"Moon doggie is staring at you again. And very closely, I might say." Maria observed. Liz stopped midway, a spoon of applesauce mixed with sugar halfway to her mouth. Glaring at Maria, Liz refused to turn around and see. She had enough problems, as it was, that was not including Max Evans. "I, so, do not need this right now, Maria." "It's time babe, now or never." "Never would be just fine with me." Liz muttered, clearly in a bad mood, not caring in the least how she sounded. She had been through too much on the account of Max Evans and she just wanted to be left alone. But Maria wasn't going for it, "Either you do it or I do it. Either way he will know." "Have a seat Maria. If you weren't my best friend, I would do you some serious harm right now." Liz muttered furious, standing up before giving Maria a dirty look. She strode over toward the aliens' table of choice.
Upon arriving at the table, Max glanced up to find Liz standing before him. She was so incredibly beautiful. Glowing actually but not 'he thought' with happiness. He missed seeing her, talking to her, but most of all he missed her smile. Knowing that he was the one who snatched the way the light in her eyes and the smile that he had come to love, made Max want to throw himself off a cliff, any cliff, just so he couldn't do the one thing that he had always succeeded in doing, hurting Liz. Max missed her. Plain and simple. He hadn't actually realized this until just a few moments ago. When he wasn't thinking about the baby, Tess, or his parents, Max was wondering if she was okay. If his stupidity hadn't actually cause yet another pregnancy.
He wasn't a total idiot; he couldn't just go up to Liz and ask if she was she pregnant with his child. Especially with the way things were between them now. They weren't even on speaking terms. She'd probably kick him in the balls if he so much as breathed in her direction. So, Max had decided to wait for her to come to him if anything was wrong. And here she was, "Max, I need to speak to you for a second in 'private'. Liz stated, while trying to ignore Isabel, Tess, and Michael's intense stares. "Alright..." Max, then, followed Liz across the squad to an empty table. Sitting in silence, Liz glanced at everything but Max before coming to meet his eyes. Max had no such difficulty. Nowadays, he craved for just the sight of her, seeing as though that was the only thing he could have.
It hit him suddenly that this was the time to bring up three weeks ago and the fact that he hadn't used a condom. But he was suddenly interrupted from his thoughts by Liz's voice. "Max..." Liz finished, nervously, unsure of how she was going to tell him, without getting hurt in the process. Suddenly alert to the fear he saw in her eyes, "What is it, Liz? Is something wrong?" He prodded after a few moments of silence. 'Well, obviously', Max thought, 'She wouldn't be speaking to you otherwise, idiot.' "No...Yes..." Right there, Liz was interrupted by the noise of the crowd surrounding Max's table. Leaping up, panicked, Max ran over to the crowd, shoving his way through, his heart lodged in his throat, as he saw Tess sprawled out unconsciously on the ground. Liz was left sitting there, somberly, as she watched Max carry an unconscious Tess to his jeep, Michael and Isabel not far behind, before driving away. Liz sat there, quietly; the pain overwhelming, as she vowed this would be the last time Max Evans ever had the chance of hurting her...again.

In the process of making dinner that night, Liz heard the doorbell ring. “I’ll get it…” She called, wiping her hands on her apron. Of course, she was the only one who could get it, seeing as though Ava had started her new job today at the Tumbleweed Inn. Opening the door, Liz found herself staring into the hazel-brown eyes of Max Evans. A tired smile adorned his good looks. It had been a month since she had seen him and she found her heart beating rapidly at the sight of him standing on her doorstep. Wearing a suit with his long hear tousled from running his fingers through it and a 5 o’clock shadow, Max looked rough around the edges but handsome all the same “Hey.” “Hi.” Liz breathed nervously. “Can I come in?” “Uh sure…” Liz laughed softly, stepping back to let him in. His presence overwhelmed her with intense feelings, so much so in fact that Liz felt as if she were falling apart all over again.
Looking around, Max sniffed the air in alarm as he smelled an aroma. “Liz, are you cooking something?” Staring at Max in bewilderment, Liz sniffed at the air as well and let out a cry of alarm as she realized something was burning. Running into the kitchen and over to the stove, she found that she had burn the sauce to her Grandma Claudia’s recipe, which she had been trying so hard not to do. Picking up the pot without thought, Liz yelped in pain just as Max cried out her name. She felt the intense heat burn her hand before she dropped the pot into the sink.
At the sound of Liz’s cry and the pot dropping, Alex and Amelia came running into the kitchen. “Mom? Are you okay?” Amelia asked in worry before giving her father an inquiry glance. Alex stood behind sister watching Max suspiciously. “Yeah, mom what happened. What did you do?” Alex asked turning his burning gaze towards his father…who was by the way just a little too close to his mom. Letting out a frustrated sigh, Liz rubbed at her hand to relieve some of the burning. “Alex that’s enough. Max didn’t do anything. So, I think you owe him an apology.” Looking down at his sneakers, Alex mumbled an apology…embarrassment tinting his cheeks.
“It’s okay, Liz.” Max said giving Alex a sad smile. “No it’s not okay Max.” She replied, giving Alex a stern look that spoke words of disapproval. She gave a sigh as she watched Alex fight back tears. “I’m fine guys. See?” She asked holding up her hand for the kids’ inspection so as for them not to worry any further. “It’s really red. Does it hurt?” Amelia asked inquiringly “It’s just a little sore but I’m fine.” She smiled reassuringly. “Are you sure?” Alex asked, meeting his mother’s gaze with concern. “Yes, now go play. I think we’re having pizza tonight.” “Okay…c’mon Alex.” Alex gave his sister a nod before giving his mother and father one last look.
“Let me see, Liz.” Max asked, gently from behind her. Turning around, Liz met Max’s eyes with tears. Emotions were overwhelming her as she stood alone in the kitchen with him. It was excruciating to have him so close to her but yet so far out of her reach. It had always been. She wanted him with every part of her soul but she knew it wasn’t meant to be. Too much had happened for them to ever go back to what they once were. Logic was her life saver but most avowed enemy. Trying to blank them back, she stared up at Max in pain. Gently taking her hand, Max looked down at it in examination. “I’ll heal it.” Shaking her head, Liz tried to pull her hand free from his grasp. “Let go, Max.” He looked down at her with a reassuring smile. “I can heal it, Liz.”
“No Max, you can’t- you can’t just heal it with the touch of your hand and every thing will be okay. It doesn’t work like that anymore!” There was a hidden meaning behind her words that they both comprehended. They both stood for what seemed like an eternity staring into each other’s eyes. “If you really loved me so much, Max, why did you choose her?” Liz whispered in agony. Max’s throat worked as he took in her question. Emotions and memories gathered inside of him that threatened to explode.
“I thought it was the right thing to do. I thought I had lost you and with everything that was going wrong… If I had known…if I had just realized… that you were pregnant!” “But you didn’t realize. You didn’t even ask, Max. Not that that would’ve made a difference. What would you have done Max if you had known I was pregnant? I would like to think that you wouldn’t have married Tess…but I just don’t know anymore. I want so badly to believe that you loved me then…that you still love me now but my mind is telling me something else all together.”
“I did love you then and I do love you now. I thought that you had left me…like you’ve done so many other times. I was losing my sister and I thought I had lost you. I felt responsible for Tess... I thought it was the right thing to do... Zan’s my son, Liz…. You’re wrong if you think that things wouldn’t have been different if I had known about Alex and Amelia. Because things would’ve been different. I’ve made a lot of mistakes Liz. I know that and I take full responsibility for all my actions but you were the reason for a lot of them.”
“I know-I know…I pushed you away but I never would’ve thought in my wildest dreams that you would give up on me. I believed you that day when you said you were coming for me. I was counting on it…but then you came, well the future you anyway, and told me that our loved caused the end of the world. I was so scared and confused…and hurt. You were asking me to do the impossible…at least I thought the impossible…until you disappeared. You never looked at me the same after that day and that says something Max. As many lies as I told you I can’t to this day comprehend how you could think that I would just blithely give my virginity away. God…I offered you my friendship and you turned it away to go to New York with Tess.” Taking a deep breath, Liz turned away from him with a clenched jaw.
Max looked at Liz’s back feeling a sense of shame and anguish so strong that bile rose up his throat. Tears filled his eyes as he continued to listen to Liz’s grief stricken voice. “You’ve told me you loved me so many times, Max, and yet each time I’ve made a mistake or decision regarding our relationship I would always find you in Tess’s arms. God…that just about killed me…” “Liz…” Max stepped forward to touch her…to do anything to make up for his actions. “We were young, Max, I realize that. I’ve made mistakes as well but I have this fear that despite the nine years that have passed things have not changed. I have this fear that as soon as I do something wrong…something that will disappoint you….that you’ll leave me…. for good. I can’t take that chance now especially with Alex and Amelia. I’d be a walking basket case.” She snorted, finally turning around to meet Max gaze. His eyes were filled with self-loathing.
“I never meant to hurt you….to cause you to fear what we had…what we could have! I was confused… angry… hurt…but I never meant for you to doubt my love for you because I have always loved you Liz Parker. I know I haven’t shown it. Before the shooting, I dreamed of you… of loving you …of us being together…of me doing everything in my power to make sure I never caused you pain. And you don’t how much it hurts me to know that I’ve caused you that much and more. I wanna make you happy, Liz. If I can just prove to you how much I love you….” Max sobbed, as he leaned his forehead against hers…their eyes meeting. “Please give me a chance, Liz? We can take it slow…We…” “Shhh!” Liz whispered putting a finger to his lips. “I need time, Max. Just give me time and we’ll see.” Nodding, Max brushed a kiss against her finger before stepping back.
“I have to go pick up, Zan. Maria sent over this and I bought this... a house warming gift.” Max stated handing her two gift wrapped presents with bows. “Oh, Max. You didn’t have to do this.” She whispered taking the gifts from his outstretched hand. Their hands touched and their eyes met with caresses. Taking a step back, Liz gave Max a sad smile. “I’ll just go say bye to Alex and Amelia… and then I’m gonna go.” “Okay.” Max nodded before giving her kiss on the forehead. “Goodnight Liz.” “Goodnight Max.” Later on that night as the kids were getting ready for bed, Liz sat in her bedroom with Max’s gift lying in her palms. It was the necklace…with the alien symbol encrusted into it. It reminded her of so long go as teenager standing in his room…leaning into one another just as they were doing hours before.
This gift warmed her heart like no other. Liz didn’t think Max had any idea what kind of significance this necklace really held for them…for her or maybe he did. Liz had never thought of Antar as her home until today…until this very moment. Looking down at the symbol, Liz felt a since of peace…of belonging that she hadn’t felt in a very long time. She thought about Max then…about his words… about his eyes. He loved her, she realized. If she ever had any other doubt all she had to do was look into his eyes but she realized that that didn’t make things any easier but harder.

Life had stopped when the Celestians landed on Earth… only to be replaced by death. The streets were barren. Earth was nothing but a desolate waste land. Abandon cars, bikes, trucks, and buses littered the streets of Houston, Texas. There was a stillness in the air that sent a shiver up Liz’s spine as they walked cautiously down the street guns ready for things to go bumping in the night. She was tired. They were all tired. But to stay alive they had to keep moving. They walked several blocks examining the destruction that was left behind before coming to a stop. Liz watched in anticipation as Alex stopped at the first car they had laid eyes on in years to check for keys. “Finally…Things are looking up! Thanks Billy, ya stupid bastard!” Alex laughed harshly as he revved the engine. She smiled in remembrance of the man they once knew. He was a few years older than them with nothing going for him in life. He was the first human they had come in contact with on there last mission…the first brave human. Smiling Liz remembered how optimistic he was about life. He had been the one to show Liz and Alex how to drive…saying that it was necessary if they were gonna get any where in life. Climbing in beside Alex, she thought about everything that she had lost because of this of this species and everything that she was gonna lose.
They drove for hours taking turns at the wheel. Their destination as always was Roswell, New Mexico. “We need to get a larger vehicle.” Alex muttered into the silence while adjusting his long legs. “What?” Liz sighed in confusion as she came out of her sleep deprived daze to look around the interior of the ’06 Volkswagen Beetle. “I said we need…” “I know what you said Alex!” Liz answered testily as her gaze remained on the road. “Then why did you ask?” “It wasn’t a question…it was more of a…” Liz replied waving one hand around in agitation. “Question.” Alex finished in sarcasm. “No smart ass…I was just wondering why you would pick this car if not even a day later you were going complain about it!” “I’m not complaining!” He replied in indignation while rolling down his window. “If your bitching and moaning is not complaining…then I’m not pregnant.” Liz muttered indicating her large tummy to make a point.
“Hey guys am I complaining?” Alex asked Courtney and Grant, two of their fellow crew members. They both looked at each other before nodding. “Pretty much!” Grant replied with a small smile of amusement. “Listen as much as I liked to agree with you, Liz, we really need to get a larger vehicle…maybe two if necessary.” Courtney added snottily. Liz and Courtney had never been friends. She had had it out for Liz since the day Liz stepped foot into King Caerwyn’s palace for the maid’s position. Courtney was one of those Antarians that thought they were better than everyone else…especially lowly humans. It just ate at her that not only was she under someone’s command but that that someone else was a human… and mousey Liz Kierdan no doubt, a retired maid and the heir Prince’s whore.
Liz knew what Courtney thought of her and it didn’t really keep her awake at night. She had learned long ago to endure Antarians like Courtney because she had no choice. She was stuck in two worlds…Earth and Antar. She hadn’t decided upon which she would call home yet. “We’ll stop in El Paso to find two larger vehicles,” Liz muttered rolling her eyes towards Alex who just shook his head in wonder. Hours later, they were back on main the road. Liz sat behind the wheel of a truck that had once delivered food products to neighborhood grocery stores while Alex drove a freightliner. A huge badass truck as he liked to call it. They hadn’t come upon any wounded or homeless humans yet but they would.
Liz drove deep in her thoughts as Grant sat beside her snoring. They were almost there. An hour outside of Roswell, she stopped along side of the road…her bladder threatening to explode. “Dammit Liz…this is the fourth time in an hour!” Alex roared in frustration as he pulled in a long side of her. “Oh shut it, Alex!” Liz growled throwing the truck into park. Climbing out, she wobbled into the woods with her gun ready. Minutes later, she was behind the wheel again driving along 285 North. The darkness consumed everything in its wake. The sun was setting… tired of being in the shadow of something as insignificant as a ship. Earth hadn’t seen the light of day in twenty some odd years. It was a wonder that there were any survivors at all.
An hour later, Liz was driving along Main street when she saw something flying at Grant’s window in breaking speed. Swerving to the right in a panic, she pulled out her stainless steel Beretta just as the creature slammed through the window breaking the glass. Cocking her pistol just as the creature reached for Grants’ throat, Liz pulled the trigger without thought or emotion. Pulling the trigger once, she watched as his brains splattered all over Grant’s leather burning slowly through the material. “Shit!” Liz swore as she watched the Celestian’s blood eat through material going for the skin. “Take your clothes off!” “What?” “Dammit take your clothes off unless you want it to burn through your skin!” She said angrily, pulling the truck over before putting it into park. Hurriedly, he obeyed until he was down to just his boxers.
“Liz?” Alex shouted in terror as he came upon the parked delivery truck. Slamming the door open, he sighed as he saw Liz staring straight ahead in anger. “You okay?” “Yeah…just fine and fucking dandy!” She muttered while rubbing her protruding tummy in anxiety and fear. “That was close, Alex, too close!” She whispered. “Who did I think I was excepting this mission?” “You did fine, Liz!” “Yeah right. My reflexes were too slow…a second slower and Grant would’ve been dead!” Looking over Liz towards Grant, Alex grinned in amusement. “What happened to your clothes?” “Liz blew the things brains out and it splattered over me!” Grant shivered with a small smile. Shaking his head, Alex turned to take in their surroundings when his eyes landed on a diner’s sign which read Crash Down Café. “Liz look…do you recognize this place?”
Liz stepped down from the truck…closing the door before looking up to what Alex was talking about. She knew this place…knew it with every fiber of her being. “Yes…C’mon let’s go take a look.” Liz whispered drawn to the abandoned diner. “Liz…Get back here!” “Alex are you coming or what?” Taking a deep breath, Alex frowned before following Liz to the entrance of the diner with Courtney and Grant not too far behind. With Alex and Grant’s help, they pried the cardboard off the doorway. Stepping inside, she looked around into the darkness… gun ready. While diamonds were some girl’s best friends, Liz’s best friends were her pistols and shot gun.
Using their powers, both Alex and Liz held their hands over the light switches. Suddenly the café was filled with light. There was dust and dirt every where. The air was stale with the weird smell of what was once a place of comfort and fun. Trailing her fingers along the counter, she could imagine the customers sitting at the counter drinking coffee while reading their newspapers. Sighing she wobbled over to stand beside Alex who was looking at the framed photos and news paper clippings on the wall. “Look!” He whispered, showing Liz a framed newspaper clipping from 1947. “There was a crash in 1947. There were a lot of crashes according to Roswell’s residences but why would they cover this one up? Someone came down before they were ever here…who? And why didn’t we ever know about this?” She asked in confusion. “This goes with us!” Alex stated, scanning quickly over the faded words.

He’s alive…He’s alive… He has to be. Liz thought as she sat in Ava’s car, hugging both Alex and Amelia. Michael and Isabel stood on the edge of the cliff calling Max’s name. But nothing came...but an eerie silence. Sheriff Valenti stood to the side with Ava and Kyle talking quietly. Isabel's panic grew as she looked down into the calm river. “He’s not answering Michael. Oh god what if he’s hurt or …” “Don’t say it, Isabel. He’s somewhere out there…we just need to find him.” Michael finished hugging Isabel’s shoulder’s as they stared down into the river below. “What are we going to do if he’s not?” Isabel whispered, tears once again filling her eyes.
At that moment, the Sheriff chose to speak up. “Listen we need to call in help. Kyle, I need you to go back into town and set up a task force. We need boats…lots of them and swimming gear.” “Gotcha...” Kyle answered running back to his car. Ava watched him leave before walking back to her car where Liz and the kids sat. Liz didn’t even notice as Ava sat in the driver’s seat. All her thoughts were on Max. She couldn’t lose him…not like she lost Alex and her dad. The optimistic side of her knew Max would never leave her this way. He was probably out there somewhere…alive. He had to be she thought breathing in shallow breaths. Everything was going to be okay. We’ll find him she thought.
Once they found him…Liz vowed to herself that she’d never let him go. Admittedly, they had problems but problems could be solved. Liz wouldn’t be contemplating these thoughts if she didn’t still love him…if she didn’t feel at this very moment that something would die inside of her if they didn’t find him…or if it was already too late and he was dead. She knew that he was alive…felt it actually but what if she was wrong. She had been wrong before. What if he was dead? But something inside her rebelled at this thought. He was alive… he had to be.
