First of all yes they are being irresponsible since Liz had only been on the pill for one day, but don't forget that Max would have no idea of how long she would need to be on it in order for it to work properly

Secondly, with Liz; yes she knows better but she's not using her head right now. But don't assume that just because they are sleeping together at the *right times* means it's that *easy* for her to get pregnant. It takes some people a hell of a lot longer if ever to get pregnant no matter what age.
So just keep those things in the back of your head. Oh! That's not to say that Liz isn't pregnant but well you'll have to wait won'tcha

Thanks so much for the feedback! I hope to be posting this story twice a week very soon, there is so much more to this story and I'm just working out the rest of the kinks!
Chapter 20
“Liz we need to stop.” Those words sounded foreign even to his ears, but it was true. It seemed as though that was the only thing she wanted to do with him. Shouldn’t it be the other way around, he thought.
“Stop? What do you mean?”
“Liz, you know what I mean. Let’s go out and do something.”
“We are doing something.” She huffed and sat back on the bed.
“Liz, your parents are down stairs. Didn’t Maria say that we have to meet them for the movies in a little while?”
“Yeah, so?”
“Liz.”
“Max.”
“Don’t you want to go?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Cause I want to stay here with you. I want to make love to you.” He rolled his eyes. He wanted that too, so much. But it wasn’t healthy even he knew as much for them to only be with each other. They needed to go out and do things.
“I want that too, but it will be fun, Liz.” Liz jumped off the bed as if he’d burnt her.
“Wait? Are you trying to say I’m some kind of…nymph?”
“Huh? I didn’t say that.”
“You didn’t have to!” She turned on her heels and stormed out of his room. He threw his head back. How the hell was he going to fix this?
He fixed his shirt and pants and walked across the hall to her room. Her door was closed, more like locked. He knocked but she yelled at him. Max knew she needed time, so he decided to go downstairs for a little while. He hoped that she would come downstairs so they could go out.
“Hi Max.” Jeff entered the room; he was getting ready to go out to dinner with his wife and heard yelling coming from upstairs as well as his daughter’s bedroom door slamming shut.
“Hi.” Max felt miserable. He hurt Liz’s feelings and by doing so he was breaking his own heart.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Liz?”
“Yeah.”
“You want to talk about it?” Jeff took a seat beside the young man; he could tell he was upset. Max wanted to talk about it. He needed someone to talk to, but this was his daughter. He couldn’t possibly tell him that she was upset because he wouldn’t sleep with her. No, Max didn’t see that conversation going over well.
“No.” But maybe he could avoid the subject and try to get advice anyway.
“She’s mad at me. I told her something and she took it the wrong way. I hurt her feelings.” Max finished miserably.
“I can understand that. Women, they don’t even understand themselves, I don’t know how they ever expect us to.” Jeff tried to lighten the mood, and he succeeded. Max was laughing to himself.
“Exactly.”
“Don’t worry, she’ll come around when she realizes that she jumped to conclusions.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes. Now why don’t you grab something to eat, aren’t you both supposed to be going out?”
“Yeah, when she decides to talk to me again.” Max quipped lightly.
“Right.”
“I’m ready!” Nancy announced as she descended the stairs.
Max made his way into the kitchen as soon as Jeff and Nancy left. He decided to make a sandwich for her and him; surely she would get hungry soon.
“What are you doing?” He heard her voice. His back was to her and he wanted to turn around but decided against it.
“Making you something to eat. I don’t want you to be hungry in the theater.” That is if she decided that she still wanted to go with him, he thought.
“Oh.” Liz entered the room slowly and took a seat on the stool at the counter. She watched as he cut her sandwich in half, just the way she liked it and put a pickle on the side. He placed the plate in front of her with a bottle of water. She smiled to herself, he knew her so well.
“I’m sorry.” Max stopped his movements and looked up at her. A small smile played on his lips.
“Me too.” They ate in silence until the phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Where the hell are you guys?”
“Shit! I’m sorry, we’re leaving right now Maria.” Liz hung up and turned to see Max standing in the doorway with her jacket in hand.
“Thanks.” She turned and allowed him to place it on her; they left the house shortly thereafter.
They decided to leave the subject alone for the moment. They had plenty of time to talk about it.

After the movie, they went to a local diner, where they met up with several people from school. It was a good three hours before they left. The ride home was filled with uncomfortable silence, Max honestly didn’t know what to do about it either.
He felt like if he said something, she would take it wrong. Liz felt stupid. In fact she was embarrassed. Did Max really thing that of her? Sure she knew she jumped to conclusions, but she knew she wasn’t too far from the truth. He didn’t want to sleep with her; maybe he just didn’t like it with her. Maybe he didn’t want to be with her anymore. Tears formed in her eyes and she blinked them back. She wouldn’t breakdown here.
Unfortunately, when they arrived home, Jeff and Nancy were in the living room watching television, which meant they would have to wait to talk.
“Hey kids! How was the movies?”
“Good. Great. I’m going to bed.” Liz stated and ran up the stairs. Max watched with a bewildered look on his face as she ran from him.
This was worse than he thought.
“Max?”
“Yes?” Nancy stood in front of him; she knew something was going on. Jeff had already made her aware of it. She just didn’t know what was wrong.
“You want to talk?” She asked him softly. Max turned to her, looked over her shoulder at Jeff who was doing a pretty good job of pretending like he wasn’t paying attention, and nodded.
Nancy took him by the shoulder and led him to the kitchen. Max thought that was where they were going to talk, but he was wrong. Nancy continued through the kitchen out the back door. She settled on the step and waited for Max to join her.
After a few minutes, Nancy thought she would have to make the first move, but she was wrong.
“She’s so angry with me.” Max mumbled out. He needed to fix this but he didn’t have a clue as to how. Hopefully Nancy could help. It was at times like this he really yearned for his mother.
“What about?”
“She misunderstood something I told her before. And I thought she was okay, when she came downstairs and we went to the movies, but as soon as we got in the car to come back home, she went back to ignoring me. And it’s killing me.” Max confessed softly. Nancy reached out a hand and placed it on his back.
“Well what was it?” Max snapped his head in her direction. He could not tell her!
“I can’t tell you.”
“Max, I know I’m her mother but you can talk to me.” Max swallowed nervously and proceeded to tell her.
“She thinks…that…I…” He couldn’t do it.
“That you?”
“That I don’t want her.”
“Oh!” Nancy was not expecting that. But knew that Max needed someone and he didn’t have anyone. She vowed no matter the situation she would always be there for him, this was not an exception.
“I’m sorry this is really weird.” Max apologized. But Nancy stopped him. She knew that Max talked to his mother about everything. Nancy knew he needed her. She liked Max and trusted him, he was honest and open and he didn’t lie to her.
“No, Max it’s okay. I know that you and your mother had a very open relationship and well I can’t say that I’m happy that my daughter is no longer a virgin. But I can say that if it had to be anyone that I’m happy it was you.”
“Really? Why?” Max asked very intrigued by Nancy’s confession.
“Because I know you love her. I know that I asked you to wait but I already knew that you meant to keep your intentions but my daughter is a little firecracker.” Nancy smiled, knowing Max knew exactly what she was talking about.
“That she is.” Max chuckled to himself.
“Max, this is hard I’m sure, but you are both young I just don’t want you two getting hurt.”
“I know but it seems like everything I do is just wrong for her.”
“No, that’s not it, Max…”
“No? Then what is it?” Did she have the answer? He hoped she did.
“It’s love Max. It’s complicated and you guys are really young. You grow up so fast you and forget to stop and look around and wait.”
“I know but Liz doesn’t want to hear it.”
“Then make her Max.” Max nodded and realized Nancy was right. He needed to get her to understand what he meant. And if she chose to stay upset with him, then he could take it. He wasn’t wrong and he couldn’t let her think otherwise.
****
“Liz?” He knocked on her door softly.
“Leave me alone, Max.” Liz sniffled softly.
“I can’t.”
“Learn to.” She retorted sarcastically.
“Liz, just let me explain. And after I’m done if you want me to leave, I will.” He didn’t want to but he would.
“Fine!” She hoped off the bed, unlocked the door and crawled back under her covers. She didn’t want to see him. She was being immature, but did he really think she was a fiend? She groaned inwardly. She was ashamed.
“Talk Max. Your time is running out.” Liz mumbled out and turned over to her side.
Max decided to sit beside her, not facing her so that he could say what he needed to say.
“Liz, I love you. Everything about you. And I want you, but that’s not all I want from you. I need you, all of you. I love spending time with you. I love making you laugh, seeing you smile, but most of all I love showing you off to the world. I want to be with you and we have the rest of our lives to make love, but we should enjoy other things…I didn’t mean to hurt you, but I…”
“You made me feel like you didn’t want me. Like I was doing something wrong.” Liz whispered out softly trying to hold back the sob that was threatening to escape past her lips.
Max turned quickly and laid down beside her. He brushed the hair away from her face and waited until she looked at him.
“I want you, Liz. God, do I want you and you didn’t do anything wrong. We just need to take things slow,” He couldn’t believe he was saying that, but it was true.
“I know. It’s just hard to stay away from you. I love being in your arms, I love the way you make me feel…” Max leaned in and kissed her forehead softly.
“I know, I love it too, but we have time, Liz.” She nodded and allowed him to cover her lips softly. They kissed each other gently and he pulled her closer to him, holding her until she fell asleep.
“I love you, Liz. Don’t ever think otherwise.”
“I won’t…I promise.” Liz mumbled out softly as sleep took over. Max held her a little longer before returning to his room.
He felt infinitely better, they had their first argument, he was sure there would be many more, but so long as they had their love and trust, Max knew they would be just fine.
