"I don't know," I say, wondering why it's my decision, although that's nothing new. Somehow I always seem to be the one leading the planning. "He's unconcious now. When we have an idea what we're doing, you can contact him and let him know what to expect."
Frowning, I realize that I haven't explained any of this to the Donovans. Not that they've really described exactly what 'scrying' or 'glamour' or other things mean for them. I've heard them in movies and seen them in books, but the details are always different. I would love to know what the truth of the magic is, but we really don't have time for explanations.
Still, I probably should clear up who is who.
"You may have already guessed but Maria and Tess are like me and Michael, although Alex and Kyle aren't," I say to Isabel and Liz and the others. I'm sure it's clear that Kyle isn't an alien, or his father wouldn't be hunting them, but I decided it was best to be completely clear. "The telepathy only works when we're awake, but Maria has a talen we call 'dreamwalking' that lets her visit people in their sleep and see what they're feeling and to even talk to them."

OOC: sorry for the very long delay, hope this works, obviously playing catch-up to some extent, still thinking about Serena, but I'm assuming she'll end up staying back since she doesn't have any powers...
~Liz~
As Isabel begins to chant, I frown…the words don’t sound quite right… I try and keep my concentration on the ritual, but somehow I can’t just forget about it and a moment later I realise what she’s doing… I look over at Adam, realising that he too has understood, and then back at Isabel. This is dangerous…more dangerous than any of us should be trying right now… Not the least because there are people that are inexperienced with magic present… Serena it’s different for, from the look on her face I know that her knowledge is enough for her to understand, but Max, Maria, Tess, Alex and Kyle… They have no way of knowing how important it is now not to break the circle… One careless movement, one mistake caused by shock, and it could all be over… I cannot believe that Isabel has tried this…
Adam tries to warn everyone of the danger, but I know that neither I, nor any of my cousins need that. It is for the benefit of the new people sat here, and I only pray that they will take note of what is said and keep the circle complete.
I watch the image in the mirror in silence, watching the events that I know are happening right at this moment in time. I close my eyes for a moment. I don’t want to see…I don’t want to see Michael in pain, I don’t want to see what they are doing to him… I just want him to be back here with us…safe… I swallow and force myself to open my eyes again as Adam begins the ritual proper.
The responses for me come as second nature, but always there is the feeling of worry, of fear… We can’t lost Isabel…we can’t…
When it comes to her part, I don’t know what to expect, but the words come almost as though out of the air… Certainly it is not Isabel speaking, not from her mouth anyway, although it is her voice…
The elements summoned then return to the mirror, the image in front of us unfreezing and a weapon fires. NO! Even over such the distance, however large or small it is, I feel Michael’s pain this time. Intense, terrible… His fear and concern…but more for us than himself… I feel the emotions around the circle strong and desperate, heightening with every moment. Yet as earlier I blocked, now I have to let them run through…I have to let their emotions enter my head as I force myself to refocus the energy this releases back into the circle.
Isabel returns to us and I feel an enormous weight lifted… It is only for a moment though , and as Isabel continues the ritual, widening the scrying to provide us with a location, my concern, worry, is back, although now focused soley on Michael rather than the both of them…
I watch carefully, taking note of every part of the image we are shown, and then, as the circle closes and the ritual ends, I shut my eyes, concentrating on Michael and Michael only. *We’re going to get you out Michael…I promise…* I send, using all the energy I have left.
It’s only when I close my eyes that I see that Isabel has collapsed. Adam cradles her in his arms, and now I feel guilty because I used up my last energy in making a possibly useless attempt to send a message that will probably never get through when I could have helped my cousin…
I sink down onto the sofa, unable really to do anything more for the moment, and watch in silence as Max comes forward and offers to help… That should have been me… I’m the healer, the one that keeps our group strong… *I'm sorry Isabel...*
I look over at Isabel as she comes to. “Promise me you won’t do that again Izzy…not without at least a warning…please…?” I tell her seriously. In understand her thinking, but losing one of us isn’t an option…we need the whole group, we have to be strong, and we need each other…
As Isabel asks if she missed something, I suddenly realise the tension, worry and fear I feel in this room is not all strictly because of Michael… It might be connected yes, but that’s not it…
Max finally explains, mentioning the man in the images, and then admitting that they know him…
This of course causes something of an intense reaction from Adam, although Isabel does try to calm him before it gets out of control. “You know I could do without your fire inside my head right now too…” I comment softly, trying to keep my tone even for fear that one of them might realise just how weak I’m feeling right now.
Adam responds, about to use her middle name and under any other circumstance I would laugh. Adam knows well enough that she hates using that… This is hardly a laughing situation though, and as Isabel quickly moves on to ask for an explanation, I sit back and wait to hear the answer…
In the end it’s not Max that answers though, but Kyle, and as soon as the words come from his mouth, I realise I should have known before… Maybe I would have, had I thought about it carefully enough, but I was too worried about Michael, and then Isabel…
Adam looks over at Isabel and I know he has something on his mind. I can almost sense the fact that he’s conversing with Isabel minus myself, and probably Cameron, and I purse my lips, about to say something verbally but Isabel beats me too it, apparently putting an end to whatever discussion they were having… I’d ask what it was, but I think we have more important things on our minds at the moment…
Cameron voices how strange is it that this man could be so close to Max and the others, yet not find them but Michael… Her response isn’t exactly what we want to hear I’m sure, but it’s true… s our fault…we’re the ones that practice our magic freely… We’re the ones that led this man to Michael, that much I am certain about…
As Isabel calls herself the bait, going as far as to suggest repeating that role, albeit differently, the reaction from Adam is intense and I echo his sentiments. Isabel’s response is good too though, she’s right that getting the others involved could cause more problems than provide help, but still I don’t want to see her putting herself in danger like that…
I’m relieved when Max makes another suggestion that seems a viable alternative, although of course details will have to be figured out carefully…
Actual planning is put off for the moment as Adam mentions something that Isabel would obviously rather keep until another time. The first question is of course who is going…
Adam is first to say he is, closely followed by Max who says that Tess should go too, mentioning something about her helping to hide us. Details are still lacking, but for now I’ll chose to trust his judgement on that one…certainly he knows his own group’s powers better than any of us… He proceeds to volunteer slightly more details about his own group, ending with a mention of ability Maria has which probably explains her earlier mentions of Michael…
“I want to come with you…” I comment in a soft but firm voice, looking up at Isabel and Adam as Max finishes. They’re likely going to fight me I know, but I can’t just sit here and do nothing…

“We will Ria…We will…” I tell Maria as she begins to cry. I wrap my arms around her, pulling her closer and looking round at the others.
Max moves to help Isabel, and a moment later as she sits up, apparently ‘restored’ by Max’s usual healing magic, and asks if she missed something…
It’s hardly surprising she thinks she did…the tension in the room could be cut by a knife I’m sure and it’s come to a point where there’s no way to put it off any longer… Max finally admits that we know who the man holding Michael is, although it’s Kyle that actually gives the final answer… I can’t imagine how he must be feeling…
Discussion continues as to how Jim could have found Michael, and yet is still in the dark about Max and the others… The answer comes out as simple… They’re careful, they hide, while apparently the Donovans are more well known…
Next comes the question of how to get Michael out of course, and Isabel’s suggestion of being ‘bait’ again certainly would provoke the same reaction from me as it does from Adam… Luckily Max points out that we don’t need ‘bait’… We know where the base is, all we need to do is get in…
“I’ll see what I can do about getting hold of site plans for you…” I volunteer, knowing that this is one place I can help, although when it comes to the actual rescue I should probably stay behind with Kyle…
In making my offer, I almost miss the soft voice of the petite brunette of the other group…almost, but not quite… She sounds determined, and somehow I don’t think she’s going to take no as an answer…

Kyles fierce promise to protect me warms my heart and his strong arms give me solace. I trust this boy, I know him. With him I am safe, and will be safe, no matter what. I bury my head in his chest, feeling soothed by the regular beating of his heart, but I look up when I feel it start to speed up. Kyle rises, pulling me along with him and I feel him tremble slightly. He straightens and squares his shoulders before telling the group who the man holding Michael really is. I want to stop him, to protect him, to make it different, but I can’t so I just stand here, holding him tightly, letting him know that I will be here for him, as he is for me, always.
There is a short silence for a moment, but it seems that Adam and Isabel are discussing something telepathically, a suspicion that is confirmed a second later when she says aloud Enough! She reaches out a hand and I tense, afraid of her intentions, but I’m reassured when she speaks I'm sorry, Kyle. There's a chance that he's being manipulated into feeling and doing things that wouldn't be him normally.
Kyle tries to explain, and I know it’s for our benefit, as well as the newcomers and most importantly himself. He always holds himself to a high standard and I know he is blaming himself, afraid he may have put us in danger.
The start to discuss plans, and reasons and bait but I ignore them, concentrating on Kyle, lightly stroking his hair, feeling his chest rise and fall as he breathes. Max will tell me what I need to do, Kyle will help me figure out how to do it and everything will work out. I’ve decided to be the optimism of the group, no matter what I will have faith that this will all work out in the end.
He doesn’t disappoint and I hear him volunteering me to help with the rescue mission, explaining as simply as possible about my powers and how they could help. Kyle should probably stay, unless we know for sure his dad is home. If the sheriff saw him, it would be bad.
I’m nodding in agreement, when I feel Kyle shake his head. Are you sure? If it went bad and I were there, I might be able to convince him to let us go.
I’m about to protest when I see Max agree with me and I sigh.
Maria volunteers her powers and I smile and frown, wondering why she suddenly cares so much. She’s normally very cautious and convincing her to let us tell Alex and Kyle was a huge ordeal, and now she seems like she would happily stick her neck out for someone that we haven’t actually met yet.
Max tries to explain our roles to the others and Liz and Alex volunteer to help as well. I decide it might be a good time to jump in with a fuller explanation of my powers. “We call my power mindwarping. I can make you see things that aren’t there, or not see things that are. I can also make you forget situations as if something never happened.
I’ll do whatever you need Max, you know I’ve got your back.” I glance at Kyle, knowing he won’t be happy about the next part.
“But only if Kyle doesn’t have anything to do with it, I won’t have him in the middle and I can’t be worried about him.”

The problem with changing the world is that it makes any life beyond that impossible...
*Kyle*
I'm not sure what to think of Max trying to keep me here. I don't want to meet Dad there and have to convince him of our intentions. One think I do know is that Dad can be very stubborn. He doesn't change his mind without evidence and I'm not so sure that sneaking into a facility like that is going to be evidence of the right sort...
Still, I'm sure I'd have a much better chance than Max or Tess or Maria...
Max explains that I'm not 'like him,' which was probably obvious. But Tess surprises me. "I’ll do whatever you need Max, you know I’ve got your back. But only if Kyle doesn’t have anything to do with it, I won’t have him in the middle and I can’t be worried about him.”
"I'm not helpless!" I say, feeling insulted. It seems worse to hear that from her than when Max was suggesting I stay behind. Still, I know I don't have powers like everyone here -- except Alex. Biting my lip, I make a tentative suggestion. "If we can get him out of there, then I can keep him occupied, somehow. Turn off his cell phone and stuff???" I look around, biting my lip.
"I don't want you to have to wait, but I know you'll need time to come up with a plan. I just don't know how to get dad out of there..." If Dad really is the alien-hunter he seems to be, I can't see him coming home any time soon, not when he finally has one that he knows about. He already told me that he wasn't coming home any time soon...

Kyle's hurt expression and mutinous glare are proof positive of his frustration with what I said to Max. I know that I've upset him and I'm sorry for that, but I can't worry about him and focus on the task at hand and I know that I couldn't help myself from worrying if he were involved. He doesn't give up easily, one of the reasons I care about him so much really. So he tries again, appealing to everyone with his big blue eyes. If we can get him out of there, then I can keep him occupied, somehow. Turn off his cell phone and stuff? I don't want you to have to wait, but I know you'll need time to come up with a plan. I just don't know how to get dad out of there...
I just look at Max again, knowing that if he agrees with me then Kyle won't be able to change it. "Max, I meant what I said. I'll do anything, but I can't if Kyle's put in any danger."
Trying to make him understand and also to cushion the blow I take Kyle's hand and pull him a little away from the others. "Kyle, please understand, I won't be able to concentrate enough to do anything if I'm worried about you." My voice cracks slightly "You're too important to me, and I can't risk you or what we need to do here, it's just too much. Please don't be angry with me"

I look at Tess, understanding completely what she means about wanting to keep Kyle out of danger. I'm not happy about any of us going into a dangerous situation, but I know that Tess and Maria and I have powers that should help keep us a little bit safer. Besides, we have to take some sort of risk if we're going to get Michael out of there and there is simply no way we could ever think about leaving him in that place.
"Tess," I say gently. "I don't think Kyle is going to be in any danger if he's with his dad." Not like the rest of us would be or Michael already is, I tell myself. "Right now, I don't know if getting him out of there is reasonable or not, but if we could get him back to Roswell then having Kyle occupy him might be a good idea."
Looking at Kyle, I concider it a bit more. "The trouble is, how would we get him back to Roswell quickly? You could call and tell him you were hurt, but it wouldn't go well when he got there and saw that you weren't. I don't know what else might take him away from that." We'd probably have to give Kyle a real injury and I don't think I want to go that far.

“I’ll see what I can do about getting hold of site plans for you…” I hear Alex say and turn to smile at him.
"That would be excellent. If you need a computer to use, we have one right over there." I pointed to the enclosed hutch where the computer was settled behind the currently closed doors. Then I glanced over to the others and tried to determine what course to take.
Listening to Max, Tess and the others speak, I tried to formulate a plan. Finally something Max said gave me an idea. "The trouble is, how would we get him back to Roswell quickly? You could call and tell him you were hurt, but it wouldn't go well when he got there and saw that you weren't. I don't know what else might take him away from that."
"We can help with that." I look at Kyle, "If you are willing to remain behind and think you can act extremely well, I can make it appear you are injured and with a bit of magic Serena and any others that remain can be a part of the plan."
Seeing looks of confusion I sighed as I tried to determine how to explain. After a moment, I nodded to myself. "Cameron, Serena, I need you to stay with Kyle. We'll use glamour to create different appearances for the two of you and we'll also use the same to create the appearance of injury." I looked back at Kyle, "Kyle, what sort of injury do you feel that you could easily fake a reaction to? I can have Cam and Serena appear to be paramedics and we can use magic to create an illusion around one of our cars in order to make it look like an ambulance."
There had been times when our family had ended up needing to use those sorts of powers before and though it was a taxing performance, it was something that I knew we could do.

Alex heads for the computer and I have to smile internally. No magic and no alien powers, but his contribution may be the most important part of this -- the part that will spell the difference between success and failure, between a good plan or one that's all just luck.
Then Isabel starts explaining that Cameron and Serena can help Kyle fake a serious enough injury to get the Sheriff out of the base.
"Kyle, what sort of injury do you feel that you could easily fake a reaction to? I can have Cam and Serena appear to be paramedics and we can use magic to create an illusion around one of our cars in order to make it look like an ambulance." Isabels asks.
"I guess a concussion would be easy," Kyle says trying to guess. "I'd only have to be dazed or unconcious, right? But maybe a broken leg or something? Would that be enough? Maybe broken ribs would be better."
"That's all fine, but it's only part of the plan," I say, turning to Isabel. "It would be great to get the Sheriff out of there, but he's not the only one. Can we spend three people to occupy just him? Maybe we should figure out what we're going to need inside the base, first." It'll just be Isabel, Liz, Adam, Tess and me, as far as I can tell. Will that be enough? Will it be too many? We need those plans if we're going to begin to figure it out...
