Adayla's words make me want to grind my teeth together. Nicholas is Tess' nephew? Is this why he managed to survive even after she killed all the other Skins when they came to Roswell? Was she part skin, too, or does Nicholas only get it from his father's side?

This is the person who raised my daughter? Not only was she in league with Khivar, but she was allied with the Skins and Nicholas, too. This is incredible -- and not in a good way.

"If he doesn't know we're here, he soon will," I say to Liz. "I'm sure word of my arrival is spreading through the palace already..." I was worried about opposition on the council, but there are bigger threats out there. Khivar's kin is likely to seek revenge and the Skins are here, too.

What is their relationship to Xadalyn and to Antar now? Nicholas and Xada don't get along but that doesn't mean there isn't something going on that I should know about...

I turn to Adayla. "Thank you for offering to sit with Sarah. I don't want to cause you any hardship."

Xan and my parents are trying to get me to open up and share what I saw in my visions. But, it’s not that simple, back home on Earth it would be no doubt I would tell them about my visions, but now I Antar it’s different. I just can't share that part of my life anymore; I don't know I think the planet has some effect on me.

My dad tells me there are guards that will be posted around the floor and including by our doors. And I feel really relief. Suddenly Adayla offers to stay with me, and my dad some how agree with the idea, but I certainly don't. I'm not a little girl anymore that needs someone to scary away the monster in her closet. “No, there is no need for that. I will be fine on my own." I said, shaking my head. I'm not too happy with idea, if someone should look afraid to me, it should be my mother or my father. But then again, I'm not to happy about the idea watching me and worrying about me because I just had a few old vision.

Suddenly, we all hear someone yelling in the hallway. My mom is trying to protect us. And for a minute, I thought acting kind of weird. My dad open the door and I walk behind him to get a better look, this young kid that acts like he is 40 was yelling at Xada, and unfortunately, so was Xada.

I hear my mother, father, and Adayla talk about Nicolas...Who is Nicolas, and why does he have my parents so jumpy for? After all he just some little kid, right?

OOC - Liz used with permission --

"All right, princess," I tell Sarah as she rejects the idea of Adayla staying with her. My mother was only trying to help, I know, but she is a stranger to Sarah. I understand that. "Thanks for the offer, mother," I add.

Then, I hear another noise from the hall. Somebody cursing in Antarian, but more softly, angry and menancing. A female voice floats over his, stern and un-amused. "Forget it, Mendal. You're out-of-luck."

I step to the doorway and see a man and a woman leading two others who are bound at the wrists. "What's this?" I ask, not understanding why prisoners are coming through this area of the palace.

"Your magesty!" the woman says. Immediately, I suspect she and her partner are part of Larak's posted guards but as I said, word of my rank is probably spreading through the palace so it might not be so... "We're hear on Lord Larak's orders and we found these interlopers where they didn't belong."

I resist the urge to step back at the hateful glare the two give to me and my family. I flex my fingers, ready to put up a sheild, although I'm sure that these guards have already disarmed the prisoners.

"Thank you," I say, sincerely. "Let me know what you discover when you question them, please."

She nods and pushes the prisoners towards the stair. "Rest safely, Your Magesty. We'll be keeping watch."

"Those are them!" Liz says quietly at my side. "The ones Sarah saw," she explains.

"Are you sure?" I ask, keeping my voice low. She nods. Now I'm three times as grateful to Larak's guards and to these two in particular. "Sarah? Did you recognise them, too?"

"I'm glad that one threat is down, but I'm not happy about Nicholas being here," I say, mostly to myself. I'm sure I could have him expelled from the building, but I don't know if that's wise. It could cause even bigger problems.

"Sarah? Did you recognize them, too?" my father ask me, and I really don't know how to answer that. Yes, I recognized them. Yes, they were the people in my vision. What am I suppose to do now? How I'm I suppose to sleep when the people in my vision actually came.

"Yes dad, they are people in my vision." I said. I want to go home; I want to actually feel safe for once in my life. I want be normal, but I know that will never happened.

Alexander

Mom and Dad took over again the role of trying to get my sister to talk. I felt let down that Sarah just refused to listen, to open up to even me. Okay, so I wasn't always the perfect older brother, but weren't times of trouble supposed to bring everyone closer together? Contrary to that theory, Sarah seemed to want to drift further away.

Everything was interrupted when shouts suddenly became audible. They were coming from the hallway. I recognised Xadalyn's voice, but not the other. Everyone moved forward to have a look, and I too quickly stole a glance. All I caught, however, was the back of some guy storming off, and then I heard Dad whisper a name: Nicholas. Okay, a very Earthly kind of name- I wondered why.

Both my parents' worry seemed to amplify after seeing this guy, who - from the looks of it, or the looks of his back profile, at least - seemed to be a teenager. Was he a threat too?

Adayla jumped in to explain, “He is probably only here for a little while, him and Xada fight more often than not and he doesn’t stay long. Lord Nicolas is Xadalyn’s cousin. His mother and Tess were sisters. He usually just keeps to himself.”

Was it just me, or was there a note of distaste in her words? Another reason to assume that he was a bad guy.

"I'm sure word of my arrival is spreading through the palace already..." Dad said with a frown. This could only get worse, couldn't it?

Sarah openly turned down Adayla's offer to stay with her through the night, and Dad was ready to let it be. Well, now, not that there was much night left anymore, right?

My attention was perked again when more voices could be heard from the corridors. A woman who said she was acting on Larak's orders approached Dad, addressing him as royalty, using the term 'Your Majesty'. I cocked my brow at that, finding it fairly amusing that my father was being addressed as the king.

But my amusement was lost when I saw that the owners of the voices were having with them two men, apparently prisoners, wrists bound and everything. There was a distinct look of hatred burning in their eyes. But hatred for whom? Xadalyn? Larak? Dad?

That was more or less answered when I heard Mom whisper to Dad, "Those are them! The ones Sarah saw."

Dad in turn asked Sarah to confirm this. "I'm glad that one threat is down, but I'm not happy about Nicholas being here."

Right. Then again, did this mean that 'those guys' were out of the way, or was their master plan - uh, whatever it was - still in its early stages?

"Yes dad, they are people in my vision," Sarah confirmed, looking quite shaken. I frowned at this and moved towards her, giving her a quick hug of reassurance- I figured she needed that. Whatever her flashes had shown her, they hadn't been good- so her first impression of these guys was definitely . . . really, did I need to say it?

It all seemed so strange, as if our roles had been reversed. Suddenly, Sarah had become the quiet, insecure one, and I- well, I wasn't exactly all confident now and whatever, but I was beginning to feel the need to step up, that I could somehow contribute to all of this.

"Stay strong, okay?" I whispered in my sister's ear, so that only she could hear me. Then I turned my attention back to Mom and Dad. "Nicholas- who exactly is this Nicholas person?" I asked. "Apart from being a relative. Because you really don't sound to happy to see him."

"They won't hurt you or any of us, now," I promise Sarah, seeing her shaken expression. Seeing the villians from her vision captured should have made her relaxed, not more frightened. Alexander has stepped forward and is trying to comfort her. I hope he has more success than Liz and I have had so far...

"Nicholas- who exactly is this Nicholas person?" Xan asks, looking up at Liz and me. "Apart from being a relative. Because you really don't sound to happy to see him."

A relative? It's not until Alexander says it that I realize that Nicholas would be related to him, too, because Tess was his mother, also. I'm once again glad that I was able to raise him on Earth, away from all this.

"I'm not," I confirm, shaking my head and frowning. I push the door tightly shut, hoping we won't have any more disturbances for a while. "He's a Skin. That's another kind of alien. They can't survive in Earth's atmosphere so they have special organic suits that they wear to live there. That shaped that looked like a fourteen-year-old boy was just a device. The man inside lived on Earth for more than fifty years, commanding a group of Skins. He was one of Khivar's top men and he was trying to find the Granolith and the royal four. Before that, here on Antar, he was the one who killed your uncle Michael. He's not a nice person and his powers are very strong."

I pause then, but I'm not about to explain how he captured us and mind-raped me ... how he'd nearly destroyed Liz's parents and mine -- my Earth parents, anyway -- and all our human friends. "Tess destroyed the Skins, but Nicholas escaped. I'd hoped I wouldn't see him again. On Earth, you can destroy a Skin by breaking the seal on their back, or damaging the Skin with heat. I'm guessing that won't be a problem here."

In fact, I don't know why Nicholas is still wearing his skin at all, but I'll count it as lucky. Without it, I probably would have had to recognise him by his voice.

~Xadalyn~

I walk back into my room and shut the door. I think this has been the longest day of my life, it seems never ending. I lay back on my bed and close my eyes in an effort to block everything else. I am almost relaxed when I hear the closet door open and the bed shift as someone lies down beside me. I had almost completely forgotten about Daimeon.

I feel his fingertips brush against my busted lip. “That went well I see.” He says. But instead of letting me explain what happened I feel his lips on my own, his hands roaming my body. Maybe things will look better in the morning.

*Adayla*

The guards lead the prisoners away and I feel relieved. Maybe everyone will be able to rest a little more soundly tonight. Xan asks about Nicolas and I am a little confused by Max’s answer but more things fall into place. Nicolas did work for Khivar for several years, he helped him in destroying my family.

I still think of him as an enemy even if Tess exonerated him saying that he was doing it as a spy. But if he was nothing but a spy then why kill Rath and help in having the others killed. It does nothing but fuel my suspicions that Tess, even in her first life, was a traitor. Even if nothing had ever been linked to her.

“If Sarah doesn’t need me I will retire to my ship.” I say, I never stay in the palace but always in my ship when I come. As I walk past Max I gently squeeze his arm even if I want to hug and kiss him I know he doesn’t remember me yet. After all, even Sarah mentioned her grandparents back on Earth. I am thankful that he was raised be loving people, but its hard not to be hurt by the fact he doesn’t remember me, perhaps the longer he’s here the more he’ll remember.

“I’ll see you in the morning, my son. We have a lot to catch up on.”

OOC: hope this works, sorry if it's not up to the usual standard

~Liz~

My eyes widen in amazement as Adayla informs us that Tess and Nicolas, and therefore consequently Xada, and in truth Xan, are related... That monster was related to Tess... Well, I guess that could explain a lot of things...

Adayla says that he keeps to himself, but I can't say that I'm convinced he's no danger, and from the look on Max's face, it would appear he isn't either...

"I'm sure word of my arrival is spreading through the palace already..."

I nod silently. Of course it will...it'll be big news I imagine, especially since Tess had made out he was dead... It's only a matter of time until Nicolas finds out I'm sure, and even if Adayla doesn't seem that concerned, I don't like the thought of him being so close at the moment...or ever for that matter...

As Max thanks his mother for the offer to stay with Sarah, I nod, about to agree, but our daughter takes it upon herself to decline the offer, insisting that she doens't need to be watched, and Max nods, letting the subject drop after thanking Adayla just as there comes another noise from the hall, voices which sounds as though they are approaching.

Max steps forward asking what's going on as a group come into view - two guards, and two prisoners - or at least I presume they are from the bindings around their wrists...

"Your Magesty!" It's more than a little strange to hear my husband adressed that way, and I almost recoil as one of the captives looks up, not from the hateful look he shoots Max, but from his appearance... An image flashes in front of me as the guards explain what's happening, and as they begin to lead them away, I look up at Max, certain now. "Those are them...the ones Sarah saw..." I tell him in a hushed voice, not wanting to alarm Xan or Adayla unneccessarily...

After asking whether I'm sure, Max turns to Sarah now, seeking confirmation which she gives. Instead of looking relieved as I would have expected though, she instead looks more shaken than anything and as Xan moves to try and comfort her, I only wish there was more I could do...

Max tries to assure her that they won't hurt us now, but I know that look in my daughter's eyes only well and I'm worried that convincing her of that will be easier said than done...

As Max now mentions Nicolas, he does it in a low voice, but I don't miss it and nod slightly, acknowleging my agreement. I don't suppose I will be truely happy until I know he's far away... Of course that could have something to do with the fact that the last time I saw him, he was trying to kill us... Apparently the comment wasn't made quietly enough to escape Xan's sharp hearing either, for a moment later he's asking who he is...

I listen to Max as he tries to explain, remembering the last time I saw him only too well... We could have died that day, he could have killed us...

Adayla excuses herself to go to her ship, wishing us a good night, and I smile as I watch her gently touch Max's hand, the emotion held in that small gesture and few words being so great. It's hard I know, for both of them, but I'm glad to see they seem to get on... "Good night Adayla and thank you..." I tell her softly, thanking her not only for looking after Sarah, but also for her apparent acceptance of me and Max...something that had always worried me when, years ago, I thought about the possibility, however slight, of having to come here...

I feel strangely disappointed that Adayla has chosen not to stay in the palace tonight. Apparently it hasn't been her habit since Xadalyn and Tess returned here ... probably since the royal four were killed. Perhaps there is no need for her to stay with Sarah, but it seems wrong for her to feel unwelcomed here. Afterall, it had been her home, too, when my father was alive.

"I would welcome you to stay within these walls, if you chose," I tell her, although I doubt I will change her mind. Perhaps if I were to officially take up duties as King and took charge instead of living as a guest, perhaps then she would feel welcomed again. But Xadalyn still sleeps in the Royal chamber and I know there is little good will between the two of them.

“I’ll see you in the morning, my son. We have a lot to catch up on.” She says.

"In the morning, then," I agree, accepting that. "I will be looking forward to it."

"Good night Adayla and thank you..." Liz adds. I can see she's nervous, trying so hard to fit the parts we've been given, to be accepted. I feel the same way, and I at least have some memories of this place, this world. She doesn't. I can only imagine how much harder this is for her. We never thought she'd ever have to actually do this...

I move closer to Liz, taking her hand and squeezing it, before releasing her so I can put my arm around he shoulders instead.

I have a feeling the morning will be very busy indeed. I only hope I'm allowed a few hours more to be 'Max Evans'. I won't say I'm not ready to be King -- part of me has always been ready -- but I'm still not looking forward to it...

Skins. The Granolith. The Royal Four. Khivar.

Organic suits.

From the way Dad was talking, this Nicholas person was a threat. Okay, so that was pretty obvious- Nicholas was the strong and powerful not-nice-at-all Skin who'd murdered Uncle Michael in his past life. Duh, he was a threat. Then again, what about the relationship between him and Xadalyn? If it was a good, friendly one, what could we make of that? Then would he have become nice, or Xadalyn bad? Or if they were on bad terms, wouldn't all of us have to worry about keeping our heads on until we woke up tomorrow?

". . . On Earth, you can destroy a Skin by breaking the seal on their back, or damaging the Skin with heat. I'm guessing that won't be a problem here."

"If he's the traitor you say he is, then that just adds one more on the list," I said, touching my temples that seemed to be throbbing all of a sudden. I was finding it a little hard to hide my frustration.

I frowned to myself. Mom and Dad seemed to recognise Nicholas well enough, so that had to mean he was wearing that whatchamacallit organic suit thing. I made it a point to remember the Skin-ridding method just in case . . .

Adayla announced that she was going to 'retire to her ship'. Her ship? Was that what she called her room, or was she really going to sleep in her spaceship? Yeah, well, my mind felt so messy that I seemed to be having trouble interpretting things. It made me feel stupid.

“I’ll see you in the morning, my son. We have a lot to catch up on.”

I cocked my head slightly to the side, still finding it really weird to hear this woman call Dad her son, when all these years it had only been Grandma.

I wasn't sure what I felt about her yet, because she still gave off a strange air of . . . . I don't know. It just was grandmotherly.

When she'd left, I sighed. "You know what, I have a feeling I'd better hit the hay too," I told my parents. "Maybe I'll be able to think more clearly in the morning. Right now, everything's just -"

I shook my head, hardly able to describe what everything seemed like to me at that moment. Weird? No, it was beyond weird and crazy and messy. It was a whole bunch of things slapped together that was supposed to actually make sense.
