post by Crashdown_51 »

That beautiful hunk of man is Johnny Messner, he's a character that will be introduced later on and supply a lot of the "angst" to M/L. He's worked in one of my fav movies Tears of the Sun w/ Bruce Willis. Here's a mural of him:

Chapter 6

Song: My All by Mariah Carey

Eagle Rock Military Base – Max’s Cell

I am thinking of you
In my sleepless solitude tonight
If it’s wrong to love you
Then my heart just won’t let me right
Cause I’ve drowned in you
And I won’t pull through
Without you by my side

I’d give my all to have
Just one more night with you
I’d risk my life to feel
Your body next to mine
Cause I can’t go on
Living in the memory of our song
I’d give my all for your love tonight

Max heart sunk when he realized it was Liz banging on the glass. She had been beaten. Her hands had traces of dried blood and her face was scattered with bruises and cuts. He watched helplessly as she pressed her forehead and her thin shaky hand on the glass, mouthing out his name with tears streaming down her face.

Baby can you feel me
Imagining I’m looking in your eyes
I can see you clearly
Vividly emblazoned in my mind
And yet you’re so far
Like a distant star
I’m wishing on tonight

“Liz?” He called out, placing his bloody hand on the glass to cover the image of her hand and watched as she lightly scratched the surface, wishing it was him she was actually touching while he wished he had his powers to shatter the glass and carry her out to safety like those corny love movies he endured with her, Michael, and Maria on double date night. He felt his lip begin to tremble and tears escape from his eyes.

I’d give my all to have
Just one more night with you
I’d risk my life to feel
Your body next to mine
Cause I can’t go on
Living in the memory of our song
I’d give my all for your love tonight

Liz petted the wall and then shut her eyes tight, envisioning that there was nothing separating them from each other as she pressed her lips against the glass. Max instinctively pressed his lips on the glass, his forehead back on the glass and with his arm pressed up on the glass above his head.

I’d give my all to have
Just one more night with you
I’d risk my life to feel
Your body next to mine
Cause I can’t go on
Living in the memory of our song
I’d give my all for your love tonight
Give my all for your love
Tonight

Suddenly two men burst into Liz’s cell. Max head shot up and banged on the glass hysterically to the point where he broke it, having no other option but to watch, he saw them retie Liz’s hands behind her with the black bow strips and the carry her back to the glass.

Then Liz watched as two men busted in Max’s cell and began beating him again. “Nnoooo!” Liz cried out, then turned away when she saw Max slam up against the glass. Then Max was kicked down to his knees to face the glass, kneeling, he watched as a third man strolled in a silver tub full of water and ice, that he recalled them using on him. He watched as they carried Liz and forced her to lean forward. Max couldn’t make out what they were asking her but all he noticed was that Liz wasn’t answering back. Max watched as one man alone picked Liz up like he was about to toss her like a dwarf and then forced her head down in the water. She was held under for at least ten seconds before they lifted her up, Max watched as she heaved and coughed when they brought her up, and then inhaled another breath when they dunked her back in. This time putting her completely inside the icy water and keeping her under for at least five more seconds. “No stop it! Stop it! I’ll tell you what you want just please stop hurting her!” Max begged from the top of his lungs. They take Liz out of the water, her hair whips back drenched in water, as she was. Liz coughed out the water that enforced itself down her lungs as she watched the thin man walk up the glass on Max’s side and then clicked on the same clicker he had used earlier, making the see-thru glass turn back into a mirror, not being able to see Max anymore.

Michael’s place

“Anything?” Maria asked seeing Isabel gasp again after her fifth attempt to dream walk Max.

“Nothing.” Isabel said with a frighten tone in her voice.

“Maybe if you try Liz.” Maria suggested as she dug in her purse and pulled out a picture of her, Liz and Alex posing at the Crashdown.

“Please, let me in. Let me in, Liz.” Isabel whispered as she laid back down on Michael’s couch, feeling herself drawing into Liz’s dream. When Isabel finally got through, she shifted back and forth disoriented, but didn’t feel the same way that she felt with Max. She assumed Liz was either passed out or was violently rendered unconsciously. She paced herself to Liz, who was bound, the sleeve of her sweater ripped and her beaten on the floor and kneeled down in front of her to turn her over. “Liz. Liz. Wake up!” Isabel demanded as she shook Liz fiercely. Liz opened her eyes slowly and saw Isabel staring down at her.

“Isabel?” Liz asked making sure she wasn’t delusional.

“Yeah, it’s me. Tell me where you are. Where are you Liz?” Isabel asked frantically. Liz looked to the side as did Isabel and watched Liz’s memory play back from the moment they were dragged out of the van. “Where…you’re back at the Military Base? Who took you there?” Isabel asked and then saw a man that appeared to by a younger and slimmer version of Nasedo and then quick flashes of the four men that beat Max and her. “Liz, we’re coming to get you, okay? We’re coming.” Isabel promised and then zoomed back to reality.

“They’re at Eagle Rock Military Base.” Isabel announced to Maria and Jesse.

“Where’s Michael?” Maria asked, seeing there was nothing they could do until he and the Valenti’s returned.

2 Hours Later

“Michael! They’re in the military base again.” Isabel announced hugging Michael with a free flow of tears falling from her eyes. “It was horrible. I saw what they were doing to them.”

“Why the hell would they take them back there?” Michael questioned.

“I thought Nasedo took care of that place…you know shut it down?” Maria asked hugging herself to keep from shaking.

“He did.” Michael answered. “Let’s go.” Michael ordered headed back towards his door.

Liz’s Cell

“Wake up Liz.” Burns ordered, splashing cold water on her face from his water bottle. Liz choked on the combined air and liquid and backed away from Burns when she regained control of herself. “I’m afraid I have some bad news.” Burns announced with a firm look on his face. “But I’m not going to tell you…I’m going to show you it. See, I can tell you that the entire Roswell Police Department is in the next room to save you but you still wouldn’t believe me…but if I showed you…” Burns said walking towards the glass and clicking on his remote, switching the mirror to see through it.

“NNNNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!” Liz screamed as she was shown her worst fear. Michael, Maria, Valenti, Kyle, Isabel and Jesse had all been captured and hung from their arms as she watched a man gun them down right in front of her eyes.

Chapter 7

Song: So Broken by Bjork

Liz’s Cell

“No.” Liz whimpered, unable, for the first time in three years, to cry any more.

“Max gave them up in exchange of your release.” Burns informed her. Liz’s head shot up and looked at Burns with pure hatred.

“Max would never do that.” Liz declared pronouncing each word firmly to show him she didn’t believe him.

“Stubborn. Perhaps if I dangle their bloody corpse in front of you will convince you.” Burns suggested, seeing Liz bit her lower lip and lower her head in shame. “Didn’t think so. Take her.” He ordered to the two men that came into the room.

“Wait. Where are you taking me?” Liz yelled as the men picked her up.

“I don’t know who else your little friends told about this place. I really underestimated you guys. Finding my cover house is one thing, but tracing me back here it’s…it’s impressive.” Burns commented as he duct taped her mouth again and then followed the two men as they carried Liz out. Liz watched carefully as they turned a corner and walked down a long dark corridor, she noticed that there was a door opened and light stretched out on the cement floor and turned her head to look inside as they passed by. “MMM..mmm…” Liz mumbled in exclamation when she saw Max hanging the same way everyone else was and then a man shutting the door. They loaded her up in the van and drove off into the sunrise.

Michael’s Apartment

“Wait, Michael, we just can’t go in there without a plan.” Maria warned.

“We got Max out once.” Michael answered.

“Yeah. Max only. Now we’re talking about getting Max and Liz out. We don’t know where they are…if they’re together or separated…we can’t just storm in there and put ourselves in that kind of danger.” Maria advised.

“You can’t expect me to just sit here and do nothing now that I know where they are.” Michael yelled back.

“Michael, last time we had Nasedo’s and Tess’s help…now it’s only us two. We have to think this through.” Isabel pleaded.

“What do you want me to do?” Michael asked in defeat.

“Start thinking with your head and not your heart for now.” Isabel advised.

Max’s New Cell

“Alright, shows over. Time to wake up.” A man said as he injected a clear liquid into his arm. Minutes after the injection Max began to feel the effects and opened his eyes very lazily and looked at the man that introduced himself as “the Doctor”. “Now are we going to continue?”

“I already told you everything I know.” Max answered as he shivered in pain.

“You don’t really expect me to believe that you stumbled on tertyl while you were showing off to your girlfriend.” The Doctor asked as he waved a scalpel in front of him. “You know the tiniest cut can feel ten times worse then a stab wound.” The doctor informed Max as he quickly swiped the sharp tip of the scalpel against Max’s skin to give him a paper cut effect. Max yelled from the pain. Shaking even more when the doctor swiped him again, this time in a back and forth motion. The Doctor waited until Max’s screams lowered before he pressed him again. “Come on Max. You can’t hold on forever.” The man taunted.

“D-do wha-what you want. You already killed me the second you killed Liz.” Max answered coldly, evoking the tragic memory of Liz’s lifeless body that Agent Burns had shown him earlier.

“We’ll see about that.” He threatened and continued as planned.

So broken,
In pieces,
My heart is so broken,
I'm puzzling.

Here I go
Trying to run ahead of that,
Heart break train,
Thinking,
It will never catch up with me.

I'm so broken,
So broken,
Yeah

I'm trying to land,
This aeroplane of ours gracefully,
But it seems just destined to crash,

I'm so broken,
My heart is so broken,
Yeah

How can, how can,
And I sense
All continuity
Has vanished away
At one step at a time now baby
I'm so broken
I'm-m-m-mmm...so broken
Yeah

I'm so...
Completely unhealable, baby
Oh!
I'm so broken
Yeah

Chapter 8

Song: Empty by The Cranberries

Valenti’s Pick-Up

“This is not going to work.” Michael commented skeptically as he lowered his ski mask down his face.

“It’s going to work.” Valenti assured him as they approached the Eagle Rock Military Base.

“Do you even know how to use that?” Michael asked as he watched Kyle cock his father’s gun.

“I’ve been shooting since I’ve been 12.” Kyle answered irritated by Michael’s paranoia.

“For the record, I think this plan sucks.” Michael added.

“Noted.” Kyle replies, lowering his ski mask.

Max’s New Cell

“You’re stronger than I expected.” The Doctor commented, preparing another syringe to inject Max with. Max hung weakly from his arms, bleeding in scattered cuts that were spread all over his bare chest. “I’m just going to have to come up with something else that might frighten you.”

“Do your worst. I’m not afraid anymore.” Max said icy with a shiver. He may be still alive literally, but he was dead inside.

“Funny, that’s exactly what your little girlfriend said before we had fun with her. She begged for us to stop. Wouldn’t stop crying out your name the whole time…so we found ways to make her quiet.” Max blood began to boil as the doctor continued to describe the pain Liz endured before they killed her, it wasn’t until the man said that Liz was calling out for him that all hell broke loose. The lights began to flick until the point that the bulbs popped one by one, scaring the doctor so much that he ran out the room. Max focused on the chains that held him up, hearing Liz’s voice echo in his head for help, and then the chains broke making Max collapse to the floor. Max forced himself up to his feet and hobbled over to the doorway holding his broken hand as he peeked out the door real quick to see if anyone was there. When he saw the coast was clear, he hobbled down the corridor, remembering every turn and step Burns took when they dragged him down there, and made his way out of the base, questioning to himself were all the agents had gone. He shook the thought out of his head and headed for the gate that he escaped from the last time only to find three men with masks and guns breaking in.

“Maxwell!” The tallest guy yelled, removing his ski mask and revealing it was Michael.

“Michael!” Max exclaimed in relief as they hugged each other.

“Where’s Liz?” Kyle asked noticing she wasn’t with Max as he took of his mask.

“She didn’t make it.” Max answered as tears fell from his eyes. Both Kyle and Michael’s faces turned pale white at the news and rushed to get back to the pick up, to get out of there as quick as possible.

An Hour Later

“Hello?” Burns answered his ringing telephone.

‘Burns, it’s Doc. The kid got away.’

“What?!” Burns yelled. “Pull over.” He ordered to the driver and jumped out, moving further away from the van so Liz wouldn’t hear the conversation.

‘He got away last night.’

“Yes, I heard that part. Explain to me just how exactly?” Burns asked grabbing his pounding temples.

‘Don’t know. Something weird happened…the lights all popped.’

“That basement hasn’t been used since 1947, of course the lights burned. I’m surprised the foundation held on for so long.” Burns commented.

‘What are we going to do?’

“We walk away like nothing happened. I’ll get rid of the girl, where are you right now?”

‘On the next plane out of here.’

“Yeah, I’m on that flight too.” Burns commented before hanging up the phone and getting back in the van. ”Get on the 10.”

“The highway, Sir?” The driver asked confused on the sudden change of course.

“Just do it.” He ordered.

Michael’s Apartment

“Don’t worry, Isabel. Michael will bring them back.” Maria comforted Isabel, seeing her pale and plastered with shocked.

“It’s not that…in the dream walk…”

“You mean the one you did to Liz?” Maria asked and got a nod from Isabel.

“Yeah, she showed me someone…her visions were too blurry…I couldn’t be sure, but I think I recognized the man she showed me.” Isabel told her shaking her head trying to make sense of what she saw and then suddenly it hit her. “Oh, my God!” Isabel said huskily in disgust. “I think I know who it was.”

“Who?”

“But it can’t be him.” Isabel spoke to herself as she walked to Jesse, who was leaning on the counter. “Jesse. What was the name of the Agent that kidnapped you?” Isabel asked with a tremble in her voice of fear and aggravation.

“What? Why?” Jesse asked nervously, seeing Maria watching curiously.

“Jesse!” Isabel exclaimed, showing she was very serious.

“A-Agent Burns.” Jesse stuttered, seeing Isabel’s jaw drop in shock.

“What?!” Maria exclaimed in disbelief.

“I think I need to sit down.” Isabel said holding her stomach and forehead in fear that she would pass out or throw up.

“Wait, Valenti asked us if we knew an Agent Burns. Why didn’t you say anything?” Maria asked furiously as she waved her hands in the air as she spoke.

“Because the Agent Burns I know is dead!” Jesse yelled back at her.

“Jesse, that still doesn’t…if someone is talking about an Alex to me, I mention I know an Alex…it doesn’t matter if he’s dead or not…” Maria started getting more infuriated as she explained herself.

“Maria, this guy wasn’t my friend. He kidnapped me!” Jesse defended.

“The more reason for you to tell us!” Maria yelled back.

“If something happens to them…”Isabel finally spoke as she joined her hands and rocked back and forth nervously and then looked up at Jesse with an icy stare. Then the sounds of footsteps were heard and a smile stretched across both Maria and Isabel’s face. The door flung open by Valenti who held the door open for Michael and Kyle who were helping Max in. “Oh, my God. Max!” Isabel cried in relief as she ran to hug him. Maria tilted to the side awaiting for Liz, but then didn’t see her and her smile started to decrease slowly.

“Wh-where’s Liz?” Maria asked clutching her hands together in a worried panic.

“Maria…” Michael answered softly walking up to her with a face of guilty disappointment as he saw here shaking her head in denial.

“No! No! She can’t be? Not again. Please, Michael. I can’t…not again. No. Liz!!” Maria cried out as she fell to the floor with Michael’s arms wrapped around hers in order for her not to fall all the way down. “Liz!!”

“Maria, I’m so sorry.” Michael cried out as tears spilled from his eyes at the sight of Maria’s agony as everyone watched in tears as well.

“You promised. You promised me! Liz!!” Maria continued to cry pulling away from Michael. She walked over to a second hand bookstand that Michael had in the corner of the next room that was decorated with Metallica memorabilia and empty bottles of Kiwi Strawberry Snapple, and picked up a photo Kyle had taken of the four of them in Isabel’s wedding, looking at Liz, and then focused on Jesse’s image. And from the fit of rage she passed out.

Something has left my life,
And I don't know where it went to, ah, ha, ha.
Somebody caused me strife,
And it's not what I was seeking.

Didn't you see me?
Didn't you hear me?
Didn't you see me standing there, ah, ha, ha?
Why did you turn out the lights?
Did you know that I was sleeping?

Say a prayer for me,
Help me to feel the strength, I did.
My identity, has it been taken?
Is my heart breakin' on me?

Empty
All my plans fell thought my hands,
They fell thought my hands on me.
Empty
All my dreams it suddenly seems,
It suddenly seems,
Empty
Empty
Empty

Empty
Empty
Empty

"Maria." Michael called out shaking her to wake up. Maria's eyes opened, eyelashes still damp from crying, and she quickly sat up as if it were all a dream, but then realized it was all true when she saw the state Max was in. She got up and walked over to Max and embraced him in a grieving hug.

"I loved her so much, Maria." Max cried , barely able to speak, soaking up Maria's shoulder with his tears.

"I know you did." Maria replied, brushing the back of Max's head as she began to cry along with him."I have to tell her parents." Maria whimpered, then got up and headed to the door, stopping dead on her tracks. “You’re responsible.” Maria announced in an angry voice without turning around.

“Maria, I…”Michael trailed off not knowing how to explain.

“There might have been a chance to...if you would have said something.” Maria added, finally turning around and walking pass Michael, straight to Jesse and slapped him across the face. “I’ll never forgive you for this.” Maria declared and then stormed out. Jesse rubbed his cheek as Michael and Max stared at him confused.

“We’ll make sure she gets home.” Valenti spoke as he and Kyle headed out the door. After that the spotlight was on Jesse.

“What’s she talking about? What do you have to do with this?” Michael asked irritated.

Chapter 9

Chevy Van

“Meet me here in half an hour.” Agent Burns ordered as he stepped out of the car.

“But sir, what am I suppose to do with her?” The driver asked.

“Get rid of her.” Burns replied coldly as he ran across the street and disappearing into the crowd.

Michael’s Apartment

“Jesse? What do you have to do with this?” Michael asked again, clenching his fists tight.

“Back, back when you two were going through your identity crisis…an Agent Burns kidnapped me from the garage Kyle was working at and showed me all these pictures of…of dead people, claiming that you and Max were killers. I told him I was going to sue him for harassment, so he threatened to hurt Isabel and I…I-I shot him.” Jesse explained, finally letting the reality of his actions accord.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” Michael exclaimed.

“Michael, I was there. I saw his dead body. We even went into over kill to make sure he was dead.” Isabel defended.

“Over kill?” Michael questioned for her to elaborate.

“I used my powers to torch his body and then after that we put him in a car crusher.” Isabel explained further, seeing Michael’s eyebrow arch, impressed that Isabel made sure to cover her tracks. “Point is we killed him, and that’s just an understatement…how could he survive?” Isabel asked herself shaking her head in confusion.

“Shape shifter.” Michael exhaled. Then a faint knock was heard on the door. Michael opened the door and found Maria hugging herself with traces of spilled tears still on her face. “Maria?”

“I tried…but I couldn’t.” Maria said hugging Michael. “What am I suppose to say to them? They deserve to know something.”

“We’ll tell them. Just right now we’re trying to figure out who this Burns guy is…after that we’ll ‘both’ go together and tell them.” Michael promised, guiding her to sit down on the couch beside Max who had been extremely quiet, and squatted in front of her as he brushed her hair away from her face. He gave her a faint smile and then stood and turned to face Jesse. “Okay, so what did this guy want?”

“He suspected you guys were aliens. He was very bitter when he mention Max, almost as if he hated him. He only mentioned you once.” Jesse answered pointing to Michael as he recalled the events of that day.

‘ Now, let's talk about why you're really here, Jesse. How much do you about your brother-in-law, Max Evans?’

‘I won't lie to you. I'm not the biggest fan of my brother-in-law. But, Max is just a kid. Troubled, but not a threat to national security.’

‘He isn't from this world. He's an alien pretending to be a normal teenaged kid. Careers have been destroyed because of Max Evans. People have died. Good people.’

‘ Well, if Max is the murderer you say he is, why haven't you arrested him yet?’

‘We tried. I used to be in something called the Special Unit. Now there are only a few of us left. We knew how dangerous he was. I have another theory. There are more like him. And they've been able to live here for the last 50 years under the cover of lies, murder, and deceit. I promise you, these creatures believe in survival of the fittest. We're an inferior life form to them. Nothing will stand in their way.’

Max listened quizzically to the conversation Jesse was describing with Agent Burns, thinking to himself about the Agent Burns that kidnapped him and Liz and thought that they were completely different. “Michael.” Max called out, getting everyone’s attention when he finally spoke. “I met this Agent Burns before…back in Utah. He was the Agent me and my dad blackmailed to get Liz’s charges to drop.”

“The Agent I met never mentioned Utah.” Jesse added skeptically.

“But he mentioned the special unit.” Max announced making his point. “Don’t you think that’s strange…he won’t mention Utah to the lawyer that helped defend us but he mentions a Special Unit that’s stationed in Roswell?” Max questions seeing everyone agree with him. “Back at the…he told me he didn’t know Pierce…he thought he was a disgrace to the FBI for chasing aliens…”

“So which one is the real Burns?” Isabel asked.

“We wont find out until we find the bones of the Agent you killed.” Max plotted.

“What do the bones have to do with it?” Jesse asked.

“If they’re still there…you guys killed a human…the real Burns.” Max answered.

“And if it’s not?” Jesse asked.

“…a shape shifter? Just like Michael said.” Isabel added to Max’s theory.

“Alright unless there were separate protectors for the Royal Four, my thought is…”

“Langley?” Max questioned, interrupting Michael’s train of thought.

“It explains the unconditional hatred.” Michael comments.

“We won’t know until we get to the junkyard.” Isabel declared.

In A Dark Alley

The driver had been pressed for time, not knowing what to do with Liz drove him up the wall and into this cluttered alley. But never in his wildest dreams did he ever imagine striking a woman. But he had no choice. If she would’ve just kept quiet…none of this would have happened. Liz had been kicking, crying, and mumbling through her duct tape mouth, even after he repeatedly told her to be quiet, not knowing that he was a man that didn’t handle pressure too well, he smacked her across the face. The force of the smack slammed her against the brick wall of the alley and was rendered unconscious. The driver looked around in a panic and drove off to meet Burns at their rendezvous. Suddenly, a man in a dirty white t-shirt and ripped jeans, bolted down the alley moments after, knocking over a carton that covered Liz as he attempted to escape the hot pursuit that was at his tail.

“Luis! Stop!” Another man came running down the alley into the intersection of the street and held his knees as he tried to regain his breath when he couldn’t see Luis anymore, he took his cell phone and speed dialed the name ‘WESS’. “Wess. I lost him.” He announced disappointed as he walked back into the alley into the direction he was coming from.

‘Where are you?’

“In the alley behind the…” The man trailed off when he spotted a pair of legs underneath a folded cardboard that belonged to a big screen T.V. on top of them, he would have considered it as a homeless person sleeping in an alley but the boots looked new and the bloody hand was a big hint as well.

‘Hey? Roma? Roma? Donny you there?’

“I got a body.” Donny Roma replied, before hanging up on him and dialing the police switchboard. “This is Detective Dominic Roma, badge number 2-8-8-3.” He announced as he removed the cardboard and found Liz all bloody and unconscious. “I got a teen, female, possible rape victim, in the alley behind Peterson and Casino, need MedEvac right away.” He said before snapping his cell phone shut and checked on Liz’s pulse. “Hey, hey, everything’s going to be alright.” He assured her as he brushed her hair back, seeing her swollen eye start to turn purple and her cut lip swell as well as the long bruise across her cheek that seemed to be the freshest one inflicted on her.

“Max?” Liz called out as she opened her eyes, seeing Donny in front of her, mouthing a question that she couldn’t hear because of the constant ringing in her head.

“Who did this to you?” Donny asked as he watched her regain consciousness.

“Where am I?” Liz asked as Donny held her head up with one hand, sitting completely on the ground, and scooted her body closer to him with the other hand.

“Behind a restaurant, “Peterson and Casino”.” Donny informed her.

“Las Cruces?” Liz asked, it being the only other place she really knew.

“Las Cruces?” Donny repeated confused. “No, Phoenix…Phoenix, Arizona.”

Junkyard

“Okay, so what kind of car was it?” Michael asked as they stood in the center of the junkyard.

“It was a red one.” Isabel answered.

“No, I mean was it a Ford? Toyota? 91’? 98’?” Michael asked trying to get a detail description of the car.

“Of all the years you’ve known me, what possibly makes you think I know that. It was red, it kind of looked like Maria’s car but without the “I’m dating an alien” decals.” Isabel snapped aggravated as she ran her fingers through her hair in frustration.

“No, it’s okay, that’s good. It looks like the Jetta. Let’s look around the crusher, maybe we’ll spot something.” Michael said as he comforted her. He knew from all days, today was not the day to be impatient, sarcastic, Michael Guerin, he had to be strong for all of them. Max was out of it, Liz was gone, Maria was in an emotional roller coaster and Isabel was carrying both hers and Jesse’s guilt. After all the years of declaring he wanted to be on his own, even when he was declared emancipated, this was the one true moment where he felt he was on his own.

Michael’s Place

“Hey, listen, about before, I wanted to apologize…”

“Hey, no. It’s okay.” Jesse interrupted Maria’s apology.

“No. It’s not. I-I just lost another of my best friends and I…I guess I was just looking for someone to blame.” Maria confessed hugging herself. “I was wrong to blame you, so I’m sorry.”

“Hey, it’s not me you should be feeling sorry for.” Jesse advised, pointing at Max with his chin who was sitting on the couch holding Liz’s jacket that she had left the night before.

“I’m gonna go talk to him.” Maria said, hesitating a bit not knowing what to say.

“What is it?” Jesse asked seeing her hesitation.

“It’s just that…I’m about to go over there and try to convince him it’s going to be okay…but it’s not…I can’t lie to him and tell him that it’s going to be okay…the way he loves Liz…it’s going to destroy him.” Maria said feeling the tears coming back.

“Then maybe you should tell him that you’ll always be there for him instead.” Jesse advised. Maria nodded and walked over to Max and sat on the floor next to him.

“She left it here. I told her I would bring it back. But I didn’t. I lied to her. She’s gone and probably thinks I’m a liar.” Max said clutching on to her jacket.

“Max…you can’t do this to yourself. I did it when Alex did and it was killing me.” Maria advised.

“You don’t understand Maria…without Liz…I’m already dead.” Max confessed.

“No, Max. That’s not true…and Liz would be very pissed off to hear you saying that. She would’ve wanted you to find out who ever did this and make them pay. She would have wanted all of us to stay together.” Maria explained as the tears started to flow as she rubbed Max’s back for comfort, but quickly pulled away when she saw him wince in pain. “I-I’m sorry...I-I didn’t know.” Maria quickly apologized. “Can I…?” Maria asked pointing to look at his back. When she lifted his shirt, she was horrified in the condition he was in. His body was black and blue, cuts and deep lacerations scattered around, some even overlapping themselves making the cuts deeper, and then the nauseous thought of Liz having the same wounds crossed her mind almost making her regurgitate. But if it wasn’t for Max’s fragile state, she would have. “Why don’t you just heal them?”

“It won’t change the fact that they were there.” Max answered coldly. “I healed my hand…but I felt as if I were betraying Liz if I continued.”

“Max, come on.” Maria was about to press him on it but he gave her this icy stare, a look that she had never seen in him before, and was afraid of Max Evans for the first time since they’ve met. “If you’re not going to heal yourself you’re going to at least get some sleep.” Maria ordered pulling on his arm lightly but felt Max resist.

“Maria.” Max said softly but sternly.

“Max, please. We need you…but if you’re like this…you can’t help Liz.” Maria begged, seeing Max finally accept, she helps him up and he lies down on his chest and falls asleep almost instantly. And just as quick as he feel asleep, the rush of moments Max had shared with Liz flowed through his mind.

Liz. Liz! You have to look at me. You have to look at me.

We don't tell anyone. We sorta think our lives depend on it.

So when you healed me you risked all of this getting out didn't you?
Yea.
Why??
It was you.

By the shadows of the night I go
I moved away from the crowded room
That sea of shallow faces masked in warm regret
They don't know how to feel, they don't know what is lost

So I've been thinking about why I called you, you know, that day from the hospital. Because I knew it was against the rules and it led to that whole awkward moment. But, I called anyway. Sort of couldn't help it. Because when something like this happens, what's happening to my grandmother, you don't listen to logic to what you're supposed to do. You listen to your heart, and my heart told me to call you. Because you were the one person in the world that I really wanted to talk to.

Liz, I think that what I'm afraid of isn't that we try this and it works out really badly. What I'm afraid of is we try it and it works out really well. I'm afraid of feeling everything that I know I would feel. Because I know it's not meant to be. And somewhere down the line, we're gonna get hurt. I can live with that. I just couldn't bear to hurt you.

Lost in the darkness of a land
Where all the hope that's offered is
Memories of being taken by the hand
And we are led into the sun
But I don't have a hold on what is real
Though we can only try
What is there to give or to believe

I better go.
Why?
Cuz if I don't go right now, things are gonna change.
Change, how?
I'm gonna have to touch your hair...cuz it's so soft...and I'd have to tell you that...no matter what we go through, it's all worthwhile for me because we're together.
And then?
And then...I'd have to do this...

I want it all to go away I want to be alone
Sympathy's wasted on my hollow shell
I feel there's nothing left to fight for
No reason for a cause
And I can't hear your voice and I can't feel you near

I just wish that I could have stopped you from saving my life that day in the CrashDown.
Don't say that.
Max, the day that you saved my life, your life just ended.
No, that was the day my life began. Liz, when I was in that room, and they did what they did to me. You're what kept me alive. The thought of you. The way your eyes look into mine. Your smile. The touch of your skin. Your lips. Knowing you has made me human. Whether I die tomorrow or fifty years from now, my destiny is the same: it's you. I want to be with you, Liz. I love you.
I love you.

Junkyard

“Oh, my God, Michael, look that’s it!” Isabel exclaimed in happiness, pointing to a red, flatten car.

“Come on.” Michael said grabbing her hand as they ran to they car. Isabel began to use her powers to adjust the metals so they could look inside but when the opened it enough all that was left was a pile of dust and the suit Agent Burns wore when he was killed. “Seen this before?” Michael asked, but already knew her answer.

“It’s just how Nasedo died.” Isabel gasped.

“Meaning you killed Langley. Not the real Agent Burns.” Michael stated. “Let’s go.”

Sacred Heart Hospital

“Has rape become an epidemic lately? This is my 5th one today.” The doctor informed him, Donny looks at her shocked at the amount.

“Think is serial?” Donny asks the doctor.

“Don’t know until we run the semen for tests.” The doctor answers, closing Liz’s rape kit.

“How is she, Doc?” Donny asked, seeing Liz lying on the bed.

“As bad as she looks. We got deep lacerations. A good semen sample though. Inflammation of the pelvis...”

“She was a virgin?” Donny asked upset.

“Yeah. Who ever did this to this girl was planning to do it to her for a long time. There’s still adhesive on the edges of her mouth, cuts on her wrists means she was tied, it’s not rope burn though…” The doctor answered with a sad expression.

“Tie wraps.” Donny added. “We’re using them more now instead of handcuffs. Harder to get out of.”

“Mmmm.” Liz whined before she woke up, she saw Donny looking down at her with concern and held on to the side of her face.

“Hey, hey, you’re okay.” Donny said taking her hand. “I’m Detective Roma, what’s you’re name?”

“I-I-I don’t remember.”

Michael’s Place

I've been really wrong about a lot. But I was right about one thing: To get you into my life, to be around you, to love you.

Liz, you don't have to do this.

No, max. We are in this together. That's what we said. Together till the end.

Trust me. Trust me. Don't you want someone who can make all your dreams come true?
Yeah, I guess I do.
Then come on, Lois. Let's go.

Lost in the darkness of a land
Where all the hope that's offered is
Memories of being taken by the hand
And we are led into the sun

Midnight comes and we're together.
How are we gonna do that?
We'll find a way. Somehow, some way, we make it happen.
Max.
Liz.
Ok. We'll find a way.

But I don't have a hold on what is real
Though we can only try
What is there to give or to believe

Max?
Liz? You brought me back...
I guess that makes us even.

I'm here. I'll always be here.

I wanted a change knowing all I could do was try

“I wanted this for so long.”
“You don’t know how long I’ve wanted you…needed you like this.”
“Well, now you have me.”

“Liz, I can make it go away.”
“I don’t want the feeling to go away. I want to remember that it was you inside me that caused this feeling.”

I was looking for someone...

After random flashes of moments he and Liz shared...the first time they met, their first kiss, the first time they made love...Max bolted up, startling both Maria and Jesse. "She's alive!" Max exclaimed happy, with a smile from ear to ear. Just then the door flung open and Michael and Isaebl come storming in.

"It was a shape shifter." Michael announced.

"So that means..." Maria trailed off.

"The Agent that kidnapped us was...human." Max finished with a stunned look.
