Will my dad never give up on this…? I tell him over and over that I’m not interested in his cadets and such. I don’t want to be in the military… Unlike most guys my age, I don’t find the idea of having a gun exciting, and I don’t look on the chance to ‘serve my country’ as being heroic…
I accept fully that at some times fighting is necessary… I myself have fought with my older brothers so many times… And I have to say, I’ve gotten pretty good at it to say that I’m still by far the shrimp of the brood. My brothers are older and stronger than me…but when it comes down to it, I can hold my own…
The difference between us is that I don’t fight for fun though…they loved all the cadet training and such our father put them in for. I on the other hand have absolutely no interest.
I guess if I’m honest, my friends are more of a family than my dad or brothers… I have four very close friends, for whom I would do pretty much anything… They’re not exactly your average high school students – well not three of them anyway…they’re different, but I don’t care… The world would be pretty boring if everyone were the same…
I shrug and screw up the notice advertising the new cadet force, throwing it towards my bin. It misses of course…I’m not exactly co-ordinated, or skilled when it comes to sport – I tend to leave that to Kyle… I shake my head, getting up and grabbing it from the floor before depositing it in the bin and then returning to my desk.
My laptop is all set out and I touch to unlock the screen before I continue with what I was doing. I’m working on a new programme for computer studies…as it happens I’m almost done though and as I save it to my portable storage, I close the lid on my computer and grab my cell from the windowsill.
If I’m still here when my dad comes back, I know there’s going to be trouble, and right at this moment in time I really don’t want to deal with it. Therefore, the solution is to get out of here, and the best way is to try and arrange to meet some of the others. It’s been a while since we had a movie night…and maybe Max or Maria will let me crash for the night after at their place…
I shrug, deciding the idea is as good as any other and pressing a speed dial number. “Come on Max…pick up…” I mutter to myself as I wait to see if I’ll get any reply.
