Part 1

In the beginning

Liz Parker had never been one of those girls that went weak at the knees for a bad boy. She preferred her men to be smart, reliable and loyal. She didn’t want to experience the butterflies in the stomach or the nervous fluttering of her heart because honestly, it just didn’t sound too healthy. No, Liz certainly didn’t want some bad boy coming along and disrupting her life. She was perfectly content with her lot in life. She had a nice family, excellent friends, a reasonable job and apartment plus an adorable cat called Pippin.

Oh and then there was Adrian. Adrian Linwood was the poster child for the perfect boyfriend. He was not only smart, reliable and loyal, he was also so good looking that he put Michelangelo’s David to shame. There was only one problem with Adrian and really it was just a teeny little problem. A problem that mainly Maria couldn’t stand. And it wasn’t really even a problem more a microscopic flaw. He was just a little…

“Boring!” Maria Deluca stated in disgust. “I swear chica, Michael fell a sleep in ten seconds flat. And that is a record even for Michael!”

“Adrian isn’t boring!” Liz defended her boyfriend half-heartedly. They had had this conversation way too many times and Liz was getting slightly tired of it. Adrian wasn’t boring, okay so maybe he was a little boring sometimes but then there were times when he was enthralling. With Adrian, Liz knew exactly where she stood. There was no second guessing or fears that he might be seeing somebody else or that he was going to disappear out of her life without so much as a word. No, with Adrian, Liz was safe. Their relationship was comfortable and safe just the way Liz liked it.

“What you’re experiencing now is called denial. Max, girlfriend, back me up here. Max?” Maria waved a hand in front of Max’s face. “Hello? Earth to Max?”

Liz’s smile softened as she looked at her ex boyfriend. It had been four years since they had broken up. It had been hard at first, almost unbearable but she had gotten over him and in the last three years they had built a strong friendship, a friendship that Liz valued greatly.

“When is she getting here?” Liz asked, relieved to be able to change the subject. The she in question being Serena Macalister, Max’s girlfriend of two years. She watched in amusement as Max’s ears began to turn pink with the embarrassment of being caught out.

“She said she wanted to surprise me” Max mumbled, his eyes still firmly glued on the entrance of The Crashdown. “I don’t like surprises. All I wanted to do was pick up my girlfriend from the airport and then get her into the back seat of my…” He flushed a darker shade of pink when he noticed that Maria and Liz were both staring at him with raised eyebrows. “I’m gonna shut up now,”

“Smart move, Romeo” Maria said with a roll of her eyes, “Now if we could get back to the subject! Max, would you please tell Liz that her boyfriend is boring!”

“Ugh! Maria, do we have to talk about this?” Liz groaned. The topic of conversation was quickly growing old and Liz knew that if she allowed herself to even think about Maria‘s words, she would start questioning her relationship with Adrian and then she would have doubts. Doubts that would lead to questions such as why was she with him? Liz asked herself the same question often but then she remember that Adrian was never going to break her heart. And he loved her, she knew he did since he told her every chance he got while she mumbled a quick ‘me too’.

“Yes we have to talk about this! As your best friends, its mine and Max’s…” She elbowed Max in the stomach to get his attention. “responsibility to help you see the light! Right, Max?”

“Adrian isn’t that…” He stopped mid sentence and abruptly got to his feet.

“Uh oh, his Serena senses must be tingling,” Liz laughed as she watched Max moving towards the front of The Crashdown. The bell rang as the door was pushed opened to reveal Serena. Liz watched in amusement as the couple stood still as they absorbed each other before there was a shriek of delight and Serena flew across the room into Max’s arms. Liz felt a pang of jealousy as she watched the embracing couple. Serena and Max were so happy and in love that she couldn’t help but envy them a little.

“Jeez, do those have two have to be so nauseating?” Maria asked wrinkling her nose in disgust. “Get a room already!”

“That was the plan!” Max said with a grin. Serena was firmly attached to his side and glowing with happiness.

“Max!” Serena said, pretending to be outraged. She beamed at Liz and Maria before embracing them. “Are you still up for that sleepover tonight, Liz? I bought While You Were Sleeping, Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing with me.”

“Sounds great!” Liz nodded with a smile. She had been looking forward to this night with Serena for ages. Unlike Maria, Serena didn’t find the need to constantly bitch about Adrian or attempt to set her up on blind dates with hopeless losers. Okay, so Serena hadn’t met Adrian yet and she didn’t know anyone outside of the gang in Roswell but that wasn’t the point.

There was gasp of horror from Max, who looked slightly aghast at the idea of losing his girlfriend for the night. “I thought we were going to have our own private sleepover tonight!”

“But I thought that you and the guys were going to be watching the hockey game” Serena said with a frown. “You told me that you were going to be watching the game all night.”

“I am but I thought you would be watching it with me.” Max said with a pout, hoping that the puppy dog eyes would make Serena rethink her plans.

“Pfft. You mean, you thought that I would be waiting on you hand and foot. Well, think again buddy cause I‘m staying at Liz‘s tonight.” Serena stated. She ruffled his hair affectingly, “But we’ve got all of the afternoon and we could…”

Serena didn’t get to finish her sentence as Max heaved her to feet and was dragging her out of The Crashdown. Serena waved and called back, “I’ll see you later, Liz. Bye Maria!”

Maria rolled her eyes again, “Ugh. They are such teenagers. Last time Serena was here, me and Michael caught her and Max making out in our laundry room!”

Liz raised an eyebrow, “What were you and Michael planning do in laundry room?”

“Laundry,” Maria said but the blush that stained her cheeks suggested that laundry had been the last thing on the agenda. “Anyway, I better get going as well. My mom wanted me to drop in and see her because apparently I’ve been neglecting my daughterly duties. Have fun tonight!”

The unmistakable scent of cedar oil and rose petals filled Liz’s senses as Maria hugged her quickly. “And remember, if Serena offers you a margarita say no! We don’t want a repeat performance of the last time you two got a little too chummy with tequila and co.” Maria grinned wickedly at Liz. “Then again, I don’t think Adrian has ever met your dark side.”

“I don’t have a dark side, Maria!” Liz said with a groan. Her cheeks were burning as she remembered the night her and Serena had overindulged themselves with margaritas. It had seemed like a good idea at the time.

“Sure, you don’t chica.” Maria said not sounding at all convincing.

“I thought you had to get going”

“Crap. I do, I do. Behavior tonight!”

Before Liz could even say bye, Maria was out the door. She smiled. Life was good, it wasn’t perfect but it was good enough to leave her with a feeling of contentment. Yep, life was good!

***

“Are you sure Max doesn’t mind you staying with me tonight?” Liz asked Serena as she dropped another couple of chocolate bars into the shopping cart. The shopping cart already contained two tubs of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, four different types of chips, pop corn and cookies.

“Oh please, he‘s too busy watching that stupid hockey game!” Serena said with a roll of her eyes and a disgusted tut. “As I was leaving he patted me on the head and told me to behavior. I felt like a poodle or something”

“I’m sure he will make it up to you tomorrow,” Liz stated as she added some more junk food to the cart.

Serena shrugged, “Maybe. Anyway enough about Max and me. Tell me about this Adrian. He sounds nice.”

Liz groaned slightly, she had hoped that she could avoid talking about Adrian for at least a night. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Adrian because she did, she liked him a lot. It was just that Maria’s continuous bitching about him had put her on the edge. “He is nice,”

“Wow, you sound like you’re madly in love with him,” Serena said sarcastically, “Come on Parker, you can do a little better then nice? Do you want me to suggest some words?”

Liz couldn’t help smiling nostalgically when Serena called her Parker, there had only ever been one other person that had called her Parker and that had been Sean Deluca and it had been three years since he had left Roswell without so much as a see ya later, he had just disappeared one night.

His Aunt Amy would sometimes drop little pieces of new information about him into conversation. For example, two months ago Amy had told Liz that Sean was now living in Montana and was working as a firefighter. It was hard to imagine Sean doing something so normal and so legal.

Sometimes Liz would miss him more then she cared to admit and other times she would hate him for leaving. Her feelings were in constant turmoil whenever she thought about him and she hated it. She hated not being able to understand herself and her feelings where he was concerned.

“Ow! That hurt, Serena.” Liz rubbed her arm where Serena had pinched her out of her thoughts.

“Yeah, well you could at least pretend to listen to me.” Serena said with a roll of her eyes. “So where were we? Oh yeah, Adrian. Come on girl, give me some details. Is he short? Tall? Eye color? Shoe size? Don’t hold out on me,”

“He’s tall, about the same height as Max. Blonde and he has…” Liz hesitated and frowned. She couldn’t remember what color eyes he had. She was a horrible, horrible girlfriend. Most likely the worst girlfriend in the world and if there was an award for being the worst girlfriend possible then it would be won by her. “I think we should get a bottle of tequila!”

“Oh yay! Margaritas, yum!” Serena said, clapping her hands together. “But I kind of promised Max that I wouldn‘t let you mislead me again ‘cause margarita is the drink of evil. Hold on a second, what just happened in that head of yours?”

“I just came to the realization that I’m the worst girlfriend on the planet. And hey, you’re the one that gets me into trouble!”

Serena ignoring the last part of Liz’s sentence and forced on the worst girlfriend part, “Why are you the worst girlfriend?”

“I can’t remember what color eyes Adrian has and I should know what color eyes my boyfriend has since it is a something a girlfriend, at least a good girlfriend, would know.” Liz explained.

“You are not the worse girlfriend in the world, Liz. Don’t try and give yourself a title you don’t deserve.” Serena said, “I bet there are hundreds of guys that have girlfriends a lot worse then you. I mean, do you beat Adrian with a frying pan or sleep with other guys behind his back?”

“Well no but…”

“But what?” Serena asked with a raise eyebrow. “Liz, you’re beautiful, smart and just a all round great person to be with. I’m willing to bet anything that Adrian is over the moon that you are his girlfriend and don’t try and do the whole modest mouse act because you know that you‘ve gorgeous and I mean that in a completely non lesbian way,”

“Ugh, can we please just leave this topic of discussion until I’ve had a margarita and we’ve watched one of the chick flicks?” Liz said as she blushing before mumbling to herself, “And to think, I thought you would be less annoying then Maria.”

“Max says that I’m adorably annoying,” Serena said with a grin.

Liz snorted, “Max says a lot of stupid things,”

“Hey!”

Liz rolled her eyes as she added the tequila to the cart. “Right, I think that that is everything.”

“I guess that means its party time at the Parker residence,” Serena laughed.

Liz groaned at the lameness of Serena’s comment, “Max isn’t the only one that says a lot of stupid things,”

“You’re lucky that I love ya Parker otherwise I would totally kick your ass, Muhammad Ali style.” Serena punched the air playfully and danced from foot to foot, “You know, float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!”

There was another groan from Liz, “Serena, I swear you spend too much time in the sun. It must have melted a couple of brains cells or something.”

“You know that…” Serena’s sentence was cut off by the ringing of her cell phone. “Its Max,” Serena stated with a smile at Liz before she answered. “Hey Max, how‘s the hockey game going?” There was a pause. “We’re in the supermarket buying enough junk food to feed a small army. Will you still love me if I end up getting as fat as a whale?” There was another pause and then Serena laughed huskily into the phone. “I miss you too…”

Liz watched with a sigh as Serena walked away, talking lovingly to Max. She tried to ignore that prickle of jealousy and sense of longing. Sometimes she wished that her and Adrian were a little more like Serena and Max. Okay, so the whole long distance thing that the couple had going on sucked royally but they were in love and they didn’t care who knew it.

There and then, Liz made a silent promise. She was going to be the best possible girlfriend she could be for Adrian. She was going to do everything in her power to make sure that their relationship lasted and nothing was going to stand in her way.

And at number one on her list of things to do was to find out what color eyes Adrian had.

Part 2

And just when you think it couldn’t get any worse

The sun shone much too brightly for Liz’s liking who sat in The Crashdown wearing a pair of dark sunglasses and baseball cap as she nursed a cup of steaming hot coffee. For that matter, even Serena seemed to be shining a little to brightly that morning as well. Liz watched the taller brunette who was happily humming and tapping a beat on the table top. Liz tried not to wince as the sound of each tap hammered at her aching head.

It really just wasn’t fair. They had drunk exactly the same amount of margaritas the night before and yet she was the only one suffering while Serena was acting like Mary bloody Poppins. It just wasn’t fair at all.

“I feel like crap,” Liz moaned after swallowing a couple of painkillers.

“You look it as well,” Serena beamed. “You know, you really shouldn’t drink coffee if you have a hang over. It aggravate dehydration or so I read somewhere.”

“Yeah well, you aggravate me.” Liz muttered darkly as she had another sip of her coffee. The coffee helped her stay awake and she needed all the help she could get. It hadn’t been her idea to go to The Crashdown and meet everyone at such a ungodly hour so she wasn’t going to pretend to happy about it when she should be all cozy and warm in her bed with Pippin purring beside her as they watched the Saturday morning cartoons.

“I love you too,” Serena said with another bright smile.

“You’re so evil!” Liz stated glaring at Serena. Serena’s smile seemed to brighten a little more as she continued to hum.

“You look like crap.” Maria stated as she joined them.

“I know.” Liz mumbled.

Maria fished around in her bag for a few seconds before producing a range of different vitamins. “I’ve got some cysteine, vitamin C and vitamin B-complex, which should help kick that hangover of yours into shape. You can thank me later when you are feeling more human.”

Liz grumbled a few nonsense words and reached across the table for the vitamins. The temptation to go and hide in her old bedroom above The Crashdown was nearly too much for Liz to take. All she wanted to do was sleep for a few more hours before she had to go and meet Adrian for a late lunch. Taking another luxurious sip of her coffee, Liz began to ponder what she should wear for her date. Today was the first day of project: perfect girlfriend and she wanted to make sure that everything went to plan.

“Sean’s back in town.”

Liz spat her coffee out in a mixture of shock and horror. Her eyes widened in disbelief. Her mind was racing a mile a minute as she tried to understand Maria’s sentence. Sean was back in town, how was that even possible? He was meant to be in Montana. And how could Maria just spring something like this on her without any warning?

“Eww, that is so gross. You’re meant to drink the coffee, not shower your friends in it!”

“Wh…why is he back in town?” Liz managed to choke out the words.

“There was an accident,” Maria said and Liz felt the icy cold hand of fear grip her heart as Maria’s words hit her like a bucket of cold water. “Nothing to worry about though,” Maria continued, “He only broke his leg and since there isn’t anyone to look after him in Montana, he has come to make our life a hell for the next eight weeks.”

Liz’s heartbeat began to return to normal. “What happened?”

Maria shrugged, “I suspect he fell out of a tree rescuing a cat or something. He was really vague about it when I went over to see him this morning at my mom’s.” Maria shrugged again making Liz want to beat her with a stick until she gave up some more details.

Sean was back in town. How was that even possible? God, just thinking about it make her dizzy. He was back in town, after three years Sean Deluca was back in Roswell.

“Who’s Sean?” Serena asked obviously not liking being left out of the loop.

“My boneheaded cousin,” Maria said with a roll of her eyes. “Honestly, just when you think things couldn’t get much worse, Sean jumps into the picture and messes up everything,”

“Well, color me confused.” Serena said as she gave Liz a questioning look. Liz shrugged, not trusting herself to say anything where Sean was involved.

Luckily, she was saved from answering any of Serena’s future questions by the entrance of Max and Michael. Talk about saved by the bell. Conversation quickly flared up around her, giving her a chance to be alone with her thoughts. She was still in a state of shock with Maria’s words ringing in her ears.

“Liz, are you feeling okay? You look a little pale.”

Max’s concerned voice broke through Liz’s haze of thoughts and gave her the perfect excuse to escape.

“Actually, I’m feeling a little sick. I think I’ll give breakfast a miss and go home to get some sleep instead.” Liz said, grabbing all her belongings. “I’ll give you guys a call later.”

And before anyone could say a word, Liz power walked right out of The Crashdown and straight into her worse nightmare. Obviously, Liz thought in dismay, today was just going to be one of those days.

“Oh my God, hey Eliza! Wow, I just love what you’re wearing. The trailer trash look really suits you!”

Liz groaned to herself as she looked up at the owner of the voice. Tall, blonde and beautiful, Natasha Anderson was the definition of the word annoying and a pain in Liz’s ass. Natasha’s main goals in life all involved making Liz’s life hell and the only reason Liz tolerated her at all was because she was Adrian’s best friend.

“You are such a flatterer!” Liz said with a sweet smile. “Oh and I love what you are wearing by the way. The whole drag queen thing you got going on is awesome”

“That’s cute, Eliza. No wonder Adrian likes you so much, you‘re like this adorable little puppy.” Natasha said with a smile faker then Pamela Anderson’s breasts and Liz knew for a fact that Natasha was the sort of person who kicked adorable little puppies for fun. “You know Eliza…”

Liz didn’t bother pointing out that her name was Liz not Eliza as she tuned the blonde out and tried to find her happy place. She had given up long ago trying to get the blonde to get her name right. Some things in life really were mission impossible.

“Well, I would love to stay and chat,” Liz lied. “But I’ve got things to do. It was great seeing you again. We really should meet up for coffee sometime.” Another lie but Liz was starting to get desperate because Natasha had an evil gleam in her eyes that suggested she was up something.

“Actually Eliza, there something I‘ve been meaning to talk to you about.”

‘Just when I thought today couldn‘t get any worse…’ Liz thought as she tried not to groan. ‘It goes and gets a whole lot worse!”

***

“Who is Liz talking to?” Serena asked.

“Where?” Maria asked craning her neck to get a better view. “Oh, that Cruella De Vil wannabe?” Maria said with a look of distaste on her face. “Its Adrian’s best friend, Natasha.”

“Liz looks about ready to jump her!” Michael said with glee as he stuffed a couple Tabasco covered fries into his mouth. “Just add mud and we’ve got ourselves a…ouch. Damn it, Maria! What was that for?”

“You’re such a perv,” Maria said glaring at her boyfriend. “And I thought that Liz had the worse boyfriend in the world…”

Taking this as the perfect time to bring up the subject of Adrian, Serena grabbed Maria’s attention away from Michael, “So about Adrian. Give me some details, Liz didn‘t give anything a way at all last night, I gave her half a bottle of Tequila and still couldn’t get any of the interesting details.”

Maria leaned forward, ready to give the brunette every single detail that she had. It was no secret that Maria didn’t think that Adrian was good enough for her best friend and she was on a mission to find Liz the perfect man.

“Don’t Serena!” Max warned his girlfriend already sensing where she was planning to go with the conversation. “Don’t even think about interfering,”

“I’m sorry, have we met?” Serena asked, a perfectly shaped eyebrow raised in disbelief. “I don’t interfere, I merely subtly guide.”

“Serena, you interfere.” Max stated. A hundred different occasions of Serena and her interfering fluttered through his mind. “Remember that time you tried to get me and Liz back together. You were about as subtle as a pink elephant.”

“I only did that because I loved you and wanted you to be happy.” Serena pouted as she flushed at the memory. It had not been one of her proudest moments but the thought had been there and that’s what really counted.

“But I was in love with you.”

“Yeah, well. You didn’t disclose to me that piece of information at the time did you. And if that elephant reference is a dig at me, you‘re be sleeping alone again buddy!” Serena huffed, her arms folded across her chest as she glared at Max.

Her glare didn’t last long as Max leaned closer to her and murmured something into her ear as he wrapped one of her curls around his finger. Giggles and more murmurs followed as Serena and Max got lost in their own little world much to the horror of the couple who sat across from them.

“You two better break it up otherwise I’m going to get the hose!”

“I hate to say this but I agree with Michael,” Maria said. “Can we please get back to the important subject of Adrian and Liz.”

“Right, okay. Back to business. Tell me everything.”

***

His eyes were blue, Liz noted and stored the little piece of information in her memory. Adrian sat across from her, the definition of sophistication in his black Armani suit and tie. His blonde hair was slicked back without a single strand out of place and Liz had the most childish longing to mess it up. She had never seen him look anything short of perfect and for some reason it annoyed her.

Her thoughts quickly turned to another annoying blue eyed male against her will. Sean. He was back in Roswell with a broken leg so if she chose to hunt him down, he wouldn’t be able to run. The idea of Sean at her mercy appealed to her more then it should and she quickly pushed away all non platonic thoughts. She wanted answers, she wanted to know why he had left without saying good bye.

“Liz, honey. Are you okay?” Adrian asked with a concerned look. He reached across the table and took her hand in his. “You’ve been so quiet today.”

She tried to smile brightly, “I’m fine. I was just thinking about some things.”

“What sort of things?” Adrian asked.

Liz hesitated as she tried to think of something to say. She could hardly tell him the truth, that she had been thinking about another man. That really wouldn’t help project: perfect girlfriend very much. Of course, lying to him wasn’t going to help project: perfect girlfriend either.

“Just something Maria told me earlier. It was nothing really.” Liz said vaguely, hoping that he wouldn’t press the subject. Quick to change the subject, Liz smiled at him and asked, “Do you want to go and get some ice cream?”

“I’m pretty sure they sell ice cream here,” Adrian said with a bemused smile at the change of subject.

“I know but I thought it might be fun to go and eat it in the park before you have to go back to work. it’s a beautiful day.” Liz said. “Come on, you know you want to.”

“Okay. I’ll go and pay for this and then we can go for ice cream,” Adrian stated. He rose from his chair and then helped Liz up from hers, always playing the perfect gentleman.

“I’ll meet you outside,” Liz said.

Outside, the sun shone brightly in the clear blue sky. A soft breeze caressed Liz’s face as she searched through her bag for her sunglasses.

“Ah crap,” She cursed softly as her bag slipped from her grasp and fell to the floor, spilling some of its contents. Couching to ground, Liz started to retrieve her belongings unaware of what was going on around her.

“I think this belongs to you,”

Liz froze, a wave of emotion hitting her like a tidal wave at the sound of the familiar male voice. How long had been since she heard that voice? Her mind had gone blank. She stood up slowly, her knees suddenly feeling weak and pasted a smile to her face, ready to face the man who had broken her heart.

“Hey Sean.”

Part 3

Something to Talk About

"Hey Parker,” Sean grinned at her, a familiar twinkle in his blue eyes. “I think this belongs to you,”

There was a plain black hair band dangling on the end of one of his crutches and Liz grabbed it quickly, embarrassed that their first meeting in three years had involved her picking the contents of her purse from the floor.

“Thanks.” She said, her cheeks heating with embarrassment.

“No problem,” Sean replied, still wearing his trademark grin.

Hearing about his return hadn’t prepared her for seeing him. Her stomach did a strange flip flop, which she would later blame on the tequila from the previous night.

He was still insanely gorgeous, Liz admitted silently to herself before quickly shoving the thought out of her head with as much strength as she could gather. What did she care if he was still gorgeous? She didn’t care. She couldn’t have cared any less if she tried. The fact that he was still insanely gorgeous was irrelevant to her. He could have been fat and ugly for all she cared.

“So, how have you been?” Sean asked, breaking the silence that had descended on them.

How have I been?’ Liz pondered the question. She didn’t want him to think that she was still hung up on him, that she had spent the last three years pining over him because she hadn’t. She was fine.

“Great. Really, really great.” She stated with what she hoped was a sunny smile. She briefly considered adding another couple of really to her sentence before dismissing the idea before it had even had a chance to form into something more.

“That’s…great.” Sean said before glancing down at her left hand. “Evans still hasn’t made an honest woman of you, huh? I would have thought that you two crazy kids would be living it up in matrimonial bliss by now.”

“Max and I haven’t been together for four years.” Liz stated, confused by Sean’s words. For a split second, she wondered if Sean had hit his head when he broke his leg or if the painkillers the doctor must have given Sean to help his leg was having some crazy effect on his brain. “The only type of bliss we have together is of the friendship kind.”

“But Maria said…”

“Lizzie!”

Amy Deluca had the same timing as her daughter. Awful.

“Hey, Amy.” Liz smiled although her head was buzzing with Sean’s words. But Maria said…what the hell had Maria said? And why had it given Sean the idea that her and Max were together.

“Did Sean tell about how he broke his leg?” Amy asked. “I’m so proud of him.”

“Aunt Amy, I don’t think that Liz wants to hear about it.” Sean mumbled.

Amy ignored him and beamed with pride. “He saved a little boy from a fire. It was a pretty close call for the boy but luckily for him, Sean was passing by and risked his life to save him. Sean had to jump from an upstairs window with the child in his arms to get out of the house. He’s a hero.”

“I‘m not a hero.” Sean mumbled, his cheeks were colored with embarrassment. “Its part of my job.”

“Don’t be so modest.” Amy ordered. “You never use to be so modest.”

While Amy continued to ramble on about modesty, Liz took the opportunity to study Sean. He had changed. Somewhere in the last three years, he had grown up. She was hit with the sudden longing to discover all of his secrets, to discover the new Sean who looked exactly the same as the old Sean.

“You’ve grown up,” Liz murmured before she could stop herself.

“Everyone’s gotta grow up at some point.” Sean stated.

She tried to lighten the mood. “I thought you were trying for a Peter Pan ending.”

“Peter Pan doesn’t get the girl.” Sean said with such an intensity in his eyes that the world melted away for Liz.

Her heart thumped in her chest and her breath caught in her throat. Was there some hidden meaning in his words? Was she Wendy to his Peter Pan? Had he missed her? Did he ever think about them and the way it had been before he had left?

“Liz?” Adrian’s voice yanked her back into the real world.

Damn Tequila!’ Liz thought, once again blaming Tequila for the feelings that she didn’t want to explain and her crazy train of thoughts .

“Oh, hey. Are you ready to…” Her sentence trailed off and looked nervously between Adrian and Sean. She would have preferred never to have to introduce them but here they were. “This is Amy Deluca, Maria’s mom and Maria’s cousin, Sean. This is my…um…this is…uh…”

“Adrian, her boyfriend.” Adrian filled in, throwing a hurt look at Liz.

“I knew that.” Liz mumbled under her breath, feeling guilty and like the worst girlfriend in the world. Again.

“Its lovely to meet you at last.” Amy said with a smile. “Liz has told me so much about you.”

“I somehow doubt that,” Adrian said, throwing another hurt look in Liz’s direction.

Liz grabbed one of his hands and squeezed it. The guilt was gnawing at her. How could she have forgotten his name? Eye color was one thing but his name? Serena would surely put her the bad girlfriend league board for this.

“Oh, you are all she can ever talk about.” Amy lied sweetly. “Oh is that the time? Sean and I better let you two go.”

“It was nice meeting you,” Adrian said politely.

“Likewise.” Amy replied. “You kids have fun now.”

Sean mumbled a quick goodbye before hopping after his aunt, leaving Liz‘s world spinning.

At least this time, he managed to say good bye.

***

“What did you say to Sean?” Liz said as soon as Maria answered the phone.

“Excuse me?”

“What did you say to Sean about me and Max?”

Maria‘s voice was thick with confusion. “Nothing. I’ve barely even spoken to Sean.”

“How about three years ago? How about when Max came back from California and Sean left Roswell? What did you say then?” Liz asked, desperate to discover the truth. If she could find out what Maria had said then maybe she could understand why Sean had left.

There was a pause on the other end of the phone before Maria finally said. “I can’t remember. It was three years ago and I talk a lot.”

“Maria, this is really important. Try and remember.” Liz begged.

“Ugh, okay. Let me think.” Maria ordered.

There was another long pause and Liz could hear Maria pacing and Michael hollering at the television. Everything was normal over at the Deluca/Guerin residence while Liz was the verge of breakdown. Maria could have been holding the missing piece of the puzzle that explained what had happened three years ago.

“I might have mentioned something that Serena had said to me.” Maria admitted.

“And that was?”

“She told me that Max was still in love with you and that she thought he was going to try and get you back. She might have also mentioned something about a plan she had to help the two of you get back together.” Maria said.

Liz gasped, “Sean thought that I was going to get back together with Max?”

“No. I don’t know. Maybe. Sean is crazy. I don’t know what he was thinking. But you and Max always had that whole soul mate thing going on so maybe he thought…”

“That’s insane.” Liz closed her eyes tightly. Things were starting to fall into place and it was making her head hurt. Had Sean really left because he thought that her and Max were getting back together? Or had there been some other reason?

“I’m sorry, Liz.”

“Its okay.” Liz said, “I’ll talk to you later, okay?”

“Okay, bye.”

***

“So, let’s recap. You were dating Max but then you pretended to sleep with Kyle so that Max would fall out of love with you. Max left for California and met Serena while back in Roswell, you were heartbroken. Rewind to two years, you start seeing this Sean guy and then he just leaves without so much as a goodbye and we are back to you being heartbroken. Blah, blah, blah, you meet Adrian, blah, blah, blah, Sean is back in town and here we are.”

“That’s the short story.” Liz nodded.

“You see, this is why you should become a lesbian.” Judith Chase said shaking her head with pity causing her red curls to fall wildly across her face. “Its so much better. All men clearly suck.”

“What about Joshua?”

“Joshua is different. He’s two and therefore not a man.”

Judith lived in the apartment across from Liz with her 2 year old son, Joshua and her long-term girlfriend, Teresa. Liz had quickly become friends with the couple as soon as she had moved in to her apartment and cherished the time she spent with family.

“It won’t be long before he’s breaking hearts left, right and center.” Liz pointed out.

“I know.” Judith replied smugly. “He takes after me.”

“What am I gonna do?” Liz groaned and rested her head against the table. Her head was buzzing with her thoughts of Adrian, Sean and traces of her hangover still lingered.

“Remember that Sean is going to be leaving in six weeks and that Adrian is steady, loyal and in love with you.” Judith stated. “There’s only one thing you can do.”

“What?” Liz asked. “Tell me what I should do.”

Judith shrugged. “Only you can decide that.”

Part 4
The Fourth Part

A day later and Liz knew what she had to.

She had briefly listened to her heart but then she had remembered all the trouble it had gotten her into the last time she had allowed it to rule her actions. This time she chose to listen to her head. It had never let her down before apart from that one time in English class but Max’s shiny hair was really to blame for that.

On the table in front of her were two pieces of paper. One was neatly titled; Adrian - Pros and Cons. The other was titled Sean - Pros and Cons. She stared at the lists calmly. Sean’s pros outweighed Adrian’s, there was no doubt about that. But Sean’s cons had managed to work their way onto the back of the page and overshadowed all of the good things she had written.

But what it really came down to was the fact that Liz wasn’t prepared to risk her heart again.

“Hello Elizabeth Anne Parker,” Serena greeted as she glided into the room with the confidence of a highly paid supermodel.

“Serena Giselle Macalister, how the hell did you get into my apartment?” Liz asked with an raised eyebrow. “And how did you manage to tear yourself away from Max?”

“Judith gave me the spare key.” Serena stated and showed Liz the key dangling from her finger as proof. “Max is fixing some plumbing or something and apparently I was distracting him so Judith kicked me out of her apartment and here I am in yours.”

“Wow, I feel so special.” Liz said dryly.

“So, whatcha up to Lizzie?” Serena asked, reaching for the sheets of paper. “What are these?”

“Nothing.” Liz said as she attempted to snatch the pieces of paper back.

“Really?” Serena grinned and held the lists out of Liz’s reach. She was still grinning as she studied the lists. “Hmm, your color choices are interesting. Did you know that red is the color of love, lust and passion?”

Sean’s list was written in bold red letters.

“It's also the color of danger.” Liz pointed out. “And it's not interesting at all. It so happens that those are the only colored pens I have.”

“Sure, I believe you.” Serena said with a knowing grin. She continued to scan the list, her smile widening as her eyes moved down the page. “Okay, two questions. What is lane walking? And what exactly did this Sean dude do with his tongue? It must be pretty damn amazing to make it to number 3.”

“What tongue thing?” Max asked, announcing his presence to the women. He grinned at Liz as he wrapped his arms around his girlfriend’s waist and rested his chin on her shoulder. “You aren’t given away all of our secrets are you, Macalister?”

“What secrets?” Serena snorted. “But no, I’m just trying to score some kinky details from our darling Liz and shouldn’t you be fixing something?”

“Yeah, he should be.” Judith said, stalking into the room with a glare. “I turn my back for two seconds and you run over here to coddle Serena. Back to work, Evans before I get a spanner and ram it where the sun doesn’t shine.”

“No rest for the wicked.” Max said, smirking at Judith’s idle threat. He pushed a quick kiss to Serena’s shoulder before disappearing into Judith’s apartment.

“Never trust a man to finish anything.” Judith muttered with a tut before she stalked after Max.

“How do you do it?” Liz asked after Max and Judith had left.

“Do what?” Serena asked.

“Make your relationship with Max seem so effortless. You guys have the perfect relationship.”

“Looks can be deceiving.” Serena shrugged. “I love Max but its hard. The distance between us, the whole alien thing; it makes everything so…hard.”

“Explain.”

She shrugged again. “There’s not much to explain. I live in California and Max lives here. It breaks my heart every time I have to say good bye to him.” Serena slumped down onto Liz’s couch with a sigh and covered her eyes with her hand. “It gets harder every time. I hate being away from him and go half crazy with missing him.”

“I never realized.” Liz murmured.

Serena smiled weakly at Liz. “Enough about my love life. Have you decided what you are going to do about yours?”

“There’s only one thing I can do.” Liz nodded. “I’ve got to try and make things work with Adrian…”

“But what about that tongue thing?”

“Before yesterday, I hadn’t seen Sean for three years.” Liz stated. “A lot can happen in three years. He’s probably got a girlfriend.”

“But you don’t know that for sure.” Serena pointed out as she handed Liz the phone. “Maybe you should call him and play catch up.” She rose to her feet and smiled at Liz. “I’ll give you some privacy.”

***

Liz’s hands gave a small tremble as she dialed the number to Maria’s old house. It was stupid really. She had called the number a million times before. It was no big deal.

“Speak if you’re ugly.” Sean said, answering the phone on the second ring.

Liz hung up.

“So stupid,” Liz cursed herself and glared at the phone. “You are so evil. You are so….ringing. Oh my God, why are you ringing? Stop ringing.”

Hey, this is Liz. I’m not here right now but leave a message after the beep and I’ll get right back to you.”

“I know that you’re there, Parker. Pick up.” Sean’s voice came from the answer machine.

She stared at the phone in horror. There was no way she was going to be picking up that phone, not in a million years. Calling Sean had been a mistake and now all she had to do was ignore him and he would go away.

“Pick up, Liz.” Sean ordered and Liz reluctantly answered the phone, knowing that there was no point in trying to ignore him. She had nearly forgotten that Delucas were stubborn creatures.

“Hi,” Liz answered quietly, her cheeks burning with mortification. Was she ever going to not embarrass herself in front of Sean?

“Prank phone calls are so high school.” Sean scowled but she could hear the undeniable amusement in his voice and she hated that she amused him so.

“I wasn’t prank calling you.” Liz denied, silently cursing Serena for giving her the idea to call Sean. Serena’s ideas and plans always seemed to get her into trouble and she never seemed to learn her lesson. “I was just calling to say 'hey' and now I’ve done that I’m going to hang up.”

“Woah, don’t hang up.” Sean said quickly. “How have you been?”

“Since yesterday? Still great.” Liz quipped before adding silently to herself ‘And more than a little confused.’

“Good. Do you wanna go for lunch?” Sean asked abruptly.

“Now?” Liz asked, taken back by his question.

“Yes now. I’m starving and I hate talking on the phone.” Sean said. “You can pick me up at the house and than we can head to The Crashdown and catch up like old friends should.”

“When were we ever friends, Sean?” Liz asked only half joking.

“Hmm,” Sean mused. “About two minutes before you kissed me. Remember, I offered you a lift to school because that’s what friends do and you pounced on me.”

Liz gasped, remembering the day as if it was yesterday instead of over three years ago. “I did not pounce on you. You kissed me.”

Sean laughed and Liz realized just how much she had missed the sound of it. If she had been willing to be honest, she would have admitted that there were a lot of things about Sean she had missed.

“Pick me up in half an hour, Parker.” Sean ordered before hanging up.

For the second time that day, Liz found herself staring at the phone in horror.

***

“How much longer do I have?” Liz asked, franticly searching through her wardrobe.

“4 minutes.” Judith stated, glancing at her watch. “No make that 3 minutes.”

“Crap, crap, crap.” Liz cursed, tossing items of clothing from her wardrobe onto her bed. Nothing seemed to be right.

“Wear that little red top. Its sexy.” Serena said from her place on the floor.

“I don’t want to look sexy. I want to look…” Liz paused, she wasn’t sure how she wanted to look but she did know that she only had 3 minutes to decide. She raked her fingers through her hair and glanced at her friends. “Gimme me that top, Serena.”

The taller brunette raised an eyebrow in disbelief. “You want to wear the top that I’m actually wearing?”

“Uh huh, give it to me.” Liz demanded, tossing a shirt at her. There was no denying that Serena had confidence and bravery by the bucket full and Liz childishly hoped that by wearing the camisole some of that confidence would rub off on her. “I’ll love you forever and a day.”

Serena shrugged before pulling the pale pink Baby-Doll Camisole over her head and giving it to Liz. “It will go perfectly with those faded low rise jeans you have.”

“You think?” Liz asked, chewing her bottom lip.

“2 minutes.” Judith interjected.

“Crap, crap, crap.” Liz cursed, shedding her clothes and quickly changing. “This is such a bad idea.”

“Its lunch.” Judith stated. “There is nothing ever bad about lunch.”

“But what about Adrian?”

“What about him?” Judith asked as Serena pushed the now fully dressed Liz out of the bedroom. “Its just lunch.”

“You’re right, its just lunch.” Liz nodded, accepting the car keys that Serena shoved into her hand. She nodded again as she exited the apartment.

Serena and Judith shared a look.

“How long do you think it will take her to realize that she isn’t wearing any shoes?”

Part 5

Face to Face

Time had stopped. The world had melted away and the only two people left were Liz Parker and Sean Deluca.

He had always had this effect on her. He could make her forgot everything, all her problems, all her joys, nothing else existed outside of the two of them. He made her laugh, he made her laugh so hard that cherry coke came out of her nose. He made her forget that she should be mad at him for leaving. He made her forget that he had even left.

“I think I’m going to get a Will Smith burger, some fries, Saturn rings and another Alien blast,” Sean murmured as he studied the menu with a mock worthy serious look on his face. “What are you going to have?”

“I don’t know.” Liz replied.

She hadn’t even looked at the menu that laid open in her hands, she had been too focused on noting all the changes that had happened to him like the tiny white scar he had just above his left eyebrow. She burned to know the story behind it.

“That’s probably because you’re reading the menu upside-down.” He said with a wicked grin.

Liz’s eyes flew down to the menu in horror.

“Made you look.” Sean teased laughingly.

“You’re a jerk, you know that right?” Liz rolled her eyes but couldn’t prevent the smile that graced her lips.

“I know but I’m so handsome, I’ve got to do something to put off the ladies.” He smirked with conceited male pride.

Liz rolled her eyes again, “I would have thought your arrogance would have been enough to discourage women.”

“I’m not arrogant. I’m misunderstood.”

“Ha!"

The conversation quickly changed course and flowed like fine red wine. They talked about everything that didn’t matter. Making certain to avoid the only topic that meant anything. They talked about films they had seen and bands that were set to take the music industry by force. They discussed the changes that happened to the people that they cared about. They even talked about old Mrs Peterson and her cats.

But eventually, the small talk ran out.

“So, what’s it like being a firefighter?” Liz asked, her chin rested on her hand. “I have to admit that I was surprised when your Aunt Amy told me that you had joined up to be a firefighter. You’ve gone from the bad boy who got sent to juvie for setting fire to the science department at school to the firefighting hero who rescues kittens from trees and little boys from burning houses. You’re all grown up, Deluca. I like it.”

“I did it for the uniform. The chicks dig a man in a uniform.” He joked, his blue eyes twinkling with mischievous as his lips curled into his trademark grin. “What about you, Parker? Are you where you wanted to be?”

“I’ve got a reasonable job and apartment plus an adorable cat called Pippin.” Liz murmured. “Oh and then there was Adrian. He’s a really nice guy.”

“What happened to you, Liz? You use to have all these dreams and goals. Roswell was only meant to be a pit stop for you.” Sean said. “Reasonable and nice shouldn’t be words you use to describe your life. You deserve better than that, a lot better.”

“I’m happy,” Liz said quietly. She stared down at her hands, examining her finger nails with a new found interest.

He reached across the table and tilted her chin up so that she was staring into his eyes. His touch seared her to the bone as his words echoed in her head.

“Are you? Truly happy? ‘Cause from here it looks like you’re just going through the motions.”

She swallowed as his words hit her like a ton of bricks. Was it true? Was she going through the motions of life without living it.

The stubborn streak that she always denied having reared its ugly head. How dare he waltz back into her life after three years and provoke feelings that she didn’t want to acknowledge or name.

She would not admit that Sean was right about her, she couldn’t.

“You left three years ago and gave up any right you had to tell me how I’m feeling, okay?” She said in a harsh whisper.

“I’m sorry.”

“Is that meant to make it all better?” She asked although she wasn‘t sure if he was sorry that he had left or sorry that he had said what he had. “You left, Sean. You left without even saying good bye.”

“I’m back now.”

“But for how long?” She asked, her heart wrenched in her chest as she met his eyes and for a painful moment she thought she was about to cry in front of him, right there and then. “You can’t just come back here and mess up my life.”

“Liz…”

“No! I can’t do this.” She cried, getting to her feet. “I’m sorry. I have to go.”

She moved blindly towards the front of The Crashdown, desperate to get away from Sean and the feelings that were flooding her body. All she could think about was getting back to her apartment and crawling into her safe haven of a bed. She didn’t want to think or feel. All she wanted to do was to slip into a deep sleep.

“Eliza?” Natasha’s voice sliced through Liz’s thoughts of sleep. “What a surprise.”

“I was leaving.” Liz mumbled as she tried to move past the blonde. She could hear the telltale sound of Sean’s crutches against the ground and needed to leave before he managed to catch up with her.

“What’s the hurry?” Natasha asked with evil intent as she looked over Liz‘s shoulder at Sean. “Adrian will be here in a second. He’s parking the car. Oh look, here he comes now.”

“Liz!” Adrian and Sean said simultaneously.

Liz looked between the two men who were staring at each other warily. The Crashdown seemed to be getting smaller and smaller by the second and all Liz wanted to do was bolt but instead she smiled at Adrian.

“Hey Adrian,” She said, reaching up to brush her lips against his cool cheek.

“I didn’t know that you were going to be here.”

“It was a last minute thing.” Liz said. She smiled again hoping that he wouldn’t be able to see the pain she felt in her heart. “You remember Sean from yesterday, right?”

“Sure,” Adrian nodded, briefly looking at Sean before focusing back onto her.

“You two should join us for a drink.” Natasha said.

Liz shook her head quickly, “I…I mean we were leaving.”

“We insist, don‘t we Adrian?” Natasha stated and gripped Liz’s arm painfully tight as she dragged her towards another booth before Liz could voice another protest.

***

Liz had always imagined that hell would involve a lot of heat and unimaginable evil things. She now knew that the heat was mild and that the unimaginable evil was Natasha Anderson. Liz was in hell, nothing could be possibly worse than spending time with your boyfriend, your boyfriend’s evil best friend and the guy who had broken your heart a few years earlier.

“Tell me, where has Liz been keeping you for all these years?” Natasha cooed to Sean while giving him a interesting view of her cleavage. “Its nearly unforgivable that you would keep such a handsome man hidden from me.”

Liz gritted her teeth, unable to believe what she was seeing or hearing. For the last twenty minutes Natasha had been shamelessly flirting with a reluctant Sean and Liz swore if she had to witness one more knee caress, she was going to beat Natasha to death with one of Sean’s crutches or strangle the life out of her with her bare hands.

“I’m sensing some tension here,” Natasha said, a smile on her lips that didn't quite reach her icy blue eyes. “Is there something I’ve missed? Don’t tell me that you two use to be an item.”

“We were just friends.” Liz lied but she was at a lost how to describe the relationship that they had shared before he had left. They had been more than friends, more than lovers, more than just a couple. At least, that was what she had always believed.

“La, I hope I haven’t put my foot in it.” Natasha purred.

And in that moment, Liz hated Natasha more then any other being on the planet. She hated the way the personal shopper smiled and laughed, she hated the way she spoke and flicked her perfect blonde hair daintily over her shoulder but most of all, she hated the way she kept touching Sean.

“Are you okay, honey?” Adrian asked, his eyes filled with loving concern.

“Uh huh. Why? Do I not look okay? Because I am. I’m perfectly okay. More than okay. I’m happy, beyond happy. I’m…”

“On drugs?” Sean offered with a raised eyebrow.

Liz glared at him in annoyance before focusing all of her attention onto Adrian. She would show Sean. She would show him that she had moved on with her life and was living it to the fullest possible extent.

She smiled breezily at Adrian and caressed his cheek. “Why would there be anything wrong? I’m here with you and that’s what matters.”

“You were gritting your teeth.” Adrian pointed out. “You’ve been acting really strangely for the last couple of days.”

“The last couple of days?” Natasha echoed. “When did you say you arrived back in Roswell again, Sean?”

“That is irrelevant.” Liz replied before Sean could. “And I would rather not be discussing this right now, Adrian.”

“And why would that be, Eliza?” Natasha asked, tapping her long finger nails against her cheek thoughtfully. “Surely you don’t have something to hide.”

She was saved by the ringing of her cell phone and Liz gave silent thanks to whatever higher being had rescued her from answering Natasha‘s question.

“I better get this. It might be important.” Liz mumbled, relieved to see Judith’s name flash up on her screen. This was her chance to escape, her only chance and she couldn't...wouldn't waste it.

“Hello.”

“How’s it going? Did you make with the disgusting hetero loving yet?”

“Oh no, that’s awful. What are you going to do?” Liz asked, pretending that Judith had said something terrible that either involved a car accident or a unreliable babysitter. She just hoped that the other three couldn’t hear what Judith was actually saying. “I can do it if you like.”

“That bad, huh?”

“Of course I’ll help you out. Its no problem at all.”

“You want me to grab some ice cream and tissues?”

“That would be great. I’ll see you in ten.”

Liz snapped her cell closed and smiled apologetically at Adrian. “That was Judith. Her babysitter cancelled at the last minute so I offered to help out.”

“How very Christian of you.” Sean interjected.

Liz chose to ignore him and continued to talk to Adrian.

“I better get going now. I don’t want to keep Judith waiting. I’ll call you tomorrow, okay?” She pressed a kiss to his forehead. “And Natasha, I’ll call you tomorrow as well. Sean, I’ll…” She paused when she finally noticed that Sean was getting up from the booth. “What are you doing?”

“You’re my ride, Parker.” He grinned in that annoying way of his. “You weren’t planning on leaving me stranded were you?”

‘Yes!’ Liz screamed silently.

“Of course not,” Liz mumbled. “I would never dream of it.”

“What do you dream about, Parker?” Sean asked huskily when they were out of earshot of Adrian and Natasha.

She didn’t reply.

Instead she quickened her pace and started to list all the elements on the periodic table.

Part 6
Once Burnt

“We should talk.” Sean stated, breaking the silence that had filled the car only seconds before.

“I don’t want to.” Liz said, not caring how childish she sounded. She didn’t want to talk, she didn’t want to reopen the wound and pour salt onto it. It already hurt enough without digging up the past.

“I left.” Sean said, ignoring Liz’s words. “And I’m sorry for that. I thought that I was doing the right thing. I thought that you and Evans were going to be getting back together and I didn’t want to stand in your way. I wanted you to be happy.”

“And you leaving without even a goodbye was meant to make me happy?” Liz asked, aghast at the very idea of it. “You should have talked to me, Sean. You should have told me what was going on or you could have at least broken up with me properly. You could have left a letter or a message on my answering machine. I had to hear from Maria that you had gone and that you weren’t coming back.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Stop saying that. Stop saying you’re sorry! It's not going to fix anything.” Liz shouted as she hit the brakes. “It's just a stupid word that doesn’t mean anything so stop saying it.”

The street was empty and nobody noticed the bluish silver Honda that was parked in the middle of the road and contained one angry brunette and a regretful blond.

“What do you want me to say?” Sean demanded, running a hand through his blond hair in frustration. “I couldn’t bear to watch you and Evans live happily ever after so I left you before you could leave me.”

“Max and I were never going to get back together. He was in love with Serena and I was in love with…” Her words trailed off. She couldn’t bring herself to finish the sentence so instead she carried on in a even voice. “You should have fought for us instead of giving up but you were too much of a coward.”

“A coward?” Sean repeated, his blue eyes flashing with anger. “Yeah maybe I am a coward but so are you.”

“I’m not the one who left town.” Liz said in disbelief. She couldn’t believe that he was accusing her of being a coward. She wasn’t the one that had run away. “I’m the one that stayed.”

“Exactly. You stayed in this godforsaken town and now you’re just drifting through life. Roswell can’t give you what you need. Adrian can‘t give you what you need or deserve.”

“Ha! And I suppose you know what‘s missing.” Liz snorted with bitter amusement. He had only been back a couple of days and he was already messing with her life. “You don’t know me anymore and you certainly don‘t know what I need.”

“Do you remember that time at the bowling alley?” Sean asked, staring at her intensely. “I told you that you were suffocating here, that we both were suffocating. You weren’t getting what you needed from Max and now you’re not getting what you need from Adrian.”

“Adrian loves me. He’s steady, loyal and good-looking. He’s what every girl dreams her boyfriend would be like.” Liz said with as much conviction as she could muster. “He sends me flowers and always remembers to call. He tells me what he is thinking or planning to do. He doesn‘t disappear without a word and then reappear expecting everything to be just fine and dandy.”

“If you’re relationship is great, why didn’t you tell him about you and me? Why did you sit there and lie straight to his face? Why can‘t you get past what happened between us? It was three years go. Surely that’s enough time to get over someone who you were just friends with. Right?” Sean asked, his blue eyes narrowed as he threw her earlier friend comment back at her. “Unless, you’re not over me. Unless, maybe there’s a part of you that still…”

“Don’t even finish that sentence.” Liz ordered.

He leaned forward, invading her personal space and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. “It's still there isn’t it?”

“No, it isn’t.” Liz said, smacking his hands away from her. She couldn’t think when he was that close to her. His scent was distracting her and provoking memories to bubble to the surface. Her glance drifted down to his lips. She remembered the way his lips felt against hers. She remembered the way his kisses made her feel dizzy with desire.

“You’re a terrible liar, Liz Parker.” His voice was low, husky and undeniably seductive.

“It isn‘t there anymore and it hasn‘t been there for a long time.” Liz stated, turning her head away from his. She focused on the dashboard and tried to calm her thumping heart. She only turned back to Sean when she heard him open the door. “What are you doing?”

“Walking home.”

“But what about your leg?” Liz asked, unable to hide her concern.

“I’ll survive.”

“But Sean…”

“Liz, you have to be the smartest and the dumbest person I’ve ever met.” Sean said, shaking his head as he closed the door.

She watched him hobble to the sidewalk in amazement. How dare he? How could he call her the dumbest person he had ever met? The only dumb thing she had ever done was agree to have lunch with him. She should have ran. She shouldn’t have picked up the phone. She shouldn’t have listened to Serena or Judith. God, he had some nerve. Of course, she was over him. She had moved on with her life.

She had everything that she could possibly need in Roswell. She was happy, wasn’t she?

***

“I hate Sean Deluca,” Liz declared for the fifth time that hour as she dug her spoon into her tub of vanilla ice cream that had been drenched in chocolate sauce. “I hope that his leg miraculously gets better so that he can get back out of town. He‘s such a…”

“Jackass? Dumbass? Gorgeous, heart-stopping man who makes you dizzy with lust with a single smile?” Judith offered with a wicked grin. “it’s the last one isn’t it?”

“Actually, I think the first two covered it.” Liz said, glaring even though there was a tiny bit of truth to Judith’s last suggestion but she wasn’t going to admit that to the smiling Judith who was a little too team Deluca for her liking. “I thought you were supposed to help making me feel better.”

“I know but helping you wallow in self-pity isn’t going to make you feel better but it will make me depressed and I’m all about project snap Liz Parker out of denial.” Judith said, unfazed by Liz’s glaring or muttering.

“I’m not in denial.”

Judith raised an eyebrow, “So you’re willing to admit that you still have feelings for Sean?”

“No. Because it's not true. I do not have feelings for Sean. Not anymore.”

“God, you straight girls are so dumb!”

“You think that because you’re a lesbian, it makes you smarter then me.”

Judith tutted, “Of course it makes me smarter. It shows that I had the common sense to like girls while you were a dumbass and picked the wrong team. And now you won‘t even admit that you‘re still in love with Sean.”

Liz nearly choked on the mouthful of ice cream she had just shoved into her mouth. “I’m not in love with him.”

“Then why did you make that list if you didn’t have feelings for the guy? Why did you phone him and then agree to meet him for lunch? Why are you eating your version of extreme comfort food?” Judith asked. She reached over and patted her on the hand. “Lizzie, you wouldn’t be this worked up if you didn’t still have feelings for him, you know that right? And its okay.”

Liz felt her eyes begin to burn with unshed tears. How could Judith say that it was okay? Didn’t she understand that Sean had destroyed her world when he had left?

“No, it isn’t. I don’t want to have feelings for him.” Liz cried. “I don’t want him back in my life because in a few weeks he is going to leave again and I don’t think I could bear him leaving me again.”

“Liz,” Judith sighed, pulling her into a tight embrace. “Shhh, don’t cry."

“I’m so angry at him for leaving, I want to scream at him and hit him until he hurts as much as I do. And then I want him to hold me and make everything better. God, I’m so pathetic. I shouldn‘t be pining over Sean when I have Adrian. Adrian doesn‘t deserve to be treated like this. I should be happy with Adrian. He‘s an amazing boyfriend.”

“What are you going to do?” Judith asked.

“I don’t know. I can’t break up with Adrian, not yet. I’m supposed to be helping Natasha organize a surprise birthday party for him. He doesn’t deserve to be dumped before his birthday. Hell, he doesn’t deserve any of this.”

“What about Sean?”

“I can’t go there again.” Liz stated, shaking her head. “I’m just going to avoid him until he leaves town again.”

Judith raised an eyebrow, “And that’s you’re plan? To break up with Adrian after his birthday and avoid Sean until he leaves town again?”

Liz nodded, “That’s my plan.”

“Good luck with that.”

Liz sighed, “Thanks. I think I’m going to need it.”

Author's notes: So, I'm back at long last with a new part. A couple of things to get out of the way first. The quote Max uses was said by Publilius Syrus, which means that I do not own it. And...um....I guess that would be it really. I hope that you enjoy this part.

Hugs,

Ruby

ETA: I also stole a line from Season three even though season three didn't actually happen in this story. The line just fit so let's pretend that Michael stole the peach Snapple in season two.

Part 7
Love’s Bitch

“You’re just going to avoid him?” Serena said in disbelief after Liz had updated her on what had happened on her lunch with Sean.

Liz nodded, “That’s the plan.”

“That’s not a plan. It's not an idea. It's something you think about in your mind, and then you come up with something...better.” Max said, shaking his head in what appeared to be disappointment.

Liz scowled at him, “Don’t you use that line on me. I’m not Michael and this isn’t about a couple of boxes of stolen peach Snapple. This about me and my heart and my reluctance to allow Sean Deluca to stomp all over it again.”

“The wounds of love can only be healed by the one who made them.” Max quoted wisely causing Liz and Serena to stare at him in horror.

“Did you just quote some dead guy? Because quoting some dead guy isn‘t going to help my problem.” Liz growled even though she wished she could believe the words of a wise dead guy. “And why would you want me to get back together with Sean? You hate him. I hate him. Everybody hates him, okay? You are being a bad friend, Maxwell Evans. A bad, bad friend.”

“Baby, maybe you should go and make us all some coffees or something.” Serena said, patting her boyfriend on the arm. “It will give Liz and I a chance to talk about girl stuff.”

Max looked at Liz warily before nodding, “I think I’ll go pick some up from Starbucks.”

“Uh huh, take your time.” Serena said with a smile as she tilted her face up a quick kiss. “And you could get me some candy for the flight home.”

Max nodded and once he had grabbed his wallet and car keys, he quickly made his escape.

“I’m sorry,” Liz groaned, feeling even more miserable then she had before she had arrived at Max’s apartment. “I only came over to say goodbye before you left for California. I didn’t want to scare Max away and ruin the last couple of hours you have together. I’m such a bad, selfish friend. I’m sorry.”

“Its okay, Parker. Obviously, you need some sense smacked into you and I‘m just the gal to do it.” Serena said lightly with a smile. “I have to admit that I’m a little surprised that Judith didn’t shake you into you coming around to her line of thinking.”

“She tried,” She admitted with a sigh. It was driving her half crazy that all her friends seemed to think that she should give Sean a second chance. Would it be too much to ask for at least one of them to lie to her? To pretend that they agreed with her stupid plan of avoidance. “She made me realize that I have to break up with Adrian. I can’t keep stringing him along. Not when I have feelings for someone else.”

“So, you’re acknowledging that you do have feelings for this Sean dude?”

“Uh huh. And I hate it. I hate love. It’s like some sort of horrible disease. Its like cancer. It spreads through every cell of your body and makes you vulnerable. Its takes over your life. And it hurts. It really, really hurts. Its like you’re on fire and you’re burning all over. And nobody is willing to throw a bucket of water on you or even pee on you to put out the fire. So you’re completely helpless and basically love’s bitch. And you feel like this all the time because of one stupid person who made you laugh at some stupid joke or taught you to bowl.” Liz paused her crazy ramblings when she realized that Serena was staring at her with openmouthed horror.

“Why would someone pee on you?” Serena asked, clearly missing the whole point of Liz’s short speech. “I thought that that only cured jellyfish stings. Or is it like some sort of sick sex kink?”

Liz rolled her eyes but couldn’t prevent the small smile that graced her lips, “No, it isn’t some sort of sick sex kink.”

“Oh my God, is that…no…it can’t be. Is that a smile on your face, Parker?” Serena said with a grin. “Did you turn the frown upside down?”

“Shut up,” Liz said with another roll of her eyes as she tossed a cushion at Serena’s face. “I’m still feeling miserable. And my day is going to get so much worse in about an hour.”

“Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Liz?” Serena said, doing her best impression of Arnold Jackson from Different Strokes.

“I’ve got to meet Natasha at The Crashdown.” Liz said with a groan of pure despair. “We arranging a surprise party for Adrian’s birthday. Its part of my penance for being a terrible girlfriend. Spending time with Natasha that is, not throwing the surprise party. I could throw the party in my sleep.”

“Why does Natasha hate you so much?” Serena asked curiously.

“I don’t know. It’s a mystery but it probably has something to do with her being a complete and utter bitch.”

“Or maybe she’s jealous of you.” Serena suggested. “Maybe she has feelings for Adrian.”

Liz considered the idea for a moment before shaking her head, “Or she’s probably just a bitch. I mean, when I first met you, you were secretly in love with Max and you weren’t nasty to me at all. In fact, you were overly nice and seriously pushy.”

“Yeah but I was going to be leaving town. If you and Max had gotten back together, I wouldn’t have had to see you being all happy and in love. I would have licked my wounds back home. But if Natasha is in love with Adrian then it must be killing her to see you two together all the time. It would break my heart to see Max with anyone else.”

Max’s keys could be heard rattling in the door, quickly followed by the door opening and loudly shutting again.

“Is it safe to come back in?” Max’s voice called from the kitchen. “I come bearing chocolaty gifts.”

“Whatcha think, Liz?” Serena asked with a mischievous smile. “Shall we allow Max back in?”

“I think that now would be the perfect time for me to leave.” Liz announced, getting up from the couch. “You two should spend your last couple of hours together.”

“Are you sure?” Serena asked, looking both concerned and relieved at the same time.

“Uh huh, positive.” Liz said, embracing the taller brunette tightly. She was going to miss Serena while she was back in California. “I’ll give you a call or send you a email when there’s more gossip about my tragic love life. Have a safe trip.”

“Look after Max for me. Don’t let him pout around here all day. Drag him out and force him to have fun.” Serena ordered in a whisper. “And look after yourself. Stop running for a moment and listen to what everyone has been telling you. We all love you, Parker. We want you to be happy.”

“Are you leaving, Liz?” Max asked, stealing Liz’s chance to reply to Serena’s words.

“Yep.” Liz nodded. “I’ve gotta start planning Adrian’s surprise party. There’s no rest for the wicked, you know.”

***

“You’re late.” Natasha hissed when Liz walked into The Crashdown. “I said to meet me here at 2.30 pm not 2.33 pm.”

“Oooh, I was three whole minutes late.” Liz said, rolling her eyes. “How will I get to sleep tonight?”

“If you’ll not going to take this seriously then you can just leave now.” Natasha stated in another hiss. “I would be perfectly happy to organize this whole party by myself.”

“Then why did you ask for my help?”

Natasha sniffed in annoyance, “Because Adrian wants us to be friends and it will make him happy to know that we arranged the party together.”

“Fine,” Liz said, slumping into the booth. “Let’s get started.”

Natasha nodded and produced a thick folder from nowhere. Dumping it on the table with a thump, she opened it before looking back up at Liz, “I’ve made a list of things that we need to do. I’ve also researched venues, themes, caterers, invitations, cake designs and flavors, decorations etc. I’ve also made a guest list of all of Adrian’s friends and family.”

“What would you like me to do?” Liz asked, starting to think that Serena might have been right about Natasha’s feelings for Adrian. It was quite obvious that Natasha hated her but for Adrian, Natasha was willing to pretend otherwise. And now, there was all the effort she was putting into Adrian’s party.

“I was thinking that you could lick the envelopes after I’ve written the invitations out. And if you manage to do that right then maybe I’ll let you mail them.”

“Natasha…” Liz began, desperately wanting to say something bitchy but something inside of her hesitated. Shaking her head, she asked, “Do you ever feel like you’re love’s bitch?”

Natasha stared at her for a moment before nodding, “All the freakin’ time.”

“Me too.”

Part 8

I Was Made For Kissing You

Two weeks, four days, five hours and twenty-three minutes. That is how long Liz had successfully avoided seeing, talking or kissing Sean Deluca. Of course, no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t avoid thinking about him or listening to the countless messages that he had left on her answer machine. She also couldn’t avoid the pitying knowing looks that she received from those nearest and dearest to her.

“I hate couples,” She muttered darkly, glaring at a pair of love sick teenagers that had just entered The Crashdown in a flurry of giggles and kisses. She rested her chin in the palm of her hand and leaned against the counter. “Public displays of affection should be made illegal. Its not fair on those of us who haven’t found the love of our lives.”

Max, who had been staring unseeingly at his glass of chocolate milkshake, looked up and nodded in agreement. “Its like they’re mocking us.”

“This is where I point out that you both have a significant other.” Maria said with a roll of her eyes. “And I would also like to take this chance to threaten bodily harm if you two don’t stop pouting and whining about the unfairness of Aphrodite.”

“But Serena is in California.” Max whined unhappily before he added with a glare. “I do not pout.”

“And I’m breaking up with Adrian next week,” Liz added in her defence. “And let’s not forget that your cousin stomped on my heart three years ago and then came back into town to mess up my life some more, so I’m entitled to at least three hours of whining and pouting a day.”

“Well, just think, your life could be a lot worse.” Maria stated much to Liz’s annoyance.

“How could it be worse? I’m about to break up with a perfectly nice guy because I’m stupidly in love with a not so perfect guy, who is going to be leaving town in about two weeks. And…” Liz paused, taking a deep breath before she added the cherry on top of her horrible life. “And I’m having to wear antennas and this stupid uniform again.”

Liz glared down at the offending piece of clothing. She had thought that when she had given up her waitress job, that she had been finally done with the evil antennas and aqua blue uniform. But thanks to her parents need for a second honeymoon and unreliable staff, she was back.

“Talking about Sean…”

“I’m not talking about Sean,” Liz interjected.

Ignoring Liz’s comment, Maria continued. “You cannot keep avoiding him.”

“Why not?” Liz demanded.

“Mainly because he just walked in.”

“Oh my God,” Liz shrieked, ducking behind the counter as fast as humanly possible, leaving Maria and Max to stare after her in openmouthed amazement.

Crouched beneath the counter, Liz felt like a character from a horror movie. Like one of the characters, she knew that it was only a matter of time before her hiding place was found. She could hear the small tapping sounds that Sean’s crutches made as they touched the ground and with each passing second, the sound was getting louder and nearer to the counter.

“Parker?” Sean grinned, peering over the counter. “You lose something?”

“Apart from my sanity?” Liz muttered, annoyed at herself for once again embarrassing herself in front of Sean.

“I think that we should go and sit in one of the booths,” Maria said, grabbing her alien blast and Max.

Getting to her feet, Liz glared at Max and Maria’s retreating backs before glaring at Sean unable to believe that Max and Maria had deserted her. She grabbed a cloth and began to wipe the countertop, ignoring the fact that Sean was still staring at her.

“Anyone would think that you were avoiding me.”

“Gee, what gave me away?” Liz said sarcastically with a roll of her eyes as she threw the cloth back under the counter. She needed to get away from him as fast as possible. “Now if you will excuse me, I have…”

“Not so fast, Parker.” Sean said, blocking her escape route. For someone with a broken leg, he still moved pretty damn fast. “I wanna talk to you.”

“Well, I don’t want to talk to you.” Liz stated stubbornly.

“Just hear what I have to say and then I promise that I will leave you alone. You won’t have to ever see me again.” He stated before slowly grinning, “Unless of course you want to see me again.”

Liz tutted in disdain, “I wouldn’t hold my breath. Say what you’ve gotta say, Sean. I’ve got customers to serve, tables to clear, I’m really busy.”

“Can we do this in the backroom?”

Liz sighed in annoyance, “Fine, just make it quick.”

As she led the way to the backroom, Liz mentally berated herself. She shouldn’t have agreed to talking to him completely and utterly alone. She didn’t trust herself not to accidentally tell him about the feelings she still had for him. He had always known how to push her buttons.

The door closed with a swishing sound and she turned and stared at him expectedly, waiting for him to say or do something. But he didn’t say a word, instead, he stared intensely back at her, making the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end with awareness.

His eyes drifted down to her lips and Liz instantly recognized the look on his face. She knew that he wanted to kiss her as much as she wanted to be kissed by him.

She didn’t move when he closed the distance between them and pulled her closer to him. She didn’t protest when his hands gently cupped her face or when his lips hesitantly brushed lightly over hers. She felt him pull back slightly as if he was waiting for her to push him away or at the very least shout at him. And then when she didn’t, he crushed his lips to hers, kissing her with a desperate fervor that shook her to the core.

Her hands automatically clung to the front of his shirt as her knees weakened and she melted into him. His faint, familiar masculine scent intoxicated her. Her whole being quickly became completely focused on Sean as he filled all of her senses.

With every thrust of his tongue, she felt a piece of her self-control disappear and become replaced with a burning need that tingled through every cell of her body. An almost animalist desire had begun to stir within her as their tongues danced and mated together.

How had she been able to go without his kisses for three years? How had she been able to survive without him? How had she ever thought that anyone else would do? No one had ever been able to make her feel the way Sean did, not Max and certainly not Adrian.

“Liz, I told you that it was still there.” He murmured against her mouth, unwittingly bringing her back to her senses and to the reality of where they were.

Her eyes snapped opened and she pulled herself out of his embrace. His words cooling her passion and igniting her anger. Without thinking, she swung at him, her right fist connecting firmly with his face. She felt hurt beyond belief that he had kissed her just the prove his point and to expose her feelings.

“You…” She panted as she attempted to regain her self-control. “You jerk!”

“Damn it, Liz!” Sean growled, covering his injured eye. “What was that for?”

“That was for leaving me three years ago and then coming back here as if nothing has changed.” Liz hissed, her eyes flashing with three years worth of hurt, pain and anger. She swung for him again, this time hitting him in the chest. “That was for the six months I spent crying for you.”

“Liz…” He reached for her but Liz smacked his hand away.

“And that was for kissing me even though you know that I have a boyfriend.”

“You kissed me back.” Sean said pointedly.

“I don’t have time for this.” Liz said, shaking her head. “I have to go.”

“You can’t keep running away from this,”

Ignoring him, Liz pushed open the doors and stalked over to where Max and Maria were sat. Tossing the antennas that she had been wearing at Maria, she said, “I need you to cover for me for the rest of the afternoon, okay?”

“What happened? Where are you going?” Her best friend asked with concern.

Glancing back towards the backroom she met Sean’s uncertain gaze before turning back to her friends. “I can’t talk about this right now. I have to go and talk to Adrian. I‘ve gotta sort things out between us for once and for all.”

***

When Liz let herself into Adrian’s apartment, two things struck her as being odd. The first being the romantic music that blared from the stereo and the second was the trail of clothes that Liz guessed led to the bedroom. She stood in the doorway, staring down at the clothes in slight disbelief. There was no doubt in her mind who the clothes belonged to but she still followed the trail, feeling a strange sense of curiosity.

Soundlessly, she made her way to the bedroom. Apart of her couldn’t believe what was happening. She had thought that Adrian was so honest and loyal. She couldn’t believe that he had been cheating on her all the while. The other part of her was relieved that she no longer had to feel the enormous pressure of guilt gnawing at her.

Pushing open the door, she was greeted with the sight of Adrian and Natasha in a lovers’ embrace.

“Liz?” Adrian said, sounding confused for a moment before realization hit him. “Fuck! Liz!”

“Isn’t this the part where you say it isn’t what it looks like?” Liz asked with a raised eyebrow.

“No.” Natasha said as she wrapped a sheet around her to hide her nakedness. “This is the part where he kicks your ass to the curb and we live happily ever after.”

“Natasha!”

“What? It’s the truth. Isn‘t it? Adrian, you said that you love me.” Natasha said with uncertainty in her clear blue eyes. “You can’t take it back. I won’t let you.”

“I didn’t want you to find out like this,” Adrian said to Liz but she didn’t miss the reassuring touch that he had given to Natasha. “Can we…can we talk? Please?”

Liz nodded. “I’ll go wait in the living room while you put some clothes on.”

Within two minutes, a slightly rumpled and ashamed Adrian joined her.

“I’m sorry that you found out this way.” Were the first words out of Adrian’s mouth.

“I know.”

“But I’m not sorry that it happened.”

“I know that too.”

“We haven’t been having an affair. Today was the first time it had happened. I don’t know how it happened but I’m glad that it did. I love Natasha. I didn’t realize it until she told me that she was leaving Roswell for good.”

“Sean kissed me today at The Crashdown.” Liz confessed. “And I kissed him back. I love him but I’ve kinda known it all along. I came here today to break up with you.”

Adrian nodded and the pair regarded each other in silent. The only sound in the apartment was the sound of Natasha moving around in the bedroom obviously not wanting her presence to be forgotten.

“I should be going.” Liz said. “I hope that everything works out with you and Natasha.”

Adrian studied her for a moment before he spoke, “I hope that you find what you’ll looking for Liz.”

“Me too,” Liz sighed. “Me too, Adrian.”

Author's notes: Big thank you to jbangelo, elfangel01, orphyfets, LovinGuerin2Much and Calinia for your wonderful feedback. I'm really glad that you are all enjoying the story. :)

Now, onto the new part.

Part 9
Oh Hell

Sunday morning arrived without hesitation and marked the first day of Liz’s new single life. As she laid in bed, watching Scrubs reruns and absentmindedly stroking Pippin‘s soft fur, she considered how much her life had changed since Sean had hopped back into the picture. Three weeks ago she had been content with her life but now just being content was no longer enough. She needed more.

“Hey sunshine, get your lazy A-S-S out of bed.” Judith ordered as she stomped uninvited into Liz’s bedroom with her two year old son, Joshua supported by her left arm and a plate of chocolate cookies in her right hand.

“I’m wallowing.” Liz muttered, pulling the covers over her and Pippin.

“I can see that.” Judith tutted in annoyance as she placed the cookies on the bedside table and tugged the covers away from Liz. “And that is why I brought the big guns with me today. My oh so wonderful girlfriend made you double chocolate chip cookies and if they fail to make you feel better then just look at how adorable Joshua looks. He‘s a cowboy today, aren‘t you sweetie?”

“Diz,” Joshua exclaimed, stretching his arms out towards Liz. “Hug Diz, hug Diz.”

Liz bite back a smile as she hugged Joshua and glared halfheartedly at Judith over the top of his head. “Don’t you have anything better to do today, Judith?”

Judith shook her head, “Nope. Teresa had to go into work and be super doctor so I’m here being super friend and its my mission today to help sort out your love life problems.”

“I don’t have any love life problems,” Liz muttered with a smile for Joshua as he gave her a goofy baby grin.

Judith snorted in disbelief, “M’kay. So what are we calling the Adrian and Sean problem?”

“Well, since I broke up with Adrian yesterday I’m calling him not my problem.”

Judith gasped, “You guys broke up?”

“Uh huh.” Liz nodded, watching Joshua in amusement as he crawled towards the unaware Pippin. “I caught him in bed with Natasha.”

“No!”

“Yes.”

“Seriously?”

“Seriously.”

“Seriously what?” Max asked as he entered the room much to Liz’s horror and Judith’s amusement.

“How do you people keep getting in?” Liz asked in exasperation as Max sat on the end of the bed. “Does nobody knock anymore?”

Max shrugged, “I guess not. So, what are we talking about?”

Liz sighed, “Adrian and I broke up.”

“She caught him in bed with Natasha.” Judith added with unconcealed glee. It was no secret that the redhead had a passion for gossip and loved all the sordid details.

Max raised an eyebrow, “Seriously?”

“Seriously.” Judith nodded before turning to Liz expectantly. “So, what happened? Gimme some details, all the details in fact. Did he cry? Did you cry? Did you smack Natasha?”

“No, no, and I wish but not because she slept with Adrian, just because she’s been mean to me for so long. And there really isn’t much to tell. I went over the his apartment to break up with him and found him in bed with Natasha. He admitted that he was in love with Natasha, I admitted that I was in love with Sean and then I wished him luck with Natasha and he wished me luck with everything. And that‘s it. End of story.”

Judith’s mouth dropped in disbelief. “You wished each other luck? Are you sure that‘s how it happened? I mean, you‘re not suffering from shock are you? Maybe I should call Teresa and get her to come and check you over.”

“I am not suffering from shock, okay? And I’m sorry if my break up wasn’t more interesting.”

“An easy break up is a good break up if you ask me.” Max piped up from his place on the bed. “And now you don’t have to feel guilty if you hook up with Sean.”

“I’m not hooking up with Sean.” Liz said quickly before Judith had a chance to jump onto the Team Sean bandwagon.

“Joshua, don’t pull Pippin’s tail.” Judith ordered in her mommy voice as she grabbed Joshua away from Pippin and handed him to a bemused Max. She focused on Liz, studying her hard for a moment before she asked, “Why?”

“Why what? Why won’t I be jumping back into Sean’s arms any time soon?” Liz asked. Judith nodded in reply and Liz bite her lip as she tried to think of the right words to explain why she couldn’t go running back to Sean and then decided to take the easy way out. “He’s leaving for one. His life is in Montana and mine is here in Roswell. And there are lots of other reasons that I would rather not go into right now.”

Judith rolled her eyes while Max pulled a face although Liz wasn’t sure if the face was for her or Joshua’s benefit.

“You see Liz…”

“If this is where you helpfully say this is why I should be a lesbian I will kick you’re A-S-S.” Liz cut Judith off, knowing full well exactly what her friend was about to say.

Judith snorted in amusement, “Oh please, little Miss. Suburbia. You couldn’t fight your way out of a paper bag.”

“She gave Sean a black eye,” Max offered helpfully in Liz‘s defence.

“Really?” Judith asked, a eyebrow raised in disbelief. “Wow, I never knew you had it in you, Liz. What did he do?”

“He kissed me.” Liz mumbled as she flushed with embarrassment.

“M’kay, you are officially a weirdo.” Judith stated with disbelief painting her words. “The guy you love kisses you so you punch him in the eye? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.”

Liz opened her mouth to give Judith a well deserved verbal ass kicking but was interrupted by a loud and irregular knocking. She glared pointedly at Max and Judith as she climbed out of bed.

“See! Some people know how to knock on doors.” She muttered as she left the room, leaving her friends to roll their eyes and grin at each other.

As she paddled her way to her front door, she caught a glance at her reflection and groaned in dismay. Her light blue monkey printed pjs were crumpled and creased while her long dark hair had been pulled back into a messy bun and her face was makeup less.

“Amy?” Liz said, shocked to see her best friend’s mother on her doorstep on a Sunday.

A hundred questions run through Liz’s head while she waited for Amy to speak. Why was Amy at her apartment? Had Sean told her that she had hit him? Was Amy there to yell at her? Or maybe even give her a black eye to match Sean’s?

“Lizzie! Thank God, you’re here. Is Maria here?” Amy asked with a smile while Liz sighed with relief. “I’ve been around to her apartment but she wasn’t there and she’s isn’t answering her cell phone.” She looked over Liz’s shoulder and smiled at Max, Judith and Joshua as they joined them. “Hey guys.”

“Um, no. She isn’t here. Her and Michael have gone to see Laurie for the weekend.”

“Oh damn. I completely forgot that they were going this weekend.”

“Is there anything we could help with?” Max asked.

“Hmm, maybe. There’s a convention that I need to attend for work but I can’t leave Sean alone. I wouldn’t be able to stop worrying. I mean, every time I take my eyes off of him for two seconds he ends up in more trouble.” Amy said, shaking her head with motherly concern. “Last night I came home to find him with a black eye.”

Judith grinned knowingly at Liz, “A black eye?”

“How did he manage to do that?” Max asked, biting back a smile as Liz shot him a look of disgust.

“He said that he tripped in the bathroom. I don’t know how he tripped but I really don’t think that I could leave him alone. I was hoping that he would be able to stay at Maria’s for a couple of days.”

“He can stay here.” Max offered to Liz’s horror.

“That’s a great idea, Max.” Judith purred.

“Really? Would that be okay with you, Liz?” Amy asked with a look of hopefulness that made Liz falter.

“Okay.” Liz mumbled before she could stop herself. Damn the Delucas and their ability to make her do things against her will.

“Excellent. I’ll go and fetch Sean from the car.” Amy said before breezing down the hallway.

Liz turned around to glare at her friends. If looks could kill then Max and Judith would be deader then dead. Judith and Max took one step backwards as Liz stepped menacingly towards them, her fists clenched by her side.

“Did you two not hear one single word that I said earlier?” She asked through gritted teeth.

“We are just trying to help.”

“How is offering to let Sean stay here alone with me for God knows how long in my tiny apartment helping? Oh my God! I‘m going to have to sleep in the same apartment as Sean Deluca.” Liz paled at the thought.

Judith reached out and patted her on the arm. “This could end up being great. It could give you the closure you need or lead to other great things. Look on the bright side.”

“Look on the bright side? Look on the bright side?” Liz repeated, her voice slowly rising with each word. “Look on the freakin’… Hold on where do you two think you are going? You are not leaving me alone. Not now.”

“Joshua has a play date.” Judith said, clearly lying as she edged her way to the only exit. “We are going to the zoo.”

“Zoo. Zoo. Zoo.” Joshua chanted, clapping his hands together. “Zoo.”

“And Serena is waiting for my call.” Max shrugged helplessly.

“But…” Liz began but it was already too late. Her so called friends had disappeared out of the apartment just as Amy and a brooding Sean had arrived.

Liz stood feebly in her living room, suddenly very aware of her messy appearance. She shifted from foot to foot and stared at Amy, praying that she would change her mind. There was no way that Liz could spend time alone with Sean when he was looking so dark and dangerous dressed all in black. She couldn’t even feel any satisfaction about giving him a black eye since it just made him look way too sexy.

“I cannot thank you enough, Liz. As soon as I get back I will be making you a special pie.” Amy smiled brightly before she kissed Sean’s cheek. “Behave Sean.”

Sean scowled at his aunt‘s retreating back and then turned his scowl on Liz.

“Well, this is going to be exciting.” Liz muttered sarcastically before storming into her bedroom and slamming the door loudly.

Thursday's Child has Far To Go

Slamming her bedroom door had done little to sooth Liz’s irritation. Yanking her pj top over her head, she threw it forcefully towards the laundry basket. All her plans to wallow in her pjs, watch Scrubs reruns and scoff unlimited amounts of vanilla ice cream had been ruined by Sean’s unexpected arrival. Now she was going to have to spend the whole day trying not to pounce on Sean, strip him naked and cover him in vanilla ice cream. She was going have to resist all temptation.

Not that that should be too hard judging by the scowl on Sean’s face. He was probably sulking because she had socked him in the eye and in the processed bruised his fragile male ego. The poor baby. Well, he could scowl at her all he wanted because there was no way that she was going to apologize to him. Nope, no way in hell of that ever happening.

She stalked over to her wardrobe, threw open the door and studied her clothes with annoyance. She absolutely had nothing suitable to wear. Where was Serena when you needed her?

“Liz…” Sean began, hobbling into the room without bothering to knock. His eyes were focused on the floor as he maneuvered his way through the littered battleground that was Liz’s bedroom.

She swung around to face him, her teeth gritted in annoyance. “Why doesn’t anyone knock anymore?”

He looked up then and seemed to freeze, his blue eyes widening slightly with surprise.

Liz frowned when he refused to make eye contact with her but her frown quickly transformed into a look that mirrored that of a deer caught in the headlights when she realized exactly why Sean was refusing to make eye contact with her. She was wearing her light blue monkey printed pj bottoms and a peach colored cotton bra. And being a typical male, Sean’s eyes were glued to her chest area. The perv! She hastily snatched her robe from its place on her bed and wrapped it around her body, all the while glaring at Sean.

“What do you want, Sean?” She asked frostily.

An array of emotions flicked in Sean’s eyes. Shock, lust, longing, cool disdain.

“I just wanted to let you know that I’m going.”

“Going where?”

“Home.”

“Home?” Liz repeated in a squeak. She coughed in embarrassment. “To Montana?”

A knot of panic formed in Liz’s stomach at the thought of Sean disappearing back to Montana. She had known right from the beginning that it was only a matter of time before he went back to Montana. She had even longed for his leg to get better so that she could go back to living in her bubble of denial. She just hadn’t realized how much it was going to hurt.

“No. To my Aunt Amy’s. I don’t need you to baby sit me.” He stated with a scowl. “And I doubt that your boyfriend would be happy if he knew that I was staying here.”

“We broke up.” The words escaped her lips before she could stop them.

“Oh.” Was all that Sean said. He hesitated before he spoke again. “Was it because of…”

“I caught him in bed with another woman.” She confessed before he had a chance to finish his sentence. She didn’t want him mentioning the kiss. She didn’t want to talk about the kiss or even think about the kiss. Not now. Later. Much later.

“Son of a bitch.” He swore, his blue eyes darkening with anger. He hopped towards her before freeing his left arm from his crutch. He awkwardly half patted half caressed her arm in an attempt to comfort her. “Are you okay? Do you…do you need to talk about it?”

He sounded so pained when he asked her if she needed to talk that Liz didn‘t know what to say so she shook her head.

“Do you want me to beat him up?”

She snorted in amusement, “No, its okay. If I wanted him beaten I would do it myself. I know kung fu.”

Sean nodded, a small smile on his lips, “If you need a friend then I‘m here.”

“Friends? Is that what we are now?”

“Yeah, I guess. Its better then being sworn enemies, right?”

Liz wasn’t so sure.

The hours flew by and daylight quickly dissolved into night. There was no more talk of Sean leaving. Instead the pair had settled into a comfortable but still somewhat awkward friendship. There were moments when it was as if Sean had never left Roswell. And then there were moments when it was so painfully obviously that they couldn’t even make eye contact.

It was during one of the more painfully awkward silence that Liz decided that she better head to bed. She glanced over at Sean, knowing that she at least should offer him the bed considering he did have a broken leg.

She yawned, “I need sleep. You can have the bed. I’ll sleep here on the couch.”

Sean nodded as he struggled to get to his feet, “Okay.”

“Okay?” Liz repeated with a frown. “You know this is where you say that you would rather sleep on the couch.”

Sean snorted in a mixture of amusement and disbelief. “I’m injured. Have you not seen my broken leg?”

“Yeah but…”

“No buts. You’re taking the couch, Parker.” He grinned wickedly. “Unless…”

“Unless what?” Liz asked.

He shrugged, “We could share the bed. You take the left side and I’ll take the right.”

“Eh…”

“You scared, Parker? I promise that I won’t ravish you as long as you can keep your hands to yourself.”

Liz scowled at him, “I don’t think that will be a problem. You‘re not irresistible.”

Lies, lies, lies. Could he tell that she was lying? He had always claimed that he could tell when she was lying. She quickly got her feet, a need for escape taking over her whole body.

“And for your information, I sleep on the right. You can take the left!” She muttered before grabbing a clean pair of pjs from her bedroom and heading to the bathroom. She slid the lock across and silently wished that it was possible to buy a lock for your heart.

Liz stared at her reflection as she brushed her teeth and silently gave herself a prep talk. She could hear Sean shuffling around in her bedroom while she tried to convince herself that sharing a bed with him wasn’t a big deal. After all, it wasn’t as if it was the first time that they had slept in a bed together although it would probably be one of the first times that they had ever just slept in a bed together.

She blushed as she remember exactly what they did use to do when sharing a bed. She remembered exactly what Sean looked like hot, sweaty, naked and truly irresistible. She remembered exactly the way he could make her feel if only she would surrender to him.

Shaking her head, she pushed away the bad, bad thoughts and unlocked the bathroom door. All she had to do was get into bed and keep to her side while making sure that Sean did the same.

She pushed open her bedroom door, unprepared for the sight that greeted her. Sean with his bare back to her, giving her a lovely view of his broad tanned shoulders. Her mouth went dry. Her fingers itched to caress every each inch of his back and then the rest of his body.

He turned around then and caught her staring.

“I’m going to check my emails while you…while you finish getting ready for bed.” Liz mumbled, flushed with embarrassment as she grabbed her laptop from her bedside table. She escaped to the kitchen and switched on her laptop. Her fingers tapped nervously against the surface of her kitchen table as she tried to banish all thoughts of Sean from her mind.

It was mission impossible.

Signing on to her AIM, she was relieved to see Serena’s username and sent her an instant message.

Thursdays_child: Oh my God, Sean is getting naked in my bedroom.
Thursdays_child: What should I do?
California_rose: Plug in your webcam! I wanna see this Sean guy!
Thursdays_child: Seriously, what should I do?
California_rose: I’m being serious
California_rose: Why are you online?
California_rose: Shouldn’t you be entertaining the naked man in your room?
Thursdays_child: Its not like that.
Thursdays_child: We're just friends.
California_rose: Special friends?
Thursdays_child: NO!
Thursdays_child: Get your mind out of the gutter for a change.
Thursdays_child: I’m leaving before you start to corrupt me.
California_rose: I’m sure Sean will corrupt you enough tonight.
Thursdays_child: I hate you so much.
California_rose: Hush your mouth.
California_rose: You know that you love me.
Thursdays_child: I know no such thing.
Thursdays_child: I’m only friends with you because you scare me
Thursdays_child: A lot.
California_rose: Are you stalling?
California_rose: Go to bed, Parker.
California_rose: And phone me in the morning with all the details.
Thursdays_child: Serena…
California_rose: Good night, Liz.
California_rose: xxx

She glared at her laptop screen before admitting defeat and shutting it off. She had work the next day. She needed sleep. She couldn’t spend all night avoiding Sean.

She crept back into the room and slid underneath the blankets, careful not to disturb Sean. Her heart pounded so fiercely that she was positive that Sean would be able to hear it if he was still awake. She lay as still as a corpse on the bed, not even daring to breathe.

She could feel Sean’s warmth radiating off him in waves and she wanted to yield to the urge to move closer. But instead, she stared up into the darkness.

“Night, Parker.” His voice was as soft as a caress.

Her heart skipped a beat before she sighed tiredly. “Good night, Sean.”
